Reviews of Curious Tavern

Curious Tavern surely got my curiosity to come in. Bar have nice theme going on (old fashion), dark lit so great for vampires, small size but not micro. Audience towards punk rock, nice collection of music. Selection wise of drinks decent amount to pick from.
Have a pool table inside with plenty of space around to play.
k. m.
Great selection of booze, really nice cosy atmosphere. Super interesting place for a beer!
A. D.
Friendly staff, and a brilliant vibe! Amazing live music on the night we went in, can’t wait to return!
G.
Busy Nottingham bar, good decor and a fun place to drink. Although sticky tables and rude staff. One particular young lady grunted that they had no Chardonnay so I asked for a taste of the Pinot that had and was rudely told we don’t do tastings.
Might give it another go but with the competition around Nottingham why should I.

Nipped in for a drink with a friend on a Monday. Cocktails were £7.50 each which is pretty standard for non-happy hour in Nottingham. The vibe is great, and the music was fab- think Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton. Great service too, thanks!
W. P.
Always a good selection of drinks, but sometimes not always the best service
L. A.
Only a brief visit, but I shall return!
My most amazing friend & I stopped in for a quick drink & discovered a little side-room with a comfy sofa at the far end. So we happily retired there & began our problem solving & day drinking. Which was probably beneficial to the other customers, as they didn't have to wonder what they were witnessing.
Friendly service, nice wine, and curious decor to say the least. Would love to visit again.
P. S.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff about their range of beers. Great atmosphere and fun opening night on a Wednesday.
D. J.
Nice cosy place for a late drink 🍺😉
R. F.
Fantastic, welcoming staff and some great beer choices.
S. K.
We went on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago. The doorman is really friendly and the staff prompt as they deliver your drinks to you. The manager was really friendly and when the cider wasn't in ehat he ordered hr gave him a free drink if his choice because he had waited a bit for the barrel change. We had a great time and they have a band on but we left before that. It's a small quaint establishment with a small front outdoor seating area.
L. B.
Food was ok, staff was ok. Kitchen was out of order so only food available was the pizza oven which was ok. Wouldn't rate enough to go out of my way to go back.
Visited for afternoon tea and the selection was ok. The plates and decor was quirky and I quite liked the mismatched feel.
J. G.
Great place to go for a final couple of drinks, attached to the hotel we were staying in.
M.
Love this place, mainly because of the staff, all bar staff great but special mention to the guys on the door. Quite often they can be a negative but not here, all really friendly and welcoming, a real credit to the place. Will be back soon for sure!
J. C.
Nice pub. Slightly overpriced. Good band on when I was last in.
P. P.
Nice place but bar is limited
J. K.
The hand stretched pizza is fresh and mouth - wateringly delicious. Try the "Damien." Great intimate atmosphere and unique character. Friendly, attentive staff.
S. B.
Just brilliant, great atmosphere and cracking beer
0. H.
Quite nice, good food, enjoyed the music, very nice ambiance
B.
Fantastic place to drink in Nottingham chilled out ambiance. Alex the bartender friendly and welcoming with good ale. Loved rubbing your ice...Alex.
J. J.
Pleasant place to spend a little time whether shopping, staying over. Conveniently situated in the heart of hockey. Staff are helpful and pleasant.
D. P.
Such a good vibe. If you are looking for a place to spend the whole day and night...come here. Waitrons are well mannered and the music is great. Coming from Cape Town SA, this place is a home away from home.
A. M.
Very nice atmosphere. My friends who picked the beef roast were very happy with it. I went for the the vegetarian option and I can’t say the same. The dish was much smaller and the pie wasn’t the main bit one would wish for - the filling was just fine and the pastry very hard and difficult to cut.
Z. V.
Amazing amazing amazing!! Very impressive cocktails and an amazing array of drinks either non alcoholic or alcoholic. The atmosphere is impressive with beautiful and modern decor. Really impressed overall and would certainly recommend. Great for parties and great for small groups
J. C.
Absolutely lovely, they're very accommodating and very helpful with everything. Probably my now favorite place in Notts really made everything easy. The service is great and the atmosphere is very calming
S. H.
This fabulous looking bar should be getting 5 stars for decor, but going by service I would only give it a 1 so decided to meet in the middle with 3 stars. This was our second visit to this bar, love the decor and ambiance but the staff are are not trained to greet customers and make them feel welcome, in fact I almost walked out. We were hungry and looked at the menu but it was very limited so we left. Ending on a plus, the background music was very good.
S. P.
Great place for a drink. Nice atmosphere
O. M.
Love this bar, it's a dark cosy tavern in the lace market with some cool gothic styling. They have all the usual stuff behind the bar and some good guest beers too.
Friendly staff here and a great atmosphere, good value drinks and a great place to hang out.
C. C.
A great location in the city centre if you want to find good drinks, a unique atmosphere, but also want to be able to have a conversation. Prices are similar to the rest of the city, the food is good, but the decor is really unique and lends the Curious Tavern its unique and very comfortable ambience.

Exceptional
Went in for something to eat early Sunday evening and was met by the manageress who was very pleasant and told to choose any seat we required we were then greeted by a pleasant waiter who asked us if we wanted to drink. I ordered that we then ordered two starters along with two main meals both were served promptly and were beautifully cooked and waiter took time to talk to us friendly and make us feel as if we were in our own house on the whole. I would recommend this cosy welcoming venue to anybody and will be visiting again very soon.

Went for sparkling afternoon tea. Absolutely lovely. Really pleasant helpful staff and a fantastic tea with a selection of well filled sandwiches, pork pies, scones with clotted cream and jam and cakes to die for!!!! Thoroughly recommend.

Dirty Chicken served on Thursday nights. Amazing food

This is our favourite bar in Nottingham and, up until we moved away, a weekly visit for my husband and I. It has a great atmosphere (a little dark, but still...) and gets a nice range of people in there; never rowdy, but always has a 'buzz'.
We stayed in the hotel last night and spent the evening in the bar for a few drinks and what was undoubtedly the best Mac and Cheese ever. I agree with Craig though, they really haven't got it right with customer service. It is always a long wait at the bar and last night's staff gave the impression that you definitely weren't a priority for them. They aren't openly rude or anything like that, just seem quite indifferent to customers and do a lot of chatting between themselves. Otherwise this definitely would be 5 stars. We will still go in there every time we are back in Nottingham. It's 'our place'. : 0 )
B. S.
A really good bar and part of a hotel. Good atmosphere and not too noisy. This place is central to the night life in Hockley which also makes a great place to stay!
Well worth a visit even for a couple of early drinks!
k. b.
Do like it in here. Quirky decor and pleasant staff.
j. b.
I would go back there very happily ! One cocktail they did not serve is margarita
M. G.
It's nice and quirky. With a feature of the caves underneath that you can stand on and look down. But I was quite disappointed that on a sunday afternoon they had a very very poor selection of soft drinks. Poor explanation and reasoning behind it too.
L. P.
The food in this chain (I think it's a chain of at least a couple of venues) is lovely. They tweeked the menu for me too! Yummy! There are some funky decorative quirky features which we all liked. The bar became very busy while I was waiting but the bar staff were not aware enough of who was there when so I was a bit irritated, as much with unscrupulous punters as with the staff.
n.
20 minute wait, got order wrong for 4 drinks. Twice! 4 people working behind a bar who are all following step by step guides on how to make cocktails. Plus side, lovely bar atmosphere and they were polite and really friendly. Just the wait spoiled it.
D. A.
The food here was OK, but what the website doesn't tell you is that there's no table service so you have to order food and drinks at the bar yourself.
The service was also basic, food was dropped off without asking if we needed anything further especially as we had parts of our order missing.
The venue inside is pretty cool though, dark furnishings and little sneak peeks at the caves underneath make it quite a quirky venue
E. N.
Good choice of cocktails and the bar is nice and cosey. Great for drinks with friends as music not so loud you can't hear each other. Queue at the bar was the only let down but I suppose expected when most people ordering cocktails.
M. W.
It's a complete removal from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
The pub in superbly designed to give the feel of inns and taverns of old.
Dimly lit with sumptuous armchairs and faux candle light.
Pints are served in glass tankards and drinks are well priced considering it's location.
S. M.
Amazing cocktails and a good variety of food. Very atmospheric, and the glass floor showing the caves underground are fab too! Highly recommend the whisky dram cocktail!
M. C.
Worth a visit as it has a great interior. They do cocktails here. The real ale was terrible though, very sharp and cloudy. Nice place, drinks need to be better quality for the prices charged.
M. T.
This bar/restaurant is good if you'd like to have a chilled, civilised evening with good friends. We had burgers and pizza here. Food was good and unpretentious. The drinks menu is good with good quality wines. Will definitely be returning.
D.
Like this place good atmosphere and choice of drinks. Will be back.
M. B.
It's a great place for couple of pints and chat with your friends and it has a 'magical' glass floor.
L. C.
Visited the Curious Tavern on a late afternoon in July/2018. Found them through Groupon deals, which was £12 for 2 12” pizza and 2 drinks.
Their pizza is stonebaked style, which was divine. Their sides: spiced fries and side salad are also irresistible and tasty.
Their interior is mysterious and jazzy, it must be exciting to visit during nighttime for cocktails. The background music is also quite subtle, so glad I didn’t have to shout across the table to talk, and be disturbed by cheesy loud music.
It’s definitely a gem in the Lace Market, will visit again!
M. E.
Really nice place, but not the atmosphere it used to have due to the pandemic. Hopefully things will be back to normal for them soon.
Y. R.
Quite a nice bar, and it would be better if it didn't have to be compared to the other Curious venues in town, which have a much larger cocktail menu. It's got a great speakeasy feel to it, and the drinks it does have are nice, but it feels lacking when sandwiched between the Curious manor and townhouse.
g. m.
Great food, nice decor, friendly staff. Honestly though, they really need to work on their music selection. Both times it wasn't in keeping with the mood and almost makes me not want to come back.
S. T.
One of my favourite bars in Hockley. Lovely atmosphere and very cosy. Good choice of beers, especially IPA. Just be prepared to wait a while at the bar as cocktails are quite popular here.
L. R.
Lovely place, came in Saturday for a drink, nice bar staff, very polite...
N. G.
Mixed Menu, Valentine's meal for wife and I, good value and excellent service. Would recommend to locals and visitors alike. Make sue you look down into one of Nottingham's famous cave's via the glass floor in the bar area.
W.
Quirky little bar with a nice vibe... Worth a visit if you're in the area...
S. H. -. H.
Been meaning to visit for a while now and finally got the opportunity today with my family. I loved it!the bar staff was friendly and the decor is amazing, stylish, sophicated and cosy. Loved the fairy lights around and the candles on the tables. I shall be back.
D. K.
Nice, dark, relaxing atmosphere. Chilled out music, this place has an almost grown up 'gothic' atmosphere with a hipster favouring. If you want somewhere that's niche and has an air of sophistication, this is it.
L. B.
Service was a little slow on a Friday night.
Standard beer range as most bars in the area. Arround the same prices too.
Someone kept leaving the door open tho... Bit of an annoyance in October when it's cold out.
F.
Of all the curious bars this one is my favourite. Cosy with snug little corners and of course the fantastically inventive cocktail menu. Food is lush and the service prompt. Staff and atmosphere and spot on
A. H. (.
Lovely decor, friendly staff but a bit pricey and all 5 of their cask ales were settling which was a bit disappointing!
R. F.
Interesting old pub, a bit out of the way. Decent beers but quite pricey
G. F.
Lovely staff (especially Alice), cozy atmosphere and you'll feel as if you've entered Lord of the rings - kinda. Definitely one of my favourite places in town ^^
C. C.
A great location in the city centre if you want to find good drinks, a unique atmosphere, but also want to be able to have a conversation. Prices are similar to the rest of the city, the food is good, but the decor is really unique and lends the Curious Tavern its unique and very comfortable ambience.
S. C.
The deco is amazing, every detail is very well thought, a piece of art.

Nice beer
D. W.
It's a cosy place that seeves real ale.... Nice place to spend an hour or two.... I would prefer a better selection of ale, considering the building and ambience I think a larger selection would improve trade no end.
s. y.
This is how a pub should be ,very cosy and homely
G. M.
Unusual pub with good service
S. G.

L. I.

S. C.
Went in during a quiet period on a Thursday afternoon for a quick bite to eat, staff were friendly, food was good and the place itself is very quirky, would definitely visit again
J. G.
Amazing live music,great people
s.
Some of the options of food are a tad bit weird to people with a picky sense of taste, for instance kids. There is a tiny section of the floor that will give a shock to some!
G. L.
Great service and friendly staff. Love the atmosphere in this place too
E. B.
Good selection of drinks. Great ambiance. Being in the part of town that it is in, it can get a little expensive for a round.
B. D.
Good beer but the lighting at the back is almost non existent. Not sure how you would eat ...luckily we just had a drink.
L. B.
Nice quiet venue for drinks and chat. Bar staff were friendly and helpful.

G. M.

Not a great selection of beers, but an interesting place nonetheless. Somewhere to meet up at the start of a night out rather than a destination

(Translated) The setting is dark but retains the old English pub feel. The service is impeccable and the waitresses are very kind! Especially with children .. which is no small thing in the UK ..
