We performed here as part of the Nottinham Improvised Comedy Smash night! Intimate venue with lovely atmosphere. Great pizzas to fuel us through our set!

The Playwright, formerly known as the Orange Tree near Trent University. I reckon it is more of a place where University staff and students go - due to its vicinity to campus. The interior is very much what you would imagine if you heard the words "English pub". The place is dog friendly and offers a good range of drinks and food and it is quite decent food at that too. I loved my Harissa Halloumi Kebab, it was delicious. The next time I go, I will try the quesadilla.

Nice atmosphere, and some nice staff. Have been in for a Sunday roast twice now. The first time was decent for the price and we got all that you would expect. This time 3/4 of us were missing carrots, and all our other veg was very undercooked. Extremely crunchy broccoli and peas (didn't think peas were that hard to cook) Overall a nice place, although it is a bit on the expensive side

The name of this place changes but the quality doesn’t. Been coming here for twenty years and it’s always a solid pub with a good atmosphere. And now they do amazing pizza. Their dough is legit!

Was there for a celebration of the life of Chris Richardson. 100 people and only 3 staff how did they do it? Delicious pizza including vegan which was especially good. Welcoming and staff so friendly. Loads of room too

Lovely pub close to NTU City Campus. Enjoy their 2 for 1 pizza deal. The pizzas are delicious and they do a yummy vegan margherita one too which I think is even better than the vegetarian one. Can be quite loud when busy, even if you're in a different room with the door closed.

Lovely place. Very good price for the area. Food tastes really good. The pizza is fantastic (they have a pizza oven). Their pub quiz was so fun, I wish it was a little moreonitored as there was a lot of people cheating, and refusing to swap papers when it came to marking. But over all a good time!

Visited NYE. Pleasantly surprised with the funky decor, friendly staff, oven baked fresh pizza, prices for drinks and food excellent. Great mid week deals on food and drink. Staff are lovely and it has a nice atmosphere, I can't recommend it though because the food was just ok and none of the toilet seats were attached to the toilets, plus (I assume just in the ladies) you are practically sitting on the sanitary bins when you are on the loo.

Very relaxing & great food choice, centrally located near the town,Victoria Centre & Trent Uni. The vibe is great, spaced out, comfy seating...the music is chilled and there are open mic nights etc here. A fabulous haunt for the people who don't want an overly packed bar.

First visit since the Wells takeover. Have called in here many times in the past but not so much lately. Pleased to see the place has had a bit of a clean up but not been too much of a makeover. Great selection of beer compared to last time I was in there but still room for improvement. Where was the Bombardier ? Enjoyed the beer I had and felt comfortable in there. It's a place with great ambience, perfect to relax with your friends. Very good selection of beers and drinks. They even have my favourite: a wheat beer, which is hard to get in most English pubs. Food isn't half bad either. One drawback is it's not the cheapest place to drink.

Ate pizza here today 24/2/20, with a friend, seeing as it was 2 for 1 Monday! Having lived in Italy for several years, I can say with real conviction, that the Italians themselves would've been hard pushed to bake a better Pizza and, our Pizza's were better than many I have eaten over there! Absolutely fantastic, and will be recommending, and it goes without saying....we will be back!

A group of 10 of us were having a day out in Nottingham and we had a great meal here. The service was brilliant. The food hot & delicious. Prices are very reasonable for big portions. We were not rushed out after we had finished our meal either. Would definitely recommend a visit.

An odd venue. The Orange Tree is part of a small chain of East Midlands pubs, and the Nottingham venue is nicely retrodecorated. The venue's tables are mostly huge; if you're going as a couple or foursome then you drown in table space, or end up sharing with other people. Not always nice. This is in the heart of student accommodation, so the crowd can be young and noisy. The food is good and the lunch deals are really good value for money. Drinks are generally nudging the pricey side, though there are offers on the cocktails which will appeal to some (the Black Forest cocktail is divine). Ale selection is poor, overpriced and served freezing cold. Staff are generally personable but the quality isn't what it was several years ago when the venue really was much superior and would have scored much higher. Veggie/vegan selection is good. This is a pleasant venue, really centrally located and lovely on a weekday afternoon or as a place to recharge on a weekend afternoon. Weekday evenings can be pleasantly quiet though the weekends tend to be loud, crowded and not especially pleasant.

Cosy and stylish, great for a casual drink with a relatively busy atmosphere. Nice selection of lagers, local ales and regular craft beers including their own Orange Tree lager. Have not yet tried the cocktails or food, but seems they have an extensive and varied menu for both.

Love the orange tree. Spent many an afternoon in there revising whilst at uni. Food and drinks are great, friendly service. Very good cocktails. Make use of the 241 cocktails on Sunday and tuesday. As well as 50% of foods on Tuesdays. The quiz is also great.

Chose here for a society Christmas meal. It was pretty easy to organise with them but they required quite a large deposit of £10 per person when we booked. Inside it's really nice and the food was well prepared. They had a wide variety of cocktails which were 241 at certain times which made them more affordable.

Revamped to a degree but manly the same layout, new pizza oven and Victorian style. The new owners seem to have just moved a London brand into Nottingham. Been open now for some months and is consistently OK but quiet, maybe because no students at the moment but it stands out as being expensive for them. Jury still out really.

Formally known as The Orange Tree I met with a friend that we both thought it was going to be packed due to student location and from when we went as students but it was a perfect atmosphere inside without the need to shout at each other to have a conversation which is always a bonus 😃. Staff collecting glasses were super friendly and will be going again. Only reason for loss of one star is my friend mentioned that the women's toilets needed a lot of work.

A nice enough bar and eatery, slightly odd layout. But the bar service can be very slow. I think it's due to the cocktail menu, frequently there are only 2 bar staff making lengthy cocktails and the rest of the bar are waiting to be served for just basic drinks. I've walked out due to waiting too long to be served. Simplify the cocktails / pre make / separate cocktail bar, I don't know but something needs to change.

I often go here. Can be very busy at weekends, but it's a nice pub with good staff; service can be slow at times, but always polite. Fair sized place but not at all intimidating. A small food range, and a side range of cocktails, a cask ale, some Belgian beers, etc.

Nottingham's orange tree is quite a pleasant place, you know your are in a branch of the orange tree but each has its own atmosphere. Though it can be a little gloomy it has room reservations which are perfect for groups, the staff are helpful and the food is great (they make a mean fish finger sandwich)

If you remember The Orange Tree, then The Playwright will come as no surprise. Standing on the exact same spot as the aforementioned place, it is remarkably similar inside. Granted, there is now a piano, and that raggedy old furniture has been replaced with slightly newer, the overall ambience is little changed, save for the slate-grey paintjob.

Wasn't very impressed with the Sunday dinner. Roast potatoes tasted like they were kept warm for a while and hard to cut in to, gravy was a little tomatoey? Personal preference, but, I don't like mini corn (like the one you get in stir-fry) on a roast dinner haha sweetcorn all the way!

Student-dominated pub on corner of Shakespeare St. and Nth Sherwood St. formerly called "Russell's". Quite large with round tables, spreading out space, sofa area, curtainable back section and back yard. Couple of real ales, more craft and continental beers, cheap cocktails and most other drinks. Food is average. There's a central area hosting board games, and they host a quiz two Sunday eves a month (at least in term-time). And no they can't turn the music down apparently.
