A.An overall good experience. We were able to book a table for 10 people on a Sunday afternoon with no problem.
Food came in a reasonable time. If you're Vegetarian, the meat-free carvery is only £4.99! Bargain!
If you're feeling a bit adventurous, there is a roast dinner calzone.. it's an experience 😶
Warning; if you are vegan, you might struggle to find something to eat here.
R. T.Paid for all you can eat breakfast, i ate as much breakfast as i could eat. All in all a very successful mission for both parties involved.
Place was clean, seats were comfy. Plates were given to us the second we ordered, The breakfast was very good. Beans were hot , bacon was hot . Eggs were cooked nicely. Sausages tasted nice, and all food was kept hot under professional grade heat lamps. 16 quid for 2 adults and you can have as much as you like. You wont get that value within a 2 minute walk of home.
Shame Tina didn't like it though 🙄
M.It’s always got an element of a gamble but recently it’s always been great for us. Not too expensive and good food ready to go.
Sometimes you might not get a table, sometimes you might be waiting for a while but typically if you have the carvery it’s a safe bet you’ll be well fed and leave feeling full and happy. Sure it’s a little run down inside and if you go during a busy spell the tables might still have food on them or be a bit sticky but if you don’t mind the gamble then it’s pretty good. Been about 5 times in last 2 months and each time had no issues and been good
J. W.Went to Lord Louis this evening and we was waiting for a good half an hour for our drinks. The lovely lady who noticed we was missing our drinks for a long time and she gave us free deserts! Was over the moon with the service and she was so friendly!

The roast was full of different flavours and cooked to perfection!, as some places all the veg taste so bland but here is absolutely flavoursome,
Table service nothing too much bother especially with having 4 children being a little loud and indecisive, our waitress was fab!

Served by Tyler who was friendly and welcoming. The food was fresh and readily available. The beef was by far the best I’ve had in a long time and reminded me of Christmas!
Only suggestion would be to have a thicker option of gravy… bit too watery for my liking, but that’s nit picking. All round a very good experience. Thank you.

Lee served us at the carvery, he was lovely, very friendly and friendly.
Chelsea looked after our table and couldn't have even more helpful, she was amazing with the younger children.

H. R.Absolutely fabulous service after major surgery in November going out for a meal was my biggest fear. Tonight they supported with a smaller portion and then changed it to a plate instead of a bowl. They made my meal out for my sons 18th birthday wonderful. S. T.Booked a table for boxing day. We had a 3 course meal, Crispy prawn cocktail consisted of lettuce,4 prawns and sauce. Tomato soup was not soup,it was was thick like pasta sauce. Not that nice. And it came out with no spoon after we had almost finished our starter.Carvery was the best. Desserts were nice. Service was slow and had a different girl each time. Would go there during the week but not over the Christmas period.
V. P.We were served by Chelsea today and she was brilliant. Friendly, polite, attentive, great customer service. She was brilliant with my little girl. Food was yummy. Great experience all round.
A. B.19th August arrived 14.00 staff and and service very helpful and friendly would get 5/5 but food 3/5 because wife had turkey very dry partly because it was at its end but mainly because it should be covered with foil to stop it from drying out. Similar for other meats.
Good choice of veg although peas dry and feel the veg could be covered when there are no customers waiting.
We had been here the previous week 12.00 noon and would have given top marks.
Obviously the earlier one attends the better no doubt this is an area to resolve.
As the roof is being replaced is there a modernisation program if so perhaps the carvery area could be improved.
i. b.Average food, would say on par with wetherspoons. Massive downside is staff are miserable and rude. Tried to speak to a member of staff as waited half an hour for ice cream, and they were walking away while trying to explain, it was quiet so can't use the excuse of it being busy, but regardless, why walk away from a customer that is trying to speak to you. Been there a few times and always been the same so unfortunately can't offer anymore than 3 stars. Not planning on returning if service is always poor.
B. T.Lovely food and massive portions. Friendly staff, especially Gemma and George, they were both so patient with us even though we were a big group and had four kids with us.
All kids food comes with free veg and their is a fruit option for dessert which I like too.

Tasty bacon, sausages were ok had done taste , hash browns good , mushrooms a bit watery, and tomatoes like passata . Coffee was good . Can’t understand why it wasn’t busier as very nice. Not quite as much selection of items as Toby. But still really good value . Was unsure of booking times as website a bit confusing. As I let’s you book hour slots and they finish breakfast at 11:30 but the website lets you book a slot 11:30 till 12:30.

M. C.Nice enough pub. Eating area is a little cramped. Went for the Sunday carvery which was good, but was spoiled a bit by having to wait in quite a long que while they fulfilled delivery orders from the servery before serving the customers who had actually bothered to drag themselves out in the awful weather and turn up in person. This resulted in hot drinks, delivered to our table while we were queing, going cold. Fortunately, they were replaced for free no problem.

S. S.Went once recently, Pizza place...with no pizza available. Carvery however was nice, fresh and hot . One child meal came out beef burger instead of chicken burger which we asked for but the price was very cheap , overly not busy. Would likely return.

C. P.Sunday lunch was excellent, but had to eat it quickly as the pub was so cold. We would have stayed and had desert and wine but we were frozen so left as quickly as possible.

R. E. &. H. A.Have been enjoying a carvery here for quite a few years. Since being taken over by Stonehouse and offering pizzas and other foods, it’s good when the little ones can be a little fussy with a carvery, although recently the last couple of visits they haven’t been able to do pizzas.
A.The place and service was really good and also the prices. But the food was really delish! Will definitely be going back again....!!

A. P.Super star waitress 🌟. Karen is a asset to your staff here. She is friendly and attentive. One fish and chips and one carvery. Fish and chips 5/5 the carvery was a 4 but I think this was due to the time we arrived. If we had arrived at mid day it would have looked fresher. Due to being sat under the hear lamps the veg all looked dry and the stuffing was so bad that I couldn't get any. But the gammon and gravy was fab which is the best part. Chocolate brownie and sticky toffee for dessert. The brownie gets a 3/5 really thick and stodgy and the sticky toffee 4/5. Service brilliant here food could do with a bit of tlc. Definitely will be coming back for another weekday roast

M. W.I've been a few times, very friendly staff. Zee the manager today was extremely pleasant and helpful even though she was very busy. I had the carvery really delicious although they were beginning to run put of meat due to lateness of the day, plenty of veg etc. My son had gammon egg and chips he said it was really nice. The person serving the carvery was really friendly and said he'd take my plate to the table for me as I have a disability. Not everywhere does this.

L.I have decided to return to see if the carvery has improved since my last visit 2 years ago. Back then I rated it one star after a awful meal of cheap cooked frozen veg and half cooked potatoes! Well today we went back and boy has it changed, the carvery was great, nice veg, perfect potatoes and good choice of meats. Its well worth down loading their app to receive all the offers, some days its up to 50% off main meals which could save you alot of money!

R. M.Came down for an unplanned lunch with my girlfriend and young daughter this afternoon. We were greeted by a lovely lady who explained how to order, where the highchairs were etc. We ordered two pints, a carvery and a pizza. There was a slightly weird taste to the beers, but Dave, one of the managers, was brilliant and dealt with it straight away.
The pub wasn't too busy, but we were pleasantly surprised at the speed of service. My pizza was on the table within 15 minutes and was stunning. Some might say it needed another minute in the oven, but slightly soft is exactly how I like it! My girlfriend's carvery was well carved and tasty and my daughter was well catered for as well. Would definitely recommend, based on this visit, thanks to all the staff!
T.I went (pre-booked) on a Sunday for a roast, and what a difference (since my last visit years ago), nice polite helpful staff, nice roast. My only negative would be that you have limited time at your table which is shortened by the long wait in the queue for the food (the Carvery needs to be ready at 1200 to serve people)

No gluten free options for desserts apart from ice cream. Even the sundaes had biscuit or pastry in.

However the carvery was lovely, although the chef was quite miserable.
My son dropped my phone down the side of the seat in one of the booths and someone came straight out to help us get it out.
My older son enjoyed the bottomless ice cream.
The barman was very friendly.

We went left into a deserted bar area (though a group of 4 came in after and decided to sit on the table right next to us)??? We ordered apple pie and tea. We were served immediately at the bar by a lovely lady who later spoke to us about the difficulty in getting a mobile phone signal! The apple pie was served hot and well presented and was delicious with my cup of tea. It was a nice pleasant place to visit at 6.45pm and spend an hour.

R. M.Visited on a whim as always looked lovely from the outside. Our general experience was very underwhelming. The service was very poor and there was a very flat atmosphere, no one seated us, took our orders or even checked on us throughout the meal. We had to ask for everything and the waiting staff seemed shocked when you approached them for answers, one ignored us completely. The bar lady who seemed to be the only one actually serving / helping was nice enough but even the chefs looked miserable and tired. The meat was lovely as were the the potatoes but otherwise the food was pretty substandard, most of it very dry or like mush. This past year or so has obviously been very difficult on restaurants but it was just lacking any warmth or interaction. Only giving it the third star as the prices were reasonable and the food was filling.

To be able to go back for more food or coffee/tea at no extra cost makes it extrememly good value. I used to be a regular but the place got grubby, the staff didn't care and the food was disgusting.
I have been back to the Lord Louis 3 times in the past 2 months and I felt welcome from the minute I walked in. On one occasion I had to queue to place my order but the young lady acknowledged me from the coffee machine and asked if I was alright waiting ( I walk with a stick).
The tables and seats were cleaned down between customers, there was someone ready to do this as soon as the previous patrons left although the staff were not hovering over the patrons.
Cutlery was brought to the table separately so it was clean when it arrived and I didn't have to clean it myself.
The food was first class, plenty of it too. The carvers meat was served by a member of the team who had just as big a smile as the person who greeted us and he looked like he was really content in his role.
There were 4 choices of meat, 6 different veg at least and 2 different kinds of potatoes as well as yorkshire pudding. 2 big pots of gravies and condiments/sauces options too.
There was also other food choices like vegetarian, vegan and pizzas as well as options for children.
I had a Carvery and Hubby paid a little more to go "large" with his carvers. We both had a coffee each and we came away having paid just under £21...worth every penny.
....Oh and if you have any food you can't finish ask a staff member for a container, they bring out one with a lid for you to take your leftovers with you at no extra charge.
I didn't have alcohol or go into the bar but I definitely plan on returning so I may well use the bar end of the Lord Louis.
Definitely try the Lord Louis for lunch, evening meal or even Christmas... they are open on Christmas day and only charging £47:99 for their full Christmas Menu.
I haven't had breakfast there but if it's as good as the carvery it's got to be worth a try.
I used the ladies 🚺 facilities and found they were clean, fresh and bright with everything you need fully replenished.
What more can I say? I KNOW...TRY THE LORD LOUIS, ITS GREAT!!!!

We ordered our food and waited over an hour for it, only to be told that we had to go and collect it. By the time we got it the food was cold. We complained about this and Kirsty couldn't apologise enough, she gave my mum a full refund including drinks. We thought we'd give them another shot and they didn't disappoint, I wanted a hot chocolate but unfortunately the machine wasn't working at the time, so Kirsty went out of her way to make me one herself. The all you can eat breakfast's are really good. It was that good that we booked for the rest of the week. Each time the breakfasts got better. I'd like to thank all the members of staff that served us and helped us, with a special shout out to Kirsty, Theresa and Karen. You've gone out of your way to make us feel welcome. Will definitely be bringing my family back when they next visit.

There is also a good sized car park so not much worry about parking. I will visit again.

J. M.Myself and a friend went to the Lord Louis today, desperate for a roast only to find that they'd had such a busy day that they'd completely run out of meat. Both Jo (behind the bar) and Chrissy (the chef) were super helpful and knowing how much we wanted a roast recommended a nearby pub. Even going to the trouble of phoning them up and booking us a table so we weren't disappointed for a second time that evening! When we got to the pub the carvery looked very unappealing so having had such a great experience with the staff at the Lord Louis we headed back to just have something from the main menu instead. We were once again greeted my Jo, then later Chrissy who both felt terrible that we'd still not had a roast! So between them they came up with the plan to make us a roast from scratch, using a chicken breast (as they had no carvery meat left) so approximately 20 minutes later, out came the most amazing huge plate of food, cooked just for us! Roast potatoes, Yorkshires, stuffing, carrots, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, peas and gravy to accompany the chicken breast! Absolutely amazing!! It was delicious and we were thrilled to have finally got our roast. Two staff that truly went above and beyond to make our evening, just fantastic service. All the other staff we came into contact with too were just lovely. You management should be very proud of how they dealt with us tonight, we were bowled over by their kindness and dedication to getting us our roast! A big thank you to the Lord Louis team!! We will definitely be back!!
J. J.3 of us went for breakfast today and coukd not fault it one bit. The manager Neil was very informative and explained how everything would work, he then took us to our table as we had booked online, very pleasant and he joked and made my kids day when they were told there was no limit on the food. The breakfast was amazing, all fresh and the eggs and toast are made in front of you. Both the chef and the manager were happy and helpful sorry if I missed anyone out as I only saw these 2 people. Will be returning and have booked for breakfast next week all ready!!!!
S. H.We booked a corner table for 6.15pm, we turnt up at 6.10pm to a very big que of customers waiting to be seated. When we were finally seated, we were given a table in the middle of the restaurant which made my anxiety bad! There were a few corner areas they could of seated us at but they didn’t. We were told ordering through the app would be quicker but it wasn’t, people who came in after us were getting their drinks first by ordering through the waitresses, we waited around 30/40 minutes for our drinks to arrive and that’s only because we asked where they were. My partner ordered a pint which he enjoyed and I ordered a 7up, it was obvious that the drinks were done and forgotten about as the ice in my drink had melted a lot into tiny bits and was a bit flat.
Food wise, my partner enjoyed his roast the guys that served his roast were really nice and helpful.
I had a bacon cheeseburger, the burger and bbq was lush, it also came with Mayo which wasn’t stated in the description when I ordered through the app nor did it give me the option to remove the Mayo. I don’t like Mayo so therefore lost the salad and half the bap the burger came in.

We were really impressed with the selection of both the cooked full English and the others. We both had the cooked breakfast, the selection was excellent, no waiting, the food was cooked to perfection, with the bacon neither over or under done. The sausages were really nice, and with the "all you can eat" for £4.69, excellent value. We have visited the Lord Louis on several occasions before, and have tried both the carvery, lunchtime menu and the main menu. I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone, the place was clean & tidy, the staff polite and helpful, couldn't ask for more.

The Carvery was fantastic. I can't fault the food in any way. The dropped star is due to poor customer service on entering. COVID restrictions are in place and booking was required. However on arrival at our time we couldn't enter and once we could we were made to feel push through not relaxed. This may of been a one off however I will return as the carvery itself was that good.

I was asked if I wanted to get the large option which to be honest I wasn't expecting to pay over double the price of the regular, but it was huge so not too dissatisfied. I was told that we could return for as much veg as we could manage but one plate load was sufficient for me. Would recommend that they advertise the price for going large a little more but other than that it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

T. S.Have been eating here for over 9 years. It has been hit & miss over the years and still is now but we remain loyal customers as prefer it to anywhere else we've tried and the staff are friendly. My review today was prompted by firstly having to clean our own table as there were no staff around despite the restaurant being extremely quiet, having to hunt around other tables to obtain cutlery and serviettes as there were none on our table (this is quite common) I was then served my carvery by a young man who gave very little meat so asked for a bit more to be told it goes by weight and I cannot have any more (there were no scales present and have never seen any)I only eat beef and it varies greatly how much I'm given but it always is far less than my partner who has the same size carvery as me but different meats. This is the case almost every time we eat here (weekly) my daughter has a child's carvery and she gets more! I think it's time you addressed this. Why do we get less beef? If i were to have all 3 meats i would be given double the amount? Perhaps beef costs More? If this is the case I think the amount you charge more than covers this! Back to the positive....99% of the staff especially the waitresses and the lady carver are fantastic and make us feel so welcome. Would appreciate your feedback

E. P.I visited The Lord Louis yesterday with my partner and I must say WOW. Considering everything that has been going on I just could not see how things were going to work but they smashed it. The man on the door (welsh I think) called us forward asked us to sanitise our hands and took our details. He then took us to table and explained how things would work. We sat at the table and was then invited to order at the bar, I was then served by a blonde haired woman who was very nice and helpful. We grabbed our drinks sat back down. We was then called up to the Carvery deck by the Chef who gave us our choice of meat plated it up and then asked us what veg we would like (usually help yourself). He piled it in and fair play did not hold back. We then left through the fire exit door. Overall experience was amazing I felt clean and safe the entire time and will definitely be returning shortly. 10/10 👏👏 well done Lord Louis X

G. T.Polite staff, great carvery with a choice of gammon turkey or beef even on a tuesday night. Not overcrowded but lots of customers creating a good atmosphere. We were planning to come here often but i am concerned as I am allergic to cayenne which was liberally sprinkled over the cauliflower and so had been transferred to the other dishes as well so there wasn't much i could have this time.
N. H.Reserved a table for 1:15. But no one could find our reserved table. Meat was being hacked at, not carved. No gravy, and veg was sparse. Staff serving the food looked like they both needed a holiday, with a 'can't be asked to be here' attitude. Food was ok, but a little more enthusiasm from staff wouldn't go amiss!!
K. H.Carvery food was really nice, clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Prices on meal deal were good. Parents celebrated their 40th anniversary and were given discount on the final meal which was a lovely gesture. Theres a small play area with telly for the kids. Value for money.

P.Hi was greeted by Karen and another colleague when having breakfast this morning both were alittle frosty to begin with soon was ok we were advised on how to order breakfast and how with some Covid rules still in place how it works, was asked if I wanted mushrooms with my breakfast and was given an extra ticket to hand over when getting my food, but on the hot plate there was no one to be seen and the mushrooms were behind a screen I was able to reach them but not sure other people could the chef I assume popped out occasionally, my 3 friends got there breakfast before me to which then there was no fried eggs left so I went without …… Karen did come and ask us if all was ok with our breakfast which to be fair apart from the egg shortage and difficulty getting to the mushrooms all was very nice ….. I would like however someone to explain to me the reasoning in giving me an extra ticket for the mushrooms and why they were placed behind the screen ?

S. H.A nice place although it seems quite crowded as the tables are so close together aswell as being pushed up next to radiators that are on high. When you have the heat from the kitchen it gets extremely stuffy so much that we had to take in turns to go outside for some fresh air.
The food was lovely really tender meat and all the trimmings lovely indeed . Definitely a nice family place children very much welcomed with colouring to keep them occupied whilst the adults have a chat.
This is a carvery but you can get pizza amongst other foods from the menu and also desserts.
There is a bar area for those amongst us who want to have a drink and watch the sport . There is something for all

C. H.They serve a nice carvery through the week with a good selection of meats and veg. They also serve other food such as pizza but my knowledge isn't extensive on the section of the menu as I've gone for the carvery. They also have live music every now and then which is nice. The bar is pretty standard and decent prices, there is a pool table and a decent sized beer garden.
M. R.Took ages to get served, very slow service. Ordered goats cheese pizza and burger with chips. When we were paged for food, no cutlery available (which was the other side of the pub, nowhere near where you picked your food up) and no napkins. No chips with the burger. You needed to queue up separately to get these from the carvery, which meant your food got cold. Salad dressing had no signs on telling you what was what, so guess work on picking these. Hardly any salad left in the containers. Really disjointed. Food was nice but could have been warmer. The tray which the burger was on was still dirty, covering it with a piece of grease proof paper didn't disguise this. Felt it was a cheap version of harvester and we came away disappointed.

Once you get served, the food is good, large portions but a little bland.
The drinks and beer, (Tribute real ale) is good and well kept.
Tables are cleared but not cleaned between sittings.
V. O.Carvery is good, the beef was lovely and tender but the veg was naff and had already dried out under the lamps and we were the first to arrive! Would have gave 3 stars for the food but the old fella behind the bar is the reason why we return everytime as he is just so lovely and a credit to the pub.

The food on the carvery was a little over cooked which I liked but my partner was disappointed. If you like your food crispy like me id give this place a visit if not there's plenty of other places around.

M. A.For the carvery I cannot fault this place it's lovely and we love coming here. The breakfast however was not so good. After spending a long time going out for breakfasts on the weekends at another place and coming here for the first time it's lacked pastries, cereal, yogurts ect. You only get a cooked breakfast and toast and teas and coffees are extra as are mushrooms which are an extra 89p. It's over priced for what you have on offer. So carvery is excellent but breakfast is a bit of a let down.

Always seems to be full on Saturday evenings with people having meals. This seems to quiet off around 9pm that normally when the band will start.
Very easy access and large carpark. The staff are friendly.

Nevertheless less, it offers good value for money and much of it is all you can eat. Staff are friendly and it appears clean.
At busy times there can be quite a wait which involves queuing.

A traditional carvery with 3 meats and a large selection of fresh veg, in comfortable surroundings and with ample parking. Very reasonably priced and good quality.
If you look past the carvery (and why would you!) There's a fairly comprehensive menu including the Stonehouse pizza range. Welcoming and attentive staff complete the experience.
Lounge area with tv provides a relaxing space to read my book "Professor Harry Parker and the Tunnels of Argonaut Bay" by Steve Pick available on Amazon kindle!
D. A.I just stopped for a pint of Guinness at about 3.30 PM on a Tuesday. It was the first one out the pump that day, and as all Guinness drinkers will know, it was awful, bitter and had those little bubbles in the head. Karen was serving and changed it straight away. The second one was not much better, but Karen persevered and the third was perfect. The moral here is that Guinness does this worldwide, but staff seldom act as calmly and efficiently as Karen did. Five stars for the service. Good price too at £3.55.It was quiet, clean, calming and welcoming. Well done.

S. T. (.Been a while since I was last here, back when it was part of the crown carvery chain. Came here for the breakfast which was pretty much the same as it always was, all you can eat for around a fiver, hot breakfast consisted of Cumberland sausages, fried bread, has browns, bacon, tomatos, beans, chips and fried egg. Mushrooms are extra.
Restaurant was clean, staff were friendly, plenty of seating. Cutlery was dirty however, couldn't find any knives that were clean.
All in all, still one of the best places around to get a breakfast.
