Reviews of Brewhouse & Kitchen - Southampton
K. B.
It’s a large pub restaurant at the top of Highfield Lane. Car park at the front with a decking area.
The pub inside is large with a variety of seating options. It’s also a good place for the Sunshine!
It has a brewery on site and lots of other choices on tap and in the fridge.
To the rear is a large garden area. Again with scoop back chairs, tables and benches for eating, and most of all four beautiful beach huts!
In the evening there’s mini light bulbs and a large wood burning font.
There’s a large menu which can order from your table via a QR code.
Staff are friendly and helpful and I would recommend this place whatever the occasion.

I had the Sunday roast chicken and it was very tasty. The beer was amazing. It is a beautiful place with nice food and drink (beer) so I can definitely recommend.
I don't have a dog but I can ensure you it is a dog friendly place.

My best experience 'on the Trail' in Southampton so far. Rather than the ubiquitous Doombar, sometimes the ONLY offering, here there was a good range of craft ales to choose from.
Potentially these were all readily offered, in sampler glasses on a try-before-you-buy basis, just as they should be. The Front of House staff clearly well trained in customer focus.
The certificate was easily available for scanning and not hidden away behind doors or ornaments.
As in all venues of this 22 branch estate, there is an eclectic menu to choose from, the Sunday Roast being competitively priced even compared to Wetherspoons - and on that subject, without being too sniffy about it, B&K seem to attract a more genteel patronage.

We called in to get something to eat today. We all had the roast pork Sunday dinner which was delicious. Everyone commented that the vegetables were particularly full of flavour. I want to also thank the lovely staff as I stupidly left my phone and purse behind. They thankfully found it and kept it safe for me. I am so grateful to them for this.

Been here during the day and in the evening on a few occasions. Nice atmosphere, family friendly and dog friendly! Drinks are a bit more expensive than some other places in southampton, but fairly standard price compared to other southern regions. The back garden is really nice too, so if the weather is nice it's ideal for an afternoon or evening drink.

Spent the afternoon here on a Gin tasting masterclass… brilliant fun! Our host (Ben) was excellent, very knowledgable and engaging, despite being a bit under the weather on the day. We got to try some really interesting Gins and learned a lot about the history of Gin and how it is made. Being a microbrewery they also do a Beer tasting masterclass which is very much on my to do list now. Great place and a great experience, 100% recommended !

I arrived at 9pm freezing cold after a friends recommendation. I expected that they’d have stopped serving food but they hadn’t (yay!). The two girls behind the bar were wonderful in helping me choose a beer, asking what I liked and walking me through the beers, offering samples. So smiley and helpful. And they were absolutely lovely with my dog. I sat down with my pint and the menu. Feeling cosy and welcome. Ellie came over and asked what I’d like, giving me some recommendations. I fell in love with the atmosphere, the beer and the people before I even tasted the food. To top it off, the cheese and pretzels were incredible! Great experience. Thanks guys!
M. E.
Found this place a bit hit and miss. Staff seemed new and not the most polished- member of staff serving our food had spilt some of my chips on to the plate on the journey to my table and his hands were touching them when he placed the plate on the table. Prices a bit expensive for what you get. Garden is lovely- if it’s a nice day I would definitely recommend sitting out there as the smell of yeast inside is a bit overwhelming (obviously understandable as it’s a brewery but maybe not the most pleasant when eating).
R. C.
We went there for Sunday lunch with my daughter and friend, and our dog. The staff were friendly and helpful, the garden large and comfortable. The food was fine, although my vegetarian Wellington arrived warm at best, but was otherwise good. They also have a good selection of beers and ciders (as you might expect from a microbrewery!)

Came for the brewery experience day. Loved it. 10am-5pm absoloutely flew. Connor our guide was an absolute legend, and I'm sure he was on a mission to get us both merry with the amount of amazing beers he kept bringing out for us. Can't wait to go back!
E. J.
Had bought a beer tasting masterclass giftcard for my boyfriend’s birthday in 2021, finally got round to booking it and we had a great time. Andrew was a great host, very knowledgeable and personable and gave us a wonderful experience. Thank you!
D. R.
We were lucky enough to experience Hope’s first Gin Tasting Masterclass. She made sure we had a really good time. Hope was also very attentive after they class, making sure we enjoyed our Academy Menu too.
T. C.
A lovely evening at Brewhouse, we sat in the garden and were treated with great service from the waiter Peter. Would recommend for any beer lovers as they have their own brews!
R. M.
Fantastic beer tasting experience with Andrew. He has good knowledge of each beer and made the afternoon highly enjoyable. Recommended!
B. H.
Brewhouse and Kitchen is OK but not great. Food is pretty average but also expensive. Drinks are very expensive. I think you could justify going there if it is convenient but just don't expect to be impressed.
L. M.
Good selection of craft beers, although I haven't tried anything from the menu personally, a friend had the focaccia and it looked amazing. There's a nice garden outside, so it's great for sunny summers days.
P. B.
Nice quirky place. Great indoor and outdoor options. Allow you to try beer
J. W.
Love the pub quiz at 8pm on a Monday every week! Especially with Ellie working her magic behind the bar
T. M.
Booked for a birthday dinner after being let down last minute by somewhere else and really happy things worked out the way they did! Great food, drinks and service - highly recommended
M. C.
Nice atmosphere and decent place for Southampton. The burgers were mediocre and expensive for their quality. Beer selection is ok, but they are served at room temperature
M.
Went for a brewery day today, three of us, Connor was the master brewer. Excellent day, very informative, can only recommend. Great day out, educational, good food, fantastic beers… think I need to sleep now though, lol. Don’t hesitate, just do it…
J. H.
Big up Andrew for being a great host, really easy to get on with and knew his stuff too. Beers were great and food was good too. Bosh
J. T. (.
Absolutely love this place. We have previously visited the Dorchester restaurant and thought we'd try out Southampton... Wow. Great customer service by our waitress Aimie, great food, great beers... 10/10
L. S.
Good food and beer selection. Definitely worth a visit.

The Brewhouse & Kitchen was a lovely surprise It's a very nice cosy well designed pub went for drinks with friends The staff were nice and friendly making us feel very welcome We didn't try the food but definitely will next time it looked lush I will go back soon
J. W.
Andrew was very detailed. I liked that he paused to take all my questions, which he acknowledged and answered. I’d highly recommend this tour 😊
J. G.
First time at this lovely pub. Excellent service and delicious food. Can highly recommend
J. M.
Went for my first time after everyone raved about it. Sat by an out of control stag party at first so had to move to the cold conservatory. The table was completely full and by the end of the meal the table had only been half cleared.
The food is nice (not the best in the world) and certainly a bit overpriced. The beer was nice however the coffee at the end was very mediocre. I couldn’t find a drinks menu anywhere so didn’t know the price... you can imagine my surprise when I handed over £10 for two coffees and got 50p change.
The main course was also a bit slow to come out. The starter came out pretty much instantly. A napkin would’ve been lovely with the chicken wings. It’s certainly a nice place to go with friends, however, expect long waits, an empty wallet, and slightly above average food.
T. G.
Beer Masterclass with Andrew- extremely knowledgable, we all had a great time, would recommend
K. M.
This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff are also really friendly. They know what they’re doing, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is really good, I just wish there was more mac and cheese on my daughter's meal it was a small portion. Which to be fair it was ordered from the kids menu but could of been a little bigger. There were 5 of us eating and it was very reasonably priced it’s 100% worth it.
S. P.
Absolutely brilliant beer master class led by Andrew! Strongly recommend 👍👍
M. B.
Had a lovely experience during Sunday lunch. Very welcoming of dogs and provided a water bowl without needing to be asked. Food was lovely and our server Tara was great!
I've been many times and will continue to return.
s. j.
Really great lunch today. The garden is lovely and we had booked a beach hut which was perfect! The beer-can chicken with honey and miso sauce was delicious. Booking to do the same next month. Dogs are allowed in the garden too! Staff were also very helpful & we really enjoyed it, thanks!
I. L.
Seriously good food with their own craft beers and ales. Plus, garden in the back is like a hidden gem!
B. A.
The food and beer were so good! we ordered the sharer platter and was enough for 2 people and so much variety to try, also very good service from all the staff. Overall it was a great place recommendation from Mario.
L.
Great Beers. Staff very friendly.
The place is very nice and a lovely back garden to it.
The only disappointment was the food took too long to come, waited well over an hour, and when it arrived I had to send my Roast dinner back as most of it was cold.
Would visit again but only to sample the beer.
Shame as it was a Father's Day suprise.
E. S.
A great evening out. Booked table online and then ordering of food and drinks is all done via Web. This worked well although I would have setup an account beforehand to make it easier on the night. Service great, both drinks and food arrived promptly. Make sure you charge your phone🙂.
T. R.
Had a lovely night with a group of friends last night, we were over two tables due to the rule of 6 but we sat in the conservatory so it was apart from the rest of the pub so it felt like we were all sat together! The football was on so there was a nice atmosphere in the pub! Shout out to Zoe who was very patient when taking payment and attentive 🥰
M. N.
Lovely food and great atmosphere. Huge selection of drinks. Would definitely recommend
E. M.
Great service, food was nice but be better if more extensive menu. Few things not on there so very limited tonight. Think it would have been better had sides were included rather than added extras.
I. I.
Good selection of ale and beer. Good choice of food and friendly staff. A very cosy nice pub
m. w.
Excellent Brewery day. Got to make the beer and drink plenty of it as well. Food was really tasty as well. Friendly staff
C. E.
I deliberately picked a quiet day to have lunch here and was not disappointed. Booking a table was easy, as was ordering the food online from the table, despite a lack of many menu items on the day. The staff were very friendly and made me feel at ease. Would definitely recommend this place for lunch.
t. p.
OKish attempt at craft beer but lacking variety and their own beers can be pretty meh. Also burned my chicken burger.
A. H.
Three of us had a selection of different starters each for lunch. We sat in a hut in the garden which was a more like a private dining experience.
I had Wild CaughtGarlic King prawns, Patatas Bravas and size salad. Delicious and the service was excellent, thanks to Star
S. W.
Brews their own delicious beer. Food is above average with vegetarian and vegan options. Nice big garden.
L. B.
Nice garden, food was good, staff friendly and helpful
L. G.
Amazing food but a bit of a wait between starters and mains. The burger was delicous though.
T. S.
Amazing menu, amazing beers, amazing staff. I am glad I found this little gem as I will be returning for sure. The best part is if you aren't sure about any of the beers or ciders they will let you try it with little dedicated shot glasses. Our waiter Luke also served us at the bar when we entered, he seems like a man of many talents as not only did he do both of those things but he made sure we later understood how to use the codes at the tables for ordering from our phones but also made us laugh over and over again. He recommended that I try the 10% Chocolate Stout drink that they have in a bottle, unfortunately I couldn't risk it as I had work in the morning but next time I come down I will make sure I try one. If anyone from management reads this please give Luke a pat on the back, we have never felt as wanted as customers.
K. H.
I liked the copper urns on show as you walk in (for brewing?) We didn't book but they had space in the garden and we sat in one of the cute huts. We ordered and paid on the app and got everything brought to our table. Great food, will come again to try some of the beers
A. D.
Amazing place! Lots of fantastic beers and what a great opportunity to learn about how to brew!!!
J. C.
Great service every time I've been - on this particular occasion I was served by Tara who was very friendly, upbeat and helpful. The on-site brewed beers are tasty.
R.
It was always a brilliant pub, but I was really impressed with everything they've put in to help protect against coronavirus... from mobile ordering, to special grips on doors so you can open them with your foot!
Beer was great and the food ridiculously delicious. All the staff were lovely, and looked after us brilliantly (especially Luke our server).
N. W.
Andrew hosted a beer and whisky tasting and was brilliant. Top bloke.
D. C.
Had an amazing lunch with my sister-in-law on Thursday 17th December!
The food was delicious, the staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough for us!!! Felt very covid safe as it was pretty quiet and I would recommend the Brewhouse and Kitchen to anybody!!! Thank you Brewhouse, we will be back!!

1. Atmosphere. Superb. People here are not rowdy, everyone is chilled and happy. It's family friendly. In its own bespoke box of cosiness.
Epic.
2. Looks and design. Stunning. Classic looks with a touch of modern but rusticness. The lighting catches the evening
sky a treat and gleams with a magic energy on the pub. The colours inside and around in the garden screams out pure class.
3. Food. Delicious. A joy to taste. The chips were coated perfectly in its crispy goodness and the inside melted in my mouth. The fish that went with it tasted fresh, and was pure delight to chow down. The highlight of my day.
Epic.
4. Drinks. Precision engineering makes this craft beer the number one choice to go with your meal. Just ease yourself into the world between craft beer, food, and good vibes.
5. Staff. No awkward moments. Talking to staff has never been so much fun. Thanks Luke, hope you're well.
B. M.
Great burger and beer in the sunshine of the garden with the most attentive service from our waitress Star. Very enjoyable.
l. a.
A fun gin masterclass with Ben ... got to sample 5 gins (4 of which were new to us) followed by a double gin of our choosing from their entire range. Great doing a class that was not brand specific. Thanks Ben ...
P. M.
Yesterday was mine and my wife's first time out post COVID-19 and I must say it was absolutely amazing. We were greeted and shown to a table in the garden. We used the QR code to order our drinks which were brought to us by the worlds nicest young man (Luke) who happily answered our questions and also was happy to speak to us every time he came round to collect glasses. We heard audible laughter from every table he visited, you could tell he cared about the customers. There was a young lady (we didn't get her name) who was also extremely polite and helpful. Both members of staff were extremely well presented and very well spoken. Luke spoke to us about your Beer Classes and gave us some documentation on it. I am thinking of doing it for my birthday next year. Thank you Luke and the young lady! (I'd also like to make you aware we simply made this account just to write a positive review we were that impressed!)
M. L.
We visited a couple of times in summer 2019. It's an odd vibe: the place is clearly aimed at 20- and 30-something hipsters, but most of the clientele is forty or older, possibly because the prices are beyond the reach of most younger people. This place is about beer, front and centre: if you don't like beer and you're not providing transport for someone who does, go elsewhere. For beer fiends, however, this place is brilliant. There's a wide range of different beer styles, many of them brewed on the premises, and the ones I tasted were very good. Food portions are generous, and the quality is fine. The food is more intended for soaking up several pints of beer than for feeding people on a diet, and there are recommended beer pairings by each dish. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about beer, and they're happy to let you try a beer before buying it. They also have interesting special guest beers. You can opt for your own choice of three beer tasters of a third of a pint each. Midweek, at least, parking isn't a problem; don't know about weekends. The main reason we don't frequent this place is that it costs a bit more than we want to spend on a weekly date night.
L. A.
First time eating out since before lockdown! We came here for a double birthday meal. Food was wonderful, the drinks were perfect as ever ❤️ big thanks to Luke for serving us and being a wonderful waiter. Well done to everyone for making a comfortable, safe, socially distant environment in which to enjoy a big of normality
H. M.
I was always a bit worried about visiting this place as I thought it would be far too "trendy" and "hipster" a place. But I was so wrong, this place is perfect for any type of person.
I visited on Monday during Eat Out to Help Out, I thought it was going to be utter chaos as the restaurant was absolutely packed to the rafters. To begin with I felt very worried as I walked in I was greeted by a man who looked like he had mould growing out of his head. Hilarious to think a fully grown man could think a blue faux hawk is a good idea, especially when he is serving the general public. His tattoo's were also incredibly childish... I mean I love superhero movies, but come on mate, 2 sleeves? Grow up. I know it's more normal now-a-days but he looked extremely unprofessional and didn't even acknowledge me until he'd finished telling some kind of story to the customers at the table by the entrance. He then showed me to my table, finally when he had finished making stupid jokes and left I had chance to absorb the ambiance of the pub, and boy... was it rich and beautiful. You can tell love went into designing and laying out this pub. I had trouble using the app so instead went up to the bar to order my drinks, it was there that I was served by Luke, potentially the best bartender I've ever met. First thing he asked was if I required any recommendations to which I went with both his food and his drink recommendations. I had the women's day beer and the buffalo chicken burger and it was absolutely incredible.
I will be back, over and over again. By the end of my time in the pub I'd completely forgotten about the shoddy service at the start. Thank you so much Luke.
T. K.
Long live Luke the wonderful waiter! (The food and drink is pretty great too though 😉)
In all seriousness though, this was my first time out at a pub post-lockdown and I knew I made the right choice! Large beer garden with way over 2m between tables - really felt secure and meant that I wasn't worrying about people I didn't know "cozying up" nearby and ruining the atmosphere! Drinks prices are a bit steep but overall a great atmosphere, which is the most important part! Also the food was excellent and arrived very quickly - and Luke the waiter made sure we had all the condiments and extras we could possibly need - fantastic service by the staff!
L. V.
This is a very pleasant, warm, relaxing place to have a drink and a lovely lunch. The garden is nice and big with good outside seating. The brewery has many lovely stout and porters which, are my favorite. But also, a large selection of wine, larger & spirit etc. They are also more than happy make a nice cup of coffee. The food is lovely and well-priced. The staff are all very friendly and really know what drink to recommend complementing the food. There is a car park for customers. The pub is dog friendly. The toilets are clean. I can’t recommend this pub highly enough. I will most certainly make the effort to return as often as I can
E. C.
Very lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and very good food! Reasonably priced too.
Can now do table service from your phone too!
L. D.
Had an amazing time here for the beer tasting. Our host Charlie was fantastic, with knowledge and also great banter. Highly recommend this place for a good afternoon.
O. C.
Tara was a lovely host, had good beers and amazing food! Would recommend the chocolate orange tart for vegans 😍
S. C.
Welcoming staff who kindly accommodated us sitting in a quieter area of the restaurant. Food was good and I enjoyed the general feel of the place. Have stuck with 3 stars because both for main and dessert we had ordered an amended version of a dish (sweet potato fries for main and then having custard AND ice cream with the dessert), which we duly and reasonably paid extra for. When the dishes were served to the table (both main and dessert, so this happened twice), they did not have the additional/amended item included and we were questioned both times by the waitress when we raised this, with the insinuation that we were lying about having ordered a different variation. We did then receive the additional items, but with it happening twice in one meal, with the same waitress, just left a little to be desired.
t. l. f.
Service was good. The vegan burger was OK and my wife enjoyed the ribs. We thought the accompanying chips looked like one portion shared between two people. I would have liked more vegetarian choices. The beer was good though.
S. C.
Great selection of beer. Loads of options. One of the best pubs in Southampton for options.
In terms of food, the quantity of fries and its presentation needs to be drastically improved, looking at the prices. Possibly present fries in a bowl with the burger. It looks quite sad to just seem them spread about on a plate with your burger, as if the kitchen did us a favour by giving us some fries.
E. P.
We had a lovely meal with our kids, huge portions and a good menu catering for all. Great range of beer! Friendly staff (thanks esp to Luke). There is a huge beer garden with beach hut tables and an outdoor fire pit. We ate indoors where there are reassuring measures e.g. clear screens between tables (which are not intrusive) and you can use an app to order if you want, plus lots of hand sanitiser around. We will be back :-)
N. D.
Great experience given the current covid situation. Luke was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a tasty and safe place for a meal. App is easy to use, and the government £10 off per person makes the food insanely good value!
H.
Very enjoyable food, and decent service. My order was slightly wrong but not enough to warrant a complaint, plus it was ridiculously busy!!
The beer is very nice too but the cider selection was limited. It was also rather pricey!
Overall worth 4 stars. I would go again (I’ve been twice)
T. G.
Great beer and good food. Service excellent. Their own brew 'Hamptons' is fab.
C. G. E.
Big, brash and busy place - great for a lively night out. Wonderful selection of beer, cider and wine (as you would expect)
Family welcome, we even saw babies, and a great atmosphere.
Would have given 5 stars if they had a better selection of veggie meals but what I did have was great and I wouldn't hesitate to return for another fun night out.
T. B.
Great venue for the footy shame about the result. Amazing staff especially Darren and Kayleigh out the back sorting me out a top quality chicken burger and chips. Can't ask for much more.
J. H.
Lovely pub just off one of the main routes into Southampton. Great food, wide range of beer including their own brewed on site. Excellent table service from the lovely Star. Well worth a visit .
N. W.
Had lunch in here a couple days ago, great choice of beers and a good menu, really nice food. Well worth a visit. Certainly changed a lot since I used to play darts here back in the 70's.
Update:
Since done the brewery experience day, brilliant. Matt the brewer really knows his stuff, well worth doing if you're into real ale or not.
UPDATE 26/7/2018
Matt the brewer is leaving tomorrow, new brewer, Connor already in place, will have to wait and see how this affects the ale.
UPDATE 29/10/2020
The ale here is virtually undrinkable at the moment, I'm consistently marking it at 1 or 2 out of 5, the other day I had to mark it ½ (0 means "no real ale available).
G. J.
Such a nice atmosphere. I've been here twice, once for a lovely lunch with my grandparents and another time for a very drunken birthday celebration with friends. I'm impressed that the same venue caters for both types of event equally well. Plus they allow dogs which is a great bonus.
S. K.
Had around 40 people round the side for a birthday. Staff were attentive and friendly, with enough knowledge of their products to inform you what's best for you to drink. Always an amazing selection of beers on tap, plus a quality atmosphere and well decorated interior. Not to forget a decent sized beer garden with fun booths in the style of beach huts
C. D.
Stunning quality food & drink with a well presented and large pub. Extensive beer choice with a solid spirits and wine selection. Huge garden with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Food was good but service a little slow. Worth the wait but don't expect to be in and out. Highly recommended.
N. C.
Great range of beers, many brewed on site. Delicious food-we had fantastic barbecued chicken with tempting sides. The pudding menu looked superb, though main course too generous for us to try it.
S. H.
Great evening here. Good food and drinks. Tara our waitress was awesome. Friendly and attentivative. Will definitely return. Highly recommend!
J. D.
A colleague and I stopped here after a morning on the Isle of Wight, googled burger bars, and aimed for this one as it was en route to another job.
The food was truly outstanding, we were really surprised!
+ Good value food, reasonably priced, and very tasty
+ The IPA beer battered onion rings were out of this world!!
+ The beer was reasonable, not particularly noteworthy though
+ The toilets were clean and in good condition
+ The decor was nice, a pleasant environment to be in
- The staff and service were a little lacking, a big queue of people waiting to place orders/drinks, but 1 person behind a huge bar! (lunchtime) - but they were friendly when we eventually got to placing an order
Despite the under-staffing, the quality of the food and the presentation more than made up for it, so its easy to recommend this nice pub.
D. H.
Fantastic pub with excellent choice of home brewed beer. The food is reasonably priced concidering it's high end pub grub, delicious! Not once did I see the staff members with out a smile on there faces. You can tell they enjoy working there and it comes across with the hospitality.
Would love to come back in the evening to try some of the different dishes they serve
S. W.
This place is awesome. Really good beers with a great selection. The Brewhouse own beers are good but only if the stuff is working. Food all comes with drink suggestions and is really well made. Been here a couple of times and due to the slightly more expensive prices than average bars, it is more of a treat to go as it is much better than the average mitre or wild lime.
S. P.
Always have a great meal here. Lovely staff and great portion sizes. Excellent value for money
N. C.
Very good. There was a wide choice of beers. The fish and chips was also very nice.
N. R.
Lovely pub! Always has a great atmosphere and we have always managed to get a table, even when just strolling in. Would advise to book if you’re planning to visit at the weekend so you’re not left disappointed. Staff are very friendly and they have a good selections of ales and beers. The food is very good and so are the portions. My husband and I have been quite a few times and will definitely be back again!
C. H.
Great tasting local brews, and an incredibly friendly bar staff. It was easy to get allergen and dietary information. Only complaint is it can be expensive for a night at the pub with friends, but you're certainly paying for quality and taste.
J. M.
Reasonable range of interesting beers and ciders on tap with more in cans and bottles. Good food and pleasant surroundings. Can get very busy with the university being so close and it has to be said the prices are quite high.
B. B.
I seem to come here a lot since moving to Southampton. Family friendly, but the families don't intrude. Good range of beer (obviously) but the hot chocolate was surprisingly good too. A good selection of starters doubling as up market bar snacks, and a small but good menu.
D. M.
Really nice pub with a friendly atmosphere. Every inch of this establishment has had money put into it and it truly shows. The only downside is that they are trying too hard to appeal to the "quirky" drinkers as there is not enough mainstream lager. If I had the option for a Fosters or Carling I feel it would have improved the experience as I wasn't sure what Craft Beer I was purchasing. Other than that, it's a nice place to go for a drink if you know your craft ales.
D. W.
Great selection of beers at this microbrewery. The food is above average too. The staff are very knowledgeable about the various choices of ale's. PS If you find it hard to chose which beer to have ask about a flight, you get a chioce of 3 one third of a pint beers for almost the price of one.

1. Atmosphere
Fairy lights make the beer garden look very pleasant
2. Food
Extremely tasty!
3. Bevs
Slightly expensive but still managed to get a good buzz
4. Staff
Luke the waiter was a babe and very helpful
5. COVID-security
Top notch
A. K.
Great atmosphere, lovely interior, really helpful staff, bar tender was bringing beer to table literally within less than a minute from order, Jess L is a 5 star waitress. Food was lovely too. Will definitely visit again👍👍👍

We are regulars here and love both the atmosphere and the food- good quality, decent pub grub. We last visited on Father's Day, for dinner with our three kids. Despite being very busy, the service is what deserves a special mention on this occasion. I even had to send back my dish due to my own mistake (I am allergic to eggs but forgot to ask) and the manager in charge did everything she could to offer me alternatives. She also did not charge me for the dish , which she didn't need to as it was my own fault. What a great example of true customer focus .
We visit regularly and for sure we'll be back soon.

Really nice place. Came here on Valentine's day, it was cosy even though it was busy. Great food, price accordingly. Make sure you book a table and you won't be disappointed. They brew their own beer that I liked (I don't drink beer normally) and they have a great selection of ciders, wines, cocktails (beertails) and of course beers. Well worth a visit.
P. C.
Lovely choice of beers - many brewed on the premises. We ate in the beer garden, great tasting starters, slightly disappointed by the mains - why would you over-cook a 30 day aged beef patty in a burger, so it's texture was like a falafel? But the chili dogs were good.
Good value, would try it again.
V. C.
Just had a lovely roast lunch here. Sat in bar area as we had our dog with us. Great place brew their own beer 🍺 given samples to try! Food reasonable priced good portions amazing staff! can’t fault this pub will definitely come again
K. M.
We really enjoyed it here... Only thing was one of their fryers was broken and as we booked via the head office helpline. We didn't find this out till we arrived and quite a few dishes were unavailable.
We all enjoyed our meals. Only gripe was my daughter's mussels had half of them missing. Turns out they were all served at the same time as mine so I ended up with her mussels as well. I did however manage to get a fresh bowl of mussels to replace them...Drinks a bit on the pricey side to be fair but it's often the case.
All that being said great quirky venue and lovely garden space..... with additional bar out there too
R. P.
Superb interior decor, fantastic choices of ales, beers, lagers and cider. Their whole brewing operation is completely open and makes for a wonderful experience. Large car park, free WiFi, beautiful garden area and super friendly and knowledgeable staff.
My friend and his wife avoided this place for years...I will show them the error of their ways...and will drag them here next time I'm passing.
K. R.
This pub is a vast improvement to the previous pub that was here, it has a nice homely feel to it, the staff are very friendly & they have great selection of drinks. When we visited we sat on some cosy sofas in front of the open fire place & enjoyed some warm mulled cider, for a true Christmas feel. Although we didn't eat there this visit, we had a look at the menu after seeing other diners food coming through, we were very impressed & will definitely be returning. They offer tasting sessions for the microbrewery, or you can book a whole day experience which includes breakfast & lunch, I am looking into booking this for my dad's birthday, he would love it.
D. M.
Great place for a pint and a bite to eat . Staff are friendly and courteous. I love the garden with its rustic furniture.
A. M.
Very nice choice of beers and drinks, food was great too. Their garden is a great place to meet up with friends,
H. W.
Brilliant place. Good food, and friendly staff. There is an excellent selection of craft beers and ales on offer, some brewed in house, and other more mainstream ones available.
The ambience is great too. Wonderful experience, will head back again soon.
M. B. G.
Beautiful place in Southampton with a wonderful rear garden. Beers are very nice and they also organise brewing classes to learn all the tricks around need making. The selection of beer and food is good. The only limit is sometimes the kitchen that can get slow if the place is full of people.
N. S.
Great fun at the Cider tasting event!
D. G.
Have had a very enjoyable afternoon at Brewhouse and Kitchen. Food lovely and beer fab! Experience made all the better for our waiter Josh who was very helpful and friendly, an asset to the place. Will definitely be back.
S. L.
Good lunch, friendly staff, interesting brewing area.
R. S.
Had a staff Christmas Dinner there and it seems they are not so well equipped for bulk orders.... Some food had clearly had to stand. Brilliant for smaller group orders though, hence the 4 stars. Beer is ace too. Also, on this occasion, staff didn't seem to know how to turn up the heating... It was chilly. This should be a 5 star venue.... But bit on this one occasion🙄
P. T.
Solid pub with a great range of beers from all over. Serve their own brew too.
R. D.
This is a very characterful pub. Mainly tends to attract students been so close to the university. They offer some great craft beers. They also offer brewing classes which I highly recommend
V. C. T.
Tasty food, lovely and extremely cozy interior mostly in winter time by the fireplace. Huge variety of beers to choose the right one for your taste. Very large "backyard" space suitable for enjoying the sun on summer and sunny days.
W. S.
Attended a "Brewer for the day" course here. Brilliant experience if you're into real ales. Got fully involved with the brewing process and tasted a few samples along the way. Great pub with wonderfull home brewed ales. Try the experience you won't regret it.
T. W.
Enjoyed this establishment on more than one occasion now. It's nicely decorated and of you have an interest in brewing, this place is for you. So having family visit, it was an easy decision to take them here to sample the different selections of beer. Honestly, this establishment would've received a better review if not for a rather bizarre online booking policy. If you enjoy craft beer and brewing I encourage you to visit the pub: The beer is great, the food is good. Hopefully this review will give upper management some feedback on a frustrating situation that I've never experienced in any other venue.
A brief summary of our experience below:
Sitting down at an empty table, we ordered drinks and food for four. Quitely drinking, chatting, swapping and rating drinks, the food arrives all at once in good time; excellent.
A brief moment later, someone drops a reservation card on our table whilst we are just about to eat. We've just received our food and we have under an hour to eat and leave the table.
Not put out as so far as the venue has been great, I politely ask the lady serving my next round of drinks if any other tables were available. There must've been a mix up and the staff hadn't reserved the table yet. Understandable. It's busy. A bit frustrating but not a major problem, we're here to try the beers. "There's a table in the other room for you" she said. "Thanks for the help" I reply.
Despite our meal becoming a timed eating experience, we finish and head to the available table just mentioned. Another round of drinks are ordered.
30 - 40 minutes later, someone is dropping reservation cards on tables. The very table we have just been put on, we are now being told we have it for a short time only: it's just been reserved online.
Watching this unfold I get out my phone and search online. There it is. I've figured it out. It's 17:00ish and I'm already in the pub; I'm also online and I can reserve a table for 18:00.
At this point, any understanding has gone. This is poor. It only needs some common sense. What gives an online booker priority over an already paying, and eating customer?
A top tip and loophole that can be learnt, even exploited from my experience is as follows: If your in the venue without a seat, go online and book anyone you fancy. Watch as anyone sat at the table you want will be told they have a short time to leave. The table is reserved.
Your moral compass is questionable, but who cares? You have a reservation!

We ate here last night as family of 4 (2 very young children,) our server luke was great with the kids, and his service was attentive without being over bearing, nice food good beer, what more could you want from a pub.
P. K.
Wonderful pub to enjoy Sunday Lunch, brilliant selection of beer as well as a good home cooked menu. Roast was fantastic. Service was attentive and at a good speed given how busy the pub was. Highly recommend.
D. L.
Love this pub. Regularly stop in after work for a quick beer. Great atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff, always a good selection of beers. Haven't tried the food yet but always smells amazing!
E. B.
Love the place, especially the cure beach huts in the garden. Food is awesome.
A. S.
Impeccable food, very tasty burgers and really nice staff!!! 😊 Plenty of drink options! The food is affordable too.
A. K.
Had a great time at the gin masterclass with Ben, a nice break from the woes of the past couple years. Location in good order, good selection of products and very friendly personnel
P. H.
Good food, sells their own beer if you want to try something different. Staff were friendly and managed to reserve a table fairly last minute. Desserts were delicious.
A.
Staff were mostly brusque (even though there were 10 people in all in the place at the time), they ran out of crockery to make coffees at about noon when it got a bit busier, their breakfast poached eggs were all overdone (we ordered about 3 different meals with poached eggs), the baked potato was underbaked, the smashed avocado on toast has about a spoonful of avocado and there was no soap in the ladies' bathroom. This is all before lunchtime on a Sunday.
That said, they have a good range of beers and the place is in a good state otherwise.
s. c.
The meal was great, staff very friendly and helpful. After the family meal had a party in the evening in the conservatory for my grandsons engagement with about 60 attending with buffet laid on and everything was brilliant. Highly recommend.
A. D. R.
Pros. With good weather, there's a nice garden on the back and if you are lucky to find a table you can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere.
Cons. Long wait to get the food even if you have booked a table. The main was ok but it was missing the real taste of what the appearance was promising. Overall, a bit overpriced compared to other alternatives.
M. B.
Fantastic selection of beers, covering a very wide range of tastes. Hamptons IPA is excellent. Only slight disappointment is the quality of food, it's good, but not doesn't reflect the premium price.
A. L.
A decent pub with some great beers let down by shambolic management. Food & bar service is unpredictable. Staff seem to have no clear guidance on what they should be doing. Running out of loo roll in the ladies is unforgivable. Food orders get lost. Ordering at the bar can involve long waits for no apparent reason. I still go there though!
J.
We have not been to the brewhouse for some time. The staff were friendly and tried hard. The meal was good but luke warm when served to table. The house beer was disappointing as it had a sour back taste. Although I gave three stars just a bit more attention could have given better
D. N.
Newly refurbished and renamed Good interior, and big bar with seats and BBQ. Special attraction is in-house microbrewery with own ales, also several cask craft beers on draught. Food was good, but prices fairly high. Given this is prime University student area, it's a surprising style of pub, but presumably does well from visiting parents.
M. I.
Absolutely lovely, friendly and very caring staff in these difficult times. Thank you for a lovely lunch
C. H.
Friendly staff, the steak was amazing.
A. M.
Deserves its superb reviews. Lovely food, helpful staff, beer, good value and a cosy atmosphere. Parking available, sports TV in one area and free water without asking. We will be returning.
C. M.
This gastropub has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and serves a range of tasty ales and other beverages. The food is quite good, featuring a range of meals for meat eaters and vegetarians, and the menu suggests lower calorie alternatives.
D. W.
Great job of working under covid restrictions. Easy to order using the app food was prompt and tasty. All served by a great waiter called luke who was more than helpful and friendly.
L. S.
Very good food, good selection of craft beers both local and further afield. I can recommend the vibrant forest beers! Nice atmosphere and friendly service
S. C.
Disappointed.
No roasts available at 7pm ,and a lot of other items too! Finally found two dishes on the menu, but on choosing rib eye steak I was told no portabello mushrooms! So had to settle for an extra hard tomato, what went wrong?
C. H.
Incredible food. The service was quick and safe and all rules were government rules were being followed. I would go there again.
K. H.
Fantastic beer garden, they even provide blankets when it gets a bit chilly. The food is great, there is a good choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The staff are really friendly and helpful.
E. M.
Had a great afternoon there as part of a big group.
Only let down was being served "cellar cool" beer in boiling hot glasses when we were the only customers at the bar. "Sorry, they're all we've got" doesn't wash. Cool them down with cold water, I can see you have a tap. I work in a bar and would have been embarrassed to have sold those beers.
C. W.
Huge selection of beers, with excellent quality pub food. Very well decorated (active brass fermenters on display) with a great atmosphere. Above average price for the area, but highly recommended.
L. M.
Great new micro brewery pub in Highfield, vast variety of beers and lagers from all over the world. Food is amazing whether it be a snack or a meal visited there for engagement party as they hold functions there really well decorated as bistro/pub a must visit good value.
M. T.
Probably the best pub in Highfield for me, with a great selection of drinks and excellent food! The manager Luke is very accommodating and made sure our last visit was a good one!
J. C.
Was visiting a friend from around here, I'm from the states and the first place he recommended was the Brewhouse and Kitchen. Very friendly staff, was delighted by my visit, in specific Luke was incredible. If I'm ever visiting again I will be sure to visit here again.
M. F.
Went for a beer tasting session and thoroughly enjoyed it. A very knowledgeable host and some great beers followed by a top notch burger. I'd recommend.
T. C.
Very nice social setting. The beer of the week was lovely (Timmermans Pesche). It's a shame the popular dishes ran out because of the busy days before. Definitely will be coming back again.
B. B.
Attended a wake today. Barman was bordering on rude until a more experienced barman, who seemed to know what he was talking about, recommended a reasonable pint of real ale but not of the standard of Doombar or Ringwood. The bars were also poorly staffed considering they were warned it would be very busy. The buffett, however, was of a reasonable standard but I won't be rushing back.
R. S.
Birthday drinks and meals for 5 of us, taking a lunchbreak. Beers are amazing esp "Walk the Line". Everyone loved the food...BLT with a fried egg is superb, chillidog was reportedly very good too. Recommended.
C. M.
Good ales and a large beer garden. Staff and head brewer very friendly! Interior shows off beer brewing equipment and is lovely. There's even a conservatory area with couches.
J. W.
Good atmosphere, big enough to accommodate lots of people comfortably, good food, prompt service. Helpful staff. Dog friendly. A good amount of parking in off street parking around the pub.
G. G.
Just visiting the area for a week with work. Lovely staff and made to feel very welcome. A very cosy pub with a great selection of drinks and pub quiz. Thanks a lot. Hopeing to do the Beer Masterclass later this week. Would recommend as very different to my local Brewhouse pubs in London.
A. C. C.
Excellent range of beer although on the pricey end of the scale, food is better than average and ok for the cost, and the decor is lovely with copper and wood all round. Nice place to spend time with friends.
J. B.
Hipster microbrewery. Nice interior, great beer garden. Wide selection of beers. Food was ok, nothing special. Prices are London prices, but about normal for these type of places
G. P.
I hired office space at the pub as an alternative to working from home and it was superb. The staff were very friendly and helpful with WiFi and providing laptop power. Highly recommended.
K. M.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good pub grub. Totally dog friendly too!
S. H.
Really happy that this place has opened. There's hardly anywhere good to eat around the university. This had good, American-inspired Bar food and excellent beer. Prices are good too.
E. M.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good service. Table of 11 and everyone had their meals brought out at the same time no waiting. Spot on.
E. J.
Food is really tasty and good price. Beautiful place, love the copper and decorations, Staff friendly and helpful, other half really enjoyed the craft beers made in the microbrewery
K. C.
Great beers, garden is bangin. Tropical IPA and Saison the highlights.
j. T.
Good selection of beer, nice food although there were a few things on the menu which had run out, eg., no steaks.
J. “. K.
Excellent range of home brewed and off-site craft ales along with a menu with selected pairings for the incredible drinks menu. Highly recommend for both ale lovers and haters a like
P. A.
First visit. Great selection of craft beer. Hampton pale brewed on site was excellent. Good burger at half price on Monday promotion too.
L. L.
Lovely food and nice atmosphere
M. K.
Another delicious lunch was had by all. Made to feel very welcomed by all the staff, especially Star, who was as usual very efficient and wonderful with our little grandson. Thank you Star!!
H. B. O.
Very good food but customer service was very slow
C. G.
Nice place with a good range of beers. Very popular with a lot of families. Did go on a Sunday afternoon though. Only criticism was that they had run out of the desert I wanted.
P. B.
My wife and I have eaten here twice and each time has been brilliant - both times that we have eaten and really enjoyed the Beer-can chicken. The service is very good.
I highly recommend this to anybody.
s. q.
Lovely pub. Great food. Good value for money. Love the greenhouse aspect, interesting to find out how beer is made and to taste different varieties of beer brewed onsite.
D. D.
Relaxed and welcoming with very good food and a wide range ales brewed on the premises. This place expertly caters for all. Excellent all round.
C. T.
Sunday roast was good especially with extra gravy and potatoes available without charge. Large drinks selection and a different beer garden to boot!
D. W.
Really great beers, from tasty session ale to dangerously nice Belgian style. Shame we couldn't run a tab for our large party but otherwise no complaints.
K. S.
Good pub quality food, but with greater variety. Great service, good selection of beers. Enjoyed the secret garden on a sunny Sunday.
S. H.
Amazing day at the Brewary experience. Connor was a great host and the beers were lovely.
H. C.
Tasty food including vegan options. Reasonable prices. Informal warm atmosphere but gets VERY busy.
D. L.
Love this pub. Regularly stop in after work for a quick beer. Great atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff, always a good selection of beers. Haven't tried the food yet but always smells amazing!

Really nice place. Came here on Valentine's day, it was cosy even though it was busy. Great food, price accordingly. Make sure you book a table and you won't be disappointed. They brew their own beer that I liked (I don't drink beer …

P. B.
Atmosferic place, delicious food and good choice of original beers.
I love the idea of the beach huts in the beer garden.
I definitely recommend this place.
C. L.
Excellent beer for a good price, friendly bar staff. Food is really nice but a little on the pricey side for what it is and can be slow when busy.
P. L.
Great pub. Decent beers. Great wings and friendly staff. Waiting times at the bar can be a little long on occasions
D. M.
Excellent selection of beer all brewed at the pub, the Hamptons was particularly good. Excellent service from our waiter who name I forget but he had tattooed arms
D. S.
Fantastic beers, ales. Great food, excellent service. The beach huts in the garden are a glorious touch. And try the Hamptons. That's all I'm saying.

A. L.
Visit to see son at uni and popped out for some lunch. Excellent food and service. Beers amazing from their own microbrewery which smelled wonderful
V. W.
Food was nice but my partner thought his meal was too small and despite not being busy it took them 25 minutes to bring our drinks and take our food order and then another 45 minutes after that to get the food!
D. M.
Great beer, food was nice and came very quickly. Has a nice garden area and friendly staff!
D. L.
Brewed a beer here with their head brewer, lovely bloke! Beer quality is excellent as always, great service too. Would recommended highly!

The pork ribs as a main dish are seriously good. Apart from that, it is a nice pub with fine selection of ails including locally brewed ones.
P. A.
ok for a chain brewery, although sunday night they had run out of lots of food on the menu - please have more fresh veg on the menu
L. B.
It's a bit too trendy for me being very close to the university. Having said that their beers brrwed in house are excellent. Never esten there but food looks good as it goed by...
J. M.
Lovely place to dine and the food was 5 stars but the amount of mac&cheese was not enough
E. S.
Delicious food and a menu that changes often enough to keep you interested, as well as a myriad of beers and gins, served by friendly and knowledgeable staff, what's not to love!
z. z.
Really nice place. I was pleased with the moules frites but my friends didn't like his burger, no taste and too fat.
I. L.
Great pub with good food and beer. Large seating areas made it easy for our group of 8 to sit and have a meal.
S. V.
Good selection of beers and ales, including some brewed in-house. A wide range of food that tasted although it did make a few of us a bit ill the next day.
s. c.
We have not been here for a long time,we thoroughly enjoyed our meal l had chicken and mushroom pie and it was delicious, my husband had Pollock and chips not had Pollock before was a worry but definitely will return to have it again staff very helpful and friendly .
N. C.
A little expensive for what you're getting, not a very inspiring food range, but a great spot when the sun's out or for after work drinks. Lovely decor and environment, would prefer the prices to better reflect what you get as well as the area. We tend to bypass it and go to Trago.
S. H.
Lovely atmosphere with an interesting range of beers and other alcoholic drinks. The service is brilliant. The food is pretty good for the price.
F.
Can't find anything wrong with this place. The food wax great, the atmosphere relaxing and our waitress was the best I've known, sooooooo attentive and uber polite, Star was her name.

Good atmosphere, but found food a bit pricey and only 1 of the many ales was on tap.
H. C.
Great selection of beers. Look for seasonal brews. Also bring cash as their card machine is often broken
S. B.
Excellent pub for lunch and great selection of beers. Really good service. Highly recommended
J. F.
Outstanding bar, staff and beer garden. Great choice of ales too! Highly recommend.
S. G.
Great Gin Experience
R. P.
Nice food, and good selection of beers, but they have recently reduced the portion sizes of the food, and both the drinks and food are already expensive for a pub, so it's not so good anymore.
E. L.
