My wife and I had Sunday lunch here today. We're new to Penwortham and had been recommended the Fleece as a nice pub. First impressions were that the building was quite tatty and in urgent need of a refurbishment. The window frames were peeling and cracking. Several window units had blown so you couldn't see out of them. The radiators were on full blast in spite of being a summer's day. It was oppressively hot inside, we guessed pushing 30 centigrade so decided to eat outside. The furniture outside was dirty tired and damaged like the interior. We ordered two duo Sunday lunches which included both turkey and beef. They arrived 30 minutes later served by a polite and helpful staff member. She said she'd just started. The menu said we'd get seasonal vegetables (plural) but only received two sprigs of broccoli. The meat was tasty as was the Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. However the roast potatoes were hard in the middle and the cauliflower cheese was also undercooked. The lunches were served on small plates and cost £13.49 each which are expensive for what we received. Other pub chains offer much better value. The toilets were also in poor condition and smelt. All in all we were disappointed with our experience. The waitress said she'd tell the manager but he didn't approach us to deal with our concerns. Greene King seriously need to do some quality checking because on our experience today, the pub needs a thorough refurb and the chef's quality needs close supervision. Disappointing and poor value.

Paid £1.79 for an entire jacket potato. had to ask for the chefs name due to how shockingly good the food was. I believe he’s called Alex and his jacket potato puts a food truck to shame. Very much recommend!

Absolute cracker of a meal Gemini on front of house was lovely, took care of us and our order fast and efficiently. Complements to Chef Matt for the amazing food ! Thanks again both, would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely time with family and friends on Wednesday when we went for lunch. Ample seating with a good amount of space between tables for privacy. I had the Alabama bbq burger served with sea salted chips which was lovely and my children had the southern fried chicken burger with chips and the kids tomato pasta which she is very fussy about and ate it all. Was a lovely atmosphere and a great place to have lunch and a catch up. Thank you to the lovely staff for such a nice experience!

Great food, friendly staff, good service. Came for food and nothing was a issue. Will be returning soon. Since my last visit:- I came in for food and drinks, with my friend and their daughter. Food came quickly, despite being busy. Food was hot, and decent portion size, especially from the little eats menu. The staff was welcoming, friendly and service. The little eats pudding, came out shortly after she finished the meal. Toilets clean, pub cleaned and tidy, huge garden perfect for summer. Will be returning soon.

Absolutely adore this place! Food is super tasty and the staff are beyond helpful and kind, super thankful to staff members like Mia, Phoebe, Luke & Shelley (just to name a few)! The quiz night on Thursday is definitely worth checking out too ❤

I reviewed The Fleece two years ago which I have deleted as it wasn't a glowing report. However I felt after last night's visit I needed to change my review. Went with the future hubby for a date night covid measures are in place and being done very well. We had to check-in at our table and download the app to order. All very straight forward and simple. I think the guy that seated us was called Jack (I'm rubbish at remembering names) he was very helpful and made sure that the changes we asked for to the meals we ordered made it to the kitchen. When the food came everything was correct and all meals were pipping hot which was a huge bonus. This may sound like an obvious thing but we've had a few meals out recently where the food has come out and it's been lukewarm. I had the low calorie lasgne which was very tasty, one of the nicest I've had in a while. The only things I'd comment in was that the menu said I'd came with a large dressed salad .. it was a small handful of lettuce leaves with a few slices of cucumber and a slice of tomato. My partner had Hunters chicken and gammon egg and chips (he claims he's still a growing boy 🤣) he made some changes to his meals and was very happy when they came out almost spot on. Only thing missing was the coleslaw from his hunters chicken. All in all huge improvement from my last visit staff were helpful and friendly, food was very good, and it was a lovely end to a slightly tough day.

This is the best local pub in Penwortham, lovely staff, great atmosphere and great music. This is my go to local because it has the best selection of drinks for the best prices. Everytime I go here i get great service and have a great time. I got served by Mimi the excellent barmaid who poured a perfect pint of Guinness!

Been in today with myself and me feet. I was overwhelmed with the hospitality from the staff (especially Phoebe and Luke). Wonderful atmosphere and great for a pint and good nosh out the back garden. I recommend the Italian sausages.
