Reviews of The Gog and Magog - JD Wetherspoon
r. j.
Located in the Barbican easily missed as the entrance is near the famous gin distillery this is a typical value for money venue. Very noisy rowdy crowd in the small front courtyard but this is to be expected. The usual clean modern bathrooms and effective app table service and exceptional value for money food although they missed the mango chutney with the curry and the naan bread was burnt, however we are only human!

A Wetherspoon's is a Wetherspoon's wherever we have been and each one offers a reasonable fare of food and drink for a reasonable price. Just occasionally you come across one of their better characteristics of the company. The restoration of many a fine establishment that may have fallen by the wayside for some reason. I'm not sure if this building will comes into that category as this is our first, and only visit, to this establishment.
An all round pleasant ambience as we sat and enjoyed our reasonably priced drinks, we didn't sample the food as time was against us. But yet another Wetherspoon's on our travels, and like them all, upto now, a pleasant experience. Toilet facilities were fine, my wife assured me that the ladies was clean and tidy, and we would have liked to stay longer, but we were a long way from home.
P. H.
We couldn't visit Plymouth without giving the local Wetherspoon'a try and what a good pub this is. Set in the old quarter of town, not far from where the pilgrims left for American hundreds of years ago, The Gog and Magog stocks some excellent draught and bottled beers as well as a great selection of gins. Located on South Street, don't pass by without putting your head through the door.
R. W.
It's a weatherspoons, food was OK ish, wife had a chicken, bacon and cheese, less the chicken.... also not overly hot..
But it's a weatherspoons.. not a gourmet pub..
Not bad... but could be better..
t.
Typical spoons what more can I say, bit of a treck to the toilets but just like most places. Staff were great in bringing me my missing item from my breakfast even when I didn't notice it missing
K. D.
Never had a bad meal in Spoons but had to mention the steak dinner I had yesterday. Absolutely beautiful! Perfectly cooked as was my hubby’s mixed grill. Always worry about having steak but really fancied it. So glad I did. Compliments to the chef👍🏻
H. W.
Really like Weatherspoons establishments, and this one is one of the best. The pub was clean and well presented despite being at the end of a busy day.
There's plenty of choice on the menu with something for everyone, especially vegetarians and vegans.
Food was well cooked and tasty.
Finally the staff were so so friendly and really made our visit.
D. T.
Just your normal spoons pub. Not bad. Would've rated it 4 stars but it's always so busy you can never sit and relax with mates or family for a pint. Needs more seating area because of the high demands of the public.
S. J.
Excellent afternoon spent, lovely staff on. Great value drinks and food, had the sirloin steak offer with drink £ 10.05p. Lovely steak, only criticism came with loveley chips but nothing else, no tomatoe onions or peas, though at £10.05p maybe not worth the comment, just would also add colour to dish.
B.
I often visit here on a Sunday afternoon after walking from home. I can come and go as I please as a single person and no judgement is made. Good staff levels, fairly clean, limited seats outside but a lovely Wetherspoons.
A. R.
Great bar in a fantastic location. Gets rather busy Thursday to Sunday, plenty of tables, little or no 4g which is ideal but there is free WiFi for the desperate internet users..
Can get rather rowdy on weekends, but generally a pleasant bar....
L. S.
Tucked away in a nice part of town.
Not a bad "spoons"
D. M.
One of the best spoons I've had the chance to visit. Authentic and a bit upper class than most. Enjoyed sitting outside on a warm summers evening
A. V.
I have been here twice and both times havent been lucky with the meals, either they made mistake with my order (they give me chips instead of rice ) and the lemon herbs Chicken was overcooked and dry. The second time i found out the meal wasnt great either
S. C.
Good position in Barbican area tucked away a bit, staff friendly. Food good went in afternoon before 5 pm had a discount off some meals good atmosphere can recommend.
M. H.
Always a welcome and happy place with fast and friendly service
P. G.
You know what you're getting with a Weatherspoons but this one is pretty decent. Friendly staff, plenty of seating and toilets that aren't a 4 mile walk away. Would visit again.
J. M.
Nice little Wetherspoons pub set back from Southside Street on Plymouth's Barbican.
The food was good and obviously you can have as many hot drinks as you want so it's a good cheap place to while away some time, especially if it's a little chilly out.
P. M.
What can you say... you just can't beat a wetherspoons. Great prices, good range of Ales, and good food 👌. And in a historical part of Plymouth.
S. L.
Nice bar, great meals, friendly staff and a good selection of food and drinks to choose from.
A. Y.
Quick order times off app, service without a smile... typical weatherspoons. Would return :)
i. c.
Clean and tidy. Good service good selection of beer including real ale
T. A.
Not a great experience this time. But I accept it was pretty busy on a very sunny day. So I'm sorry if this seems negative. The empty table we found was clear but some what sticky . We managed to order food quite promptly which is always a plus but when it arrived mine was in between cold and warm . After a busy day I just couldn't be bothered to question it so on this occasion that was my fault although I shouldn't really have had to bring it to anyone's attention . It was a simple choice from the menu and relatively easy to get right. I've had it many times but afraid on this occasion
Weatherspoons failed to meet my expectations. Will I return ... Probably because it's cheap and cheerful .
P.
We went in for lunch, we both had gammon, egg and chips with mushroom, tomato and peas. We opted for a soft drink and the total bill was £15.
Service was good as was the meal.
B. W.
Excellent wetherspoons, slightly set back from the road - look for the signs on the walls leading in. Great space, value, and service. A top option if on the Barbican.
G. S.
Went for breakfast,no eggs due to bird flu but enjoyed the extra hash browns in place of the eggs.Lol.
B. M.
Called in for breakfast but no eggs due to bird flu and no fruit for the porridge. Other than that it is a typical Wetherspoons.
K. G.
Its a wetherspoons, so good service cheap food and drink is a given, friendly staff and interesting location
b. W.
Very reasonable, good quality food, and friendly helpful staff, and an excellent range of beer 🍺 🍻 highly recommended for afternoons. 👍
A. H.
Great hidden weatherspoons just set back from the harbour.save your self some money and eat and drink here. You know what your getting. No frills but great value. Usual sticky tables and getting ready for a refreshes as it's so over used.
P. J.
Only had breakfast, but fast service and polite about no toast and helped with all our needs. Will go again.
J. A.
Great location on The Barbican. However, does get very busy and acoustics not good causing lots of noise
G. W.
Good beer and price.good staff and friendly, my last review said drunk students, well I am pleased to say that in general things have changed. We go there a lot for breakfast, occasional lunch, but lot of evenings we love it..
s. J.
Big and welcoming. Friendly staff. Great outdoor bit but wish it was no smoking. Lovely sunny day but we had to sit inside to eat due to smokers!
D. B.
It's weather spoons . Buyt every time I go for breakfast there's an issue with the coffee machines .no milk not been turned on waiting for the water to heat up or waiting for it to complete a cleaning cycle
S. H.
Good local wetherspoons pub. We were surprised that it was quite quiet considering the location. Friendly staff and good service
p. l. (.
Large clean cheap and great food what more do you need and saves having to chase around to find reasonable prices. Fast service too
H. W.
Not bad for a Wetherspoons. Steak was cooked well, service was ok, inside is quite dark but was appreciated after being out in the sun
p. s.
Very reasonable price, given the state of the economy right now.
R. S.
Basic spoons noise and brash on a weekend, decent beer and indifferent but efficient service Jail Ale all good on day of visit.
D. E.
Plenty of space for a late afternoon pre-dinner drink with friends. Quick service, but a little smokey in the courtyard!
M. R.
As with all "Spoons" Great value for money. Clean spacious toilets. Efficient staff.
M. H.
Busy but cheap drinks, good for a starting place for groups.
D. W.
I just love all wetherspoon pubs. Good food, good venues. I especially like their meal deals, great bargains.
P.
Nice place but not aloud to sit outside after 9:00pm so place was pack and we left
M. N.
Well worth a visit.hidden away next to Plymouth gin.had the wraps to eat very tasty.would definitely recommend
M. M.
Was really really busy & could do with more bar staff as we were waiting about 20 mins to be served, until it thinned out mid evening.
R. H.
I know it’s just a spoons but I love this place, very cozy and warm environment, all the benefits of spoons like cheap and quick drinks. Being here with friends is very relaxing after a stressful week. And staff are brilliant.
T. T.
Nice place, everything you’d expect from a Wetherspoons, good food and good beer. Nicely located in the older side of Plymouth.
G. B.
Arguably one of the best Spoons I've visited, nice mix of age groups, some well kept cask ales and plenty of seating available. The staff were clueless, as in most Spoons' pub but the atmosphere was good and as you'd expect, the beer was cheap.
S. L. D. J. b. t. t. 3.
Always acceptable, consistent and affordable food. Amusement machines (slot etc) wheel chair accessable, friendly staff and ale at 2,30 a pint or so at 5%. Not to mention, it's in a lovely location.
j. L.
It is a wetherspoons so everybody knows what to expect cheap booze quick food not always very good you can live on it but why would you want to.
They are now one of few outlets offering a new wrap, a chicken shawarma which is spicy and well worth the money
S. C.
A very busy Wetherspoon, great prices as usual but slow table service
L.
Good food and drink and always an entertaining Saturday night on the Barbican...
p. d.
Good beer and very good reasonably priced food.
S. N.
Only popped in for a drink, but nice. Good service too
G. W.
It was a busy day , ordered four meals , two came with cold chips , I did complain the staff did replace them .Don't know what it is with Witherspoon lately been to three different pubs and the chips always come cold , should be a easy thing to get right .
D. M.
Excellent food and the service was very good, would certainly return again
G.
Clean pub, food hot and nice, good portions, drinks fine. Staff helpful, All really good. 5 stars.
Tip to manager, if you have no straws or tartare sauce, buy some locally, nearly lost you a point.
0.
Food was nice but basic reasonable prices, staff was polite ad friendly
M. M.
I had the large mixed grill it was awsum go Tuesday steak day deals
T. F.
First time visiting here very nice and seemed very friendly, cheap drinks.
t. a.
Lovely and friendly service lots of different ales and it's nice how you can try them first Lovely and clean place to go into
D.
Sticky floor aside, nice enough spoons. Jackfruit pizza on the menu as a non-carnivorous option.
P. (.
It's a Wetherspoons. It's never going to be earth shattering, but steak and chips for a fiver is not to be sneezed at.
D. S.
Cheap Wetherspoons on the Barbican. Really needs more seating inside, as you can struggle to find an empty table. Very much a traditional 'Spoons, long bar, expect a wait to be served, but friendly staff.
J. B.
I found the venue overcrowded hot and oppressive. It was Saturday evening so it maybe was expected. I bought one drink and drank outside.
The staff, however, were well organised, polite, and efficient. Drinks were well priced.
A. F.
Cheap as chips, always busy or at least every time I have been there. It's a spoons so you know what you will get. Cheap drinks compared with other pubs and the food is ok. Chicken wings are great 👌
G. H.
Absolutely brilliant little place. One of the better Wetherspoons on the Barbican that's away from the absolute madness and fights of the main town centre. It's got a bit of history to it and the locals know it too! You feel like a pirate within a shared love of old wne new walls. It's the same price of any spoons but the atmosphere is 10x better
D. S.
Great coffee just as you like your coffee, you use the machine and make it just as you like and at a great price.
T. S.
Nice atmos, friendly bar staff
L. F.
One of the better wether spoons pubs, good food and service
T. B.
Cheap drinks and food, great value for money.
B. J.
I like the name it's very funny
The butterchicken burger is bad and silly (lack of honey mustard) but they have yummy alcohol
M. R.
Beautiful pub, very clean, friendly.
Well located.
high recommended.
K. K.
Weatherspoons doing what they do best. Great choice of drink that won't break the bank. Very busy but staff were well placed and attentive which ensured you don't wait long for service.
S.
It's a Weatherspoons. Pretty standard. Floor was really sticky and you can't sit outside after 9 which was annoying. You couldn't really hear yourself or your group it was very loud.
C. P.
Ok but not very warm so had food and left as soon as possible.
r. f.
Busy witherspoon!but food/drink on table within 7 minutes from ordering!bought to table with a smile and a enjoy!!!excellent service!from young, friendly, professional staff!some restaurants could learn from a few shifts in a witherspoon!!
I. C.
What's not to like about Spoon's....great beer, good food and open for food till 11pm.....steak Tuesday rules and excellent staff.
M. Y.
Popped in here for a breakfast, nice food at a good price. In a good setting on the barbican.
N. P.
The drinks and breakfast was very nice and the staff was very helpful.
A. M.
It's a spoons, so don't go expecting the Ritz.
Phone signal is poor at best, the app hardly ever works, table service is good but you can be waiting for longer periods to put in an order the busier it gets. Table service is generally quite good with helpful staff.
J. D.
Beer is good and cheap, but the outside beer garden at the front is only until 9pm.
R. I.
Lovely pub and atmosphere. Food was OK nothing to shout from the roof tops about. I would definitely visit again👌
r. r.
Mmm what to say usual wetherspoons usual food and beer but lack of proper real ale
The building itself is narrow and long which reflects in the middle seating being wrapped around columns so if you don't want to chat to someone but stare at a wall then be my guest
J. L.
Weatherspoons good menu at great prices
P. “. O.
Brilliant Witherspoon's. Great selection of food and great Ales. Friendly helpful staff.
M. S.
Lovely branch of spoons, slightly hidden away on the Barbican. Nice outdoor seating area as well as well spaced indoor seating. Nice food and staff were friendly and helpful. Typical spoons really
J. B.
Standard weatherspoons, nice place with cheap drinks and meals
J. B.
Staff are very happy and welcoming to us
The hot drink ☕ pay for 1 and the other drink are free 👌
And the American breakfast is very good
J. W.
Very quiet and lighting is very dim. Service is good and the staff are very friendly. Like all spoons it is nice to have a self service coffee machine. It would be nice if they could add some more or brighter lights during the day time. The area by the bar is well lit but there is hardly any light near the tables, which is a shame.
Food came out in a good time, which was breakfast. No complaints for the food. It's a shame the coffee has gone up by a fair bit since I last visited. Was extremely good value for money when it was only £1 for unlimited refills.
S. H.
Very clean, very busy (bank holiday weekend) helpful staff. Not the best taste on the beer front not sure if the pipes need cleaning.
m. d.
Went for breakfast with my friends, lovely breakfast and alcohol of course
C. O.
The Buttermilk burger was very good and a decent price.
C. G.
Always having to wait Much much longer to get served .the bar full of people and Only 2 behind the bar
L. S.
Absolutely rammed on todays visit but our food and drinks arrived quite speedily and was really nice!
J. R.
Busy in the evenings here. Standard Wetherspoons quality.
a.
Good service, excellent rump steak and empire state burger..
M. A. V. -. S.
When me and the Mrs visit Plymouth we always go for breakfast there, before taking our daughters to the aquarium. Nice little place, friendly and professional staff.
M. W.
I had a Steak and salad and my wife had a chicken wrap, I had a pint of real ale and my wife had a Coca-Cola, the bill was just whisker over £15-00 , the steak was amazing as was the wrap.
G. L.
Good food lovely friendly helpful staff
T. P.
It's a Spoon's, so always great value.
J. A.
Love brunch with an all day breakie. Live being able to order on my phone. 5*
J. F.
Excellent service 👏 highly recommended old fashioned beams decor very homily. Great beer.
p. b.
Great friendly pub excellent app great atmosphere
R. M.
My husband had the special mix grill for £4.99 which was a special offer he said hope they do that again was lovely and well worth the money Please Please do it again just to shut him up.
S. B.
Good value pub on Barbican, alas breakfast was not as usual due to change in hash browns which were also over cooked old hash browns perfect new were awful.
c. k.
Nice place but another Wetherspoons with less than clean gin glasses.
D. S.
Not one of the best Weatherspoons in Plymouth, although it is always busy
K. H.
Everything we go in there they haven't got what we want. Pizza, new spicy chicken dish, classic burger (had the ultimate burger tho!!! this time. Can tell covid restrictions lifted because tables are sticky as before.
G. F.
You get seated immediately then after 10 minutes with no bar staff around you have to wave your arms like a child asking to go to the toilet in school before getting anyone to take your order..was not impressed!!
Much better service in the Plymouth East Beefeater yesterday evening.
A. M.
Very good Spoons. Quick and efficient service, could hardly believe how quickly we got our food. Friendly and helpful with children and happy to amend our order. Great vegan options now, really like having a good choice in a mainstream chain.
T. B.
I know times are hard but I tend to find the spoons have got their way of serving totally wrong went for father's day breakfast with the family.
Could not get reception to order on the app so waited 15 minutes for service order our food and drinks waited another 15 minutes for our food which was cold then got my coffee cup after I had finished my breakfast little or no use then.
I am sorry to say this but spoons are really failing at this time let's just hope they start to improve.
L. F.
Staff very friendly and helpful, service quite quick. Drinks price more reasonable then anywhere else in Devon so far , not everything was available on the menu
L. E.
Brilliant cheap drinks, lovely food. Only downside is staff wasn't very alert for watching customers who wasn't wearing masks. Some of hand gel stations never had and foam in
M. B.
Best spoons in Plymouth by far, lovely atmosphere and the staff are nice, depending on the time you go in can be great for some chill drinks or a nice night out, the food is also reasonably priced so can't complain.
D. J.
Prices are great as always, let down by service,
We were there for a wedding meet up, family and friends joining us for food. We grabbed a drink till they arrived, just as they did 7.30pm the doorman came round asking for ID to our 16 year olds, with no explanation why. Then said they have to leave as no kids allowed in.
After checking food for family’s is served till 8pm this means they have till 8.30 till eat up. We left as the doorman still didn’t have a clue.
Meet up again for breakfast next morning (friends chose place again) ordered our food and one full size breakfast came with sausage missing, easy mistake to make so informed staff member, 5 minutes later one sausage came (large breakfast should have two) didn’t bother asking a third time for the correct order.
Not a great experience on a brand that is normally good
P. F.
Not enough bar staff, slow service
s. i.
Really liked this place ordered drinks through app drinks and food came within a reasonable time frame.
S. J.
Nice little Wetherspoons, good Pizzas!
M.
Very efficient and friendly service with a welcoming atmosphere
G. W.
Good baked potato but too dark inside pub. Great price for coffee and free refills friendly staff.
M. C.
Excellent value drinks and food 👍
S. C.
Very busy pub. Had to stand but didn't mind as the drinks are cheap.
s. k.
Place is well set up to have a drink or have some food, but still follow covid rules. Staff is well trained and all runs smoothly.pleasant evening with long time not seen friends.
S. J.
Visited 15:30 on a weekday with children in party. Relatively clean and tidy, ordered using App and food came quite quickly, good portion size. Only negative is that it is a public house and, unfortunately, we were seated near a group who were very vocal and language not suitable for young ears so we left as soon as we had eaten!
W. W.
Didn't have any fish and it was only 12PM.
K. W.
Had nice cheap nosh here recently. Like being able to order from your table via the app.
J. T.
Typical spoons. Great for a cheap breakfast
T. S. J.
Brilliant pub friendly staff especially the staff member how did our breakfast on Saturday and the staff member with Pink Hair deserved A medal
D. F.
Typical witherspoon but in a lovely area barbican.
N. C.
Nearly walked past it as wasn't looking for it. Started to rain so dived in and was really glad I did. Food came quick and was hot, and lovely surroundings. Wasn't looking for it, very very happy I found it ! Staff were lovely.....
R. L.
Lovely meal (rump steak) served within minutes of ordering at a great price including a soft drink. Courteous staff and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Can't fault
M. A.
Good food for reasonable prices with quick table service. Children able to eat here, also has a outdoor area
V. K.
Well laid out with typical Wetherspoons menu. Fast service, and the curry club is amazing value for the meal you get.
My only problem was that tables were not particularly clean, but then this pub is in a very busy area with quick customer turn over.
P.
Class spoons good didn’t and great people! Really nice chatting with the locals
T. W.
Very nice pub.. Had a lovely meal and drink...
R. H.
Good prices pleasant staff
J. S.
Nice atmosphere. Had a couple of nice drinks here. Lovely staff.
A. B.
The food and drink was a very reasonable price as usual from a Weatherspoons. The two specials were massive and very good. The only down side was the pizza we ordered was very tight on the toppings and over cooked.
D. B.
Decent wetherspoons. Bar staff are efficient and friendly, drinks as always are cheap and there are good deals on shots and cocktails. Food menu is as always good value and you get what you pay for. This spoons is in a nice area of Plymouth near the sea front so its worth a visit.
D. S.
A truly lovely place to eat and socialise, and the six of us did and one of us had a Birthday.
M. C.
The standard of food has dropped. Good wine and alcohol in general. Too many children allowed and not kept under supervision. Needs cleaning, but staff excellent.
D. G.
Good place for a few pints with friends. Bar staff friendly and quick at serving customers. I would give them 10 out of 10.
R. W.
Secluded position. Massive range of gins at always great prices. Food arrived quickly friendly staff. Very busy and was showing the rugby, which was surprising for weatherspoons. Very noisy.
m. w.
Consistently good quality beer at a reasonable price, great place to start or end a night out on the Barbican!
I. S.
It's a Spoons cheap alcohol and food, enough said 😂
B. P.
Good place for a quick bite or a pint. The soft chairs were filthy though. Nice enough place and the staff were very attentive. First time I've tried the wetherspoons app, really good and very fast service.
G. H.
Great choice of beer and price
h. c.
Only giving 3 stars because the food was quite good. Didn't wait long for it either. Though chicken was a tough in the burger. Trying to get on the wifi or any wifi for that matter, to go on the app and order, was such a palaver. Took probably around 15/20 mins and a lot of frustration. Almost walked out. Only Interacted with the bloke on the door. Didn't really see the staff as it was really busy. Just left to your own devices which is a good thing. Though tried to get the attention of 2 members of staff about the wifi and they just walked off. ( may not of heard me I suppose.)
Was pretty mediocre.
O. U.
Five stars for Owen and his excellent customer service. A fine prospect and millions of pounds waits for him in future ventures he may seek success in, should he so wish to grab the opportunities that will no doubt present themselves.
A. G.
Spoonsies gonna spoon. Best named one so far though
S.
A Wetherspoons pub in Plymouth plenty of seating. Service is a bit curt but ok. Other places around have more to offer but for a quick meal on a budget this is the best place. Quite busy and difficult to get a seat at peak times.
M. C.
Nice meal just the basic chicken and chip 3 meals & 3 drinks £22 very nice. Good service first time I've used the app waited 3 minutes great service
J. L.
Great, nice quiet pub in the morning, ideal for a delicious good value Breakfast
W.
We have been here a few times and it's always very welcoming. This time I had the vegetarian lasagne it was delicious.
P.
Great beer nice staff
A. D.
I've been here three times, twice with my friends and once with my girlfriend. The last time I went I used the Weatherspoons app. Even when using the app they got my girlfirerns order wrong. I felt the staff were friendly, but also weren't happy and didn't want to be there. The food was faily cheap as I ordered a starter, two main meals and two drinks for £15.
J. T.
Wetherspoons pub. Nothing remarkable and part of a big chain so don't expect too much by way of individual character. Fine for pub grub and, in fairness, Wetherspoons do tend to have an extensive range of beers, lagers and ciders. Prices are OK but I don't like lining the pockets of the owner given their particular politics. Better to support a small, local, independent pub rather than this "supermarket" of bland venues.
G. F.
Great pub. Great variety of ales and spirits. Great atmosphere. And nice staff.
A. T.
Been here a few times recently, good food and drink at expected low prices. Friendly staff in general. Apart from last visit where female member of staff gave me change from a tenner instead of a twenty, when challenged she said do I want her to check CCTV, I advised she should, lucky gentleman standing next to me confirmed I gave her a twenty, so she reluctantly gave me the correct change without apoloy

We Love Weatherspoons. We think value for money you just can't beat it. Enjoyed a lovely meal there yesterday with the family, 2 adults 3 children all had meals and drinks and for under 35 quid :O. Left with a fully belly and feeling happy, what more could you want.
N. D.
It's a every nice Wetherspoons pub serves all the drinks you could want and has an even better choice of pitchers now with the app. There is a small outside seating area and a good number of tables inside
C. S.
Great Spoons. Everything you'd expect... value for money and lively atmosphere.
E. P.
Standard Wetherspoons. Food is cheap yet delicious, staff have always been friendly and try their best to help. Quite small though and can be very busy, and a number of times have waited over 40 minutes for food. Nothing special, but nothing bad either, recommended.
P. R.
Hen night here with food. Was a lovely evening. Very busy but we were still able to find deats. Both food and drinks very reasonably priced. Good night had by all
R. G.
This is why Wetherspoons are doing good. Visited Friday 3rd August for breakfast. Greeted by barman who was very friendly and welcoming. Breskfast came out in record time, to a high standard, and good portions. Drinks were of good size, and excellent real coffee. Barman asked if everything ok, and plates cleared. Excellent breakfast for the family, and thanks to the barman for his excellent service and friendliness. Cheers JD.
D. M.
Worst wetherspoon in Plymouth staff slow to clear tables even when pub is quiet. Bar staff never pay attention to people waiting to be served just serve whoever is stood in front of them despite others waiting longer, on average takes 10 minutes to get served sometimes longer.
C. T.
Best Wetherspoons in the area.
The food is really good quality and at a very reasonable price. It's a great place to meet up with a few friends and hang out. The prices of alcoholic drinks are very good and so is very good for students.
J. H.
Very cheap drinks, noisy but pleasant atmosphere, very friendly.
E. N.
This place is probably the cheapest bar in the barbican. It's a Wetherspoons so the usual menu for them. On a sports day it can get pretty rowdy in here but plenty of times I've been here when it's quieter and more pleasant. There's a beer garden too though it doesn't get much sunlight. They allow smoking in this area though so be warned if that's not your thing.
S. L.
Good choice of real ales & coffee's. Pleasant beer garden in the front & immaculate loos. Standard weatherspoons food, but that's no bad thing as you know what to expect. All in all, a good place to visit.
M. P.
Not the nicest of weatherspoons pubs as it's a bit dingy and looking very tired in places. The food here is mediocre, the usual microwaved meals as found in all their pub's but fab selection of beer's, ciders and wine. Staff always pleasant and helpful
s. s.
Nice quirky out of the way pub
S.
Good pub with nice outdoor seating
J. R.
Nice pub, courteous staff, not very busy...food nice also
L. W.
No music as with all weatherspoons
T. S.
we paid for the extended tour, it was educational but not much to see behind the scenes. tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about marine life. it was wet when we went away but this was near the hotel and made a good break
s. r.
This is one of my favourite Wetherspoons in the south west mainly for its close location to the Barbican and Hoe, much more convenient than Union Rooms. Haven't had a bad experience here they also seem to have a few extra items on the menu like a deluxe veggie burger.
S.
Usual cheap Wetherspoon prices here in a good location.
Food is not always consistently cooked. Especially steak.
There is often a very long wait at the bar.
Weekends can be very busy.
J. J.
food a tad cold, as to be expected from wetherspoons
B.
Cosy, nice atmosphere. WiFi and signal is very limited especially at the back of the restaurant. Other than that it's lovely.
B. S.
A standard Wetherspoons pub but situated on the historic Plymouth barbican. It can be a bit rowdy at times and the decor could do with some tlc as it is shabby in places. That being said the staff are helpful and polite and make you feel welcome. Food is standard for a chain pub. Overall a nice place to go for some cheap drinks or the start of a night out.
J. R.
Cooked breakfast and unlimited drinks, lovely outdoor area, clean relaxed place.
G. G.
It's a Wetherspoon's. Cheap food, cheap drink. No frills. Exactly like most other Wetherspoon's everywhere. Little bit of outside seating but not a lot
j. r.
As a 21 year old, i really enjoyed having 'ONLY ADULTS IN HERE LOVE' yelled at me by a middle aged man as i walked in. I mean apart from that, best curry ive had in plymouth and very affordable. Also the gin menu is superb xo
L. I.
Typical Wetherspoons set up with a good range of beers on tap. The food looked decent and the tables were cleared quickly. A speciality gin menu provided lots of choice at the usual Wetherspoons great prices.
M. T.
Great spoons. Fab breakfast and friendly staff. Quiet early morning but busy later.
T. D.
This one is a favourite of mine. A Weatherspoons with your standard menus, decent price and out of the way. Brilliant for a small group of friends wanting to catch up, or a family meal.
I've only seen it get overly busy a few times, besides that I've always got my food pretty quickly.
As Westherspoons go this one obviously has a pretty good cook!
Never had any complaints about food.
Only down sides I can think of is the total lack of phone signal and the lack of natural light in some parts. As its located off the path and between buildings there are only windows at the front. The rest of the restaurant is dark, never been an issue for me but something i know some won't like.
And the phone signal drops low. Text messages should be fine but say goodbye to reliable internet unless you get WiFi.
T.
It's usually pretty busy and the place is quite dark and dank feeling. It's still a wetherspoons though so.. Cheap food and drinks when the staff finally notice you. The bigger one in town (Union Street) is a nicer experience if you can get to it
A. M.
A good place to meet up with friends. Drinks are very reasonably priced and they have outside seating. Sometimes it is difficult to find a clean table.
A. K.
If you're looking for luxury or plushiness, this isn't it. But for a Weatherspoons, this place is great. Chilled, relaxed, great venue and bottle of Prosecco for £11. Probably the most cost effective bottle you'll find in any bar. cost effective food too.
B. L.
It's been a while since we visited, the bar staff reds more training and you still can't get Lager and lime when you use the app. However still a decent place to have a drink and a meal.
S. A.
Thank you to the Manager with it all, James! We enjoyed a wonderful 66 birthday evening with you and the super staff. Here's to the future... Cheers,
Mike.
P. D.
The best Wetherspoons in the city of Plymouth, and definitely the cheapest pub in the old Barbican area. Good vibes on the right nights. Can get crowded, and if you want a meal, tables can be hard to get. Food is generally good, but for some reason they do serve the best burritos I've ever had in a Spoons. (Pulled pork, recommended!)
A. V.
As I travel extensively across the country I've become a fan of the 'spoons offerings.
The menu is pretty standard, the real beers a bit different, the carpets unique and the toilets are always gold standard.
M. G.
Certainly one of the nicest Wetherspoons I have visited, limited outside seating but a nice spot.
P. H.
Lovely setting by the harbour and luckily lovely weather for sitting outside. Service and food we had was good but the menu was limited assume because of covid.
L. T.
Lovely light lunch for 3 plus drinks for less than £20. Cant beat it. And a very obliging staff that knocked up a cheap lunch for a very fussy 2 year old.
B. A.
Was alright. Food took ages.
B. B.
Love wetherspoons and the Gog and Magog didn't disappoint, we were in Plymouth for 5 days and visited 3 times
D. J.
Nice and relaxing service is good and a nice place to have a break when walking around the Barbican.
N. B.
A pretty relaxed bar which offered one of the strongest ales I've ever tried - Hunters Full Bore at 6.9abv. Delis as well. Being a Wetherspoons it had a full menu and had just recently started selling pizzas.
s.
Well organised considering covid19 situation, ordering foot and drinks easy no need to wander from tabke on for use if the toilet, food was brilliant come quick hot and was just really good pub grub
S. H.
For a Weatherspoons it's OK, still cheap, packed with as many people as possible and selling cheap and cheerless food
P. J.
Food could have been hotter.
M. T.
Belters of a pint, good pub meals too. Brilliant friendly service. Perfect pit stop on yer barbican stroll
J. M.
Great location, and as per usual with Weatherspoons very well priced drinks and food and the quality where it should be! The beer was cold; the food hot and all ordered from the app what more could a customer want?
M. I.
Excellent and the app makes ordering a lot simpler good food and drink good prices
S. B.
Easy ordering, very good prices for good quality drinks. Nice friendly staff.
D. M.
Great atmosphere good range of Beers and ciders quick service
T. P. T. B. D.
Typical weatherspoons! Very busy!
s. f.
Great pub great food great service exactly what you expect from a wetherspoons
L. H.
Food was bland, cheap though so not surprised. Felt claustrophobic in the corner but I guess that's just covid for you. Forgot our drinks so waited a while for these.
S. F.
We have just had a breakfast today which was fantastic value...
But on thursday both my wife and myself had the Thursday curry night one of the best we have had well done...
M. C.
It's a spoons, that's it, however, it is called the Gog and Magog and that is bloody hilarious.
N. H.
Typical Wethrspoons, crowded as it was a Saturday but the atmosphere aas great with an eclectic mix of people. Staff tried and in general succeeded in keeping the throng in drinks. Good effort
T. H.
It's a vibrant and trendy place, typical wetherspoons. It was extremely busy and difficult to get a table. Due to to the volume of people it was very cramped and our table was filthy.
R. W.
Situated on the barbican,a popular place for food and drink.
A. B.
Situated near the sea front very good selection of hand pulled beers along with all the usual draught selections.
Hand pulled beers priced at £2.15
There was a nice outdoor area and was near the Plymouth Gin Company
I. T.
It's a Wetherspoons pub, drinks are fairly cheap and the food is nearly all microwaved.
It's cheap for the location as most bars in the area are at least 50p more a pint.
z. f.
Good meals, choice of some healthier meals but could do with more. Great value. If you order a coffee you can refill as often as you like
S. W.
It's gone downhill in the last year or so, the food is sometimes inedible
, despite the good price, it's still not worth the money. The whole area needs refurbishing, however the staff are always friendly and cheerful
k. p.
Brilliant lil pub, good staff and outdoor seating available. Get here early on the weekends!
D. S.
Typical chain pub just off the historic Barbican's Southside Street. There are always meal deals on offer in this clean and spacious food pub.
The toilets are immaculate as one would expect.
The Gog gets packed out at weekends and is an early meeting place for club goers.
Coffee is just £1 - as of 11/11/2013
David
R. S.
Popped in to use the WiFi so bought a coffee in the morning. Good quality for the price and the atmosphere seemed great. Bet it would be great with a few pints instead of coffee though...
D. C.
Dropped in for lunch with my husband and two teenage children. Staff were very pleasant and the food was served promptly and all our dishes were lovely, definitely will go again when back in Plymouth 😊
A. L.
Excellent choice of real ales.
G. C.
A very pleasant pub/restaurant and excellent prices. Plus a good range of food and drink. Pleasant decor and outside area.
J. -. D.
Food was Great and ,Great price too .Staff lovely n friendly .I shall be back Jamie-Lee Lpool ...
S. C.
Fantastic food and great service and staff friendly cheap beer
E. H.
Just an average wetherspoons, nothing special. Toilets are downstairs for once. Service is quick.
P. H.
Nice food , disabled toilet and access ramp and friendly staff
L. H.
Lovely location and lovely food for both breakfast, lunch and dinner at great prices. Any issues were either made aware to us beforehand or were deal with afger.! Wonderful staff too.
Ф. C. ф. P.
It's a good spoons. Watched a gobby northern monkey trying to start a fight with a Scottish dude, the northern monkey came off worst.....
N. K.
Not the usual standard of a weatherspoons, coffee machine out of action, toilet all taped up. Some pumps not working. Have definitely been in better weatherspoons.
A. S.
A great popular pub in one of Plymouths more interesting areas. A good selection of food and drinks at good prices. Ideal for a night out or just a few drinks with friends. Wi-Fi was a problem though.
H. K.
OK to go for cheap drinks.
J. W.
Excellent service - it's a Weatherspoon pub - say no more! Wide choice of food. Select food first - many menu options include cost of drinks.
T. I.
Very busy on a Saturday night, 4 man deep to bar but atmosphere is great. Good food and in a great area for the barbican. Must go and experience. Will be going again....
L. F.
Good food and beverages at reasonable prices
J. P.
It is what it is... a cheap place to eat and drink. The guy who served me was very pleasant and helpful. Place could do with a good clean though!
R. J. W.
Service is great here and for the money wetherspoons can not be beaten.
B. N.
Really nice pub, very clean, great location, staff super helpful and friendly. The food was excellent and timely. Will use again in the future
D. G.
Fish and chips + drink great deal, fish was beautiful and we like the refills on coffee. Lovely seating area outside.
C. M.
Clean, tidy, great beer choice. Food is standerd Weatherspoons. Can get very busy, but staff levels seems to be OK.
F. S.
Not far from the hoe and shopping centre, lovely staff here and locals are nice too, near the Plymouth gin works. Outside area. Food done to good standard, good spoons
A. R.
I only go there first thing in the morning for coffee and breakfast, so I can't comment on the meals or beer.
Staff are friendly, the coffee is cheap and there is a good Wi-Fi connection (even outside!).
M. R.
Very busy, but what can you expect it's Spoooons! But pretty quick service for the volume and quite a nice building very atmospheric with all the people in a small room for a spoon
T. B.
Nice pub, little outside area, good for a couple drinks
J. T.
Good standard spoons pub. Good location and well patronised. Beer and food up to usual standards although quite a wait at the bar to be served.
C. M.
Fastest service I have ever seen in a wetherspoons. Food and drink very good. Just a wetherspoons with class service
t. h.
Used their app for the first time worked a treat. The place was very busy took us longer to get a table than it tuck for the food to get to us. No complaints.
A. F.
Like this pub. One of the nicer Wetherspoons I think.
S. D.
Good Breakfast value for money very quick service.
A. J.
This is post covid19. The food was of good quality, however the portion a little on the small side. Atmosphere OK and staff helpful throughout.
S. L.
Good meal ,good service but as normal a bit hap Hazzard as with most spoons
A. C.
This is a well runJ D Weatherspoons pub , with a realy good management team and staff . The door staff are polite and helpful. The location is good and of course the beer and food also .
p. A. e. i. t. k. t. r.
It's a pub!! The staff are friendly and willing to go just that little extra should the need arise. The building is nice and kind of sets the mood.
d. 1.
Decent atmosphere with fairly nice food and quite good selection of drinks. Won’t change the way you look at nights out but good place to start a night out definitely
J. H.
Not a bad place to stop in and have a drink or some cheap food if on the Barbican. They offer some good combination prices on food/drink including alcohol which helps a lot if on a budget.
M. J. H.
Well the staff were rushed off their feet .But still had smiles on their faces , and were very helpful
J. B.
Nice pub, nice staff. Beer garden shuts at 9 as it's in a residential area (probably), but still great place for a lone woman to drink.
S. D.
The best spoons in Plymouth! Clean and smells nice! happy staff! social distancing policed properly! :)
M. G.
Distinctly average No Aberdeen Angus anymore on menu. Additional egg on large mixed grill when there isn't one on the standard so one added onto zero.
P. S.
Cheap and cheerful Weatherspoons. Can't go wrong, but defiantly not the best Weatherspoons about. I would recommend The Union Rooms over this one as they are quite close.
B. W.
A typical Wetherspoons, ie multiple real ales etc, you may miss this place as its entrance is a bit hidden in a courtyard, gets ULTRA busy during summer evenings when the young 'Janners and Biiirds' are on show.
f. n. l. n.
Does the job relaxed atmosphere food and drink is delivered on time! More of a drinking venue that food place! Can get really busy on weekends evenings etc!
s. k.
One of the best weatherspoons so far great service lovely staff ...
L. M.
Very nice place to go into staff are so friendly and the food is great 👍
A. M.
Food is ok very simple but good, service good. Tables and decor need a little bit of work but you pay for what you get.
D. J.
Nice setting, clean and tidy. Quick table service using the app.
S. B.
Good old Wetherspoons fare thanks to all the friendly staff. Cheers
C. W.
Great value as always with Wetherspoons. Just a shame the coffee machine was not working both days we visited for breakfast, so couldn't have a latte.
M. D.
Good and like all wetherspoons prices to match
K. P. R.
Love it very cosie good staff.
M. G.
Fair prices drinks and money worth with food the staff are polite and friendly and you always feel comfortable with them. Highly recommend for functions
A. b. W.
Good place gougous lady's on bar better altitude than the staff in the 2 in Paignton where I live manager useless no beard net or hair nets worn when serving food or drinks its the law any staff with long hair or beards should wear them at all times I said don't mess with the headchefs who have more experience then any one in iscaa merit and the talk of the town I have been in catering for35 years so wake up cowboys of the pubs in Paignton OK boys
k. m.
Cheap, good quality food fish and chips surprisingly impressive
L. R.
Friendly staff nice atmosphere. Never had any trouble with food ordering even when busy. Consistent.
R. H.
Excellent staff good range of drinks very cheap
B. M. A. L.
Decent spoons, easy to order, lots of seating. Decent cheap breakfast
A. M.
We had breakfast here and really enjoyed it! Compared to other spoons seating is limited so don't hang about!
K. S.
Food cheap but not very nice. Obviously left under the heat lights for 20 mins before being brought out. Shame. Drinks nice tho
D.
Great selection of real ales and a readable cost. Comfy seat, wide range type of sear such as cubicles, tables or sofas.
D. G.
Nice place limited on real ale choice, otherwise fine normal Wetherspoons pub.
j. d.
Very low on stock on food and drinks menu could only get steak on 1 visit we was there
T. T.
Nice place, just what you expect from a wetherspoons
P. S.
Typical "spoons". Good prices and efficient staff.👍
S. p.
Great service, ordered via app, everything as ordered and friendly staff, well done
L. B.
Lovely atmosphere! Great for drinks in the evening. Their breakfasts in the morning are fantastic, as are their burgers!
r. d.
Good atmosphere and good food, nice and efficient staff but a shame the managers special had sold out by 18.30 ... gave me an excuse to buy steak though so all was not lost 😅
A. W.
An odd pub, in the middle of flats/houses, but nice and quiet, good location.
R. B.
Nice meal
B. D.
Great place for food and drink. Being a weatherspoon its the same menu. Can get busy time to time but great hot food
G. S.
Good food good drinks friendly and efficient staff. All clean and tidy with a nice atmosphere for a meal and a few drinks.
C. M.
Very warm on a cold day, friendly staff and quick service.
M. D.
Really like this pub atmosphere always good and the food delicious

Great pub with character and lovely food and drinks.
M. S.
Staff are managing the social distancing really well. Had a great afternoon and felt safe in the current climate.
M. G.
Amazing food and amazing staff. Always makes me and my husband feel welcome.
P. D.
Typical Wetherspoons. Cheap beer, good service and an interesting carpet.
R. K.
It's a wetherspoons, what else can you say. Not the best we've been too, needs some work as rough and ready.
D. D.
Great service by the staff and great food will definitely go back. Thanks to the staff for making my visit enjoyable
P. S.
Back again for a Thatcher's and a brekkie. Always a great atmosphe.
r.
Very busy Wetherspoons pub. Nice location and a good atmosphere and good decor. Great breakfast for next to nothing as always.
W. S.
The usual good value substantial meals with great beer, as you expect from the Wetherspoon's chain. Pity the chain is run by a xenophobic anti European idiot.
O. C.
An alright Spoons, not into their ale as much as Union Rooms, a ten minute walk ...
J. M.
I hadn't been down the barbican in few years, I was on course all week in Plymouth and coming to end myself and friends on the course went there for curry night good atmosphere good food can't fault it and good service
D. K.
Good weatherspoons friendly staff nice atmosphere great food. Value for money
G. H.
Staff very helpful when having problems with the app , it's good to have weatherspoons back open
M. F.
Great meeting point and starting point . Idealet for party's lovely food . Good prices.
Very large Toilets. Love this place.
I. H.
Visited this place twice for the all day breakfast with my family food was excellent staff were friendly and a good location. I would recommend this place.
U. Z.
I had to wait at the bar little bit longer than I used to in mid-eastern European countries... But the service was good. But closing at midnight... It's just so depressive...
M. L.
Typical Wetherspoons, good cheap food and quick service. Open late and cheap drinks, perfect place to start a night out on the Barbican
E. H.
Better than the average spoons for sure, never any trouble good selection at beers, clean and friendly. Good for families also.
R. M.
After a walk from Plympton to the Barbican this oasis awaits you. The perfect breakfast stop. Stunning prices and warm and cosy. How can you not like?
W. H. P.
Indoor and outdoor seating available, good food and drink at reasonable prices, quick service, not too busy
m. p.
Great beer, as always at Wetherspoons and a great price, never ate but food looked very good.
J. G.
Lovely breakfast. Swapped items without any problems. Staff friendly & helpful.
C. H.
It was really great.excellent food. Good atmosphere. Lovely staff. Brilliant value.
l. s.
Good for food and real ale
C. F.
Environment was spot on for what we needed it for. Breakfast was cheap and with unlimited refills on tea and coffee, made for a great morning
K. E.
If you're looking for a quick drink on an evening out be prepared to wait a long time at the bar over 20 minutes wait sometimes to be served.
T. L.
Nice place but expect that especially at the weekends that it's packed with people and it's hard to get a table if your to late
A. v. d. w.
It's a good pub for an early morning meal, any meal actualy, the staff are exceptional. Good breakfast and good coffee.
M. C.
One of the nicer wetherspoons a lot of character, friendly staff and decent food and drink
C. W.
Again standard pub grub, fairly well priced. Burgera n steaks are nice. Salmon is hit n miss
R. C.
Great meeting place on the Barbican, had many a day out here, beer and food reasonably priced and decent as to be expected from weatherspoons
B. B.
As with any Witherspoon's friendly staff with cheap drinks meals are good value with always an offer of some kind
D. E.
Good food and drink at reasonable prices, the serving sizes are quite generous, even the small plate is more than ample.
a. w.
Good I had a few drinks and saw the Xmas tree in the pub chatted with friends and left at5 for the bus home good day out in Plymouth today
A. k.
Love the food at this pub grate prices and service to the table was very professional will definitely be going there more often
D. W.
Very good spoons 👍
C. N.
Great pub food with great prices, what we love about Weatherspoons. Great, happy staff. Lovely meal out for a get together etc.
J. S.
Nice and different whether spoons good location. Shame they haven't made any more of their outside area.
