Reviews of Phantom Winger

The crown of burgers is very good, but if I had anything negative to say is the wait time when it was very quiet was still a long wait for the food to come out, but still worth that wait as the food here is always good.
R. B.
Steak meal was very good but the fresh peas spoilt it. Tbh I think that they wasn't cook well and possibly microwaved.
Fish and chips was a very big meal. The fish was massive

Breakfast ... very enjoyable....next door to the Ibis Preston North.
Sunday dinner...best avoided....very dry....3 attempts to get any gravy...chicken hard and dry.
We eat regular in a hungry horse establishment, Oystercatcher Penarth Marina, Ship in Barry & the 3 Elms in Whitchurch (Cardiff areas) all 5 star.

Wacky was great, in the week it was quiet which was good for my little one. Went to the main pub to have food which was very tasty. I had the burger and my friend had the chicken and waffles.
We sat at a table that had a TV on, nice little addition to help distract the kids. Service was good and staff were friendly
F. W.
Came for a meal on way home after a day out with the family (including 3 under 3's). and the staff were amazing. The woman in wacky warehouse was lovely and considerate. Thanks to the Lady who found me an actual baby spoon for my 6 month old. The young bar maid was very friendly and didn't stop from when we got there. The manager was very helpful too and kept coming back to check on us and made sure we had everything we needed. Even when I forgot to pay for drinks at the bar the lady came over a while later and gently reminded me 🤦🏻♀️. I don't usually get such a good reception with my tribe lol but they were amazing so thank you. So sorry didn't catch names.

Excellent food and service, had the big plate breakfast and was lovely, highly recommended

We recently had a family pre-wedding get together from Cheshire we ordered food and it came from the kitchen super fast, the staff were so pleasant also could join in our fun. If we were in town again we would definitely make another visit.
Worth the 5* given

Great pub, lovely food and large portions. Fantastic price and brilliant dog friendly. I notified pub in advance that my sister will bring her dog and the pub was very accommodating. Little gem for those who have dogs. We had a fantastic time and the quiz night was fun

Good restaurant to go to for a chill time, great for families and good chicken strips. Huge credit for Kelsey behind the bar she has been amazing, friendly and very welcoming, she serves very quickly and is always on point! Do not underestimate this pub!!! Always come come again thanks to her and her team

I came in the other day and the staff were very welcoming. the foods great and the atmosphere is always great
One member of staff in particular I believe her name is Kat always goes above and beyond to cater to my every need!
5/5 will be returning again

Nice Hungry Horse establishment just off the M55/M6 Jct.
Plenty of parking and a hotel next door so a good stopping point for an overnight rest.
There is wheelchair accessible access but there are steps once in the place. It might be best to book online in advance (or call ahead) if you need a non step table, I'm sure they'll reserve a table for you.
We went on a Monday, which is a Steak special day with reduced prices for selected steak meals. One steak meal was unavailable, which was disappointing, one turned up without several items.
I didn't complain about the items, the server looked so apologetic for 2 meals arriving 5 mins after the others I couldn't send a meal back for missing vegetables!
You'd expect on the special day you'd have plenty of the "specials" in stock, especially at 3:30pm when we arrived!
Despite the hiccups it was still a nice meal and the food was a good standard, as Hungry Horses always seem to be.
The only reason I've knocked a star off is this is the second visit where we've chosen food that's unavailable.
The visit before they were out of nearly all desserts (again an early dinner so not like it's busy) and that was again disappointing.
A. S.
Last eight days we have used this pub staff are very friendly and helpful . Food is good when they have what you order .Think staffing issues need sorting only one lady doing serving doing the drinks waiting on tables and then clearing tables after .Well done Elizabeth .This is A big place with people coming in all the time food sometimes cold as not enough staff to deliver a good service .
C. B.
Lovely and clean, food steaming hot, not a place to go if your on a diet/counting calories, even light options. 8 of us different meals, lasagne needed bit more meaty taste, less white sauce.
J. K.
Food itself is good, but when I was here(dinner)it took forever for the food to arrive.
Main dish: 50 minutes after ordering
Dessert: 2 hours and 20 minutes after ordering/ over 90 minutes after finishing main dish and asking 2x when the dessert was ready.
J.
Ive been a few times, but the last 2 times we have been disappointed with the food, (it was really busy to be fair).
The staff were lovely and resolved the problem.
Also they have a whacky warehouse for the kids. Plus an outdoor play area, not big but kids still like it (outdoor playground is free)
S. O.
Absolutely made up with our visit ... staff were so helpful in fitting us in last minute on a Saturday as they were fully booked . Our party of 12 + baby .. seated us close to each other over 3 tables ... always have a amazing meal when we dine here
P. W.
Average food and an average experience.
Some items such as the curry and gammon are decent enough but others such as the steak and ale pie really aren't with very little steak and what is inside is tough, fatty and chewy. The cauliflower bites were like baby food inside with mushy cauliflower and the 'batter' was like rubber rather than being crisp.
Also, a starter we ordered to come with our main courses was missed off and we had to go to the bar to ask for it.
After our main courses we ordered some dessert for our kids, initially we tried ordering the apple crumble but that wasn't available, so we had the brownie, then the lemon sorbet but that wasn't available so this ended up as chocolate icecream, then the strawberry and clotted cream icecream but this also wasn't available so we had to settle for raspberry ripple.
All this out of stock on a Friday lunchtime, so I can imagine there will be a lot of disappointment over the weekend.
Added to which we had a 30 minute wait for the desserts to arrive bearing in mind we had ordered 2 icecreams and 2 pre made brownies and then they only arrived after we went to the bar and asked after another table who ordered theirs 10 minutes after ours received them 5 minutes before us.
It was not overly busy during our visit and judging by the size of the Phantom Winger I would estimate it was barely a third full.
R. B.
Me and a friend got the Chuffalo Shoulder, Southern fried burger wrapped in tortilla it was sooo nice. I'd recommend. Also the staff was really lovely, polite and attentive. R x
C. R.
Fab food, welcoming atmosphere, fantastic friendly staff, lovely little play area for children (also a wacky warehouse on site) convinent and good location
B. O.
It's like your standard chain pub. Similar to Weatherspoons. I believe part of the "Hungry horse" chain specifically. Not quite as cheap as spoons, and service wasn't as supernaturally fast. Food is roughly of the same quality, although the standards were seemingly low at this particular one in at least this instance:
Four people ate. Three had meals you would expect from a chain like this. However, my girlfriend is coeliac and ordered a melted cheese and onion chutney sandwich which was one of only two gluten free options. The side salad was a few pitiful wilted leaves that were turning brown, and the cheese was softened, and far from totally melted. The bread was small, thin, and unappealing, but it's gluten free so that isn't necessarily on the eatery. Added to that the chutney was surreally vimto flavour. I thought they knew some amazing food pairing the rest of the world hadn't stumbled upon yet. But no, it's really bad. Just like chutney they put vimto concentrate in. Imagine that with some sense crumbly bread, not quite melted cheese, and token side salad that should have been sacrificed to the compost bin days ago.
We complained and they swapped it out for a chicken club Sandwich with no hesitation. The replacement sandwich was nothing special but also nothing to complain about.
The staff generally seemed lovely. Probably just a rare slip up on the cheese sandwich.
c. g.
Very slow service. Food okay but nothing special. Having complained to the company I did after about 2 weeks receive from customer relations dept free w w passes. They dealt with my problem politely and fairly.
C. M.
Attended the pub for a family gathering no booking no hassle at all..the whole team and staff were friendly and polite Paul the manager was very acommatading as a few of my guests were vegan lol..us meat eaters enjoyed the food as did the vegans LOL we would highly recommended the venue food and service and will definitely be returning keep up the good work guys
B. C.
Large pub (Hungry Horse app available for menu, prices and table service) plenty of parking. High chairs & wheelchair access.
We had curry which was very tasty but a bit runny. Came with naan, rice and poppadom.
Friendly and helpful staff and nice atmosphere
H. H.
Very big pub, great for families but food rather standard. Would visit again as easy to park
C. D.
One of our two meals arrived cold but was quickly sorted. No other complaints, all good
A. H.
Great play area and huge pub. Very clean and well presented. Food took a little while to come but nothing major.
T. H.
We had a great time & the food was delicious. The staff were fantastic & the bar & tables were clean. The only disappointment was the toilets being in a poor unkempt condition.
A. B.
Pulled off the motorway for fuel and spied this place so went in for some food. All day breakfast was OK but not the best. But reasonably priced, clean wash room facilities and friendly staff get the thumbs up. The 80 pence for a single slice of bread as toast, gets the thumbs down.
T. H.
Great food and portion sizes!
Couple items were out of stock on the menu but a lot of places are having issues at the moment.
Friendly staff and quick service.
A. F.
Very clean, prices were perfect and the food was amazing. Friendly staff and service was fast
S. J.
Sorry to say on my first visit to this place was a bit disappointing, I had been out with my friends for the afternoon & they asked if I would like to go for some tea. I said yes that would be nice so they were full of praises for the ( Phantom Winger) , Inside was looking great quite busy too,s we sat at a table & ordered, our meal came & was looking good then when my friends husband's meal came it was very much different to what had been ordered & they never told him that they had not got some of the items that was supposed to be on his order they just put a substitute item on his plate & other items were quite overdone as if they had been warmed up bacon was very salty & greasyso we complained about the meal to whi h the manager explained they had new chefs & I must say she was very apologetic about it all & offered us a refund on his meal which was fine but after we had finished eating what was edible she saw that there was quite a lot left on our plates & asked what was wrong with our food, to which my friend replied chicken was dry & over cooked to which again she was very apologetic & offered us a full refund on our meals which she did for us so I think it will be a while b4 we go in there again x

Had a lovely evening dinner.
Close to Ibis it was conveniently located. Ample parking available.
Prior booking is needed.
L. R.
We used the eat out to help out scheme for the first time and couldn't believe the quality of food for the price, I had the chicken salad with dirty fries and my partner has the chick n wings and we couldn't fault anything one bit. The staff are sticking strictly to the guidelines which puts your mind to rest and I felt safe eating there. Thank you and keep up the good work, we shall be back
T. D.
Nice food! Great if you need to entertain children too! A small wait for food but not too bad! Nice atmosphere 👍🏼
M. W.
Excellent customer service from all staff. Food delicious and reasonable priced. Quick service was made to feel welcomed and valued especially by staff member Paul
K. J. (.
Lovely food, highly recommend the chicken new yorker. Very hospitable staff. Great play area for kids.
M. W.
Needed some were to eat cheap and cheerful some good deals busy day but still it needed to be cleaner no excuse for dirty tables in an eatery or chipped pot's
K. K.
Near. It's nice, children can go crazy, you can eat something, drink something warm and cold my child is very happy, we always use it often. I recommend 💋👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻😘
I. C.
Excellent food. Not enough staff. The staff working were run off their feet.
K. S.
Amazing management! So helpful and caring with lots of local knowledge. Very personable, going out of his way to accommodate and support my family. Thank you Paul! Good offers/promotions on food and nice facilities for children.
H.
Amazing!!! Absolutely fantastic service from Becky who went above and beyond to ensure we had a fabulous evening. The food was ok but the service ensured this was a 5 star evening.
A. T. (.
Very quiet this early evening which might not be surprising since it was Christmas Eve-Eve when we visited.
Food was lovely and quick to arrive. Also, with all of the available offers (Monday: kids £1-1.50, adults 2 for £9.49) the price was extremely reasonable! Just what I expect from a Hungry Horse pub.
R. R.
Lovely 😊 friendly staff (Paul and Kelsey) made our first visit here really good and finished our day out to Preston x we will be back x thanks lots xx
N. H.
Visited the Phantom Winger on Wednesday at 5pm (table of 11) . Food was great and was delivered fast and by friendly staff . Would definitely recommend this place , and we will 💯% be visiting again...
B. S.
Brilliant meal atmosphere was great as usual spotlessly clean well worth a trip
M. W.
Huge complicated menu with way too many offers that we actually couldn't understand. Staff were friendly, food was slow, they completely forgot one main and when it came 25 mins late it had the wrong chips. Waitress apologised but service is pretty poor generally on the food side.
P. S.
Great pub, very friendly helpful staff, food was very nice
d. r.
Would have like to give more but frozen yorkshire pudding on my plate no way
D. F.

Just visited the Phantom Winger this week. So pleased to see Paul the manger back. Amazing food! Back up to the high standards. Place had gone down over Christmas when we visited last, not sure what had happened. Family friendly. Nice and clean. Good value for money. We will be back. Highly recommended
k. s.
Very nice pub. What a hidden gem. Lovely staff and friendly springer spaniel.
p. b.
Good food good prices excellent staff
t. h.
Excellent can't be beat best fish and chips est I have ever had coffee brilliant and surondigs seconed to none out side seatings
n. r.
Food was good, a little disappointed they moved us to a L shaped seating arrangement instead of a long table, as my wife had booked it 6 weeks previously. But once the beer flowed all was forgiven and had a brilliant night.
N. G.
Was over an hour wait for food, can expect that when busy but it wasn't we waited over 30 mins for drinks too, but that being said the staff and food was excellent.
C. c. C. c.
Nice pub. Nice food and nice staff. Was very helpful to me after my car broke down
G. N.
Seating arrangements not upto the mark.Congested if its a bigger group.
Food was okay
H. N.
Food came out slowly and 2 out of 7 were waiting and had to ask for food twice. Then still waited a further 10 minutes for 1 to come out. Took order and then told scampi wasn't available, coffee was cold. Ice-cream and pudding took a further 15 minutes to come out and we had to chase up. Not overly impressed and doubt I'd choose to go back.
E. F.
Great value, good portion sizes, lovely friendly staff…..what more could I want?!
C. R.
Every Thursday at Phantom Winger is smartphone quiz night with Quiz Live⚡

C. L.
We eat out here most weeks not had a bad meal yet
T. C.
Went here today while staying at the Ibis Hotel next door. Lovely atmosphere, great choice of food, quick service and friendly staff. I'm a really picky eater who is further limited by being vegetarian, but I tried the no-chicken goujons and they were fantastic. Really family friendly too, with TV screens showing CBeebies at some, if not all, tables and a Whacky Warehouse indoor play area too. Would recommend to anyone
S.
Had a great night with family and friends. Even though it was busy, with an hour waiting time for food, they still brought out the babies food asap heated. He ate it all which is a first. The food was worth the waiting time, the staff were really helpful and wonderful. Might come back next week.
G. D.
Had the steak and ale pie or should that be pastry an steak pie! Very little meat in the pie more gravy an far to much pastry, won't be going there again.
w. h.
It was clean, great staff, great food , wi go again
W. C.
Went for a family get together today. Was greeted by manager Paul, and he was so lovely. Really nice pub, food was really nice, service was great. The kids loved the wackywarehouse play centre and the ice cream was to die for. Will definitely be re-visiting.
Thank you, Highly recommend this place.
A. L.

Out quickly for me.
E. P.
Stopped here for breakfast this morning after travelling from Scotland arrived about 7.50 waited for opening at 8.00 am left at 8.25 as didnt open rang twice for the number to ring out. We were not the only ones waiting
H. l.
Came here as a family of 9 and 2 babies. Service was amazing Ross sorted us a table really quickly. All the staff were so lovely and went above and beyond. Brilliant experience. Would highly recommend! Thank you so much :)
S. N.
Good food at reasonable prices. Good atmosphere. Friendly staff
T. H.
Really appreciated the help from Sian regarding menu choices. Thanks for being so cheerful 😄
A. J.
Well presented food and good service, however the taste of the food was just not there and some of it was burnt.
A. B.
Went for a quick meal with partner and Son on a random Thursday evening at the backend of lockdown. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, ordered by app from table which was straight forward and easy to use. Food arrived in good time, portion sizes were good (not massive but also not stingy) and tasted good. Both me and partner had the vegan fish and chips to try something different and both were both pleasantly surprised with how nice it was. Son had macaroni cheese with chips on side and also said was yum. Will definitely try again soon.
A. S.
Beef burger was luck warm but hubby's sizzeler was fine
C. M.
Great food. Service could have been better a little slow.
T. S.
Lovely pub, great food and drink recommend pre booking before visiting
D. S.
Came here for the first time after been in Blackpool brilliant from start to finish the manager Paul was fantastic with out kids will definatly be visiting again thank you Paul and the team
J. T.
Had a good evening meal here so popped back for breakfast at 0815, doors locked. Waited for a while in the cold and gave up. Would it be too hard to pop a note on the door, or if 8am isn't the opening time update the web and Google listing?
Updated - got in for a decent breakfast sandwich with good service at 9am 👌
S. J.
Cheap priced typical pub grub that's ok but the wait time can be over an hour.
J. T. G.
It was alright, half the menu was missing especially when the new menu came out.
I ordered regular chicken kebab without the spice or spicy salad/chips but they still sent it me but ended up with a throbbing throat/mouth for at least 10 minutes.
Would try again in near future but isn't my go to place.
L. T.
Friendly staff, cheap and cheerful pub grub.
D. P.
We ordered food and had to send one of our dishes back twice because it wasn't right. Also had to wait an age for the mango chutney which was supposed to be served automatically with our curries. The food was nice but the staff not so good
L. M.
Food was lovely, all four meals were well cooked and presented. All hot and tasty 😋
A. H.
In terms of quality you will always get what you pay for however our experience was let down by poor running of the place.
Had to attempt ordering food 3 times plus there was a wait of 90 minutes however the restaurant was pretty quiet? The first was because a fryer was broken so they weren’t cooking any starters or sharers (we asked for an onion ring stack to share). Second attempt was ordering the chicken wings/fingers to find 2/3 flavours we wanted had ran out so it was back again. Whilst i was stood at the bar during this attempt another customer was on his obvious second attempt but being told there was no gammon. 3rd attempt managed to complete order and food was satisfactory (including the onion rings which came as part of our mains however we weren’t expecting due to the fryer issue above??!)
Staff friendly enough and would return
V. P.
Had breakfast with my daughter. Very friendly staff .spotlessly clean ..breakfast was spot on ..and very decent size for the money (Deffinatly) would absolutely go back
A. B.
Standard hungry horse menu. Staff were polite and curtious. Food was cooked ok.
M. W.
This hungry horse is a lovely place to eat and drink, staff friendly and polite. I had full rack of ribs and it was a full rack.
D. W.
Great looking interior, lovely, helpful staff, the food was spot on. The facilties was lovely and clean and a good play area for children. In all a wonderful expirence .
B. J.
Very impressed with manager and staff. Manager took time to explain current rules and help with the track and trace. Not so impressed with the app. Kept on dropping WiFi and losing part of the order and it was irritating having to log into another site after completing the ordering process in order to get any discounts. Food was excellent quality and unusually for a HH it was HOT. I will reiterate the Manager went above and beyond. We'll done
R. D.
If you like a steak with a side of steak followed by a pint for 18 quid. Then one you probably need help, and two come here.
L. A. P. W.
Amazing food and super quick service. Happy to recommend!
L. H.
Great service with happy smiles and a chat . Cheered us up, thanks Paul and kelsey 👍
J. A.
The wacky warehouse was good for entertaining the kids but the food here is a bit of a let down, but then again you get what you pay for, unless we caught them on a bad day. Can get very busy on weekends and holidays as you would expect. The place was clean and the staff was friendly.
G. C.
Amazing amazing amazing - love this pub - great food great service - highly recommended
T. L.
If you want run of the mill food with a family then this is the place for you. Their ale selection is minimal and their bottled range is small as well. Its clean and bright inside and staff are friendly.
S. C.
Was served by a lovely lady called sian. Very friendly and went above and beyond to ensure our needs are met with food, drinks and the quiz app. Had a great time doing the disney quiz and food was hot and tasty.
G. M.
Staff friendly and service not to slow. Meal was ok
J. M.
Amazing service, visited last week with my family, the restaurant was super busy but the service was super fast, the staff are cheerful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for a great time phantom winger! We will definitely be returning
S.
Stopped off at the Phantom Winger for lunch and had a lovely meal, the burger was very tasty, decent chips and the staff were very helpful with the ordering system for 8 of us. A pleasant place to stop off at and enjoy some good pub grub.
I. B.
Great food and service really enjoyed it.
M.
Amazing food, but there was the flooded toilets which were cleaned up immediately. Big play area for a pub, quick service even when it was busy.
j. m.
Great food and service.Would definitely go agaim
R. R.
Quick and reasonable prices food all clean and well presented
J. G.
Originally gave 4 stars 3 years ago, just been with my family of 5 and going to slide upto 5 stars.
Food is awesome value, portion sizes are fantastic and the food is excellent for the money. Everyone enjoyed the meal and the service from the staff was amazing backed up with good knowledge of the menu when picking a gluten free option.
K. P.
I wouldnt have minded the 45 min wait for food, if when it came to the table it was hot and not just warm.
D. T.
Tucked away , almost drove past. Typical Hungry Horse menu lots of choice. Friendly staff, good food, great prices
J. H.
Food very good.. staff pleasant cheerful and helpful. Good atmosphere with clean and well maintained dining area. Good stop off point before hitting the motorway
W. Q.
Dined here this evening the 5th November 7 meals and drinks ordered one of the meals minus garlic bread due to not having any but served the meal anyway surely not being able to fulfill a meal this should be withdrawn as unavailable food is fine
J. R.
Food was okay, but took over an hour between placing our order and getting our mains. People who ordered after us get their food before us
C. S.
Lovely food reasonable prices. Staff very nice and helpful
L. H.
Good choice of drinks and a wide menu of meals. Not gourmet but well cooked and presented. Staff were excellent and very friendly. They also have small meals for smaller appetites. Also there is a adults only part of the pub which is a bit quieter
K.
We went to the wacky warehouse with 2 children and 3 adults which was very much enjoyed. They were very short staffed. We ordered a family meal and not everything was available. The hot drink machine wasn't working and so had to be fetched from the main bar. The bar had one young man working alone taking ordered for meals and drinks. The queue was as far as the door. Our food arrived with things missing. This was corrected straight away. The staff were very helpful and nice. Will go again for the play area.
T. O.
Very nice place, decent food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff
F. R.
Next door to Ibis Preston North so very convenient for meals that don't cost a fortune. We went for breakfast twice and one evening meal. The breakfasts were filling and cheap. I had the Curry as my evening meal and it was great.
Disabled access and toilets (quite clean). Good prices for families. Children's play area available. Very close to M55 and M6. Would go again if in the area.
J. S.
This is one pub-restaurant that never ceases to surprise me. Their menu is varied and inexpensive, yet the quality of the food and service always impresses me. There is a wide range of seating options, including outdoors and in the Wacky Warehouse soft-play area, which my children adore and is likewise affordable even for a large family such as mine. All in all, I always enjoy my visits and yet remain surprised that I do so.
C. B.
Good food. Was very busy so service a bit slow but would go again.
F. R.
Paul was amazing and the food was nice and hot
B. P.
When to phantom winger last night for our 55th wedding anniversary, 15 adults and great grandchildren, we all had a lovely meal pricked from the menu, every one enjoyed their meals, service very good, food hot on arrival to the tables, we all had a good get together, plenty of catching up. Thank you to all the staff for makeing our 55th wedding anniversary special, Thank you to the new manager for makeing us well come. See you soon phantom winger.

Went two nights whilst staying at the Ibis Hotel next door. There was a quiz on Thursday. Good fun. We had 2 meals for £8.99. Good and great value. Next night had 2 steaks which were also good value and delicious. Would definitely visit again.
j. o.
This is the 2nd time I have been to this restaurant. Love it here. Really friendly staff, great food and comfortable surroundings.
If you haven't been, give it a try
t.
Massive menu!!! Cheap and good food cheap drinks jug of godfather and a pint and a fruit shoot was 12 quid also have outside and inside play area
G. G.
Food was average. Good portion sizes. Service was very slow.
Short of staff? Tables not very clean.
W. “. H. H.
Went on mother's Day. Table was booked prior. Food came hot and tasty. Children loved their meals and we enjoyed our Sunday lunch.
P. C.
A great little place to stop for food, we found this a useful meeting place on the M6.....much better than any service station with good food and friendly service....only a mile off the M6!
S. S.
Customer service was brilliant... meeted greeted and seated politely and promptly..
The food was cooked to a high standard (I am a chef with over 20-years experience)... but we asked for our starters and mains to arrive at the same time which never happened.... I paid a supplement for some peppercorn sauce to go with my mixed grill which never arrived and no chicken was on my mixed grill like advertised... when I complained I got told it would be sent over separately which never happened... I didn't want to complain again for a 3rd time to the front of house staff as the kitchen made the mistakes and they did try to rectify it...
a. r.
Nice breakfast. Not expensive.
J. M.
Great manager, Paul. Happy and very inviting. Thanks
R. M.
Love this place great for kids to play then grab tea before home. They have great deals on as well kids eat for a pound on Monday with paying adult, free pudding or starter I think that's Thursday. Only thing I can say is the burgers are very hit and miss and we generally stay away from them.
v. d.
Had a fantastic mixed grill last week and a chicken tikka marsala this week. Both were excellent and the service friendly and didnt wait long for food arrival either time.
Will definitely be back.
J. H.
Love coming here with the kids. Great prices and food has always been good.
Served quite quickly and always hot.
Staff very friendly and always make sure your happy. kids get crayons and colouring sheets to keep them occupied. Good family atmosphere. In door and outdoor play areas. Good seating areas.

Food was lovely with an absolutely huge and diverse menu , decor of the place itself is pretty good. Only drawback was the service and I think that's because they were understaffed. Stuff took a while to arrive but the two people that were on never stopped, so the service wasn't bad because the staff were bad, I just think there weren't enough of them.
K. C.
Great food and friendly staff.
C. L.
Not been here for a long time because my last experience wasn't that great with the food etc but as we wanted somewhere the kids could play that was close by we gave it another shot.
Food was nice and not a long wait for it to be brought out despite it being busy in there. Staff attentive so over all pleased this time around.
M. D. B. T. S.
Really love this pub. Relaxed atmosphere. Great for children. The family tables have cartoons on your own private table. Quick service drinks and food. Cosy low key lounges but bigger spaces for larger groups. Clean bathrooms. Tasteful Xmas decorations. Friendly efficient staff. Definitely return when in the area.
S. P.
We went here on Sunday with my partners family, on entering the place was heaving, both upstairs and down. We were greeted by a member of staff and shown to our table, Upon ordering the food we was advised of a half hour wait which was reasonable given how busy the place was. No more than 20 minutes later our food had arrived and was hot and tasty. after letting our food go down we went to the children's play area which was also very busy. all in all a great place for food and the play area was very big with lots of things for the kids to explore. we live in Preston and had no idea this place was here as its well hidden just behind the motorway, needless to say we will be back and would recommend this place to people.
S. E.
Average but OK two for tenner kind of place. Very busy, service can be shocking and waits horrific****new management now****really good! Well run clean and tidy great food for the cost, nice beer, good all round much much much better. Give it a go I think you will be pleased.
p. i.
Food is reasonably priced and so are the drinks. The service at the bar always let's the place down as there is always a massive queue to order food, no option just to order drinks.
l. m.
Although it didnt seem very busy we waited 40 minutes for our food. Waitress very apologetic when she brought our food. The meals had obviously been forgotten and left under a warming device. Fries on one meal were overcooked and the other meal was inedible. Spoke to the staff who immediately replaced the fries and replaced the meal with something completely different. Although we were not initially impressed our complaints were professionally and discreetly dealt with.
J. T.
The staff in there are lovely. My food wasn't great, when they came over to ask if everything was ok, they did offer to replace my meal with another one. There's a nice atmosphere in there as well
B. C.
We ordered the buy one get one free burger on Friday deal and the burgers were cold
m. g.
Cheap and cheerful. Been to other pubs in the chain and non of them do it as well as this place. App a little limited as cant specify changes to orders but overall does the job nicely. Great for kids.
S. B.
The mushroom and ale pie is delicious 😋
G.
All 8 of us had a lovely meal food & service was good & we all sat together, was worried we couldn't get a table together as i rang a few days before to reserve a table the lady on the phone said they was fully booked! disappointed at staff as the 3 family tables near to us was reserved the whole 3 hours we was there & no one was seated at them, really do need to sort this out for a time scale rather than have three 8 seared tables empty for the full 3 hours we was there, I will mention this when I ring to reserve again in the future
j. M.
Great food, great deals and offers and lovely decor as well as very friendly service
a. G.
Decided to opt for the take out. Left work in Lancaster at 5:20 ordered one for 6 pm. Busy inside but was taken straight away to the waiting point where my wait was moments before I got my order... Food lovely and service was great. Seems to be coping well under circumstances at the moment
l. c.
Called with three others had drinks and food was impressed with the staff and service was fine .Good value food worth a visit !
M. r.
Very nice place good food and service
P. L.
Nice mixed grill although the wait was longer than expected , the pub was clearly quiet.
C. P.
Party of 3, each having a different meal. Food was ok but not great, we did comment to waitress we weren't satisfied by the quality of our food. She did apologise but nothing more. Had better at other hungry horse venues. Won't be in too much of a hurry to eat there again
B. I.
Great food and was quick to come out of the kitchen too.
The surrounding tables were dirty throughout the course of my breakfast which was a shame as the place was dead..
The light fixtures appeared to be hanging on for dear life, one looked like it was hanging from a single throw cable and the woodwork around it was crumbling, the other had signs of the wooden panel pulling away from the ceiling.
The lights had left over party balloons and party poppers inside, not just a few but quite a lot showing they hadn't been cleaned in a while.
Customer services was great however and really did turn the whole thing round for me, despite the flaws I would visit again.
L. B.
Great place clean plenty for kids to do. Food was ok apart from the steak being like leather, but not hot & chicken over cooked! The onions & pepper were boiled not fried an cold but the pud was delicious 🤔
P. M.
Last few times I've been here its been spot on. Nice friendly staff and decent pubs grub at an affordable price for families. Took kids down other day and they was throwing a free party to celebrate their 25th birthday. Free play and food for the kids. Nice touch 👍
M. B.
Great place for families with young children. There's an outdoor play area in a safe enclosed sunny area where parents can eat and drink. There's an indoor soft play zone for winter or rainy days. The food is OK and served quickly.
L. B.
Didn't actually go in the restaurant itself as met friends in the Wacky warehouse part. Four kids aged 3-9 had a super time and we all managed to have food and drinks there. Food was excellent and a good price with loads of choice even for our vegetarian friend and my fussy kids. Would and will happily meet up there again.
H. B.
Went for breakfast. Wasn't open at 9am as advertised. Sat outside in the cold. Had to knock on the window till cleaner saw us. Manager opened up. Breakfast wasnt very good. Tomatoes not cooked properly and breakfast just warm. But all the time we were there they were still cleaning. So had to put up with hoovering and music that was abit to loud. We come here quite often and meals are usually good. First breakfast and won't have it again. Staff are lovely and helpful.
l. c.
I visited the phantom winger as I was staying at the ibis hotel next door... the manager Lee showed me to a table and explained how to order.
My visit was great the next time I'm in Preston ill be visiting again
M. A.
Arrived without making s booking the very polite staff soon had us sat and enjoying our dinner. The place was spotless and adhering to the covid 19 rules like we've not seen as yet overall a very enjoyable experience.
Thanks to all.
R. P.
Missed a piece of bacon and hash brown,
Cold coffee,
M. D.
Fantastic place for families. Children get there own TV for cartoons. Plenty of space, clean and friendly. Decorated tastefully for Christmas atm with a massive tree on the centre bar lounge. There are cosy dining spaces and larger group spaces. I'll definitely return to eat and have a drink.
k. m.
This was our second year dining for Christmas day... i must say that the service, food and staff where down in my opinion to last year.
Last year we could not fault either of these as it was faultless, hence the reason we booked again for this year.
The meet and greet member of staff appeared scruffy and no effort made to feel festive at all.
The food was in ration portions, also you could tell it was frozen foods.... the deserts where small enough to fill an small child.. and the pork belly pork starter had 4 small pieces of errmm meat!
The waiting on staff forgot our drinks order twice and the request for our main course had to be made twice.
Completely two different dining experiences at the same price per head..........
M. G.
Nice place with a good atmosphere was staying in the hotel next door. So popped in for a couple of pints and my dinner. Food i would describe as typical pub grub done well. Was very reseaonable and portions were huge.
M. C.
Just enjoyed an excellent Steak and some Malbec with a work colleague. It was very good with friendly and swift service, hot food well presented and at a very reasonable price. Would be 9/10 if the ratings scale was wider.
J. K.
Everything was in place to make you feel safe and staff were friendly and efficient and we all enjoyed are meals hungry horse venues give good value for money I'm sure will be back again to try something different
K.
Great food, good portions and well presented. Looked after by Meghan who couldn't do enough for us.
B. S.
Typical pub + something for the kids with quick relatively cheap bar food. Some but not all of my chicken was rubbery, over cooked, but at least it wasn't under cooked. Onion rings were soggy, how can something battered & deep fried be soggy?
K. W.
Good food, good covid precautions. Ordering could be less complicated. Was told app only but other people were ordering and paying by card, which is much simpler when just re ordering coffee.
C.
Good value, been a number of times. Just wish they would warm the plates up before serving to keep the food hot. I have mentioned this several times. Would then be a five star from me.
j. c.
Nice main but went to order sweet at 10.20 and told they'd stopped serving.
Not sure that's appropriate. Surely if you have had a main meal you should be able to have a pudding.
Disappointed
J. B.
Well, I can tell you about the Wacky Warehouse, which is in the same building.
Nice place to spend a few hours with your kids. Huge climbing and sliding equipment, good staff. One thing says it all: they're always busy.
J. S.
Food is OK. Service isn't so good tables weren't cleared quickly and we have left a few times without dessert because they took so long to bring them out. This is when it's quite quiet as well. They tend to not bring extra paid for sides out as well and when we asked for them they weren't brought out.
J. H.
Ultimately, it's a 3 star establishment, long waits, (even for a pint) and even longer for food, they "ran out of steak: so I had to order an alternative and it was just so mediocre, disappointed
W. Q.
Food was to a good standard. Id say the overall environment was quite noisy and i did ask for a table somewhere quite due to my disability and i feel this wasnt taken serious when it is. It takes some people with disabilities a lot of effort to go out and eat in public and would be nice if in future notes re actually read when booking so i can eat and actually enjoy the whole experience. However i was an hour later than originally booked so could be my own fault. But i did see many emptt tables just didnt have thr nerve to ask for a different one. So overall a 7 out of 10 . Would also say get a taxi freephone or a payphone for customers that have travelled a long way to eat there for if they're phone have died.
k.
A big restaurant area but can be very busy because of it. Well catered and very good facilities. A large bar means accessibility for ordering is easier.
A fun area is connected to the main restaurant which is spacious in comparison to some.
P. D.
Love the place has everything. Food, drink, kids play area and sports on tv's. The food was really good and they had a very affordable family deal that was very good. The menu has something for all the family and you carnt go wrong I'd you just want some pub food.
K. S.
Large Hungry Horse pub/restaurant. Good range of foods on menu but just two draught beer options - although plenty of lagers. Good wholesome breakfasts and pretty tasty coffee.
D. R.
Fantastic place for some great and cheap food. Excellent deals on throughout the week meaning no trip should be exactly the same you will always have a chance to try something new.
S. C.
Cheap and cheerful. If you are expecting silver service at this price you are a bit dim. If you are looking for cheap food and so so priced beer and not too bothered about sitting in something sticky then fill your boots!!
L. R.
Brilliant food, well cooked and tasted amazing . Staff welcoming and friendly.
A. K.
Decent priced food, wife received the wrong meal but was soon rectified very quickly
Check with the staff before you pay for parking as you can get it free if you scan something in the pub
S. U.
Great friendly pub, food is brilliant and nothing is too much, staff very helpful will be back.
J. B.
Great food for the price and plenty of choice.
There a booths that have a small tv installed with kids programmes on to keep them distracted which is a nice touch.
Also has a play area that will tire them out for bedtime.
J. C.
Great value, two meals for £8.99, lovely fried fish, quick friendly service. Lovely curry. Can't go wrong I'd say.
V. W.
Great staff and great food! My Fish and chips was superb
G. C.
Good food, friendly staff, great offers
D. M.
Food was good it would of been nice to have had buns on all burgers but they ran out of them
J. H.
Lovely servers but food was rubbish! Had the risotto and it was just very bland with a taste of hot water and onions! Added chicken on the top for an extra £2. Chicken was very flavourful just a shame about the actual risotto!
K. H.
Fantastic. My grandson who turned 4 in September had never been until 2 weeks ago . He enjoyed it so much he asked if we could go again today. The staff were amazing and the security was good. Thank you once again.
S. G.
Really nice place and really nice food
P. W.
Went to the Phantom winger for my birthday the food was amazing, staff were very friendly, we will definitely have a return visit
D.
Used to go a lot and never had a problem, ended up paying a visit again last month and the food was the same standard I had experienced before staff were helpful but didn't bother us while eating. So a good experience.
L. W.
we popped in our our way home from visiting the family in scotland we'd been stuck in traffic for hours so were pretty down hearted on entering, but they were so friendly especially the young man behind the bar, Dave. the food was good and the kids loved the wacky, we'll make it our regular stop on future trips!!
F. R.
Very large gastropub beside the motorway. Ideal for families - has tv monitors showing children's tv at the end of many tables. Not so great if you want a quiet drink.
Good selection of food and drink - and reasonably priced too.
Staff are on the ball, clearing and wiping tables as soon as they are vacated.
Good facilities for disabled customers.
Very convenient for residents of Ibis hotel next door.
Good selection of photos remembering the great Sir Tom Finney's finest moments, which lead to him being The Phantom Winger that the pub is named after.
A. H.
I do really like the burgers here - the staff is helpful and there is usually room for our group large or small - it's also conveniently located just off the M6 which is nice. Hever avoid getting caught here during business rush hours as Garstang road slows to a standstill car park and you will be trapped.
T. D.
Lovely food friendly staff, nice decor plenty of seating options, great value, very cheap with daily offers you cant go wrong with a 12oz steak on a sizzling skillet with chips and salad for £6.00 on a Tuesday!
D. A.
Good food and pleasant service !
S. M.
Food was average, play area was ok, 40 min wait for food (no starters) was annoying, table wasn't clean, had to get condiments from another table. Overall not amazing but not terrible
M. K.
Really nice food,
I tried fish & chips which was lovely.😋
P. V.
It's great for pub type food. Can get busy. Staff always helpful, friendly and polite. A great place to take kids of all ages.
D. H.
We had two of the big plate specials and couldn't eat all of it. The staff boxed up our deserts to take home. Brilliant food, excellent service and in comfort.
J. S.
Typical pub chain serving food. We waited ages to be shown to table, even though we had a reservation. Service of food was also very slow - this may have been due to being very busy in approach to Christmas but they should have extra staff to cope. Food was okay - usual pub type food.
S.
Good for a Saturday Sunday afternoon with the kids they get to play adults get to drink. Got the 4 meals for 16 quid. It was quite nice.
C. B.
Had a really nice lunch with my dad. I couldn't eat all my hand battered fish, chips and garden peas, but it was really nice, fresh and tasty.
T. B.
Food was excellent as always but the service was a bit slow because of staff shortages apart from that it was good
S. B.
Since it has changed hands to hungry horse the food is much better. Staff as always friendly and helpful. For what you pay this place more than meets requirements. Well done !!
Z. W.
Very nice, play area was fantastic, its actualy a sizeable play area, my 18 month old loved it. Staff were very nice and attentive, food is what you expect for price (very nice though) would not hesitate to go again 👍
J. S.
Very clean, staff always polite. Food is lovely, well looked after place. Wacky warehouse is great for the kids to burn some energy.
C. M.
Excellent food and brilliant service
J. T.
The staff were attentive and friendly. They were amenable to the menu changes we required and we're all around fantastic. Probably the best service we have had at a hungry horse ever!
F. A.
Went to wacky warehouse with 2 kids. They loved it. We had a nice coffee but you can get drinks from the bar. Food available too
B. M.
Called in with friends to let the kids burn off some energy in the play area, nice and safe, equipment in good condition and prices are reasonable, paid parking but can be claimed back on bar spend.
J. P.
Food rather disappointing as it wasn't as hot as it should have been. We haven't been for quite a while because that happened before. No change.
B. J.
Amazing play area for the kids. Friendly staff, great food, kids love it.
F. N.
Was very busy and staff overwhelmed. Slow service. Just two taking orders, Manning bar so queue was long. Forty minute wait when promised half an hour. Food lovely when it arrived
G. G.
Sirloin cooked perfect chips fine side brilliant. Only complaint they had run out of 20 oz megasaurus steak. Lovely family eatery
b. r.
Received wrong meal offered to change it but wife was already eating hers so had to stick with it. Also had to queue for ten mins to get second drink not enough staff behind bar for amount of customers. Not be back again for a while. Disappointed.
d. b.
2 of us had 2 courses for £4.49 1 had jumbo fish. All excellent. Portions really big and brownie was delicious. Staff s Stag
A. M.
Food is good for price. Tv on table for entertaining children as they wait for food. Play Area but there is an extra charge. Discount if eating would be good
M. W.
amazing service great food
A. Q.
Food is excellent with a wide choice to chose from too , always piping hot , and staff always very helpful , good value for money , love coming here , that's why I rate this place 5 stars .
M. F.
Never had a bad experience their and iv been their a lot. The only down side they need to get the bar more organised no one should have to queue for a drink.tills for drinks and separate ones for food and drink
C. M.
Food good , hot on hot plates and plenty of choice . Nice atmosphere and helpful staff. Although busy never have too long to wait for meals to arrive.
m. s.
Monthly play pass works out good value. Always busy in the pub so must be popular. Family meal deals are great too
C. p.
Great food (steaks are a bit poor quality) play area is great but overpriced on drinks ECT. Service is ok when busy. Loads of parking spaces though and great seating plan.
W. D.
Food was good..massive portions.... All came out together.. (was a big party of 20+)
Only downside was had to queue for the bar everytime.. Defo go again..
S. C.
Two meals for ten pounds. Can't go wedding with that. Can be bit show when ordering hit and cold drinks at the bar. Really helpful staff.
A. I.
Helpful staff. Food well presented and well cooked. Decent range of beverages. Good value for money. Very busy at peak times. Empty in later evening.
C. S.
Great family eatery there is a wacky warehouse here but there is a free outdoor play area. Reasonably priced food and a lot of options, something to suit everyone easy to get on and off motorway and an Ibis next door
a. t. (.
I wanted to like this place more then we did. Food is so so and potions are not great. I guess it's OK for families if u want something cheap and cheerful but other places are much better quality
L. W.
2 for 1 type of restaurant, with a wacky for the kids, it's not bad but then your hardly going for a great meal at a 2 for 1, just somewhere to get some hot food and entertain the kids for an hour on a rainy day.
D. L.
The place feels clean and staff are friendly.
Just the mash can use some improvements.
M. H.
Not the worst good if you have kids food not up to scratch with competition around
H. R. N.
nice pub, the staff were friendly. did not find any pool table there.
C. M.
Pleasant staff and good service. Fixed menu but decent range of choice. Much better food than hotel next door!
P. Y.
Food typical chain food. Rather disappointed in the dirty fries. A small bowl of cheesey chips with some bacon.
L. C.
Had the halloumi sandwich, it's a challenge to finish, but thoroughly enjoyed it. I try to avoid times where its packed with children as it can be quite noisy.
C. T.
Good value food, consistent good service. This is a family friendly pub. Only downside is the limited choice and availablity of the hand pump ales.
K. T.
Enjoyed our meal
C. S.
Food was good with a good selection. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere.
A. F.
Amazing food and excellent customer service. Can definitely recommend
B. S.
Nice place to eat, lovely pub grub. Can be busy sometimes but don't let that put you off. Can recommend the fish and chips!!
e. M.
The food is great but its in the wrong location unless u got a car or pay a taxi your buggered. Stagecoach or preston bus should put a bus on that goes somewhat clise so more people can get to here that dont have use of a car. Otherwise would be perfect. Maybe thats an idea for management??
E. “. N.
Place is great, food is good and staff are nice.It does need a bit of a tidy up but not bad at all! Also a great place to hold the Preston Car Meet once a month
H. D.
Service wasn't great but everything else was really good, the staff were friendly, the atmosphere was nice and the amount of options on the menu was impressive.
A. K.
Good selection of food in the updated menu. Outdoor and indoor (Paid) child play areas. Food arrives quickly and was good quality. Soft drinks overpriced.
B. E.
Had a really lovely time here, Ross the manager was really helpful with any queries we had. Will come again
R. W.
Nice food with friendly staff a good place to come with your family
S. S.
Great value for money. Easy to order via the downloadable app. Discount for using it. Drinks & food all timely delived to table with a smile.
B. C.
Reasonably priced family menu. Good selection on menu. No table service, but the staff are friendly and helpful.
