W. A.Love it here, longstanding favourite family place to go for a walk by the river, watch the boats go through the lock & have a picnic. The cafe that used to be there was nice enough, had refreshments there in the past but its gone a bit upmarket now, A Bistro bar & clearly the high prices reflect that so we didn't go in & obviously can't comment apart from it looked nice & was very busy. Fortunately the ice cream van is still there & a row of pubs & restaurants near the main car park to choose from.
R. P.Lots of parking, great Italian restaurant under new management with livestock and ramblers roaming the banks of the turbulent Trent. Marvellous on Mothers Day in Spring.
T. H.Great place to visit. Car park opposite Tom Brown's Brasserie. Nice walk down to the lock and beyond.
M. C.Really nice place to go for a walk. Good footpath but the river, plus benches and some interesting signage explaining the history. Fun to watch the barges go through the lock. Bonus of an ice cream van when we went. There are 2 large car parks and a couple of pubs for food and drink all in short walking distance.

J. B.Nice walk, you can paddle a little way down, nice cafe and restaurant by the lock and an ice cream van. Unicorn pub at the first car park has a play area on the back. Tom browns is an excellent place to eat but pre-booking is a must especially at a weekend. Lovely easy walk with dogs or children, you can also fish down here.

You can walk or drive near the locks.

C. T.Lovely afternoon stroll with the dog. Drive to the end of the road along the river for the parking. Well behaved dogs are acceptable off lead . Several places for drinks and eats.

G. W. p.Best place for fishing. Got to be a real fisherman to fish in these conditions. Can’t get anymore social distance and people so friendly down there.
O. M.Great area to go for a walk and then there's the Biondi bar to go enjoy, they have a small menu but the lasagna is fantastic, looking forward to trying a few more dishes.
Very handy if you have dogs as there is a decent courtyard to go to around the back and they are very dog friendly.
Highly recommended.

Easy walk along the concrete path to the lock side .50 mtrs.
If you are lucky you will see a boat come through on its way up or down stream.
Just through the clapper gate there a pleasant walk along side the River Trent right next to the river as it speeds down stream towards Newark.
If you walk a little then turn round you will see the river tumbling over the wier makes a good photo .
You can take the dog 🐕.
Bins are provided so a nice clean site.
Can be muddy when its rained heavy so hi heels don't work 😫.
Its a farmers fields so cattle maybe about .
Please don't drop litter because they can be silly and eat it.
Which can be life threatening.
Please follow the Country code.
Shut closed gates etc.
You pass 2 Two good pubs on the lane on the way to the lock so food is available .
Car park across the road from the pubs .
Great view of Gunthorpe Bridge which you can walk to down the path at end of carpark.

S. R.Great place to go, particularly when it's sunny, great to have a picnic, a stroll by the river or have a bite to eat
M. T.We love this place and will often take the dog walking there. It's always quiet and tranquil even when it's busy. Parking is limited so it's always best to get there early. There is a bistro/cafe where you can pop in for a coffee or meal after your walk. The walk is great up or down the river.

M. L.Le Vague restaurant is lovely, on this occassion we just sat outside where we could watch the boats passing by. The menu is great, we had a chicken sandwich and a fillet steak sandwich, both come with chips and salad so with drinks it came to £30 therefore wouldn't make a habit of it but a nice treat.
s. i.Had a great walk and foot dip in the water. Beautiful scenery. Plenty of places to sit and rest. Children can ride their bikes. You can walk quite far along the canal banks. There are plenty of places to eat and drink. There is enough parking in the pubs, car park opposite pubs and more further up the canal, near the lock.
There are boat trips if you wish to go on one.
S. W.We frequently walk through this area on our local walks. It always attracts people with children and I guess it will be a marvel to young eyes for the first time. Interesting to me also, especially when boats are passing through. Worth a visit for anyone.
P. D.Lovely spot for a walk with great places to be eat/drink nearby. You can make the walk as long as you like, but a 3 to 4 mile out and back route along the river bank is easily done. There may be cows in some of the fields, so remember to close the gates.
The River Trent can vary from fast flowing torrent over the weir by the lock, to being a much calmer and gentle flow. You might want to keep your dog on its lead until you know what the river is like the day you're there. Dog bins are provided at the lock, but not in the fields to the east of it, so make sure you're prepared!

A. T.Lovely place to walk. It can get busy during hot summer days, but autumn walks work very well also. Parking is free but limited.
M. R.Absolutely beautiful. The fields of buttercups glowing with the beautiful blue sky backdrop and the birdsong on our riverside walk was so lovely.
Topped off with coffee and cake on our return.

C. M.Was OK but the food too buy out was absolutely extortionate. £29 for 2 cheese burger with chips in Styrofoam containers and 2 cokes in plastic pint cups half filled. I'll definitely walk there again but I'll remember to stock up with my own lunch next time. I think if people are to carry on in business during difficult times then they need to readjust their prices because I'll never go back there again.

P. H.Lovely place for a walk along the Trent. There are several good restaurants and pubs nearby to make a day of it if you want and a car park close too if you want to park up.
L. M.It is a nice place for a stroll however it is only there and back if you don't want to go far.
Beyond the paved towpath the grass is not too bad for a large wheeled pushchair.
I.Clean and beautiful! Great for dog walking and a good place to just relax and clear your head! Plenty of bars and cafés nearby if you want a cool drink after your walk. Just be cautious if there are cows!

Do not go to the Bondi pub, was one of the worst coffees I've ever had, For two vile coffees (out of a machine) and a semi stale cake for nearly £10 (My mum threw her coffee away after a few sips)

S. M.Lovely walk down by the river Trent. Plenty of wild life, flora and forna. For once very little litter along the walk. Living on the river really does make you realise how Nottinghamshire has some of the most beautiful countryside.

S. L.If you're looking for a peaceful spot to watch the world go by, or a spot for a drink by the water then this is beautiful. Situated at the Lock itself, you can find plenty of space to fish and BBQ. A recommended place to forget and get lost in your own mind.
b. b.A working lock (for boats), with a footpath that takes you on a lovely dogwalk. The area is very busy, even on a warm winter day, but is very child and dog friendly. There is a posh cafe on the lock and a pub/hotel very close by.

18.35pm , it was still stunning on a rainy cold evening looking out of his 20 foot wide veranda and it was a absolutely fantastic view of the Waterfront down at

E. S.Nice walk and free parking which is always good! You can walk as far as you like and there is a cafe around an hour walk which has a bathroom too!
