Lovely place. Tasteful decor. Didn't eat there this time around but did enquire about gluten-free options which we have been advised they have many. Had an ale or two. Relaxing atmosphere with a warm ambiance.

Be aware that the prices you see on the website, for food, are out of date and there has been at least £1.50, added to some meals.
Friendly and welcoming staff
The menu isn't huge, but has some weird and wonderful portions, including Lincolnshire poacher and truffle custard to start, hake Kiev, mussels, rib & chuck burger (just a beef burger really), egg custard, baked Alaska or cheese board to finish.
Lovely open plan restaurant at the back in an extension.
Seemed to be able to cope when there were only a few tables, but once it got busy, the staff seemed a little flustered, so much so, we had to wait over 30 minutes for our desserts, due to them being behind with checks.
No one checked on us to see if our meals were ok or if we needed anything.
This place isn't cheap and this is down to the fact it has recently been awarded an AA rosette.
The food was very nice, but I won't be rushing back.

Excellent food and service. The music is suitable and calm. It is worth to check it out next time you are close.

Been here a couple of times since the Griffin has been re-opened. Went for Sunday lunch and then Saturday evening. Both times the food was unbelievably tasty! The steak on Saturday night was one of the best steaks i have had in a long time.
Also the staff are so friendly and welcoming, there is a good vibe to the whole place. Would highly recommend.

Amazing pub, wonderfully decorated. The food was excellent and the staff was very polite and helpful. Although we were lucky enough to walk in and find a table, reservations are highly recommended. Overall an excellent experience. This was our first time here, but we will definitely become regulars.

Only had a couple of Vodka Tonics sat with friends in the garden, but the venue is beautifully decorated and very welcoming, the garden has been superbly crafted and is a wonderful place to enjoy the weather whilst chilling out with friends.
I would say no expense has been spared in creating such a lovely environment. 5* well deserved!

A lovely space and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Prices are competitive and could stand being a little higher.
The person I was dining with enjoyed his unusual dish of hake Kiev which was beautifully presented but my traditional dish of gammon and chips was disappointing with too large chips and a very thick and chewy piece of meat. The egg, which I had asked to be lightly cooked on top, was almost leathery. However, everything else was very good and the coffee and ice-cream dessert was enjoyed hugely by the person sitting opposite me.
One thing to be aware of: the sample menu shown on the website IS the menu. It isn't particularly seasonal (suet pie is not what I would consider a summer dish) and I suspect it doesn't get changed very often.
We have had lunch here in the past and that was excellent.

Best meal we have had in a pub / restaurant in Nottingham in a long time. Visited for the first time on a Saturday lunchtime and choose main meals from the menu. Super impressed by the quality of the meals, service and atmosphere. Whole party agreed that we would definitely be visiting again.

Just been here for Sunday roast with a table of 9, staff are very accomodating to our needs, friendly atmosphere and the restaurant is very smart. Beef was exceptional and the vegetables were well cooked. I will definitely be returning soon!
S. B.
Really gorgeous pub, beautifully furnished, cosy, classy. Staff very friendly & attentive, cant fault. Food reasonable quality but not exceptional. Main negative is lack of any regular change of limited menu. Shame as would otherwise visit much more frequently

First time customer, service and food both excellent, lovely village pub with comfy bar area and restaurant..would highly recommend...

Fantastic pub, excellent decor, great food and service!

A absolutely fantastic place to dine at. From the food to the décor, this place has it all. The décor of this place sets the mood and the food really tops it off. There isn't one thing on the menu that you wouldn't have. The steak with the blue cheese sauce is stunning. The chef has a real eye for taste and combinations. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. The staff are great and welcoming. I wouldn't hesitate to go back at any time. It's easy to see why they are award winning. Definitely give this restaurant a go!!

The food was presented lovely and was cooked beautifully, absolutely stunning. Everyone of us enjoyed our visit and the staff are very attentive. Thank you so much.

Had a lovely meal to celebrate our 30th anniversary and share our celebration with a close friends birthday. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, made to feel very welcome, a very covid safe environment. Lovely bottle of champagne and great food.
Thanks to the chef and all the excellent staff.
We will be back soon.

Beautiful venue, great food and the service is amazing! One of the best Sunday roasts I've had.

A great restaurant with delicious food and very accommodating staff. There was a wonderful smell of wood smoke while we ate in a light and spacious restaurant highly recommended.

Went here for my birthday and sat in the bar because dogs not allowed in the dining room. BUT such a lovely experience, excellent service and good choice of dishes at very reasonable prices. Atmosphere brilliant and would definitely go there again!

Absolutely wonderful the best food we have had thank you The Griffin
C. M.
Firstly, the interior is really smart. The big extension out the back is light and really nicely decorated. The beer garden is really nice too.
We had Sunday lunch and it s outstanding. It's not your average Sunday lunch, extremely tasty and tender meat with equally delicious accompaniments.
Service was great... Basically, book in and enjoy!

This is an excellent pub. Great food and drink. Lovely environment - well designed and well maintained. The staff are clearly well-trained - they are efficient and friendly. Genuinely a great experience and well worth more than one visit!

Brilliant lunchtime pub. Staff are great

Visited the restaurant and had the best experience I think we’ve had in a long time! The service was friendly and efficient and social distancing/Covid measures put in place made us feel relaxed and safe. The food was impeccable & is the best meal out we’ve had. Excellent range of choices alongside value for money. Very talented chefs and lovely waiting staff. Thank you for such a brilliant experience. Can’t recommend The Griffin enough and will most certainly be returning.
B. A.
A great place for business meetings or dinner. Exceptional food! Great service.
A. B.
Posh food with little chance of hearing the other side of the table due to an absurdly loud and echoey dining room.
M. B.
Absolutely great dining experience. The new restaurant and Italian garden is beautiful and the whole ambiance of the place is wonderful. Everything cooked to order which was the best Thai Curry I've ever had. The service was nice. I will definitely be going back for some more of this.
A. P.
Food is of a high standard, but the description on the menu doesn't always do justice to the food that is delivered (in that the menu under sells it).
For the price a little more attention to detail in the composition of the dish would be warranted, but this is a minor quibble.
Beef lovers would find plenty of options but for those who don't eat beef, the choice is limited to something line 1 chicken, 1 fish, 1 pork dish. There are some vegetarian options, but the menu made them feel as very safe (maybe bland) options so were over looked.
Staff were attentive, proficient, and friendly.
A slightly varied menu with better descriptions, and a little more attention in the way the dish was made, would have seen this attain 5 stars.
K. S.
Really enjoyable evening in a lovely pub, food was delicious. Staff very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend!

Such a lovely and friendly place. The staff are lovely. The food is AMAZING.
J. P.
Quite pricey, one of my friends is gluten free and they did cater for this but put anchovies in her salad when she asked for them to be left off but did change it straight away. Thought the desserts were pricey and we had to wait a while for them. One was a creme brulé which was seven pounds and was about 3 mouthfuls.
S. W.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and a nice warm welcome, looking forward to going again.
A. P.
A pity they charge so much for soft drinks lime and lemonade £4.30 as its a lovely pub with good food.
Doesn't pay you not to drink
B. P.
Very nicely refurbished to a high standard with prices to match!
Large dining room and small snug which was a pleasant sunny spot for a light lunch.
Gluten free and coeliac diners will struggle as it appears not to cater for allergies though I'm happy to be corrected.
One disabled parking space, disabled access and loo.

Unexpected but exceptional experience
Many thanks to Claire in the kitchen this evening. We popped in for a drink and as I felt a bit peckish, asked if I could have a starter (pigeon, mint and pea risotto with pear,) as a snack.
I am an incredibly fussy eater but quite frankly, the dish was most definitely up to World Service/Hart’s standards - the pigeon was rare but seared perfectly on the outside, the risotto just cooked with the right amount of seasoning and the pear adding a light freshness to the whole dish. I did try to put a review on trip advisor but it did not seem to recognise the post code input, so I really do hope that this review reaches the public domain. I just want the chefs to get the recognition they deserve ...
Many thanks, Sue x

We visited the Griffin for the first time since it reopened. The refurbishment is very good, comfy seats and a lovely décor. The food was delicious despite there being no starters on the menu. We put that down to it being early days and no doubt a full menu will be rolled out. The chef is very talented, both courses were divine, minted lamb pie and Harkers ham followed by cheesecake and Eaton mess. Unfortunately the waiting staff don't seem to understand that it's the entire experience of visiting a restaurant, not just the food, that makes an evening an outstanding one. It really is the attention to detail that matters. I was surprised not to be offered water and not to have the wine glasses and menu cleared away (we didn't order wine). There was a long wait between ordering dessert and it arriving. We had to prompt the waitress. This was repeated with the bill despite staff clearing tables around us apparently oblivious to out desire to leave. Hopefully this will be resolved with training and a string leader as it would be a shame for a pub with such good food to fail because of service.

Very pleasant traditional environment post refurbishment, with a log fire . The lunch menu looked good, with severe vegetarian options for starters, snacks and main courses, plus a good choice of cask ales including a regular Blue Monkey Infiniti, very tasty all round. Will certainly go again
A. H.
Went at lunch time for a birthday meal, food was amazing, and the service spot on, would definitely recommend

Perfect place to eat
The large extension at the rear of the pub is an absolute delight..also gives a good option of eating outside...a well designed and thought out plan

My wife and I only popped in for a cup of coffee to kill time before a further appointment. We were made very welcome by the staff. We are moving into the area later this year and will definitely be visiting the premises covid permitting.

Pleasant pub with variety of fresh dishes available. Outdoor seating and dining. Village location

Now entering its fifth week since a major closure and rebuild, The (new) Griffin is very welcome, creating valuable jobs in a tiny village. The all-day pub menu has some excellent options. Our food was cooked and presented well. We had the complete cheese board between four of us. Each cheese was paired sympathetically with another sweet or savoury flavour. Looking forward to the introduction of the a la carte menu.
D. P.
