M. W.Amazing staff members, I forgot a Lush bag in the secret garden in the non smoking area and I called them a few hours after I got home. They looked for it and they found it and called me the next day in the morning to come and grab it. The drinks are always great, very clean, well poured pints of Guinness and cider. The wine selection is amazing as well. Also the fact that the Pub allows you to bring in your own food or order food from other places to go with your drinks is absolutely fantastic. Customer service is always great. Toilets are always clean.
B. B.Friendly helpful staff. Wasn't a problem to change our beer when we noticed it was cloudy. Was end of barrel. Plenty of other choice of real ales. Lovely garden with shade perfect for the heat today. Recommend a visit if you haven't been.

A. T.Despite appearances this small looking pub has a huge garden out the back, it has some non smoking tables but as it's walled in you may get a bit of stray smoke wandering around. Due to the table service only period you could not see their full range of beers at the bar, and the table service could be a little slow. Now normal service has resumed, I shall be looking to try some of their other beers I discovered they carry.

The selection of ales and ciders is forever changing, they always have their "pay day beer festival" where they have a larger selection the prices are a little more than other places but the atmosphere is always great. Step into a small bar area and walk out into the garden on a nice sunny day you won't need to leave this bar. The staff are always friendly and quick too. If you like ale, cider or even larger come and check this place out. Definitely one of Reading gem's.

Good beer, a patio that tells you that the owners know their plants, intimate bars and an old fashioned Jukebox that cannot be beaten (at least for the older ear). Prices are not cheap but are well worth paying. Thoroughly recommended. No real food. Closed Sunday.

R. W.Came here with work colleagues on friday night. Has a nice beer garden with heaters so you don't feel the cold too much. There is not a large drink selection, but the ones they have are good. The inside is also nice and relaxed, even if it is a little small. On weekdays it seems well staffed, and I have always been served very quickly.

Not the cheapest or the best selection of beers or ciders locally but a great atmosphere, nice bar staff and the beers they do have are well kept. Wish they'd change their real cider selection to include something a bit better than old rosie though.

Well set up for new rules. As someone already mentioned they have updated the outdoor area with more heaters and covers over the areas at the top of the garden.

M. B.One of the nicest beer gardens in Reading, and a few decent local ales are always on offer on cask. It's got free WiFi if you ask, and the actual pub itself is cozy and nice, not many traditional pubs kicking about these days!
M. B.Here on a monday so "only" 8 real ales instead of 10. I just happened upon it because it is not in the good beer guide, but easily better than the ones that ARE in it! Wonderful old building with all the features that many of us are looking to experience in olde England . Large outdoor seating and two separate rooms. Great.
W. C.Would be five stars, but for the high prices. Not the highest in town, but high nonetheless. It has one of the best mixes of people in town, from alternative through to quiet towns folk, all drinking and laughing in an open minded atmosphere. All are truly welcome. The split level beer garden is lovely, with large dry areas and colourful plants, gilded at the far back by hop vines. Private parties welcome to reserve space, and quiz nights run every two weeks on a Wednesday by local volunteer teams are always interesting. The managers and staff are friendly and caring. Ale and cider festivals are great and the regular ale selections will tantalise the ale connoisseur. My favourite default go-to pub in Reading, though close behind include the Nags Head and the Ale House. Free WiFi to customers, I believe, seeing as you have to be in there to get good signal. Sadly, no food apart from crisps, nuts and other bar snacks. But they're usually happy if you ask to bring a pizza from Pizza Express next door into the garden. :)
R. H.I feel a bit bad about giving this place 3 stars, they honestly do nothing wrong in terms of staff, service and ambience. What brings it down is the location, limited covered seating outside, extremely limited space inside and the prices.

T.A charming if small pub in the center of Reading. Right next to the bus stops for many routes, you can nip in here for odd drink and it won't cost you too much. The selection is great, so long as you only want a drink and you aren't too clostrophobic as it gets busy quickly and spaces run out.
