Reviews of Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem

Always love visiting Ye Olde Trip! A fantastic place to rest for a while with a good pint, especially when the weather is nice. My friend and I spent most of the afternoon there in the garden bit, outside and decided this time to sit upstairs where the haunted Galleon rests silently in its box... what an area! If you get the chance to have a sit up there, it's definitely worth it! So much history in this place. We'd never had food here before, but will certainly be ordering again. Got the fish, chips and crushed peas which was fantastic! Fish was cooked really well, the chips were great as were the peas. I mean you can't get any better, than somewhere so full of history and character as this place. If you get the chance to stop off anytime, it's definitely worth it! And during the week it's even quieter, so a bonus! 👍🏻

It is a very interesting place, I am glad we have been told to see The oldest pub in England 😃❗
Unique interior , nice sitting outside as well and quite satisfying food.
The staff was very friendly. We are very happy that we have been there and would definitely recommend you to try Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem ❗

It was very nice. The pub is so authentic and well organized with the seating. It is quite spacious even though it fees a bit crammed walking around once you sit it feels spacious and nice. We had fries and onion rings they were pretty delicious as well and the menu has a huge selection of everything (vegan, gluten free etc.) the beer was also amazing. Overall, loved the place and the vibes.

Very fascinating and historical pub. Place seems to be very popular. Was good that I reserved a table even I was solo. Food was also good.

It is dubbed as England's oldest inn and host a small yet pique public bar beneath the cliff on which Nottingham's historic castle stands. As the name of the public bar tells us, it claims to be a well-known water hole for the crusaders leaving Nottingham to the middle east, at least during the 12th up to the 14th century. The inn itself traces its establishment to the year 1189. Currently, the public bar is still operating. It would be relaxing to sip a well-casked ale or downing a good shot of whiskey. The ambience and experience are just right, if you are in it too. You may enjoy the interior of the public bar, and even meet the house-ghost.

One of a kind? Rooms carved out of the cliff. Greene King pub so you know what you ate getting in terms of food & beer. But the building itself is amazing. I'm guessing it's far from the oldest pub in England though!!
A. D.
One of the best pubs/eating places I've ever been to- a place for tourists and locals alike. Good prices too. Unmissable.
R. B.
Nice beer and great food. Steak and kidney pudding with superb triple cooked chips. Nice to see bed dripping still in use here 😁 Must book table in advance as very popular.
G. W. D.
No visit to Nottingham is complete until you visit this great pub just down from the Castle.
Step back in time and enjoy a drink.
But don't do any dusting as will spoil the ambience 😃
Review helpful like 👍 follow thanks.

The UK's oldest inn has a lot to offer, set into the caves with the castle just above it in the background, its just a picturesque place to sit outside and chat, wine and dine with friends/family all year round. The food, the many rooms inside and the friendly staff just add to its quirky appeal. Recommend a visit here!
E. E. A.
Historical pub with a friendly atmosphere. Good selection of drinks. The food was good as well. Worth a visit after you see Robin Hood’s statue around the corner.
P. A.
The oldest inn in England. Sounds great. Located near Nottingham Castle and partly in caves. Must to visit place. This time we decided for Spanish lager. Good choice
J. W.
I love old interesting pubs. British heritage and history with beer, pie and chips added on. What's not to like? A fantastic old place, great food, great ale.
T. P.
Magical! All tourists in Nottingham should visit England's oldest pub carved into the rock beneath the Castle.
G. A.
Steak and ale pie, out of this world. The chips have never been triple fried I'm afraid. Great pub, friendly staff and very unique surroundings.
A. S.
Went here for our best friends 60th birthday, what can I say this pub is amazing, and staff were very helpful the pub was rammed and the food was ok
D. C.
THE oldest pub in the land, and it's right here in Nottingham! Great choice of drinks, including hard-to-find Old Rosie's cider. Excellent food and service, as usual, in one of the greatest and most unique pubs in the city. And it's in a cave! Underneath Nottingham Castle! My American friends were suitably impressed :)
Watch out for 'reservation' signs on tables, instead of standing them up so they can be spotted very easily, they hide them underneath menu's, so you don't know the table is reserved until you've been sat for a while and decide to see what is on the menu...

Love the aesthetics of the interior. The pub has retained the historical feel while providing a comfortable place for you to sit down and have a drink or two.
Initially I was expecting the prices of beverages to be higher than other venues seeing that this is a historical site but I was surprised to find that it was similar, if not, cheaper than other places that I've been to.
If you're a fan of history and architecture then I highly recommend putting this place on your bucket-list.

One of the oldest pubs in the world! A lovely cosy and have a nice group seating. Free wifi and friendly fast staff. I like this pub a lot.
P. T.
I visit Nottingham on the train occasionally and found this pub on viewing the castle and called in.
I was taken back how strange the inside of this is, dark and certainly interesting.
I had no idea of the history of this pub until I read about it inside the pub and was dumbfounded to what i read.
The pub looked bigger from the outside than in but maybe I missed some rooms.
I sat where the ship is in the glass case on the top and after reading about the pub I went to the little snug part.
The beer was great and the lunch very nice and would certainly visit here again when I'm back in Nottingham
S. L.
Great place in town. Really busy bustling feel. Great food choice reasonably priced and good portions

Great meal and friendly staff in such an interesting and historic place. My 93 year old dad and I had a delicious meal sat outside enjoying the sunshine while we ate and watched the world go by. Very enjoyable and relaxing. He hasn't stopped talking about it since😁 We'll definitely be back. Thank you x
R.
Really characteristic and nice pub carved inside the cliff. Good food, especially the pies.
r. c.
Worth a visit if you're in Nottingham. Very friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Lots of different beers and the building is really cool!
C. P.
Full of history gorgeous pub and resturant. Staff are very friendly and food is fab especially the pies 🥧

where do I start?
the oldest pub in England? Well you can tell! a well established pub with an incredible atmosphere, a great selection of beers, drinks and lovely food. every time I go to Nottingham I will visit this place. I can only assume the years gone by have marinated the atmosphere like a fine wine as it is as if I can feel the many happy moments that have been had 'tween these walls and below these beautiful beams. the many moments that have been had and are to come. I hope this continues for many centuries to come
R. D.
So any visit to the trip and what a difference. Far better experience then last time the beer was amazing and a very good selection. The lights were on and you could see everything on the walls.
If you want an experience come here
M. R.
Loved my experience at the Jerusalem the food was amazing and so were the drinks. Though the pints were a bit spenny we still got drunk and had a great time!!
R. C.
The experience at the oldest Pub in England is best had seated indoors as that makes you savour the experience fully. Indoor dining opened after our visit.
Range of beers & ales is quite small while food is just average. The sandwich ordered wasn’t worth putting up as it was below par..quite disappointed by the F&B range & quality..
M. F.
Great food, excellent staff and great choice of real ales
A. B.
What can I say about this place that's probably not already been said?
The oldest pub in England steeped in history, and don't do anything to the ship in the bottle!
One slight downside was the wait to get served at the bar. The two staff were not exactly fast, so a huge queue was always present.
E. T.
Beautiful old pub. Just be aware If your seated on the second floor and your sat under the dug out tunnel above you, you will get bits of sand stone falling into your dinner 😆.
Food was lovely and fresh and she staff were very helpful.
Beautiful atmosphere in the whole building with a lot of interesting facts about its history.
P. M.
A very interesting place with some lovely staff. Good beers and impressive fish dinners. Minor point, but can't help feeling though it would benefit from a full ventilation regularly to bring in some fresh air.
H. L.
Great feeling of having a meal in a super modern, old style building. Good food, coal heating, extremely enjoyable vibes.
J. F.
Glad we found. As two of us struggle walking especially up hill we nearly gave up so it was lucky hubby went ahead as it was tucked away from view. Nice ale on. Great staff and also had a good meal. I had lasagne and others had the pie. Recommended.
E. M.
Great heritage site, doesn't hurt that you can have a drink there too! Busy and sometimes unable to sit inside but wrap up warm and the outside is just as nice with views of the castle
M. a.
Exeptional oldest pub in England actually hewn out of rock Nottingham Castle built on not changed in years still as I remember it 30 years ago my partner and myself had a lovely evening after a visit to the theatre Royal not far from our hotel too, lovely atmosphere quirky and atmospheric place wonderful young staff who know how to look after people
N. S.
Very quirky pub built into the caves of Nottingham Castle. It has a lot of quirky objects like a chair which causes people to be come pregnant, a cursed gallon where people who tried cleaning it died, and a suite of armour. Food and drink has usually been to a really good standard but went on the 25th March 2022 and had a two steak and Ale pies which were not great with little meat inside and hard pastry. Hopefully a one off experience and certainly not what we have experienced previously when eating there.
T. P.
Although now owned by pub chain Greene King, this is an amazing unique pub to visit. Unmissable if you're in Nottingham. Not sure about the food but definitely worth having a beer or coffee and having a look around.
M. L.
The oldest pub on England (or is what they say 😉)!!! It is an amazing place to eat and stay for a bit. Inside is full of history, you cannot miss it! 😍
S. G.
Interesting pub, lots of history. Good selection of beer. Staff were fantastic and really looked after us. Food was spot on.
P. S.
Great surroundings and amazing cave building. Good beer too!
L. T.
Brilliant service. Staff are friendly ,food was delicious and was served quickly.
The place looks amazing, clean and tidy.
I went there with my 2 young children and we had lovely time . We will definitely visit again.
I. &. B. A.
A definite must see. This ancient quirky pub has bags of character! It is quaintly small so booking is advisable.
D. R.
You can't not come here if you're visiting Nottingham, reputed to be the oldest pub in the UK dating from 1189 once you take a look inside it is entirely possible
Most of the rooms inside are hewn out of the sandstone rock, little rooms and nooks, fascinating snippets of history everywhere
Download the app it's so easy and the seating outside was just perfect on a very hot day
S. B.
Loads of history, amazing place, food was spot on and so many great beers on offer.
Staff are spot on. Sit where crusaders have sat before.
P. B.
Historical pub. That's it. That's the review.
Apologies for the brevity of the above review...I'd had some Neck Oil and Monkey Shoulder whisky from your fine establishment. I'd like to add that this is an absolute gem of a pub, great range of drinks together with the olde worlde feel to every unique room. 5 🌟
C. D.
I visited for the history. A great old pub built into the cliffs of Nottingham Castle. Was pleasantly surprised to also find it was a very good pub with good food. Highly recommend.
K. P.
This was an amazing pub that absolutely lived up to the expectations of me and my friend, living up to how long it has existed with cave walls and sculptures! The seating is comfortable and the staff were very nice, who had a variety of drinks both old and new available at the bar. I enjoyed a mixture of both and the table was adequately sized, while it had cleanliness maintained too.
P. T.
Great pub, reported to be the oldest in England. Very comfortable atmosphere, with good food and drinks available. Bit confusing to navigate from room to room., but I a way that adds to its charm
M. A.
This place is an amazing trip back in time with great cask beer and friendly staff
K. K.
Looks amazing, nice place to sit even that the beers is the same like all the Greene King pubs
D. G.
Food was good staff friendly and efficient prices ok. Great atmosphere
D. T.
Lives up to what you'd hope from the oldest Inn in England. House pint of Olde Trip was amazing and staff were friendly and warm. Location is stunning and can't wait to go back
S. B.
A big tourist hotspot and a pretty major attraction. It really is quite superb and one of the best pubs in the city. It does get rather busy, so if you are wanting a quiet pint then look somewhere else. Although, even that shouldn't put you off popping in. Absolutely five stars!
P. d. W.
The oldest pub in the world, and full of charm. A bit of a tourist trap, but understandably so. Fantastic atmosphere, and lots of historical interest, including Ths Ship.
a. m.
Honestly could not fault this place from food to service was amazing.
Well done to all the staff on shift and names I didn't catch you all did a great job xx
L. C.
Traditional, cosy pub with friendly staff. Only had a quick drink here but saw they did meals. Dog friendly, has baby changing facilities
R. H.
Extremely rude customer handled very well by great bar staff.
Great choice of drinks in a equally great proper English pub.
Highly recommended.
G. U.
A beautiful, very old pub, a great atmosphere, cosy too with lots of little rooms to explore. It's very popular so best to book a table if you want to eat there.
J. G.
Go for drinks and the atmosphere if you want but don't bother with the food. Especially avoid this place on very busy days like sunny bank holiday weekends as there's a notable drop in service quality and speed when they're busy.
f.
Oldest pub in England, so yea go.
A. D.
What a great place, apart from the historic value here, the beer and service were excellent. I would highly recommend a visit here not only for the history but the refreshments too.
E. N.
Wonderful old public house bursting with historical facts.the food is lovely always serve with a beautiful smile the whole staff 👍😁 Go out their way to help toilets are kept clean and tidy you will injoy your lunch break here all when you're in the city centre Nottingham 👍😁👌.
B. C.
Absolutely stunning pub! Wonderful beer, great selection too. Wonderful and beautiful bar staff. Extraordinarily unique. Deep in history and wonder. Would highly recommend to anyone and everyone. Also try the bar game of getting the hoop on the horn!!! Hours of pleasure in a most uplifting atmosphere!!!!
Big thanks to kiwi and all of the wonderful staff here for making us feel very welcome.
K. G.
Wonderful food! Great historic atmosphere!
S. A. R.
Now this is somewhere I would visit twice. The food is amazing the drinks are affordable and my goodness the plain history behind the pub is amazing. It gives you a very olden day kind of feel. Such a lovely place indeed.
A. H.
Lovely old pub built into the wall that surrounds the castle. It looks small when you first walk in but there’s several room further round. The pub was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The pub looks quite dark but the atmosphere was very good. They had lots of beers to choose from which were very nice. A definite bar to visit.
P. W.
Ancient 800 year old inn that manages to retain the casual friendly charm of a local pub while also being a tourist destination. Better than average pub food and contemporary craft gins and beers.
B. R.
Famous, historical and very characterful pub. Popular with tourists and - it seems - more than a few locals too. Decent food and a reasonable selection of ales. Friendly and obliging staff, plus doggy friendly!
M. R.
One of the oldest pubs in England, built into caves. Good range of ales, food, wine and even a gin bar in the courtyard in Summer. A proper old fashioned boozer with a couple of modern quirks. Well worth visiting.
G. M.
Have wanted to visit this place for years and it didn't disappoint. Very atmospheric, great food and drink and friendly staff.
P. L.
Very quaint. Great little warren of different rooms and snugs. Large outdoor area. Good beers and good food. Very reasonable prices. Wife and I ate well for under £20. Very nice ale. Really good for a popular tourist location.
B. C.
It was pretty great. Very old pub, great fish and chips, great beer, cool setup, built into the rock under Nottingham castle. They claim it is the oldest pub in the UK and that King Richard stopped there for a pint before heading off into the Crusades (which is where it gets its name from). All kinds of cool decorations and nooks and crannies in which to sit and enjoy your lunch (or dinner) and have a pint or two (or as many as you want).
D. S.
Great cosy place, very unique and has a great history to learn. I didn't order food here but from what I could see and smell, everything looked amazing. A nice selection of real ales, beers and wines with a great menu to choose from. Expect to spend a little extra here due to the location but worth every penny.
J. S.
So cool! Almost a millennia old! Good food and beer too. They even have ghost tours. Make sure you explore the whole place when you visit. The stone walls are original!
L. J.
Absolutely fabulous pub, do stop for a drink / food (lots of people just came in to look around, don't blame them it's amazing). Lots of great nooks and crannies to get cozy in, stayed longer than we'd planned just to soak up the atmosphere. Lovely friendly staff and enjoyed having one of their "gin of the week" options. Would love to come back and go on a cellar tour.
b. g.
Amazing pub built in to the side of a cliff under Nottingham castle. Shame it's Greene King but beggars can't be choosers. They do serve some nice local ales though which is great.
F. F.
Super friendly staff. Amazing dining environment - you get to dine in a dark cave. It is perfect for a romantic date, or those who love dining in historic places.
L. F.
Loved this wonderful historic place for an evening drink. On entry it was busy, yet the barman still had time to speak with us and recommended the mulled wine to me which was delicious.
The place is full of interest as you walk through.
We sat in the 'beer garden' which even on a cold night was cosy.
When we were leaving we saw two of the staff helping a lady who was a little worse for wear. They were very caring with her and I cannot fault anything about this place.
Highly recommended.
T. C.
Would be a four or five star as a tourist destination and if visiting Nottingham for the first time its a must see on the circuit around castle rock. For me though its an average green king pub with average but well kept ales. Nothing exciting.
S. S.
Excellent little bar. Great selection of food and beers on tap. Friendly staff. And oh ya, it's built into the side of a hill. Super cool. Definitely a place to check out.
K. S.
It's a wonderful old pub and inn in the rock beneath the Nottingham Castle said to be from AD1189. Make you feel back in time with an attractive firelplace. They offer Cellar tours for anyone interested..
E. K.
One of Nottingham’s oldest pubs, a warren of tiny rooms and a beer garden at the rear. Drinks average priced for Nottingham but food a let down, not excellent for the price but eatable. I have had better and cheaper food at another pub run by the same chain. Due to its quirky layout, small rooms and tourist attraction appeal it can get busy and crowded.
P. R.
Great pub and great setting for a pint. But unfortunately the food was not great. I had bangers and mash and the sausages were dry. My gf had the pie which was ok. I would reccomend to visit for a drink , but not for food!
M. R.
Great pub to take visitors to. Lots of charm, good drinks on tap and decent food. Also in close proximity to other decent pubs. One not to miss if coming to Nottingham.
K. H.
We visited this pub because of the Robin Hood ledgends and because it's one of the oldest pubs in England. We enjoyed seeing the cursed gallion and the haunted snug. Some of the rooms are carved into the sandstone under the castle and it has a fantastic atmosphere. I felt like I'd stepped back in time to the crusades. I enjoyed a couple of pints of carling and a fish and chip platter for two that was excellent. The food and drink is of top quality and nicely presented. The staff were very friendly and told us stories of ghosts down in the cellars. When I first arrived I sat in the front room and after a few minutes the hairs stood up on the back of my neck and although I didn't see anything I had an overwhelming feeling that there was an old man sat in the corner smiling at me. During this time my partner was filming me and we caught a few "orbs" on the camera. I later learned that one of the ghosts is a man called Yorky who used to own the pub. I like to believe he'd come to welcome us in! Worth a visit if you like Ghosts, good food or a nice pint, also the clock in the rock room felt a bit odd! Don't forget to sit in the antique chair if you want some luck getting pregnant too, apparently it has special powers.
M. A.
Astonishing experience! Extraordinary place and must-to-visit! The food is tasty but not much different from other restaurants, however, the type of the building is fantastic. Eating in a historic old cave-building place is great experience. It has no lift for 2nd floor so it could not be suitable for seniors. It has several rooms but all of them are small which give the place a special taste.
Ι. Κ.
It is an amazing place. The staff is very polite and professional, they don't rely on the historical heritage of the pub. They have a typical variety of drinks and proper food, at reasonable prices. It's a must-go place. Hope it remains intact for another 900 years!
P. B.
A fantastic pub.. A great selection of ales
Great atmosphere and friendly staff
j. b.
lovely food in a very interesting and atmospheric environment. I had a sup of the 2 pint lager accompanying the sharer tortilla which was yummy!!!! There is a lot to look at in this unusual little venue
K. S.
Very cool place, a cave resto-bar. The food quality was amazing. It is a must to reserve a table, don't skip this step, I advise. They have traditional British meals in their menu. So go for it!
s. n.
A Real sense of History fills your head as soon as you enter within !
A good selection of beers and quite a nice & reasonably priced food menu as well :)
We had hunters chicken with Triple cooked Chips , which were amazing !
Staff were friendly & Helpfull , The only disappointment was the cells & dungeons are now normally closed .
Next visit we must go on the Ghost walk .
I hope you enjoy your visit :)
M. C.
This pub is built into a cave underneath the castle wall. Great atmosphere and a good place to enjoy a beer or two. We saw Robin Hood with a long bow exiting the pub and that was so surreal!
P. M.
Well what can I say about this most gorgeous inn? Visited for the 1st time & was blown away! Wow!! Oh how we wish this was nearer Kingston Upon Hull where we live!! Most friendly staff & superb beer. We particularly liked Greene King Fireside beer!! Lovely & welcoming fire on a bitterly cold day. Will be definitely returning !! A1 & 5 *****.
R. N.
Amazing place that boosts to be one of the oldest pubs. It is for sure old and serves good pints. If you can take a tour of the cellars they will show you where is was the old gallows. Amazing building and atmosphere.
M. C.
Even without all the story of long history behind it, the quality if food and drink serve here are still very high. Good to see the owner did not rip off the tourist here by charging high price. I'm sure this will remind one of the top recommanded pub in Nottingham.
J. J.
Beautiful surroundings, only let down by food, unfortunately my sirloin was a rump, no watercress, split peppercorn sauce, salad was dry from heat lamp exposure and the mash I had swapped out for chips was cold. I could've let one fault slide but the whole meal had issues with each component.
C. A.
We had a restaurant in Nottingham cancel on our very big group booking. We rang Ye Old Trip to see if they would accomodate us on very short notice and they did just that! They were very welcoming and even gave our party a section of the restaurant that was intimate and suited our large party perfectly. Food and drink were all brilliant as well as the service. Thank you to the restaurant for your brilliant hospitality, and especially going the extra mile at such short notice! We will definitely be visiting again as well as recommending to friends.
E. M.
Well known for its being the oldest pub in England this is also an amazing place in 2018. Staff is kind, helpful and smiling - always appreciated. The building itself is gorgeous but there is also a nice area outside. Even prices are OK, I've been in other less worthy pubs paying quite a lot for a pint but it hasn't been the case at the yottj.
Highly recommend to anyone. Wish I could be there now.
C. B.
This place is charming! Not too crowded and an amazing interior. We went for the history, but the food and cask ales were great, too.
P. L.
They claim it to be the oldest pub i UK. It might be so. Lots of atmosphere in this old building partly built into the cave and wall of the old castle. The food was ok and good value..
S. T.
Lovely venue but unimpressed with the amount of ice in our glasses I did ask politely to have some removed but the bartender just removed 2 pieces of ice from one of the glasses and charged us £5.30
D. W.
The inn had a really nice ambience. The staffs were also quite friendly. I had the steak & ale pie and my friend had fish & chips. They were decent and the portion was huge. The prices were quite reasonable. Apparently, it is the oldest pub in England. Worth a visit.
N. W.
Amazing historic setting for a bite to eat, full of of interesting relics from the past and interpretation - great food and service tops it off 👍
T. W.
Lovely little historical pub with a friendly atmosphere. Well worth a visit.
J. R. (.
Only dissapointed they wouldn't accept a live chicken as barter for two pints...
A must do if you're in Nottingham, just to say you've drunk in a pub that's so old honestly. Staff where friendly and helpful but expect it to be busy for obvious reasons! There's lots of info on the walls to gander at and a great ball and hook game to enjoy.
Lighting is very low but given the pubs built into rock you can't knock them too much, if this is an issue there is a separate section that's brighter.
L. T.
Nice little pub in Nottingham. It's like a little maze, very old style and brings you back centuries. Worth a visit!
J. F.
Fabulous as ever .Oldest pub in country here in Nottingham. Well worth a look for it's history and character.
Good choice of ale.
Friendly staff.
Brilliant ambience
A. M.
Excellent pub. Supposedly the oldest in English history... It's a MUST if you are in Nottingham.
Beer was excellent and the beer gardens were nice.
A. K.
Love this place. If there is just time to visit one place in Nottingham, then go to the Trip
A. M.
Great place to be. Given the history of the place the food and drinks werent as expensive. Definitely recommended to all those visiting Nottingham and the Castle.
D. H.
The rooms are carved out of rock underneath Nottingham castle. A lovely atmosphere and helpful staff and a very nice pint.
R. d. C. M.
Food was great, and beer was amazing. What truly dazzled me, though, was the pub itself - its atmosphere and history. Amazing!
J. B.
What an unique place! Ye Olde Trip is worth a visit thanks to its distinctive atmosphere alone. Some of the pub's rooms are actually built in a cave. The food, beer & service quality / price -ratio was decent given that Ye Olde Trip must be a huge tourist trap as well.
G. B.
A charming place with a medievale aroma fully loaded with historic enchanting interior.
P. M.
Wonderful pub with great history. Only downside expensive for a pint.
l. w.
Fabulous old pub. Great friendly staff ,fine food . wonderful atmosphere. .loved it . Thanks guys
R. H.
Wow very very unique worth a visit just for the building and interior. Staff were very friendly. A traditional British pub
W. T.
Friendly staff great ale reasonable price. Food really good very atmospheric place. Set into the foundations of Nottingham Castle. Dubious claims to be the oldest pub anywhere but worth a visit
M. C.
Love going to this historic pub. So different to have a pint in a cave.
M. N.
We were told about this pub by a nearby restaurant and so glad we called in for a pint.
It's the UKs oldest pub built into a cave.
We sat in what was an old fireplace.
The place has so much character and according to one of the staff we spoke to may even have a ghost!!
Well worth a visit.
S. H.
Fantastic pub with lots of character and a nice beer garden
M. S.
Amazing pint, fantastic burger! Lovely atmosphere and the staff are great. Can't wait to go back😁
S. P.
What a cool place. There's a bunch of cool areas to sit inside the pub and lots of history and memorabilia on the walls. Service was great and the food looked and smelled really nice. Good selection of both cask and craft beers. Really enjoyed my time here.
N. M.
Great pub, brilliant beers, fabulous atmosphere. Interesting where it is set into the caves
P.
Great place to visit, one of the many old pubs in Nottingham, recommended look into our past, located near to the castle.
P. M.
As you'd expect from the oldest pub in England, a little on the short side! But very quaint and nice atmosphere. No ghosts to be seen, don't be fooled!
v.
Interesting set up with the pub partially dug into a hill. Busy and atmospheric place, dubbed as the oldest pub in UK (haven't checked this statement up, though), but in either case, absolutely worth it to go for a pint or two. I would not say that they have a great beer selection - it is okay.
S. H.
Met friends from work great public house lots of charterer and I mean lots
Sat close to the kitchen so saw a lot of food pass by looked stunning will eat there next time I visit
M. L.
Good stuff. The oldest pub in England is a must see. Nice and warm inside. Clean. Nice staff. Clean toilets. I recommend this place.
A. P.
The Trip is an iconic Nottingham pub. Reassuring whirr of extra Aircon/filter in the background. Usually good choice of beer, usually including Framework for Leicester (which is vegan) although not today
E. F.
The pub is an excellent place to experience! There are many different rooms to sit in that are carved into the cave. It gets really busy so if you want food it can be better to book but the service was great!
R.
A must visit. The oldest Inn in England. Had a pint and lots of food. Nachos with pulled pork, the meat platter, and a steak pie.
R. R.
Lovely pub. With good food. Lot of history, and reportedly the oldest pub in UK
R. K.
Still here at the moment. Very historic and cozy pub. Tasty food and good drinks!
C. W.
Loved this place it is so quant little rooms everywhere
j. b.
Genuine historical pub. Busy and understandably tight due to its historic layout. Excellent place to to visit.
S. K.
Oldest Pub in Nottingham. Its got the traditional feeling of a pub. Nice and cosy with good outside wearing arrangement
A. B.
Friendly staff and stunning olde worlde pub. Good range of seasonal ales as well
P. S.
Great historic pub in the centre of Nottingham. Order from your table on the app or go to the bar, it's totally up to you. Well stocked selection including some wine varietals rarely seen in lesser pubs! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and want to have a bit of the Robin Hood experience.
b.
Very nice drink and pub.
m. S.
This pub is just magical. Claims to be the oldest pub in England. It is literally built into a rock face. Robin Hood can be seen giving tours of the area. Beer was beautiful. We sat outside as was a nice day. Really recommend popping in.
M. B.
Interesting little bar. Definitely one for the tourists. There were Americans everywhere. We sat in the Ward Room, which had a lovely fireplace. Only had drinks as we were in a hurry and the food was a little pricey. As an added bonus, we saw Robin of Loxley himself at the bar!
S. V. S.
Very friendly staff. Great selection of special brews and find, bar snacks in a cozy cave setting. Definitely a must in Nottingham.
J. M.
Lovely atmosphere, great food, very friendly staff, fantastic piece of British history.
K. F.
Such a quirky place to have a pint. We sat up in the museum room, which is dug into the rock. Went mid afternoon before it got busy.
N. K.
The oldest pub in Nottingham and the former place to meet your friendly crusador before they headed off to the Holy Land to slaughter. Today there are more friendly people and it really ist just very cool to hang out under the castle, inside the rock and see the ship that has not been dusted since... since a very long time ago. It has a very specific reason that I forgot, but you can really just go there and find out for yourself. Don't forget to have a pint then too!
B. M.
What a fantastic pub. When in Nottingham it is a must to visit even if you are teetotale.
E. E. T.
Always a lovely place to relax and enjoy lunch with some beer.. Sightseeing you need to visit!!! Remarkable and timeless.
P. S.
A fantastic authentic pub in a cave, reasonable prices and friendly staff, well worth a visit
C. D.
Good beer, quirky location, decent outside space
N. H.
This pub is amazing, we have wanted to go for a long time, it was very busy but the Xmas fayre was on. This pub is right next to the castle, carved out of the caves at the base of the castle wall, it is full of character, and history, lots of small rooms, open fires, outside seating, can't wait to go again
k. p.
Visited this fantastic place yesterday and all I can say is Wow. This is such an amazing pub steeped in history. We sat in the cave and it was very cosy, also ordered the steak and ale pie which was hot, delicious and the best pie I've eaten in a long time. Will definitely visit again when we visit Nottingham Thank You
A. F.
Such a quirky pub with lots of different rooms, the cave feature is great. The food and service was great
R. N.
This is an absolute must see if you go to Nottingham. It is the oldest pub or claim to be one of the oldest in England. It is incredible if you can get into the cellar and see some of the old history which is even older than the pub itself. This was a castles Brewery amazing and incredible to see.
G. R.
If in Nottingham for first time this is a must. 800 year old pub carved into the castle
A. T.
Lovely historic Inn, great food and service and going back in time ⏲
P. H.
This place never fails to impress, and Karl always goes above and beyond! He helped to make my birthday boy's (28th! 🤭) birthday celebrations even better. Food wonderful, staff amazing, great selection of ales and gin!! If you only do one thing in Nottingham, make sure it's a visit to here 💖
K. G.
Cute exterior and then funky interior. It's almost like you're in a cave, as the castle brickwork is all exposed etc. Nice staff. Quick service. Only rated 4 and not 5 because my cheesecake wasn't great, it hadn't been fully defrosted! My friends enjoyed their food. But overall, a pleasant place.
a. b.
Great beers Great food.👍
M. G.
excellent and very popular oub in Nottingham good beer, good rum and ginger beer.
Y. H.
Interesting pub built into caves. Good beer. Local regulars are friendly to visitors. Paddles of three half pints of beer available.
M.
Nice food. Very small bar but that's because it's a very old pub. Inside it's very open and goes on for a while with lots of history on the walls and in the caves. Did get busy when I was there recommend booking ahead
D. B.
Oldest pub in England built into caves, very nice and very busy brilliant
M. S.
What a fantastic pub so much history here and built into the castle walls also great food and selection of drinks well worth a visit you won't be disappointed
A must see place oldest pub in the UK
D. J.
Not only has this pub got history it also has a crackin beer choice and the steak and ale pie is enormous... I'm stuft!!🤗👍
G. F.
Quirky historic Inn with loads of nooks and crannies and bags of atmosphere. Narrow rooms and low ceilings make it a bit claustrophobic or add to the ambience depending on your point of view. The food was very average pub food but nothing wrong with it.
d. h.
Really nice old pub, has lots of dis-jointed rooms that blend together nicely in an old-fashioned Style. Says on the internet it closes at 12pm, it actually closed at 11pm and rushed us out. Staff where polite and nice enough. Nice outside seating area to enjoy the weather.
C. R.
Great pub filled with locals and tourists! Come grab a drink and you will not regret it.
M. J.
Loving history as I do, this was a must to go visit. Templar/Crusader period being my favourite. Unfortunately didn't get a Chance to do the tour. But will book and do next time.
L. K.
The main selling point of being the oldest pub in England and also being built into caves make this a worthwhile visit whilst in Nottingham, although the food and drink is nothing special.
A. J.
Wow what an amazing place. Definitely worth a visit!
J. L.
Drinking in a little piece of history. The ales were great, staff were welcoming and it was a very cool way to spend an hour.
G. W.
Delicious range of beers, gorgeous food, welcoming staff, and an addictive horn ringing game. All drenched in an historic atmosphere as you tread in the footsteps of crusaders. What more could you want?
B. B.
Good food great beer very historic not to be missed
B. B.
Lovely pub friendly and chill out nice drinks
P. R.
We sought this place out specifically on a day out in the city. What an amazing little pub! It was so dark inside we had to let our eyes adjust for a few seconds for fear of walking into a wall but it adds to the atmosphere and we wouldn't want it any other way - truly magical! The ceiling undulates above you where the natural rock fought back to the tunnelling and the bottles of alcohol are underlit so that you can see what you're ordering. It was a beautiful sunny day so we sat in the front seating area but there was lots of little nooks inside and a sunny interior courtyard too. A must visit if you're in the area.
R. H.
Booked a meal here with my sister as part of a day out in Nottingham. Set in the wall of Nottingham Castle, Ye Olde Jerusalem is an interesting building. We had to eat outside but that was OK. The menu isn't huge but there are various pub classics, sandwiches, and pies to choose from. Not many desserts, though.
The staff were lovely, and went out of their way to check ingredients for my sister's unusual allergy. The food was nice, and I'd love to return for indoor dining in the future.
J. W.
Nice food. Friendly staff.
Only complaint was how long it took to get a drink! Bar area too small for the volume of guests. Maybe waiter service for drinks?
Well worth a visit though.
J. R.
Considering this is such a unique and quirky ancient pub, a must see for visitors hewn out of the sandstone of castle rock, it was a pleasant surprise how limited external space has been used to great advantage to help with Covid safety and protect customers. It was a big thumbs up from my visitors anyway.
S. M.
Certainly don't build them like this anymore. Delicious pint and friendly staff.
A. A.
A milestone for who loves the Middle Ages and the medieval locations. The pub stretches inside the caves under the castle of Nottingham. Every room has a lot of strange objects and funny stories about the city.
S. H.
Absolutely lovely place, very interesting with all the different rooms. We loved sitting in the caves! The food was fantastic and plentiful and the staff were amazing so friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend this lovely pub.
D. K.
A quirky old cave pub under Nottingham Castle. We didn’t have a chance to try their food but it’s an amazing place to have a few drinks and explore.
P. R.
Smelly dusty cave but a must visit. Lots of beer choices and the food was surprisingly good. The steak and marrow pie was fantastic.
A. G.
Nice interesting place but unfortunately the food I ordered was burnt, portion size compared to price was poor, staff was pleasant but appeared to be untrained and running around like headless chickens the person that brought our food to the table seemed to be no more than a child, really wanted to visit here but felt very disappointed on the whole.
K. D.
Was busy with lots of reserved seats, beer went flat quick and on another table 4 Sunday roast dinners we're sent back to the kitchen. Not a good advert for the food.
K. B.
Nice peaceful place for a Sunday dinner 🥘
Easy to order by app, prices could be lower.
B. P. (.
Nice pub built into a rock, low ceilings and old. Ales are good aswell
r.
What a truly historic and beautiful pub with a very good selection of cask ales and efficient friendly service. Bloody miracle for a Greene King pub. We sat outside in the beer garden. Lovely.
M. G.
Nice traditional pub, good beer and olde world atmosphere
R. S.
Gonna do the windmill to scare the tourists next time
P. H.
Ancient pub with multiple rooms built into the castle rock sandstone. Lots of outdoor space too. First went in around 1975 when I used to work on Castle Boulevard. At one point the space outside the Trip was designated as the staff gathering area for fire drills. This was soon changed when the authorities realised that if the drill took place during opening hours, most of the staff would head inside for a quick one !
H. S.
The oldest inn in England will take you back to medieval and has lots of story, one of them is the cursed ship.
J. G.
We had a brilliant time at the Trip to Jerusalem
We sat outside and the meal was wonderful the staff was cheerful. We sat outside because we had the dog with us and he said he'd enjoyed it too. Thank you...
C. D.
Is what it says on the website, quirky old pub selling good beers and very tasty food. Nice to visit a proper old style pub. Staff welcoming and cheerful, facilities clean and tidy.
T. L.
Lovely little pub in the side of a cave, its a must visit when in nottingham and the area around is very picturesque
s.
Took my US in law for a visit, he was amazed at the history and caves, liked the beer too.
M. R.
Nice friendly pub built in to the rock well worth a visit
F. S.
Very interesting interior. Has a wide selections of beverages and a rather large menu. There are informative plates and leaflets describing the place for all people who are interested in history. Should be on your list of things to visit
L. K.
Absolutely fab place. Great atmosphere, but often pretty busy (it's a popular place for tourists as well as locals) - so be prepared. Amazing selection of drinks and a very friendly staff.
I. J.
Even if you don't like beer or pubs this has to be worth a visit just for it's history and place at the base of the castle walls. Take a look inside and you can imagine the Knights of old drinking here before setting off for the wars. Didn't eat here but food options looked OK, some good and different local beers available.
A. L.
Great pub, built into the wall of the castle.. Its like a maze inside.. And great selection of beers on..
S. M.
The oldest pub and the best pub in England 🏴 🍻 . To see more photos please visit my Instagram page @scottstravelphotos
B.
Very interesting place, with good ales !
A. J.
Lovely very old pub in Nottingham. Food was very good as was the service
P. H.
Lovely pub with alot of history. Must check it out
V. P.
Great little pub with an awesome history! A must for any tourist's trip to Nottingham! Make sure to explore the upstairs too, it's very unique.
D. P.
It's a must do in Notts. They have a great IPA on tap and the sides are a good choice if you are looking to snack. Wouldn't recommend the sirloin steak at all - the worst piece of meat I've had and the lettuce was wilted/brown - rocket and some balsamic reduction would've gone a lot better for decorations. Expect pub food, good beer a great historic site.
A. J.
I guess it's a place that you only go for food if you are a tourist visiting the city. We were a group of 12,food was well cooked but nothing extraordinary. They have a good home beer, and service was good.
R. N.
Amazing historic pub in cave under castle highly recommended.
A. S.
Quaint old pub with lots of nooks and crannies
C.
Wow! must visit when in Nottingham. History in abundance has be visited to appreciate it fully and real ale to boot.
T. B.
Great pub, steeped in history dates back to the 12th century
M. S.
Just amazing- to think how many have walked through those doors, crossed those floors & drank a pint here....
S. J.
Proper English pub, full of history. Offers great range of beers etc. Very friendly staff. Always call in when I'm in Nottingham
I. T.
Ancient quirky pub, gets busy inside and out, sometimes a bit of a wait when busy. Nice area outside for sitting in the sun
L. S.
Cool pub, great spot on a sunny day!
G. S.
Genuine old pub with half-a-dozen smallish bars and a garden. Good range of beers. Busy with customers of all ages.
A. T.
Lovely quirky place to visit. Nice meal - nothing fancy just tasty hot food. Clean, warm, comfortable. Also crowded - so book ahead.
C.
Great atmosphere staff and regular customers really friendly and welcoming
J. B.
What an unique place! Ye Olde Trip is worth a visit thanks to its distinctive atmosphere alone. Some of the pub's rooms are actually built in a cave. The food, beer & service quality / price -ratio was decent given that Ye Olde Trip must be a huge tourist trap as well.
C.
Wow! must visit when in Nottingham. History in abundance has be visited to appreciate it fully and real ale to boot.

Ancient pub with multiple rooms built into the castle rock sandstone. Lots of outdoor space too. First went in around 1975 when I used to work on Castle Boulevard. At one point the space outside the Trip was designated as the staff …
D. H.
Great for the novelty and perfectly placed enroute to or from The Park Tunnel. Great food and drink, very interesting to spend time in and certainly somewhere not to be missed.
H. A.
Quirky pub. Lots of little rooms. Plenty of outdoor seating. Had lovely Mac & cheese. Missed out on the afternoon tea cheesecake 😋
J. V.
Steak ale pie wonderfully and the ales and the service spot on 👍🥳
E. K.
One of Nottingham’s oldest pubs, a warren of tiny rooms and a beer garden at the rear. Drinks average priced for Nottingham but food a let down, not excellent for the price but eatable. I have had better and cheaper food at another pub run …
N. K.
The oldest pub in Nottingham and the former place to meet your friendly crusador before they headed off to the Holy Land to slaughter. Today there are more friendly people and it really ist just very cool to hang out under the castle, …
R. J.
A very nice atmosphere built into the caves below Nottingham castle. The drinks were reasonably priced and there was a good selection to choose from. We noticed they also served food as a family next to us ordered fish and chips that looked very appealing! We had reservations at another restaurant so gave it a miss on this occasion. The staff were friendly and polite and offered suggestions on which whiskey I should order. It was busy but not so loud that you couldn't have a conversation like many other pubs we have been to, it is advertised as the oldest public house in the UK but I can't say if that statement is true or not.
J. F.
Amazing pub. Beautiful sunny day to sit in the garden and served at the table. No better way after shopping to chill out with a long cool drink. Staff are really friendly
m. h.
Lovely pub, part of the Greene King chain, oldest Inn in UK. We like the menu at these pubs, however what you get does differ between pubs. The Rockingham Arms at Wentworth serves an amazing fish and chips, but the one from here was a bit of a let down, only saved by the amazing chips. The fish seemed small, and the mushy peas were like soup. We ordered Mac cheese for our son which was already pre made with spinach in it. When he had the same meal in The Golden Lion in York, he announced that it was the best Mac cheese he had ever had. I had the rump steak skewer and I think the chef needs some practice cooking steak. I had asked for it medium rare and it came cooked medium, but the steak had no crust on the outside and looked like it had stewed rather than fried. I probably should have complained, but our boys were having a lovely day and I didn't want to make a fuss. The pub itself is fantastic and wonderfully quirky. The staff were welcoming, friendly and gave really fantastic service.
g.
Lovely bar ..cool inside on a hot day .staff our lovely .nice pint .and gin for me girlfiend
c. d.
Lovely little inn situated near the castle. Ordered from the greene king app and was served quickly and the staff are friendly and welcoming . Would highly recommend for a place to pop and have a drink .
P. C.
Friendly country pub set in an attractive rural setting. Pleasant walk from Midhurst, especially using the back lanes at the side of the pub. Good selection of ales and Friendly service.
D. C.
Very quirky and interesting old pub in the rocks under Nottingham Castle. A bit of a tourist haven but definitely worth a visit and a drink.
L. B.
Lovely experience. A pleasant evening with friends in a friendly atmosphere.
k. p.
Good pub with many cubby holes, I hooked the string on my third go
B. J.
Although Nottingham is not worth visiting as a tourist if you find yourself there then Ye Olde Trip is a must. Alternatively, if like me you like olde world pubs then again, it's a must see. Lovely place, nice pub food, and lovely helpful staff.
R. B.
Oldest Pub in England and they serve Ayup me Duck beer among a few others, grab a pint and some history.
B. V.
Terrific Gin cocktails ,.one of the best we ever had. Nice ambience as well.in one of the oldest bars in all of UK
H.
Nice quirky pub... with so much history - worth a visit if n Nottingham
K. D.
Absolutely Gorgeous there,Oldest Pub in the UK,Friendly Staff,Food is Awesome and so clean..not to mention the Beer..
I do highly recommend this place if your in the area or just out for a drive..
M. C.
Great pub to visit. Food fairly decent....shame they microwaved the steak and ale pie....pastry was a bit soggy because of that. Not much veg served either. Very quaint though.
D. B.
Nice old pub. Met up with an old ex colleague (Royal Navy) from 1980.
h. r. ,. h. r. a. m.
What an amazing place to visit. Its more a museum where you can have a drink or a meal. Explore the different rooms. Staff were very friendly. We'll worth a visit
A. O.
Well worth a visit just for the history plus good food and staff very friendly and helpfull
E. F.
Overpriced drinks but pub very cool and full of interesting history and artifacts. Enjoyed the ghost walk that starts here on a Saturday.
S. B.
Alleged to be one of the oldest pubs in Britain. Whether it is or not, it is still a great place to go for a drink and a bite to eat if you feeling hungry.
The atmospheric pub is built into the Castle rock giving it an unusual quirky interior. Very popular as a go to venue.
Good selection of beers and drinks as well as a nice food menu.
Always worth a visit as it is situated in one of the nicer areas of Nottingham. Will be even more desirable once the Castle opens after its refurbishment l, hopefully later this year.
R. D.
One of the oldest pubs in the world. Great beer and food. Definitely worth a visit.
B.
This is such a beautiful pub and was my first time visiting. Just a shame the food let it down. Who serves a vegan pie without gravy? Surely you can make a vegan gravy. If you can't do that then take the pie off the menu. It was very dry. We also had to wait a long time for our meals and I was given the wrong dish.
The 4 stars are for the pub itself. Its stunning!
A. N.
I liked this little Pub, lovely atmosphere and obviously extreamly old, fantastic tourist attraction for Nottingham, my main issue with it isn't actually the place itself but the fact that the it's kinda ruined by the huge extreamly ugly 70s building right across the road in the middle of loads of lovely old buildings but literally looming over this building, we sat outside so probably noticed this more than if you were inside.
J. O.
Been here a few times in the past but not for several years until this visit.
There was a warm welcome from the people behind the bar, unusual these days, and a good selection of beer on offer.
The first beer we ordered was gone after one pint was pulled so we had to choose again as we were a group of five.
This turned out to be a good thing as the eponymous 'Old Trip ' bitter was a great bitter and the best drink of the night.
Don't know which company owns this place now but it was a very professional operation and the pub looks well cared for.
It hasn't always been like that but this is one of the reasons why I will definitely be going back 👍
D. M.
Good lunch and nice beers. Always a favourite when in Nottingham
O. H.
Definitely worth a visit. Order via Greene king app but still get quality service especially so close to a tourist attraction as big as notts castle. Lovely pub made better by staff and seating arrangements.
D. S.
Very nice quaint pub. Fantastic how it has been built into the original castle walls. A must see for all who come to Notts.
C. M.
Good beers (real ales and more modern craft beers), really friendly staff, nice food in good sized portions.
Even better that all of that though is the fact that you get to have a beer while sitting in a cave! It's not cold or spooky either, but it does feel like you're part of Nottingham's history being in there, and like a bit of a sanctuary on a cold night. It makes for a good atmosphere too - all the pub goers (regulars and tourists alike) in there are friendly and chat together about the surroundings. Great pub.
M.
Fantastic pub. Loved it pre-lockdown when you could go inside and still love it during this lockdown easing when we can only sit outside. Only drawback is the courtyard gets a little chilly in shaded areas and obviously we can't choose to sit indoors so heaters in areas like the corner might be a good idea.
E. S.
Very nice place. The food was very good and the beer was delicious
T. B.
A history rich pub that is a unique visit in a beautiful city. A slight shame that this is a greene king pub and not an independent however this does mean you know what you are getting in terms of good service and food. The staff were friendly and helpful with the bar still offering local brewery goods as well as your pub staples. Would visit again
S. K.
Historical real ale pub and despite being a Greene King pub has a great selection of guest ales. Must visit if you're in Nottingham!
A. S.
I went to the Trip yesterday evening, the first pub since March 2020! I thought the system they had in place was excellent - the staff were really helpful and are clearly making a big effort during these challenging times - I was in a group of three and we downloaded the Greene King app to order drinks and food - it worked perfectly! :) Also, the burger I had was one of the best I've ever had in a pub. So, well done to the Trip and all its staff! :)
V. D.
The pub is lovely and it is worth visiting just to take a look at the beautiful stone room. I cannot comment on the quality of food as we didn't eat there.
L. H.
The best pints I've had since being here. The local breweries doing the city proud
S. A.
Wow, what an atmosphere. Loads of info on walls about the building. Good food selection, ordered fish and chips, arrived without much wait and it was served hot
D. W.
Lovely pub. Nice staff great food. If ypu only have time or money for one... its probably better to visit here than Nottigham "castle".
P. L.
Nice little pub. Great food and atmosphere
H. “. x.
Giving it 4 as I haven't tried to food yet there but this is a lovely pub and plenty of different areas to sit.
A. B.
Fantastic place with with an incredible atmosphere
c. d.
It's a really unique experience in itself to have a pint inside an old British pub but this one stretch it to another level.
The garden outside is nicely maintained while the rocks inside will make you feel like if you were part of the castle.
The food is good, I was really impressed with the nachos although the bread used for the burger wasn't that good.
Again, this pub is worth 5 stars just because of its uniqueness, everything else comes as a plus.
D. L.
A great stop for a great choose and quality beer.
The oldest pub in England, indeed deserve a stop.
Brilliant staff
K. H.
Great pub and great history. I think the staff seemed fed up. We called for a pint on Saturday about 6.30 and noticed the atmosphere re staff. Think the staff need a boost something nice to look forward too some good feedback, better working conditions, a bonus. Somehow staff moral could do with a boost. Some November December cheer.
t.
Great old chilled pub, good selection of beers and ales.
H. A.
Quirky pub. Lots of little rooms. Plenty of outdoor seating. Had lovely Mac & cheese. Missed out on the afternoon tea cheesecake 😋
B. O.
Great place to have drinks with a small group of friends. They are able to take larger crowds but not many. They literally had to shut down the kitchen early because of a large party taking over their entire upstairs seating space. Despite this they worked hard to get our food to us first, we just missed out on dessert, but this was clearly abnormal. The place can feel tight at times but is a great place to check out if you are visiting or like the real pub feel.
K. K.
900 years and still going. Don't find places like this everyday...let alone built into a cave. Did I say 900 years...that is 1149AD. Oh and Robin Hood is just on top of the hill as you travel down a wonky cobblestone way. Wear the most comfortable shoes you own. Otherwise the wrong pair will give you some ruthless blisters...my heals were chewed up...oh goodness I'm waffling😂🇬🇧
J. 3.
Went a couple of years back and thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
N. M.
Nice atmosphere, very old school interior (obviously!!) Drinks prices are a bit high though if I remember correctly.
E. K.
I just loved this pub from the moment I've seen it.
The staff was very kind and polite. The food was excellent (chiken burger 😋)
The arhitecture of the pub it's amazing. I couldn't help myself to take some photos as a remember.
If you ever go to Nottingham, you definitely have to try their menu.
r. v.
it was the reason I came to Notingham and it did not fail to live up to its reputation! The bar is basically a museum with a lot of things hanging from the wall. Every table has his own story and the bar has its own beer. Legends, stories and history is all around you! The atmosphere is very nice and welcome. Met some great people there and had a wonderful time! I will definitely be back!
B. J.
Very nice little pub, love the atmosphere even in the outdoor dining. The mash tasted a bit odd, like it was out of a box, but otherwise good dining experience.
R. J.
Wonderful and historical place, excellent to eat or drink.
R. C. (.
A fantastic pub with lots of character. Great service and friendly staff.
🤘🏼
D.
Incredible history to the place. Possibly built in 1189AD! Big fish and chips had great taste but not mind blowing.
B.
Amazing place everything is great good beer 👍👍
M. S.
We visit this attraction and was not disappointed in any way, staff were friendly and polite, the food was excellent and value for money. The building made you feel like being back in time with its woodern beams and ageing walls, brilliant experience would highly recommend this building
A. C.
Lovely food and friendly staff in a unique building!
R. B.
Nice food friendly service
D. H.
Great for the novelty and perfectly placed enroute to or from The Park Tunnel. Great food and drink, very interesting to spend time in and certainly somewhere not to be missed.
N. J.
Lovely pub, great range of ales, secluded from busy area and outside drinking areas. Staff nice n polite too. What more could you want? Oh yeah, the history of the place is awesome!
A. Q.
Great spot for a bite to eat. Decent food, decent beer, gorgeous setting. Close to the heart of town, it's in an accessible area without feeling crowded. There's a good buzz there in summer, it might even be a wait to get a table at peak. The old aesthetic of this pub is unique even for a town so full of ancient pubs so it's well worth the visit!
J. S.
Fantastic old pub. Good food. And place... near Nottingham castle.
C. W.
As one of Nottingham's most popular tourist locations, I was expecting a cramped pub with overpriced beer. I was pleasantly surprised to find reasonable prices (around £4 a pint) and a beautifully maintained interior with plenty of history and dignified novelty to be found. The food was quite good although better exists within walking distance.
S.
Historic pub with lots of rooms to explore. Smooth service. Fair range of ale. Seating area outside.
S. W.
If you fancy a beer, this is a must-visit, allegedly the oldest pub in the UK, kind of built in to the rock face, very cool :)
N. B.
It's a wonderful and historic pub from ancient times. While I didn't enjoy their beer, the atmosphere and layout is worth exploring. The decor is fun and dated. Although I wouldn't recommend this as an every night pub, it shouldn't be missed.
S. B.
Come on you can't be in Nottingham and not visit the oldest pub in the world good beer good company good crowds it's Nottingham for goodness sake just go and enjoy
D. L.
Amazing and beautiful old pub with so many wonderful stories
I. M.
Very nice atmosphere love a pub in a cave

Not a bad little Pub. Its claimed to be the Uks Most Oldest Pub and also the Most Haunted too 😉😀.
Great vibe in there, great food too at reasonable prices, nice place to sit and have a drink too.
A Very historic Pub, just sitting immediately below Nottingham Castle.
A great place indeed 😀

Nice place to have a drink. Excellent pale and excellent environment. You find a curious game in the wall where you have to put a ring in a horn.
The decoration is very atypical for a pub, but is the oldest pub every bit so... and some rooms are dig in the rock :)
S. H.
Really friendly helpful staff. Great olde worlde pub.The food and drink are excellent. Well worth a visit when in Nottingham and right next to the castle.
T. P.
What a fantastic place, unfortunately the food was disappointing, everything seemed to be microwaved and the so called triple cooked chips appeared to me to be just normal frozen chips. Beer was OK but not great,
C. L.
A great pub, not just for tourists, good food, good drink, friendly locals. Love it
A. W.
Such a neat pub! So much history. Unique interior being carved into the side of rock. Love the outdoor seating as well. Great ales on tap. Food is same as any other Greene king pub.
C. F.
Atmospheric with good beer and nice food. Been visiting the trip for decades and it's still one of the nicest pubs.
S. M.
Excellent pub, my favourite!!! Great ales in a place full of history, next to the castle its self. I recommend this place to all, family too. The food is very good all served with excellent staff.
If your lucky you might get a free history' lesson or tour. I dont give five for nothing, please try

Extremely lovely steak and IPA's! Lovely staff.
M. M.
Fantastic selection of drinks and snacks. However a bit short in indoor space.
P.
Always a pleasure to pop into this lovely old pub when passing through Nottingham.
L. M.
Lovely pub. Dripping with history. If you like medieval architecture with its wooden beams, wonky floors, artwork and swords on the wall then you'll love this place. Had only a fruit crumble and a coffee here today so can only comment in those as far as food & drink goes. Both were very good.

Gorgeous little pub in Nottingham. Visited here over the weekend, sat and had a drink in the outside area. Super interesting and there's information plaques about the pub all around if you fancy a read! We didn't order the food but it looked and smelt gorgeous from what we could see from others! Staff were pleasant and it truly is a wonderful experience
R. M.
The inside is very pretty, which creates an interesting atmosphere.

I had less than 15 hours to do some tourist things for my first time in England, so of course within 30 minutes of landing I threw my luggage in the hotel and tromped on over for a pint. Now usually with my travelling I order local currency but had forgotten, however the pub does take plastic. Hooray.
The establishment is great, staff is superb and the patrons were friendly. Recommend very highly.
P. R.
Really surprised by the great interior, just dug out of the cliff face, great service, well worth a visit!

Good service .great location and historically placed bar.
D. J. M.
Lovely and very good although the service was little slow
K. D.
Full of such history and charm, you must stop off for a pint and take in the wonder of the caves it was built in
M.
This is a fairly unusual bar, but so cool! Carved into the rock are little caves that interlink to form the pub. This is a must visit place if you're in Nottingham. Didn't eat here but the food looked pretty good for pub grub.
G. H.
Without a doubt the best old pub in Notts and England if the legends are true. The history and mystery of this place is reason enough to visit. The food is nice and they do a wide selection of beers, wines and other alcoholic beverages. If you like history and beer you need to visit this place.

Lovely historic pub run by a very friendly team. We have regular games nights there and they always very kindly reserve a little room for us, making us feel very welcome.
We have had food there and it is always tasty. Can highly recommend the sliders board if you're like me and totally indecisive.

Great pub, beer and a peace of history, what more do you want?
A. V.
This pub claims to be the oldest one in England! Located just beside the Nottingham castle, the pub definitely offers one a typical old time English pub experience! The place has arched entrances, stone walls that are whitewashed and gives a rugged interior look and the first floor room has a high ceiling- all typical of medieval pubs or alehouses. This pub is now owned by Greene King and offers several ales. The Abbot ale is recommended along with vegetarian platter with onion rings. A must visit for a special experience!
M. M.
Great experience, dived in Nottingham history.
The pub is placed under Nottingham's castle, digged into stones. The environment is amazing with its historic features. Swords, paints and statues are only some of the things you can find there. Plant of different drinks accompanied by very good food.
It's the oldest pub of the world, surely one of the best I have ever been.
J. R.
A very interesting and atmospheric place, where you can meet interesting locals, play old games and enjoy a proper authentic british pub experience.
I. W.
Absolutely amazing place! Great service, great selection of beers, food really tasty! We loved all those little rooms! We will definitely be back! What a little gem! It became our favourite place to go to in Nottingham!
D. K.
Oldest pub in the country. Carved into the side of the rock which Nottingham castle is situated on.
M. R. J.
A great classic pub with rich history - quaint and quirky.
The pub is a warren or rooms and spaces to drink, and eat. It is very popular and there is a constant churn of folk arriving/leaving. Insude rooms are small and cosy. Getting a seat may not be easy, but patience may reward.
It has great atmosphere - definitely unusual and worth a visit. "Ye old trip" ale, is very tasty!
M. B.
Wonderful unique pub steeped in history and built into cave at the base of Nottingham Castle. Very popular and often busy still definitely worth visiting. They sell three types of gluten free beer from Shiny Brewery.
P. B.
A truly unique pub experience. Everyone visiting Nottingham should come here
A. W.
Good real ale choice. Very slow service though
A. S.
Amazing old pub, low ceilings, very cosy and with great pies
D. C.
We navigated our way to the pub and wow was that walk worth it. Splendid, historic pub that had some excellent locals enjoying the night.
I challenge you to in the ward room play, bating the bull. Great laugh and if your lucky a sticker for your efforts.
We had some food and everyone enjoyed it, steak and ale pies with beef dripping pastry were top notch as were the burgers, fish and chips and also the fish.
Will visit with friends again in the future. Management helped me a few days later with a missing receipt for expenses. Top job thank you & the team 10/10
M. N.
Very buisy, found a couple of seats it's a maze of rooms. Very atmospheric. Will be going again.
+ great beers.....

You can't go to Nottingham without enjoying a pint at Ye Olde Jerusalem
R. S.
What an amazing place?!!!! FASCINATING pub built into the caves under Nottingham Castle.... Great choice of beer and gin plus my favourite whisky!! Good inside seating and loads of outside tables. Recommended! (sorry, didn't tri the food, but did I say it served my favourite whisky?! 👍🥃😉
j. m.
Just amazing place. Very friendly.

Bloody great pub! Nice beer, nice food and really good atmosphere. Not much to say against it to be honest. Even their own beer is fab! It does get busy at times but this is a pub of immense character and charm
so it appeals to visitors from foreign shores. All of this adds to its qualities!
l. j.
Loved this place with all it's history and nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy your beer, cracking food and a lovely atmosphere. We will be back.
P. A.
Interesting and unusual place to visit with a good selection of beers and friendly staff. We had the Sunday roast and I'm afraid I couldn't recommend it. I don't know if it is representative of the rest of the menu but the portion sizes were quite small and the beef very tough. Don't visit if you dislike spiders !
A. P.
Obviously an historic pub but the beer and food were great too. Friendly atmosphere and all the staff were brilliant. They do work in testing conditions compared with other pubs but you wouldn't even know.
Lovely place to go see, highly recommend!
D.
Quirky place, halve the inside are cave like embedded into the castle walls. Nice little stop off.
J. B.
Worth visiting for atmosphere alone - small old world pub that extends into the rock underneath Nottingham Castle
K. m. R.
Small old quaint pub. The oldest pub in Nottingham. It's built into the rocks. It's got a great selection of beers. And a good menu. But was very busy when we went with a coach party. So a food wait had to be placed. So we ended up eating else where. We would go back to try the food next time we are in Nottingham
J. R.
Fantastic pub to visit. Lovely old brickwork, low ceilings and a really cozy place to grab a brew. As most people know, it's the one of the oldest inns in Britain, so it has a really old vibe that I love. Haven't managed to order any food here yet, but their beer is great. (Ye olde trip being a personal favourite) Only downside is crowding during peak hours where it's impossible to find seating.
R. R.
A great experience to be seated under a bar which was build a 1000 years ago
M. G.
A fantastic pub in Nottingham right at the foot of the castle. Amazing variety of beers, good food & the ambience of this pub is just awesome.
A must visit place when in Nottingham as you would not want to miss a chance to enjoy your beer siting inside a cave. A million likes to this pub! :):)
M. K.
Narrow passages, delicious Chocolate ale + foods = perfect hideout with history!
M. C.
You have to try this ancient pub. Can be very busy in the eves. The seating outside is pretty gloomy too in the autumn months.
I. M.
One of the must visit places in Nottingham. Reputedly the oldest pub in England. Carved into the rock below the castle
B. M.
Amazing pub. A must visit for everyone! The history and feeling of the place is fab.
L. S.
Just enjoyed a lovely visit to this atmospheric old,, and I mean old pub. The feeling you get on entertaining this establishment is really awesome. To think you are going to have a fine ale in surroundings once visited by crusaders is enough to make the hairs on your arms stand up. We sat in the cave area near the bar and enjoyed the fine ales on offer starting with their own trip to Jerusalem ale followed by a couple of milds. I must say for me to sit there and wonder about all the people that had also gathered in this space before heading of to crusade was awe inspiring. We also had two lovely meals of the most gorgeous belly pork for the wife and a plate for me of three types of sausage with creamy mash cabbage and rich onion gravy that was to die for. A this plus a warm welcome from generous hosts what more can you ask for.
Great ale, fine food, friendly welcome, and as much history as you can take in, go on treat yourselves.
C.
Great atmosphere staff and regular customers really friendly and welcoming
J. C.
Lovely atmosphere,good drinks

Looks good nice and olde worlde pub.
I sat outside ,wanted to go in
to have a proper look around but couldn't due to covid, so probably would have given it 5 stars..
A. H.
Best pub ever. Located under Sherwood Castle - did not see Robyn, Maid Marion or the Sherrif...but had a lovely beer in an awesome location. One of the oldest pubs you will find anywhere, built into the caves under the Castle, but walking distance from town. Highly recommend a visit and a cheeky beer ( or gin)..
G. G.
Amazing building. Good selection of real ale. Nice outdoor seating.
u.
Great Bar, or pub if that's what you call it. Especially true if you are from the US and don't have anything like an old bar in your town. This is a classic English pub in the old style. They claim to be the oldest pub in the UK. Lots of different little rooms to explore and sit in while enjoying your drink. Apparently, they do serve food here. Didn't try anything, but there was food delivered to another table and it looked pretty good. Absolutely worth a visit if you are coming to Nottingham.
R. J.
Lovely little pub that just oozes history! If you make a visit to the castle above, you should definitely pop in here too for a drink...
You can almost imagine the knights of old popping down here on the night shift for a crafty half whilst waiting for "Robin Hood" to show up (or not)...
Ralph.

My favourite pub in the whole world.
Set in the Nottingham caves, its just so beautiful
D. P.
Very historical, cool busy pub in the heart of the city, part of the castle’s caves. A must go to every one visiting Nottingham.
J. L.
Lovely old pub. Very old fashioned and unspoiled. Good variety of real ales, wines and spirits.
Didn't eat here but he food looked very nice.
Staff were welcoming and friendly, and were most of the locals that we spoke to.
Definitely worth visiting.
P. M.
Names the oldest inn in England. This quirky pub is built directly into the rock beneath Nottingham castle. From the minute you walk in you are whisked back in time. The first bar has seating right in the cave, followed by a further upstairs area, also built within a cave. A quaint dining a4ea leads to a haunted room too. The pub has an outside seating area as well as an internal courtyard. It serves a great range of Ales and very good food. This is an attraction that all should see on a visit to our great city
J. f.
Most stunning pub lovely Staff plenty of craft Beers. Been there a few times. Only one negative point there is a lot of rubbish around this amazing put. Rubbish bin overflowing. It she needs someone to pick it up and give the beautiful old pud the dignity it deserves. Well worth a visit
R. L.
Very interesting pub partly set into the castle rock. Good beer selection.
U. C.
Only went for a drink with a friend but was impressed by this lovely pub with it's little quiet corners. Very friendly staff who actually told us that there were extra rooms upstairs. Will come back and try the food a it looked delicious at the various tables. Nice find.
J.
This is by far one of the best pubs in the world. It boasts a wonderful cave system, cosy rooms and reasonably priced pints in a place that makes you feel as if you’ve gone back several centuries. A gemstone of Nottingham and a place that shouldn’t be missed if you’re visiting as a tourist. Don’t be afraid to explore all of the rooms, and don’t forget to look up. You won’t be disappointed.
Take note of the ship which you’ll find upstairs too. People who have tried to clean this ship have died the next day which is why it’s encased in glass. This and many more qwerks are what makes this wonderful pub ever so special.
R. M.
Such a lovely pub. Amazing history to show all. However, drinks are very expensive and the food menu is a strange one. The food is not pub grub but these fancy, strange concoctions at high prices that I cannot imagine anyone eating. Still worth a visit to see old Nottingham.
P. D.
Despite living in Nottingham for many years, had spent very little time in the trip until recently. Has become a weekly venue for our group and the staff have been fantastic, helpful and accomodating. Beer selection is excellent and the food is tasty, if slightly on the pricey side.
Well worth a visit if only to see the interesting interior!
S. V.
Really old world feel to this very small but nice pub. Situated inside the side of the castle inside the rock face means on a hot day it's cool inside (guessing that it might be very cold in winter!). Great for real ale drinkers.
D. B.
Good pub and beet selection.
D. W.
This is one of the oldest pubs in the UK, and its attached to the base of Nottingham Castle, so it's definitely worth a visit. Each room has a different amount of character - from cave-like hollows to ancient pub games to international money pinned to the ceiling. Try one of their own-brewed ales and arrange a tour of the intricate network of caves that run beneath Nottingham.
S. M.
As the oldest pub in England it is well worth your time. A great piece of history and a good selection of beers. It must be said though it has a somewhat limited selection and would be great to see more local ales. Overall though it is well worth a visit
G. L.
Really strange interior as pub is set into side of rock. Nice outdoor area with heaters in winter and rolling roof that can be rolled back in summer with bar outside. Didn't eat but food looked and smelt great. Definitely worth a visit!!!
c. k.
Great location, good food, friendly staff, not as pricey as you might expect
A. A. R.
Fun quirky place! Check out the Haunted snug, pregnancy chair and the cursed galleon
K. G.
Great pub built into the rock under the castle ,good selection of real ales
K. S.
One of our favourite pubs. But sadly today 23/12/2018 the food let it down... Normally of excellent quality it was disappointing I had the (large?) fish and chips meal the chips were a bit cold. The the fish was thin and small and had more batter than fish. I ate the dinner but did not enjoy it.. On a positive note service and beers were excellent And perhaps I should have complained when there but did not want to ruin the Christmas atmosphere.
L. H.
Unbelievable! Its like going back in time. I expected to see a medieval knight sitting at the bar. It's worth a visit just to have a look, even if you don't have a drink. There is a great selection of beers and plenty of places to sit outside on a sunny day.
d.
During my first visit ever from my home country of Venezuela to England (or Europe for that mater) a local friend brought me here in 1989 and it was a genuine down to earth pub with only a couple local blokes and no tourists, except for myself. The only fare available at the time were some sandwiches called cobbs, consisting of a very thin slice of ham with a single thin slice of processed cheese between two dry round buns. Ha, how times have changed! There where some cave passages blocked off by iron bars and the experience was simply brilliant and enjoyable while we imbibed pints a plenty at this cozy, friendly, historic and unpretentious establishment. It looks more accommodating and in tune with the times now and surely worth another visit.
P.
It's good as it's always has been since the crusades. Its the oldest pub in the whole of England dating back to 1189. Part stone building part cave as it is built in to sandstone underneth the castle . Great pub great atmosphere, where you can drink in history as well as quality kept ales. Its a must visit pub if you live in or vist Nottingham
L.
Wow! really interesting pub to explore. I wish I had a bit more cash with me because the food menu looked amazing (especially the BBQ section!). If you like real ale then there is a lot of choice, not so much for draught (decent) lager or craft beer but I found myself something. Cider festival was on and the Real ciders looked great, my friend ordered one and it was good. Friendly and prompt service from the bartenders.
