Great choice of beers, including Chouffe and Plum Porter on our visit. Lovely food, served by cracking staff. The cosy caves serve as the dining area, at a lovely constant temperature. Not too hot and not too cold.
J. D.
Excellent—best roast and dinner we’ve had in Nottingham. Tried the lamb, pork, and beef (pictured) roasts and couldn’t decide which we liked best. Staff were delightful and the place was gorgeous.
D. S.
Ambience is amazing when sitting and eating inside the caves and the staff are good.
It does smell a bit musty because of the damp though.
The food is very overpriced for pub grub. For something simple like a burger, my bun was burnt to a crisp.
L. E.
Very good pub food with plenty of choice for vegetarians & gluten free options. Great setting and we enjoyed the unhurried service. Thanks to all the staff.
S.
It's a restaurant in a cave, nothing more to say. Well I will, a very warm welcome from the staff and even though we were 30 minutes early we were shown to our table. The Sunday roast we had, one chicken, one pork and one beef. The food was outstanding and so was the friendly service from our waitress. Highly recommend eating here.
B. T.
Fantastic pub with beatiful caves ! Good place for romantic evening with girlfriend or boyfriend ;)
K. R.
Lovely venue and the food was great. My only gripe really is the unisex toilets... pee all over the floor and no mirrors. Yes it can smell a bit damp... but seeing as it is in a cave, it is to be expected!
A. G.
Not been here for a year, food is still of a good standard. £23 for a lamb Sunday dinner is ridiculous.
You can get equally as good food in London for less.
Table service wasn’t great, had to ask twice for my drinks. Find the manager very rude, she clearly doesn’t want to be there. The young staff are great on the other hand. Would I return, no.
A. E.
Couple of drinks tonight. Amazing venue, bar like a European (French/Dutch) bar and stunningly located dining area
R. B.
The hand and heart is THE best Sunday roast in nottingham, set in the cutest venue. The caves and lighting and overall setting is super chill. Great for a catch up with friends or date night.
Food wise the roast is plentiful with perfectly cooked meats, home made giant yorkies and all the trimmings. Drinks wise theres an excellent selection of beers and wines or soft drinks. The desserts are top notch too. If you can fit it in!
Service and staff are all excellent.

Decent pub, very unique for Nottingham with the caves, well kept beer. The exterior needs work doing as does the internal decor just feel like it needs a good clean, that may be difficult due to the caves. Felt not particularly welcoming for new comers as the average age in the pub was 50+ and all felt like regulars. Worth visiting
M. G.
Great place to eat! My wife and I just happened to be looking for a place to eat and stumbled on this gem. Its built into a cave! Great place for a candle lit dinner and they serve wonderful food! I highly recommend them and I look forward to eating there again!
A. B.
Friendly service in this Derby Road pub, which is hewn into Nottingham's famous sandstone rock. this gives some parts a cosy cave feeling. Good selection of beers. I've eaten here in the past and the food was pretty good. It's a must to drop in to this place if you're either heading up to Canning Circus for drinks there or heading down into town from there.
A. S. I.
A classic old Nottingham pub in the mountain, with a view of the rocks of the cave on the ceiling! Really, such a lovely place to go and hang out, a warm and cozy reprieve from the wet and damp. I would love to go again. The food was quite good (I had the vegetarian roast) - but the chips were exceptional! I would like to try the restaurant some day.
S. M.
Went here with wife sister and brother in law for Sunday lunch surroundings are beautiful service excellent most of all absolutely brilliant will definitely return
L. M.
Lovely pub was not expecting the caves at the back for restaurant also the smoking area was good to. Had a great selection of alcohol (real ales and cider +more) food was fantastic and staff very helpful and kind what more could you ask for!!
K. F.
I always bring my out-of-town guests here to enjoy the local ales and great food. Fish and chips at a cave-side table is a perfect way to show off the local Nottingham culture. Thursday evening is live music night.... always worth stopping in to see what's on.
J. W.
Beer lover's paradise built into some of Nottingham's historic caves.
Wonderful selection of ales with an emphasis on great local beer. Regular beer festivals add to this and the skill of the cellar-person really shine through.
I can't attest to the quality of the food as I've never eaten in the pub but it always looks amazing when it's taken past.
Nice, lively atmosphere and exceptionally attractive interior set-up really complements the great range of quality beer at decent prices!
P. B.
Great pub, built into a rock with caves. I haven't eaten here yet, but I definitely will soon. The food looked and smelled delicious. A good selection of real ales
T. H.
Brilliant quirky pub with a beautiful bar and a cave restaurant. Excellent food and Bass Ale on draught?!?
D. K.
Loved the fact it was built into the caves and was lit with fairy lights. Can't give five stars until my gf and I try the food there. Good selection of ales and ciders!
Update 31/10/18: We went back yesterday to try the food.... absolutely gorgeous! We will be back to try the Sunday Roast, y'know, for "Research Purposes".... 😉
M. M.
Good to see this pub open again. It was a lovely evening, the look of an old tradition pub but with a new atmosphere. A great choice of music playing, loud enough to hear but not intrusive to listening to who you are with. Just one fault, in my opinion, is the unisex toilets. Not everyone is comfortable with that
V.
Really nice place inside of cave, you kust try Sunday lunch on Sunday, great staff, good choice of beer, highly recommend
A. A.
Lovely place. We ate in a romantic room into a cave. The food was good. Waitress was helpful and careful. The steak and bacon pie price is about 13£.
A. M.
Excellent place. A proper pub with an old English vibe. Stone wall cave at the back was really cool. I ate the pork belly and it was incredible. Delicious!
J. G.
Food is amazing, especially the Sunday lunch. There's a (I think) new girl who works there with Doc martens and a nose piercing and she's so lovely!
G. L.
Nice people running this lovely pub situated in Nottingham caves. Lovely food and we felt very welcome. Nice local ales on offer.
B. W.
Honestly one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Loved the whole look and atmosphere of the restaurant. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back next year.
m. a.
Sunday roast done well
P. A.
Lovely pub great atmosphere fabulous food 😀
A. C.
Glad I visited, as it's a unique vibe and the Sunday lunch was really well cooked (if a bit pricey), but there were a few drawbacks that mean I probably won't be hurrying back. There was an unusual, almost toilet like, smell (which could just be what caves smell like to be fair, I've never eaten in one before!), and the Jaipur was a bit too much on the warm side. Also, a very modern problem, but we had no mobile data as a result of being in a cave, and we couldn't access the WiFi. The staff were lovely and attentive, so no complaints at all with the service.
D. G.
Lovely atmosphere especially in the cave. The food is always good. Highly recommended the vegetarian sausage meal as below. Yum.
P. D.
Beautiful atmosphere food fantastic caters for gluten free also great evening g
R. B.
Well worth a visit for a drink in the caves if in the area.
c. m.
Lovely, food great, staff lovely, recommend this place
S. L.
Lovely food, very tasty and freshly prepared. Some good beer and wines. The restaurant is within a cave set at the back of the pub. Great little pub, definitely worth a visit. The bar lady said the Sunday lunches are worth a visit and I can well believe it. Will definitely be going back.
M. L.
Wonderful food, great service, beautiful place!
N. M.
Lovley service and delicious french rose wine. Nice atmosphere and great decorated caves local. Highly recommended!
S. B.
Pub built into caves. Not been for a while but always a pleasure. Something a little different and unique.
A. P.
Stunning venue in a cave, beautifully decorated and the food is stunning!
I had the fish of the day which was sea bass and it was hands down the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside and delicate in the middle.
I'd also recommend the copper ale which is brewed exclusively for the Hand & Heart.
I will return whenever in the area
A. D.
Lovely food and drinks, with its unique expansion into the rock at the back
G. H.
Cosy, quirky but most of all very friendly pub. The food is excellent, especially Sunday lunch.
S. H.
Lovely pub set mostly in a cave. We dined in the restaurant, great setting with fairy lights. Beautiful food, great range of real ales. However, be aware that if you have mobility issues, only gents is on the level. Lots of steps. The staff though, did absolutely all they could to accommodate one of our party who was wheelchair bound.

If you want to have the Nottingham cave dining experience, this is the place to go! Some regular customers recommended the pork belly and it was delicious!
S.
Don’t be deceived by the exterior of this place (or lack of as the name sign was missing when I visited). Such a beautiful interior making use of the cave aesthetic around Nottingham with perfect finishing touches. Drink selection is really varied with good choice of beers and ciders and at a reasonable price. The only negative thing I would say is where we chose to sit there was an unfortunate smell where a bit of febreze wouldn’t go a miss and the seat could use a re-stuffing to make it a bit more comfy, but that wouldn’t stop me from visiting again.
N. M.
This lovely pub serves a fantastic selection of ales and traditional ciders, but the real standout is the food.
They've got a restaurant section extending into the cave behind the main part of the pub and the ambience is incredible. Come here to enjoy a sensational meal - I'd highly recommend the belly pork or the lamb shank.
N. H.
Good food and wine and something different
N. P.
Beautiful cosy restaurant with caves scene and fairy lights hung everywhere. Food was delicious highly recommend the fish and chips
T. P.
You can't beat the ambience in this place. The beer is always good and the staff always have time for you. I visit about once a month and I have never been disappointed. The food is also worth going for and the cave dining room is a lovely place to eat with your loved ones.
The bar has a 40's feel to it and the music compliments as such. You can easily forget that you're in the middle of Nottingham.
You should try this place for sure
H. L.
A hidden gem. This is the second time I've been and it didn't disappoint. I love the cave area where the tables are (especially with the fairy lights!). We all had vegetarian meals and they were stunningly delicious. The staff were friendly too. Thank you!
J.
Pretty cool place. Went on a Sunday & had the Veggie roast. Really good portion sizes, so worth the money. Was super tasty too. The roasties were delish!
A. G.
I have been to this place twice now, both for birthday celebrations. The staff are awesome and knowledgable about the food and beers they sell. They have clearly put a lot of effort into making their customers feel appreciated and it really does make for a lovely dining experience. We even got a free glass of wine last time and one of our servers helped me pick out a new craft beer to try which i loved. They had also ran out of the beer my dad ordered, so the lovely waitress brought an alternative for him to try that she knew was a similar taste. Thoroughly impressed and will be back for meals and maybe even just for drinks at the bar. Stunning service, thank you.
J. W.
One of the first places I ever ate at when visiting Nottingham a few years back, I was first introduced to the pork belly on a Sunday and I stand by it as the best roast dinner I have ever had here. I recently visited again a few weeks ago for a business lunch and the food was as good, if not better. I particularly like sitting in the cave bit, its excellent value for money considering the service and quality.
T. D.
This is a great pub, definitely one of the best in Nottingham. Particularly noteworthy is the way it's partly carved into the rock and makes for a lovely mood and certain cosiness that's quite appealing. Alcohol selection is good with cask ciders and beers changing regularly. Very pleasant staff. Dining and lunch is also offered in a separate area that's quite intimate.
S.
Very welcoming pub with friendly staff and interesting decoration, drinks prices aren't too bad but not the cheapest. The back half of the pub is carved out of caves which is cool. There is also a restaurant in the back half which serves authentic English food.
L. M.
If you have friends coming from out of town and looking for a true Nottingham experience, out of town (but still central located) need parking near by this could well be the place. Firstly its a lovely pub with music on some nights. Some of those music nights are very popular. Then you have the restaurant . set back into the caves and lit with fairy lights its a unique eating experience. All very cosy and certainty makes a talking point. The food is very good . some of those dishes where packed with flavour. Have eaten here a fair few times now and never been dissatisfied. Upstairs is a great area for smoking.
R. R.
Love this pub/restaurant! Always great service, and has a good range of ales and ciders on tap. You can eat at the back tucked away in the cave (?) romantic atmosphere with candles. Also just good for a few pints in the evening with cosy chairs by a fire. Couldn't ask for anything more.
C. C.
Simply the best; Good beer good food excellent friendly service good company and no children what more could you want. I don't mean to offend people wanting to dine out with their children but there are many other places that cater for them. Perhaps the Hand and heart could make this clear in their publicity to avoid disappointment. But for me and many others this is a Great pub!
G. D.
You will not get a Sunday dinner more satisfying than here. Guaranteed.
r. g.
Great sunday roast, plenty of veggie options and a nice range of drinks. We sat down in the cave which had a fantastic atmosphere and was something a little different to anywhere else. More than anything else though the staff really made the experience a cut above, friendly and accommodating. An absolute must.
A. D.
Just simply love this little place. Food is really nice and reasonably priced, from both the main menu or they offer a seasonal set menu. Lovely area to sit upstairs which is bright and airy, or the cozy atmospheric cave to eat your lunch in. Friendly and polite staff. We'll worth a visit if you live or are visiting Nottingham.
D. A.
Nice cosy atmosphere within the sandstone caves
B. M.
Sat down with friends to have dinner. Apparently if you have dinner and want a beer, you have to get up and go to the bar but not if you have anything else. I got the impression the waitress just didn't remember any of the beers she had and couldn't be bothered to find out for a table of young people. Otherwise, the food was good and portions were large.
B. R.
Cosy and characterful pub. Fascinating caves integrated into the pub at the back. Food looks and smells good, and I've heard it's excellent, although I've yet to eat there. Bonus points for being doggy friendly and having very pro-dog staff 🐕
S. C.
Such a nice old style pub. Restaurant is set back in the caves and does amazing food at good value. Comfy seating and one of the best smoking areas in Nottingham. Large beer and cider selection. Allows dogs. Nice friendly staff. I cannot fault this pub. Go see for yourself.
E. L.
Brilliant overall atmosphere, owner was extremely helpful and friendly. The Victorian-esque decor was very interesting and made even more unique with parts of the pub being in Nottingham's caves. Will be back again !
L. J.
I have been here a few times and have always loved it. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They also have a great selection of ales and whiskeys. It is the perfect place to go for a nice meal or some drinks. The cave also creates a great private atmosphere too.
B. B.
Wonderful: a cut above the average gastropub. Great service. Staff able to identify wheat-free options for me. The vegan and vegetarian food is just as good as the omnivore options and leaves no-one disappointed.
G. P.
Food is always great, it's an atmosphere to be sat in the caves too! Perfect place for a celebration meal (graduation) and they also do stellar Sunday lunches! But it's better to book in advance!
C. A.
Really interesting building, the caves underneath have been turned into a dining area and a snug, the dining area is so pretty with the fairy lights. And there's a really good smoking area upstairs that is covered. Staff were very nice too.
g.
Extensive beer choices, good food (the Sunday lunch and breakfast menu are both highly recommended), friendly staff and a nice relaxed atmosphere. If going for Sunday lunch be sure to book and try to get a table in the caves.
A. M.
Built into the Sandstone caves, this place has a great atmosphere. The meat pie was delicious, as were the fish and chips. That said, the staff could have been a little more attentive, and friendlier.
J. B.
Best roast I’ve had out for a long time.
P. B.
Awesome place to drink and eat highly recommended.
C. A.
Best Sunday dinners in Nottingham. Service is always spot on. Good selection of beers.
K. D.
Food was really good. Very good choice of beers. Not sure if wás understaffed but an order for coffee at the bar took 25 minutes. All staff ought to learn to smile. It would be nice to feel welcome. But again I say the food was very good.
A. E.
Food was delicious and drink was good. The staff were really helpful and friendly and let us taste beer before ordering. It's really cosy and nice to sit in the caves with fairy lights. Would recommend.
S. J.
Had the roast dinner with my family. It was amazing, good sized meals, reasonably priced and an absolutely stunning atmosphere. Staff are so friendly and welcoming there too!
M. M.
A lovely pub situated on the Canning Circus section of Derby Road, and set back into the sandstone that has afforded Nottingham so many artificial caves. The back room is raw rock decorated with candles, a popular section for dining. The pub always has 7 or 8 real ales on; the open area in the main bar is sometimes used for live music; and there is even a deli behind the bar area to compliment the already impressive cooked food menu. A must for anyone trying out Nottingham's better pubs.
g. m.
Quieter pub during the day at weekends. Good selection of beers, pub carved into the sandstone is pretty cool!
D. P.
Great boozer, beer and food top drawer
M. R.
As other reviewers have pointed out, a large selection of ales and wine. The Sunday roasts are second to none. There's a dining area in a cave and another in a rooftop conservatory. Worth the 10 minute walk from the city centre. Enjoy.
K. H.
Great pub a stone's throw from the centre of Nottingham on Derby Rd. Quirky restaurant set into the Sandstone caves. One star off as have visited and dined here before and were not nearly so impressed with the food this time. Staff have changed since our last visit so may be under new management or just an off day(?). Great free entertainment with live bands regularly appearing in the bar area which makes for a really good atmosphere - if not a bit of a squash sometimes! Popular with Park locals.
b.
Great setting, food and staff, just wish it sold some proper ciders.
K. B.
A great choice of ale that made the visit more enjoyable as they tend to get obscure beers in you will not find in other Nottingham pubs. Great staff and I love the dining cave even though I never ate there.
R.
This is a really cosy restaurant just out of the city centre. There is space for you to just have a drink and they have a good selection of real ales. It’s built into the caves so has a great atmosphere inside.
A. C.
A great hidden gem of Nottingham, I love the cyaracter of this cave turned pub. A very cozy atmosphere, great drinks selection, and probably the most comfortable smoking area I've ever seen.
J. P.
Busy pub, recommended for food, entertainment by friend
H. L.
Very good food. Best nut roast I’ve had. Lovely place, feels very historic and cosy. Just a shame the ladies toilets don’t feel as nice as everything else.
F. S.
Fantastic pub with a fair selection of draught ales.
Feels like a TARDIS: the restaurant part of the pub goes 50-some yards into the sandstone, which gives an absolutely brilliant atmosphere.
Quite a few board games for pub customers to play.
S. C.
Extreamly tasty food, great menu selection of wines too. Would highly recommend, great freindly staff who look after you and know their stuff.
Perfect idea for a date or to spend some time with friends.
B. D.
Top quality beer and caves to sit in. Food isn't half bad either
J. P.
Cosy pub with friendly knowledgeable staff and a good beer and cider selection. We visit regularly for the good food served in the back restaurant which is cosily carved into the sandstone rock. The candles and twinkly lights add to the feeling of "hygge". Thursday nights are good for live music.
c. g.
Excellent well worth the visit and amazing food
T. A.
Very cosy pub, quite friendly stuff and decent variation of beers and whiskeys. Not that great food, though, but considering the place it was good enough. Really loved the atmosphere.
J. H.
gorgeous pub which is mostly caves- good selection of drinks on tap and regularly have live music. Very atmospheric setting and a must visit for tourists or locals.
P. C.
Well worth a visit if in Nottingham great drinks first class food one of the best meals we have had in a long time absolutely excellent and fantastic customer service
A. F.
Quirky Pub just outside the City Centre. Hope you like Caves! Reasonable Real Ale selection and friendly bar staff. Food served and it is always very good. Go and see the inside outside room.
P. B.
Quirky, really interesting experience, willing staff, acceptable menu, food good and prices acceptable. We use this place because they allow us a private room that copes with 12 people comfortably and we will be repeat visitors 😉👍
B. Y.
Certain member of staff is brilliant really want to know who she is so I can post how nice and attentive she is, unfortunately even tho I think the landlady is a lovely person she just seems very out of her depths, bring back the crazy landlady from years before God she was amazing 😁😁😁😁 foot marks on tables o dear
A. F.
Favourite place for a roast dinner in Nottingham
D. F.
Great selection of ales and whiskey (the latter with a tasting chart). Great variety of live acts especially folky ones. Food is just awesome, and the pub itself, so cosy.
F. D.
First time in here for years. Lots of character and busy for food, although we didn't eat. The roof terrace we found really needed a tidy up so stayed in the bar area
S. H.
You must visit. Built in a sandstone cave this place serves a varying range of beers and excellent food. The service is spot on too - visit; recommended.
M. P.
Exceptional service, brilliant food and a great selection of beers. Ambiance is second to none, Saturday night was a very memorable event, not sure it will be bettered.
H. C.
Great food! Really friendly and welcoming staff. If you can get a table in th caves I couldn't recommend it more
マ.
Great atmosphere in a friendly pub built into a cave. They have a good selection of ales which changes regularly, but tend to run out which reduces the options quite a bit.
M. H.
Very old pub and first time l,ve ever been in..worth a visit
g. p.
Great night. Great food.
L. W.
The pub is great the staff are good but the food is definitely not worth the price you pay. 1 not hot 2 we had sprouts they were like golf balls and 3 very skinny on meat.
S. B.
Loved this hidden gem, so glad we came across it.The food was all very nice and Loved the sticky toffee pudding! Atmosphere was good too. Will return:)
L. H.
Sunday lunch as always absolutely lovely!
G. J.
Looks can be deceptive.
A bit plain on the outside but interesting and unusual on the inside.
Decent selection of cask ales and good food.
Add to that nice atmosphere and attentive staff.
Winner.
D. C.
Nice unusual place because of being set in a cave good beer selection well worth a visit and with the wealth of real ale pubs in and around Derby Road you can make a night of it
G. E.
Amazing service , warm friendly staff , young gentleman served us with a professional manner, gets out order spot on every time , food served beautifully fresh and piping hot , been a few times now and plan on going many more times .
D. A.
Excellent place for food and drinks, real sense of character in all of the different areas
A. W.
There's very few places I'll go for a Sunday roast in Nottingham, this little gem is one of them.
The food is delicious, and the staff are lovely. I can't recommend it enough.
G. C.
Good beer that changes regularly been coming for years friendly bar staff unique cave pub nice meals worth the extra cost regular music nights
D. L.
A fantastic pub but if you are taking a big group with you, then you may find it to be cramped. Other than that it's worth a visit.
S. L.
Great beer and wonderful setting.
L. C.
Built into a cave so great atmosphere. Fab steak pie and best ever chips!!!
M. P.
Always friendly and well priced with a great selection of real ales. Food is great but make sure you prebook a table as it's always full on weekends!

Fantastic drinks selection including craft beers to sip and or to take home and AWESOME food. Even the smoking area is special. Visit
J. G.
Food is more than excellent! We were very happy to eat there. Beers are lovely as well.

Cosy atmosphere, cave interior which is pretty cool - quite quiet when we went but drinks weren't too expensive. Food looked more costly.
S. P.
Good British cuisine and cosy atmosphere. The rock cave dinner room is amazing, unique Nottingham feature

This is a really nice pub for a romamtic meal or for a group get together. It has a great ambience and has plenty of character.

A cute little pub on the outskirts of Lenton, perfect for a quiet intimate drink.
Cheap drinks, a cosy lay-out and lots of seating. What more could you want!
