Very nice local pub. Green King pubs usually have a good range of drinks and meals at very reasonable prices. And being a member of the AA, you get 20% discount on your food and drinks! 😃 If you have the appropriate membership. I think. 🤔 Luckily I did. So check your AA app. 🤷‍♂️

We just had a Christmas dinner and it was great. The staff were so inviting and couldn't do enough for us. Really good atmosphere and unhurried. If you haven't been there before then you have missed out, especially on Christmas Dinner.

Fabulous family pub! I go regularly with my dad for lunch and also joined yesterday for the Christmas Party put on for the children. What can say, you all out did yourselves. The staff are so caring, friendly and consistent - Always the same faces and you can build a lovely rapour with the staff. This is truly the best pub around this area!

My Mum and I called into the Sportsman for a meal. Personally I found the music being played was too loud. The meal was OK and usual pub classics. We're unlikely to call in again.

Comfortable. But don't go for the food or drink. I had an IPA beer that I couldn't finish and a steak and ale pie. The pie dough was like Japanese mochi, you could chew it forever. The mash potatoes were like rubber. The weirdest mash potatoes I've ever had. But the staff were friendly and it's a good place to watch a match.

Very nice evening, me and my Mrs came in for an evening dinner. I had a katsu burger which was very delightful cooked by curtis, for which I had to get his name as I was so fulfilled with my meal! 100% will be returning! The staff was so delightful and welcoming!!

Liked it . Cozy and clean. The so called side salads on dishes that are usually just some pathetic green-grey leaves and two paper thin slices of tomato was actually great here. Freshly cut including tomatoes, peper and onions.

It was our first time here and we'll definitely be returning. We decided to visit for the eat out to help out offer, the food was great and arrived quickly despite it being quite busy. Even with the pub being busy social distancing was being maintained and there are multiple hand sanitizing station. The staff were friendly and we were greeted at the door, all round great evening.

Lovely staff. Greene King so beer limited but the IPA was fine as we only had one. My adult daughter's fish and chips went down well. Only negatives, which is my personal view of course, was the fruit machines and the array of TVs showing non-live football.

Ended up here as random choice. We had been before but many years ago. As the weather was nice we decided to sit outside so hubby went in to grab the menu. I chose hand battered fish and chips, hubby had lasagna and the kids had fish fingers. First problem was the lady behind the counter my husband said was really rude. The children's menu was meant to come with main, desert and drink but were told they don't stock children's drinks. So hubby went to tesco and bought something for our kids. The owner (who just recently took over the place) came outside and we thought he was going to moan but instead he wanted to reimburse us for it as he explained they were still having "teething problems" Food: my fish was just a little too crispy for me but it was tasty and the tarter sauce a bit lemony which is odd as i like lemons! The lasagne was nice but hubby said too tomatoey! The kids fish fingers were a big hit. Once they have sorted themselves and the menu out we will visit again. The new owner seemed like a nice guy and we wish him the best of luck.

Good, traditional pub food, reasonably priced. This is a traditional, unpretentious kind of pub, which is refreshing, as many pubs in the Reading and Thames Valley areas are moving to provide over-priced, pseudo gourmet food. They have a sensible range of beers, again not pretending to be anything other than a traditional pub. The staff are friendly and the overall atmosphere is relaxed. Kids are welcome and the free WiFi is among the fastest I've used in Reading. The toilets are in need of some renovations, but hey, this IS a traditional pub! I won't knock off any stars for the toilets. A well-deserved 5-star experience!

Went to the sportsman a couple of times now, as we live down the street, it has some nice food specials and the food is always good! Their service is friendly and fast, this is an awesome local pub!

After using this pub for forty years I was disappointed to be told that a basket meal was not a 'substantial meal' for an eighty year old and refused service. Do you not want customers?

Friendly bar, but no Rugby showing when I went in,, even on England match day. The bar staff put it on for me,, but then switched back to horse racing after I had bought a pint!

When there for 1st time in years had a breakfast with the gf bacon was burnt couldn't eat not just crispy but cremated the sausages also burnt so couldn't eat them so on leaving I said to bar lady most of it was burnt ALL I GOT WAS OH OK NO SORRY NOTHING but apart from that interior looks nice
