Good pub, we've been a few times to either get a drink before dinner or to watch the football / rugby. Downstairs is usually very busy. Had no idea they had upstairs seating

Ownership has recently changed hands, and the new owners clearly want to make a difference! Always onsite and wanting to chat and welcome everyone to the bar. A modern look and feel to the place too. The one downside is its a relatively small pub.

One of my 'go to' bars in Nottingham always has a choice of ale. A great place to people watch as on a busy corner near the city centre. There are a few big screens for football although the pub isn't that big. Still a good place

Only popped in on a lightning trip to Sidmouth, asked Google for the best pub and this one came up. Nice area outside overlooking the beach, inside was very pleasant with lots of music memorabilia on the walls, beers were well kept and locally sourced, barman was a pleasant chap and the pub is dog friendly, there is also a pool table at the back of the pub.

This place has changed a lot from the old turf tavern. It now feels more spacious, with a nice comfy booth too. Plenty of choice when it comes to craft ales. A great little place to while a way and watch the world go by

What a fantastic place! Lots of choice of craft beers as well as gin! Was pleasantly surprised that it's not ridiculously loud on Sat night so you can have a drink and a conversation! Definitely recommend it staff very helpful too.

With a lively atmosphere and reasonable prices, The Hop Merchant is a great place to sit back and people watch out of the windows which look out into Upper Parliament Street. For a medium sized pub, they have a nice selection is drinks, covering beer, wine, cider and spirits. My wife and I will usually pop if we are in the city centre.

Most of the seating areas are high chairs/stools. The decor is quite simple and modern. They have tv's on either wall to watch some live sports. Try have nice cask ales and imported beer in bottles.

A snug pub with wobbly seating but a great atmosphere and lovely bar staff. Mid-range drinks prices (3.50ish for a spirit and mixer on average) but good range of beers and spirits.

Location opposite Theatre Square means this is very popular and very accessible, consequently it gets extremely busy and service may take a while as the bar area itself is very small. 2 large TV screens assume a sporting interest in the clientele but I don't think they are both necessary is such a small pub so have marked down one star.

Cracking place just had 3 brewdog punk IPA and it's only 2pm. Been here a few times, one of the best real ale pubs in Notts.
