Reviews of The Grey Friar - JD Wetherspoon
J. B.
Not so good this time. It's beginning to look a bit worn & tired inside now and there were a few things not quite right I thought.
No condiments other than salt, pepper, brown sauce. Surely a trip to ALDI over the road could have sorted that. Staff did apologise though.
I tried 3 sanitisers, all empty. Either fill them or just remove them.
Table number missing so asked diners next to me for theirs which confused server a little. Again, staff did apologise but why not just implement a quick solution to the problem.
I'm not a fussy eater but my burger pates were clearly overcooked and as a result quite dry. I just ate them anyway as I don't like waste.
Rest of food okay, decent value, generally clean and friendly environment and staff pleasant enough. But I can only hope that 'spoons are waiting for the roadworks chaos in Preston to be over and then they will give this once decent pub the makeover it, and it's customers, deserve🤞
J. M.
Prices are cheap enough but I still want some filling in my panini. £4.55 with a cup of tea which would have been ok if the panini had a decent amount of filling. Chips were an additional cost. My wife had the ham and cheese panini which was more substantial.
J. R.
Food good, staff friendly, but tables not cleared away meaning eating and drinking surrounded by previous occupants glasses and food remains. Therefore 1 star removed
P. R.
Another great Wetherspoons pub were you can get good food and drink at very good prices. The staff are always very helpful and friendly, it is no wonder that they are always busy.
Most pubs charge too much and seem surprised that they are empty most of the time.
There is a handy car park just across the road.
E. T.
Came here purely to have a nice relaxing drink after a long day around Preston & enjoyed the Real Ales on tap. I've been to this Wetherspoon's before & is by far, better than the other one in Preston.
S. M.
The overall cleanliness was sadly unsatisfactory, dirty tables when we arrived, the toilets had dirty seats that need to be replaced. The carpets are faded and damaged in places and need replacing. However I cannot fault the service of the staff: very friendly and professional, the gentleman whom I asked to clean our table did so with a smile. If Wetherspoons would consider giving this establishment a refresh, it would instantly become more welcoming to customers and provide a place for the staff to take great pride in working.
K. L. (.
Honestly I don't normally give negative reviews. The food was fine but had to wait for over 25 minutes longer for two out of the five meals. The menus were stuck together and to the table. Maybe the booths don't get cleaned as well as the rest of the flat tables.
S. C.
Staff were friendly enough, the whole place could have done with a clean, our table was filthy and we had to ask a member of staff to come and give it a wipe. Food and drink was nice enough. No major complaints, an alright place to grab some decent-ish food.
A. A.
Although not much large, it is good sitting. It packs all the key ingredients in-good selection. Excellent crisps great atmosphere. Private car park.
N. L.
Spacious..Good selection of beers and wines..Good food options.. Good prices..Overall a good place to wine & dine.👍🏼
A. I. S.
Always has seats avaliable and is always very cheap. There are a vast range of drinks to choose from and the food is what you'd expect from a pub.
Service can be hit and miss but the quality of food and drink mostly makes up for it.
B. F.
Horrible attitude of one particular bar member. Ordered a small breakfast with a coffee, then ordered a smashed avocado muffin which comes with tea or coffee. She only gave me one cup, asked for the other cup and she said you didn’t ask for another drink, I told her that the smashed avocado cones with tea or coffee, she said, you need to ask for it, in a snotty voice. I think she classes herself as the assistant manager, well Jodie you need to go for customer service training cos your attitude stinks.
What happened to the customer always right. She stood and argued with me about it. I said I should have to ask as it comes with it, her reply was well I don’t know what drink you want, you may have wanted something else. You are surely in the wrong job love
D. C.
Always good. Cheap and cheerful. Good selection of beers, wines and spirits. Good for food without paying a fortune. Offers always available.
P. K.
Just across town centre. Whenever you're around town and feel like a pint it's a place to go. Moreover, the drinks are nice and cheap.
G. L.
A great Wetherspoons pub. Open areas, cosy booths and raised seating areas. Pleasant and hard working staff. A splendid place for wonderful draught beers.
K. S.
Great day staff nice food cheap and good beer reasonable price all in all good day even though the pub was full of Burnley fans and we from Blackburn no trouble even chatted to us good time x
D. S.
A great place to eat. A fine choice of meals at decent prices. A great place for family meals or a place to share a great date .
K. H.
Had breakfast couple of times here and it was fab lovely staff very clean unlited brews
J. O.
Nice & clean . Enjoyed a couple of small plates 3 for about £12 and couple of beers, cheap & cheerful.
s. m.
One day I'll have my breakfast served on a hot plate and all items on the plate will be of a similar temperature.
S.
Was very impressed with the food and the value of it. Busy pub but it felt friendly and had a good atmosphere. Staff were friendly and attentive. The only downside was that we had to clear our own table. Apart from that a positive visit to The Grey Friar in Preston.
R. H.
Honestly, looking on from the outside we didn't expect too much, but we were proved wrong! Really impressed with the food and service from the Grey Friar. Great value, friendly staff, tasty meals.
G. C.
Typical Wetherspoon pub and eatery. Food from standard Wetherspoon menu but good choices including gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and other allergies. Prices, including beers and wines, are inexpensive. We had 2 mains and a bottle of red wine for £20. This is a big place with lots of booths, tables and space. Friendly staff although clear away service is a bit slow. Would visit again if in the centre of Preston.
G. W.
An unappealing exterior here belies a nicely enough decorated interior - but the real beauty of Spoons is a wide selection of quality cask ales which are all fresh because of high volume sales resulting from outstandingly good value prices
The staff here were pleasant and competent- so it all makes for a good pub. Well done.
M. H.
Cheap as chips where can you get two meals with drinks for under £16. A panini with chips and a pint, southern fried chicken and chips with a medium glass of wine which was as tasty as the price.
m. t.
Good breakfast, disappointed there was no hash potato and bacon/ onion as we had before. Empty pop bottle under table and peas on floor assume from night before. Don’t people clean like they used to.
S. M.
Good staff, beer and food. What more do you want.
Yes it gets busy, but it is a town centre pub.
R. S.
This is an excellent place to have some good food and drinks with a mesmerising sunset view. Just beside waters, it is also very close to the pleasure beach. The food was delicious and the staffs were friendly. It was easy to order the food using an app and the price was reasonable considering the beautiful view it offered. This place is absolutely recommended.
N. S.
It's just another wetherspoon! The staffs are friendly and the place is nice! With plenty of seats. That's the the reason for my 4 stars review.
M.
Massive roast portion! Got the large 2 for 1 deal on a Monday so it worked out as £4.50 each. Nice meal, though I'm guessing they didn't include beef so it was cheaper (there was only pork and turkey). Save yourself some time on a Sunday and just go here
D. T.
Ordered a steak, when it came onion rings were missing betime they came the steak was going cold. Not up to the normal Wetherspoons standards.
T. C.
We used it every day while we were there on holiday. Food excellent and very cheap drinks.
t. c.
Ordered a large breakfast and was brought to my table within 10 min , all good apart from 1 fried egg which was hard . Other than that no complaints.
R. (.
I'm a cider drinker that hates Stowford Press so this is nothing against this Wetherspoons in particular, they've just all changed therefore I'll only visit for food and get my cider everywhere else 😊
A. C. (.
Large Wetherspoons in Preston. Usual format, very competitive prices for both foot and drinks. Quick service, food brought to your table after you order and pay at the bar. Quality of food was very good.
S. S.
Called in for lunch. not bizzy as it was just after the lunch breaks. got a bit relaxed on wiping tables down, seems to be the same in all weatherspoons that we have been in but when we asked they did, clean and tidy staff are good not a big wait for the food to arrive on the table, had fish and chips which was good and a coke
J. D. V.
Lovely food. Didn't wait long to be served. Just wasn't enough staff to clean tables . Otherwise they would have got 5 stars
M. W.
Town centre pub but as always great value for money. Meal deals with a drink staff very friendly and helpful. Very spacious inside.
L. A.
Food was out in minutes ,which tells me it's been cooked earlier, warmed up and then out on my table.. it was poor , cheep prices, cheep food, you get what you pay for.
J. W.
Excellent pub plenty of space, light and airy. Good service reasonable prices and the meal I had was perfect
R. A.
A quiet afternoon. Beer choice wasn't great. Reintroduced Curry deal Not great, curry small, birds nest rice inappropriate.
P. H.
Fantastic Student drinking spot
Everything you could expect from a spoons, cheap drinks, cheap eats and a lively atmosphere.
We had a great night.
Disabled access was easy and the staff super friendly. Bought every drink to the table for us
Pictured the leaning tower of drinkza
A. D.
A good spoons with excellent selection of ales. Leffe on tap and beer from Glamorgan brewery just down the road from where I live
N. W.
Typical Wetherspoons pub...Nice and cheap... Situated just on the edge of Preston town centre, a great place to start any pub crawl !!
M. I.
Standard spoons cheap ale and cheap atmosphere. £1 a pint with CAMRA , didn't expect any more
D. B.
Went for a full breakfast about 9:30 in the morning Saturday morning breakfast ok but a bit cold but it was worth the money if I go again I will tell them if the breakfast is cold again
E. M.
Best deals for food and drinks... Comparatively cheaper than other pubs.. Good ambience
R. B.
Prices are absolutely bang on, food really nice but the place is outdated. Needs some serious TLC. Some staff lovely and friendly but some of them was very grumpy x Rae x
V. O.
BREAKFAST EXPERIENCE
I had Traditional Breakfast for only £3.30 (see photo)!
You can order and pay through wetherspoons app if you want to so you don't have to talk at all.
Food arrived fast, in about 5mins (not many people, and I love quiet breakfast)
Free Wi-Fi.
Contactless cards are accepted.
Instagram has lots of photos from this place. You can also see their menu and price through the app to stay in budget!
G. J.
Great place..friendly and helpful staff...food was good asweĺl.
H.
Cheep price great place for food and families.
R. J.
Good Wetherspoon pub . Was a little disappointed with the time it took to clear empty glasses and crockery from the meal !
D. T.
Very reasonable food was good. Nice staff. All we needed Thankyou
K. S.
Lovely, friendly staff amd food but it's predominantly an older man drinking pub during the day which is when I usually visit.
G. R.
Light & comfortable, not to dark & dingy (as some JD W establishments can be). Good quick food service. Polite & helpful staff. Although, as seems to be a recurring habit through other JD W's lately, had to return to bar to ask for side-orders, for our table.
d. f.
Decent quality lager, beers, decent prices. Plenty of seats, bright as plenty of windows, good service. Food popular.
A. W.
We had a good time with very nice staff we had snacks food which was good
R. H.
Great food and service.
L. W.
Great place..amazing prices
.friendly staff xx
R. K.
Prices cheap, met up with my friends mandy and cath, miserable weather. Food not brilliant to be fair but better than getting wet. Staff behind bar were lovely.
P. C.
£2.10 a pint for guest ales. Several good ones on last visit & not too busy at beginning of week.
D. D.
Had a Chicken Korma and a German lager. Friendly service, good price.
L. S.
The manager was good but no one told us that our drinks were already pulled when we ordered food or bothered to take to the table as table number was given, but manager pulled us new pints the steak was really nice tonight it was abit bloody in places but it wasn't full of nerves this time. It took awhile 4 our plates to be taken away after eating 5+ For the manager tho
R. P.
Just like most others really nice atmosphere.
G. S.
Best Spoons I've been in for a long time, for a Beer Ticker two new cask beers
C. P.
Very large pub, unfortunately I saw many people not wearing masks. Difficult for the staff to control particularly when a group of three 30 something men all told staff they were exempt. We all know that's not the case but what are staff supposed to do? Very good table service here.
H. J.
Large Pub, with some tiered seating.
Can get noisy at busy times though.
I found both the food and speed of service, to be good. Even when ordering from my phone at a fairly busy time.
S. C.
Nice pub. Friendly staff
G. A.
Ordered a tikka masala, really nice.
K. D.
Very good service and excellent prices
J. H.
The pub and staff are mostly very good. Especially the boy with the mohican hair cut. He is exceptional.
We got there about 5pm it was a lovely evening so we sat outside. After ordering our drinks we were told we would have to go inside as they were going to put the tables that were outside away. There was a group of people sat in the smoking area, they were enjoying a chat and a drink in the sunshine. They were also moved to remove the tables. What reason was there to move us all so early? We are in our 70s so it was much safer to sit outside. A lovely evening spoilt by this unnecessary removing of the outside tables.
B.
Had breakfast here a few weeks ago. Nice food. Shame this spoons doesn't often seem to have blackcurrant cordial when I visit.
A. J.
Used to be our go to spot for breakfasts and a quick bite for eat when we couldn't get a space elsewhere. Unfortunately the owner means that we no longer want to spend money with the company. So we'll be passing on spending money here in future.
D. S.
Excellent new menu n improved portions, some staff are miserable.
L. E.
A favourite Wetherspoon pub of mine. Slight hiccup with my order but then 99 out of a 100 have chips and salad with a burger. Nobody I know has heard of a plain burger except Sticky Fingers in London.
S. D. b.
Whoever’s working tonight - give them a pay rise. Working well hard and delivering good standards
E. W.
Your average weatherspoons ( great on match days )
S. R. T.
Good selection of ales, lagers and wine, food fine for what you pay, cannot complain.
G.
The food has declined in both choice and quality. It manly burgers and pizza and snacks now. I think it was a mistake to get rid of food themed nights. And I'm getting fed up of the chairman using the business to publicise his political views.
L. D.
Great that they stuck to the no mask no entry policy but as one of my family forgot their mask they almost lost custom as they have none available on the door, service itself felt cold, no warm welcome here. The food was average for the establishment. Very average borderline negative experience overall.
J. N.
Had a decent breakfast and a few drinks. Met Tim Martin. It was a good day.
N. H.
Modern Wetherspoons on the edge of the city. The staff are always
helpful and friendly every time we have visited. The beer choice could have
been better but we think that was due to availability during the pandemic.
V. R.
Can't beat wetherspoons for a nice full English breakfast. Always nice and fresh. And drinks refillable at no extra cost. A nice atmosphere, very relaxing. 👍
A. T.
Good place for food and drinks
And opens 8 am
T. B.
I'm not always a big fan of Wetherspoons, but this one is very nice and very large.
I had a nice meal and the service was very good.
A. G.
Very good. Quick service, plenty of table spaces and a large pub. Typical Wetherspoon so good food and cheap prices. I liked this pub.
I. G.
Great for coffee refill and some food, last time I ate there my food was cold and still frozen, obviously the microwave wasn't working properly, did complain ,shrug of the shoulders off barman and told to go somewhere else,so I did. Good for coffee.
L. G.
Fantastic team running around.
I orderdere 1 pint of lagar was ready hlaf minutes in prfessional way 😜 full
The nice tee is arriving less then 5 minutes 🧐😲
And was very nice and delicious, I can’t find proper here 😃😜
Even, I tried 😋 the pub is No 1
Highly recommend by me 😋😎😜🍻
p. W.
Great fun here meet up for all people fun pub🥳🥳
S. H.
Good food and enjoyed catching up with friends. Lots of drinks out of stock when trying to order which was disappointing.
T. D.
Not enough staff bless them ..table's need cleaning but nice place
A. B.
Big wetherspoons. Bit of a wait for food and drink. Had a few disappointing meals there but overall food is ok. Nice place to get a drink w friends
s. b.
Plenty of staff on. Used the app which worked really well and drinks and food arrived quickly each time. Staff friendly and the toilets were clean and tidy.
k. w.
Mask rules aren't applied very consistently, but the pub itself is enormous and open plan so finding a covid safe spot is possible. Be warned this pub is next to a busy road, so no nice window views!
G. T.
Good pub, great prices! Its a spoons so you know what to expect from it. Good location and plenty of staff COVID safe and dribks were delivered to our table relatively quickly.
All in all, decent pub deffo worth a try
P. W.
Nice atmosphere. Couldn't work the app to order food and couldn't amend the order. Took a long time to get to order. Food was acceptable but very little peas with steak pudding.
c. j.
Witherspoons is what it is, cheap but good beer, great range and ales and beers and service was good.
S. M.
Missed breakfast menu by 5 mins, which also means no luke warm baked beans!
K. T. N.
Friendly, professional staff, well situated, and plenty of seating, but a little crowded and lacking in tables for larger parties.
K. K.
Nice and good food. Good meal sizes and a nice variety of foods available. The only down side is pretty much the same with every pub/restaurant; the waiting times. If it's an off peak day, you're looking at 30 min top, peak day, maybe an hour up
J. R.
From a couple of weeks ago Haggis Neeps & Tatties for £4-99 which was cheap
v. s.
Went for a meal with hub, good service, the food and drink was really taste, place was busy bad there was no delaying on service. I will go back again.
R. R.
Spoons, cheap ale, great staff
K. S.
Service was quick, lovely big breakfast with fresh tomatoes and mushrooms, bacon egg, beans, sausages and 3 crispy hash browns 2 slices of toast & individual packs of purple butter. Will definitely be calling in again for food. 2cups of cappuccino eack. For just over £12 for the two of us was brilliant.
B. M.
Nice friendly place for food and drink , bit under staffed at moment .
J. W.
I don't eat here anymore. Been ill too many times after to be a coincidence. Other weatherspoons seem to be ok but this is a special case.
Cheap beer though
L. G.
We love the bacon on toast and a cup of coffee lovely ,and the staff are great to .
A. H.
It's Wetherspoons you know what you're going to get. Food and drink for a reasonable price. We ordered using the app, food came in good time and we all enjoyed it. Saturday afternoon wasn't massively busy, but we had to ask to get our table wiped after we'd ordered. Much nicer to sit in the pub than other fat food places that I could mention.
P. C.
Had a dark beer from Devon, very enjoyable. Service was OK & bar staff friendly. Plenty of room on this quiet Tuesday.
D. E.
This used to be my regular haunt
But will not be going in again as they have stopped selling fosters ( my one and only drink ) other than that nice please to meet up and have chat
g. b.
Probably the best food I've ever had in one of these pubs. Great friendly staff too.
J. T.
I turned up and it was pretty quiet. It was just about to rain so I sat on a table with a brolly. I used the app to order and pay and sure enough it was pretty quick. It was cold and raining but it can't be helped so not a bad pub
K. B.
Excellent pub with food served till late. The bar people are excellent. A special mention for Bianca who was very polite and courteous and is an asset to the pub.
L.
Me and friends come here all the time. Cheap and cheerful. But the food isn't always up to much! We once ordered an Indian sharing platter and the Somosas were frozen like ice pops! They did reheat them in microwave for us after we complained!! Nice coffee though and free refills!
P. N.
my wife and I visited the grey friar this afternoon she ordered the 3 chicken surprise I had the large mixed grill both meals were excellent. I was served by the manager on duty who was very polite and helpful. keep up the good work guy's.
P. T.
Lovely breakfast, and quite filling. Nice coffee too.
A. F.
Short wait to be served at peak times. Lots of beers lagers and ciders to choose from as well as the usual Wetherspoons food menu. Very reasonable prices and a clean and tidy environment. It may be time for a refit as the decoration and toilets are looking a little tired.
S. R.
Friendly staff. Clean and tidy. Good selection of foods and plenty of seating. Food can be ordered at the bar but using their free App on your mobile makes it so much easier!! Service is usually quick but can be up to 40 minutes at weekend lunch times.
A. S.
I had been queuing, and moved to the next till. Bar man came and told me to queue further round without asking me if I'd already been in the queue. Won't be going back, everyone was complaining
I. R.
It's a 'spoons - bit too open plan but otherwise excellent as ever! Very centrally located and great value. Spoon's now have an app where you can order online for table delivery. Food is par for the course for wetherspoons and good value. Good range of non-alcoholic drinks which are not over priced, and you can get a good range of craft beers, and ciders
S. F.
Never had a bad breakfast or meal at this great pub. By far better atmosphere and the food is just that bit better than its fellow pubs in the same City. Staff are always friendly and polite. I love coming in here for a great breakfast and start of a busy day.
B. V.
Good food and good prices, big selection of all types of ales lagers wines ciders gins and hard liquor
M. K.
We have been in quite a few wetherspoons pubs but this one is the best one so far.The staff were friendly and the pub itself was very clean due to the staff taking away plates and glasses as soon as they were done with and this was within seconds which we have never known before in another other wetherspoons. It was a nice change to sit at a clean table and not have to ask for it to be cleaned.
d. h.
Always good at any Wetherspoons, food selection , plenty of choice, even in restrictive times. My pizza spot on, wife's mixed grill could have been warmer, but it was really busy. Still a good evening out.
J. K. R.
Good cheap beer, friendly staff, clean toilets. Only one criticism queuing at the bar, when there seems to be plenty of staff.
7.
Good ale selection that rotates regularly and the bar staff are very helpful and informative, service took a little longer than I'd have expected but no complaints, food was spot on, presentation was incredible, it was cooked to perfection and everything was very reasonably priced, found out the chef's name who cooked my meal was called George, a true asset to the team!
Y. C.
Decent and great for a cheap English breakfast or cheap beers!
A. D.
Good environment. Okay food
A. W.
Great food , reasonable price
S. A.
Typically Wetherspoons but nice atmosphere. Good place to meet if you want to chat as it's not overly noisy. Nicer to sit up where the large windows are otherwise it can feel a bit closed in....you tend to get served quicker on average than some pubs I could mention....
D. W.
Food is nice, price is excellent and staff are friendly, would go back again
P. G.
Really enjoyed the place, my company made it perfect.
J. M.
I had a chicken pizza it was lovely. Thin base. Also chicken like kfc lovely. Spot on
J. D.
Great meeting place, nice prices
S. D.
A bit dingy, but overall reasonable place. Biggest issue now is that you have to get your own coffee - no problem with that concept at all, except when we went the other day we found that only one machine was an issue, stood there for over 5 minutes waiting to use the machine and this was when the place was quiet! Wetherspoons, save yourself time by all means by asking your customers to get their own coffee... but make sure they don’t have to queue again after already queuing at the bar to order!
G. H.
Nipped in for a small breakfast and we were served quickly by a friendly member of staff. Food was a bit lukewarm but absolutely fine and worth the price. Table 48 had a wobbly top and I thought I may end up wearing my cuppa (No harm done though).
A. H.
Enjoyed food great service friendly staff 😋
J. T.
Always good simple food, plenty of space inside so you dont feel over crowded. Nice selection of cask ales.
n. r.
Always friendly bar staff and very fast service for food. The only exception of this is when Preston North End football club are playing at home. As this is one of the only pub that allws away fans in. Overall good service usually though .
D. O.
Definitely had a nice time
C. B.
Went for a meal with the mother wouldnt recomend the fish it tasted like it was twice fried chips were bag on tho so was the steak drinks were cheap aswell
J. N.
Brilliant service loved it loved the food and drink
L. H.
Had the burger and pint. Great value for money
Chips always brilliant.
G. C.
Busy city centre wetherspoons. Genuinely friendly atmosphere!
L. S.
Once again as with all witherspoon they are always good
K. T.
Nice witherspoon pub, usual fare at usual good prices. Friendly efficient staff. Good selection of ales.
C. N.
Really good value for food and drink. Great atmosphere even without any background music.
A. H.
Bottle of birra moretti was cheaper then draft and tasted better. Bottles of fizz was about £12. It’s a bust place but it never takes long to get served. Same when ordering food which I found ok for pub food. Good meeting place as plenty of room to sit down.
M. W.
One of the better Spoons. You know what you will find which sometimes is what you want.
M. F.
Good prices and good a lagers nice service
c. m.
We had our first family meal. Service, food and drink outstanding. We all felt safe .
W. J.
My old haunt, personally i loved ppl watching from my corner. Cheap beer ,nearly always plenty of seats, never tried the food as im not a fan of pub grub,.now moved away from Preston but when i return i will have a pint in there. 👍
K. O.
Decent beers at very reasonable prices as you now expect at a Wetherspoons house.
Food ok but not special - prices again reasonable.
c.
Very friendly staff couldnt do enough to help us
A. Y.
Good prices, great staff.
K. S.
Out of the to Witherspoons in Preston all though not as nice a building as 12 tellers the standard of keeping tables clean, better and cleaning tables far better at grey friar
r. j.
Everything was perfect here. Huge pub with good range of ales, friendly and efficient service, and HUGE portion of apple pie!
V. A.
It was very nice, food was tasty and includes a drink good value for money
R. P.
Pub not too busy as Saturday afternoon. Enjoyed a cold glass of cider at a very good price.
M. J.
Great meeting place to start your night out in the centre. Drinks are well priced and there is a lot of choice. Food is typical weatherspoons so is ok. Does get busy though
D.
Delightful pub, as one might expect from a Wetherspoons and definitely more cozy than the other local branch, Twelve Tellers. As a wetherspoons I think it might be as good as it gets and only reason its not 5 stars is a lack of a wow factor and that a few furnishings could do with a bit of work. You can in the booths lift the seat to the space below which might be handy for dropped items but a bit too easy so it might move when sitting and shifting weight forward or getting closer to the table.
A. B.
Great range of beers and spirits at unbeatable prices. The only place I know that gives you free refills on coffee. P.S. The food's not bad either.
M. F.
Cheap beer & food, good place to go for a cheap night out
J. S.
Food was good but the general decor of the place was tired and it felt grubby. Dessert menu is not as extensive nowadays and a little disappointing.
R. D.
Wetherspoons in Preston.
I think this was the one that becomes a nightclub after a certain time.
Thai Princess on the gaming machines though. Can’t fault that.
H. H.
Standard spoons, no complaints
G. J. W.
Decent atmosphere, well appointed bar and food menu. Typical Weatherspoons. In need of a refurbish as it's exactly the same decor and furniture as when I was a student over a decade ago
G. P.
I took a party of ten including three grandkids, it's the second time we done it. The foods reasonable, and decent value, they have a kids menu, which is convenient, and the drinks are competitively priced, we only have one complaint, we ordered a round of eleven drinks, and when the server who was bringing them to our table tripped and we got most of the drinks over us, they replaced the order but we were left sitting in a very damp atmosphere, it sort of annoyed us, especially when, in mitigation, we were told it was only the guys second day. So when the kids left we got a bit more tipsy than usual. However in saying that we would go back as we like Wetherspoons.
A. C.
Nice after-work spot for a drink to chill out at, busy but lots of space so not an issue. Good selection of cask beer, good selection of bottled drinks and food is "standard" Wetherspoon's, which is always exactly as expected and never a let down. Price is cheap, staff are quick and efficient, the best of the "fast food" pubs and this is a really good one out of Wetherspoon's stable.
P. R.
Lovely pub, central to Preston, good food reasonable prices
J. S.
Quick and efficient service, Good food
c. u.
Massive fan of spoons anyway but really like this one. Car park around the corner if needed which is pay and display.
L. R.
Good atmosphere, the price of a bottle of wine was amazing, definitely go again.
J. H.
Nice atmosphere. Can always sit & chat. Good choice of drinks too.
P. W.
Friendly staff & fast service. Like many we use this pub to meet up with friends at the beginning of a night out.
G. S.
First time I've been for a while and although I remember the food as being very reasonable I'm afraid I was a little disappointed on this occasion. Chips were lukewarm and overcooked, fish was more batter than flesh and peas slightly dry. I don't consider the fact that it was busy to be an excuse!
K. R.
We come to Preston most Saturdays and always have dinner at this place, a really nice room with two floor levels. Very busy today with some new young faces behind the bar doing their best but tending to serve whoever's stood in front of them.Very frustrating. Sure that they will improve with guidance and experience.
H. U.
Food good beer good service not as plesent as the other one
T. N.
Big pub no atmosphere
S. B.
Not overfond of the food, but enjoy going in for a coffee..Nice and warm and relaxing..
J.
Typical Wetherspoons. Decent food and drink at good prices, quick service. Thing that lets this place down is the amount of alkies who drink in it. Wouldn't recommended it for families having a meal due to the loud and offensive language in use. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you then its ok but I would avoid if easily offended
a. s.
Great busy pub good food and service
R. L.
This is a great place to meet friends and have a great time nice price for drink 1 of the best in preston
m. h. &. g.
Called in with my husband and children when travelling home after the Christmas period, unlimited re-fills on tea and coffee was brilliant also food was fantastic must have been my fussiest child ate all her dinner.
D. W.
Went for breakfast was quite nice 😋
R. G.
Our son lives in Preston so we almost always end up in here at some point! Food is what it is, don't expect gourmet delights, it's cheap food and cheap beer. It's always quite busy but the food is usually pretty quick out of the kitchen. Where else can you get a curry with a beer and all the trimmings, two large mixed grills and beers for under £30?
H. C.
Great pub, good food and cheap drinks!
M. P.
Second of two Wetherspoons visited today. All good but there is better
G. G.
Good food and drink at great prices.
J. “. D. N.
Great selection of craft beers and cheap as chips!
S. H.
Lovely atmosphere.
Food was delicious, and cider was cold.
Bit busy, but a lot of students crowded in for end of exams drinks.
M. M.
The place is fine ..food up to Wetherspoons good standard BUT why do the older generation is this bar insist on pushing in the queue. I have been in many a Wetherspoons but only in this one are the elderly clientele so rude.
J. V.
One of the most consistent Wethers I've been to. Everyone's got their own opinion of them, personally, I love 'em. Service is always fast, staff are always friendly. Never had a problem here :)
f. w.
Great service plenty of good food
P. C.
As Wetherspoons pubs go, there's nothing wrong with this one. Usual food, not outstanding but perfectly acceptable for the price. Generally a decent atmosphere.
R. N.
Very good but a longer wait for food & drink than at other Wetherspoons I have visited.
J. E.
Friendly environment really good food and is very affordable.
A. p.
Didn't enjoy my dish at all.
A. O.
Used the app to order food
Very easy to use.
Had beer and a burger option for was with us within 5 Min of ordering at the table
Best ordering system I've ever seen for a food restarant/pub
👍👍👍👍👍
d. r.
Ordered a desert as "for later" and when j finished my main course I asked if I can have it, I waited for over 30 minutes and had to go to the main bar area to ask again for it
R. B.
In need of a dep clean and a scrub up..
Staff fast and efficient as always
D. B.
Good food real ale
A. C.
Food was mediocre but plenty of it. Nice place to visit although staff not very friendly. Went for a meal for my Dads 80th cards on table, staff no input at all. Another downside no parking.
V. W.
Food came fast lovely service from the team member with the funky spikey hair very nice....
L. M.
I really like the food there. However, I wouldn't go there on a sunday, as my classic beef burger was not quite as good as I hoped. Went there again on the next day and had the best Hot Dog in my live!
N. H.
Like any Wetherspoons, the food is good quality for the price and each night has a promotional meal (e.g: Thursday is curry night). I greatly prefer this Wetherspoons compared to the Twelve Tellers on Church Street, there is a much larger selection of beer and spirits and has a lot more seating area, however does there isn't a dance floor (however I don't feel that is a loss).
D. C.
GREAT PLACE TO EAT AND DRINK.
E. W.
We had good time in this place on Monday night too
M. S.
Build your own breakfast is better and cheaper than the normal, not available at all establishments.
Well done Tim. Hope I haven't jinxed it.
N. G.
Table service, although it was quite busy service was pretty fast, servers were polite.
A. D.
Great pizzas for the price, drinks came quick after ordering through the app and place was clean.
L. C.
Its a really good place to chill and have conversation as opposed to the more dance oriented venues in the area.
B. H.
Lovely place. Even in the evening it's decently quiet due to the fact that it's such a massive venue. The prices are also nice and low, usual Wetherspoons prices
A. W.
Now living in Manchester i make this my meeting spot when i can for breakfast with my Preston friends, least one a month. It's comfortable and well made wetherspoons food.
Can get a bit "rowdy" on football match days, and good luck getting to the bar friday/saturday night.
J. B.
Good cheap food but rescently, no matter which weatherspoons or lloyds we have visited, we've had to ask the staff to bring out the missing items on our standard large breakfasts. (Every time, multiple venues)
S. J.
This is a pleasant whether someone, it's open plan interior gives it a fresher feel than other whetherspoon restaurant's, myself and a friend had a very enjoyable lunch, we were served promptly both with drinks and food, I'm vegetarian and really enjoyed the mushroom risotto
c.
I didn't have high expectations because you get what you pay for and know what to expect in Weatherspoons. Food wasnt good and half of it got left. Staff were friendly and helpful though.
M. E.
Brilliant food
Lovely atmosphere
Friendly staff
Definitely be going back
G.
Food, drinks, ppl n staff were lovely. Food was hot n tasty
A. W.
Scruffy seating at the front with all the drunks. Nicer seating at the back. Service isn't great tho 20min to get drinks on a Monday afternoon.
L. T.
It was lovely food and good service
S. H.
Amazing , loved my 2 pints of lager, spacious and similar to all Wetherspoons all day pub diners.
L. M.
Ah, oh humble Wetherspoons. It’s as good as any Spoons. 4* because a mother once left her child with me (I didn’t know the mother or child!!) and sat at a different table here once. Mother wouldn’t take the child back said “oh no she’s enjoying playing with you”. Terrible experience but makes a great story. Preston is a wild place. I ran off eventually. Don’t like children
C. P.
Food good great atmosphere
R. S.
Very convenient and comfortable watering hole if you are in central Preston, offering a decent range of good food at low prices along with a range of excellent drinks. Recommended.
K. W.
After reading the other reviews, I entered The Greyfriar with trepidation. On a 5 day visit to Preston my family and I visited the pub on 4 occasions, ordering food on 3 of them. The staff were helpful and efficient, the food excellent for Wetherspoons and the whole place clean and tidy. Before food was delivered to the table, it was cleaned!!
Hopefully others will find the same and add to the reviews. At the end of the day it is a pub chain that is flourishing where others are closing their doors or becoming unreachable for customers with families. More power to their elbow!!
S. G.
A Wetherspoons.. Good value, great food.. A busy town centre establishment in Preston, Lancashire.. Enjoyed a lovely glass or two of an excellent Hardys Rose wine.. At a very reasonable price.. With generous servings of whatever meal we chose from the menu.. A really varied menu..
S. G.
Standard Wetherspoons fayre. Good service as usual. Quiet for Tuesday even on steak night. Food excellent as always.
V. G.
Nice place. Really friendly staff
M. C.
Service was good, ordered the food and its arrive within 5 minutes, fresh and hot. Nothing to fault.
S. H.
Very stingy on the fillings in the panini & the coffee machine was broken. There was a long wait for food but on the plus side the lager was good.
A. V.
Good beer, good prices
I. R.
Ran out of food only pizzas left not much choice of them.went in for breakfast next morning was told only veggie breakfasts left ended up at cafe round corner where THEY had food
L. W.
Very nice, reasonable prices, would go again.
S. D.
Always Very busy , but staff are friendly and helpful, food is reasonably priced and very good .
P. M.
Great cheap food and beer. Perfect for pre-football meets. A bit lacking in atmosphere but who cares at £1.99 a pint?
T. M.
Wait times were long but the food and drinks were ok priced, meal was average pub food, nothing to write home about.
D.
It was a good experience for a Whethers
Staff were awesome!
Great and speedy service by Damian!
Thanks guys will come again for sure
A. D.
The Grey Friar is a Wetherspoons owned bar and restaurant. It is large enough for gatherings and meals out with families and friends but is also ideal for quiet meals out alone. The menu is large and filling as with most Wetherspoons and there is a large selection of drinks from the bar.
R. S.
It was a nice environment but was not fully impressed with my meal. I ordered sweetcorn as a side and it was dry and burnt
l. w.
Love this pub .the best staff than any other wetherspoons we have been in. Efficient and friendly .Great choice of drinks. Good food.fab coffee.
O. G.
Large spacious pub restaurant inthe centre of Preston. There is a wide selection of beers and good menu for food. Very reasonable prices and nice chilled atmosphere.
K. E.
Great staff and drinks but a general bad atmosphere. Nothing that can really be helped but felt a bit unwelcome every time I've been in. Good prices on food but I have found the meats are often overcooked
B. D.
Good food all social distanced tables warm and cozy if you just want to go in for a drink
J. T.
The place was fairly empty but drinks ordered on the app took an age to arrive.
E. S.
Good food fantastic atmopher
D.
Handy for Preston station if you have to wait for a connection. We went in for a breakfast. As with all Weatherspoons pubs, the staff are pleasant.
S. ..
Lovely staff and the fried buttermilk chicken burger is still just as tasty
R. L.
Great selection of drinks and well priced. Could do with a better food selection or lets be honest , less frozen to plate food.
J. M.
Great beer at great prices. The food is good value for money. Friendly helpful staff. The interior is starting to show it's age
P. D.
Nice place to evening out great atmosphere. That conserve hot food. Also does have a ramp for wheelchair users. It's worth visiting
S. K.
This is in my top 4 favourite pubs in Preston-the fact that a Wetherspoons pub makes it into the top 4 pubs of Preston is perhaps equally due to the fact that Preston's pubs have been going downhill for several year's now like many other locations in the UK and also that Wetherspoons are thriving.
The Greyfriar, like most Wetherspoons pubs, offers great value for money, excellent real ales, a wide range of drinks and clean, comfortable surroundings.
The one thing that most Wetherspoons pubs offer that The Greyfriar doesn't however is good value, quality food. The food at he Greyfriar has always been sub-standard for some reason. Mostly microwaved frozen food and very unappetising. This doesn't look set to change even though the pub has recently been refurbished with new toilet facilities-much needed!-and seating areas.
The Greyfriar is centrally located and makes a great meeting point or ideal location for last drinks of the night.
The real ale selection is particularly impressive with a wide range of ales available that change regularly-all at good prices.
A new, second Wetherspoons has recently across the other side of the city-The Twelve Tellers which is a Lloyds No. 1 bar-so it will be interesting to see how this affects the trade here although I expect the 2 Wetherspoons to compliment each other due to the different brand types and locations.
Preston's pubs and bars look to be getting better now with a few new openings and some others also in the pipeline.
M. U.
it's alright still - the portion size could be bigger for the Vegan/Veg breakfasts, my husband didn't feel full after eating it. the hash brown was too oily, i couldn't finish it but i do recommend the American breakfast - good stuff
T. j. E.
Had the mixed grill.... Well hypothetically. I 2inch steak and 2 pieces of shriveled gammon and a shriveled mushroom. Cold chips and a ton of cold garden peas. Wetherspoons have changed so much over the years and not for the better.
J. F.
Typical Weatherspoons public house. Friendly staff, good food with prompt service. Plenty of tables to sit at. Can get very busy at weekends.
D. S.
Good food and price..there's an entrance for prams and wheelchair but not always open and accessible
g. a.
Good beer and food,
Best value for money you can get! a******
S. F.
Easy environment with great space and excellent range of beers
M. B.
Wet night , not to long a wait and good food , pleasant staff.
V. C.

S. D.
Its an ok pub nobody seems to clear tables much tho always full of empty plates and glasses beers ok tho
B. K.
Excellent and very helpful staff. Excellent food and prices of course.
S. W.
If you have 40 minutes between trains you can walk here quickly, have a breakfast, and walk back to the station with a few minutes to spare. If it's quiet anyway... 👀
R. W.
Very decent Wetherspoon outlet. Covid restrictions are causing problems but they are working round it quite effectively.
A. G.
It's a Wetherspoons. You don't need to read reviews, it's exactly like the other Wetherspoons you've been to. Cheap and cheerless. An airport departure lounge bar without the fun of flying.
J. C.
Good location,beers ok,staff friendly,food average(no Sunday lunch)
King's Lynn the best pub &food so far 5star.
Been to at least 30 pubs so far.
O. G.
Nice atmosphere and plenty of beer's to pick from.group 14 for a leaving do no problem for staff when we moved tables.all the meals were hot and very nice.this was my first visit to grey friar and would go again.
J. K.
Friendly service and atmosphere
s. s.
Although the menu is still great the portion size has shrunk considerably over the last few month, this is applicable to all wetherspoons pubs
S.
Standard Wetherspoon place. Same food same drinks. Service seems to have gotten worse recently - many times in an evening bar staff are missing off the bar and its a struggle to get served.
R. B.
Good for a little food and a quiet pint. Clean.
J. S.
Really like this Wetherspoons pub. Breakfast is really good.
J. B.
Gone to weatherspoons for a while open space reasonable prices and friendly staff good for family and wheelchair access
J. J.

It's a Wetherspoons! Good beer very average food but reasonably priced. Young staff who get a lot of stick from patrons. It's a Wetherspoons!!!
D. H. (.
Large, usually busy. Good food and beer for cheap prices. Lots of seating, great for group meet ups.
S. N.
Good hot food
M. M.
Love it,Go in Weatherspoons all over the country.
T. S.
Located near the university, other bars and pubs and is near takeaways it has a good mix of ages, great atmosphere
M. E.
I traveled over from Sydney for a couple of weeks and have been eating out at a number of places around the Preston, Blackburn, Clitheroe, and Longridge areas.. mostly mains of £15-25+. On 2 occasions I have tried this pub for the special meal / beer deal....both times I drank the shipyard beers which remind me a little of a typical pub pale ale back in Aus...the fis and chips whilst not standout was good and not oily.. the british indian style chicken vindaloo had a strong tomato/onion base with a little spice - overall very pleasant and around £7 for the beer and food is comparable to good Aus specials...nice enough pub, staff friendly enough.. would have liked to stay for more beer..
M. S.
Weatherspoons, one of my favourite places to dine! Friendly staff, great atmosphere & fast food, what else could you ask for?
P. H.
It's a weatherspoons what's not to like
M. L.
Excellent and friendly service. I would love to visit again the next time I am in Preston.
J. B.
Cheap and cheerful, ladies toilets could do with a revamp
M. S.
The service was excellent the food is good the atmosphere is wot you make it to be no music blaring out at you and you can hear wot your friends are saying lol xxx
P. H.
Lovely food great Staff Weatherspoons at its best
D. R.
Typical wetherspoons. I don't recommend the breakfast, the bacon was like cardboard the egg was hard, there was no tomato the hash browns and toast was OK.
P. B.
Decent size, great priced food and decent quality. Good drink selection, nearly always a free table whenever you go.
L. F.
Under covid conditions this witherspoon copes exceptional well. We use the app and was served pretty quickly by friendly staff.
l. m.
Great place for food
W. W.
Food was tasty and uncomplicated with ordering and paying through the app, not much in the way of atmosphere, but functional in a kind of "does the job" way.
D. Z.
Nice place, good and cheap food.
J. J.
It's a Whetherspoons, you know what you're getting - and that's cheap but good quality food and drink, and a brilliant app that means you don't even have to to to the bar.
A. K.
Great service, short waiting time, staff is always very pleasant and nice.
S. O.
Excellent value , spotless. Good beer
S. R. T.
Cheap and cheerful, food fine, service fine, clean surroundings,go often😃When serving bangers and mash, please serve on a plate not in a dish with a separate jug of gravy.
A. W.
You know what your getting here good honest food and drink at a good honest price. Always come here if there's a few of us wanting an informal place to meet for food drink and a catch up
s.
Great staff, come to you quickly with food and drink. Place was clean, toilets clean, no faults.

Good food and good prices
R. A. (.
Standard Wetherspoon pub. Decent enough. Bathrooms surprisingly not miles away up flights of stairs!
n. w.
Cheap, great place to start a night out
J. H.
Nice pub, cheap beer, nice to be able to sit outside in the sun.
M. E.
Despite being a typical English pub, this place is family friendly and we love to have breakfast there. We were never disappointed by quality of food, prices are fine, however potions for veggie breakfast could be better. We specially love the good and satisfying free refill Lavazza coffee.
N. A. H. M. T.
The more quieter Wetherspoon in Preston compared to Twelve Tellers. So it is much easy to order our drinks and food.
H. S.
Use the grey friar very often, very friendly staff who are always smiling, but the real ales tend to be served flat with no life, this has happened many a time in the last few weeks, however the food is great and is brilliant for students
G. B.
Under £3 for 2 teas or coffees and unlimited refills...( some have hot chocolate too) fantastic price and you can stay as long as you like 😊
T. H.
Great selection of drink, not bad for food and not bad for price. Around a typical weather's weatherspoons experience.
D. R.
Had great curry wiv other half great chef as always but he let down wiv a burnt onion bhaji on both plates cud had 5 star but well done
C. D.
Drinks real good value but service very slow.at times. Toilets on ground floor a Big plus.
A. R.
Great evening with my ex and current colleagues. The pub is a throwback to the 70's IMHO. Huge inside and almost no one there....Loud though.
m. m.
😀
P. O.
It's Wetherspoons what's not to like
cheap and cheerful.....
C. N.
Bigger than the one in my town but the food is still the same. Affordable and good!
A. W.
Friendly staff and quick service but watery pints
A. T.
Friendly staff. Price's ok. No problem with my visit.
A. B.
Quite a large wetherspoons with a great atmosphere and decor!
C. R.
Great. In daytime good place to sit by one of the full hight plate-glass windows, and watch the world ( or at least Preston) go by, while the wife does the shopping.
A.
Fair food for a fair price.
D. O.
Good and cheap place to have a meal with the familly
T.
Excellent food although had to clean own table as salt and ketchup spilled everywhere prior to seating
R. A. B.
It's OK for something fast and cheap but be worned it will get busy and you will have to wait for food sometimes around an hour
