Fabulous food and friendly staff. A good selection of alcohol free cider although they had run out on our second visit. You get a discount on the food if you’re staying at the nearby Best Western.

The food was good, great prices, really good atmosphere. It is being refurbished and the changes seem great. There's also a great range of gins and rums. The pork belly starter was amazing. Also really enjoyed the dressing in the salad. Yum. I will be going back for sure.

Went here for the first time on Sunday. Excellent service and lovely food! All bartenders/chefs were friendly and happy to engage with customers. It is always tricky to find a local pub that accommodates for small children but they were great. Top service however online booking would be better than having to call. Thank you :)

Visited at towards the end of lockdown when it was table service only, friendly staff showed us to a table in the garden where the Euro's were on but at a low volume so everyone could still enjoy their conversations. Orders and drinks were quickly handled so no long waits for your drinks. Will pop back next time I'm around that area.

Been meaning to write a review for some time; better late than never hey! What can I say? Fab pub, great staff, good selection of drinks available. Was only here yesterday, I was worried what it would be like in the new normal we have now but my worries soon faded away, the staff couldn’t be more helpful & on hand when needed, food well that was absolutely delicious! Nice pub, good beer, and an excellent Sunday roast. Dont make the mistake of having the pan fried duck breast with spicy noodles. Overcooked and sweetened to the point where I couldn't decide if it was a main or a pudding. Truly dreadful. However, if you avoid that you'll have a good time.

The food was good although I would have liked more vegetables with it. Good beer selection even though the beer wall was not available. The staff were fine but distracted. The place was very busy with two parties. Before ordering we were warned the wait for food would be 45 minutes but it arrived in 30 so that was good management of expectations

Very mixed experiences on 2 visits on consecutive fridays. First was just before bank holiday weekend, fabulous weather, v busy. Drinks mostly fine (save for warm white wine) but all our food took a long time and all came back overcooked, with one medium-well steak basically burnt and inedible. Serving staff, who overall are ok, on this occasion were just not really interested in our complaints. The following week was quieter but much better. All food cooked just right and my steak and ale pie was fabulous, nice tender fat-free meat. Maybe the chef was on holiday over the bank holiday? Otherwise nice ambiance, and very dog friendly, which was the main reason we went back after the bad experience.

I always eat here when I am staying overnight in Reading for work. This is a lovely pub with a courtyard at the back it was great to sit out there during the summer months. They do great food here, the Thai food on offer is delish. Efficient staff and nice ambience; I will keep going back.

One of those places that's not sure if it's a pub or an Asian restaurant. So, it's OK but not great at either. Decor is nice. There are Sumatran dishes on the menu. There's an outside area for smokers. A big improvement on its previous incarnation as a very ordinary pub.

Classic British pub out of the beaten path, with a good selection of beers and a specially delicious indonesian food. Atmosphere and service is excellent and the beer garden is a must see. Located in a quiet area near the university. Well worth a visit.

Got to be the most improved pub in Reading since it was taken over by Spirit House a couple of months ago. Real ales, Indonesian style food and classic pub dishes are available and the service is excellent. Well worth a visit.

The manager James and all the staff are amazing no matter the problem I had they helped no matter what and no matter on how inconvenient I was, I now I want to come here everyday and just come to the pub and eat and drink just to see them and I have to make a really massive thanks to the chiefs, the staff and a big fat thanks to James for helping me and making sure I was well looked after.
