Reviews of The Ship Inn
J.
I have been going to The Ship Inn for many many years and despite its various evolutions it has been consistently excellent, Watch the tide as the car park is in the mouth of the Yealm, the pub gives tide times if you're unsure. The venue is immaculate, as are the facilities. The surrounding cliff top circular walks are stunning and a must.
B.
The Ship Inn has lovely views, we had the haddock that was great and very filling the sitting area is spacious and dog friendly with bowls for water scattered about.
Very relaxed and will definitely go there again before we go staff friendly and helpful.
L. H.
Lovely setting, especially in good we rather. We only sat outside for an ice cream but did walk through the inside of the pub which was very attractive.
In the hope weather and sunshine one could have been in the South of France!
K. M.
Visited for a late lunch, early dinner. Food was served very quickly. My husband and daughter both had the roast dinner which was served very hot. Plenty of meat and both said how good it was. I had the chicken curry which was also very tasty. Had a table upstairs with a great view over the harbour. Reasonably priced.
J. A.
Lovely pub, liked the interior layout, table spacing is well arranged, great outdoor eating area with views over the river and village. Food is always excellent.
C. B.
Lovely meal today for lunch in the Glass House, this is a beautiful place to sit and people watch and gaze at the estuary.
The 3 pot fish starter was delicious, particularly the mackerel, the tempura prawn plentiful and the pate was lovely
I'd say the starters were better than the main course, which was a very nice fish and chips but the starters were a cut above
Delicious crispy batter and moist fish, we really liked the mushy peas and tarter sauce
Too full for dessert!
We really enjoyed the vibe and the staff are attentive and friendly
W. Y.
Visiting the area we popped in with a view to getting something to eat. We were made very welcome and advised we would be given a table as soon as possible. Drinks ordered and shown to our table overlooking the estuary. Food was of a very good quality and all staff on duty were very helpful and polite.
The good we order included the Sunday roast, fish and chips and steak pie. All meals were delicious.
This is a very busy establishment and although we didn't have a reservation I recommend you book a table.
S. U.
Loved it - old world charm, right on the estuary with a reasonably priced menu.
Would have liked to have stayed longer but just went there for coffees.
S. G.
Lovely pub in a great location. Friendly and welcoming service. Great food and reasonably priced.
H.
Lovely pub restaurant with stunning views. Good varied menu and friendly service. Plenty of outside seating. Would recommend booking a table rather than just turn up as it's very popular. Equally good on a hot summers day, or cold winter night.
L. K.
Very dog friendly, great menu with interesting dishes. Speedy service and nice staff. In a beautiful place too!
A. P.
The location is picturesque and quaint. There is a lovely circular walk in the area that takes about 2h. The food is well-presented and delicious. I had venison and the portion on meat was very generous.
Not sure if I happened to come in on a day when they were exceptionally understaffed, but the service was very slow. This obviously isn't an issue if you're not in a hurry. :)
Parking can be a nightmare. There is a National Trust car park about 20 minutes away or a tennis courts car parks a few minutes away, which is often full. On-street parking is very scarce. The drive to Noss Mayo can be difficult for a larger car or an inexperienced driver.
Dog-friendly.
D. B.
We always pop here for dinner since we first visited Noss Mayo to take photos of the town. Now, if it's on the way back to Plymouth after a day of photos, we head here for dinner.
Great food. Friendly staff. Amazing views.
Cheers, from the guys with the big cameras 😂
D. M.
Excellant food and service today for a party of 21. Well recommended. Lisa the owner could not be more helpful. The Ship Inn is a regular venue for us especially after taking in the sea and river views and beautiful local walks. You will not be disappointed.
J. P.
Handled a big group visiting with apparent ease. Steak cooked to perfection (rare) and rest of the group happy with their meals. Good selection of local ale's on offer, nice atmosphere and decent prices.
E. G.
From visiting here many times over the last 10 years, it has always been a reliable choice, however the food had definitely moved from verging on gastro pub, to definite pub grub. But it remains a great choice for dog walkers, families and sunny afternoon visits to enjoy the location!
C.
Lovely meal here on Friday. Service and food always excellent!
1. P.
Such a nice pub, with great views and lovely staff
C. P.
A beautiful coastal inn with a great menu and fine views. Parking is a major problem.
a. s.
Excellent food and good selection of wine and beer. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The Ship Inn has a lovely atmosphere and is full of interesting ship instruments. I'll be back again soon.
j. m.
Nice view quick and tasty food from a good menu and plenty of choices of drinks. I think I'll frequent the place. Hope to see you there one day!
A. M.
We visited on a number of occasions during our two week stay in Noss Mayo, either for drinks or dining. The food is very good, the location is fabulous, but for me the major draw of The Ship is the members of staff; intelligent, perceptive and polite. The owners have a huge asset in the young people they employ. For prospective restauranteurs, go visit The Ship to see them at work and see what customers value
C. J.
Wonderful pub. We only had a quick visit. Would love to spend hours there watching the tide come in. Great staff. Very nice Cider
J. M.
Had a lovely meal tonight. Friendly staff who couldn't do enough to make us comfortable. Food was fabulous too. Also dog friendly. Will be back again soon.
R. H.
Great food lovely portion sizes, had the trio of fish, fish and chips and waffle. Service was great and they let us move tables, bring cash if you want to tip as their card machine does not take tip
E. B.
Lovely atmosphere, staff were very polite and attentive, food was excellent especially the desserts and nice big portions. Outside courtyard area is very cute with views on the creek.
R. O.
Beautifully located, excellent food and service. 10/10.
We did not book and manged to get a table outside where we had starters and mains. It started to get a bit cold and we asked if we could move inside for out desert/coffee and the staff on the case immediately.
A lovely place for a romantic dinner.
A. D.
A beautiful location nice food and staff.
Seating areas are plenty and lovely outside spaces. Our walking group love ending our day there.
P. F.
Fantastic views of the river lovely food and. Great selection of beers and the staff made you feel very welcome this is a must place to go
A. B.
Great location, friendly, good pub food and ale 👍
R. S.
Top points for the best pub in the area, we had dinner and morning coffee here and it has it all... The views, the food, the drinks, the service and the most friendly and relaxed atmosphere. A slice of devonish heaven ❤️ thank to the Ship team, you're doing a sterling job!
R. W.
Fantastic food, atmosphere and staff. We went there twice in one day!
S. S.
Excellent service. Food superb. Best Haddock, chips n mushy peas we've had for awhile. Covid restrictions managed very well with good hygiene observed. Well done to all staff there for a pleasant experience. 👍👏👍
T. P.
The first pub visit after lockdown and a great location to celebrate my 30th! A really spacious and welcoming outside area with loads of tables. Great views of the river and a good selection of ales. Service was friendly and snappy. Will always remember the Ship and will always come back.
R. S.
Charming pub in picturesque location. Excellent, reasonably priced menu. Selection of local real ales including two from the microbrewery in the village. Service a little slow on a busy Sunday lunchtime but they were catering for a large party. Parking could be a problem at high tide.
N. P.
Food was amazing a nice variety of choice and I am lactose intolerant and they were happy to change certain things on the menu for me which was really nice of them 😊
A. B.
Can see it just across the water there. Take your parents to the ship and your mates to the swan.
D. B.
Good food, reasonable beer, did not like the Noss Myo beers, a bit flat and lacking flavour, but that's just me.
A. F.
Great place. Menu a bit pricey for what you get but a lovely relaxing venue.
T. B.
Amazing place, surrounded by beautiful views. The restaurant clean, well kept & tidy. One of our favourite places to eat as the food is top notch & it is dog friendly. Top marks all round, you won't find a better pub restaurant.
C. G.
Great place to relax outside. Very good food, nice wine selection nice views and good service.
N. W.
I was lucky enough to have lunch at the Swan recently and have to say it was a very pleasant experience indeed.Really nice people and excellent food and beer.we sat in the outside area overlooking the river ,it was very enjoyable. Just a very good pub.Great job.
D. J.
Truly an oasis of tranquility! Lovely pub. Possibly the best cup of coffee I've had in many a year. Will return soon to sample their menu!
C. S.
We arrived at the Ship Inn to a very warm & friendly welcome. The decor is great throughout & dining in the bridge area felt like the ward room of an 18th century warship. We ordered roasts - then learnt roast lamb was available & thankfully able to change one of our orders - which was handled really well & was no trouble at all. Food was very hot, tasty & generous portions. A great experience & we'll definitely return when we visit again!
B. H.
Decor and service where good but I'm afraid the food was not up to standard. Order the steak and kidney pie and we receive a slice of pastry on top of kidney, maybe one piece of meat. The spicy chicken burger was over done, which is very disappointing as we love the Ship Inn.
M. F.
Fabulous pub, with stunning views of the river & village. Good food & excellent service.
I. S.
A fantastic experience. Such a beautiful venue and delicious food. However there was only 1 vegan option on the menu! And no vegetarian options, this was a bit mind boggling to me as most places give you the choice. After talking to the waitress you CAN have the curry there without chicken, although this isn't specified on the menu. Overall thoroughly enjoyed, however add another couple of veggie options! Maybe a halloumi burger or add the vegetarian/vegetable curry to the menu!
L. R.
Love this place. It serves great food in a relaxed atmosphere. I even had a selection of gluten free meals to choose from and more than one dessert. Worth the drive through the lanes to get to it. Great after doing the circular walk up the estuary and along the coast path.
J. G.
One of my favourite pubs. Wonderful location at Noss Mayo. We enjoyed a family occasion in the conservatory. The food and service were excellent.
S. C.
Wow what a great pub, fantastic food, reasonably priced, increadible stylish surroundings both inside and out plus lovely friendly staff
E. M.
Always love to dine at the Ship Inn when in UK. Great food, drinks and lovely atmosphere!
A. B.
Good beer, great food and very good service. The bar staff and table staff did a fantastic job of keeping us in beer and food.
l. b.
Beautiful setting and tasty well presented food however the Ship Inn has a very poor menu for vegetarians - only main course is nut roast.
O. R.
Delicious food, friendly staff, idyllic location. Top choice for family celebrations and treats. Highly recommended.
D. S.
Great food, great location, great staff, reasonably priced. Excellent.
A. J.
Fabulous place lovely food and great staff. It was just a shame there was a hkrre dous diversion in place and took an age to get into noss mayo. Was worth it eventually though
A. G.
The atmosphere of the Inn is lively but relaxed, making it a welcoming environment. The food is good for the price and well presented.
A. B.
Great service by Team. Reece really helpful with something specific to eat as vegetarian. Great food and service thanks
S. b.
Absolutely fantastic
Food outstanding. so fresh served with a smile.Excellant value for money
K. v. Y.
This was a great place to have brunch. The view of the town was absolutly stunning. If you wait long enough then you will be able to walk where the water used to be and if you go and have brunch here you will see the water level slowly sink which is an amazing sight to see. The food here was amazing. I had the homemade burger which was a really large burger with one of the most thick burgers i have ever seen. It also has bacon cheese and vegtables. All in all I think this place is amazing to go to and have lunch after or before you explore the town and the area.
D. F.
Great food and service. Will be going back.
E. C.
Lots of tables outside and in. Managed to get one on first floor covered balcony, but once school holidays start it may be better to book. Friendly staff. Good menu, a bit pricey, but quality good. Fine to have just a starter. Great views.
R. K.
High standards as always over the last 10 years that we have been coming to the Ship - it is a local legend and engine room for tourism in the area. Great food, ales and wine. Fresh, tasty food in big portions. Friendly, efficient service and often fully booked so recommend booking in advance. Lovely walks nearby including a 4.5 mile - 1.5-2 hour circuit up the creek and over the cliffs and back - a great way to build an appetite before your meal !
A. H.
Fantastic food, friendly staff and what a view. Plenty of tables outside and dogs welcome
K. J.
It's a lovely place to visit, the staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food is amazing !
E. C.
Beautiful views at high tide, lovely service and a nice experience driving down and visitors. It’s nice to sit and watch the tide change. When the tide’s low, there’s extra parking!!!! 🤪
E. W.
Beautiful spot....magical in the evening with all the fairy lights and a go to for a plate of whitebait. When tide is high can paddleboard and fish from the side....kids entertained, thanks!!!
D. G.
A lovely pub, right next to the water. The menu is good and an excellent range of drinks is available. Parking can be difficult in the village but there's a good sized tidal car park right outside. Just be sure to understand how the sea works and find out what time high tide is expected before you visit! An advantage of this is a natural limit on the number of visitors who would otherwise overwhelm the village. I hope I'll have an opportunity to visit again.
C. M.
Popped in for a bite to eat on a walk around the coastal path of Noss Mayo. Service was a bit slow but excusable with there also being a large wedding party at the venue. The food was really nicely presented and very well cooked, really enjoyed our meals and desserts. Would highly recommend and would visit again.
T. B.
Great place.we finished our walk there. Food is really good, reasonably priced and staff are friendly and helpful. We have been there several times and have always had a warm welcome.
A. B.
I had the most delicious roast beef lunch on Sunday. Even though the pub was very busy, the staff were so friendly and courteous, and my friend and I only had to wait 5 minutes for our food to be served. Highly recommend.
T. M.
Awesome pub. Very very hard to beat. The staff are amazing.
D. B. &. S. H.
Lovely Inn on the side of the estuary in Noss. Looked after very well but the attentive staff. Great menu choices and very accommodating for gluten free and dairy free diets. Will definitely be back soon.
J. H.
Great food (especially afternoon tea), with a nice location. When booking it's best to ask for a table in the bridge if you can get one. Can be fairly expensive
J. H.
After a lovely walk around the headland we visited The Ship Inn for lunch. As we are visiting and do not live locally, this was our first visit. Everything about the experience was 5 star - the pub, ambience and setting is fabulous, staff all very lovely, smiley and deliver excellent customer service. The food was just great and the best thing - a proper paper menu not an app on the phone. We were a party of five and all really enjoyed the whole experience and would absolutely recommend !
S. B.
What a wonderful find, overlooking the river with a very large terrace to take in the stunning views, food was fantastic, service just great and dog friendly to boot
k. h.
We went here on 7th Septmeber 2021. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The pub itself was lovely. Very clean. They were very accommodating as we had a dog and it was too hot outside. The food was outstanding. The lamb rump cooked to perfection. Cannot wait to go back. Would thoroughly recommend
S. B.
Great food, friendly staff, amazing views.
E.
The Ship is a reliable venue for good food, good drinks selection, excellent service and great views. Visit in summer and sit outside!
J. W.
Great service, food excellent and a super location. What's not to like ?
F. H.
Lovely spot for some summer evening drinks. Hubby and I just enjoyed a nightcap with some pretty views across the water. Friendly staff, and a good selection of gins and ales: just what we were looking for!
L. F.
Delicious cream tea with a beautiful view. We got there for 11am so it wasn't that busy but I imagine it gets heaving on the weekend when the weather is nice.
L. P.
Idyllic location at the end of a tidal estuary. Park on the slipway and it is wise to wear wellies as an incoming tide could cause concern. Staff are very hard working and have a joy to serve you. If you like gin, you can choose from a wide choice including the Plymouth Gin. Fresh fish delivered in the morning, despite the tide.
All in all a great pub with that essential local feel.
H. P.
I've been visiting The Ship many times over the years and have never been disappointed. Food, drink, atmosphere and location are excellent. Parking can be limited at high tide and you must be careful not to get caught out.
B. M.
Delicious food, amazing veggie option, lovely venue
A. C.
We had an excellent meal here from the specials board. The service was attentive and friendly. The photos of the profiteroles that I had for pudding and are my favourite do not do them justice!
J. A.
This is without doubt my favourite pub anywhere. Excellent food, great selection of beers, terrific staff in a location to die for. And they do food all day, none of the stopping food at 2.30pm which happens at too many pubs.
S.
This little treasure was a first visit for a birthday treat. What a beautiful setting and the food was second to none as was the exellent service. All staff were so lovely and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely frequent and highly recommend.
J. G.
Good food good service reccomend if you want a nice meal in an excellent pub
p. m.
Beautiful Inn to relax, eat, drink and enjoy the view.
J. R.
Good friendly service. Couple of starters for a light lunch is a good alternative to a main.
r. g.
The food and services was amazing the staff are friendly highly recommend this venue to everyone visiting...the mint mush person was so delicious and tasty....I recommend a meal with these mushy peas.... the chef did an amazing job best so far
A. K.
Had lunch at The Swan 4 times during our week long stay in Noss Mayo. Would have been more but they currently aren't open lunch times on Mondays or Tuesdays. Food was very good, staff very friendly and even during their very busy times they do their best to get you a table. Booking is definitely recommended as is dining at The Swan 👍
S. T.
Really nice place in a glorious setting but on the expensive side with no real light bite options.
J. G.
My family had a lovely lunch here. The staff are all very friendly and the service was good even though they looked very busy. The food was excellent, for starters I had the chicken satay as did my wife. My daughter had the goats cheese tart, all were very good. For main course I had the steak and kidney pie which was delicious, my wife had a chicken curry and my daughter had a vegetarian dish. I finished with the chocolate torte and my wife and daughter had the trio dessert selection. All in all a fabulous lunch.
A. W.
Lovely food, great service in a perfect location.
M. M.
Great views and really cozy, great service
D. B.
Attended a wedding reception here yesterday evening. The staff were amazing and very accommodating. The buffet was delicious and the setting amazing. Couldn't reccomend the Ship enough, it would have 10 stars, if that were possible. Thank to you all at The Ship !!!
R. R.
Visited as first meal out after lockdown. Rang in advance and although unable to book a table was reassured that walk ins would easily be accommodated. Plenty of tables on arrival, excellent service and lovely food. Great gin selection and recommendations from our server. Good COVID measures in place, felt appropriate and safe. With regret I failed to have cash for a tip and missed adding it on my card otherwise I'd have liked to have tipped generously, the service was so good and friendly. This is a beautiful spot, lovely menu and felt like a special place for any occasion. Well worth a visit!
P. B.
I love the Ship Inn at Noss Mayo. Good food, friendly service, great views, and happy memories, it was the first date for my now wife and I over 14 years ago
C. O.
We had a lovely meal here but be warned, it's popular and was fully booked inside and outside is not bookable. We got there early and managed to get a table for 6. The kitchen also closes for outside tables without warning. By the time we went to order dessert the kitchen was closed for new arrivals.
M. G.
What a super pub. Wonderful food. Very friendly staff. Beautiful position in Moss Mayo.
T. H.
Super team, lovely surroundings great meal
S. B.
Absolute pleasure to have our first pub lunch in over a year at The Ship Inn. Food lovely and we appreciate smaller portions for smaller appetites. The stand out are the staff who were friendly and professional. Highly recommend.
D. G.
Great food, great service and great location. Perfect!
D. H.
Super pub & lovely food. But this time of year, please put the heating on!! Don’t expect to sit having Sunday Lunch with my coat on!
S. B.
We had a fantastic meal here while holidaying in Devon. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Everything was clearly freshly prepared and beautifully presented. I also enjoyed one of a selection of locally brewed real ales. Two courses, with drinks, for five people came to just under £140, which was very good value for the standard of food provided. I thoroughly recommend The Ship Inn.
J. R.
Lovely food, lovely setting!!
Staff friendly and helpful, thank you.
G. L.
Suburb lunch with our group in the lovely orangery - much enjoyed.
M. L.
Visited The Ship while making a visit to noss mayo, while on holiday in Devon the veiw over the harbour was stunning. Sat outside lovely and sunny. Food and drink is 4stars staff very friendly and helpful. If you are in the area it's well worth a visit
B. H.
We are staying in the area for a week and did a short coast walk around to Warren point caught the foot ferry over the estuary and went to noss mayo fantastic hidden gem a bit like salcombe but without the lord and lady farquars however we went to a pub for some lunch. The Ship now this place was brilliant myself my wife and our 5 month old pup (dogs allowed) we were welcomed on entrance the first thing that caught my eye was the decor lots interesting nautical bits and pieces but all very clean and tidy, plenty of friendly and interactive staff. Now as for the food fantastic a good selection on the menu we both decided to go for the roast lamb rump lovely cut of meat this came with roasted veg quarter roast red onion dauphinoise potatoes and a redcurrent and rosemary gravy, mouth watering food and good price two meals two pints 48pounds worth every penny
S. W.
Highly recommended. Finished a 12km circular walk here taking in some fantastic coastline. Had starters and desserts for a lunch food was delicious. Would recommend the fish trio, whitebait and the chocolate torte, best desert I've had in ages.
Great views outside and good selection of drinks and beers.
Some covid precautions in place like hand sanitiser and one way system but would like to see qr code scanning for track and trace (gdpr) and visors for the servers, plus queue system for outside tables making sure they get cleaned between sittings as its a bit of a free for all.
V. T.
A lovely little gem in Noss Mayo, serving local beers and a very high quality menu of food.
J. R.
Had a meal this evening and as always It was excellent. The staff were so friendly and pleasant it was a credit to the establishment. Each year we come to Devon we always visit as the food is second to none. We both had the Rump steak and it was perfect, as was our starter and desert.
This place is a MUST.
M. A.
Great local Inn, good food & excellent atmosphere (staff were very helpful)
L. A.
Great food, friendly staff and tasty ale. A great checkpoint pub for the coastal walks.
C. C.
Lovely pub just on the Creek. Staff very busy with new regulations and table service only meant waiting a fair while and having to approach a member of the team to place our order.
I appreciate that this is the new normal now, so I can't mark the place down for it.
M.
We booked for an evening meal last Sunday and were not disappointed. The superb setting and location cannot be beaten locally. The staff were pleasant and helpful, the food lived up to it’s usual excellent standard. We look forward to visiting again as it’s our favourite place to take friends or family when they visit.
J. H.
Great Food and family ambiance.
Thanks for a lovely meal and service.
L. ..
Very good, pleasant surroundings and staff. Excellent meal
L. K.
Food is really good and well priced. Setting is lovely too. Gets very busy in the summer. Parking can be a problem so give yourself plenty of time to find a parking place.
J. G.
Really tasty food and great sticky toffee pudding, yum! The staff were very pleasant and professional. We'll be back.
c. s.
stumbled across this pub while moored in the Yelm. couldn't fault it. fantastic view from outside dining area, warm, cosy interesting interior design and amazing food at quite reasonable prices.
S. W.
A real gem. Lovely location, friendly and helpful staff and best of all, delicious restaurant quality food at pub prices.
Cannot recommend highly enough.
H.
Pleasant happy place with great food and a peaceful view of the river. Free parking - just watch out for the incoming tide! Dog friendly.
I. L.
Great food and service as always, and dog friendly too. Will be back again soon. The only disappointing thing was the weather, so it wasn't the best day to enjoy the stunning location.
T. J.
Beautiful site, great pub and good views and food. Staff very pleasant
S.
We had a brilliant meal here between Christmas and New Year. Would recommend the fish and chips! They had quite a few members call in sick that day but the service was fantastic and everyone was really friendly and in high spirits despite this.
We managed to squeeze onto a table and the food arrived quickly and was delicious!
The pub is in a beautiful setting and was a lovely cosy setting in the winter but looked like it would be as equally nice in the summer with a lovely patio outside looking at a spectacular view! Thank you for a great time.
M. S.
Picturesque village lovely pub great food along with great walks makes a perfect place to go
G. C.
Great food beautiful location skate wing was massive
M. L.
Popped in to the Ship on our way home for dinner. Such a lovely venue for dinner with views over the river.
Service was fast and staff were very polite. Food was amazing and so glad I went for the lamb over the burger.
Watch the tide if your parking there as it can creep up on you.
R. D.
Beautiful location, great food, great beer, lovely staff. It's not easy running a pub during Covid but hats off to The Ship Inn - they had excellent Covid precautions but not once did it intrude on our enjoyment of our meals and coffees.
We used the pub for the whole of the week we stayed in Noss Mayo, and really enjoyed visiting it. The view when sat outside with a beer or drink is superb. Cannot fault.
Hats off to everyone who works there and who is working so hard to make customers feel safe but also have a great time. Thank you!
P. J.
Fantastic location especially at high tide and in the sun.
Good choice of drinks and food menu. Menu split between Main and Bar food options. Sadly my bar portion, pie, was on the small side. Book early to ensure a good table.
A. B.
Had a wonderful family lunch there
R. B.
Fantastic location even though driving there can be daunting. Great staff excellent food and a lovely coastal walk available afterwards to work off the calories. Thanks.
L. H.
Fantastic service and great ambience. We booked a table for 6 for a wedding anniversary and were given a great window seat with views over the water. Food was slightly less impressive than anticipated after the glowing reviews we’d heard from others, but still pretty good. For the kids they offer small portions of most adults mains, however despite assurances that a chicken curry could be made mild enough for children, it was too spicy for them to eat so we had to order a second round of kids meals. Couldn’t fault the service, had a great chat with our waiter about the car park which disappears in Spring tides. A lovely location, will come again in summer so we can sit outside.
R.
Stopped in with family for a lovely meal and drinks. Found a nice table outside with views over the water. Fantastic place to visit.
L. D.
Good food, nice staff.
C. M.
Delightful spot on the creek. Warm welcome good food and well served beer, plenty of outdoor and inside space, not crowded on a Friday night.

Great location and views. Clean, dog friendly and staff very friendly. Wide range of drinks both soft and good local ale choice. Never eaten here but only given 4 stars as although food we have seen looks very good feel that from personal point view some choices very limited. Only choice 4 different banquets and bein this close you would expect prawn or crab but no. A little disappointing but wouldn't stop me from going back for relaxing drink
T. G.
Busy pub with a rather average beer selection. The one local beer they had on tap was warm, bitter and almost not drinkable.
M. M.
Exceptionally good meal at The Ship Inn. Food excellent. Reasonable value. Lovely spot. Lots of outside tables. Perfect.
M. B.
Well organised, good food and drink, good atmosphere, great setting.
N. R.
Wonderful meal on Saturday night. I had a ribeye steak and my wife had a skate wing. Very efficient service and food cooked to perfection. Very busy but this did not effect the service. The staff work so hard to keep you happy. Well done.
C. a. J. H.
Lovely place to sit and eat lunch in the sun. They serve good food with small meals on certain items on the menu available.
C. K.
Consistently excellent. We have been dozens of times as a family of 5 and not once have we been unhappy with service or the food. The atmosphere is great and the location is idyllic. Can't wait for my next meal!
P. E.
We dropped in without a reservation and found a table without problem - though in summer we know it gets busy. Staff very friendly, expert and efficient in their work - service really couldn't have been better. Food delicious - especially the trio desert. My pint was a bit off and the waiter heard me comment to my wife as he walked past - immediately offered to change it so problem solved. A bit on the pricey side for a pub but considering the range and quality of food, classy yet informal service, fantastic location (careful where you park your car if the tide is coming in - we watched an unwary driver paddle to his vehicle just before the water reached critical level!) this is a top value place. Highly recommended.
A. B.
We had a delicious meal sitting overlooking the water. Service was prompt and discreet. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended. Be warned, the portion sizes are very generous and the chips and irresistible!
P. C.
A fabulous location, the Ship Inn is a clean, well appointed and picturesque pub with an excellent menu. The food is delicious, staff are polite and helpful, it's well worth a visit, certainly when the weather is good and you can sit outside.
J.
Amazing. Beautiful setting. Lovely place. Food was wonderful. Really gorgeous day today and the place was heaving. Impossible to staff up for as came out of the blue. Staff were obviously stressed but it did not reflect in the service or quality of food. Well done everyone. Not many places would have coped as well. It was our first time but we will definately by returning and spreading the word.
S. N.
Sunday lunch at The Ship Inn was amazing and served hot and it stayed hot. Staff friendly and lovely. Definitely recommend xx
A. C.
Family run pub at the top end! If you are asked by someone "Where is there a good place to eat around here?"..you can relax by recommending this one. It has atmosphere, superb choice of menu, and the staff take pride in their work.
P. T. (.
This is a lovely family run bistro. The waitresses are lovely and the food is absolutely amazing, from classics to more ordinal food it is all amazing and tastes delicious . Great service all around. The atmosphere is wonderful. Great for anyone from small numbers to family's of large numbers, they serve all. I haven't found a fault. It is lovely. A must go to!
M. G.
What a nice place to visit. Excellent menu, reasonable prices, good service, and a super location. A great night out.
S. C.
Really nice atmosphere, and great local beer. Thanks Steve
A. M.
Pulled in on the boat at the Ship at Noss.... fabulous setting and service was very good seeing as it was so busy.. only downside is that I'm not a fan of the HAPPY SHOPPER mayonnaise and tomato ketchup that they served!
O. M.
Very nice pub on the water that also serves pretty decent food. The parking at the pub and in nos mayo is pretty poor though. Better to arrive by boat when the tides right if you can. It's a good meeting place for a drink before a walk round to cellar beach (25 min walk) and has a very nice outdoor seating area for chilling out on the water.
P. H.
Absolutely amazing place! Top food Top views and amazing atmosphere
A. H.
A lovely pub in a picturesque setting. I had an excellent steak and kidney pie. Heartily recommend coming here. The roads are a bit tight and the parking is always scarce. But well worth a visit.
c. d.
Beautiful Noss Mayo, great pub, great beer!! ⭐
R. B.
Absolutely wonderful lunch. The setting, the service and the food was excellent. Can't wait to return.
m. s.
As a family we had lunch here today, lots of staff, polite and friendly. Food was exceptional and good value for money. A real pleasure, will visit again soon. Matt & family.
k. k.
Great food with some heavy showers 😀
A. T.
Lovely food. Great seevice. Rational prices. Wonderful environment. However, it was a bit cold; that's why we couldn't stay long.
J. K.
Whenever we go for a few days to South Devon we always go to the Ship. One of the best places to eat. Lovely environment... really good food with a varied but unpretentious menu. Check tide times if parking right nearby as some places are in the tidal estuary. Really recommend a visit.
S. L.
Lovely staff and lovely food and service will definitely go their again
K. D.
Stopped off at the pub for a drink and some food after a lovely walk along the coast path. Love this pub. Right by the river. Gorgeous food and lots of room out in the beer garden. Could have sat there all afternoon. Staff were also very polite and friendly. Can't fault it
S.
Fantastic pub. Really really like the food here. The views really are lovely. It's much a local pub. However, it is very welcoming.
They have a good range of drinks including beer from local brewery's.
The place is perfect for sitting outside on a sunny day and enjoying a drink.
Highly recommended.
E. S.
Always fantastic food , very friendly staff and fabulous setting . A place once visited you will be sure to return too , again and again, and again .
S. M.
Lovely food great location wonderful staff
M. S.
Lovely little village pub/restaurant. Had our Christmas meal here and the food was absolutely delicious. All came out relatively soon after the last course and always hot. The front of house staff and waiting staff I couldn't fault always happy to help and polite and all done with a genuine smile.
P. C.
Friendly staff ,good range of food to choose
From ,although cod had sold out
.but enjoyed the meal we had.
M. M.
Lovely food on waterside location. Excellent service. Recommended.
N. H.
Great place which is consistently excellent. Operating normally at the end of July 2021 following lifting of pandemic restrictions, which was a pleasure to experience after all this time!
j. s.
Great staff, helpful, attentive and friendly. Good choice of home cooked menu with small or large size brilliant. And a good choice of proper beer. My Number one pub. Best value.
A. S.
Another lovely old pub in this area.
Food, beer and wine were all excellent, with very helpful staff.
j. h.
Great venue , good service - average food
T. C.
Great food nice surroundings would have been 5stars if they would have had proper glasses for the lager as ale glasses don't work for lager
T. S.
A friendly Inn in an idyllic setting, within a picturesque Devon village, on a tidal river tributary. The scenery was breathtaking and paradise for boat lovers. The lanes down to the village of Noss Mayo were extremely narrow in places, but well worth the journey. The carpark was free, but tidal which could be tricky if one wasn't aware of this fact!
The food at The Ship Inn was absolutely delicious, and the portions of beautifully cooked fish and chips were enormous.
Certainly well worth a visit at any time of the day or evening.
A. G.
Despite being incredibly busy, the staff were very friendly & efficient & the food, very tasty. Beautiful spot on the Yealm
A. J. B.
Wonderful pub. I would love to go back one day. Lovely interior and sitting outside one can wonder at the amazing tidal drama going on outside. At low tide, some people take a risk a park their cars outside (some cars have been known to float away when tide returns). Food portions are vfm.
J. M.
Lovely pub, amazing food and lovely location. Shame it seems impossible to get a table unless you book a very long time in advance. Other than that cannot fault.
N. H.
Lovely pub really good meal can't say a thing bad about it also dog friendly by the looks of it. Views from the bridge should be spectacular in the summer. You can cross to the Swan Inn and across to Newton Ferrers via a causeway when the tide is out.
H. B.
Stunning location, beautiful decor, well rounded menu with something for everyone. Food beautifully presented and cooked. Staff polite, helpful and easy going. A top place to eat or even just a drink in any one of the cosy areas.
C. L.
A secluded pub with a very nice atmosphere, rustic i'd say. Kitchen is right behind the bar so you will see the food preparation. If you get by car on the street keep in mind that you will not be able to turn around so park at the beginning of the entrance of the street and walk 1 min. It will save you a lot of hussle. I recommend this place if you want to get away from traffic and be somewhere next to the water.
E. 1.
Delicious food and good service after a nice walk along the cliffs - it's nice to be able to eat at a nice place after being in the cold! Nice rustic decor too. Would recommend highly.
N. K.
We originally booked a meal at the ship and one at the swan on our 7 day break. We booked the ship in first and it was a fantastic meal every course was delicious and as we were a group of 4 we had a tried selection. On the day of the swan meal we had a phone call to say it was quiz night and only sandwiches so we cancelled, as we were all hiking the coastal path we decided to drop in to the ship and book again. This wasn't a problem and we were all excited to have a different choice from the menu. Again a fantastic meal good size portions and a desert to die for, brilliant staff. This made for a very pleasurable week in Noss mayo. Thanks to the ship Inn.
j. a.
One of the best bars on a day like yesterday
D. E.
Amazing food and location, right on the edge of the water. You can access it via a crossing at low tide (but take your boots as it can be muddy). Drive across but beware it's a very narrow drive and it much parking at the tennis court.
M. H.
Good food, and a delightful setting - arrive early if you hope to sit outside!
B. W.
Beautiful location and great venue with good food and good service. My favourite pub in Noss Mayo, and well worth stopping by after a stroll along the coastal path. A classy pub with well kept beer selection. Be aware that the car park immediately in front by the water is within the intertidal zone and almost completely floods at high spring tide.
c. h.
You can tell it is owner ran brilliant
J. V.
A very friendly and warm welcome awaits you and the food and service is first class. I must mention Charlie who works so hard and always has time to make your night feel so special. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay in Noss Mayo one to remember and we will be back.
S. D.
Food was fantastic. Great location with good views. Parking can be a nightmare but we parked further away and walked along the coastal path. Will be going again for lunch!
p. a.
The food was excellent, the beer was good and they allowed my dog in it's a gem of a pub looking out over the harbour , very clean and the staff were friendly and really helpful. Our little party of 4 will be going back tomorrow.
J. B.
Food was perfect, lovely sea bass and fantastic chips. Warm and friendly with excellent service. Beautiful setting, a definite return to place.
F. T.
A lovely place for food and a chilled atmosphere. Yummy food, friendly relaxed service. Doggy friendly too 😀
P. C.
Ate here twice over the course of a long weekend. The food was very tasty and good sized portions. Staff were polite and friendly. The pub itself is very pretty and in an amazing location.
L. D. B.
I went to The Ship Inn for a meal and birthday dinner on Saturday evening, and I must say the food was absolutely delicious. The best Bream I have ever tasted. The staff were so helpful and let me make amendments to my meal at no extra cost. They were so polite and even assisted in helping with photos outside as well. I would highly recommend this resturant and definately return. Thank you. L
R. M.
We had our first meal out here when the pubs reopened after the lockdown, and it did not disappoint. Fabulous food, great service in a friendly atmosphere.
s. b.
Lovely stop off for ladies who do lunch 🍺🍟🍲🛶
G. B.
Was very busy after a 3 hour coastal walk. It was a Saturday afternoon in October. But got a bench outside. Visited again mid week and plenty of space. A great pub with a brilliant position.
L. B.
Only had a late morning coffee but the food smelt and looked lovely. A good place to relax after a morning shopping.
S. C.
What a place. The location is superb . The venue is kept to perfection. The service was superb as was the food
K. W.
Excellent food and very polite staff
P. L.
My daughter and I loved our dinner here so much we returned the next day for lunch. Food and drink, the atmosphere and the view out our window everything just right. In no small part due to the owner Lisa's attention to detail. (And thanks to Dan and Charlie for giving us this tip during our stay at Dovecote House.)
C. B.
Idyllic location with super waterside views of the creek. Unique carpark because its only accessible at low tide. The service and quality of food is always excellent. I've never had a bad meal here. A good number of the customers come here to walk around the headland at Warren point which has glorious views looking west to Plymouth sound and Rame head and beyond. And it's a circular walk. Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo are quintessential villages perfectly located either side the River Yealm and creek. As you can imagine the great and the good live here. Beautiful houses....rich place. Consequently the pub gives off an aura of poshness. But it all adds to the calm aura of the place. Parking isn't easy....and watch that rising tide.....otherwise you may see your car floating by whilst eating your lunch!!
M. C.
Fabulous food and great staff, best meal we have had in a long time.
T. B.
This is a quaint little pub alongside the harbour. Lots of locals eat here (which is always a good sign). I did feel that the food wasn't as good as I'd expected, especially given the high price. But the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is cosy.
P. T.
Lovely pub with very helpful staff. Great place to eat.
M. a. J. B.
Quality pub full of character in a delightful setting overlooking Noss Creek. Excellent food and drinks, great service from friendly staff, lovely seatjng areas both inside and ohtdoors. Recommended !
P. L.
Excellent pub - they laid us a table for 11 in the library. Food very tasty - delicious scampi. Big kids portions too. Definitely be back.
R. M.
Stayed in the village earlier this year and visited the Ship on more than one occasion and found the food and beer excellent. Yes not cheap, but we never left feeling under fed. The only disappointment was having to listen to a couple whinge about their food to one another for most of the night. Not a word to the staff as they went. They ate the lot and then complained, with the Ship cancelling their bill. Really felt for the Staff. If something's not right then give the establishment the chance to but it right at the time.
A. W.
Lovely atmosphere and pleasant staff, very nice food.
B. E.
Food was tasty and well served, staff were friendly, helpful, and prompt. The Ship is a comfortable creek side restaurant/pub, and is easy to recommend. Third visit, and not disappointed
S. H.
After a fantastic walk around the coast and estuary at Noss Mayo, really looked forward to a light and tasty meal. The Ship fully delivered with their duck confit, washed down with a great pint of Church Ledge.
M. N.
Good food, good service and a good range of drinks all at reasonable prices. Beautiful setting - excellent pub. Well worth a visit. Nice decour inside and plenty of outdoor seating with excellent views of the Noss Mayo and the creek.
D. O.
Excellent waterside pub if a bit pricey. Noss Mayo and its twin across the creek, Newton Ferrers are mostly unknown to the tourists, so not too overcrowded. Also try The Swan and The Dolphin.
P. E.
Great food and great service. Little bit cold in the bit where we are, but it was to be expected and didnt stop us from eating and there are plenty of other places to sit near a fire. I bet its a good view in the summer!
S. R.
Wow what a meal our family had, great service and food amazing loved it.
j. d.

Terrific lunch in the Garden Room with family and friends, superb food and service in a wonderful location
B. P.
Delightful pub with spectacular views over the Estuary. Constantly great food and service. Great circular walk with the added bonus of the Ship Inn at the end.
A. D.
Great food and service. Try and get a table at the front of the restaurant on the first floor as the sun sets. Don't park below the high tide mark. Alternatively watch smugly as you see the tide come in to flood someones car who didn't read the signs
M. E.
Just great food with good service welcoming and helpful, a delightful setting.
After a very pleasant stroll along the Coastal path decided to head here for lunch, very pleased I did, thanks
J. M.

G. L.
Went 7 years ago whilst i was at uni. Apart from the scary drive from plymouth its an amazing place to go. Food is just as good as i remember
D. L.
Perfect location, lovely setting and good food. Only downsides are the food is expensive and almost no one has the faintest interest in following the social distancing measures in place.
P. B.
Great place for a leisurely lunch. Very friendly and helpful staff and great food!
S. G.
Excellent service and food. Thank you.
J. L.

G. B.
Excellent food and local beers at the ship, if it's nice weather it's a perfect setting for dining outside. We stayed across at Newton Ferrers for a week and visited the ship regularly, never disappointed.
K. Q.
Very friendly staff couldn't do more to help. Food was excellent prices about what you would expect in a tourist place. Views on to the estuary with outside seating. Dogs are very welcome.
j. h.
Beautiful location, popular restaurant that seemed busy but we didn't have time to visit on the day. Nose Mayo seems like an idyllic place to live untouched by modern shops etc.
T. J.
In the beautiful, picturesque fishing hamlet of Noss Mayo, marvellous pub serving good food and drinks
i. h.
Rather posh
Sunday lunch was first rate
Other than that rather underwhelming and soulless
L. N.
Fabulous food, friendly and efficient staff, would highly recommend
D. H.
Stunning place with great food and great service....just the place after the coastal walk
P. M.
True British Pub - food was excellent, location is fantastic - it’s on the end of a hike walk so why not work for your lunch and sit back and relax in the ship when done

C. S.
Very good food, lovely surroundings and attentive service.
P. M.
Great atmosphere and location by the water.Service between courses somewhat slow but staff very pleasant and food was good and hot at a reasonable price.Be warned parking is at a premium and getting there is down a very windy and narrow road. What ever you do when parking Don't park in the tidal area when the tide is out, when we visited someone forgot to move their car before the tide started coming in and it was getting close to above their car cills. We were lucky enough that one of the residents in the village close to the Pub showed us where we could park, she was very pleasant even showed us her lovely garden.
M. P.
