Amazing food, excellent service and great view. The food was lovely and served hot. Great flavours and taste would highly recomend this place. Its pet friendly too. The local dinners were friendly and chatty too. Nice local pub. Lovely atmosphere. A bit pricey (Extra) but worth the money. Hope this helps. Went back again today for the first time in a long time . was amazed at the fantastic refurb that has taken place. I had the light bite gammon steak that came with triple cooked chips, garden peas and a Friday egg. The gammon was lovely it wasn't salty like some can been and wasn't chewy either, the chips were absolutely delicious. My mum had the small fish and chips which she thoroughly enjoyed. It came with mushy peas which I had a taste of and I can honestly say they were the nicest mushy peas I've tasted in a while. Staff were friendly and professional Lovely light lunch

The best meal out I've had in years! The food was excellent and plenty, and you can taste the good quality ingredients. There's a good range of drinks including some very good less-widely-known ales. An extremely pleasant experience. Amazing food and helpful treatment from our server. With my allergy it makes eating out difficult and after finding out the meals I could eat we decided on sharing a bao bun with beef in sweet chilli sauce starter. This was divine and perfect to share, you'll just need to ask for another plate. I didn't get a picture of it as we were too occupied with eating it, it is a flat bao bun topped with the beef smothered in the sauce and strips of veg. The mains were just as good and very filling so no room for dessert unfortunately.

Absolutely amazing from start to finish. Friendly , polite and very helpful. Great atmosphere. Visited with friends for lunch exactly 11 of us on Tuesday afternoon. Service that we have received was top class and all the staff were on point and very professional especially Hannah. You did an amazing job. Food was delicious and big shout out to chef for getting our food out at the same time. Your Peppered Steak Pie is one of the best one I ever had. We all had an amazing time. Mother's Day meal with the family. Plenty of parking on site and we were shown immediately to our table despite the pub being very busy. Prompt service with drinks and menus. Took some time for the meals to be served however this was not unexpected owing to how busy the pub was and it was not unpleasantly long. The food was hot, well cooked and large portions. Condiments were supplied quickly when asked for. Responsive when asking for the bill. Great dining experience in a lovely venue. Recommend the 3 meat Sunday roast!

A great cosy homely feel to this place, the staff are pleasant and friendly, and then there's the food - Ohhh that Sunday roast was divine, I almost ordered another one it was that good. Not overfacing in size but just enough actually. The only letdown was the side of creamed spinach which I paid £3 for and was disgusting and I couldn't eat - they surprisingly didn't take it off my bill. However, the Crème Brulee was also gorgeous, so all in all a very pleasing experience. I will be back

What an absolute delight if a place. Service was outstanding. We came unexpected, was really busy. We know next time to book to secure a place. However a space was found for 5 of us. Food included 3 children’s meals which went down a treat. Southern fried chicken burger and the cheese and onion pie was the adult choices. Both plates were cleared, and by gosh I was so full. Special food was the three times cooked chips, you’d visit many many places before you got as good as they were. Last but not least the onion rings… beautifully fresh with bubbly batter. So full didn’t have room for dessert but there was plenty of choice to be had. Children had brownie and an ice cream which I think looking at the cleared plates was enjoyed by all. Would certainly recommend and we are going to try something else as the menu contains lots of choices. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

We had a lovely family meal here last night. Although the place was really busy it is well designed and felt very intimate. The meal was well presented, quite large portions and tasty. The bar service was a little slow and we had to keep going to the bar to remind them, but like I say they were busy. Would recommend this place, and it's advisable to book.

Really nice country pub. Rang on the morning and got a table booked on bank holiday weekend easily. Amazing food and well priced too. I had never had a Peppered steak pie until I went here. Can honestly say I wish I bought 2 more pies to take home. The staff were very knowledgable when it comes to food and allergies, they catered for all our needs. Extremely family friendly place to visit.

Great decor, modern natural colours with tweed touches. Traditional English menu with good hearty dishes but very limited vegetarian main course options. Just cheese and onion pie with mushy peas and chunky but pale chips (needed an extra 2 minutes cooking time to give them a golden crispy coat). No vegan option. Unfortunately the two starters were sent back, the peppered mushrooms were crunchy due to the abundance of whole green, not black peppercorns which gave it a weird taste and fish cakes that were way too salty.

Friday evening at 7.15pm, the place looked very busy outside. 4 of us were shown to a quiet table inside. Service was absolutely fabulous giving us extra time to order because we were talking. Drinks provided quickly and food arrived quickly despite the premises looking full. The young staff were efficient and very pleasant to talk to. Food was excellent and all 3 courses enjoyed.

It's clear that the chef is passionate about the menu. There seems to be a very deliberate selection of food which must allow the chefs to take care to get each dish right. We've eaten here many times, and it's our favourite local pub. It's a lovely place to go. Very clean, modern decor blended nicely into a traditional setting. The waiting staff are exceptional and very well trained, and the manager runs a very friendly, well run pub with great food which is hard to beat; The steak we had last time was epic. We took my parents a few weeks ago who were both very impressed. A great example of how good an independent pub can really be. Well done!

I ordered the smoked haddock risotto instead which my partner was having and I could of made a better one myself. Overcooked rice. They had no problem taking gammon back and did not charge me for risotto. I would go back but there are better placed in a short distance

Always great food. I struggle to pick from the menu as there are so many things I want to try. Always a good choice of ales and lagers and some mulled cider and wine in the winter months. A nice lounge area with an open flame (great for reading the paper on a sunday) and a large dining area with different seating areas. This is somewhere we tend to go for a treat as it is so good!

Pity the descriptions did the match what we got, "black pudding stack" consists of 5 or 6 slices of potato, with a 5mm slice of black pudding. 3 of us ordered it, none of expected what we were served. A bowl of soup which was 8 or 9 spoons. It felt like they'd scrimped on the portion size. Another slice of black pudding, 3 more spoon fulls of soup would have had it a get a 4 or 5 star rating. Pity to drop it to 3, as the food was very good. But I did feel let down. I'd go back, but I'd avoid the starters menu.

While visiting family in Preston we wanted to find somewhere to eat outside of the city centre. Someone mentioned the Boars Head at Hoghton and we weren't disappointed. The food was delicious , I had rump of lamb which is a favourite of mine and it was the best I've ever had. We will definitely be back.

Been to the boars head many times over the last few years. It is a very good local place to eat and drink and now since the refurbishment has gone up a notch. The hotel is clean and comfortable and warm and friendly. All the staff are very attentive and the food is very tasty.
