Reviews of The White Hart Inn
M. C.
A really nice and proper country pub set in a beautiful area in the south west. Stunning views from the balcony across the Tamar Valley with Dartmoor in the distance, I could even see Brentor church.
As for the beer and food, there were 3 ales available of which I tried 2 and they were great. We both had fish pie which was reasonably priced. I have to say that it was probably the nicest fish pie I'd ever eaten in a pub or restaurant, well recommended!

Where do we begin with our praise for what Ian, Katy & their staff are doing with this beautiful, rural pub. Having found ourselves staying in Chilsworthy by accident it ended up being the best thing that had happened. Situated in the heart of the village, what these fantastic people are doing for their community deserves more acclaim than I can write here.
We turned up with our son, Josh... his girlfriend Ella... our two dogs, and didn't know a soul. We were welcomed with open arms and chatted to as if we'd been locals for years. Ian & Katy are your perfect hosts, and despite being hit with every hurdle possible during the last few years, have 100% put their lives up for their village.
The pub is beautiful, the views stunning, atmosphere incredible.... and after one week we leave with the hosts now friends.
A must visit to anyone coming down this way. You will not be disappointed.

Well !!! what can we say … what a lovely hidden gem .. owners very friendly.. daughter and boyfriend had a fabulous Sunday roast ( kind of the pub to allow them to eat as it was after the pub’s lunch finish time slot, looked fantastic)😄I had the mini trio desserts with espresso.. ( compliments to the chef) it is one of the most lovely puddings I’ve ever had in my life ( and I’m an old gal !! 😂😂😂) , person that served us was so friendly which added to the experience , very dog friendly pub too.. locals very chatty and friendly …definitely recommend this establishment.. give it a try .. we’ll be back … PS Thank you from our dog for her treats 😄 shame we don’t live more close.. would be a regular visitor 😃… with many thanks and much appreciation. 😃

Went for anniversary celebration eat out in, early evening on a weekday so not too busy. The pub is a lovely old building, atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The veranda is showing signs of needing replacement, but has lovely views. Food service was fast and friendly. The main point though is how amazing the food was. Delicious! Great portion sizes, great value. Nicely kept beer! Had a pleasant evening.

We saw the tv programme with Tom Kerridge about this pub and promised ourselves we’d go there. Well today was the day, what can I say other than it was a charming traditional pub with amazing views. Very friendly pub, absolutely the best pub food we had all ever had. Mum and I had a wonderful plaice dish which would rival a top end restaurant. Extremely good value for money. Love it. Worth our 200 mile round trip from Cornwall, we’ll be back! Oh, not forgetting the entertainment, Harry the dog! Thanks.
S. P.
Friendly atmosphere. Stunning views. My new local (when I have time to get down there!!)
M. M.
Great food and a great family friendly atmosphere, with an amazing view whilst you eat.
Visited with my family including children and the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The Food was really yummy, home cooked food, and the selection was just right offering something for everyone. The portions were generous and the quality shone through every bite, with this in mind the value for money was outstanding. Would recommend this place for anyone in the area as it really is something special. I had the venison chilli and it was amazing!
P. S.
I didnt eat nor drink as its closed, however, back in the car after getting a piece of Gala pie out of the honesty shop, (and ginger cake, yet to be sampled) pie lovely, views fantastic, I'm sure the food and drink is as amazing as its situation/ views....well worth going I'd say, even for a bit of pie and the view!
A. H.
Absolutely incredible. Went for the Roast Pork and was easily the best ‘Pub Lunch’ we’ve ever had. Far above and beyond any other pub. Everything was cooked to *PERFECTION*. A MUST visit. Incredible. All the other pubs near by were fully booked and thank god they were. Staff were incredible, food was delightful. 100/100 ⭐️
A. H.
Only a quick Half (yeah I know).
From my pit stop, staff seemed motivated to help/work rather than the I'm tired I wanna go home look.
Will visit again to give it a good once over.

Whilst holidaying in Cornwall we had the good fortune to go to the white hart pub.
Wednesday 28th September.
Didnt book, just walked in on the off chance.
We couldn't believe how busy it was for a mid week.
I asked the waitress if they where doing food? She told me that the chef had called in sick and she would ask the landlady who was cooking if she could.
Luckily she came back and said yes."Its going to be a bit of a wait but yes."
I come from a little village in East Sussex called Rotherfield, when i was young the local pub, The George was the focal point of the village.
Im not kidding, it was like being back there in The White Hart.
The landlord Ian was so friendly, we where chatting with the locals like we where one of them.
The food was delicious, a log fire blasting.
All I can say is I wish I lived there!!
It's like stepping back in time where people go out and socialise.
Well done Ian and Katy you've cracked it.
All the best Dave the plasterer.
D. B.
Great pub lovely beer and atmosphere and a warm welcome received ! Sets the standard and wish all pubs were like this
I. T.
Absolutely fantastic food. Even on the restricted menu because the chef was on his own - you can tell the quality of the food really matters. In the top 3 best pubsI have been to, easily.
M. D.
Great pub, and a view that will blow you away .......a little gem .
J. E.
Great country pub where we sampled the Sunday Carvery which was first class. Ambience was exemplary and the welcome we received was very friendly. It was quite busy and even though we hadn’t booked, the staff made every effort to accommodate us. Highly recommend.
D. S.
Lovely pub, great pint, beautiful views and they had Adam's Open Mic, so enjoyed the music too. What more could you want!
H. G.
Very friendly staff and owners, great food, very dog friendly, and great views even with the fog!
Tight and steep car park but that's the only very minor negative. That of course can't be helped, but definitely worth the visit!
A. D.
Lovely old pub with great food, great staff, great views and a great dog! Will be visiting again soon
B.
Stopped here for a pint and something to eat, food very good, great veiws of the country side
S. W.
Wow. A wonderful pub with friendly staff, relaxed feel and a delicious menu. We enjoyed a fully vegan roast dinner. Haggis pie, yummy.
We will definitely return if we are passing.
J. S.
A fabulously friendly, local community pub
L. G.
Great meal good value and lovely staff. Will go back very soon.
T. B.
Monthly open mic sessions in a friendly pub with an impressive selection of less ubiquitous ales.
T. B.
We went last night. Starters of devilled kidneys (incredible) and scallops Thermidor (too cheesy for the delicate scallops). Then pork steaks (lovely sauce but dry and with very ordinary bland potatoes), and liver and bacon with delicious gravy. The service was great, every attentive and friendly. We’d go back xx
p. g.
Great beer, dog friendly, lovely location, locals and owners very nice
g. t.
Nice old pub, very good food and very friendly helpful staff. Went twice, so didn’t starter second time as main meal filled us. Limited menu but what is on the menu was very nice. Kids meals were great and large so the girls didn’t get through all of theirs. Great view of valley, so rear outside balcony recommended.
L. B.
Absolutely gorgeous food. I ordered the Chef’s Lunch with liver, bacon and mashed potato. My partner had the steak and stilton pie. The portions were pretty big so we ended up very satisfied. The pub itself is lovely inside and has great views. Thank you so much!
J. S.
We can't thank The White Hart Inn enough for giving us a wonderful experience yesterday. We were a party of 6 adults and 4 very young children and chose The White Hart to celebrate my 60th birthday. We had a large table in an upstairs room where there was plenty of room for us all. The food and service were first class. Even my son who is an excellent chef himself was very impressed. Thank you again!!!
L. P.
Real Country pub. Lovely food and views are amazing! Also ra really friendly welcoming pub
G. P.
What a find. Lovely pub with gorgeous views. Cracking menu. Fish pie was excellent. Homemade chicken nuggets for my son went down a treat! Lovely friendly staff and patrons. Would highly recommend.
A. T.
Excellent pub, friendly staff, good selection of ales. Loved it.
M. J.
Thank you so much for our lovely evening at the white hart , the food was fantastic and great value for money. The young lady that looked after us was first class and seemed to manger very well with my sense of humour. If you have not visited the White Hart I would strongly recommend the menu and the ambience.
Congratulations to Amy and the Team.
s. p.
We are regulars in the bar, this is the first time we have eaten here, all I can say is amazing. Its rare to actually feel full up after a meal out, we couldn't manage dessert. The mussels for stater were lovely, I had the hake for main, the wife had duck. Both were very well cooked ans very hot. Pity we couldn't fit in dessert!!
M.
Visited with a very dear friend for lunch.
Food was delicious, hot and very good portions. Freshly cooked, with lovely ingredients.
Ami, the owner and Adrian the chef, were very good hosts and worked really hard to ensure good service.
Would highly recommend and will visit again when in the area, thank you.
D. P.
A warm and friendly pub, great atmosphere. Good variety on the menu including decent veggie choices. We had three different main courses between us and they were all excellent. Friendly helpful service. Very reasonable prices. All in all highly recommended. My only caveat for non locals is make sure you know where you are going!
N. W.
Great pub good food good beer good staff and people will go again when we come back .
g. h.
Awesome pub, amazing pastys and the staff are lovely. Incredible scenery and great views a true little gem 💎
v. r.
We had such a lovely meal at the White Hart Inn. The food was hearty and home made, was shocked to see some 'proper' chips. Love places like this.
Amy was great, she stoked up the fire for us and the service was great. We had the pleasure of meeting their dog Harry who was a delight 😍.
Definitely will be back when we visit again.
A. B.
Lovely pub with spectacular views, good beer, great food and very friendly staff. Special mention for Amy who made us feel really welcome. Will be back soon.
f. b.
I saw this pub on The Tom Kerridge programme and thought that they put masses of effort into making it work. Took our caravan fairly near and decided to visit. So glad we did, excellent food, tasty beer and great views from the balcony. Just wished we lived closer.
M.
My family and I have gone to this pub and we really enjoyed it. The food was delicious and dessert was amazing. The people who own and cater it are amazing, when we went there was only one person cooking and they handled it perfectly and all of the food was out on time. Overall, a really good place to go and have lunch or dinner and very family friendly. Loved it.
From a visitor.

First visit since the change of ownership. The pub was busy, with lots of familiar faces who now say this is their local. The management was extremely welcoming and open to suggestions. The beer and wine was excellent and the food surpassed expectations. There has been a huge atmospheric makeover, with fantastic views from the dining room and the outside veranda being well utilised. So in a nutshell, my family and I have joined the list of local people who are pleased to adopt this pub as our "new" local!
M. T.
A warm welcome when we arrived was a great start. Shown to the restaurant area with fabulous views. Home cooked food was delicious. Pub dog Harry very welcoming too. Really good selection of local real ales (no Doombar or Tribute here). All finished off with some excellent puddings for us all. Well worth making the effort to find.
M. N.
A lovely local pub I believe this will be an up and coming pub for the locals to enjoy
S.
What a fabulous place! My wife and I had a Sunday Roast Carvery at the White Hart this weekend after buying a ticket for the Gunnislake Village Hall fundraising, and I have to say the whole experience was excellent. Our last visit to this pub was 2 years ago when it was under different ownership, and back then it wasn't a very pleasant place. Now the new owners have been in for a while, it was recommended to us that we revisit the White Hart, and we were not disappointed one bit. It is clear that Ian & Amy have put in a massive amount of work to bring this pub on, and they have done an amazing job of turning this pub around, it is like a totally different place. Service is 1st class, the food is great, the whole place is clean, warm, friendly, welcoming, overall a great atmosphere! This is how all pubs should be, we can't wait to come back!
B. C.
Just had my first visit to this pub. It was quiet when we arrived, probably due to it being a Monday night. The owners couldn't have been more friendly or welcoming which is always a good sign when visiting a place for the first time. There's a good selection of beers and the menu looked inviting with a few dishes that were out of the usual fare you see in pubs. Only a quick visit this time but certainly a pub I'll be visiting again to try the food - if it's as good as the menu hints at then I'll definitely give another star!
H. W.
Delicious food, friendly staff, lovely views, good value for money.
B. M.
Brilliant little pub with a great local atmosphere. They had only just got the kitchen going the day before we were there but the fish and chips were fantastic and the burger was outstanding. Clearly fresh fish and proper chips. We'll be back on Sunday and any time we find ourselves back in the area. Also very dog friendly, the publican was so friendly and went out of her way to give our dog five star service!
K. K.
Very quaint pub, lovely roast, great staff. Live music sometimes
W. M.
Amazing food, besr food ever had in a pub! Fantastic friendly service. Absolutely loveed this place so much. In the middle of nowhere, what a gem! Shame we're not local otherwise we would eat here all the time. Definitely will return if we visit this area again.
N. T.
We were there for the the beer festival. There were 5 Cornish ales on tap to sample, plus other different ones. It was a very hot day which made the pints go down a real treat. We nibbled on Chinese chicken wings and chips as we sat on the balcony and enjoyed the view. It was a wonderfully relaxing and laid back visit.
N. h.
Steak and mena dhu pie was amazing.
My wife had the fish and chips. Big thumbs up 👍
M. J.
Visited three times last week, great food , spoilt for choice on the menu also tried pie and pint on Thurs evening, my wife had chicken and ham and I had steak and kidney both were excellent ! Also Uley Bitter takes some beating. Good atmosphere and great service. Thanks
M. P.
We were a bit stressed due to having flooded our kitchen. We came to the White Hart hoping for dinner as we couldn't cook at home. The proprietors and staff were all very cheerful, friendly and welcoming. Even pub dog Harry came to show us his stick.
I have several dietary restrictions, but this proved no problem to the kitchen and my meal was excellent as was my son's homemade pie and chips.
The pub has been transformed by its new owners. Well done and thank you. We went home much less stressed.
P. D.
A real village pub feel, with real ale, good food and very welcoming hosts. The White Hart is situated on the side of a hill overlooking the valley with far reaching views to enjoy. They are 'dog friendly' and the pub's own dog is 'Harry', there is even a Pub Chicken who wanders around freely. If you are anywhere around the Chilsworthy area, I recommend you visit, you won't be disappointed.
J. O.
Fantastic food, lovely atmosphere
C. R.
Wow wow and wow. Had carvery here today not only are the views amazing so was the food. Friendly staff who greeted us with a warm welcome, great selection of beer to choose from. Would highly recommend this pub to anyone thinking of coming here. We'll Definitely be back for another carvery
A. G.
The White Hart is a real gem of a pub at the heart of the village of Chilsworthy. The building dates from the 1500's and retains much of its original character and charm. We drove up through Gunnislake to get there via a sat nav route that proved to be quite adventurous. Taking the longer route to approah from the west would definitely have been the better option. As holiday visitors we were warmly welcomed on arrival. It was a busy evening but service was efficient. We were quickly seated following a pleasant chat at the bar while our drinks were poured. There is an extensive menu of starters, mains and puddings. All homemade! As well as a specials board. We chose the goulash with herb dumplings and a lamb burger. Both proved delicious. As we paid our bill Amy chatted with us about our plans for the next day giving lots of ideas and local tips. When we left we walked further down the road to admire the spectacular view over the valley. I would highly recommend a visit to the White Hart. It would be a perfect stop on the Tamar Valley Discovery trail as well. Good value. Friendly service. Great food. All with an amazing view. What more could you ask for!!
S. A.
