N. B.Loved it here. It is something completely different and all the staff get involved in the theme. Cocktails are amazing and have a unique twist. The theme of the venue starts at the front door where you need to press the bell and then get asked a riddle if you would like one.
Highly recommend here and it will be a regular haunt every time we visit Oxford from now on.

It is very compact inside with lots of interesting Alice in Wonderland themed decor. I will definitely go back and stay longer.

The staff was not very chatty but still was friendly enough.
Interested in the karaoke rooms! Unfortunately we were only there for a night.
Overall I would recommend this bar, we will likely come back again on a more lively night when in Oxford again.
V. W.A party of family & friends visited The Mad Hatter Saturday 7th May 2022 for my daughter's hen do. Lovely building,food & drink,never thought I would be served cocktails in tea pot,cups & saucers. Everything was delicious & staff were excellent. I would highly recommend this experience 100%

A. M. (. K. M.If you can guess a riddle you can get in. If you can't, well you can still get in but not quite as smug. Quite a nice place, usually booked well in advance. Very accommodating bar staff and not busy in the evenings which is wonderful since I do not particularly like places where you can not walk or stand without bumping into people.
If you are an Alice in Wonderland fan, you must visit!
S. A.Quaint bar with lots of character! A bit snug but definitely worth visiting as they have a thoughtfully curated event list all week long. Great drink selection that speak to the wonderland they are trying to create. Staff are pleasant and funny too if you get to speak to them. All round good vibes, which makes it such a pity that it is located so far away in Cowley!

L. D.Missing the great cocktails and karaoke nights at the Mad Hatter we were delighted to find out about their Afternoon Tea for 2 packages. We were amazed of how the box' content was put together with so much love and detail! The sandwiches, snacks and sweet treats as well as the cocktails were of the highest quality and everything simply tasted amazing. At the pickup, without me even having to ask, the staff offered to fill the cocktail glasses (reusable!) with ice cubes and they were generally just being lovely.
In terms of quality, quantity, price and staff/experience its was an absolute 5/5 in every category. Highly recommend to anyone and can't wait to do it again!

The cocktails are great, the music is always different and amazing, and the staff is incredibly welcoming and fun. My friends and I absolutely loved their themed parties. The good vibes just keep coming!!!

P. G.I really love Mad Hatter's and have had some great evenings in their karaoke rooms, which I regularly use as part of a group of 10 or so. The staff are great. The recent addition of food has been really nice - their pizza is worth trying.
There's room for improvement however as niggles that I originally chalked up as teething issues are very much still there, a few years later. Really want to stress that I very much love using this venue so the following should be taken as constructive feedback as it'll be great if these could be sorted.
The karaoke kit is looking very tired and the last two or three visits have been interrupted by technical issues. Microphones are battered, and the ones that do work are not the same volumes.
From the karaoke room it's often hard to get drinks ordered, as you're at the mercy of staff coming up to take orders. At busy times it can be difficult to get staff away from the bar. Our solution is to order yourself two or three drinks at a time but it's not ideal.
There's usually an element of confusion when it comes to settling up the bill, and it's time consuming to sort out. Our last visit took about 30 minutes.
A really great solution would be to order drinks via an app or website, letting the correct people pay up front for their drinks.
Another recommendation is to charge people for damaging your kit so it can be replaced. It's unfair on the rest of us.

G. P.We booked a karaoke room with a group of 10+. We arrived and it was fun to answer a riddle before starting. The drinks we pre-ordered were all delicious and the variety was great. There was lots of selection of songs for karaoke, we had a technical difficulty at one point but it was quickly resolved and the staff were fantastic in responding to this. We even got some free drinks which was great. None of us had booked a karaoke room before, so we didn't know what it would be like, but were very impressed and had a great time. We would come back for sure!

We hadn't planned to go here but it was the only place open past midnight. We were part of a stag do but admittedly we weren't a rowdy stag (we were all wearing tops with rainbows, and unicorns on) and were made to feel welcome after solving a riddle. The drinks are amazing, creative and delicious and I will absolutely be back again. I may even make a special trip to Oxford just to go here. The decor is wonderful! The music is ace! I can't wait for my next visit! I'm bringing my girl friends here on a girl night as it feels so safe and wonderful. Fantastic work to everyone! 🥰🥰🥰

T. P.Great themed bar in Oxford. Staff are good, but service is pretty slow. Great food options that are presented well and look great. Some very interesting themed cocktails that taste good - I'd recommend trying as many as possible, they are all excellent, if a bit wackily named. Small outdoor area that looks nice.

L. H.Went on a night out with some friends and we were SO EXCITED to come. The drinks tasted good but our waitress gave us free drinks and then 30 minutes later made us pay. Frankly, I was frustrated as we continued to order more drinks under the assumption that the earlier 2 drinks were free (as one was towards the deposit, and another was because we accidentally got overcharged by a few quid for the food order). As 2 broke college students, this was a MASSIVE bummer (as she came back at the end of the night saying we needed to pay for the 2 drinks even through we’d ordered and already paid for more since then). Additionally, we signed up for karaoke at the start of the night, but our reservation ended before we got the chance to sing, which was a bummer as other people there sang multiple times.
TLDR: drinks tasted good but service was disappointing.

I. H.Quirky little bar down a side street. You won't know about the place unless you have been there or are going. Based loosely around an Alice in Wonderland theme with cocktails to match. The converted pub is small but really characterful. Bar staff seem to know their stuff while the managers are friendly and welcoming. I even got to experience some karaoke!

E. M.The whole concept of the bar is great and the decor is pretty incredible! The host was lovely and the cocktails offered with the Afternoon Tea were pretty great too!
However the actual afternoon tea offered let the side down. First of all, there were only two types of sandwich which was disappointing in terms of variety. Second, the jam served with the scones were the little plastic packets and one of them was marmalade which was a bit confusing. It would have looked nicer with perhaps the mini Tiptrees/Bonne maman. The cakes themselves were ok and the scones were nice.
The other disappointment was that, as my mum understood it, that there would be a DJ playing at sometime that evening but they never came. Perhaps due to COVID but the website should be updated accordingly.
Finally, we were sat closest to the exit which was also near the smoking area which blew in smoke a few times. If perhaps the door could be closed or patrons encouraged to move away from the door that would be better.
All in all, I think in hindsight the venue is great just for the cocktails and I personally wouldn't book the afternoon tea again.

F. M.I have been there several times, allowing me to give this review with some better insight. The drinks in this bar are all unique an delicious and are served in a Alice in Wonderland theme providing that special extra that I have rarely seen anywhere else.
Prices are acceptable for the amount you receive although I would not say that Mad Hatters is a cheap night out.
Depending on when you visit you might encounter a live band, a karaoki night or other events. The nights do get very busy, especially on the weekend, so a reservation of a table might not be a bad decision.
One displeasing occurrence, which also was the reason for not giving a better rating, was a case of a friend throwing his birthday party there. Despite table reservations and payment upfront the bar double booked with another birthday and let our group of 30 sit in a tight corner while the rest enjoyed themselves. No compensation for their failed management and instead just a lose promise that they might provide a free drink the next time we visit and let them know it was us they poorly treated.
S.I just love this place! From having to answer a riddle on the door to get in to the just completely phenomenal selection of cocktails on offer, crafted by some of the most interesting bar staff I have ever encountered! Actual live music or a live dj seemingly most evenings makes it even more enticing. Karaoke available one night I believe if you like...I do not. A small and often busy venue it can take a few mins to get a drink and seating is a bit of a premium but well worth the wait. Themed after Alice in wonderland the whole place is a mass of interesting things to look at. Small outdoor smoking area too. Thoroughly worth venturing just off Cowley rd for!

L.The entire place is essentially one big gimmick. But it half works because it does stand out as being one of a kind in Oxford. If only they could make it easier to appreciate. For example, that annoying as hell intercom system which has static, can't pick up speech very well and keeps breaking up during a conversation makes it very difficult to answer the question to even get inside the place every single time. One time, (after repeating the question several times to me) I answered it correctly but because the intercom kept breaking up, the lady inside didn't hear properly & told me I got the wrong answer so I couldn't go in which meant I also thought I got the answer wrong, so I spent a while guessing other wrong answers before realising the intercom was so rubbish she might've just misheard my original answer. I said my answer again & she let me in. I've never been so tempted to leave a place BEFORE entering it.
Once you get inside it's mostly a good time, the karaoke is fun, the drinks are nice. But they do put stupidly large amounts of ice in the sharer teapots...
