Went out for a meal and my first visit. Ample free parking and a great garden to sit in with lots of space and play area for kids. Sun was out all evening which was nice. Visited on a Tuesday steak night which was great value. I had a mixed grill and prawns to start. Service and food were excellent. Definitely worth a trip out for food or a drink in the sunshine.

First time visited for a long time, took the hubby for Sunday dinner and wasnt disappointed. Lovely food, big amounts to was totally full. Won't be leaving it as long before we go again. Staff were very friendly, police and helpful.

Fantastic Sunday roast. Good selection of veg, sides of cauliflower cheese and sausage. Beautifully cooked and plentiful. Service was brilliant. All this with 2 rounds of drinks, 3 deserts and all under £110.00 for 4 people. Great value for the quality.

Friday lunch time visit, we were served by very polite and friendly staff. The food was an absolute joy. The dauphinois potato, although a side dish, was the star of the plate for me. We're going to book in for steak night now, judging by the quality of the food and cooking I feel pretty sure they can make a good job of a fillet steak. Excellent lunch, loved it 👏

We were in the area for one night celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary, we had been recommended the shepherd's rest so we booked a table, service was great, food was Outstanding and a real nice atmosphere, while chatting to our waitress whilst we were paying our bill we mentioned that it was our anniversary, before we knew it a waiter bought over 2 champagne flutes and 2 free mini bottles of fizz to say happy anniversary. Really lovely thought. Great team and all the best for the future.

Lovely beer garden to the front of the pub, that gets evening sun. A good selection of drinks. Not had food there yet but what we saw of other people's looked very nice.

Nice freshly cooked food in a friendly atmosphere. A little old fashioned but has charm at the same time. Prices reasonable for fresh food. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Has outdoor seating which is nice in the summer. The toilets could do with some renovation.

Last Monday Bank - Holiday ( 31st of May ) Myself and some of my family & friends came along to the “Shepherds Rest “‘ as we heard so many great things about this wonderful 17th Century building / Public house / Restaurant It was a beautiful sunny afternoon / evening Our table was booked for 1600hrs As we entered the grounds we were welcomed by a young waitress who quite kindly said that there was a table spare in the garden if we would like to have a drink and study the menu as we waited for our meal and also kindly said ( even though the weather was Amazing ) If it’s too warm out here, you can have a table inside where it’s nice and cool. I absolutely love good customer service. This was Absolutely amazing customer service!! Whilst we were enjoying our cool drinks and the outside ambiance of the Shepherds Rest ... we collectively couldn’t get over just how good the background music was , by a wonderful young man who was receiving applause every now and then ... by playing guitar and singing live which was so nice on such a tranquil evening... Anyway!! I digress ! If anyone, absolutely anyone reading this ..... is thinking about going to the Shepherds- Rest, Then do your self a massive favour ... and GO! With your date? With your Family ! With your Friends!! You will not be disappointed ( seriously) Absolutely fantastic food !! ( I had the Lamb Shank ) Melt in the mouth HEAVEN ! With a glass or two of ‘Soldiers Block’ SHIRAZ which actually , when I enquired was recommended by the beautiful Mia, Front of house ? Assistant manager ? Head waitress? She was ( like the rest of the wonderful staff at the Shepherds Rest ) Absolutely Amazing!! Three of our company had the equally delicious Garlic Chicken....... ( Foodie Heaven ) ❤️❤️ Congratulations to the Chef ‘ by the way !!! My wife and myself can’t wait to come back up to Nottinghamshire, as we live in Norfolk But We can definitely say that the Shepherds Rest will be No 1 on our list of places to go and enjoy a damn fine meal with fantastic service ThankYou So Much !!! Overall, a very mediocre pub. Several food options were unavailable. One of the mains was clearly frozen and reheated as it was still cold in the middle. Had a pudding which was very dry. On the plus side, it’s a nice location and they allow dogs.

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Staff are friendly and polite. Good outdoor space for kids to play. Good menu with a variety to suit most people and reasonably priced. We went for the first time today and turned up just after a large party of 30 or so people. We did have a really long wait for food (about 1hr), but I was impressed with the quality and presentation of our meals when the kitchen was so busy. We will definitely be back, hopefully when it's a little quieter!

Went for Sunday carvery, my family's meals all looked fab, and although I don't eat any meat or dairy, the staff listened to what I wanted and came out with some lovely veggies cooked without butter and some veggie gravy. Might be nice to see some nut roast or something similar on the Sunday menu but I can't imagine demand for it is very high at the moment! It's a lovely cosy pub and I hope I can be back soon :)

This pub is fantastic in the sun to sit out and drink, I always find the staff very friendly and welcoming always going out the way to please. For example we recently went in and asked for a bowl of olives, although it's not on the menu they still provided this. The food has always been to a high standard and the locals are friendly. It's a great place for kids and dogs all year round.

We got there as the pub opened and there were beer stains on the tables, the brass bar was filthy and hadn’t had a polish in a while and there was food on the floor in the restaurant clearly from the day/days before!

Took my mum here for her birthday. Lovely country pub, fantastic staff and good food. We had a great time and staff presented my mum with a sticky toffee pudding for us all to share after we said we couldn't manage a pudding each. Nice gardens, kids play area, good range of beers and soft drinks.

Great food Friendly staff. We tried the Shepherds Rest following a recommendation on Facebook from Barlows Butchers. Lower Bagthorpe is a little out of the way. But the trip was well worth it. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who showed us to our table. The pub was clean warm and welcoming drinks were ordered and promptly brought to our table. The food order was placed and the wait for the meal was very reasonable. Our food was well presented and hot. I had Filet steak it was amazing cooked to perfection. The Onion Rings were fantastic. Portion sizes were generous. The staff were very attentive checking that the food was ok and if we needed more drinks. The deserts were scrumptious. I had sticky toffee pudding and custard it was to die for. All in all we had a great night and it was good value for money too. My filet steak served with skin on chips mushroom tomato and salad was under £20. We didn't feel rushed to leave. I would strongly recommend the Shepherds Rest it was well worth the trip. And we will be going back soon.
