Reviews of The Barrel Drop

This pub is a sister pub of the Crafty Crow and tucked away down a little alley off the main drag. We were the only ones there when we went but I can imagine the atmosphere would be great in the evening. The craft beer menu was certainly interesting and this place is definitely worth a visit.
P. M.
A hidden gem just off Market square down a narrow alley (Hurts yard). Small place with great relaxed atmosphere, probably due to friendly, welcoming staff. Beer selection is great - plenty of local stuff and unusual crafts, particularly some excellent stouts. Can try lots by having thirds as well as halves! Will look to call in whenever I am in town...
L. B.
A lot of beer love and heart here. Decent size and homely. Stout fobbing when I visited (it happens). Docked a star only because the competition in Nottingham is so high and would have liked to see a slightly broader range of styles on offer. I am being super fussy here....The Barrel Drop is very highly recommended.

A place to go for people who love real ale and craft beers. The barman knew his stuff, was passionate about the product and very happy to give samples. First time I have been and I am definitely going back.
D. W.
Some excellent and exciting new beers. Board is a little misleading as the price it set for the 'pint' I asked for was for two-thirds of a pint, not a full pint. So it turned out to be more expensive - especially when there were four of us - than expected. So enjoy the fairly expensive ales, but double check the prices.
A. T.
Hidden gem large selection of real ales. Brewery tap for Magpie ales. Great beers, lovely staff, board games excellent atmosphere well done 👏 👏👍
M. V.
Nice beers. Always slightly awkward seating arrangements. Never sure if you should sit or stand with a group of 6-10 people.
H. H.
The staff were very friendly and professional , knew their product really well and served a lovely pint ,we had to stay longer than we should have just to make sure it wasn't a fluke 😂
D. K.
Great little pub tucked away down a little alley, beer was great will definitely be back next time I'm in Nottingham
M. F.
Literally the best place in Nottingham…. The staff are amazing, knowledgeable and friendly!
Tom’s choice is king! .
(Tom is the man….)
I’ll be here, every time I come back to Nottingham!
R. M.
Great little pub with a range of keg and cask beer. Really central location, but tucked away, so bit of a hidden gem.
T. C.
A lovely little bar with an astounding selection of craft and real ales. A great atmosphere.
S. B.
A nice quality pub, down a narrow alley, well worth seeking out, and a great selection of quality ales
N. W.
Good pint of IPA. Only had time for one beer otherwise I would have tried the stout.
t. l.
Great little micro brewery bar and many beers to choose from and great prices
D. H.
A lovely little oasis of calm even on a hectic Saturday night, this pub does traditional real ales from Magpie brewery and guest ales, as well as some ciders and trendy canned craft beers. The only negatives are how early they ring the bell (closing is 2230 on Saturday) and being able to hear the music from the club opposite. You do have to go down an alley to find it so be bold and don't miss it!
M. B.
Lovely warm friendly bar tucked away. Excellent beers. A hidden gem!
G. G.
Fantastic little pub. Small but full of character. And great cask beers from Nottingham's Magpie Brewery plus loads of craft beers, bottles, cans and keg.
C. B.
Really chilled environment with a great variety of beers! Servers where one of the nicest people ever! There are options for non beer drinkers, such as wine and soft drinks. No food, only packed snacks though, but other than that it's a really nice place to chill and have a beer with friends
J. S.
Nice little tap tucked away on a back street in the center of Nottingham, had a good range of beers and friendly staff, beers were a little expensive bur were very nice.
E. B.
Parma violet prosecco. 💜 It's the nectar of the gods. Great little pub.
R. M.
Superb little find. Excellent beer, a lovely place.
A. W.
Great little pub tucked out the way serving craft beers. Friendly and helpful staff.
A. J.
Great place with a fantastic range of beers! Well worth hunting out.
R. B.
Great place. Good drink selection, small, and hidden away. Keeps out the rif raf !!!
E. H.
Great micro pub always good beer on, friendly chatty staff good place for a cosy group of friends with bored games or quiet. a pint
V. E.
One of the only places accepting walk ins without a queue when we went out. Staff were friendly at the door and sat us down straight away. Interesting to try different ales. Lovely decor. Don't understand why it was so quiet to be honest
J. M.
What a lovely pub. Tucked away and well hidden... went in on a busy Friday night and felt like we weren't in the city centre. A great range of real ale to choose from. Lovely place!
A.
One of my favourite pubs in Nottingham fabulous selection of real ales
A. P.
Ace place with ace staff. Magpie beers (which are vegan) are always on but others as well. Only slight issue is it's a bit small but I like that, there are big pubs if you want them
M. C.
Need to come back more often. The beer offering was as ace.
C. W.
Nice prices and service was good as well! They let you buy half, ⅔ and ⅓ pints here so worth a visit if you're wanting to try multiple ales/stouts. And they've got a pretty big selection on the menu given the circumstances.
C. J.
A cosy pub with a chance to sample Magpie Brewery beers.
A. M.
Great little pub. Stumbled across this by chance and ended up staying for several hours enjoying a range of ales and playing board games.
A. E.
Fabulous little bar, hidden right in the city centre. Always several cask and keg options, including a lager and a range of different beers.
C. T.
Fantastic micro pub, good selection of beers, great atmosphere and board games!
Still fantastic little place, highly recommended!!
M. H.
Another of Nottingham's hidden gems. Fantastic choice of cask and keg on offer. An even bigger selection of bottles and cans too.
G. L.
The Barrel drop (If you can find it) is a small low key bar that serves great beer. Currently owned by the Magpie Brewery, it serves an interesting range of both cask and keg beers, (and ciders too) the sort of place where you never order the beer you had last time because there's always something new to try. This is a friendly place and they have a range of board games and the like but neither of these capture the essence of barrel drop properly. It's quaint, it's small and the beer's great!
L. B.
Fantastic venue, with some great locally sourced fine ales. A great place to visit
P. Y.
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this pub. Brilliant range of drinks, excellent service, wonderful atmosphere, super decor. Very secure in terms of covid safety.
M. D.
Very cosy micro pub good selection of ales, craft beer and ciders. Defiantly worth a visit
T. S.
Hidden away in a sneaky little alley you'll find a proper craft beer pub. The Barrel Drop serves exotic and exciting beer from good breweries (world wide) in a cosy, intimate atmosphere and with skilled personnel behind the bar - ready to explain, guide and provide tasting samples from the interesting beer selection.
If you are looking for a place to enjoy good beer and have a great time with friends - The Barrel Drop will not disappoint you!
I. L.
Great place! In the centre of Nottingham with a big variety of ale and friendly staff. The service is very good and the people are ready to help you find your taste among their beer selection. A good place to have a pint and a friendly chat without the need of shouting.
W. G.
Having passed by this charming place a few times on my way to 400 Rabbits, I thought it was time I went in. All I can say is that I wish I had done so sooner: a really friendly atmosphere with a wide selection of local beer, cider and gin. Plus when it was quiet the barman asked if there was any music I wanted to hear rather than just playing their own which was a nice welcoming touch. Will go again.
S.
Great selection of beers, a cosy pub with a lovely feel
N. B.
Great mix of craft beers on draft and some nice options in the fridges too
D. S.
Excellent out of the way place to relax and have a craft beer. This place is hidden down an alley. Missed it the first time looking for it. Only downside there is no wifi and mobile reception is horrible but not their fault. We came here several times and the people pouring the beers were very friendly.
R. S.
Hidden gem, staff always friendly and helpful, nice range of cask and keg
A. L.
Never had a bad beer in here. Staff are always friendly and easy to chat with. More of quieter place as you don't get as much foot traffic. Just keeps this gem of a bar more of a secret!
P. D.
What a wonderful find! The Barrel Drop is a warm, thoughtfully-designed space. Friendly barman happy to answer my questions regarding how long I’ve been unaware it was there 🙂 And then the icing on this particularly enjoyable cake was that he started strumming his guitar and singing! Not too loudly - just right... A couple of pints each and we had reluctantly to pull ourselves away into the cold again. We’ll be back...
B. N.
Great beer. Plenty of choice of real ales, craft and ciders. Can't remember barmans name, but he knows his beers. Don't know what you want? Ask for advice. You won't be disappointed.
J. H.
Good choice of craft beers.
Friendly.
M. G.
I used to prefer it before they removed the gravity casks behind the bar. Still a decent place though with some good beer. Junior Who Want To Be A Millionaire board game is my usual entertainment here.
O. M.
A great little craft beer hide out just up the road from cucamara, once you've had a couple of tequila slammers you can grab a beer or two.
The staff here are always helpful and friendly, it's pretty small, probably fits about.30 people in it, normally.about 20 beers on the go.
Well worth a visit if you like beer.
P. H.
Nice quirky place with board games, good selection of drinks and friendly knowledgable staff. Only dropped a star because everything was a bit sticky and need of a good wipe down but will put that down to maybe having turned up after a rush and will happily return!
a. s.
Great pub friendly staff
S. W.
Fabulous little real ale bar with a massive range and friendly well informed staff. Great selection of board games as well and quite an active board gaming community. Highly recommended.
B. B.
Worth finding down a ginal for peace from the maddening crowd and the popular pubs, especially on a Friday night. Don't expect food, but do expect a superb range of beers and ciders here, in an atmosphere we're folk are chatty, but not loud.
M. D.
Nice and cosy and the staff were friendly and helpful. Had a small selection of board games too.
S. P.
It no longer smells funny in here! Much improved! Love the choice of pub games and beers. The fairy lights and plants are a nice touch.
R. p.
Great ales good prices
L. L.
Fantastic bar / pub. 6 to 7 specially selected ale and cider. Cosy surrounding. Great for chat or a quick shopping stop. Located in an alley just off the main Street
S. C.
Small batch craft beers and ciders here , polite staff were friendly and eager to advise on selection of quality drinks at sensible prices , small room but cosy . A must for the serious beer drinkers .
E. E.
Super micro pub selling decent real ale and craft beers. Tucked away down a tiny alley behind a kebab shop. Conveniently near Rock City.
A. W.
A really likable micropub hidden away well enough that it doesn't get too busy. A good selection of ales, all of which have been well kept in my experience.

Great little place hidden out the way of the busy street, tasty beer selection on cask and tap with some nice bottles and cans also.
M. F.
Same ownership as Hop Gate, Derby. Fine little place down an alley. Good ranges of hard to find brews of both the cask and keg variety.
B. G.
Really nice real ale pub. Nice and cosy inside with plenty of choice of ales. Staff are really friendly and gave plenty of help when choosing.
J. R.
Cool little bar hidden away in a jitty. Lovely vibe and nice ales/craft/cider. Also board games and the world's smallest Jenga!
K. B.
Excellent choice of beer unfortunately it seems to be at room temperature on the cask. Need an up-to-date cooling method as I can see a lot of good beers been unappreciated or going down the drain
A. H.
Interesting tucked away pub down a tight alley. Beers available from the barrel. For me it's just 3 stars but people into their real ale may rate a bit higher
K. D.
Highly recommended. Excellent range of ales, very knowledgeable staff. Thanks Meagan for the takeout. You won’t be disappointed. Much love.
T. N.
Love this place. Small, cosy and friendly. Perfect for a last beer before the bus home. Always a good beer.
P. R.
A tiny hidden and beery gem in the centre of town. Interesting and eclectic beer menu, cosy ambience and a couple of board games make this a great place to stop off at on a night out.
S. K.
Out the way pub down an alleyway with very little space but a great aesthetic. A reasonable selection of tipples, just don't expect oodles of choice.
J. S.
Took ages to find it but it was worth it. Friendly service and good beer. Was particularly impressed by the beer from the Magpie brewery.
H. a. D. B.

Always takes the use of Google Maps to find Hurts Yard and the people I was with were questioning the direction...they all changed their mind once in this quaint location. Ale quality is always spot on just missing the Chili Nuts this time
