Just had a lovely meal here. Really fantastic food, absolutely top quality. My wife is dairy intolerant, and staff could not have done more to cater for her. Including offering off-menu foods and altering menu choices to help. Service was second to none. We will definitely be back soon.

Never fails to deliver the best food ever, we have been going here for many years now and never had an issue, sometimes busy and hard to get a table but well worth a wait.

I booked Sunday Lunch at 1pm for 2 people today. On arriving we were shown into the back room of the pub which was very dark and so tight for space my friend struggled to pull her chair from under the table to sit down. I asked if we could be moved into the main restaurant area but was told they were fully booked. The waitress did say she would check for me but didn't return and nothing more was mentioned. We ordered drinks but one was incorrect when it arrived and had to be sent back. The Sunday Lunch arrived and was very nice. Home cooking at It's best! However we were so rushed and everything was served so quickly it was not relaxing at all. There was also a lot of background noise which was very loud. On finishing our meal our table was cleared as it was booked out again. Although the food was good, the service was extremely rushed and the atmosphere was far from relaxing. If it had been pointed out on booking that we were going to be sat in a back room and the table booked out again in less than 2 hours I would not have booked and for this reason I wouldn't recommend this place or return.

Been coming on and off for 20 Years, Every time to the food and drinks have been great! Last visited on Saturday and tried the new street food menu for outside eating I had the fried chicken forgotten what it was called but haven’t forgotten how amazing it tasted! Quite a nice & quaint pub. Positives: - Food really nice - Good portion size - Dogs allowed Areas for improvement: - WIFI. Could not connect once to their WIFI, I'm assuming their router isn't capable of connecting very many devices at one time. - Waiting staff product knowledge. The first lady we spoke to couldn't tell us what draught cider they had and started reeling off beer names. Also when asked what came with the Sunday Roast I was advised "lots of stuff". Although the second lady, when shifts changed was very knowledgeable indeed. - Paying for meal up front. This is something that's very alien and strange to me. Used to paying at the end of a meal. - Only got asked how our meal was once we had finished eating. All in all a good experience however some improvements could be made as detailed above.

We went there to meet up with family and celebrate my wife's birthday. There were quite a few of us but we were accommodated in one room. We all ordered food which came out at the same time and was beautifully cooked and large portions. My wife and I live in Cornwall but all our family are in Nottingham. So this will be our choice of venue whenever we come up. Thanks to the whole team who made us feel very welcome and a huge thank you to the chef's for the delicious food.

The food was brilliant, some of the best. The service was not on the same level at all. Obvious miscommunication issues which hurt service. Multiple waitress' repeatedly forgetting requests, asked for more drinks 2-3 times and the bill 2 times before following up. All could have been fixed by segregating the tables better for staff.

What a great place to go to for New Year's Eve celebrations! The staff especially the land lady were very tentative and made us feel very welcome. At a time when so many celebrations have been blighted with covid we felt very safe in the pub environment. Having been to the Fox & Hounds before I knew what to expect. On arrival as a party of 10 we were was faced with a new menu, a different style to old, full and varied bragging to be traditional home cooked food. We ordered and before we knew it the food was coming out, well presented, outstanding quality and taste with a portion size fit for a King. Friendly accommodating staff in a nice setting.

We went to the Fox and Hounds in Papplewick for the 1st time for my Dad's 70th celebration and to say we were impressed is an understatement. We had booked the room for 2pm but unfortunately my parents were stuck on the M1 for over 2 hours due to a coach fire. Di and the rest of the staff were extremely accommodating and made us feel at ease even though they were fully booked with other guests from 6.15pm. The birthday boy arrived at 4.45pm and food was ordered and brought out in timely fashion. ALL of the starters were fantastically presented and incredibly tasty and the portion sizes were incredible. Then followed 10 mains again executed to perfection with seamless and extremely friendly service. To say that there was 10 truly happy and full people is the most accurate description. Di was hands on with service and so pleasant it made the whole day extra special. We then had cake in the front of the pub surrounded by sunshine and beautiful scenery. Can not thank Di and all of her staff enough for all the attention to making my Dads day so special. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend to anyone.

Outstanding lunch! I can't compliment the quality of the food and the service. By far, the best Salmon dish I've ever eaten! We also only needed to order one kids meal for two as the portion size was so large! And they warned us. We will be booking again soon for a dinner!

A nice place to eat! We were staying in an AirBnB in Blidworth, and this pub was just down the hill for us, so we decided to try it for Sunday Lunch. There seemed to be seperate menus for wether you wanted the traditional sunday or 'street food'. Whatsmore, some staff said you couldn't order the street food outside (we had a dog with us) while others said we could. Very confusing! Anyway, the food arrived at different times (10 minutes between the sunday & street). It seemed very popular with locals mind, but to us it was an average village pub. Nonetheless, should you want to burn off some of lunch, Blidworth Woods are oppisite, and are lovely for a walk with the dog. Best pub if staying in Blidworth though!

Apparently the food used to be amazing here, but it's not something I'd write home about. I had the paté to start. It was obviously homemade (very tasty), but it arrived absolutely freezing cold and with bread. Who eats paté with bread!? Surely it should be toasted at least? Then I had the lamb shank and it was alright... mash was disappointing and so was the gravy. The rest of the party had nachos to share... massive portion but also disappointing. Then burgers, which were also quite disappointing. I think maybe if people hadn't hyped it up so much I wouldn't have found it as disatisfying though. Edit: To clarify, "disappointing" was maybe a bit too strong... there was nothing wrong with any of the food, except the bread with the pate, which I returned and asked to be toasted. I just found the place to be very average - the reason I said disappointing was because it didn't live up to my expectations, but that is my personal opinion.

Nice place to eat, they will always see you good . The landlady, Di, is nice and she will always do her best to squeeze you in, but it’s always really busy so best to book. The food is really nice and it’s got a decent selection of actually decent beers . It’s on the pricier side of pubs but to be fair, it’s on the nicer side of pubs. We often use it after a bike ride , park up, go for a ride and then got for some farmers chips and a Peroni.

My husband and family have been four times to this excellent pub - restaurant in the last three weeks. This says a lot for the whole ambiance of the place. Food Excellent- Staff welcoming... We visited whilst staying nearby. This was our second visit after a great Sunday lunch a few days before. What a disappointment, the great food was let down by disorganised service, long waits, and having to constantly remind the staff that we were waiting.

Went during eat out to help out, staff were friendly and accommodating, informing us of tables only available outside at the time we turned up (not pre booked) and a 45 minute wait for food. The only slight disappointment was it took half hour after that for someone to take our food order but I suppose this is one of the struggles nowadays, that said the food was fantastic, had the best homemade lasagne I have ever eaten in 40 odd years. Called in based on recommendation from a friend, without booking. The staff were extremely courteous and friendly, and accommodated us even though they were quite busy. We tried a selection of foods from both the menu and the specials boards, all of which were excellent. The food was not only presented very well, but tasted as good as it looked. Portion sizes were on the large side, so if you like a "good fill" you won't be disappointed. If however you tend towards smaller portions, then I doubt you'll manage three courses, so choose either starter or dessert before you order...or wear stretchy trousers and get ready for a good sleep straight afterwards...!!! Will definitely go back. Wonderful experience at a very reasonable price.

The food is simply out of this world, great presentation and amazing taste - plenty of it too. A great range of drinks to choose from and all at prices so competitive, you'll be hard to find anywhere else to match the quality and service. Located off the beaten track this place is a little gem you have to try. Plenty of parking for coaches too if you fancy a get together! Cant reccomend this place highly enough.

What a fabulous place. Drove past so many times always saying we would go there. Booked a meal for tonight. The staff were all polite and friendly. We had a starter and a main. The portion sizes are very large. I was full with just the starter. The food was fabulous. Price reasonable. Will definitely return but will skip the starter as lovely as they were.

This pub is definitely worth visiting for the beer and the food. We had previously booked (advisable)a table for Sunday lunch, three adults and a toddler. Table all laid out waiting for us including toddler friendly cutlery and a clean highchair. We ordered Sunday roasts, they also did a small bowl of mash, veg and Yorkshire pudding and gravy which was the ideal size for our little person. The food is tasty and homemade and a good portion size all at reasonable prices. Good selection of beers on tap. To top it off the staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble even when the place was absolutely packed.

I think this is the fifth time we have visited and the food was, yet again, lovely. Despite us dropping in at dinner time on a Sunday without booking, a table for four was found quickly and our wait for food was relatively short, while long enough to feel confident it wasn't something they bunged into an industrial sized microwave. :) Prices are a little higher than you might find in a chain pub, but this is reflected in the (very) generous portion sizes and the great quality. We're looking forward to going back when the weather improves so that we can enjoy a drink in the garden area.

Dropped in on spec Bank holiday Monday..It was already busy to say it was quite early and most tables full..We managed to get a table for 4. The decor is lovely and very clean The waitresses and bar staff were all very friendly. I ordered the steak and ale pie with triple cooked chips and fresh vegetables..I have a big appetite but couldnt manage this, the portions are massive. It was steaming red hot with a lovely jug of gravy and tasted fab..Would totally recommend this place for food. We will definately be back..

Food of excellent quality and has been on numerous repeat visits. However, the pub is not especially child friendly. Prams/pushchair is are not allowed and our three month old infant had to be held (not ideal when trying to eat) or remain in his car seat on the floor or on a chair that was not wide enough to sit the seat safely. Also there were no baby changing facilities and nappies had to be changed on the ladies floor.

Well... for once all the positive reviews were absolutely spot on. I was up visiting Sherwood Forest with my young son and needed somewhere to eat on a Saturday night. We managed to get a booking at short notice which I expect is only because it was the first dreary weekend in January when nobody goes out. We arrived to find a vibrant pub with a very friendly atmosphere. The food -- as judged by pub standards, not cordon bleu -- was genuinely excellent. Heads and shoulders above standard pub grub and the portions were very large. Prices were very reasonable even by regular pub standards. I thought the £5.95 for the ice cream was a rip off... then 6 huge scoops came out, covered in all sorts of toppings. My son thought this was the greatest thing that had ever happened to him! Good gluten free choice too (my son is a celiac... and would also have type 2 diabetes if we were locals and he got to order the ice cream regularly). Service was wonderful and the landlady was brilliant. Well done all.

We have been here pretty regularly over the last few years and, with the notable exception of a serious dip in quality during the summer where it was more 1 star, I am more pleased to report a return to form on our most recent visit. The food is cooked to order, so there is a reassuring wait which is made less arduous by the welcoming atmosphere and good selection of drinks. I would suggest you try for a table in the original part of the building, rather than the newer extension, which we feel lacks the same charm and atmosphere.

If you can't handle a large group then take orders in advance or turn down the booking. The lady serving us did not apologise, instead offering weak excuses for the late food.
