A. P.Good and atmosphere always brilliant. We visited on a weekday right at the start of lunch when they were training new kitchen staff so there was a bit of a wait for food. But as an apology, completely unprompted, they brought us an extra brown of chips. Beer is always good and it's one of my favourite pub grub places with vegan options in Nottingham

H.Very mixed experience, the attitude and poor service from the first 3 staff members we experienced was so bad, we discussed leaving before we had managed to get a drink or ordered, and going for pizza across the road instead. Hate feeling as though the staff are doing you a favour to get you a drink, especially when you have waited nearly 30 minutes and asked repeatedly. Not a friendly or warm welcome for myself or any of our group who all arrived separately and shared the same experience.
Change of staff serving us and the experience changed completely, she was helpful, warm and informed. The food was quite nice, and good value.

A.A delicious variety of vegan food and friendly staff. The atmosphere is really nice but sometimes drunk people can be annoying, although that's to be expected when you're dining in a pub. Desserts are yum here too!

M. S. R.Well. Only three stars from me 😔. I was really looking forward to this visit, but it didn't quite live up to expectations. The pub is a lovely premises and the beer selection excellent and well-kept. The first staff member was helpful and polite and my pint of neipa tasty. The nachos though, weren't. The crème fraiche was so runny it was probably normal cream. The beef on top was cold and the cheese missing.
Then I asked another staff member if my growler could be filled with some of their local beer. The manager was contacted, and I was told the manager would come to give me a 'talking to' about 'the rules' and that they probably couldn't sell me beer in my growler anyway. I decided not to wait for my 'talking to' and left without what I had hoped would have been my tasty reward for trawling down the M1 to home. Pity.

I had the carnivore burrito which wasn't the greatest in quality and not worth the 45 minute wait. My partner had the gluten free fish and chips which was a good portion and decent quality.

C. S.What a brilliant place! I am a disabled person and can't stand up for more than a few seconds without pain. I emailed the Old Angel in advance of a gig I was attending. The lady I spoke to, Jen, was very helpful. On the night of the gig, she was very proactive and supplied me with two seats as soon as she saw me. I was able to see the whole gig and no one stood in from of me. It was great! I am incredibly grateful for her help and that of other staff at the pub.
As a venue the Old Angel is excellent. The sound is great, crystal-clear. The pub itself is quirky with lots of nooks and crannies. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and friendly. Definitely drop in if you're passing.

g. p.Outstanding. The Chef on tonight, tall with curly hair? Amazing food. Cannot fault it. The kitchen he kept spotless and all the meals coming out looked superb. The service from the staff was brilliant. Catered for us bringing in a birthday cake. Kept it in the back for us and brought it out as a surprise after our meal. A Tuesday night and this place was busy and I'm not suprised. Our new favourite place. Epic vegan&veggie food. Thanks for a fab evening

By far and away the most superb pub in Nottingham, a constant selection of unique and interesting beers. I believe they are all vegan, I am not vegan myself but appreciate that my vegan friends can enjoy it as well.
The atmosphere is lovely and welcoming, well kept with bundles of charm and care. The staff are all fantastic and the food is top notch as well!
I have brought in a couple of Trainee guide dogs before and have always been well looked after. Whether I am there for a good session of beer and food or a quick one after work (don't tell the girlfriend!) It always meets my need 10/10!

J. D.Great selection of craft beers, some of which are brewed on site by the team. You can sit next to the stainless steel tanks and have a pint of what’s inside which is cool. Lively atmosphere and good live music on the weekends but gets really packed so difficult to find a seat on the weekends especially if more than two of you in a group. Weeknights are quieter and it’s a good place for a quiet half after work. Food looked liked standard pub fare, but not tried it yet so couldn’t comment. Overall lovely place for an interesting beer with friendly staff.

P. K.Have been there a few times. My daughter is vegan and I am vegetarian, so their menu usually suits us well. Today however, there was less choice because they had run out of several options. The food was very nice, with the exception of the parsnip soup. It tasted nothing like parsnip, but more like curry, and was too peppery and spicy to eat. The dessert we chose was also unavailable, so we had the brownies with ice cream, lovely! Because we had had several disappointments with our order, we were given back the cost of the dessert. How nice. Will continue to go there, people and atmosphere are nice and relaxed.

P. R.Always worth a stop for a beer or food. The restaurant is great for vegetarians and vegans and of course meat eaters to. I am always willing to stop in and have a meal here as it's always great quality. I would definitely reccomend stopping in here for some great food and beer. Just updated this review as I went again, another great meal and beer! Now up to a 5 star.

G. L.The Angel is quickly becoming one of my favourite pubs in Nottingham. It has a very laid back feel about it and everyone is very friendly. But then you'd expect nothing less as it's run by the people behind the Alley cafe. Also like the Alley cafe the food is great and there are nice vegetarian/vegan options. The beer is good with lots of options. There is a courtyard out the back which is perfect for large groups on a hot summers evening. This is my idea of a cool pub.
F. K.Good food and selection of beers and really like the style of music played by the dj when we’ve been for a Sunday lunch. All lends to a very pleasant atmosphere and had we not have gone with three small people my rating would likely be higher. However, for a pub it is very disappointing that they’re not set up to accommodate families at all - no high chairs and no baby changing facilities. And the staff were almost rude when we requested if they did. I would have expected alternative options to be provided in the least.

If I had one suggestion, the staff need to pay a bit more attention with orders. Missing items, and then served real ice cream when vegan was ordered. A shame as the food is seriously nice!
R. A.Good beer. Food promised much and looked okay but massively disappointed on flavour. I guess I'd have been happy enough on the discount day, Wednesday or Thursday I believe. There could be more accessible information about beers, ciders etc as the staff were less than enthusiastic about disclosing what was on offer. Perhaps 7pm on a Friday was expecting too much of them but they seemed more interested in talking to each other and preening themselves than in good old fashioned, and probably unfashionable, customer service. The whole experience was rather average I am afraid.
I. H.Delighted to visit this old haunt with my daughter who was a student here twenty years ago. Still lots to recommend for a visit. Big discount on draught beers before 8pm (25% if I recall correctly but probably not weekends - we were there Wednesday). Vinyl nights! But the bring your own CD Jukebox has gone 😢 Big selection of beers and wines covering real ales continental beers and US style craft beer. Lovely staff and eclectic customers in a lively quarter of Nottingham.

r. B.Had a brilliant couple of nights here recently. All the bar staff are very friendly and express the kind of atmosphere one would expect from a great pub - warmth, smiles, brilliant service, prepared to join in the fun and will go the extra mile to ensure you have a great time- they actually enjoy the job, unlike some places where short tempered, rude barstaff who let you know they would rather be at home. Excellent selection of fine and rare beers, some made on site.

P. W.No, it's not the same as it was as The Old Angel, but that's to be expected. So now? Well, the beer is very good - particularly the in-house brews - and prices are on par for the area, a little cheaper if anything. And the music is great. Also good service, and - thank god - the toilets are more than serviceable. Would recommend!

r. d.What a great pub. Cool music at exactly the right volume delivered by a DJ. Low low prices, a stylish and eclectic bunch of customers. Not too crowded on a Friday night although that could be thanks to students being on hols. Definitely right up there in my personal favourite pubs list either way and that's out of the entire country, not just Nottingham.

m. j.Nice vibe. Very handy for Motorpoint Arena and for town centre. We had food very late (9:30pm -last orders food 10pm). It didn't quite hit the spot - the food we saw when we passed through earlier in the day looked much more appetising, so next time I'll go earlier for food. The Angel microbrewery standard beer was nice. Staff very friendly. Busy place. Will go again.
S. P.I have know this place many years, it had a rough and grit edge, heavy rock sometimes. Since it was renewed and complemented with a microbrewery, the atmosphere is more sophisticated but still with character. Now it's perfect for anyone, for drinks and food

Great, warm, welcoming feel and good live music programme. One of Nottingham's independents, microbrewery on-site: definitely one not to miss.
T. H.Beautiful Christmas meal, had the spiced pumpkin soup and the vegan Wellington, so happy with all the vegan drink options. 1 point deducted as it was so cold! We had to keep our coats on, a bit warmer and it would have been the perfect pub.

The menu features both herbivore (vegan, gluten free) and carnvore versions of most offerings, we sampled two of herbivore options. We're going to have to find an excuse to return to Nottingham again very soon to eat there again. Thank you. :)

J. L.One of the few pubs in Nottingham where you can sit and enjoy a drink that was made in the same room. The homemade ales are typically very good and the setting is also inviting. Good in the summer or winter, this pub is one of my personal favorites in the city.

R. C.Roast was tasty but nothing really special (no extras such as cauliflower cheese or stuffing, etc) with good vegetarian/ vegan options. Main issue was the fact I was unable to get hold of the restaurant- I emailed twice, Facebook messaged and called multiple times and no one replied (still haven’t!) or answered the phone. I looked past this and went to the restaurant anyway and one staff member made me feel a bit stupid for asking questions/ was quite rude. Unfortunately, Wouldn’t really recommend this place as it was all a bit meh, which is a shame as I wanted to love it!

s. h.It took no small amount of courage to finally venture into the Angel after it changed hands and had a refurb. I'd spent most of my late teens/twenties frequenting the place and have many happy memories from there so I was worried about being disappointed with its new look.
Shouldn't have worried, it's a cracking little place with a decent variety of drinks and very friendly staff. My partner was so impressed with the Gins on offer that I suspect she contemplated moving in!
Sometimes change can be bad but not in this case, it's not the same place that I practically grew up in but that's no bad thing. Will definitely visit again (and again...)

M. D.Cozy and quaint atmosphere with a limited menu for true meat eaters. The steak and stilton salad was actually quite filling, but one of the few carnivore items listed. If you're looking for a standard beer, look elsewhere. They've got good beers, but mainly microbrews.

It didn't say this on their website, social media or anywhere in the pub that we could see. Was told this as we went up to the bar to order. Very disappointing, considering the food is very nice but not sure I would go back again.
P. S.The Old Angel Pub as many people will still know it as is located in the fashionable lace-market area in the city centre. For years it was one of the few pubs to cater for Nottingham's alternative music scene (the other's as I recall being the venue in Hockley which is now know as The Social, and of course Rock City). It used to be something of a spit and sawdust place but in recent times has undergone a revamp and moved up market a bit. I wasn't quite sure what to expect during my first brief visit in a number of years recently, but I was happy to see despite it now being a trendy microbrewery it still seems to be hanging-on to it's alternative roots.
E.Love the menu layout - herbivore / omnivore. At last somewhere that offers a vegan version of every dish on the menu but isn’t fluffy about it. Just reet good plant based food, and all the beers on tap were vegan too!

I. L.I gave 5 stars to this place 8 months ago, but since then the prices changed dramatically. It used to be my next door pub, and I would like to go there every night almost, but the prices are ridiculously high! Almost 100% more expensive than any other pub in Nottingham. It's a shame that a double Whisky costs 10 pounds, which compered to an average pub the same thing costs 5-6.5 pounds...

A. J.Been here a few times and slowly working my way through the herbivore menu! Last night I tried the ‘steak’, obviously I didn’t expect it to be that amazing! I mean it’s a vegan steak haha oh my goodness! It was incredible. Now you meat eaters, don’t think it’s going to be like slicing into a sirloin haha because it’s not. However it did remind me of pork medallions! A lovely crispy outside with a delicious ‘chard’ flavour and a lovely chewy texture to the middle. This was served with amazing fries and veg! Honestly probably my favourite thing I’ve tried on the menu and everything is pretty amazing! 😁 oooo and the house red wine was bang on! Thanks guys 👍🏼

K. S.I did not visit the bar area. Attended a comedy show in the function room upstairs. The layout was relatively long and thin. Sound system was overly loud and the microphone cutout several times during the gig. might best suited to loud heavy metal bands and similar.

The beer and cider selection is pretty good, bit its definitely a hipster establishment. Even so, if you're in the area, dont miss it!
