Reviews of The Cuckoo
A. _.
I have to give this place 4.5 stars. Not everyone in our group was happy with their meal, but all in all, it was a great evening. The service was excellent. The drinks came out quick and were made well. The place is so nice inside with lots of seating, both in the bar area and the restaurant part. Nice sized car park too. Highly recommend.

Bit hit and miss in places. Went here for our wedding anniversary. Meat, gravy,Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese were excellent, but carrots were overdone, broccoli was underdone and potatoes were ok. On the other hand puddings were gorgeous and service was top quality. Would come again but would like to try the weekday menu. Good effort but needs improvement

My experience at this pub is positive and would come bck
You do order drinks and food at the bar after grabbing table outside or inside.
Our for was brought to us after 15 minutes of wait
The food tasted good and what we ordered we would order again, next time I will order fish and chips because the portion was massive and cod fish was fresh.
the sit outside was comfortable
We did not like the fact that we had to go and fetch forks and knifes to eat a meal especially when wasps flyingaroundand try to get the food that is on the plate basically lady that brought our meals should also bring cutler but this is how they serve food here I need to get up and get it yourself (!?). I do prefer to sit outside and wait for waitres to come and take order and complete the whole procedure while I enjoy my cold beer.....
My Guinness wasn't in genuine Guinness glass and tested a bit watery and the taste just wasn't there, perhaps it was from the bottom of the barrel?
toilet was clean at 5pm (before we left)
food 4/5
drink 3/5
serve 3/5
toilet 5/5
15:4=3.75 so will give 4 stars
Thank you.

Has a good size car park although next to a busy road there is not much noise from traffic. Large outdoor seating area with lots of tables, although some could use some TLC. Food tasted ok and portion size was reasonable. Drinks are a little pricey £5.50 a pint! Requested a Gluten free menu but this was not an option advised they would serve the burger without a bun and onion rings to ensure its gluten free, however symptoms were felt shortly after. Overall if you have no dietary requirements I would recommend on a nice day

This is our 4th visit... the staff are lovely and friendly.... our 3rd visit wasn't great at all the food wasn't good... however as we had 2 previously that were really nice we tried a sunday roast. meat was cooked lovely only thing i would suggest is i had 4 slices of beef... my husband had the trio of meats and literally only got 1slice of each which was small and the roast potatoes needed more roasting. other than that our server was Jordan who was very attentive and had good customer service.

Dined here on Saturday and whilst my party were not overly happy I was impressed by my food and personal experience. It was weird that my wife was told there was no Eton Mess only for the other end of table to receive Eton Mess when they expressed their borderline anger (fussy bunch).
Not sure if there is a staffing issue but lots of table cleaning needed outside. One of my party complained about the lack of service and after that the waitress was livid, even with me, and I was happy!
I don’t like to leave negative reviews so hope this is constructive. When you’ve a large party a member of staff should be assigned to them to keep them sweet at all times. I respect it was fairly busy but we’d pre-booked and the last thing you want to do is upset the vegetarian daughter of the bloke paying the bill ha! Also we had a couple of kids..... feed them first, for the parents sake :-). I will add that the manager made things right in the end, so say no more!
All in all, a lovely place, the Beef Rib looked immense! The signature burger was lovely and my sticky toffee pudding topped off what I thought was a great meal.
We will be back! (If you’ll have us) It will be an opportunity for you to impress and for us to have a good time, everyone wins!

Was good food although the starters all came out at different times. We had the garlic bread and koftas, and olives which were way too salty to eat. Mains we had meat feast pizza and fish and chips which were both really good. One of the lads that served us was really helpful and gave great service, unfortunately there were a group of staff clearing dirty glasses away at the bar that were swearing during a conversation, other than that was a good meal
A. B.
Had a lovely meal last Saturday for my Mother In-Law's birthday, really great food - we each had something different and everyone was very pleased with their meal, attentive staff and really nice country character. Service was a little slower than I'd have liked, but worth the wait.
D. B.
Me and my partner had a meal here Saturday evening and we couldn't have been happier. Great tasty food, lovely atmosphere and our waitress sophie was spot on. Would recommend eating here!
R. N.
After arriving a little later then wanted was met by a very welcoming and lovely chef who helped to seat us. However that is where it stops, the service was very isolating as first time customers we were not made to feel welcome. After ordering food and desserts together to help with them closing as it was getting late there was no discussion as to how to order desserts with the kitchen after we had our mains. We were left waiting a long time for food with no idea we had to go back and reorder! After that I didn’t mind but overhearing the staff swearing saying ‘are they taking the piss?’ From the kitchen was not very professional and made a very bad impression. Don’t recommend and not returning.

Was at the Cuckoo last night with my partner for a bite to eat. Atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff were lovely. What I did notice was the quality of the food. Didnt seem like a microwave chef had made it. Thanks guys and thanks for the chat at the bar with the bald guy. Think he said his name was Peter?
J. P.
When taking visiting friends out for lunch you want the venue, food and service to be just right. And during our visit on this occasion our experience generally was very good. We did have an issue with one of our meals not being hot enough which we raised with our server Samuel. His response to this was handled with the utmost of professionalism. He offered to replace the meal with a freshly prepared one but our guest expressed that she would be happy with it being “popped in the microwave”. Samuel confirmed that she was happy for this rather than having a freshly prepared meal and then duly took the meal bringing it back promptly. Throughout he apologised for the meal not being to our guests liking. He returned to make sure that our guest was happy which she was. At the end of the meal when presented with the bill Samuel explained that in view of our earlier experience there was no charge for the desserts. This was unprompted by us and was greatly appreciated since it was an acknowledgement of the meal not meeting expectations. This example of excellent customer service by Samuel should be recognised by the management

Lovely place and great food.. we ate outside but to be honest inside is the best. Furniture outside is uncomfortable and not suited to outside dining. Just our opinion. Food on the other hand was fabulous.
W. W.
We had a really delicious meal opting for pizzas and baked Camembert. The dolce latte and pear pizza was particularly good. The servers were all very friendly and we were served speedily. All in all a very enjoyable evening!
J. C.
Working close by, we use the Cuckoo for the occasional lunch but more often after work. Tonight was a very nice meal with the team. I got the calamari but the best bit was the beef rib coupled with a pint if Ghost Ship. We were very well attended to and were able to move from inside to outside for dessert and final drinks. Was pretty busy but not uncomfortably so. All in all, a good place.
D. P.
A very nice pub, more expensive but the quality was higher.
Beer; Wainwright's was nice and there was a good selection of lagers and wine.
The house burger with skin on fries was lovely as was the duo of lamb. My mother said the fishcakes, with lobster was the best she'd ever had!
The staff were very good and attentive.
D. S.
The service from the restaurant staff was great, well informed on the dishes available and very welcoming and hospitable.
There were only 2 bar staff though and i hae found previously when the beer garden is full (as it was) and also the bar area for meals and drinks thos becomes a problem for timely service.
G. G.
Good parking. We reserved table. Pub follows guidelines re covid. All waiters wore masks. Food was good. Reasonably good service.
P. S.
Recently stayed nearby and booked a table for an evening meal. We enjoyed the resturant atmosphere and the food was excellent so much so we booked again for the following evening. The place is super dog friendly and Kate and her staff were extremely attentive and welcoming. If we are back in that area we will definitely be back at the Cockoo
b. w.
The staffs are friendly, but so much let down by the vegan burger, which they call it Mountain moving burger. The chef could have make much effort for a £13.5 main look and taste more exciting. The house burger is a lot nicer that came with three big onion rings on top , crispy bacon inside, dressing with melting cheese .
C. A.
Absolutely amazing. Ordered the meat feast pizza. Atmosphere was lovely. Food and drinks, quick and very nice. Amazing service from everyone.
Would massively recommend.
R. R.
Brilliant meal for me and my partner. Service was spot on, friendly, informative and relaxing. Meal and drinks were perfect and all at a reasonable price.
T. S.
The best parts - they’ve always done amazing food. The service is really polite and friendly and when you get the chance to sit indoors, it’s very cosy and nice. However, there’s only one thing that lets it down for me on occasions. The drink service isn’t that great if ordering for a meal. At the bar it’s no problem. But you do regularly find yourself having to check with the staff where your drink is that you’ve ordered. Apart from this, I would thoroughly recommend the cuckoo. Great service and really good food along with a vast selection of drinks.
S. A.
Because it was my birthday we had the free bottle of Prosecco unfortunately if arrived in a ice bucket opened even though we had ordered drinks (drink driving issue)
Previous birthdays we have been given the option to leave sealed.
Minor issue I know but would still like the option.
H. H.
Love this pub. Always stop here on my way north.
G. N.
The Cuckoo has it all: friendly service, amazing food and cosy atmosphere.
I have visited a few times over last 2-3 years - sometimes just for a drink, other times for a lunch/dinner and I have to say, whoever is the chef for this place, they deserve a massive bonus. Not once has the food not exceed expectations. Always fresh, delicious and presented beautifully.
However I do have to echo the previous review and say that drink service is quite slow and you do feel a bit “stranded” when ordering a meal. Last time we’ve found that one of our drinks was also forgotten and had to order it again once the food has come through.
The atmosphere is very inviting, channeling this old cottage feel. They have quite a big outside seating area in the garden and very cosy seating indoors (pre-covid) with a lovely fireplace in the winter months!
d. k.
Good lunchtime menu, comfortable outdoor seating with shades n very pleasant staff. Nedd to order outdoor food at the bar, no waiter service other than food brought to table!
T. C.
The staff were attentive and making sure we were all okay, and the food was amazing!
The drinks took quite a while to come once we sat at the table
K. B.
Had good meal, plenty of food. Not to busy for Friday evening. Well worth a trip, no problem with parking.
R. G.
Our server was very nice and went above and beyond.
We all enjoyed our food and drinks.
The toilets were messy and unpleasant.
M. R.
Great food had Sunday roast was excellent plus staff were very welcoming and friendly will definitely visit again.
S. F.
The service was great. Food was lovely and my on line request for an accessible table for our elderly mum taken on board.
P. B.
Warned us there would be a long wait, but actually food came out quickly and was tasty and filling. Nice large beer garden.
L.
Few places in my opinion get five stars this is one of them. The Cuckoo is always packed on a Sunday so a reservation is a must.
To begin we had the Yorkshire Bites filled with beef and beef an ample size boat of gravy, the only problem was we wanted more as they are very moreish and 3 went very quickly.
For main we had the Roast Beef duo for two with a side of cauliflower cheese and seasonal vegetables and all the trimmings with two gravy boats and more for free if needed. The beef duo included a slice of medium rare sliced beef which packed rich flavour and a beef brisket which literally fell of the bone.
The staff really take their time cooking food, nothing is rushed and its worth the wait. To compliment the meal we enjoyed a bottle of The Nottage Hill Shiraz full of big bold summer fruit flavours with a touch of vanilla.
For dessert I had the famous Eton Mess which didn't even touch the sides and my friend had the Coconut Panna Cotta both desserts were perfect. Delicate flavours, not over powering at all and a nice way to end a great meal.
Customer Service by all of the staff was exceptional
Food as always wad fantastic and just the right amouny not leaving you stuffed
G. R.
Very decent restaurant, good size good food, good vibe inside, on the old English style with ecmxposed wooden beams and sofa by the fireplace. Would recommend. Also all staff were very friendly. Service was a little slow, but we had a very large group of 16 people.

What a great little gem The Cuckoo is, hidden away just sixty seconds off the Southbound A1, one junction before the motorway starts at Peterborough South and you'd never know it was there, if someone didn't tell you to turn off to Alwalton.
We pre booked at table of six for seven o'clock on a Saturday night. It was busy, but the atmosphere was really amenable. The bar area was doing a steady trend all night yet we never waited to be served and again at the table the timing between courses was great. We had one diner with complex allergies and they couldn't of made her life any easier. Our server couldn't have been better and I kick myself now that I can not remember her name. I'm sorry about that, you where from eastern Europe I think and had a very long name that the staff had shortened, your manager has a member of staff to hang on to there.
It's a nice place all round. Food was plentiful, tasted good and was hot, five out of six of us were served together the sixth close behind. Menu was varied, classical gastro pub at its best and the prices were good as well. What's not to like.
Note all photos below, inside and out, are taken as the restaurant closes for the night.
R. G.
Great looking pub very rustic, plenty of outdoor seating, paying over £5 for a non alcoholic rekorderling seems abit excessive to me
a. o.
Very nice pub with a warm, friendly feel. Staff are always helpful and welcoming. They also serve a good selection of food at a reasonable price. Can get very busy and so booking recommended if you plan to eat.
C. B.
Visited several times but not as special as it was, food took a long time to arrive, two tables sent their food back, another received the wrong order, short staffed.reduced menu, but lovely location.

It's rare to discover something new & great in an area you have visited so often. The Cuckoo is one of those places you hope to find. Great food, great service. I was delighted to be helped by Alex who made me so welcome I have booked again for tomorrow. It almost seems a shame to share this place but the team deserve to be busy all day & night. So thank you for our meal, we are coming back 👍
J. V.
Great service. Good menu with a good selection of fine food. Chips need cooking a little longer, mine were still hard but the rest of the meal was enjoyable
D. T.
Sunday roasts amazing, great portion size
Good price
Lovely place
Friendly staff
I would rate more stars if i could
Thank you
Z. B.
A popular choice for meeting up, dining etc always enjoy. Sat in a different area this evening. Everything good as usual But wasn't keen on the lighting. Low shades, bright bulbs, not relaxing & squinting to talk with colleagues :( perhaps a lower wattage? Or heighten the shades?
G. M.
Had a lovely lunch here. Sat outside in the sunshine, staff were friendly and helpful. Apparently can't book garden tables, only inside ones but we managed to get an outside one when we arrived. Lovely surroundings and excellent food.
S. R.
It was better than expected. The pub was busy especially for a tuesday evening. The service was friendly if a little lacking in technique. We call had different starters and mains which were not overly long in arriving at the table. It was hot and presented well the food taste was middle of the road but you have to expect that from this type of gastro pub.
G. M.
Short notice catch up with a friend. Booked online…turned up 10 minutes later and although busy was eating and drinking in minutes. Friendly staff and lovely food Thankyou TEAM Cuckoo 👍👍👍
R. K.
Good location for the Showground. The vegan options need refreshing soon as there’s only a limited number of times we can go for Squashsage roll and a Moving Mountains Burger.
P. J.
Lovely rustic country pub, nice outdoor seating. Great menu and drinks choice. Roasts include options for duo and trio of meats. Staff are friendly and helpful. Booking is recommended to guarantee a table to avoid disappointment but you can eat in the bar or outside. Rarely have we had issues with orders but they have been resolved quickly with no fuss.
C.
Love this place local country pub feel to it, great menu choice
C. S.
The option to book a table online, as usual good choices on the menu and very tasty food
A. B.
Lovely pub. Had a bit of a wait for food but only because it was so busy. Testament to the popularity of the place!
S. B.
Friendly staff and lovely outside seating area just off A1 so good stop off
Lost a star as ordered 2 sandwiches and as they had toasted the bread it was like eating dry toast very hard as no butter and the fish fingers were overcooked so the fish had disintegrated but its a very popular place so think we were mabey just unlucky
D. P.
Nice place with lovely garden area for eating out when suitable. Nice decor inside. Food good and well presented.
R. G.
Had a meal last wk end. The beer was in good condition, the food was great and the young woman who looked after us was very profesional.
S. C.
Great place, brilliant food, staff are so wonderfully helpful 😊
I. C.
Great food, good value, big range of drinks, buzzing atmosphere but poor inattentive service
L. F.
beautiful food. excellent customer service
J. C.
Good food. Lovely decor. As it is an old building a little cool sitting at the table but warmed up. Staff very friendly, helpful and polite. Will definitely visit again
T. R.
Me and my partner went here for a mid week meal. This is a lovely place, great atmosphere and excellent food. Staff are also very welcoming. We will definitely be making this a regular occurrence.
M. N.
Amazing staff 👏 lovely food and a wonderful atmosphere. Love visiting as my local and so does my dog.
R. M.
Great food, great service. We had a issue with fishcakes being a little burnt. The waiter instantly brought me another one and gave us a complementary desert for the trouble.
Food was lovely, well worth a visit
M. E.
Would have been 5 star if it wasn’t for the front of house service as the food was great!
We waited for a long time to have our orders taken and our drinks then arrived at nearly the same time as the starters, when we tried to order more drinks for the main they came 3/4 of the way through the meal. We also tried to get attention of one waitress and was given a bit of attitude. The food itself was amazing and would go back just for that but please organise more friendly and experienced staff in the front of house
S. P.
Beautiful pub, but food is very hit and miss. We had to send ours back to be reheated. Quality of good is usually good, but staff all seem to be youngsters new to the catering world ( this is just my impression, but experiences over several years bear this out)
J. J. S.
Fantastic place. Lunch like a dream.
L. P.
Excellent food. Lovely staff. Very comfortable surroundings. Will certainly recommend.
T. F.
Food is quality and plentiful very spacious and clean great public house
D. E.
love the outside dinning area. yummy pizza
S. G.
It's ok. Make sure you pre-book a table or else you won't get any food!
G. J.
Staff Very friendly and good choice on menu and food excellent. Charming surroundings.
P. H.
Lovely pub, good Covid19 controls in place. Staff were very polite, and professional. The food was reasonably price and really nice.
Would recommend to anyone visiting Peterborough.
W. Z.
we came here after 2 years. Beer good as always :)
G. C.
Friendly service and good Sunday lunch but no salad on the menu which disappointed one of the guests
D. J.
Great place not far from the Peterborough show ground good selection of food on offer and friendly staff
N. E.
Stopped off on the way to Newcastle and back for a small rest and a pint. Lovely place.
J. H.
Good venue, perfectly cooked steak, well kept drink and always good service.
B. B.
Excellent service and great food! Good beer garden too - will definitely return and happily recommend. 👍👌
C. R.
We arrived and heard half the staff had been pinged, but the people available, whilst rushed off their feet, were lovely and quick. Lovely wine!
Editing to add: we’ve come back a few weeks later for food and it’s just as lovely! Great roast dinner :)
T. W.
Excellent service and nothing was too much effort. Friendly staff and lovely food. Great atmosphere and one of our favourite places to go
S. A.
What a warm and welcoming place to go and eat. The staff were very polite and the place felt covid safe. I need to keep both myself and my partner covid safe as im in that minority who is vulnerable. The food was stonking although the portion could of been just that little bit bigger :-) (IM A GREEDY GIT) I will be coming back again and it wont be too long this time. Thank you for a lopvely evening.
T. L.
Took our dogs and it was heaving with other people and their dogs. The dogs were no bother at all, mine, or the others, and the food was lovely. Only thing I'd change is allowing people to smoke in the gardens while others are eating. The considerate smokers went to the roadside and were no problem but there was a small group who decided to stand together near the entrance door and they blew their smoke over everyone nearby and all near to them were trying to enjoy food. Needless to say they attracted some comments from disgruntled customers.
D. A.
Great country pub with nice beer garden. Food was excellent quality.
p. w.
Very nice meal. The Cuckoo was recommended by the hotel staff where I'm staying and was very pleased. Only a short walk from hotel. Great choice on the menu and reasonably priced.
d. b.
Lovely meal, staff were so friendly, we will be back
B. W.
I've been visiting this pub / restaurant for years. It's one of my favourites. The food is always good and there is a wide range of drinks on offer.
The last time I visited was on a Sunday lunch. The service was a little slow - but I can accept that as it was busy.
My only criticism is that the staff seemed overworked and I had to go to the bar to request the bill and pay.
I hope the management will take these comments on board and perhaps put more staff on times when they expect to be busy (weekend meal times).
W. H.
I was in the area for work and visited your pub 4 times while I was staying down the road, the welcome and service I received was excellent and friendly, the food was delicious and fairly priced, a good selection of drinks is on offer and the pub had a very warm and relaxing atmosphere, if I am ever in the area again I will definitely be coming back, thank you to all your staff who served me over the last few day
E. J.
Highly recommend, spent 2 evenings here as we were sellers in the fair, Dru was very helpful in accommodating us and we at last minute added 2 more people. The food was great and Chloe our was waitress was very polite and efficient, will definitely make reservations for our visit in October. A great place to eat and drink with excellent customer service, just a great team.
E. B.
The Cuckoo, set in a gorgeous building is one of my favourite places to eat. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the food is always amazing. It is the little things like being able to change individual items on the menu e.g. mash for new potatoes that makes all the difference. You will not be disappointed.
S. A.
Had a family Sunday lunch here. Nice food and friendly staff.
M. M.
Kirsten was the best waitress ever and exceeded my expectations by far, so attentive and giving me gorgeous Lindsey Lohan realness! Everything was catered for with precision and love. My first visit back to the Cuckoo in 2 years and it was beyond perfect thanks to Kirsten giving the best waitress service I have received

LOVELY VILLAGE PUB WITH GREAT STAFF!
This is a picturesque and beautiful pub restaurant in the lovely village of Alwalton. We now visit here on a regular basis and find the food, but more importantly the service, to be excellent. Today we were served by a lovely lady called Andruska (hope I've spelled that right) and a fantastic young man called Corey. Our visit was just lovely - the food was superb, but our visit was made so great by all staff. We have been locals to this establishment for many years (18!!) and it wasn't always so well run, but now it is our go-to place for a great meal or cosy drink out - it's just lovely. Highly recommend.
A. F.
Very cosy, rustic old place with great food. Quite a romantic setting with several open fires. It's split in two, with a bar in one half (still serving food), and a more formal restaurant half. One of my favourites in Peterborough. Now dog friendly as well, apparently.
D. T.
I was treat to a Sunday Supper by a friend. Admittedly it was a 6.30pm booking. On arrival we were told the three of the Sunday options were unavailable. Shortly after being seated, we were told that there was just one lamb and one turkey dinner left which we settle for.... or thought we had. The turkey wasn't ctually available so I had the lamb and my dinner companion ordered the Bourguinon from the menu.
Then there was no Jim Beam so a second choice of drink was needed.
Our waiter, Bailey did his very best to give good service but spent more time apologising for what we couldn't have than he did serving what we could.
The food was warm but not piping hot. Not cold though. Plenty of gravy was delivered.
Desserts were needed and they were quite good but nothing special.
Although there was a reduction on the bill, my first experience of The Cuckoo was way down on what I was expecting from such an iconic local establishment.
If it were a school report it would definitely say "Could do better".
Will I go back? I've not decided yet.
K. D.
Pretty pub serving excellent reasonably price meals recommended
S. K.
Gone several times and loved it. Part of my favourite chain of pubs dotted across the country.
I use this to meet up with family many occasions and it never disappoints.
Team are always friendly even when they clearly need more, food is always great you may need to wait but it's worth it.
Will be coming again soon to have another family catch up
J. H.
Everything on menu looked good, great service good food , nice surroundings
Would go again
D. R.
Nice place for large group gatherings. Delicious pub food. The drinks were flowing and the staff was friendly. I was a guest at a party so not enough for me to give 5 stars yet. It is a lovely venue though.
M. T.
Ive had a few not so good experiences here in the past and haven't been for about 3 1/2 years, but this visit was very much better, I won't be leaving it so long before my next visit. The staff were friendly & helpful, a good varied menu and cozy relaxed atmosphere.

Hello, I believe that the overall experience was average. The service was very average and not very attentive or engaging, without sounding harsh The server seemed like she was a little out of her depth. The drinks (Two gin and tonic specials) Did not appear to be mixed correctly as they were tasteless, Which we had to ask for another mixer to make them okay. To clarify the service was not rude at all just not very warm as we have been told it was by friends. Both my starter and my main were fantastic, couldn’t really fault the quality And saved the experience to be honest, My partners starter was cold unfortunately, and she stated her main was just okay. Front of house was very nice and polite, it’s a beautiful building as well and I’m sure our next visit at some point in the future would be better but there are improvements that could be made in my humble opinion. Many thanks.
S. B.
Came for a family birthday meal which didn't disappoint. All the food looked and tasted lovely (especially the burgers!) and the staff were attentive and friendly and made the lunch perfect. Would highly recommend 👌
R. E.
Very pleasant atmosphere, happy and amusing staff and the food was excellent.
R. B.
Always enjoy dinning there? But the service needs to be a little bit better. We had to ask for service all the time. We felt we were forgotten. Table booked for 7pm, but didn't get our first course till 8pm. During having our 1st course, they then came out with our main. We were not impressed. Had to wait another 45mins to order cofde and get it. 😏
S. Y.
The food is lovely however puddings are small and overpriced. Service friendly but extremely slow, we had to ask 3 times for a jug of water for the table. My friends go there regularly as its handy meeting place but it was my 1st time.
L. A.
I had a nice lunch with colleagues, however it was not as good as we had experienced prior to lockdown. We all had different types of sandwich but the fillings were quite sparse and not very flavoursome. There was no side salad, just sandwich and chips. To be fair side salad was not advertised but going on previous experience at the Cuckoo we wrongly expected a bit of greenery. Still a lovely setting and the food people were ordering from the main menu looked really nice.

Staff and food were top notch, great service and 5 star food

Tried to eat here last week but then covid struck. Very understanding with the cancellation so rebooked for lunch today.
Started with the CALAMARI which came with a slightly different but very tasty
saffron aioli. And the SCALLOPS which were cooked to perfection.
For the main course we had HUNTER’S CHICKEN SCHNITZEL which was delicious and a hearty BEEF BOURGUIGNON. 2 chocolate BROWNIES to finish off with a heavenly Liqueur ice cream
Excellent friendly service by Sophia who really impressed myself and my wife.
I would definitely recommend The Cuckoo as one of the best places to eat out.
S. R. (.
Pleasant pub, lovely outside area that is dog friendly. Probably best to book but we did manage to get seated quickly! Nice gin selection and easy to order using app. Friendly welcoming staff.
H. B.
Really super meal, super atmosphere and super company very relaxing with nice log fires . Definitely recommend it . Only downfall they dont accept gourmet cards and other deals since covid.
M. S.
Interesting menu, great food and friendly staff.
L. W.
Really nice evening, enjoyable food, friendly & helpful staff but generally understaffed. (Everywhere locally seems to have a similar problem where just a few staff are generally doing everything & look run off their feet.
w. w.
Food good . Staff are friendly.
Not sure l would return all bit of sticky pub, place needs updating ..
A. Y.
Great food very nice place and friendly staff happy to help 😊👍
T. W.
Nice friendly staff. Good beer and a traditional pub.
J. P.
Very attentive staff and keen on covid safety from the start.
My meal was ok but lacking in taste...l had the fishcakes.
Drinks and food were served quickly and efficiently. The loos were super clean but l prefer paper towels instead of the air heater which spreads bugs everywhere.
Overall I would happily return. The ambiance was good and parking a doddle
S. M.
Had my mum and dad's wedding dinner here. Great food, friendly staff and we had a free glass of prosecco too! Really happy!
J. D.
Good Lunch but staff seemed exhausted. Sign of the times ? Venues unable to get staff ?
K. B.
The service, food and atmosphere were superb as always
T. H.
We were traveling down from the Peak District and wanted a meal and drinks. So pleased we came across the Cuckoo, the food was good, the staff were very friendly and very attentive and the assistant Manageress was unbelievably helpful. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
D. T.
Went for lunch September '21. Very quiet compared to Pre-Covid.
Service was good and Covid Restrictions strictly adhered to.
The menu was smaller (or at least it appeared to be) than before Covid but adequate.
The food itself was excellent.
At £60.00 for two starters and two mains with a couple of drinks each it felt a bit more expensive than our last visit. Shouldn't moan I suppose as they have just emerged from a hellish period.
Will frequent again in the not too far distant future.
M. R.
The food is amazing as always we were not disappointed! Service was OK but what bothered me is that the desserts we saw on the online menu were not available and we came especially for those. I would go back for sure, and hopefully they will have a full menu available.
F. B.
Good food

Booked for Anniversary Lunch on 14/11/2021 we had Roast Beef and Belly Pork was lovely and tasty veg ,Mini Pudding and Coffee is perfect idea !!Nice friendly staff thank you
M. B.
Food great, but glassware and cutlery a little grimy.
P. M.
Great food brilliant staff. Lovely restaurant.
m. w.
Great food and friendly atmosphere , plenty of seating and great in the warmer months for a nice country outside meal and drinks
L. P.
Had an amazing time,
From the moment we stepped into the pub we had a great impression. Welcomed almost straight away and the pub was clean welcoming and cosy. Sian and dru looked after us and had a brilliant time. We had 3 courses and each was presented and cooked to perfection.
Your doing a great job and cant wait to get an opportunity to return
c. r.
Lovely atmosphere and good Sunday lunch. Bar service a bit slow, staff put table orders first, ignoring and leaving customers waiting.
C. C.
Nice cosy restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Good selection of decent quality food. Good size portions. Very dog friendly; the chef cooked up 2 chicken breasts for our dog and brought her some biscuits and a bowl of water without having to ask. Restaurant wasn't busy. Staff were very attentive. A good experience overall.
F. S.
Had a wonderful valentine's Day meal here. Good atmosphere and amazing staff customer service!
S. E.
Nice relaxed clean environment. Food was lovely and the staff were all really friendly. Would happily visit again
K. W.
Local pub, very welcoming staff and service very good despite current effects of COVID. Lovely food, plenty of choice and good beer. Bottled wine selection varied and reasonably priced. Is part of a chain (vintage inn )but feels like an independent local! Staff are always enthusiastic and make us feel like we are we the only ones there. Well done to all the team!
T. B.
Just very friendly smiley and welcoming
Good food too
Very nice atmosphere
M. I. U.
It’s a nice little place worth a visit.
S. V.
A very nice and cozy place. The staff was very friendly and the food was amazing. I would definitely recommend it.
z. y.
Fantastic pub, really lovely welcome from Aaron and his team. Pub was beautifully decorated and the food was gorgeous- definitely recommend the burgers! Really relaxed atmosphere whilst sticking to social distancing measures and hygiene. We will definitely be back again soon!
C. C.
The space is really nice. The menu is promising and the pizzas great. The steak was however nothing special and the service fairly slow. We had to ask several times for our drinks which is usually the first thing to come. Our food also took approximately 30 minutes at a time of the day which is normally not that busy (approximately 15:00) and in the end we had to ask for the bill several times and in the end get up and go find a waitress to get the bill.
L. W.
Went for our first ever meal here and was certainly not disappointed! Food was lovely, but most of all the service was fantastic, from ALL of the staff. Will certainly be visiting again very soon.
D. Y.
Lovely pub good food, staff a delight, real fire to cozy up to just off A66 near premier Inn who recommended it, 10min walk
A. T.
Lovely Sunday lunch with friends, service and food excellent
p. i. M.
Over priced, small portions and cold vegetables
M. W.
Plenty of space both indoors and outdoors. Table service was not great even drinks ordered and paid for on the app were missed off. Confusion over the bill at the end from drinks not ordered on the app which were paid for. If there is a large group of you on multiple tables my advice would be to pay as you go rather than have the headache at the end.
P. N.
Took a trip to this pub in the week before Christmas with a group of 6. We ordered a sharing platter and a side. The food took nearly an hour to arrive, but was very tasty. We also got seated next to the door, so we're frozen every time someone entered. Despite this the staff were friendly and helpful and the dessert service was fine. Ill put this down to being understaffed as everything else was excellent.
A. Q.
Myself and my friend Holli Posnett have had a fantastic evening thanks to our wonderful waiter Corey! He was absolutely brilliant and made our night! We couldn’t fault him! Will definitely be back to see him :-)
R. B.
We are fairly regular customers of the Cuckoo for food and really like the place. The food and beer are always good and the staff very friendly. However, last week has left us feeling a bit disappointed with them because, as we are both in our late seventies, we do not have or want a Smartphone. Registering for Test and Chase was ok, if a bit long winded in spite of having reserved on the website, but to be told that we could not eat outside without ordering on a phone app was very discriminatory. The person who greeted us did relent but said that it would be for this time only. This will mean that they have possibly lost our business for the whole of the summer. She also wanted to put us on a table in full sun because she needed us as close to the kitchen as possible - why?
When it came, the food was as good as it usually is.
L. G.
I ordered a prawn cocktail starter it was very middle of the road .
Lots of prawns, cocktail sauce was disappointing as was the bread.
For my main I had the roast beef.
It came well done as I ordered, and was nice. The vegetables ,well the table spoon portion was mushy and hidden beneath the beef.
Gravy nice but was on short supply. Last the cardboard Yorkshire pudding it was tasteless.
And the thimble full of horseradish sauce, overall it was a disappointing meal.
The pub itself has a nice atmosphere, and the staff are very pleasant.
It's a shame its food let it down.
M. F.
A quiet Thursday afternoon meant there was excellent service from very attentive and friendly staff. Food was of good quality despite restricted menu choices because of supply issues.
S. T.
We did have to wait a while to order but they were busy so all is forgiven. The staff were friendly and polite and the food excellent, this is our 2nd visit, it won't be our last. X
b. t.
Nice and cosy with good food. Decent size aswell
N.
Great food and friendly staff, food was a bit slow but they were fairly busy barely worth mentioning would definitely eat there again 10/10.
D. M.
Pub was recommended whilst away on work trip. Great setting and service. Traditional menu but all very enjoyable.
G. O.
It's okay.
Love the pub, it's beautiful, food last night was not tho unfortunately
j. k.
Honestly, some of the best food I’ve ever had. Friendly staff and all-round great service.
D. H.
Visit for Sunday roast in late afternoon, three courses including mini pud with hot drink. Service great, friendly and attentive. Food was great too, the pork stuffing in bacon delicious. Negatives were the huge tough lumps of carrot and the potatoes that were barely roasted and nothing like the pictures on the website. But we will try again. We were seated near very noisy families, but in future we can request more peace and quiet when booking.
P. B.
Really charming country style pub that is fantastic for both summer and winter. Great selection of beers and other drinks, food has improved massively over the years and the staff look after you well.
S. S.
I'm always used to top notch service here, it just wasn't yesterday. Food came out and we had to wait over 5 mins for the cutlery to come out, In fact you forgot one of the side orders, acknowledged it and then it still didn't come out and I had to come to you, it wasn't even that busy! As I said, it is usually top notch, good food and good staff, just not what I'm used to when I was there yesterday
J. “. W.
Good pub food, the house burger was great! The duo of lamb is excellent as is the banoffee pir
J. B.
This is a Vintage Inn group pub. It has a great atmosphere with the leather seats and well laid out bar area. Kind of wished it was our local. Stayed to eat and the food was top tier. Had a meat feast pizza and it was probably one of the best I’ve had in a restaurant, really well balanced dough and intensely flavoured toppings. Chips could have been handmade but good all the same. The waiter was very good and knowledgeable about the food, sadly the main was a little slow but it was a Saturday night. Forgiven due to the quality of the food.
S. P.
Excellent food, service could be quicker but the staff were friendly and helpful and we wasn't in a rush so no problem for us.
G. W.
Amazing experience
I would just like to say. With everything that is going on at the moment with this covid 19. The efforts of the staff should be something to be proud of. We visited yesterday on a off chance while out on a bike ride. To be welcomed with a friendly service and extremely professional attitude to social distance cleanliness and hygiene. But this did not stop the staff from being warm and friendly. Would highly recommend this to anyone. You should be very very proud. Top marks.
R. O.
Cracking pub/restaurant, stuck in travelodge 15 minutes walk away, well worth the walk. Lovely food, friendly staff
A. M.
Had a great meal. Amazing slow cooked beef. They do a fabulous Sunday roast. Great service cannot fault them, friendly staff.
e.
Possibly the only decent restaurant in the area where I was staying for work. A very cozy and laid back place where I felt very comfortable dining on my own. Visited on a football night, and as I was not interested in the football game, I was happy to find out that there were areas in the restaurant that you could have a nice quiet dinner without being affected by the game and the fans. There was a TV available in one of the rooms but it was not dominating the whole restaurant. Very nice seating areas, all spread out which give sufficient privacy to all. Nice outdoor area too.
A bit disappointed that most fish dishes on the menu are fried and those that were not were not available. The second time I visited the place, I was told that it would take about an hour for the food to come out. I appreciated the honesty as I was allowed to decided if I was willing to wait or not.
J. T.
Very nice looking place both inside and out and the main menu dishes are excellent. I was a little disappointed by the pudding (apple & sticky toffee sponge) and the decaf coffee I had with it - by comparison they were both a little insipid - but perhaps that is because the chicken and thyme pie was so incredible! Will definitely go back. The staff are pleasant and helpful.
L. J.
We had a roast lunch it was nice but the roast potatoes where a bit tough to cut thinking it was standing then heated up and it wasn't that hot either.
S. M.
I love the cuckoo. Staff are so friendly, food is delicious and well priced and a lovely choice of both food, snacks and drinks. I also love the fact the bar is dog friendly!!
N. Q.
From the outside the pub doesn't look much different from many other village pubs. Inside is a different story. We went specifically to eat but the bar is well stocked with a variety of real ales.
Once seated our waitress was attentive and the food arrived in good time. The menu is good and the food well prepared and tasty. Good value for the money paid.
C. B.
Lovely old pub with comfortable seating both indoors and out. A good menu and not overly priced.
Downside is the cutlery, sauces etc are in a small cupboard if seating outside and whilst you get these your food is going cold and is open to the magpies and rooks.
Moral - get your cutlery as soon as you order your food.
A. N.
Lovely atmosphere and fantastic food. I've tried their brownie fudge - it's to die for! Loved the cozynes and ambience of the place and prices are also reasonable. Not sure if they have the accessible toilets as the one I've visited required me to get on few steps. Worth to call them to make sure before visiting if you have a problem with mobility.
D.
Very nice ambiance, comfortable seating and with friendly staff. Food was well cooked and enjoyable. The only negative was the prices were a little on the high side.
J. P.
Brilliant food and great staff!!!
D. H.
Great food and very friendly staff we felt very welcome
N. B.
Food was delicious. Staff were friendly, helpful and helped us enjoy a lovely family meal. Alex was wonderful.
J. M.
At this price point it was nothing special. The food appeared fairly quickly and the vegetables were not overcooked but also not over generous either. Some of the items were not that hot. The steak in the so called slow cooked pie was rather tough. The real ale was disappointing at first I thought it was me not liking them but they had Adnams Ghost Ship on which I have always enjoyed before but here it seemed to have a metallic tang to it that was not pleasant. The staff were friendly and the service fairly efficient. But at just over £50 for 2 there are a lot better places to visit.
R. M.
Visited here many times before covid and then again this monday. Wonderful food, great social distancing put in place, we sat outside with plenty of space between the tables. Service was very quick and polite, really lovely servers. Menu is obviously limited at the moment but there's still a good choice of options, looking forward to coming again!
K. F.
Management were very kind and understanding of our needs.
R. W.
A clean friendly pub with food. Not the biggest menu but still what looked like good food coming out. We called Thursday lunch time. I did want food but they said it would be at least a 45min wait. Time was not on our side. The down side was we wanted a quiet area so sat outside. The tables were very wet from morning rain and needed drying off. Not enough staff to do it. If there had been 4 stars would have been 5.
G. C.
An attractive, comfortable & friendly stop for lunch just a few hundred yards from the A1 north of Peterborough. Real ales in a well stocked bar. Nice menu. We had light bites in the bar area, which arrived quickly and very well presented. The restaurant looked excellent. The only criticism was the gents lavatory was surprisingly smelly.
T. E.
Had a nice Sunday lunch, unfortunately didn't the veggie roast which was a shame. Staff were friendly but lacking in experience.
K. L.
Possibly the best bit now belly pork I've ever had. Service was a bit below par, tho I suspect this could ha e been due to covid caution
I. M.
Stunning food great service and go above and beyond.
Really nice atmosphere
l. f.
The food was ok. It came out warm/cool, staff replaced items that were really too cold to eat.
No sauces brought when asked, when we wanted to speak to someone about the poor food it took over 10 mins to come, which then left 1 person eating alone as the food had to be replaced. Desserts were offered complementary, which were appreciated but just a real shame that the one time we all get chance to get away from work/our business, we were left feeling disappointed.
M. T.
Definitely make a reservation, as they're very popular and busy on Fridays and weekends. The staff were lovely considering how busy they all were - plenty of time to talk and look after you. The food was lovely as always. Would recommend for a lovely dinner out!
S. B.
Great food, excellent selection of drinks. Log fires and a nice beer garden
J. S.
It is over rated and very dear and the staff can't get bookings right some of the food is average and could be hotter and the flatbread was brunted should never served and six chips is not a portion size and side salad with no dressing and not big enough and if you join them you get a free pudding when you order a main course but did not get it so it is a bit of a con
L. C.
Yet another fantastic meal, myself and my husband had the Lasagna and it is the best we’ve ever had. Becky served us today, she is very polite and a lovely young lady 😊. Please thank your chef for yet another great meal.
S. R.
Pleasant place but nothing too special. Toilets barely a 5/10. Three of my party had the salmon, which was ok, but just not cooked through and not hot enough. We all left the sauce.
S. W.
Back again to our favourite restaurant. As always excellent service from all staff and our waitress Kirsty was very much appreciated with her knowledge of recommendations. This was our 4th visit here. Portion sizes more than adequate. Presentation spot on. Lovely atmosphere. And good value for money. Thankyou for such a lovely evening. Nothing to fault.
M. S.
Booked a table for 16, a mix of adults and children for Sunday lunch. Being so many of us we were asked to pre-order our mains which wasn't a problem. Food was lovely, service was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.
J. G.
Loved this place. I would recommend booking in advance at weekends as it is very popular. Although, we didn't book and the lovely staff managed to find us a table on the Saturday and the Sunday (yep, we went again the next day.) The food is lovely and not over priced, and the service was very quick for the number of people that they had eating there. Saying that though, I would've have happily waited as the food was that good.
Lovely traditional looking building which suits the location and friendly, warm staff inside. All in all a great place that's definitely worth a visit. I would definitely recommend ☺
P. F.
Went for daughters birthday treat, total confusion over free prosecco email took 5 different people to sort. Desserts nice but mains small for the price and mushy peas promised with fish and chips turned out to be garden peas rather disappointingly. Nice space and garden area but overpriced for what you get.
M. T.
AWe had our wedding reception here for 24 guests and we couldn't fault the service provided. The food came out hot, the time between courses was just right, the staff were friendly and attentive. I would have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant to anyone.
R. W.
Lovely authentic old pub. Huge choice on menu & vegan menu. Slight niggle, no alternative to milk yet (19/1/2020) but they are working on it.
Wheelchair accessible although care needs to be taken due to genuine stone paving. You'll need to ask for a key to the accessible toilet unless you have an NKS key
P. D.
I have now visited twice sine the lifting of Lock-down restrictions.
the pub is well laid out to enable social distancing and the there is hand sanitiser available in various locations around the pub.the staff have been brilliant, very friendly and welcoming and professional in the approach to dealing with the social distancing regulations. The food was hot and fresh, with the real ale as good as it always had been.
i think the staff are doing a fantastic job of running the place, especially considering the current legislation and restrictions. Keep up the good work 'Team Cuckoo'
Highly Recommended
S. M.
Food was average, was expecting much better. Service was ok. Very busy, good atmosphere.
s. m.
Fabulous meal, excellent service
L. v.
Beautiful garden and dog friendly. Had a lovely meal whilst at the dog show over the road and all the staff were very accomodating with our many dogs and fellow show visitors. Thank you all for making the end of our weekend a pleasant one. Shall certainly return
A. B.
This place was fabulous in regard to the food the staff and service. The fact that they allow you to take a dog into the bar restaurant with you was an extra for a dog lovers who struggle to get a dog sitter for whatever reason.
C. S.
Xmas meal with parents. We don't normally do 3 courses as find too much but after 2 courses here we wish we had as still felt hungry after main and pud. No enough veg we had a bowl for three of us. Also meal wasn't very warm and served by staff in jeans. Not impressed won't be returning
A. M.
What a lovely evening we had with our friends. The staff with Covid-19 in mind were brilliant, nothing was to much trouble. The food was superb, helped with a beautiful red wine.
J. W.
Had a lovely dinner ..Prawn&Lobster cocktail.. followed by beautifully cooked Sea bass..mmmmm..lovely atmosphere. Warm welcome..partners Rib eye steak exactly as he asked for it to be cooked..Have been back several times..looking forward to the next time..
T. L.
Apologies, I'm not sure why I had voted 3 stars. I spend a lot of time at your pub and enjoy it a lot. I have adjusted my review accordingly. It's a lovely pub, lovely food and a great drink selection... always served with a smile!
S. R.
A well presented fourth style pub with a beautiful beer garden. The 3 course week day meal is a very reasonable price and food is of a good standard, particularly the creme brulee! The staff were happy and helpful and we will be coming back again.
J. H.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, the food and service were great. All in all highly recommended.
L. M.
Wow!! What a great find!!!. Fantastic rump steak beautiful garden area . Interior gorgeous lots of lovely nices restaurant area available too....
We were staying at Days inn... This great place is fab and not too far away...
Very friendly staff nothing too much trouble...
We returned for a 2nd night to eat and we were kindly remembered.
I wish I lived nearer.
Weekend Fri Sat night 2 courses £22pp inc a bottle of wine.... Great fantastic environment and place....
Don't worry top of the list and we will be back..
I've even taken cards and recommended to other delegates.

Y. M.
Very pleasant, food very good, staff all very good, we have booked our exmas meal, a family day out
M. K.
Very nice meal. staff really friendly. Reasonable prices a pleasure to meet friends there. Thank you very much, good recommendation. We will be there again. How we have managed not to find this place until now goodness knows. Thank you again.
V. F.
As a family we had a meal at the cuckoo tonight my son in law couldn't eat his duo of beef it was one lump of fat on the bone and no meat my grandson had a fly cooked in the pitza topping, we told the staff they were very good and took the two meals off the bill but it shouldn't of happened. We have eaten here many times before and always been satisfied .The kitchen shouldn't send food out like this .front of house staff excellent.
S. B.
popped in for a spur of the moment midweek lunch. Meat feast pizza was possibly the best pizza I've eaten. Great fennel taste and really fresh onion chutney. Serving with a pizza wheel was a great touch. Ordered chips on the side, merely average but I totally didn't need them anyway!
E. M.
We love The Cuckoo and use it often for a range of occasions.. tonight we visited for our 25th Wedding Anniversary (our holiday to Menorca was cancelled). We used the Vintage Inn's app to book and added we would like a secluded table if possible as it was our anniversary. we were met by the manager/licencee Aaron.. he had obviously read and noted the booking as he congratulated us, commiserated about our cancelled holiday and swiftly bought us our drinks, we were then looked after very well by Alex.. she was friendly, efficient and welcoming without rushing us. The food as usual was delicious... (we have recently been to Suffolk and visited another Vintage Inn restaurant a couple of times. the menu is the same so we have been going through different dishes)... tonight we really enjoyed the soup (potato, leek and stilton and one ministrone).. then a bourgogne and one fish and chips (my hubby loves his fish and chips..but is quite hard to please.. he really enjoyed his meal tonight).I enjoyed my filling and delicious bourgogne. Hubby then had space for a Banofee pie (goodness knows how.. I was full!) He asked for a serving of pouring cream to go with it and this was no problem at all. we weren't in Menorca, sitting in a sun drenched marina surrounded by bustling bars and restaurants, drinking in the heat, sun sights and smells... but we did the next best thing and visited The Cuckoo with its rustic charm, delicious food and charming, friendly, welcoming and efficient hosts and team. we would definitely recommend. 5 * Thank you.
S. O.
My three sisters in law were visiting from America and Ireland. We all met up in Peterborough and The Cuckoo was recommended to us. We had a beautiful long Sunday lunch. Food was excellent well cooked and presented. Staff were pleasant and efficient. Lovely place for us all to meet and eat.
W. P.
Good food great atmosphere friendly staff good service
P. P.
Great gastro pub, and have returned and recommended many times to friends and family as the food is so good!
J. H.
Lovely staff. Had a Sunday roast. Best beef I've ever eaten. Highly recommend.xx
I. M.
Advertised as dog friendly but only 7 tables in the bar were dog friendly. Pub is huge but most people sat in the bar without dogs so we only just got a table. Food average. Chips not crispy. Lobster fishcakes mainly potato. 2 small pieces of broccoli and a few small potatoes. Quite expensive for a very average meal.
R. H. R.
The cuckoo restaurant is a great place to eat. The ambiance is majestic, the food is delicious and the furniture inside is the perfect decor for any occasion with searing for about 50 persons. The space outside is second to none, several huge trees offering shade, comfortable with seating for approximately another 50 persons as well. The service was excellent and price was reasonable. I would recommend the cuckoo for any occasion.
d. k.
Food was fantastic , staff couldn’t do enough for us. Brought water for the dog 🐕 to. Busy but still happy to help. Wish we lived nearer will definitely come back. Grant and his team are 5 star ⭐️ ps great value for money to .
J. H.
Date night pub restaurant, good reasonably priced food. Lovely old building. Definitely my favourite in and around Peterborough.
C. C.
Lovely staff, reasonable value for money, portion size was lacking as well as vegetables in some meals. Onion rings were particularly poor. Overall nice evening in a great setting would go again.
M. C.
Nice pub, lovely food and the Sunday lunch service was good. I had Sunday roast with lamb shank and my wife had the trio of meats - Turkey, beef and pork. We both very much enjoyed the lunch.
G.
Fantastic food and nice staff would go again and again 😁
M. L.
Mitchell was superb - the barman & all the staff who spoke to me that evening.
P. L.
Lovely pub with good food.
T. B.
What a lovely find. Staying in Peterborough and the sat nav got us lost. Had to call to get directions.
Food was well seasoned and hot. Had a mini dessert and coffee to end the meal. Good atmosphere, a 50th birthday party group was finishing as we started our meal. Really nice restaurant for a good family or couples meal out.
M. G. (.
The cuckoo is a great local pub which serves great food in a beautiful setting ideal for a nice weekday dinner, business lunch or Sunday roast. I would love to say I could not fault this place but it's one big let down and one which frustrates me endlessly is the service or lack of.
The staff are friendly, very knowledgeable and when your get one very helpful but It seems the place is understaffed everything I am there, normally waiting 5 to 10 minutes to place an food or drinks order at a busy bar, not due to lazy staff just down to lack of staff.
Great in every aspect bar this one, and if it changes and more staff are at hand for the patrons then this will swiftly go to a 5 star rating.
C. O. M.
This place is really quaint. The beauty of the design and furniture speak for themselves. The food is really good! And the atmosphere is very relaxed and the servers are super friendly. I enjoyed my dinner here a lot 😊😊.
C. T.
Loved the vegetarian flan. All food presented nicely. We ate outside in the gardens. Friendly and efficient service. Good selection of beers
J.
Unfortunately they ran out of steaks due to high demand so i settled with the bbq chicken. I am not disappointed! Great food and fantastic staff! Even my gf was happy and enjoyed the meal! Date night was a succes!
S. L.
Second visit here. Food perfect as always. Top marks to the staff for not only being open, but also following the guidelines.
Better vegetable side options would have been nice, however in the current climate this completely understandable.
J. M.
Had a fab lunch there yesterday and was blown away by the wonderful buildings within the grounds of The Cuckoo. Beautifully set dining areas and the staff were very attentive. However, I was disappointed, on being handed the menus, to then be given quite a list of meals that were no longer available, one of which was a simple beetroot salad! After browsing the menus for a while my friend and I made our choices to then be told that they were also now off the menu! I would love to go back to The Cuckoo but would definitely suggest that you phone on the day to ensure that the whole menu is available. Very misleading!
A. C.
We visited Peterborough to meet up with friends. Had lunch on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it so booked for an evening meal which was even better so had Sunday dinner before saying goodbye to our friends. The staff are friendly and efficient and the meals were beautiful. We'll be back next year .
S. F.
Just back from a long lunch .... food was awesome ... the onion ring batter oh please wrap some fish in that stuff my partner not a fan of onion rings but demolished them all. Steaks perfect. Great atmosphere no rush best lunch ever ... now sofa snooze time then back for dinner lol
V. B.
Lovely food and friendly service
C. L.
Normally rate it hogher but yesterday food was average and service the same. The chargrilled childrens veg scewers tasted of burnt. Put my kids off veg as opposed to enjoying it. I had a lovely burger however and the building is lovely.
M. M.
Just got home lovely meal
Staff really friendly and helpful.
Food was lovey.
The only down fall was the lettuce leafs on the plate were limp and not as fresh as we hoped otherwise can't fault it.
R. H.
Lovely village pub. Not too expensive, delicious food. I recommend the slow cooked beef bourguignon.

Having been here last week I was very dissatisfied with the service. Took an age to order and even longer to come out. But things were very different this time. More attentive staff, very efficient, best food locally and quick service. Recommend coming before 6:30 and ordering straight away.

Decided to go out for our first meal after lockdown and chose the cuckoo. As per usual the food was loverly the staff were excellent and we felt secure in the environment with the measures they had put in place for covid 19. However the reason for 3 stars is this, the pub states on the Web site that it is dog friendly in the bar area fine no problem, but in the restaurant on the table opposite a women had her dog on her knee with its front paws on the table barking randomly through out our meal.
As you can imagine not only did this ruin our experience but in the current situation of covid 19 is this really the correct thing to do we are all trying to do our bit.
So come on the cuckoo please don't let this happen again or I will not be coming back neither will people I know. Hygiene hygiene hygiene.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere, and fantastic food 😁

Very busy, we were sat very close to another table. Service was okay and the food was mediocre. Party of 4 and the general feeling was it was okay. Not the cheapest of restaurants and be prepared to be stung on the drinks.
W. D.
Popped in for a spot of Sunday lunch. Lovely pub with a great menu, Sunday lunch was perfect!
l. c.
Lovely meal although they did appear to be short staffed. Everyone was very friendly will definitely return🍽

Lovely place, friendly staff. The food not so lovely. Starters were absolutely spot on but the mains were a huge let down. The so called Yorkshire puddings were incorrectly made, stale leftovers from the day before, so much so I had to utilise the water from the cabbage to soften it up. The company being so named Vintage Inns is quite poignant considering the Yorkies were of 'Vintage' quality, stale.
Our dinners were cold within a couple of minutes suggesting again not freshly cooked food else had been sitting under a heat lamp as the mains arrived with 90 seconds of the starter dishes being taken away.
This is my second and final visit to a Vintage Inns establishment. The first was the Fitwilliam at Marholm and that too suffered from culinary incompetence. I cannot recommend this place and based on 2 Vintage Inns I cannot say go to one near you.

I have just returned from taking my parents out for a fathers day meal. We booked a table for midday and were seated promptly by welcoming staff. The 3 course meal off the fathers day menu was fantastic, hot, tasting and filling. All 3 of us would like to thank David, our waiter for his attention and polite manner. To Luke, many thanks for a memorable experience of which we would highly recommend "The Cockoo".

nice looking place inside but it was really let down by its food. Had to keep Jacket on i
n bar area as it was cold. had three meals, callamari starter: nice flavour way over cooked. mains - turkey burger, cooked well but very burnt bun and hunters chicken, dry chicken also very over cooked and dry. the products seemed good quality just a shame they wernt cooked to a good standard, but he staff where very friendly and welcoming.

Great food and service. Shame playes weren't watmed

I've been to the Cuckoo on several occasions, normally for coffee with my dogs after a long walk..Staff always polite and friendly.. We went for a cold drink last week when it was quite warm,I was shocked by their prices..A bulmers was over £4 which was ok..But a pineapple and lemonade was £5 !! It was cheaper to drink alcohol then a soft drink..Not value for money that's for sure...
M. E.
Great meal Good value especially with 40% off mains thanks
M. 6.
Very nice place to spend your afternoon with friends. A bit dry lamb, but overall experience very good!
G. C.
I've only put 4 stars for one reason and it's not the wonderful food, it's not the great atmosphere either. I've visited a number of times and on a number of occasions my first choice from the menu has not been available, not a big deal and I wish I could put 4.5 stars.
K. H.
Very relaxed and Inviting, had the hunters chicken. Very nice, but I wanted a fillet steak and they didn't have any. Despite it being on menu. Or rib eye my second option.

Lovely place to eat.
Staff are lovely
Food excellent

Would love to have a charming village pub like this. Slowish bar service but good food, relaxed garden area, and very reasonable pricing. Useful for somewhere to eat while we were staying round the corner in the Travelodge.
I.
Very lovely place, good atmosphere, good food.
J. A.
We had a wonderful meal at the Cuckoo, even though it was early it was really busy, but they kindly made a space for us.
I hadn't been here for a while, but as always, the meal was superb as was the service. I would highly recommend the Cuckoo.

went on friday evening 29th June 2012 had table for 2 booked for 7.30. Arrived about 7.20 and decided to have olives etc before going to table, waited at least 5 minutes at bar before we were served and then had to wait 15 minutes before we got the olives. When we went to table we placed our order and then waited 40 minutes before food arrived and when it did it was barely warm, informed waitress who said she would tell chef but we did not get any further response. Food was very mediocre for the price and we will not be returning. Service was terrible!!
N. M.
3/4 of hour and we had a two course meal with drinks just felt rather rushed. Once the starter had gone they came straight back with the mains
A. E.
Lovely meal really enjoyed it
G. R.
Nice food. Good to see the cuckoo has survived 👍 Well worth a visit. Remember to book as it's very popular.

Just had a really lovely meal here and would definitely visit again when in the area. Easy to book on-line and menu to suit all tastes. First class friendly professional service.
S. J.
Very good quality food and definitely above that you would expect to find in a pub. Thoroughly recommend
A. H.
Lovely place fish and chips need to be crispyier . Chip texture very dry triple cooked not my favourite
j. f.
A truly wonderful place to enjoy drinks and great quality food, wonderful village location and smiling helpful staff
L. A.
Lovely looking pub in the village of Alwalton. Went as part of a group and we all had different meals. I went for the fish finger sandwich which was on a white rustic roll with tartare sauce.
It was okay but just a bit bland. Adding something like a minted pea sauce here instead of the tartare would make all the difference. It comes with fries. Both were also a bit cold which didn't help ☹️
Staff were great though.
S. E.
Had a 3 course meal with work, all delicious and very responsibly priced. Nice looking pub to eat in as well. Would visit again.
N. T.
Absolutely lovely Sunday lunch, the pork just melted in your mouth, definitely worth paying a visit to
A. A.
It's a lovely local pub with enormous garden. Pizzas looked great but my steak was not that good. Definitely go for pizza. Good selection of beers

O. N.
A pleasant evening dinner with friends.
The app was a bit tricky to order from, but when we mentioned it to staff, they came to our table to take the order.
R. D.
Looks very nice and big pub. Was quite busy which is always a good sign. We had some fries with our beer - they were very greasy. So i guess the food is not top noch here
S. W.
Meal was excellent also staff very helpful will definitely visit again
L. R.
Enjoyed a really nice lunch here. Staff were friendly and accommodating - really good service - and the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Recommended.

Came Saturday night 17th March booking was in my Partners name John Malkin we love the Cuckoo food was fantastic and staff and service brilliant. The only fault we had was where we were sat, right next to the door was a freezing cold night and we ended up been very cold especially John as he feels the cold more than me with what he has been through. We can't help the weather and certainly can't help people walking in and out. We could have asked to be moved but it was busy so didnt like. Didnt stop us enjoying our food, we just won't sit there in the winter anymore...😍
A. M.
It's a nice pub. But was disappointed with the Sunday lunch
L. B.
Good homely pub grub. Fair prices. A few very nice wines at reasonable prices. Good beer selection. Ok atmosphere. Very canny staff. Perfect for a down to earth, cosy, winter business dinner.
D. S.
Excellent service and food. Thanks Maya!

We had a very nice time at the Cuckoo today. We intended just to walk the dogs and have a drink, but ended up have a lovely meal and dessert too.
T. G.
Meals very good lovely atmosphere and service and staffs were very pleasant. my daughter's favourite restaurant.
J. P.
First outing after lockdown no3. Good service. Kitchen now closes at 19:30, last drinks served at 20:45
R. “. D.
Very well presented menu, traditional feel and a very poplar place. Just off the A1 👍
D. P.
Quiet drinks on a Wednesday evening. The venue is lovely however the swearing and shouting coming from the kitchen let the place down. I think someone in the kitchen thinks they're Gordon Ramsey.
A. H.
We absolutely love this pub, delicious food and amazing location. They have a very nice beer garden. Our family's favourite
C. P.
Friendly staff some are young but working hard nice food sparse on veg
S. G.
Nice surroundings and the food was nice
S. B.
A wonderful boxing day lunch. We took my 87 year old mother and the staff were incredibly kind to her. The food was excellent. Thank you.
T. B.
A regular haunt for all the large local businesses moreso than residents. The service is friendly but relatively slow. The prices are laughable but I imagine this is how they stay in business. In the summer there is a horrendous wasp problem so be prepared to duck and dive. If you're allergic avoid at all cost in the pollen months.
G. M.
Such a lovely place with a beautiful garden! Lovely staff and nice atmosphere. We enjoyed our time there and we'll definitely come back.
J. N.
Great staff. Food was delicious. Nice beer garden.
S. A.
Ok for lunch. Tad expensive for what it was.
L. M.
Great place to go for a relaxed meal. Friendly, great service all round, and excellent food. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
S. O.
This is our favourite place for a spot of food and a great beer. Friendly staff and excellent service. The building is also beautiful!
E. V.
Slightly expensive food and the quality is alright, but the atmosphere is wonderful. Good beers and nice burgers. The baked salmon was a bit bland but overall not bad.
R. D.
For anyone who likes a good pub, get yourselves down there! I stumbled over this place quite by accident and I am glad I did. Well cellared ale. Excellent food too. Stop and discover it for yourselves.
E. P.
Great pub food! Nice beer garden with excellent space outside. Dog friendly!
T. P.
The food is amazing. Very nice outside area too and service is good. Had the homemade fishcakes and they were very yummy. Dog friendly too.
A. D.
Good quality food, just expect a wait for the food when they are busy.
Good surroundings, friendly staff.
R. S.
Often a choice for a pint with friends due to the fantastic beer garden and warm atmosphere. Also a great place for a meal, lunch or dinner. A gorgeous, picturesque location very enjoyable experience.

S. E.
Had a great night here, reserved an area for a work party and staff were really helpful to arrange a pre-order of food and drino so it was all ready when we arrived and tasted great! Perfect cosy atmosphere
S. M.
This pub restaurant is a good place to eat, but sometimes, you will have to relax and just wait for your meal to arrive. Sometimes busy, sometimes quite, just depends on the time you arrive to order your meals.
W. T. D.
A good old-fashioned pub that is functioning well in the 21st century, doing good trade every day of the week. The beer is well-kept and the food is quite good. There's a garden too.
B. H.
Food wasn't overly hot had to send gravy back was cold..and really don't know how or why they do the bill like they do????
j. g.
Great staff, lovely atmosphere
P. R.
Food was first class, we were well away from other diner's in a lovely setting which is important in these Covid times, will definitely be going back 😀

Lovely setting and very attentive staff but no light meals for lunch. We had a starter instead
D. E.
Great food and drink, polite staff and plenty of parking .

T. H.
Went for Sunday lunch with my daughter and grandchildren. Absolutely delicious meal. Friendly staff and great service.
A. J.
Staff are knowledgeable, efficient and personable. Food is tasty and varied menu.
G. P.
Fantastic family friendly Sunday lunch! Everybody made welcome including the veggie, the dog and the really fussy ejit in our party! Staff were brilliant!
Z. A.
Nice range of beers, including a couple of local brews. Bit sloppy on food service as food arrived at other tables well before ours did, despite ordering long before them.
A. C.
A fantastic little village pub with great staff and a great range of drinks. I was invited down by a friend who was staying in the area and the food was excellent and what was included for the price was very good. I shall deffinately return when I'm in the area.

Driving from standsted to Leeds today and dropped in for a meal. Best choice of the day. Really good Sunday lunch, nice staff in a really nice atmosphere.
J. D.
Very charming venue, with excellent food and brilliant table service. Highly recommended.
D. S.
Very disappointing and very expensive - lack of choice for a Vegan diet - also have tried to make reservation for twelve peeps for Christmas Day lunch twice but no one responds to request.
S. B.
Great food, great staff. A very comfortable meal. Would highly recommend.
