Reviews of The Miners Arms
J. M.
Went with family, had a lovely, time. Sat out side ,so grandaughter could play. Staff friendly. Food delicious.
R. G.
Relaxed and refined pub dining in exquisite scenery - enjoyed the delicious summer special of slow cooked pork belly, apple and grape salad with a blue cheese and walnut topping.
C. D.
Overall okay experience, the food is super tasty and the indoor and outdoor space is beautiful! Only downside is the service, it came across a bit rude/strange, we were asked strange questions while ordering on how much we will be spending etc and the chef might not be able to cook for 5 people. We also had our drinks forgotten after reminding them a few times and it wasn’t busy.
A. B.
Nice food, I had a spicy chicken burger with fries which was delicious and my wife had a margerita pizza which was also very tasty. The menu is very limited, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but we hoped they would serve a roast on a Sunday, which they didn't. That being said, the food they serve is of good quality and there is plenty of seating there - whether it be indoors or out. The most disappointing aspect of our visit was the service. All of the staff were very young and seemed very inexperienced in barkeeping and waiting. There was zero small talk, and where in alot of places you'd get staff who'd do the little things that make for a great experience, none of this was present here. And I'm not putting the staff down for this, I think a little extra training would make the world of difference. All in all, I'd recommend coming here for drinks and food, just don't expect top class service.
L. W.
After a long pause welcome back to the Miners and food. Excellent fresh food, lovely staff. I know the menu is limited but baby steps.... Welcome back, we have missed you!!!! Xxxx
M. R.
Can't speak more highly. Terrific food. Reasonable price and great service. We'll be back
L. K.
Great food, nice pint, kids play area which Is enclosed so they can run riot. Ashamed to say that this was my first visit to this pub while back home for a holiday. Well worth a visit
C. B.
A lovely little pub hidden in a tiny village. Great outdoor area for the kids and large car park. I can imagine if the kids area was done up a little and the pub freshened up it could be a little goldmine!
E. W.
Friendly staff, good food. I really enjoyed my haddock and chips. Great views over the garden and beyond.
a. b.
Very friendly food was lovely and tasty. Good prices cosy pub with log fire
L. C.
Had a really great experience. Food was delicious. Staff friendly. View was beautiful and the beer was cold
C. H.
Nice walk up to the pub through Plympton and over the fields. Our party then spent time in the beer garden/play area. Had a couple of pints of the Sharp's cider, which was very nice. Also had a pint of Ale which was well kept. The pricing was on the slightly high side but not crazy. Would recommend and we will be returning soon.
H. B.
I have found my favourite spot in Plymouth! What a beautiful beer garden with gorgeous views. Ample seating and also an enclosed play park with benches there so I could watch my little girl play whilst having my meal. Really friendly staff. & of course an amazing menu with a good variety of food to chose from. I would recommend the home made beer battered fish finger sandwich. Lots of parking too.
N. W.
After been shut for so long after covid! Went today with a family of 10 great food great atmosphere! The only thing I’d say was the children Mac and cheese could of done with a little more cheese as was dry! But not a complaint just was still nice at all of was eaten would recommend! And can’t wait for summer as was always our go to pub with a play park you really can’t go wrong
L. H.
Huge dining area, lovely friendly pub. Will definitely be back to eat soon.
D. H.
Nice out side beer garden with pleasant views day I visited it was a bit hit and miss with food due to lack of staff which is affecting lots of pubs . Landlady and staff were doing there best so please be patient if paying a visit
A. Y.
Food was nice , fish was stinking though and wasn't eaten. Lovely place to go for kids though and friendly staff
H. G.
Not a very big menu but good food. Nice surroundings.
S. K.
Amazing place! Food quality is out of this world. People are very nice and friendly too.
D. J.
Very friendly little pub serving pasties and cakes, as well as a wide range of real ale etc. Restaurant closed due to staff shortage but still made very welcome.
S. B.
Enjoy every minute of it great atmosphere friendly staff
j. h.
Very friendly staff and pub was spotlessly clean. Food excellent.
B. B.
Food was tasty, staff were welcoming and very friendly. Lovely park to enjoy with the kids or terrace for a cold drink in the sun!
M. B.
Highly recommended
Lovely buffet & drinks
Ideal location
N. P.
A beautiful quaint little pub loved it and the garden area is perfect if you have toddlers... thankyou
K. W.
Arrived for food. Found out after we had found a table that they were not taking food orders due to the kitchen being too busy. Never heard of this I my life! Normal practice would surely be to take orders and inform people of delays.
They eventually took our order. They had ran out of chips. Food arrived, sweet potato fries were cold. Burgers are nice.
Really nice pub and outside play area to keep the child entertained. Which was needed as we had to wait so long to order.
Dog friendly in the bar area.
T. C.
Staff were amazing. Food not so
W. H.
Nice pub, but roast lamb was chewy. Told bar staff but I think it fell on deaf ears as there was no response other than 'I'll let the chef know". My dog enjoyed it, so it wasnt wasted. Doesn't encourage me to eat there again.
A. T.
Nice venue. Great food. Sunday roast didn't disappoint. Will be back.
L. C.
Visited the Miners for a last minute family Christmas meal on 23rd December. Rang to booked and we were very easily seated and confirmed.
We were nicely greeted and seated, waiting staff were tentative and friendly. Happy to accompany 3 children under 3. Food was of great quality, obviously cooked fresh and there was plenty. We order standard roasts and other classis pub meals. Everyone was happy with their choices.
The fish tank was great kids entertainment.
Toliet facilities were clean.
Parking was plentiful.
We often enjoy the pub garden and kids play area although it was too cold on this occasion.
D. B.
A fantastic pub with great views, just a shame it is let down by one member of staffs customer service.
On visiting the pub and ordering food that included chips, in a friendly manner I made the chef aware that the chips were cold.
He had the audacity to laugh at me and doubt what I had said. He did exchange them but I found his service and attitude very poor.
I will go back as the service from all the other colleagues was very good even though they were all very busy.
E. N.
This is such a wonderful old pub and modern restaurant. The pub has some incredibly lovely features including a log fire. It also allows dogs.. they have a playground outside for kids. The staff are friendly. It really is a lovely place which I would come back to any time.
P. C.
Absolutely amazing pub , brilliant staff definitely great food and always made welcome will definitely visit again
D. B.
A family celebration for my daughter's 30th birthday yesterday was fabulous. We all had great meals. Both courses, starters and main meals were cooked well, well presented with great service. I had the chicken and leek pie which was amazing. We will be back soon.
E. F.
We were a party of eleven with 2 children one who is severely glutton intolerant. It was an extremely busy sunday. The meal was barely warm. Not sure if that was due to the high volume of people. Not enough vegetables served for the 9 of us having a roast. Food was lovely. Staff incredible. An amazing play area for children and was lovely to see them all playing in a safe enviroment. We had a lovely day there. Would like to see more glutton free on the menu.
S. C.
Lovely pub, lovely staff. Owners are the biggest knob heads who have no idea how to run a public house. Sadly we see this again and again. People with lots of money who dont pay they're suppliers! Treat staff and locals like dirt. A complete stain on the industry. We can only hope the next owners might well have a clue as how to run a truly historically magnificent pub in a great village!
N. “. L.
The Miner's Arms was an extremely nice place, beautiful restaurant. I must say walking in was a bit weird because no one said anything then we were just waiting around to be seated for a while , after listening to the chefs and other staff chatting away the host came out a sat us from here on everything was nearly amazing , food great (really good) ,the staff were lovely but just non existent at time and we were often left wondering if we'd been forgotten . Never the less we did enjoy the occasion but someone hate s waiting for period may get frustrated quickly
E. V. C.
60th Birthday family meal. Looked after well both before and during the meal. Menu was extensive and to suit most tastes. Food itself was to a high standard and tasted delicious. No complaints from Grandparents through to youngest grandchild. I think my wife and I will be visiting again!!!
K. S.
Nice meal, staff very friendly. I had tomato and mozzarella for starters, four slices of tomato and three of mozzarella with a tiny drizzle of balsamic vinegar, quite small really. Roast pork was lush but the potatoes were hard not in a good crispy way, chocolate brownie with ice cream was nice.
N. H.
There is an old part of this pub that I love and a modern, noisy bit. It serves good food and attracts large family groups. If you want a table for 10 or a beer garden with things for kids to play on, this is the place for you. If you want a cosy table for two, there are better places.
J. B.
Great food, good service, comfortable and nice atmosphere.
S. D.
Child friendly beer garden, quiet location.
We recently attended the Spring Beer and Cider Festival and it was a shambles which was disappointing. They were understaffed, unprepared and lots of people left because of it. Waiting an hour to get served is unacceptable. The great weather was well advertised and the turnout should have been expected but strangely I saw no sign of the "beer and cider festival" when I was there.
Aside from the above negative experience, its a nice pub for when the suns out!
P. M.
We arrived very late, in fact only 15 minutes before they were due to close the restaurant, but never the less could not have been made to feel more welcome.
The food & service was excellent.
If you want to treat yourself you should go there. It really is worth the trip.
t. j.
One of those pubs that seems to have it all. Beautiful views, helpful staff with a good selection of beers and wines even a good coffee to be had and most of all the chef there will blow your taste buds. They'll even cover for private functions.
R. S.
This is a beautiful pub which I highly recommend visiting. This is an example of a traditional pub, which understands the fast-moving and ever-changing world of customer service and hospitality. The scenery here is lovely and is one of favourite parts of the Plymouth area. The staff are very friendly, dedicated and accommodating.
S. P.
Spur of the moment Sunday lunch, meat and Yorkshire pudding were cold, roast potatoes were reheated and dry. Gravy was the tastiest I've had in a long time. Not worth the £15 price for one course when you could get a 3 course Sunday lunch elsewhere for £18.
P. H.
Good food overall although portion sizes maybe a little large and main course vegetables with the duck dish felt thrown together and were a perhaps a little underdone. There is a great area for the kids to play in as well so would definitely go back again.
N. P.
Absolutely lovely county pub. Great traditional pub feel at the front and a luxury dining experience at the back. With far reaching views from the huge beer garden that make it an ideal watering hole for any occasion.
C.
Cracking beer and cider, lovely quiet location and friendly staff. Beer at good prices too!!
A. L.
Really good food with a good choice. Good wine list. Maybe a little pricy, but then you get what you pay for! Nice big restaurant, with views over the hills. I wish they would straighten the clock!
D. B.
Nice food friendly staff
C. W.
Thank you so much it was my 60th birthday the landlord was so lovely. meal was great and to top it all he gave use a bottle of bubble for my birthday I would like to say thank you for making my big day feel special we will definitely be coming back
K. (. S. R.
Lovely little country pub. Very good menu but had a long food wait and little communication from our server, though the manager apologised for the wait when delivering our food. The pub was rather busy so credit to them.
O. N.
Great service, fantastic food. On a nice days there are beautiful views. Would highly recommend. The staff are excellent, chattie and informative. Would recommend. X
M. M.
A bit of a shame, really, as the setting is very nice but the service let it down. There seemed to be a lot of young female staff but they just rushed around manically, delivering food (too) quickly without minimal engagement with customers. The soup we ordered was switched without prior explanation as they had run out. The food was nice but much too pricey for the experience.
M. T.
Great pub and fantastic restaurant which serves delicious food. The garden is beautiful and perfect for soaking up the sunshine while enjoying a refreshing drink! Highly recommended!
l. h.
What a great all round place. Had a bar for the locals, kids play area and a lovely restaurant and separate garden out the back. Food was delicious and staff friendly.
S. H.
1st visit and absolutely fabulous.
Staff wad so nice and pleasant.
No rushing or anything.
Amazing food. Nice play area.
Will be going back
Y.
Lovely pub, great food at a reasonable price, particularly the children's food. Was freezing cold when we were there but I imagine it would be cracking in the summer. Nice playground and a good selection of real ales.
B. T.
A lovely pub with lovely staff and a great all round atmosphere. Child and dog friendly too with nice views. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a nice time or great food
D. A.
Having got delayed on journey googled nearest eaterie. Found The Miners. Very interesting menu not standard pub grub. Cooked fresh and enjoyed by whole party.
D. C.
Nice country pub in a lovely setting. Have visited a few times now and on each occasion it appears under-staffed. Staff ain't the friendliest or happiest either.
A. W.
Good family venue with an exceptional play area for kids. The food is very good as is the service. A very warm and friendly pub
A. D.
The food and atmosphere was second to none, however, waiting far over an hour for food and drinks pulled me to 3 stars, luckily there was one young waitress who was fantastic and stopped to apologise. She redeemed this place alone, well done to her!!
J. L.
Great pub with a wonderful restaurant, tasty food, a beer garden and kids park. Lovely staff and a quirky interior. Truly is a hidden gem.
C. A.
Lovely lunch. Service could have been a bit faster, luckily we weren't in a hurry
Decent moules frit, duck very tasty and the beer not chilled to ruination
L. B.
Fantastic food and beer garden. Modern restaurant but traditional pub feel. Lovely helpful staff. Definitely recommend
m. s.
Great meals and drinks at very reasonable prices , mainly sourced from local produce and companys , stunning views in beer garden . Only downside is the road leading to it as many of the roads in that particular area is quite narrow in places
B. B.
Great restaurant with a down to earth staff, delicious roast meals with great flavor and it's animal/kid friendly. A wonderful hidden gem!
K. S.
Lovely meal and great staff. Came in an evening but would definitely go back with my son as the outside area is great for kids
J.
Lovely setting, outside play area for children and parents, but also a separate quieter area for adults alongside the dining area. Not suitable for wheelchairs inside, elderly may find it a bit awkward if a little unsteady on legs as it's narrow and a few small steps to go from pub area to toilets and restaurant although they could access it through car park.
V. A.
Went here for friends birthday. Great food. Huge choice of wine lovely atmosphere. Will Def return
S. U.
After the refit was feeling a little nervous- don't sit by the back of the conservatory there is a draft from the door. Food is superb we will be back several times!!
L. H.
Delicious fresh food, excellent menu and friendly, efficient staff. Well priced for the quality of meal and service received.
A. G.
Great pub with nice wines, good ales & very good food. More gastro-pub than pub-grub, but if that's your thing then you should be more than happy with what they have to offer.
C. C.
2 beer gardens. One with fenced in park for children. The other offers an outdoor bar with entertainment on occasion. Good food good selection of drinks.
I. L.
Fantastic pub and gardens. The staff are outstanding good food portions and very tasty. Homemade fish fingers were perfect
F. D.
Here for a family birthday, large party. Food was served promptly and everything was delicious. Would definitely recommend here for the food.
M. W.
Nice pub, unfortunately when we last visited it was rather rowdy in the bar, the barmaid said that it was unusually busy that night. Other than that can't fault the place
R. J.
Lovely restaurant with great views, nice gardens with play area for children. Food excellent and staff cheery and very helpful.
L. R.
Our waitress, Shakira was amazing. The food was good and everything looked nice.
But slates are not plates!
J. E.
Beautiful food highly recommended to anyone staying in the area we drove 20 mins to get there, go glad we did!
H. P.
Nice sized pub with comfy sofas and chairs. And it had a massive park for all the kids and the dog could come however had to stay on the lead in the park however we had thought that.
M. E.
Good food, excellent view from dining area but book early as it gets packed out on sunny days.
C. :.
Nice food, large portion sizes. Typical bistro prices and a nice view when sitting in the conservatory restaurant.
M. D.
Splendid new dining room with lovely views across the countryside. Interesting menu and lovely Tungsten Tipple beer.
C. P.
Pie & a pint night 🙂 ( see the posters for details ) the food off the menu is "high-end quality" without the annoying tiny portions of al-a-cart 👍 I know a lot of the "bar customers" too in by the fire out of the British weather .
A. C.
Food was brilliant service was good place is lovely with plenty of parking. I'm definitely going back.
G. D.
Fantastic food, fantastic staff and good prices
The only thing that stopped it being 5 stars were sticky tables and a few cobwebs
L. W.
Slipping in quality, care and general ambience sadly... Hopefully next time it's back to it's high standards
A. J.
Foods brilliant just takes a good while to come. Nice vibe and has been good in the past. Just this time it let itself down.
C. E.
Pleasant settings inside and out. Excellent food and service. Good play area for young children.

Food ok but is not as good as it used to be. Bar service by young bar man who knows absolutely nothing about wine or spirits. He admitted this.

Had the best meal we’ve had for ages. Beef stroganoff for my husband and aubergine roulade for me. Such a nice change for the veggie option NOT to be mushroom risotto or something with goats cheese. This was absolutely delicious and we really felt the chef cared about how his food tasted and not just the presentation. Desserts also couldn’t be faulted. Waitresses friendly and efficient. Would go back there definitely.
