Reviews of The Union Rooms
D. P.
The Union Rooms is clearly a flagship Pub in the Weatherspoon chain. It’s an excellent venue with ample space inside on 3 levels overlooking the City Centre plus a great outdoor space. The staff were all very helpful and efficient, even when stressed by the high numbers to be served! Food as always was good, but it is the food that held back the 5th Star. It’s most times, cooked to perfection, but as at ALL Weatherspoons, only “just hot enough”. There must be a common problem
here. How can you cook perfect poached eggs like this and they arrive “warm”. I don’t get it. Come on Tim, sort it out and then it’ll be 5*
V. L.
Lovely food, good service. Pub and toilets very clean. Nice relaxing environment! Definitely will visit again! I had the chicken tikka with garlic bread
D. W.
Cheap Drinks & Good Atmosphere Only Issue For Us Was When We Arrived There Wasn't Many Empty Tables & We Asked For The Table We Found To Sit At To Be Cleaned And The Women Told Us To Ask Another Member Of Staff As She Was Too Busy But Apart From That It Was Nice
T. T.
We ate here twice.
Firstly for dinner.
The food was lovely and as a spoons, it was cheap.
The staff were so lovely no faults.
The second time we ate breakfast, and again the staff was lovely, kind.
Food was good and cheap.
Place was so clean even the toilets, which in spoons are usually not.
N. B.
Always love a good Wetherspoons, great for cheeky drinks with friends and always a lovely atmosphere. Foods pretty good too! the staff are so kind. Massive venue as well, a little section turns into a little dance floor around 8/9pm best of both worlds!
D. M. C. B.
Price was fair for the food which arrived quite quickly after ordering, unfortunately the drinks didn't. I enjoy a drink with my food and after eating half my dinner before it went cold and asking 2 separate members of staff the drinks finally arrived nearly 15 min after the food. Other wise would have been 4 stars

Makes a refreshing change to Walk into a Spoons and not find empty plates on every other table. (My local one doesn’t know how to clear tables) Union Rooms however, seem to have the right manager running the joint. Greeted at the bar by a happy face, clean, neat and tidy bar, had a steak and it was spot on. Work away a lot and tend to go for a steak in Beefeaters and the like and I gotta say it, spoons to a brilliant steak for the money. Came out hot and was cooked the way I like it.
Steak, peas, chips and mushroom along with a pint of Guinness for £11. Can’t knock that and can’t knock the venue. Was a Tuesday afternoon around 5:30pm and just starting to Buble with people coming out of work. Nice bit of background music. Really can’t fault the place with the price you pay.
R. H.
Door staff are really nice. Brilliant on a saturday night as it’s very crowded and you’ll see lots of people dancing. Drinks can get slow so better to go to the bar when it’s busy. Atmosphere is pretty great but I prefer smaller pubs
D.
First Time for me Visiting the Union Rooms for an After Work Catch up , Very Atmospheric 🥰 .
Very Spacious With a Great Outside Seating Area , Fabulous when Sunny .
Ordering on the App quite a Drama and a bit fustrating....🙄 ...Finally deciding it was Easier to go to the Bar...Really Happy with Our Choice...A Bottle of Shiraz 🍷🍷🍷🍷At a Very Good Price £8.00 😍 . A Great Couple of Hours Well Worth popping In .❤
P. L.
Although there was a lot of queueing to get served and people were polite and not pushing in it didn't spoil the afternoon which was a Shipwrights reunion. Great venue and good company. Looking forward to the next one
K. L.
For Weatherspoons, not bad. Went on a Saturday at 5pm and there were tables available. It got busier into the evening but it wasn't wild. Bouncers were on the door which is fair enough for a Saturday night.
Not a 5 star, because the business has to go above and beyond to get the extra star
c. E.
Orded on line the Drinks 20 mins after food came out, the food was dry steak fatty my husband found a long hair on his plate. Bits missing off the steak. On the up side they did refu d us 2 meals
A. n.
I went with my partner
I ordered the veggie burger, it was ok
He loved the pizza
The best part are the price, Friendly staff and good service overall.
N. M.
I was there this afternoon in the beer garden. When I got home I realised one of my Apple AirPods was missing which I had been using when i was there. I phoned the Union Rooms and spoke to Anna and explained the situation, within a minute she had located the Airpod where I had been sitting and stated I could collect it at my convenience. Fantastic customer service from Anna. I am a regular at this venue and it certainly ticks all the boxes. A big thank you to all the staff 😎
L. K.
Cheap drinks and food, will come again
Takes a long time to get a drink when it's busy but staff is doing their best 🍻
s. i.
Nice and busy place had to sit out side as it was warm .staff were great and delivered drinks to table in a reasonable time frame .
J. N.
Very good and friendly pub,the service was very effiecient too..The day was hot,but seating indoors did not deter people, because it wa airy and comfortable.
R. B.
Lost my wallet. Asked a fella at the bar and by some strange luck, he found my wallet. Just want to say thanks, man. I appreciate you
S. L.
Very clean, staff are friendly, has a great atmosphere, outside seating and a wide range and choice if different types of drink and food at affordable prices.
T. H.
Usual spoons standard breakfast nothing special but not bad the breakfast muffins are great value
K. H.
Could do with a lift. Carpets looking a bit grubby etc. Tons of dishes piled high next to the coffee machine. In fact, ran out of coffee cups when we ordered. However, the staff are always polite and cheerful and seem on the
go all the time.
A.
Really decent food, drinks are very well priced also; however on a Friday/Saturday night sometimes it can take up to 40 minutes to either have you drinks brought to the table or even in the queue.
There have been times where I've paid for drinks and left as it's taken so long it's over gone other plans. Other than that they're pretty good.
Sometimes the staff look at you like 'not another customer' which is fair enough but poor service
S. F.
Some hate the concept of Wetherspoons, but they do deliver for the customer. If you want top quality food then you need to go to a specialist restaurant. If you want pub grub and a drink at an affordable price, then I will choose Wetherspoons. I particularly like the small plates option, pizza, chicken wings and chicken bites. Would be even better if the prawn option returns
J. J.
Pepsi was a bit flat but apart from that it was pretty good you can get alot of stuff for a relatively small price also the app is pretty good to order of would recommend the 6oz beef burger really nice
Was pretty busy and no one will greet you at the door to help you find a table which is a bit of a challenge
L. C.
Not the best but by far the worst.
Very popular with Students(esp as it got to 9pm) even on a Tues night.
Visited at 8pm with our 13yr old and got told at 8.20 after we had ordered food that under 18s had to leave by 9 and because of this it seemedour food was rushed and not cooked properly.
I ordered Medium cooked steak which arrived rare-med 🤢 and the chips were soggy.
That being said it's Wetherspoons and it's Cheap and Cheerful.
M. R.
Clean and friendly pub/restaurant. Very knowledgeable staff who were welcoming. Food very good and well priced so all may enjoy.
J. B.
Staff are nice however there is no disabled access to toilets from the front door
J. C.
Very tasty breakfast. Its a Wetherspoon. You get what you pay for
L. B.
Good menu , food served really quick even though the place was packed. Unfortunately I had a mixed grill and the lamb was gone off. Staff very apologetic.
A. W.
Been in here a few times for breakfast, service really good and food excellent for the cost, I did go here upon opening so I'm not sure how good the service will be during busy periods but fast, cheap and tasty breakfast.
P. H.
Great breakfast and quick service. Ordering from app at the table is very easy. Well done guys.
A. B. B.
Very delicious food, the onions ring are a must. Unfortunately, we had to wait 1 hour for the drinks because they were busy. We went at 2pm and it didn't seen as busy as after 7pm.
M. J.
Enjoyable night out and cheaply priced drinks not just on regular branded drinks but a wide range of drinks from beer to sprints and cocktails would recommend weatherspoons and the food ots alright as well
B. M.
Had some food and a drink was quick and easy. Food was good and served up hot.
H. L.
Dismal experience over Christmas 2021 in a place that used to be great for pub lunches. The burgers were dry, tasteless and lacked garnish and sauces, my chicken order came without the sauce, and the service was lacklustre. Come on guys, up your game!
G. C.
Great beer and service, and a really nice outside garden area.
K. O.
Was quite disappointed. We orderd 3 of the same meals two has no salad in the burger. And one had like 5 chips. If we orderd the same we should all get the same
L. M.
Lovely and friendly service and the food is excellent and lots of different beers to try 😀
L. R.
Stopped off on the 5th of May before we went to The Pavilions to see The Drifters, Excellent Service very friendly and helpful and polite staff
e. s.
Staff are lush food is nice great nite out especially on a Tuesday the DJ brings it good great music
P. E.
Nice atmosphere food was good staff very friendly service was great 👍
M. P.
Very busy pub but staff were excellent. Been here before and drank/ate on way to Cornwall. Excellent! Well done everyone.
T. G.
Not impressed. Had to settle for third choice of meals and the steak wasn't great
M. S.
Always a pleasure to grab a 'spoons' breakfast. This particular spoons is always clean, staff always friendly and helpful even at busy times. We found that masks were down to personal preference, hand gel available at various points in the bar. Waitress was helpful and efficient. The food itself was lovely, well presented and tasty.
S. S.
Had a gourmet sirloin steak, asked for very well done, meat was still pink on the inside and chewy. No sauces were available ( they only had vinegar and tartare sauce left and the steak sausces were unavailable also).
S. U.
Very very busy indeed and seems to turn into a night club on Fridays! Very popular !!
C. J.
It was fairly priced food quick service
S.
Another excellent premises. It's worth a visit just to experience the interior. The seating is on 3 floors with lots of booths and plenty of tables. The staff were friendly and welcoming, however, the service was slower than usual and curry was cold but I think this was due to the current pingdemic staffing problems. Good quality food and beers as I would expect from Spoons. Will definitely visit again when in the area.
K. e.
Good atmosphere and lots of people usually. Security at the place is very sensitive. I'm getting kicked out nearly every time I go there. It's my Polish accent I guess.
D. C.
Very polite and helpful staff. Good food, although they had run out of fish at 12.15pm!!
J. B.
Nice place to eat. Please please please stop asking people if everything is ok. Today my food was brought out and another waitress turned round and asked if everything was ok before I'd even started eating, I was still putting pepper on.
L. W.
Haven't yet been to a 'Spoon's' worthy of a bad review and this one follows the trend. Lovely, friendly and helpful bar staff. Huge outside seating area with a lot under cover of a massive umbrella but still plenty of tables in the sunshine. The usual vast selection of lagers and ales, although slightly more than the usual Spoon's.
A. S.
It's a Wetherspoons pub - you're either a fan or not.
Every time I've eaten in there, the food and prices have always been more than reasonable.
In the picture is a rocky road dessert - first time I've tried this particular dessert, hopefully not the last.
P.
Relatively quiet, efficient service. Table cleared promptly, no complaints.
P. S.
Nothing wrong but very busy. Probably the biggest Wetherspoons I've been to. Just can't complain about the prices
R. F.
Great night out, Beer was cheap and good quality, enjoyable Friday night out
P. L.
Called in after a long walk around Plymouth. We decided to sit upstairs as it was a little quieter. We ordered lunch and the food came out quickly and was very tasty, great value for money! Have to mention the sevice too, the one barman that was working upstairs during our visit was so polite and welcoming and handled both the drinks ordering and serving of food to the tables effortlessly which made everything that bit more enjoyable.
J. J.
Arrived, picked a table, scanned the app on the table, ordered the food through it adding our table number. Refillable mugs for coffee arrived, followed shortly after by our food. Asked for water and sauces and they were brought back quickly. Nothing to complain about with the food. Three of us ordered, Scampi, skinny burger and ribs with fries, all arrived at the same time, hot and all were nicely cooked and tasty. Tables were clean and plenty of space in between, staff helpful and friendly.
C. C.
Went here on a Saturday after going Axe Throwing at Timber Vault, it was very packed and we struggled to find a seat originally. We ended up getting a table (for four of us) downstairs in a secluded section. Although it was secluded there was extremely loud music playing on a speaker just above the table and we found it difficult to hear each other. The food came out very quickly, even before drinks, and was really nice.
Tables weren't particular sticky (as expected of some Wetherspoons).
Overall, great for cheap nights out, and pres for nights out, but not so much if you are going for a sit down meal.
M. R. g.
Centrally located, ideal for a quick pint or a meal with friends. No fuss, no great expense. Ideal.
E.
Food was good, steak cooked medium rare as requested, there was a mistake with the dessert order but it was handled quickly! The prices was decent and its overall a nice place to have an evening of fun with friends
N. M.
Good atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, dj is pretty good as well. All in all a good night out
s. f.
Great food friendly staff cheap drinks
C. J. F. H.
Great breakfast, served very quickly in very pleasant surroundings (up the steps towards the back of the Pub, adjacent to the bar). Ordered at the bar and waite staff very attentive. Think one of the best Weatherspoons I have visited. Well done all for a great start to my day.
M. G.
Great atmosphere, always busy, but never enough staff serving! Good range of the standard pub lagers ( Stella, kronenberg, Heineken, carlsberg etc). Good range of affordable pub grub. Very adequate but nothing unique or using local artisan producers)
D. J.
It's a wetherspoons cheap n cheerful, unfortunately like most under staffed but I guess that'll be blamed on Covid..
P. Z.
Ordered food and drinks on the app food came had to ask twice about drinks came 30 mind later said they were busy but staff were messing about very disappointed
J. M.
Staff where pleasant and friendly, nothing was to much ...
Lovely place to have a drink with friends...
A. M.
Cheap, tasty food definitely worth a visit.
P. A.
Visited on a Saturday evening and this large 2 floored modern building. Food very good value. Beer and spirits served in plastic not good sign (apparently after 7pm every night). Another bad sign is 4 bouncers on door photo ID checking everyone after 7ish.
Would only return before 7pm in future as drinking out of dirty plastic tumblers is not my cup of tea or Guinness.
P. W.
Unfortunately had to pay £3 entry, and had to wait over an hour and 20 mins for our drinks.
J. L.
Not disappointing, great prices good food nice atmosphere
S. R.
Not horrific, but cheap and cheerful. the food is not bad, but blatantly oven heated food rather than cooked. Service is reasonable. Prices very good
L. T.
Good value for money, usual menu ,friendly staff ,
S. C.
Great night out, got well drunk, good friendly people. Good staff, good prices.
A.
Delicious food, 5 stars
D. M.
One of the best I have visited light and airy big outside area very good service.
J. C.
Gets very busy, go to the bar to order your drinks. Takes ages using the app.
B. J.
Ordered drinks on the app, took over 20 minutes. Then had to collect our selves.
S. J. C.
Great garden area with plenty of seating.
T. A.
Love it, if you look there is always a space for two, compared to other wetherspoons the drinks are a bit slow but it is busy so it is to be expected. On the whole it is very good
N. H.
It's a Wetherspoons so you know what to expect. Cheap food, cheap drink, and a quiet place to chill for breakfast on this occasion. Service a bit slow but I think that's common with staff shortages at the moment. Their new breakfast muffins made it an easy choice as we didn't want anything too heavy.
c. d.
I actually had a lovely super salad, I could tell it had been prept earlier but on the plus side it had more than just salad leaves! Plus a good cheap pint.
J. M. D.
5 stars!
I'll always keep coming back for your legendary steak and the infamous blue lagoon!!! 😁😁😁
L. B.
Had better food it's ok for breakfast
D. J.
The staff are friendly an seem to work so hard. However they seem unable to take orders from people who don't have the app. During a 30min wait for someone to take my order, I had asked staff on 3 occasions I wanted to order before someone finally arrived. They do not have the cards that other weatherspoons have to alert staff a person is waiting to order. I suggest they get these in operation pretty quickly as without them it doesn't help their staff an is certainly detrimental to the customers.
A. H.
As expected. Food was good. Did not have to wait too long even though it was busy. Tables clean and tidy. ( Toikets were also clean)
M. C.
Nice place and atmosphere but drinks can sometimes take a very long time, when I went with friends we waited over an hour for pitchers however they were short staffed on a busy night so don't blame the staff entirely.
B. B.
If you've been to any spoons you already know the food and the price 🤤. This one is nice and open, good service most of the time apart from Saturday, Friday nights where it can get busier. Though unlike a lot of other spoons there is a dance floor where music plays during certain times. Also if the weather is nice the garden is a great place to have a few pints in.
M.
We love a Wetherspoons! I know many people wouldn’t consider them but what they offer is far better than other fast food chains! You can have a full cooked breakfast with a drink for the price of a big Mac meal! We visited here on our stay in Plymouth and enjoyed pizza Saturday with a couple of gins from the gin club, service was great and you can order on the app.
G. T.
Good pub needs to look after its real ales better
T. K.
Another great wetherspoons! Always busy but staff friendly and welcoming. The food were ordered came quickly and was hot and delicious 😋
B. S.
Nice and welcoming. Lovely food Relaxed in the sun.
D. R.
Huge, and very clean too. A superb spoons!
S. W.
It's a large wetherspoons which is built on multiple floors for seating, has 2 large bars, toilets on both floors, all the usual menu and drinks like any other spoons. I would say this one is a more modern spoons than their traditional pubs that are typically buildings with history converted into a pub, so there's no story to tell in here such as pictures and notes of what the building used to be etc.
It has a large beer garden that almost has a tropical theme to it, as though it has the vibe of being sat somewhere abroad in the sun (can't quite put my finger on what I'm trying to say here so pop out there to see what I mean).
It's a great place to go any time of the day up until the night. From what I've seen the nighttime usually draws in the nightclubbers and party people as there's a dance floor and dj booth.
Anyway loads of seating, loads of room and space in there, and isn't too far from the city centre, so worth a visit.
S. p.
Very good Restaurant. The Burgers and the Steaks are very delicious and the nachos tastes very good. You should taste the Pitchers.
S. S.
What can I say, it's Wetherspoons! Cheap and cheerful and you get what you pay for, which in this case is average food of just about average quality. The staff are friendly enough and the place was clean enough on first look. My only 2 gripes, the beans had been microwaved (presumably) so much they'd gone white and dry and the bacon had a charred, sooty taste, and was also black as though it was cooked on a dirty griddle hot plate. I come here alot and I'm not expecting top quality grub but it has gone down hill a little recently, even for Wetherspoons.
T. P.
Not bad prices for food and drink, staff friendly
S. P.
This Wetherspoons has the best staff of any Wetherspoons I've been to. They were very kind and asked us a few times if our food was ok. And they genuinely seemed to care :-) The pub was also clean and tidy.
Wetherspoons is not Michelin rated, nor do they try to be. 2 adults can eat for under £15 and they have the cheapest beers in town. I'm not sure how people can give the food bad reviews.
T. W.
Good food, reasonably priced, hit and tasty, recommend a visit.
P. M.
Average food... when I got it! It was a Thursday lunchtime and clearly they were not very busy and yet it took 25 mins for us to get a drink! The food came shortly afterwards. I know that service will be slower than normal because of covid restrictions but I felt that was way too long before we even got our drinks. Mind you, it is cheap so perhaps I am expecting too much!!! Beer was good :)
A. P.
cheap beer cheap food friendly staff what more can we say
A. G.
Sticky floors and tables were a bit dirty. Cheap enough beer and the door staff were really friendly.
S.
Great prices. Limited menu at the moment. Service usually quick but slow on this visit. The app didn't work this time problem with trying to pay.
M. D.
The table service for drinks is fine but slow when they're busy. I had a fried breakfast and unfortunately it was terrible. Watery bacon and hash browns and mushrooms dripping with oil. Also the mushrooms were possibly the worst I've ever had.
G. H.
It's a Wetherspoon pub and rated accordingly, you know what to expect. So based on that, can't fault the place, good, cheap selection of cask beers and food that does the job at a price you cannot fault. Good, big beer garden
T. P.
Usual good service and lovely drinks
P. G.
Great prices and drinks but please put the Gluten Free signs back on the menu!
S.
i cant comment on others bad experience as i have been 6 times now and i have never had a bad experience here.food has always been nice and tasty.enviroment clean and staff very friendly .prices very good for amount of food you receive.these are pictures of burgers we had last visit.very filling and good quality.recommend a visit and i will go again
N. M.
Since the pubs re opened all the Unions rooms staff have been fantastic.
Prices are still low and the customer service excellent. The beer garden in this weather is Fab. Well done Wetherspoons 😎
T. S.
Was OK other then very slow service but everyone's short staffed lately
G.
great place to go of a lunch time or afternoon for quieter experience. The food was much improved from the last time i went and the amount of choice is great , something for everyone and there are also always new drinks to try. The staff did a great job even with all the restrictions & ordering from the app was super easy , dont think ill want to go back to waiting at the bar haah
K. D.
Good clean tidy amazing staff went in for a breakfast and latte food was excellent no greasy plate when finished.
S. M. (.
Super fast service via the app. Drink arrived within about 30 second and food within 5 minutes, and it was fairly busy
H. S.
We couldn't believe how cheap the drinks were. First time visiting a Westherspoons.
J. M.
Good food DJ at night is absolute garbage
h. c.
Quite a good place actually. They are very good with adhering to social distancing. Staff were very busy but attentive and happy to help.
We had some food. 2 burgers with drinks. Prices included the drink for £7.55 ish. ( Or near, cant quite remember) it was good. Tasted lovely. Didn't take long either. As the drinks turned up, so did the food.
Cheap drinks too as we stayed a while.
Oh! Side note, we were there around 7.15pm and it was getting busy then. By 9pm there was a queue to get in.
Atmosphere was good. No problems. They checked ID at 9pm as well as over 18 only from then on.
Will be going back. Didn't realise they have a massive seating area outside to the rear. Nicely lit but didn't go in that area.
It's generally service via their app but you can order from the bar upstairs though you will probably have to queue.
Mixture of age ranges there.
G. M.
Love this place great entertainment and reasonable prices
c. s.
Great place to meet up with your friends and chill out.
M. W.
Long que at the bar !! Very busy place
C. H.
It's ok. It's a spoons. Gets lots of football fans in, both home and away, so sometimes gets fiesty. Check if the local team are home or away before you go for a family breakfast. Deco wise it's looking a bit tired too but all in all you know what you're getting.
r. H.
Great place for those in a budget, but does get very busy at night.
J. W.
Great bar good staff especially the doorman
K. H.
Cheep and cheerful. Food good value for money.staff friendly. Table service available.
C. S.
Dropped into this pub when my ship came to port here, looking to get some local flavor. Excellent beer selection, however the chicken sandwich I had was tough and lacked much flavor. Trying them again for breakfast, however. Interesting concept with all food and drink ordering done through their app, made for a quick and easy experience. Staff was friendly and very efficient!
J. R.
Never had a bad experience here, been countless times. The staff are great, food is good... what else would you want.
B. T.
If you want cheap drinks, this is the place. Bathrooms relatively clean too.
T. P.
Very impressed with the service I received,: the staff were smiley and friendly. I used the App to order food and drinks and would never go back to ordering at the bar. The app is really good and easy to use.
M. G.
Had breakfast and a coffee and it was pleasant.
w. l.
I had a great time at The Union Rooms . I ordered a mix grill and the food was lush. They have a great variety of drinks. All staffs were very friendly and welcoming. Overall I had a very good time over there. 5 stars
Thank you. 😍
D. L.
Good beer, pizza overcooked, rubbery, staff Good
P. R.
Food was great and the staff were friendly.
D. C.
Good service affordable eating out great food
L. D.
Pretty much standard weatherspoons cheap and cheerful the staff can be a bit ignorant at times
K. P.
Lovely venue, plenty of space and seats. Only downside is food took a very long time to arrive
C. S.
Staff, delightful, food and beer very good value. Would have been 5 stars if the online ordering app worked!
R. W.
Always great value, good selection of good and drink. Helps if you download and get used to their app then you can order directly from the app. There is table service too.
J. M.
Popped into the union rooms after the british fireworks championships as everyone was trying to get home so thought id wait go for a coffee let the busy traffic calm down
Union rooms is one of the bigger wetherspoons pubs in the chain but still an impressive spoons service was great atmosphere was good and coffee refill for 99p hits the spot u really cant beat there coffee great taste at very reasonable price
The doorstaff and bar staff were friendly and engaging and made u feel safe late at night
Definitely a wetherspoons to vist on ur travels to plymouth u wont be disappointed
Great night out
J. S.
Food is always good; any issues are rectified by staff, who are very helpful and are usually very nice.
Can be extremely busy at times as it's so popular, but considering the very reasonable price and the pub-like atmosphere it's worth the wait. Tip: If it's very busy, which it often is, don't order your drinks on the app if you're in a rush as they will take a while.
You're better off queuing for 5-10 minutes at the bar instead.
Family friendly, lots of space (about 200 tables across three levels and a garden) plus two bars.
Late evening the place turns into a nightclub of sorts, good variety of music and of course good prices on drinks.
G. V.
Bezt priced beer in a Plymouth pub. Local breweries favoured. A superb watering hole with very well trained staff who are genuinely helpful.
A. W.
Couldn't book in advance, so had to queue outside, although this was only for about 5 minutes at most.
The food was of a mixed quality. The gourmet burger I ordered was good and the chips were nice, but my partner's steak was medium rare and we were meet with resistance when we asked to have it cooked for longer, although this request was eventually accepted. The garlic bread, which was basically a stone baked garlic pizza, was burnt. Desert was tasty though, although allergy information regarding nuts wasn't clear on the app.
The Covid controls were mixed too. The use of clear screens to separate tables was effective without being clostrophobic, but the lady on the door repeatedly came within a meter of our personal space, without any face covering or PPE.
I would eat here again, but would have a better experience if the above were addressed.
J. A.
The Union Rooms were very good today. We were served almost straight away when we arrived at the bar. There were plenty of spare tables. The menu is varied and very good value. We could not look at the wine list as they are waiting for new ones to be printed. We had wine from the pump and it was very drinkable.
S. M.
Ideal meeting place for larger groups. Plenty of room in the bar area.
j. b.
Love the location and the prices but service is currently really slow and the food was minus any trimmings. Steak and chips was basically just steak and chips..no trimmings at all .not even a bit of mustard or mixed salad on the side .shame.
O. C.
Expectations met, a good Spoons with quick app delivery.
J. B.
Good food, great service!
J. J.
Lovely food. Good atmosphere.
f. f.
Beautiful spoons with goldfish in the garden, very understaffed, felt sorry for them. Ordered a large breakfast with 2 sausages, came with 1 and a half, asked where my other half was and got told it was the end of the batch and that's what I get so tough luck!!!!!!! Daughter ordered pizza and dip. Dip came 30 mins after pizza. So service not so good as they just need more staff. Food good worth a visit, just don't order a large brekkie!
M. W.
Lush lots off items not available but food and service was good
b. m.
Amazing service and the food was cooked to perfection
P. H.
Great social place, lovely staff, chips I had were served fast by a lovely lass. All in all great afternoon with good friend. Will be back soon
D. “. D. C.
Best spoons I've been in drinks and food to the table just 30 minutes after seating down and very friendly staff
C. K.
A quick breakfast and hot chocolate to warm up after swimming in Tinside. Food came faster than expected and tasted delicious! Superb service feom Kayleigh and other staff. THANKS
T. D.
Super friendly staff we ordered two of the same thing and they asked if we want a refunded
M. d.
It's nice place it is what it is weather spoon they have nice bear garden good for money only what I would say negative we went there for lunch say about 12 ISH but half of the food menu won't be served bit disappointed but part from that nice place
P. N.
I found the decor & carpets in need of some TLC but the food was good and the staff were delightful! The two young ladies who served me were wonderful. I don't imagine that they earn a great deal but both of them went out of their way to ask if they could do anything else for me. They gave me a very warm welcome on my first night in town!!
T. K.
Used to have a dance floor, but was removed due to covid. The food is price friendly, but once the dance floor is back.... this is the place to go for night life.
F. F.
Great staff, lovely atmosphere and being a weatherspoons cheap beer
S. C.
After visiting this venue twice at the start of the new covid restrictions. I really want to praise the excellent door staff this venue has. Under a lot of pressure as this is a seriously busy venue they were making sure everyone complied with the test and trace procedure, had masks on and directed us to our table. As a middle-aged gentlemen in a venue with a lot of young people I felt safe. Excellent job Wetherspoons.
S. S.
Good service nice beer
p. b.
Good spacious large pub.
Unfortunately kept queuing outside in the cold for almost an hour.
Then inside food came with minimal wait but drinks had a 45minute wait!
So the food came without a drink!
S. G.
Pubs generally nice with nice food. Some thing son the menu don't come as you'd expect.. I.e pimps with no fruit and portions inconsistent in size. But not a bad place to go for a cheap night.
N. g.
Great vibe... Busy and great atmosphere
P. B.
My food and my son's dinner was great but my wife's dinner came out cold, the the young waitress was amazing and got it sorted straight away,
J. R.
Food is good and normally served quickly, the ability to use the app to order is very useful. there is 3 floors of seating so the pub can get very busy at times. if you come during a peak time, or when an event is on, be prepared for up to a 3 hour wait for food if you order anything that isn't off their special menu for that day.
N. M.
Food was cold and drinks came out after the food😔 waiting staff were were polite and the pub was clean. OK for a drink but food is definatly not up to par compared to other wetherspoons!
V. R.
Breakfast served promptly. We were asked three times if everything was okay with our order. Friendly and professional staff
e. d.
Lovely service. Yum food.
J. A. (.
Great place for food and drink. Good for a night out too as they convert the restaurant area into a dance floor. If it's a hot summers day then go here for cocktails out in the sun in their garden area. Would be a higher rating if the customer service was better. I've been here countless of times and it's never been top notch.
v. s. c.
The menu for breakfast is varied. Bottomless hot drinks except for hot chocolate. Food was tasty but other folks sent theirs back. A shame to choose between white or brown bead. As it's not a five star hotel I don't mind. Great views too!
S. D.
Good food and friendly staff
L. C.
For a place that offers good food for the price and cheap booze, you can't fault. Even when it's busy you still get served quickly. I like it. My go to place when I want a half decent meal for me and the kids
A.
Great courteous and helpful staff with good food and ambience and large venue for group meetings, close to all Plymouth town facilities like Plymouth Pavilion
S. S.
The food even came out hot!!
l. S.
Food was okay but the experience was ruined when we had to wear our coats as it was far too cold. Considering it's flu season and the temperatures are dropping you would think Union Rooms would keep their environment warm.
s. t.
Cheap beer tacky environment... Sticky surfaces
H. J. J.
Food was reasonable but we were informed there was an hour backlog of drinks. Do not offer this option when you order food if you cannot meet the requests.
V. H.
Food was lovely, only 20 minute wait after ordering on the app. Downside was the food arrived well before the drinks even though the bar wasn't busy!
C. B.
Very good, reasonable prices, good food and friendly staff.
S. W.
Me and my friend went there for a drink before fully going out and the staff were amazing and really made us feel welcomed. The food there was lovely especially the chips. I would definitely recommend going there again or even recommending it to other people 😃
J. J.
You get what you pay for. A good choice for reasonable food at great prices.
K. P.
Good food little slow in coming out bit otherwise good service.
M. B.
Very busy but it was Saturday friendly staff and standard spoons food. Still recommend the pizza if you havnt tried it yet.
T. F.
Very nice but with all these new restrictions with covid I found it very stupid but the meal was fantastic
S. J.
Visited late in the afternoon and found it to be clean and tidy. It was quite busy it didn't feel crowded as there is plenty of room between tables. It has 3 floors and we chose the top floor on the mezzanine which was quieter and more suitable for dining. We used the Werherspoon app and ordered our food and drinks which all came very quickly. The food was hot and delicious, thoroughly enjoyed! There is a garden but we visited on a cold day so stayed inside. We were very impressed with our first visit and definitely looking forward to our next one! There is a 2 hour car park with pay machines (didn't take cash on the day we visited, but can use credit card) to the rear of the Union Rooms.
B. T.
Great food and friendly staff.. good service
G. B.
Great food and drinks at a reasonable price.
L. L.
Loads of room.
Good beer garden where you can smoke at the back.
Good food.
Good beer.
And better still good prices
S. J.
My sis and I enjoy our sat lunches. Visited sat 22-2-20. We had lovely chicken burger today , our favorite , chips were scrumptious. Staff on that day were lovely, felt sorry for them they had to go downstairs for my san miguel, no pump upstairs , they delivered it with a smile, bless them.
A. D.
Very nice place, reasonable price
a. b.
Beer is cheap and good quality. You can order from your table and even though it was busy the service wasn't too ling
G. G.
I like the new way to order, {I haven't tried it yet..}. I like the economic cost & variation of menu. Plenty of seating area, including outside canopied areas. Meals are generous, staff are polite & efficient. Good place to get a healthy rest.
G. D.
Nice atmosphere, good food, not any parking bit can't be helped, lovely staff and well kept
S. G.
My go to place for meals or a cup of tea. I usually grab a burger myself...drinks are usually included. I believe alcoholic drinks add an extra few quid if included with the meal. Food is always very good quality and drinks are too. Any problems they usually sort it out fast and usually check with you to make sure you're satisfied with your meal. You can also use their online app to order food and drink to your selected table which I have started using. Very helpful if you don't want to wait in long ques at the bar.
w. h.
Awesome place and food.good feel vibe
L. S. A.
Their breakfasts are amazing. Wanting something small try their Breakfast wrap! Also a great little nightclub too, this place is everything you need. One downside is the bacon isn't the best and alot of the time too hard to eat.
D. G.
Very busy but the staff were very busy and cheerful
J. C.
Took ages to get served but due to Eat Out to Help Out breakfast was really cheap, so can't complain too much
m. s.
Watch out for delay on app 45 mins for drinks food arrived in under 10. Otherwise good and fair prices decent quality
P. J.
Good food and really friendly staff.
D. L.
this was my first time in coming here, again I had a very positive experience, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the wetherspoons app proved to be an asset as it was a busy time. another thing I thought was really good was after 6 all your drinks for example if you order the pint comes in a plastic glass again as a safety thing, however I just thought that wetherspoons making sure everybody is safe when they've come to have something to eat and a pint or a night out with friends!.
S. “. S.
Charged my phone for me love it! Hardly any plugs but I got one!
M.
Great prices, great atmosphere, great table service. Overall a great experience. Except for one thing, the food was... not on par with other restaurants in the area, so minus one star for that.
G. S.
Still hit and miss depending what staff are on ,
The more mature staff are usually on the whole the ones who make the place run better
and are more polite and attentive. Some things missing off the menu like a side of hash browns which is a pain as cant stand going to the bar as if its busy its pot luck if your served in order which is also partly due to ignorant customers.
1.
Typical Wetherspoons, went there on a Saturday afternoon therefore packed but managed to find a table without a problem. Ordered via the app and service was speedy and polite. Food was decent and you typically know you'll get consistent quality without any surprises.
J. L.
Cheap booze and good atmosphere
S. M.
Enjoyed the double gins. We had an all day breakfast and scampi, peas and chips. Simple meals and well cooked.
Busy pub, great atmosphere with lots of young people there.
C. S.
Great tasting food and a good atmosphere considering the country is dealing with covid-19 still. The only thing i would say that could change at this present time unless they are excempt of course, is that the waiting staff should be wearing some sort of face covering when bringing food out.
K. P.
Had a big family gathering with about 20 of us.. no massive waits at the bar, tables could do with clearing and wiping more often but overall a few enjoyable afternoons spent in there. Food out fairly quickly.
j. m.
Excellent value, great staff ! With a 'Spoons' you know where you are.
Difficult to keep on top of it, but the furnishings are a tad 'tired.'
p. h.
Very nice food and drink. The Staff were very prompt and friendly.
I had a mixed grill with a Scampi combo. It was delicious.
Magners was £1.99 a pint and I had far too many!
C. H.
Nice atmosphere friendly helpful staff good food
K. M.
Good atmosphere. Food great for price. I personally love the order on the app and they bring everything to you!!
J. M.
Great location, and as per usual with Weatherspoons very well priced drinks and food and the quality where it should be! The beer was cold; the food hot and all ordered from the app what more could a customer want?
Plus it's right in the town, so easy parking and easily within walking distance from all the other amenities.
R. G.
"tell others why you liked this place" WELL I HARDLY LIKED IT... LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE. So I thought going for a cheeky spoons would be a good idea for a cheap and cheerful meal. OH HOW I WAS WRONG. (previous experiences have been absolutely fine in spoons but this one has well and truly done it for me.) I ordered a veggie breakfast - the sausage was HARD AS BULLETS, the EGG looked as if it had been frying for 10 years and the beans? Well they'd simply looked as if they had been microwaved 2728292 times to become warm again. So you can go try it out but I definitely don't recommend the veggie breakfast :)
E.
Amazing beer garden and large pub in general but wait time on drinks is too long.
J. B.
Tables cleared very quickly - unlike Newquay Wetherspoons. Good service
R. M.
Nice food. Place good do with a spruce up
P. D.
Large Wetherspoons with a good selection of reasonably priced drinks.
C. T.
Good spoons.
It's two floors and has a lot of room, however it still can be hard to find a table at peak times. The Wetherspoons app makes it easy to order without having to wait for a long time at the queue. The food is good quality and the drinks are great. The prices are amazing, as is normal in a spoons.
However, I have had friends where items in their order was forgotten and the staff behaved quite rudely. This was later corrected but the woman who was rude did not apologise and basically called my friend a liar. As well as this, it becomes a nightclub at night. This means upstairs gets closed and you have to pay entry while still serving food. Because upstairs is shut there isn't anywhere you can go to have a conversation as the music is so loud.
M. H.
Cheap but just read no strongbow or dark fruits strongbow so be a few unhappy customers
M. C.
As always it's a cheap and good place to get food and drink
A. C.
Had a great visit today. The Manager's Special. Cod & Chips, was excellent. Fresh, cooked perfectly and very tasty for an amazing price too. Great, fast and friendly service throughout. Thank you :-)
L. R.
Always pleasant, efficient attentive staff and pretty good food. A good choice of low and no alcohol beers.
h. H.
Staff lovely, sadly smoking area is now very small and out in the open, almost all non smoking tables outside are under cover
T.
Good all round place to go. Friendly staff, decent prices, the food is pretty good and if you fancy showing off your latest but not necessarily awesome dance routine, the dance floor is cool too. Be prepared though to wait for some time to get served on a busy Friday night but that's normal anywhere I guess.
L. S.
I must commend the staff and the management on friendly service and quick turnaround even on a busy fireworks night. We were served within 30 minutes from ordering despite the fact the palce was absolutely packed and the food was delicious!
K. T.
The staff observed social distancing & have track & trace wen you enter the pub. Still has a social atmosphere taking the right precautions expected thanks Todd Martin for keeping a good service running
K. M.
OK breakfast, eggs looked like they'd be dropped kicked.
S. L.
The food was good , but the tables needs more cleaning.
S. J.
I have given them three stars only because they had two of my all-time favourite beers on, Snecklifter and Old Thumper. Without those lifts, it could have been a lot lower. The place suffers more than most from the 'at table app' horror whereby lazy people order their drinks from their seats and have them delivered by people who should be behind the bar serving those who actually want to see and browse what is on offer.
The length of time wasted standing at the bar was almost unbearable. "Almost"? I had ordered a meal, but I only managed to be served with two drinks over the hour and three-quarters I was there, so I left.
The staff were pleasant, and it is not their fault, but actually being at the bar for customers would have been nice.
M. K.
Unfortunately....... This visit was in very heavy rain and a cold night.
So most of us in there were soaking wet and moods were a little damp!
But....... This wetherspoons is one of the best I've been too over the years. Ale selection is always great and a few times in the past, I've timed my visit with ale and cider events.
Summertime really feels great here!
T. K. H.
A Wetherspoons, meant to be quick, cheap and with good toilets. For some reason, out of the three we were, I had really bad luck with my order, and I had to request it after waiting for half an hour.
On the bright side they were very apologetic, and once requesting and querying its location, it only took about 10 minutes to get the meal.
Otherwise the location is good, and the building is huge. There is a lot of space, no doubt.
D. S.
Yes, so tasty and delicious with a cold CIDER.
E. N.
I visit The Union Rooms on a regular basis and expect a standard experience that a Wetherspoons pub provides, I ordered a pizza which was a relatively new addition to the menu and was quite nice. The drinks that I ordered however arrived very late, pretty much as we were half way through our food, we ordered using the app so was unsure if that was the reason it was so late.
G. K.
Nice place food nearly hot so not too bad. Nice pub tho
S. T.
Really good value for both food and drinks. Extensive menu, good selection of drinks. Very good meal deals available. Could just do with a bit more thorough cleaning and quicker table clearing.
S. L.
Decent, can be a long wait for drinks though
b. W.
Cheap and cheerful breakfast it's ok but very busy 👍
A. W.
After a 4 and a half hour journey taking over 8 hours on Saturday we arrived in Plymouth on the hunt for food. Have to say a big thank you to the staff for letting myself and my daughter in just to eat with just a few minutes to go before your kitchen closed. Bar staff very helpful and friendly. Food was fantastic. Weary travellers left happy after our meal. Would definitely visit again, hopefully next time will be dressed up and ready to party x thank you guys x
r. b.
Still the best place to eat with social distancing
C. H.
Amazing food especially the chicken burgers and very quick service and lovely staff 😋 😀
t. w.
Great food, good value for money.
J. S.
Quick seating once I had the nhs Covid19 app. Tasty good value food and drink. Very pleasant staff.
P. W.
It's OK. Only problem is in the evening you are waiting over 20 mins at a time to be served and staff blatantly not bothered.
Food is nice here and cheap all round. The music in the evening is good too. Door staff can seem to be a bit of bully's though
I. A.
Decent size spoons, bouncers like abit of action. 4 of them ganged up on my girlfriend for 'stealing condiments' when we just brought some sauces back to the table. Would be a 4 star but bar staff are also fairly rude
d.
As usual one of the slowest places around to get a drink . Ordered on the App and drinks taking 25 minutes to turn up even though the place was virtually empty . To their credit the bar service did speed up after several people complained. Table service did not.
A. C.
Nice food, waitress was very helpful to disabled wife carrying things.
P. S.
Typical Wetherspoons, cheap and cheerful, toilets stink
L. T.
Good place to go with your mates after a day's work...however, the app really let's this place down...long kitchen times and even drinks can become a long wait. Staff are usually nice as well and there's lots of seating and also a smoking garden.
D. S.
Typical Weatherspoons. Well decorated for Halloween, the staff had made a good effort in their costumes. Food came quickly and was hot. Toilets were huge and spotlessly clean. You didn't have to climb a load of stairs to get to them.
c. p.
There was only one person serving at the bar who was having to rush around off her feet. When there was more staff to swrve i was served but the man assume that i was with the person beside me when she was orderjng her own food. There was also an issue with some parts of the breakfast was cold. I understand this place was busy but more staff would have helped improved this
l. t.
Family gathering after a funeral earlier that day. Cheery atmosphere, good food, lifted our sad mood. All 16 of us had an excellent evening.
J. Y.
Service was quick even though it was a Saturday around 4pm. Ordered ham egg and chips, the eggs were very under cooked and some of the white was a bit runny. All other service was good.
P. F.
Useful. Convenient cheap.
D. D. R.
Great size and atmosphere.
S. G.
Pubs generally nice with nice food. Some thing son the menu don't come as you'd expect.. I.e pimps with no fruit and portions inconsistent in size. But not a bad place to go for a cheap night.
T. G. (.
Great place fast ordering great security lovely staff hot male staff

Cheap but just read no strongbow or dark fruits strongbow so be a few unhappy customers

The security men were so freindly. But it was a shame we could not sit in Doors it was freezing cold
R. P.
Very efficient service for was good
E. T.
Nice cold pint of larger.
r.
Nice food and a great pint reasonably priced
T.
We go here more than anywhere else in Plymouth, the prices are unbeatable and the food is great...so why only 4 stars? They're understaffed! Their poor staff have to run the bar, serve food, clean tables, run up and down stairs, check on diners etc etc etc. It's not fair the way they're treated and it lowers quality control such as having to request cleaner cutlery every now and then.
All this aside, you should definitely come here, cheap tasty food and drinks..what's not to like?
v. s.
Always like this bar. Our favourite meeting place for afternoons and eating lunch. Perfectly situated in central Southsea. Kids meals etc. Service is good. Food good very good prices on drinks and food. Lots of offers to be had.
S. C.
Good food, nice atmosphere cheap beer, worth a visit
p. a.
the beer was nice but it was busy and as usual not enough staff tried the app but took over twenty minuetes to come
S. J. D.
Very good food, good prices, and friendly staff. It is totally wheelchair accessible via the beer garden, but you may not want to use the wheelchair accessible toilet as it can be smelly. I use the toilets at Drake Circus or at the Indoor Market. A RADAR key is required, although the market cleaning staff do have one and are very helpful.
E. R.
Top notch food is served at this place. Is better than the average wetherspoons pub and from my brief visit here I noticed that they seem to always have deals on. They also started introducing Pizza to wetherspoons which I haven't seen in other versions before and I have to say I love it! Cheap prices and I recommend for all the family.
B. G.
Went out for a family meal as we have never been here before. Great choice of food and good value for money. I went for the pulled beef burger and blue cheese sauce and all of it was next to the burger not in it. I was very disappointed to realise that it was from a bottle. And it wasn't a sauce it was a dressing. Then we ordered dessert my other half went for the chocolate fudge cake with ice-cream only to have to have it come rock solid as it was microwaved to long. Don't get me wrong we knew it was all pre prepped and microwave stuff. But I'm very disappointed at how badly they managed to do that.
Y. G.
Slow service. Not enough bar staff. But once food ordered arrived really fast. Steak cooked perfectly. Whole meal tasty.
A. W.
Good atmosphere for hanging out with mates, cheap drinks and all round good place. At night, fun to socialise but the dance floor can be kinda boring with people just standing around. Can sometimes smell the day after a big night also
B. T. E. (.
Nice bar with cheap, bur tasty meals, at bargain prices.
S.
Not bad during the day time when you can enjoy a cheap pint and sit upstairs in a window seat watching busy Plymouth pass by.
Food is reasonable and there is a large beer garden at the back.
At night, the pub almost turns into a nightclub. It's busy with doormen on duty.
Music is loud.
J. C.
Great atmosphere; nice and bright; quick service; great food and an overall great experience. A beautiful outdoor seating area and unique design of the floor layout/interior makes it a nice place for lunch/a couple of drinks.
D. H.
Cheap and cheerful. Never has a hostile crowd or vibe. Always have a good time here. Great venue.
L. W.
Amazing staff handling awful customers in a pandemic. Cheerful, friendly and attentive, all of them deserve a payrise!
P. H. P.
A typical Wetherspoons pub with the usual menu - quite varied but not extraordinary!
There seemed to be quite a lot of tables that hadn't been cleared, probably due to the minimal staff on duty. Several pay and display car parks near this popular city centre watering hole.
M. 7.
We went in after a jimmy carr show and there was nothing to fault to be fair.good service, clean and tidy.good stuff.
L. E.
Was ok. Had a meal here and chips was just warm. Didn't say anything because i was hungry

Enjoyable evening following a day of exploring and Gin tours!
The wetherspoons app makes it so easy to order.
