Reviews of The Green Man

Wow. How refreshing to go to a pub and get such great staff and food so soon after a change in management.
The boss had a Chicken Roast, and it was really nice, chicken was perfectly tender. I had a lovely burger, chips and coleslaw.
Prices might put some off, but you must try. A new play area will be installed soon too.
Guinness was perfect too, more importantly!
H.
Friendly staff, happy to make menu recommendations and really accommodating. We got a selection of nibbles as a shared starter, all really tasty. The venison scotch egg (with a runny yolk) was a particular highlight! Did note limited range of non-alcoholic adult drinks (only Heineken 0) so car drivers stuck to soft drinks. Unfortunately we were so stuffed from our starters and mains that we didnt get to sample the pudding menu but there was plenty that peaked my interest! Will be returning!

Wow, new management are truly amazing. They are working so hard to making this place the number 1.
Service is amazing and friendly, food is awesome, can wait to see them reach the stars. Well done everyone
W. H.
We went here for lunch. They only had one chef in that day, so there was longer wait than usual. We sat in the garden, which was nice. The fish and chips we had was also good.
I. C.
Charming and quaint beamed pub in a quiet location.
Ample parking with plenty of seats for alfresco dining.
Well kept Breakspear beer 🍻.
A menu to suit most tastes at reasonable prices..
J. B.
Went here for some food for my mums birthday, a small selection of options on the menu but we ordered 3 different meals and each one was cooked very well and tasted great and big portions.
J. B.
fab chicken roast a couple of Sundays ago we had a lovely lunch good to see Ben and Di and Mike the chef wish you well we will be back ASAP xx
J. M.
friendly bar/ restaurant. nice outdoor garden.
Roast on Sunday good. Beef too rare and difficult to cut and chew. Otherwise excellent
P. S.
Always had great meals there but chef left. Poor chap running it is trying to run his own pub so left with difficult job. Vegetables rock hard; those who had roasts had black potatoes and parsnips. Cherry tarts all had rock hard burnt pastry. Staff brilliant. Just hope new chefs can do better as we love going there and will go back next year. Hope head chef gets to grips with things, once employed! Will try it out once in place.
R. A.
Food was good, service very poor one dessert ordered sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and got custard with it. Was not worth complaining.
E. W.
Cosy pub with outside area suitable for children. Good food. My son enjoyed creating his own pizza - beef & prawn!
L. M.
Very dog friendly and welcoming staff. A proper pub and extensive garden.
K. B.
Amazing pub with exceptional food and a stunning beer garden.
S. G.
Lovely pub!!
Wide range of food delicious desserts and plenty of different drinks to choose from!
The pub has a massive garden with benches to sit on and also in the garden there is a kid's play area.
L. R.
Love pub and lunch was good only criticism was lack of choice on lunch menu
D. W.
Great food and good selection of ales. Staff were very friendly and polite. Lots of seating so maintaining social distancing is easy. Recommend the fillet steak sandwich if you're there for lunch.
J. M.
We had a lovely meal here. Couldn’t fault it and friendly staff too.
D. K.
The good... Food always good, exceptional fish and chips, friendly very good service.
To work on... Deserts at £8.50 are excessively priced. The garden could do with some investment. Kids play equipment very run down, tables well weathered and could also do with a refresh. The grass needs returfing. None of this affects the enjoyable food, but would make it more appealing to go more regularly and to invite others.
D. M.
Lovely lunch for our Pilates group summer day out. Very well looked after and the steak and horseradish sandwich was delicious. Many thanks, we will be back.
G. F.
A great local pub with a good selection of real ales. A pleasant restaurant menu, with tasty food in an old English style pub with exposed oak beams by the dozen.
Great service and friendly staff.
B.
Really nice roast only one thing the roast potatoes are a mixture of fresh and frozen on the plus side they have real gravy here. Would definitely recommend eating here
G. P.
This Pub has always been a good place to go over more than 2 decades. Personally I think it is at its best when you can sit under the shade of the oak tree in the back garden.
N. K.
This is a lovely pub, with good beers and good food. We should have left a 5* review a long time ago, but what moved us to leave a review this time was our experience yesterday. We explained that we'd like to eat there but only had half an hour. The member of staff explained that they already had a lot going through the kitchen but then had a quick chat with the chef before recommending a selection on food that could be done more quickly.
After placing our order the manager came out to acknowledge the fact that we were in a rush and reassure us that our food was coming out soon, which was entirely unexpected but a lovely touch.
The food came out, it was great as always, we had a lovely half hour in the pub and went away feeling great about the place.
Definitely coming back soon. The combination of a beautiful setting, good quality beers, lovely food and superior customer service where you feel listened is an absolute delight.
Highly recommended!

Came for a spot of lunch and a pint in the sun, garden looks really nice with potted plants on tables, everything clean and looks nice. Bar staff really friendly and helpful deciding what to have off the new menu. Treated myself to the new mac n cheese with garlic bread and a FRESH side salad...oh and a cheeky side of sweet potato fries! Highly recommend, cant wait to come back and try more from the NEW menu
S. H.
Went on a Friday night and it was really busy with a nice atmosphere. The owners were really friendly and welcoming and explained that they'd just taken over. Good menu and food tasted nice. Service was really. Pizzas were lovely as were puddings. Will be back soon for a Sunday lunch.
L. M.
I've always loved this pub, friendly staff, and traditional decent quality pub food. Nothing fancy, but cosy and friendly. They welcome well behaved dogs and have dog treats on the side! Good kid-friendly garden in summer, log fires in the winter.
A. R.
For a Friday night it was extremely quiet. The food was very good and in the main service was OK. What is letting it down is the prices are high for what you get. Mind you, it seems to be a general issue everywhere with non independent pubs. Whereas food used to be relatively cheap and drinks were expensive, now food prices are rising. As such, it is not surprising people do not eat out so much and pubs are closing.
C. P.
Had a roast dinner, the staff were great, prepared our order before we got to the window as they heard us talking about it. Roasts were pretty mediocre,
I think the potatoes must have been cooked long before serving as they were really hard and dry.
C. D.
Lovely food and a great menu with pub favourites and some quirky, delicious alternatives.
Good selection of ales I'm told!
Very friendly staff and clientele, a lovely big beer garden and play area and dog friendly too.
Coming back to sample the Sunday menu for sure!
E. O.
Such a lovely pub, great menu, friendly and attentive staff. Table service occoured inside which was a welcome change. We booked a table for Sunday lunch in advance as it gets very busy, so advise one to do so in order to avoid disappointment .
S. C.
Great winter pub, friendly staff, nice food 🍻
T. H.
Lovely peach gin, seating inside and out. Not crowded friendly staff.
C. H.
Unadventurous looking, safe "pub favourites" menu, but the food was well cooked and presented. Friendly efficient staff. No complaints from our party apart from one overdone burger, so I would say worth a visit but not from too far away. Not letting dogs in loses a star for me.
S. W.
Came on a Monday because they advertised a games night, but the place was dead and had to help ourselves to the board games. Not that big a selection of board games, most pitched at kids and bits missing. Would love to see scrabble, monopoly, risk etc. Food was OK. Roast chicken slightly over roasted. Chicken burger wasn't stellar. Sticky Toffee Pudding was nice though. Most of the meals were a little overpriced and quick to come to the table.
N.
1st time visit and not the biggest order in the world ( coke, pint of bitter and a plate of chips ) but was made to feel welcome, definitely going back.
M. M.
My expectations are hard to please suffice to say the score holds at 3*
On arrival i found lots of parking spaces. Inside the pub the atmosphere created by such an old traditional establishment is welcoming and friendly bar staff add to the pleasure. The food offering is genuinely a good effort but fails in imagination and flavours when choices include burgers pizza and soup..
C. C.
Nice cozy place with good pub food. Can get quite busy at times but service was excellent, I recommend that you book ahead. They could do with widening their beer selection - maybe a few more bottled beers. Will be going back soon!
G. W.
Gorgeous old traditional pub in a quiet location. Cosy fireside drinking in a warm and welcoming crowd. Large outside drinking area and huge car park. Food prices a little ambitious for the location - pie and pint £15.
B. B.
Stopped by for lunch. Pleasant garden, inside traditional pub with plenty of tables for eating.
Brakspear on tap.
Steak sandwich for my wife and ham egg and chips for me both excellent.
Have to come back to try the pies.
H. W.
Nice pub however it was a bit too expensive and the Macaronni cheese is very small wouldnt reccomend getting it.
K. C.
Very friendly service nothing is too much bother. Great service and super menu choices with great variety. Good choices of beers and most acceptable wines
R. C.
Lovely pub and great beer. Dog friendly too which is always a plus.
M. S.
Great pub atmosphere, great food. Yes, you pay for it, but the quality justifies the price. Well kept beer too, as you'd hope. All in a peaceful rural surrounding.
R. S.
Great food, atmosphere and friendly staff. A fantastic village pub
E. L.
Perfect food after local walk great pub.
Back again middle of Summer, same great service, excellent food and quality real ales. This pub does not disappoint!

The Green Man is a hidden gem. The food is great and the service is amazing. What makes this pub so great are the landlord and lady, they go the extra mile all the time. The food is just delicious!!
J. P.
Nothing special, stopped 4 a coffee on a bike ride. Sat in the court yard which is a nice area. I can't comment on the food but people say it's good
B. A.
I went here for dinner last night with a goup of friends for the first time since it had been taken over. From what the restaurant was like, last night was very dissapointing.
Firstly the starter. I had the crab and crayfish cocktail. While the cocktail itself was lovely it came with a pre bought, part cooked baguete which hadn't seen an oven before being put on our table. This was like eating a dough roll.
Secondly the main. I had the rump Steak which again was lovely. However I asked for a salad instead of chips and a side order of coleslaw. The coleslaw never arrived and the salad on the side of my plate was a very small handfull of lettuce which looked as though it had been screwed up in someones hand. The waitress then brought over my side salad. This was simply a bowl of mixed lettuce leaves. My plate also had a pile of onion rings on it which was meant for someone else.
Lastly the sweet. I had the lemon tart. This was the worst of the lot. It seemed to be a pre bought, cheap tart that had 3 times more pastry than filling.
Overall a very dissapointing meal which came to a little under £40 each with 2 drinks.
I won't be hurrying back.
B. B.
Just been here and had a great meal, I highly recommend the steak and ale pie also the landlord is a Yorkshire man which makes it a very friendly place

Been four times recently and going again for Sunday Lunch.
J. W.
A nice village pub, but sadly spoiled by having muzak piped throughout the bars. It was once a quiet place for a drink and a chat, but no longer.
t. s.
The Green Man has changed hands a couple of times in last few years but now seems to be stable again, with very good food and beer. Lovely garden too on a nice day
E. A.

(Translated) I was a bit disappointed because I was with a disabled person, I couldn't go inside with a wheelchair, and the tables outside were on the hill, there was a problem with the driveway and positioning the wheelchair. As for the food it was delicious. Nice service.
(Original)
