Reviews of The Horse & Groom

Haven't been here for years, however still a lovely pub, with extensive outdoor seating and function room. Loads of ales and spirits. Sat outside in the 🌞 enjoying a pint of Theakstones. Nice
G. C.
Always good food and drinks, friendly staff and never too busy
P. B.
Large outside area, reasonable prices, real chips! Very busy at the small bar Saturday lunchtime, but only to be expected on a sunny day. Christmas menu now available with straightforward 2 or 3 course options.

Love our local village pub and I’m sure many of us miss you! It’s not just a pub to many when in a village, it’s has a different social impact that I’m sure has affected many.
A welcoming place for the single old chap that may live on his own and pops by to have a little chat and a pint and maybe his dog. Many people pop in on their own as always feel welcome. I Warm and friendly atmosphere and lovely and cosy when the fire is burning.
The tier system that has no sense to me , having to eat and not just have a pint for that sweet old man is not getting him out the house to socialise with the only people he might see. It’s such a shame that a village pub has been scrutinised and classed the same as city bustling bar with young people partying.
From what I see and all places I’ve been to from bars to restaurant’s to hairdressers etc they have all been safe with the right measures taken into place throughout this Covid situation. It baffles me that a village pub is in their 3 yet a city pub in London in tier 2!!!!!! Unbelievable !!!!!!
Hope to return soon 🍺🍷🐶🐶👍🙏🏻

Lunchtime, food good sat outside in the sun, order and pay at the bar. Food order was incomplete (left the sourdough bread off the duck dish) had to go back to ask a member of staff about it, was brought out a couple of mins later.
J. F.
Nice staff good service , real ales ,I'm a Guinness person myself , it was good. Only i prefer a more open plan pub.
P. A.
Warm friendly welcome, including 3 well behaved dogs. Excellent food quality and price, all fresh ingredients cooked to perfection, should have taken the photo before I started. Can highly recommend this place
B. G.
Great pub, good selection of real ale most of the time and food food
D. V.
Nice pub, quaint, but food appeared to be microwaved and reminiscent of a school lunch - even then most of it wasn’t cooked properly through and was cold. Did not get the drink I ordered either. Staff are difficult to tell apart from customers and appear relatively unapproachable and not wanting to be there. Shame, as this has been the experience a few times now. Last Summer the service was great, sad to see it change so much since then.

Just popped in for something to eat for the first time. She had the scampi and I had the beef chilli. Both superb. All home cooked and very reasonably priced. Lovely landlady who was so accommodating and fun friendly staff. Oh, and we had a side of onion rings....honestly the best I've ever had. We'll definitely be going back.
C. F.
Lovely country pub, modern interior but not lost any character. Good selection of real ale.
C. M.
Visited last night around 8pm - very good beer. Opening times shown are wrong - they're open every day until 10pm but do close early ( around 9pm) if there are no customers in. FB has more accurate info I think.
d. h.
Disappointed. Very long wait for food once we had ordered. Goats cheese salad was light on goats cheese and heavy on lettuce. Maybe two cherry tomatoes in the whole dish and needed a microscope to find the Balsamic vinegar. The meat eaters in our party enjoyed their food. Olives, bread & oil were very nice.
D. P.
Great traditional styled country pub with good cask ales and quality pub food ,separate tea room attached good outdoor seating area .
R. W.
Good food at a very reasonable price.
Good selection of beers.
Pleasant staff.
D. C.
We arranged with the helpful staff a surprise party for my wife. With 24 very different diners the chef was able to cope with everyone from vegan to carnivore. All agreed the food was excellent.
J. T.
Lovely rustic pub, in a beautiful little village. Food was fresh, homemade and tasty. The young lady that waited on us was lovely. I would highly recommend this lovely little place. My husband stumbled upon it whilst out on a walk with our son. Our 2 meals and 3 drinks came to just over £30, so not expensive either. Thank you Horse and Groom for a lovely date night with my husband.
J. B.
Very comfortable, lovely decor, great area at the back for eating, drinking and separate play area and lawn for the younger ones. Food was great and plenty of it. We will be going back.
t. p.
We had just a drink in the garden. Nice area for children. Beautiful flowers around. Recommend!
M. K. E. G.
Food was lovely even if puppy did try and steal some 🤣 great top have somewhere where you can take your dog and still eat in a nice environment, really good home cooked food
E. K.
A lovely venue for my daughters baby shower. A good time was had by all.
F. R.
We had a family lunch at the Horse and Groom and everyone enjoyed their meals, having ordered an assortment from the Halloumi Burger to Eggs Benedict to Chorizo and Black Pudding Hash to Scampi and Chips. The onion rings were superb. The service was excellent from the young lass who served us.
J. G.
Went for a two course meal. Only complaint was the chip was like Bullets and over cooked.
S. T.
Very pleasant sitting outside but thought the menu not easy to read. Needs to be larger print
I. P. P.
Great food, great drink choices, relaxing environment
L. C.
First visit, across country to meet with old friends Really friendly atmosphere, not rushed or hassled. Long, lazy lunch; lots of choice, nice food. Def go again.
K. O.
Absolutely beautiful meal. Go weekly guaranteed great food
A. B.
Excellent food and drink in comfortable surroundings, loved it and will be going back again!
W. M.
Lovely village pub good beer and welcoming
A. H.
Quiet on the night I visited, plenty of food being served though, friendly bar man with a warm welcome for a couple of non locals. Would definitely go again 🙂
K. R.
Went in for a meal one Friday night had our dogs with us had booked a table day before and said we had 2 dogs
On entering we were shown our seats was in a sort of old extension was plenty of room so no problems only thing is was in January so was cold frosty night the place was really chilly not comfortable could have been heated better
Food was ok price was good
Will return but on a warmer night
M. B.
Great food. Great beer.Efficient staff. Dog friendly! Ticks all the boxes -for us anyway!
C. P.
Very nice food but did have an hour wait for food 😋
a. w.
Excellent food, excellent service even though was very busy! Staff were welcoming and served us as quickly as they could. Whole family friendly with a little play area for the children and welcoming of our dogs. Thanks for a great time! We will be back very soon.
J.
Nice pub, good prices. Food looked nice and homemade. Would rate 5 stars but people didn't seem to be sticking to Covid guidelines whilst walking around, staff didn't seem to enforce the guidelines. However staff were all wearing masks.
P. R.
Great coffee, great service.
Happy Peter 😊
E. J.
Sat outside for a lovely meal, although my lettuce hadn’t been washed properly. We will visit again.
V. B.
Had Sunday lunch, was not quite as I expected. Not much meat, gravy and not offered condiments or accompaniments (mustard or horseradish) could have done with a steak knife for the beef and whole dish could have been warmer. Staff not around to ask for missing items.
S. T.
We went for lunch to this pub we ordered mushrooms on toast and a plate of chips , the chips were disgusting soggy and soft , the mushrooms were about two mushrooms at most little bit of sauce on toast costing £7!!! Would not go back for food !!
X.
Nice place to stop for a drink on a ride , great food too .
P. n.
It was nice. The steak was cooked perfectly. The chips, nice and crispy. The plate looked a little bare though. Would have been nice to have served it with a couple of mushrooms and maybe a grilled half of tomato. Pepper sauce was nice. Reasonably priced.
N. L.
Good food in a very pleasant setting.
I. H.
Had many wonderful evenings at this pub. The service is excellent, the food is amazing, and everyone is super friendly and nice. 100% recommend for a lovely evening out :)
E. E.
Really like this pub friendly staff nice to sit outside and they still do table service which we like and have got use to during the covid period. Very dog friendly and a nice area for children to play
D. C.
Love this pub. Great for everything. Staff are top notch. Always busy. Food is good. Pub quiz every week and wonderful outside when the weather is fine. We even went for one on Christmas Day and the atmosphere was great. Definitely recommend
J. P.
food was great and the staff very professional and friendly
J. W.
A lovely little village pub that serves a good range of beers, real ales, wines etc. It is also well renowned for it's sumptuous food although I haven't tried anything off the menu yet. However, I will say the meals look plentiful and very delicious and so they should because I understand everything is prepared from scratch and is home-cooked! The pub is very popular with both the villagers and visitors from farther afield. It offers comfortable surroundings and a warm welcome too. The only thing that lets it down is the cost as it's not cheap for the food or the beer, but if you're just dropping in for a few hours I would say it is ideal.
C. H.
Good selection of pump beers and ales. Wide range of spirits. Friendly staff and a good ambience. A real 'village pub'.
S. S.
Lots of area to play with the kids, nice pub
P. D.
I had past this pub plenty of times and though I would try it. It had been refurbished and on face of it looks good place. Firstly we were presented with a tatty dirty menu and should of raised alarm bells.... But looking at the food on next table thought worth a try. Food was average we had fish and chips... Batter was crunchy but fish over cooked chips over cooked and soggy. Served by what could only be described as a hippy... Dogs allowed in this place which is generally not acceptable but we are in the country and they were well behaved and lovely looking creatures.... The pub hosts some good beers... Good local atmosphere and real fire.... So apart from a below average meal pub is OK.
G. S.
Excellent pub, well mannered and welcoming staff, very child friendly my children had fun on the play area, very clean and measures put into place for social distancing definitely recommend this pub as a safe family friendly environment x
g. n.
Never had a bad meal yet, service good, and don't keep you waiting half the night
H.
Just took kids for drinks and burgers absolutely spot on !!!
T.
Lovely pub and atmosphere the sunday dinner was great although I had the sausage and mash the wife had the dinner. Pudding was equally lovely chocolate cake and cream. Only downside was that service was very very slow however it was fairly busy.
D.
Great find. Friendly service. Well organised social distancing. Prices are better than I expected. Recommend the buffalo chicken burger with real fries. Will definitely be back.
S. L.
High recommended, love their home cooked Sunday lunches and real ale. A must visit if you in the area
Á. D.
Lovely pub, always clean and the food is really nice. In a great location.
W. P.
Fantastic place for beer and food, Sunday lunch is absolutely fantastic. Good selection of beers and real ales.
All the bar staff are very friendly, always loads of dogs in looking for a fuss. All round fantastic local pub.
K. F.
Food here is not your typical pub grubb everything tastes so much better than chain pub versions ... Made with love and great portion sizes ... Lovely selection of gins too.... Nice garden area and great decor! I am yet to try the tea room but definitely one of our favourite places locally.
A. P.
Nice place, reasonable selection of beers. Pub is in a pretty Notts village. However, I don't feel that they'd got their covid routines sorted. We stood in the doorway waiting to be seated as the sign said but nobody even looked to see if anyone was there. So we sort of crept inside until someone saw us and we told them we were sitting outside. That was fine, drinks ordered and drunk ok. We decided to go sit inside, same wait, creep inside waiting to be seen, and we were given the one table that didn't have a reserved sign on it. No-one seemed to turn up for the reserved tables until about 5 mins before we were about to leave one of the bar staff came and told us to move because the people for our table had turned up. I'd have probably made a fuss if we weren't about to leave and the folks who'd turned up were looking a bit sheepish about it so we just left. Also, nobody told us about track and trace, I found it accidentally while trying to sort the WiFi. Ok it's all a bit new but it needs sorting, not everyone is going to use WiFi.
T.
Young barstaff , working hard , but no atmosphere
I. A.
Friendly welcoming staff, good selection of real ale and premium lagers. Good bar meal menu with nice service, thank you.
C. R.
Food was good, very helpful and accommodating for allergies, and also allowed my sister's dog in.
S. w. a. a. r. G.
We love to visit this pub especially in the summer when the sun it out. The beer garden here is great, there is a play area for the kids to run around in and meet other kids too, it is one of the only places around hucknall now that has a kids play area. The food is nice and there is a good selection of drunks and crisps. When the weather is warm it can get really busy, even so, the staff are always friendly and the service is still within a reasonable time. They sometimes have car shows on the field and the kids enjoyed looking at all the different cars. In the colder months they have real fires which make is cosy and a nice place to relax.
J. H.
A catch up with a friend, the food was good, I had chilli and my friend had sausage and mash, I tried the mash and it was delicous. Good friendly service. We normally visit here with our dog because they welcome dogs but she didn't come that night. Thank you to the team for a welcoming pub
T. W.

Decent pub.
L. H.
Best Sundays lunch ever.
K. R.
Seems improved in recent years, with a reasonable range of food, ok beers (albeit limited range), but in a nice location. Have visited a few times recently and would definitely visit again. Can be busy at times. Good sized car park at back, small one at front.
P. L.
Had the most amazing Sunday lunch excellent service, brought family for a birthday treat, they also had a fabulous time, well worth a visit3
C. B.
Lovely pub known for its superb food. Just called in for one on a very hot day and sat outside. Must be worth more than 3 stars but we only sat outside. We will go back again . Nice pub.
H. B.
Lovely food, great service and friendly staff.
A. F.
Good food, friendly staff and a very nice atmosphere. Will be coming back.
The Sunday roast was excellent especially the Yorkshire pudding as I am Anne from Yorkshire and was just came visiting my mother in law on her birthday
M. A.
Poor selection of real ales for a country pub. Food is average and over priced in my opinion. Some staff are really hopeful and friendly although some other staff are not. Glasses are always left on tables and never cleared.
R. S.
Good country pub. Busy on new years day. Long wait for food after our order was placed. Moroccan tagine and chilli excellent. Burgers good too. Simplest thing to cook was bad though. Ciabatta toasted way too much on one side.
D. F.
Really enjoy going here. Stag are really lovely and the landlord great. Usually go after mountain biking for a refreshing drink.
R. W.
Wheelchair accessible via ramp through archway. Staff always friendly and helpful. Plenty of choice on menu including vegetarian options & "sloppy joe" vegan burger. Been back five times.
T. P.
Nice pub loverly grub.set in a lovely village.staff very polite.
A. G.
Thankfully it was a warm day when i went there. As you have to sit outside , Which i can understand . For was a good size for price. They need more staff . As it was very busy.
C. C.
Fabulous. Never been bwfore but drove past often. There is the maon pub ib the back and then a small room at the rear called thw tea room. The tea room searves the same menu as thw main pub but this area is bettee if you havw younf children/pushchairs bexause of the space, though its not as nicely decorated as the pub itself. Food was lovely and lots of choices. Im not a vegetarian but i always look at the veggie options as rhere was more available for this pub than ive seen for most others. Definately recommend!
D. E.
Good food/beer and great friendly service
J. S.
No Guinness or similar, Currently not alot of stock. Usually fine. Just need to get going again.
T. B.
Cosy country pub with a fire on colder days. Nicely decorated interior, good atmosphere. Plenty of outdoor seating. Beer a little pricey.
D. M.
