Reviews of Treby Arms
L. A.
We had an incredible Sunday lunch here today. Everything was absolutely perfect and portion sizes were great. Staff were really friendly and the wine list is interesting and well priced. £100 for four people plus a bottle of wine and a couple of other drinks represents seriously good value for food of this quality.
D. C.
What an absolute delight, Such a pleasant airy but cozy restaurant. I cannot recommend the Sunday lunch highly enough. It's been a long time since we received such a wonderful welcome and such fantastic service, everything was perfect, from the wonderful Hummus with fresh warm bread starter to the Roast Lamb which was very generous and perfectly cooked (in fact my friends couldn't finish theirs so I got to have extra as a takeaway). The Vanilla praline Affogato was a perfect end to a really lovely Sunday lunch, A new firm favourite for Sunday 's and we look forward to trying the regular menu. Thank you for a great day.

After enjoying a snack here on Friday (truffle fries, which were epic!!) we came back for the Sunday roast, and it did not disappoint. Trio of meat was ace. Welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Would certainly recommend.

We were in Plymouth on a short break, and looking for somewhere for a Sunday lunch when this little treasure came up on a search. It's a lovely little pub, tastefully decorated, and with beams and open fires. Starters were butternut squash soup, and crayfish cocktail; both delicious. I chose roast beef, hubby had the lamb, and our daughter had the nut roast, there were loads of veg and big slices of beautifully cooked meat. All the staff were lovely and friendly, there were goid local beers. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
M. Š.
I had Sunday roast there. And I had time of my life here in UK. Where I was literally every week going somewhere to hunt for the perfect Sunday roast. That place is stunning if you're looking for well run restaurant with great staff that's where you should go.
B. M.
Lovely little pub with great food and reasonable prices. Lots of lovely bar food to supplement the choice of starters and the venison was amazing. Highly recommended. We sat downstairs near the bar and got to chat with lots of lovely locals.
A. B.
YOU HAVE TO TRY THE FOOD! Me and my wife had the best meal out yesterday, the staff are amazing and the food is absolutely perfect!
We will definitely be returning when next in Devon
R. H.
Never disappoints with a unique and well put together menu. The only thing we would change would be the party/pop music in the background as it did not fit with the ambiance. However, this did not hinder our visit as the food was fantastic as always.
M. J.
The Treby Arms has undergone a renovation & is under new management. I popped in for Sunday lunch and had the calamari, mushroom bruschetta, prawn & crayfish spaghetti & the roast belly pork. All of the food was delicious. The service was spot on & I love the new look to the place.
I really hope the locals make the most of the changes & this place stays the test of time.
I’m looking forward to my next visit to Sparkwell as I will definitely be coming here to try more of the menu

Just had some amazing food and drinks with my family today will definitely be back a big thank you to the chef and the feont of house staff

Visited on 12/8/22. Were made very welcome and had a fun evening, made by Fran & Nicky. Food and service excellent! Well worth a visit!
C. G.
Great experience. All 6 of us had amazing food and drinks. Attentive staff. Price not bad.
D. W.
Always fantastic. Michelin starred pub meals - good set meal offers at times. The a la carte is more expensive of course, but stunning!
R. J.
Well decorated and a cosy atmosphere. On a reduced winter menu so don't go by the web site menu. Staff polite and happy to attend all your needs. Food was very good and tasty. Restrooms available and free parking adjacent to the pub/restaurant.
I. H.
Had one of the nicest burgers ever, meat was so tasty, staff were very friendly and whole experience was great
T. W.
Extremely good place for a meal. Set in a rural pub, the restaurant isn't ostentatious, making for a relaxing setting.
N. R.
Absolutely perfect. My sister called very last minute yesterday afternoon hoping to get us a table and we were welcomed with open arms, we were greeted by a very friendly young waiter on arrival who seated us upstairs, the restaurant was immaculate and extremely clean even though they had already completed a busy lunch service. The staff were very attentive and extremely friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this lovely quaint village pub 🥰 we will return for sure if we are ever in the area again.
H. D.
Went for Sunday lunch and the food was exceptional. Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a lovely atmosphere, fantastic food, and very attentive service. Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior - it's definitely worth a visit! We will 100% be back (many times I'm sure!)

My family took our mum to the Treby to celebrate her 80th birthday today. I'll keep this review short and sweet but I could go on for ever. Amazing service from start to finish and the food is to die for. High end, restaurant quality food at very reasonable prices. 5 of us dined like kings (and queens) for a very reasonable £217 all in (3 courses including a few beers, a fabulous G&T and a very respectable bottle of Pino). The service was impeccable yet relaxed and very friendly. This is an absolute gem of a place.
H. T.
Fabulous food , lovely atmosphere and excellent service.
C. G.
Excellent service and excellent food. They made a special effort for my young daughter who is a fussy eater so thank you. The venison is outstanding!
We will be going back very soon.
A. J.
This place is absolutely amazing I highly recommend coming here. The service is absolutely amazing and you are greeted by very friendly and polite waiters, then you choose your food and they do not rush you at all then you get all your food quickly and also while you are waiting you are given tasters. The food is the best food I have ever tried. I recommend going there so much and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I especially enjoyed the Cornish crab and beef fillet.
M. R.
Much more than a gastropub! A village pub with amazing food and good restaurant service. We had an imaginative take on Ham Egg & Chips and a Seafood Thai curry with fresh chunks of fish and prawns. All delicious and comfortable chic atmosphere. Highly recommend.
C. W. S.
Best ‘posh pub’ chips I’ve ever had. Will be back. 🧡
J. C.
Fantastic local pub offering calming settings with a menu and staff to be proud of.
We were really looked after by the hostess with most-ess. My daughter has lots of food allergies and they catered for her extremely well, she was spoken to beautifully by the hostess and she has really got her confidence back in eating out after several bad experiences.
The food was superb and we will be in a hurry to return, thanks to all at the Treby for making it such a positive experience.

Party of 4 for Sunday roast. While there was a slight wait for the food to arrive, it was worth the wait. Meal was excellent and the food was fantastic. Highly recommend to stop here especially over the festive period
P.
They didn't get my order right (cooked medium rare, no seasoning) but what they did bring me was delicious - a sentiment echoed by the rest of my table. In addition, while service was slow, the young lady who mostly attended us was cheerful, attentive and happy to answer even my stupidest questions. Absolutely worth stopping by if you're in the area.
P. C.
Absolutely stunning meal.. would certainly recomend this place to anyone.. 5 *
A. W.
Food was delicious, and left extremely full and satisfied. Lady the served us was welcoming and friendly. The fact they allow dogs downstairs is a big plus for us and unexpected given the setting. We will definitely be back to try other options and make room for desserts. One improvement as individuals would be a couple other options for vegetarians on the main courses or as a special (although the higity pie, was one of the best we have encountered, we do get these alot in Devon and Cornwall). However, to note we didn't ask if they could of adapted something, so this may of been a possibility.
Thankyou & see you again soon!
D. B.
Absolutely cracking food. Service was excellent!
M. H.
Fabulous food , highly recommended. Thank you x
J. W.
Food was great but freezing cold in the restaurant!
I. P.
Excellent choice of well-cooked and very tasty food.
C. h.
While visiting the area we stopped here while waiting for the zoo to open. The food was absolutely fantastic and the lovely lady who served us was brilliant too. We were so happy we went back for dinner the following night which did not disappoint.
Really happy we popped in and thanks for a wonderful service!
I. B.
Michelin quality food served in a relaxed country pub.
M. E.
Lovely venue, friendly and helpful staff. Would return as food very very tasty. Only complaint Sunday lunch wasn't very warm and gravy needed with such a huge (but dry) Yorkshire. Still the best Sunday lunch we've had out in a very long time
N. A.
Really good pub grub but kind of expected a bit more from the food to be honest. Tasted fine but just lacked a bit of "special". Didnt have the meal I wanted (lamb) due to out of stock (annoying but just about understandable as it does happen), so had the burger. Burger was overcooked unfortunately and I wasnt asked how I wanted it cooked so just assumed it would come out "medium". Unfortunately not!
The beef/chicken roasts which other members of my party had were apparently good.
J. A.
All four of us massively enjoyed eating here. The presentation of the food is practically Michelin starred, the taste is not as good, but for the price this is excellent quality and value.
Z. R.
Fantastic food, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be going back!
B. D.
Service is perfect so is the food, squeezed us in for Sunday lunch and it really was one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve ever had, literally everything was cooked to perfection and so tasty. Perfect pub and wish I lived closer!
M. G.
Great food, great prices and great staff
S. E.
Our first time visiting the Treby and will definitely be going back!! friendly and great service. The food was delicious, a birthday celebration so starters, Mains and dessert to share, all of us enjoyed all courses and good value too, would recommend a visit to anyone.
C. T.
After much changing of chef(s) the pub has now a different menu. The new menu is short but with sufficient choice for us. We had the soup, crab, lamb and fish of the day - all excellent. Really good wine at reasonable price. certainly will be going back - recommended.
L. C.
Fabulous little pub with excellent food (including vegan option) and great service. Very friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.
R. P.
Simply stunning! Made my dad's 70th!
J. S.
We treated ourselves to a meal at the Treby Arms.My wife had fish, I had the veggie option both superb food, myriad of flavors. Excellent wine list and superb cheese board choice..Slight down side we had the table upstairs right by the in and out doors of the kitchen. Felt like one table too many. Still 10/10 ...
J. H.
It's a 5 star experience. We enjoyed a wonderful time with family, everything is so carefully considered and the food is just what you would expect from a place with such a widely known reputation in the Devon area. Their was a slight miscommunication regarding the service charge but we did not care because we had a really memorable time.
R. B.
Absolutely top notch food and service. Last visit was when it held a Michelin Star but this time it surpassed that experience.
Would recommend to anybody who appreciates a great chef and front of house.
Just go and enjoy !!
P. H.
This is the first time I've ever been, so I can't compare it to when it was run by Anton. This iteration is more of a simplified pub fair than attempting to get Michelin stars. The investor has been recently dehydrated and presented a freak pleasant atmosphere.
The food was mostly ok although the fish of the day came completely on the bone so I couldn't eat half of it due to the underside fillets being full of pin bones. I also overheard one other customer who didn't seem do keen when her fish came out. I'm unsure if they'll continue to serve it like this but the menu doesn't mention it's on the bone so double check before ordering.
Otherwise the food itself was tasty, our starters of prawns and calamari were well cooked, my main tasted fine and my wife enjoyed the pork belly. The Eaton mess was also good.
Overall the food was fairly good although there could be few improvements, perhaps a little more choice on the menu as it was very simplified, but perhaps this is what they're going for.
D. D. w.
Fantastic food and service we will definitely return. Thank you for the extra effort on the special occasion.
E. R. A. O.
Simply superb. The stonebass and monkfish were fantastic, one of the best wish meals I've ever had. Fig cheesecake was also to die for with clever touches of cinnamon. The service was friendly yet highly professional, and we had an excellent and very memorable time. Thank you all.
K. B.
A great find! The menu has some pub classics but also some different options, and the food was delicious. Great service too. Totally recommend it!
D. H.
Nice pub with good staff. I would give 5 stars but in fairness I haven't eaten there, although I've been told by many people its very good
E. L.
We had a very disappointing meal here. The main course of mallard breast at £30 described as pink and tender by the waitress was, in fact, so tough we had to ask for a steak knife and had blood oozing from it. This was only chosen as one of our party doesn't eat fish and was, therefore, very limited on choice. The rest of the meal was ok but nothing like as good as I was led to believe it would be. I won't unfortunately, recommend this pub again.
O. C.
Food here is fantastic. Staff can be a little slow to serve but this is totally made up for by their friendliness and knowledge. The food is amazing and well deserving of the Michelin star.
J. T.
Amazing food, amazing waitresses, and lovely setting for an ideal fine dining meal! 10/10 would recommend highly.
B. H.
3rd time in 3 years. Would go back every week if it werent for the fact that it would spoil the excitement and build up I have ahead of going. Because quite simply the food, wine and service are all undeniably the best I have experienced in the South West. It was a Tuesday lunch in October and it was packed out, that pretty much says it all!! Just treat yourself and go!
S. W.
Lovely atmosphere, warm and cosy. We both had the fish and chips, which by the way were TCC, which apparently means triple cooked chips! Staff were very friendly and attended our every need.
U. F.
I was just visiting with a friend who was booking a special meal for her husband s birthday. It was clean, tidy, and we'll set out. I had the impression of a cosy place to eat. Must try it soon.
S. S.
Excellent food, great service, a bit pricey, but very worth it.
R. S.
Excellent roast! Have been a few times now and always incredible food and outstanding service!
G. M.
Delicious food and wine. Generous portions. Wonderful welcome. Beautiful spot. Excellent service. Wish we lived closer!

A. J.
Gorgeous food in a gorgeous area! Staff are so professional and friendly
m. t.
Amazing nut roast! no better way to spend a sunday then having a cold pint and sunday roast here!
D. M.
First class country pub with great good. Set in a small village near Plympton in Devon, near a zoo and a golf club. Dartmoor not far from the pub, where the owner was a winner of our Master Chief in 2012. We worth a visit just to taste the Jail Ale , which is one of the best beers in the area , enjoy. 😆😆
J. Y.
Superb place to go for drinks, food or both. Very attentive and welcoming staff. Great menu and a wide selection of artisan beers, ales and ciders
d. b.
When youve been for a 7mile walk with 4kids the sight of the Treby Arms was a relief, my kids had some cheesy chips that where very tasty and chunky, and the cold pint went down a treat. Very Friendly staff. Extremley clean and im a total toilet critic and the loo's where very clean
Recommend this place to anyone passing pop in for a quick drink
K. H.
Been here a few times. First time faultless second time marginal and today was disappointing. Food great (although still hungry) but service was poor and staff seemed totally disinterested. It is a shame to say but there are far better places to visit.
J. M.
Looking forward to come back for a full meal, rather than just dessert, which was fabulous all by itself!
L. T.
Excellent Sunday roast...3 courses for less than £18 can't fault it. Every course was perfectly yummy! we will be back again.
M.
Such lovely surprise. Low prices, delicious burger and decent pints. Plus very children friendly and with a parking lot! Highly recommended.
J. G.
Katy and I had the amazing 8 course taster menu. Especially enjoyed the Turbot and the lamb dishes. Seriously recommend this place for the best food in the area

Visited whilst on holiday in the area. Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and amazing food.
K. g.
A great little gastro pub to visit in the village of Sparkwell, Devon.. its about 10 minutes drive off of the main A38.. there is a bar, where they serve every drink imaginable, speciality gin and also cocktails. They offer a bar snack menu, reasonably priced and also a fine dining restaurant menu which is served to you upstairs.. the food tastes out of this world, the chefs work hard to produce good quality, great tasting and amazing looking dishes.. the front of house team are very friendly and warm and cannot be more helpful.. the public areas are clean and well maintained... all in all a great place to visit!..
S. H.
Classy but relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff. Would visit again for a special occasion as it is on the pricier side. Child and dog friendly.
