Reviews of The Alma Inn
B. S.
Lunchtime visit.
On this occasion we had main courses only.
Food very good and hot.
Very good service at the bar and the food brought to our table.
B. S.
Food was lovely, even though it was pretty busy every thing moved quickly still. Carvery line moved quickly too, staff were lovely and very patient with the children. We was late for our reservation on fathers day. we phoned ahead to give a heads up, we arrived expecting to have to wait but they had a lovely table sat ready for us on arrival. Would recommend to others.
C. S.
Visited for the first time this afternoon. It was absolutely amazing. The range on the menu is wide and we found something for everyone, even my daughters who have severe allergies, therefore it can be hard to eat out with them. The staff, especially Ella and the managers were so lovely to deal with, they were polite and professional and really nice. The whole atmosphere meal was brilliant. Would definitely recommend and return
K. G.
Excellent carvery. Roasts were spot on and I'm VERY fussy on my spuds. Best I've ever had apart from mine 🤣.. Eating out... Staff were great and even gave me a box as couldn't manage it all so I could take it home
K. W.
Very very good value for money midweek carvery. The meat ( turkey and beef) was really very good. The veggies needed a lot more seasoning so no more than three stars. Half a star extra for the jam sponge and custard. Very much improved since our last visit prepandemic.
E. J.
Enjoyed a lovely all you can eat cooked breakfast, which was served by a lovely friendly member of staff called Megan. Megan was more than happy to help and answer the questions we had. Plenty food, the vegetarian options were good as well as wonderful hot drinks. Good value for money, will be visiting again :)
L. H.
Good value for your basic hearty roast ! Meat was actually soft and cooked beautifully for a chain pub - affordable and family friendly. Would recommend if you want a quick roast and don't fancy cooking
A. B.
Great pub, went in and was seated straight away. Food was great once they got my order right. The all you can eat icecream for the kids got a bit messy but a nice touch letting them make it themselves.
N. W.
Another pleasant visit! The food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, especially Ben who went above and beyond to make our evening enjoyable. We'll be back again soon ☺️
S. J. C.
Not been there before, as was visiting a friend and me god-daughter. Roasties were lovely, crispy nut roast was a bit dry but still tasty, veg wasn't over done, just right and tastes fresh. I don't go much for cauliflower cheese with roasties. I like traditional roasts, the old fashion way. Definitely return again.
A. F.
No veggie options for the carvery... Honestly, this day in age, how can somewhere not cater for vegetarians or vegans? There's just a no meat option where you basically just have vegetables and potatoes... really poor. Just have a few nut roasts or pies you can bang in the microwave when someone asks for a vegetarian carvery? The food itself was nice but pretty average.
Might give it a try again in the future if they decide to get with the times.
C. K.
Lovely welcoming environment, prompt service. Great variety on the menu. The staff are lovely and friendly. I will most definitely be visiting this pub again.
T. F.
Cheap and cheerful pub grub, we go for the carvery or the mid week 2 course set menu. As with all carverys, if you get there early the food is fresher as it hasn't been sat there long, but they do refresh the veg frequently. I've knocked a star of as the light fittings always seem too need a polish.
J. E.
First time we've visited and we'll definitely be back. Really nice, relaxed atmosphere. Staff were resllt friendly, and shout out to Ben who was great and really helpful :-)
S. W.
Vastly improved, great food and friendly staff
J. P.
My wife and I went here for the first time last night and we thoroughly enjoyed it the meal we had was great and the staff there were wonderful and couldn't do enough for you. We will definitely be going here again!!! ******
K. w.
Superb quality food… Ben was very friendly but also showed professionalism. I was a very awkward customer changing my food and he dealt with it superbly. Will be back again in April !
C. C.
Booked a table with family asked to be seated next to or near my big family booking
And they done it with out hesitating food is lovely’s and outstanding there but I always have a roast dinner Carvery
M. L.
Unfortunately when booking table we were told of certain offers which were on only to find on arrival the information was wrong..however this was kindly sorted out for us by very kind staff "Ben" who arranged for us to have as requested..we will definitely be back 😊😋
K. D.
Always friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and always helpful. Our go to place for a roast dinner when I’m not in the mood to cook it myself
J. M.
At 3.30pm on a Saturday all food good and ready, and nice tender meats . Only thing to add...is roast parsnips to the menu!!
J. B.
All staff are very friendly and helpful . The manger Ben is very friendly and helpful . The food is nice and a great opinion for the children menu with fussy children
A. G.

R. D.
A pleasant country pub with excellent food at affordable prices. Nice, clean decor with friendly staff. There's a good beer garden with children's play area attached. It's about 6 minutes drive from Marwell Zoo.
M. L.
Ben yet again made our visit wonderful! Very friendly and adding fun to the experience. A tasty lunch and can’t wait for the next time. Thank you for making Hartley happy too 😀
M. B.
Lovely breakfast as always, very covid friendly with everything in place. Lovely Yvonne at front of house, a big smile and happy to help you scan in the QR code or bring you more drinks, all whilst answering the phone and seating new customers. Nice hot food, all cooked lovely and plated up nicely.
Will be back soon.
L. k.
Great food! Now probably my favourite place to go for a Sunday roast! staff were so friendly and welcoming. Ideal place for a family meal out 😊
m. l.
Great roast gammon, roast potatoes and veg perfectly cooked. Fantastic price in a relaxed environment. Friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.
R. C.
Always very good food and staff are lovely. There was a delay on our food but without even saying anything we were brought complimentary drinks as an apology. Always go back here.
L. C.
We have started coming here recently and love it, very family friendly and great food, Ben is always very friendly and always happy to help, the staff are always polite and smiling. Our children really love it here. Highly recommend.
M. H.
Ben, Adam and Natalie are very polite. Quick service. Never been a problem there.
G. R. W.
Very nice food, drinks are quite cheap. Staff were very friendly. But there was very little staff, even though it was a slow day, could have done with one more person.
M. W.
Very helpful staff member was there Sunday night(2ndJan 2020) he was very happy and smiling, talking to one of our grandchildren. No job was to big for him. Thank you very much, really appreciated( middle aged man)
A. N.
Came here for the first time in years on the off chance with my partner and was absolutely delighted with the carvary and the selection of food on offer! Tasted amazing, all piping hot and was stuffed after!
Also really surprised with the menu and the availability of vegan and vegetarian options on offer!
Fantastic and friendly service from Megan our waitress. Very looked after.
We will be visiting again soon
A. G.
We randomly stopped here for lunch as we saw a sign for roasts at £4.99 & we were hungry.
We had a carvery & a drink for £9.99 but that was still value for money!
It’s £4.99 for a small carvery.
A pub on the corner of Mortimers Lane & Winchester Rd Lower Upham. There is a large car park.
The staff are friendly & attentive.
M. J.
We attended the alma inn Southampton, as it was my sons 7th birthday, Ben the lovely manager showed us to the table as we had a birthday cake he said he had it all in hand which I thought was amazing , we had a lovely meal as always. As we asked for the cake and your amazing colleagues Megan and Ella came out with the cake singing happy birthday which made my sons day . I really couldn’t ask for a better restaurant and staff for making my sons meal special. Many thanks Michelle X
C.
Great food, lovely staff. Service is very efficient and food came out hot - excellent

Daniel is lovely.
I arrived as part of a booking of 10 people. Daniel greeted us at the door and could not do enough for us. The food exceeded my expectations and we all had a great meal.
I had a burger and most of the people with me had a carvery.
We will definitely be coming back.
j. b.
Lovely staff, nice garden which is a good little sun trap and with a little climbing frame for kids. Huge burger, some calzone and carvery
A. N.

N. H.
Could do with a refurbishment but the staff were friendly and the food was great value... Check out the daily offers too!
B. L.
Ben makes every visit so welcoming creating a comfortable environment to enjoy your meal. Always relaxed and easy going in there.
N. W.
Food is great as always. Ben is always here to greet us with a warm and friendly welcome. I was surprised to receive a call to say I had won a bottle of proseco from a charity raffle. Thank you!
R. P.
Amazing food, lovely place, excellent service, helpful and courteous.
D. M.
[added 27/6/22] bumped up a star because they have improved, the breakfast is better, the pizzas are good, there's good daily offers and the best thing on the menu is the Beyond Burger, and i'm not even vegetarian. staff still excellent.
[added 26/10/21] went tonight to try out the new menu, had 2x raging bull burgers and neither of us were impressed. What's happened to the nice beef burgers? Now they're like cheap burger van burgers and swimming in fat, no wonder it came on a sheet of paper (which I hate!)
[added 19/06/21] glad the alma has reopened and that was the best brekkie I've ever had there I think. Everything was well and freshly cooked and tasty, service excellent and covid restrictions well thought out and adhered to. Happy to bump up to 5* today.
P. C.
Have visited there several times and it is always very good
b. b.
Enjoyed our meal ,very friendly Staff thank you.🍻
J. W.
My partner and I visited the Alma for a lunchtime meal and a drink. This being the first day with many restrictions lifted we weren’t sure what to expect and were a little nervous. We needn’t of worried, the staff, in particularly Liz and Yvonne were so friendly and positive had everything covered. We hadn’t booked but a they booked us in. We ordered our drink from the bar ( you can choose to do this on the app), and paid for our meal. We ordered burgers, veggie for me, served with chips and wedges. Our burgers were delicious and the chips and wedges were lovely and crisp. The whole experiencing was wonderful, both Yvonne and liz ensured we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The dining area was very clean and very well presented with a relaxing atmosphere. I highly recommend the Alma, we had a lovely welcome, delicious meal and friendly attentive staff who made you feel comfortable, which in the present undulating circumstances was wonderful. Thank you, we will see you again soon.
A. L.
my family and I come here often for events and holidays for the amazing service and food. the staff are amazing, and ben is always so kind to my disabled little brother. couldn’t recommend more:)
K. F.
Excellent service as always . Food was very good and staff friendly.
S. M.
Really great carvery and choice of three sizes, such a good idea. Staff very welcoming and nice old roomy pub. There were six of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed it, will visit again.
R. L.
My wife and I found the food to be varied and enjoyable and the service provided was excellent. Megan served us and was very polite, friendly and efficient, by far the best service I have received eating at this venue. I'd definitely recommend coming here
K. H.

As a person with food allergies that are not on the allergy bored. The lady that sat us asked me what my allergy are how bad the allergy are which 2 is the worst type of allergy reaction.
She then went to take pictures of the ingredients on all the packaging then ticked the ones that we new for sure didn’t have the food allergy in. Once this was done all my food was made fresh for me I’ve never felt so safe to eat somewhere that does take allergy seriously I would highly recommend this place for you to eat esp with allergy’s I would like to thank the staff member that well out of her way keep up the amazing job because people like me appreciate you going that extra mile for us so we don’t end up in hospital and so we can lead a semi normal life so thank you again and we will see you soon
F. L. M. i. a. B.
We regularly visit the Alma for breakfast. The staff are very friendly, there is a good selection of food that is always hot and a great price. Would recommend.
L. D.
I had Ben serve us today, despite his long day he was still lovely as ever and made our experience very pleasant
P. G.
Amazing, really enjoyed my meal and thank you to the man serving us!
N. W.
Myself and 3 others visited after playing golf locally... Breakfast finished at 11.30, but even tho we checked in at 11.28, the lady let us in, and we able to have what was in offer... Great service (it was a quiet period), good food as always, plenty of choice for drinks, ample parking and seating outside...
C. W.
Our family always loves this place best food brilliant staff especially Ben
A. S.
Reasonably priced carvery, meat was moist and tender, veg a bit bland and under seasoned, soda water is free which was a bonus, as was the weekday reduced rate on a bank holiday Monday. We enjoyed our convenient roast dinner!
j. p.
Had a large carvery which was quite good. I thought the pigs in blankets came with the large carvery as I heard some one ordering a standard asked if they wanted them on theres. They are not included but are only 99p for three. I was just disappointed that we didn't get any as I love them but I was not paying for them and queing again. Bloody long winded for an explanation about pigs in blankets but if you love em like me make sure you order at the till
j. w.
Good food, nice atmosphere and great service.
M. H.
Great service from our servers and chefs: Jack, Mike, Carol-Anne, Ben and Natasha for a party of 11 (including two children under 2). Food was wonderful, hot, served promptly and all at the same time. I had a Hawaiian Pizza.
Bar ordering for food and drink on a tab. Option for app ordering. They catered us well for a customer who had a severe nut allergy.
NB: Visit was on a Thursday evening during school term time.
K. H.
Megan was absolutely perfect, great customer service and nothing was to much hassles!!
P.
Great all you can eat breakfast, managed to order and get food within a minute of entering
M. C. -. W. W.
We popped into the Alma for a quick lunch. Right from the start the staff couldn't do enough for us. The Covid protocols were all being kept to and we felt totally safe. We wanted to sit outside and make the most of the dry, warm weather, the waitress said we would need to order on the app, neither of us were too confident doing this and she said it wasn't a problem, she would take our order. We both ordered the beef and horseradish baguette and chips. Because it was beef from the carvery it was warm, tender and very tasty. The chips were freshly cooked, crispy and hot. We have used the Alma many times and the staff have always been a credit to the chain.
S. H.
A nice place to eat, food is good, staff are lovely.
D. C. (.
Very good food. Lovely staff. The calzones are amazing.
G. T.
Lovely looked after us well after being let down by Toby Inn Bishop's Stoke Lovely food x
C. W.
Staff friendly, nice looking place and play park but carvery on the day we visited was questionable
D. M.
I visited today with my family party of 7, our table was ready when we arrived.
The manager was very welcoming and helpful. All staff we encounted were professional.
Will definitely be returning, thankyou to all
C. H.
Excellent service. Ben exceeded all expectations especially with the help of a gluten free carvery. Top notch customer service. Thank you. We will be returning soon.
A. B.
Today I had the vegan option and wow it was amazing. Our server was called Ben and he bent over backwards to make our experience a pure pleasure. Thank you Alma and I will be bringing my vegan friends to visit.
J. W.
Lovely meal with the family. Good food, excellent service and warm atmosphere. Carolanne was particularly helpful. Would recommend and definitely revisit. Thank you x
J. S.
Five star service from Ben!
Thank you very much, nothing was too much trouble!
J. K.
Great service from Ben and Carla. Food was really good as always. Would not hesitate to return or recommend the Alma Inn. Still getting used to the new processes sine the virus but process was made easier by ordering from our table through the app. Thank you. 😊
D. B.
Went as a last minute decision...was very busy but they managed to get us a table...and as for Rob who made us feel so very welcome it really did make our last minute decision feel like the 'right' one...many thanks...we 'will' be back very soon!!
A. E.
We ordered a takeaway in May; our first since Covid began. It was absolutely fantastic. We were talked through the menu on the phone by a very helpful lady called Yvonne and ordered a mixture of burgers. They were delicious 😋
B. Y.
Amazing food as always will be coming back
Cheers Ben 😂
G. S.
Good cup of tea. Breakfast selection poor, the beans watery and anaemic. Worst part was no scrambled egg offered, only fried. Same utensil to get bacon and sausages.
T. D.
Really good food and very reasonable prices. Also had a really nice collection of Christmas market stalls today for a special event!
P. O. O.
Very friendly staff and the service was great. The menu was comprehensive and the prices more than resonable. Lovely experience..💝
J. C.
We had a great meal, carvery was excellent and the pizza was amazing. Friendly staff.
Definitely worth a visit
E. W.
Visited 24th Oct 2021. 2 ordered carvery, really good, as always. 1 ordered calzone, wrong calzone made by chef so 2nd calzone was made, this turned up half cooked... member of staff, Rob, could not have done more to rectify this. We were given an apology, calzone removed from bill. 3rd time lucky, calzone turned up & was delicious.
I understand that sometimes things go wrong, they did their best to rectify issues. Although annoying, in the end we all enjoyed a delicious meal.
Have eaten here on several occasions, would still recommend giving them a try... and I'll no doubt be back for more!
Well done Rob, great customer service 👏
S. D.
Waitress Joanne was outstanding as we arrived with 7 kids in tow she done the upmost to cater to our needs
All with a smile on her face give this women credit.
Z. c.
Ben , he is always generous kind . Always keeping me and my family happy lovely gentlemen
R. P.
This place offers THE best breakfast for miles. Their all you can eat option is astonishing value and to be honest I can't understand how the place isn't jam packed every work day morning?
The choices are...bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, tomatoes, hash browns, chips, fried bread, toast...and all for under £5.00...and in an all you can eat package, coupled with refills of tea and coffee, this makes it far cheaper than a Wetherspoon breakfast. My breakfast, plus tea was £5.90...mushrooms are available at extra cost...I believe 60p.
Great value, masses of space and lots of seating. Builders of Southampton...start your engines...and start your day at The Alma. The best breakfast in town.
UPDATE: Be very aware of the day and times you visit here. Today...Saturday lunchtime, was like being in a creche. Far too many noisy children.
UPDATE II: Dropped in today and was told that ALL draught beers, ciders and lagers were off due to broken chillers. They offered me bottles of 330ml as an alternative at £3.00+ each. As an ex-publican of some 20 years, I was quite astonished. In my pubs, if this had happened I would have either closed, or offered bottles at the same one pint equivalent price.
I chose to have a Rioja instead. This is available in almost EVERY supermarket in the land at £5.99 a 75ml bottle. Here, in the pub with no beer...£5.80 for a 250ml glass!!! Or in Dick Turpin speak...
£17.40 a bottle!!!
Admittedly, they offer you their bottle for £10.99.
Truly sad customer relations.
N. H.
Stone house Alma Inn, stopped by chance with no table booked. Our great was very nice and they found us a table . Service was prompt and the food was hot and good. Thank you for the hospitality shown the my wife and I.
B. L.
Went to the Alma for the first time during this pandemic. Food was amazing, we didn't even have to leave our seats! We ticked what we wanted and got a very generous portion on our plate. Such reasonable bill too.
The staff were so friendly and the service was very quick.
You are doing amazing The Alma, we will surely be back again. x
L. H.
Breakfast was excellent. Such good value for money. Food cooked well and hot.
A. S.
Never been in before and had always had the impression it was a bit... ordinary. Actually very nice, attentive barman and good facilities and garden. Will go there again.
E. R.
Had a really nice meal there. All 6 of us enjoyed our meals and happy to say we will be returning soon
K. M.
We had a family breakfast and we enjoyed every bit of it and Ben was fabulous so kind and made sure we had everything we needed and was very kind to my mum definitely will be back
O. R.

A. R.
Nice budget pub. Good garden and selection of drinks
T. A.
Great staff, lovely food. All you can eat breakfast that has a great variety to choose from and includes Black pudding & fried bread. A hidden gem.
E. M.
Great service from the staff Ben and Megan, but there was a couple of things not available on the menu, but the food we had was amazing! Definitely recommend the carvery!
m. p.
Always come here great roasts but in particular Ben is amazing waiter always good attitude and happy to help us.
5 stars for Ben
F. I.
Never heard of this place we randomly drove passed it and decided to pop on for some lunch....they had a carvery on....it was lovely...staff very attentive and chefs very polite serving the food.. highly recommended
S. G.
Not too bad but the price reflects in the food
S. D.
A very comfortable family restaurant, with a bar (selling a range of achols and soft drinks) an ice cream machine with sauces available, an arcade machine for the younger kids, a carvery to self serve and a new pizza section to make your custom pizza!
I would highly recommend coming here, it has vegan options and the staff were happy to help with allergies and request (they were very friendly) they cleaned regularly and made us comftable.
They have good deals on the food options and is a great place to go for any meal your fancy.
I can't think of many downsides other then there isn't much outdoor space but overall it's one of my favourite restaurants!
S. T.
Great meal at The Alma. Thanks to Ben, Libby, Ella for looking after us. Always our go to place for family get togethers
D. R.
Visited here on a Friday afternoon with the family. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Food was fresh and hot.
Would recommend.
Thanks for making our visit so enjoyable.
D. K.
Wish I could give them 10stars. From reception to service all perfect, however the real deal is the burgers. Congratulations chef for that! Don't skip that place guys honestly.
N. D.
Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful, dont know how but they knew my mum VERY well....
...only let down is that the food is frozen food that has been cooked. Peas like bullets, carrots like mush and meat stringy enough to make rope...though there is lots of it.
Kids had the pizza and it was amazing, the wife had gammon which was to die for...maybe it was just poor on the carvery.
G. C.
Great food and staff as always thanks Daniel for your service.
A. W.
Good food great value nice staff
s. w.
Price has gone up slightly which we did not realise, however I think everywhere is the same at the moment, had a carvery and were lucky enough to be in the queue when the fresh new cuts of meat came out of the kitchen, was delicious Xx, worth the money, been refurbished and it used to be a bit grubby looking but it's not anymore, was very nice, will be going again Xx
P. C.
Lots of tables so able to sit lots of people. Fine if the staff can keep pace with demand. Understandable but really busy Sunday dinnertime.
k. e.

M. H.
Outstanding service from Ben as always.
Great atmosphere and good food from Almo's.
Regards,
Tony and the nippers x
K. B.
This is a reliable venue with the usual choice of carvery or home made pizza's. Good sized car park and quite a bit of room. My only thoughts were, soft drinks are more expensive than the beer, and as I was driving, I paid more. I suppose I could have just had water. Anyway, the carvery was nice.
C. S.
Absolutely brilliant and friendly service and also very efficient, myself and my partner just had breakfast and it was delicious, we will be back later today for lunch ☺️ See you soon!
Many thanks!
P. W.
Food not as good as the other Stonehouse in cadnam Hampshire
T. M.
Very quick service, lovely pizzas thanks Ben
A. B.
Amazing English breakfast and they do fry bread!!!
E. L.
First impressions on arrival were not good as it was so busy and the waiters were flustered. It wasn't made clear if we should wait to be seated or find our own table and when we were seated by the waiter he took us to a reserved table which had been booked by the people behind us in the queue. We were then reseated at a table that hadn't been cleared and told that it would be cleaned as soon as possible. Others in the queue decided to leave as there was nowhere to sit. If they had only held on for five minutes or so they would have had a table though as loads of people seemed to leave the pub all at once. We had obviously turned up during a mad rush but when we eventually had our table cleared and got our carvery meal it was completely worth the wait. The food was delicious, the best carvery I have had in a long time. The bar staff and guy serving at the carvery were lovely, so polite and working extremely well under the pressure and constant demands of their customers. If only they could be afforded a couple of extra table staff, I would have given them an extra star. We shall definitely return 😊
T. M.
Great food. Friendly staff.
Another great meal the following week too. Although we live less than 5 minutes walk to our local Stonehouse it's worth the 45 minutes drive to the Alma Inn as food always nicer ( not dried or hard ).
E. T.
Mid afternoon on a grey Thurs but Landlady and Crew very welcoming and positive. I managed the place 35 years ago. It was lovely then and is still so. Thanks All.
P.
I and my family had a meal here. The staff are always friendly here. The restaurant and bar area was clean, there is play area outside for the children, The menu is reasonable priced, but on this occasion we decided to have the carvery and out of 3 meats there was only dried out bit of gammon also at the end of dried out turkey no beef. Some of the vegetables were cold and some over cooked, the roast potatoes looked nice but tasted stale, the stuffing was so hard you would need a hammer and chisel. When asked if they had a more was told it's in the oven same for the beef. This maybe a one off but at the end of the day it is your choice if you eat here.
S. H.
Servers very polite but service quite slow. Run out of beef by 7.30 which was disappointing as it is excellent! Able to change my order to a,mac cheesy burger which was good.
K. Y.
Very efficient, Carla made the visit as it should be, no fuss no messing.
Ordered the calzone, absolutely lovely, my compliments to Daniel.
In essence,
Was..greeted ..seated .. calzone fully meated! 😁
P. H.
Nice food, amazing value for money. Ample parking. The car park is at the back - I got confused and drove round the front, which is actually a little lane!
M. K.
They did not have a dairy alternative for the milk for the coffee, that's a bit disappointing... The food was okay nothing out of this world but it was tasty
E. C.
Had a good meal here today fresh and hot just the way I like it
A. T.
Great place for a carvery cheaper than toby
S. M.
Ben was awesome 👌 super service
C. P. (.
Good value, never had a bad meal there. Nice staff
M. T.
Food has got much better lately. The breakfasts are now cooked and not the near raw stuff of before. I can only think quality comes and goes. A final note could they please have a lager like Fosters or Sam Miguel please as the choice at the moment is horrible.
E. s.
Yvonne served my husband and I today. Wonderful service, happy and cheerful. Food, as always, was delicious. We'll be back!
J. S.
This is truly Excellent. The food is great as is the selection. We downloaded the app and today our two kids ate for £1 each. Not bad when you think it is help yourself to sides. The Pizza is proper stone bake and the dough delicious. I would recommend this place as it wouldn't be out of place in the USA. We all know that if it would work in America, it is a fantastic food place. Bravo!
p. s.
ben is very chirpy and polite 😻
N. H.
Good service and quality food as always
S. W.
Amazing carvery for a great price! The man who was waiting on us was lovely, funny and kind, definitely recommend and hopefully will be back soon!
S. M.
The best carvery I've ever had without a doubt friendly staff don't bother with Toby drive up road and try these guys without a doubt the best .compliments to the chef spot on
S. “. C.
Great pub/eatery this is a stonehouse carvery. Which has a large car park and easy access for all ages and restrictions. The Carvery itself is well run and friendly staff. The food on offer is the usual carvery fare, but you have to watch what time you get there as the food is kept under hot lights to keep it warm and supplies do run out.
M.
We had a 55th wedding anniversary here. Ben the manager supplied a surprise class of bubbly for the inlaws. The staff are always polite and helpful and the pub is clean. It's a carvery so you get what you see. Pizzas are cooked fresh and are recommended. All in all its a popular family place and can get very busy.
J. G.
Staff were very friendly. The carvery food wasn't quite as good as it has been. The cauliflower cheese tasted very watery. The roast potatoes taste of stale. But the cooked food we ordered was very good. It's just the carvery that let's it down.
S. G.
Food was tasty from the carvery but barely warm and cauliflower and carrots were rock hard! Had run out of mash because no potatoes left! It took 40 minutes for our chicken burgers to arrive so we'd been there over an hour when we ate due to 15 minutes queuing to order. It's average at best but well priced so I guess you get what you pay for.
S. C.
Had a lovely pizza at The Alma compliments to the chef Daniel. Carla was friendly and very helpful. Will definitely return again 😁
A. R.
Went here for my birthday meal with my son and his girlfriend.
Served by ben and another lovely server who made a real effort to make us feel welcome and looked after.
Food was excellent well cooked and tasty.
Dident have to wait long which we were impressee with.
Defenetly worth another visit.
Thank you!
C. L.
This is a perfect example of low key, chilled out restaurant. I've been coming here for years quite regularly and yes the food isn't 5 star but it's still very tasty, good selection on the carvery, not overly busy so you can still have a chat and all at an extremely good price. The staff have always been very friendly and happy to help
B. L.
Nice setting, good tasty carvery with a choice of Pork, Gammon, Turkey and Beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and various vegetables including mushy peas all at a very reasonable price with comfortable seating a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The toilets were clean and tidy and ample car parking, so all in all 5 stars..
K. F.
We visited early Saturday evening. Two adults, two kids. Nice sized interior, garden with seating, not in top notch condition, some garden benches were a bit ricketey. Well done out inside, plenty of 4seat tables. There is a menu but carvery or pizza were very prominent. We had carvery which was pretty ok. Pizza smelt really good. Service was a bit slow, prices were pretty middle of the road. We paid £40 to £50 for the four of us including fizzy for kids beer for me, coffee for Mrs, and a couple of desserts. Wouldn't have a problem going back.
R. L.
Me and my mate now and again go for buffet breakfast the food was good although disappointed if you wanted mushrooms you at to pay extra for them
s. h.
Great Carvery, amazing value and very good , thanks to Ben for top service , we will be back
D. B.
Fantastic meal. Worth visiting.
Back today as one of first customers with my family after Alma allowed to open after lock down closure.
Wonderful meal.
All staff were amazing especially Ben. They had a good syetem on to order and get your meal. We'll done to you all.
B. W.
Went for Christmas Dinner great service from start to finish would recommend
K.
Great service and food. Friendly staff. Would highly recommend!
R. P.
For £43, 4 adults and my daughter had a roast dinner and a round of drinks.
Kids under 10 eat free on a Sunday so if you have a large family it's amazing value for money.
The food itself was actually really good. The only downside was you had to queue out the door to get your carvery. I suppose that only high-lights the popularity of the pub, especially on a Sunday. For the price it's a small thing I can deal with.
The only negative aspect is the dinning area and toilet's isn't that clean.
M. W.
Fantastic food here today. Little bit longer wait for food to come out than normal due to being extremely busy.
K. C.
We had a lovely experience celebrating my nans 81st birthday at The Alma this evening!
Service was fantastic, Highly recommend!
S. W.
Surprisingly good, I enjoyed the roast and the kids enjoyed their pizza, pasta and salad, so it was win all round.
I would recommend this place although the main downside was deep fried potatoes instead of roast, what a shame.

Good value food, friendly staff ….clean. Worth a visit.
J. A.
Tables and bar area were clean and tidy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Carvery was excellent food and value for money. Those in our group who ordered other options werent quite as good (hence 4 star).
K. A. (.
Absoloutly love this place. We regularly visit for their all you can eat breakfast which is normally fresh and fantastic depending on times you arrive. We have experienced their carvery and also had family down from cambridgeshire which we had our christmas meal here with little notice booking wise. Great menu for my dad who is coeliac and a wide variety too.
R. A.
Lovely atmosphere, nice feel about the place Daniel was great and most helpful. Easy 5 star rating !
P. W.
The Carvery was fresh and the BBQ pizza was immense. The manager and staff were very accommodating and friendly. Thank you and stay safe.
J. W.
Nice dinner nice company enjoyed it thank you
C. M.
Excellent service, good food, nice environment, very good price, decent sized car park.
J. R.
Convenient carvery at reasonable price
M. P.
The food is great every time and the staff are so nice
K. G.
As A party of 8 (family travelled 500 miles and I suggested The Alma that I had never been to before) it was too late to book online and the website suggested ringing but there was no answer after 3 calls till cut off. so we took the risk and just turned up at nearly 5pm there was space although we had to eat outside it was a lovely day luckily. Sadly there was no meat left apart from Turkey and we didn't get the 4 amounts on the plates as there wasn't enough but everything was perfect. We were warned when paying so we decided to still go for it. Sadly they took the beans and gravy away so when the children went to get extra there wasn't alot left and stuff was taken away. But the food was lovely prices affordable and would definitely go again and book in advance earlier so that there would be more selection etc. 100% want to go again and book earlier so there is enough.
T. D.
We held my mum's 70th birthday dinner last night for 30 including some kids. We had the upstairs area to ourselves, the food was lovely, service good and staff brilliant. When originally booking Ben was so helpful and efficient and also Holly. I did not get the name of the lady in charge last night but again was very efficient. My mum and all attendees had a lovely time. Well done x
J. D.
Came across The Alma a bit by chance on our way home from holiday. The place looked spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We were just going to have a lunchtime snack but decided to eat from the carvery as it looked delicious and were not disappointed...and what great value! I spoke briefly to the manager/owner who was very friendly. The Alma is certainly very different to most country/rural pubs in decor and style but it's brave of a company to try something this different to the run of the mill type of operation. We will make a point of returning.
A. G.
Carvery and a basic additional menu, but can't beat it for value for money. Drinks very reasonable too.
P. H.
Lovely place for an excellent meal, good variety on the menu, tasty food at value for money prices, served by helpful and friendly staff. First class service and an enjoyable experience.
L. B.
Lovely menu fab garden
A. D.
Food and service is always good
J. R.
Came here for a meal with family. Kids were having nuggets and adults were having the Carvery. The nuggets were sent to the table and we had to go to the hot plate to get potatoes and veg. Just seemed a little odd it wasn't accompanied by chips?
T. S. S.
The Alma has just re-opened thankfully it wasn't closed too long.
Love this place, it's a great price and good food too.
Still coming almost every week. The potions are bigger :).
Use the app great offers on food and drinks always saves me a packet.
Staff have always been good my daughter favourite place.
A. D. D.
Lovely breakfast, nice atmosphere and very friendly staff.
M. F.
Nice carvery and the food was really good value and well priced. Be warned if you opt for the chocolate fudge cake, the slice is massive. Outside garden area to with climbing frame for children. Easy parking too.
S. K.
We waited about 5 minutes to be served. Staff were filling carvery but didn't acknowledge us or smile. I thought this was rude...there wasnt even a sorry you had to wait. I was very disappointed. Luckily the food was nice
S. H.
The carvery was the best ever. Then we had Banana Split it was lovely. The food was well cooked plenty of vegetables to choose from . The puddings there was a lot to choose from. The staff were very helpful and friendly
K. D.
Friendly staff with effient service. Lovely cooked dinner for at a reasonable price, what more could you ask for ?
l. k.
Don't let the winy sh*t bags on here tell you this is a bad place, perhaps the food isn't 5 star but neither is the price. If you just like tasty food at working class rates then this is a good place. Plenty of tables and the foods cooked in a good time. Allways been clean every time i have gone there which is spanning over 12 years.
J. B.
Reasonably priced carvery, but sometimes limited choice of meats. Nice meal when I visited.
R. H.
A decent Sunday roast, very generous portions, piping hot and a good range of vegetables, gravy and sauces. Very busy early afternoon so do book a table. Because it was busy it was a very loud atmosphere and there were a lot of families with noisy children.
S. F.
The staff were friendly and attentive and the carvery was excellent value for money and most delicious.
M. T.
My children and myself came here for dinner, we ordered carvery, pizza and ice cream. All the food was flawless and we received great service. We will definitely be coming back again.
A. P.
Good value very tasty carvery.
Great food great value smashing pizza.
s.
Went here for Easter meal with family. 6 adults and 4 children. The menu was extensive but we all went for 3 course Easter menu for £11.99 and couldnt go wrong! Great value. I had southern fried chicken strips to start, really nice. We all chose carvery as main, kids carvery was only £3.99. Adults normally is £6.29 (can go large for extra £1.50 massive yorkshire pud, sausage and extra meat) was all really nice and cooked well. The beef was well done but still soft.
They even did an easter egg hunt around the pub for the kids and they all got a decorated egg with mini choc eggs and sweets in. Completely free which I thought was a great touch.
Kids enclosed play area outside. Couldnt fault it for the price paid. :)
S. R.
See below for changes original review removed.
Now taken over and the price increased. Vegiterian option is not very good. My wife had the veg roast and there was hardly any vegitables. The roast potatoes looked ok but were awful. Been there a while. Chips were the same. The Yorkshire pudding I could not cut. Now I would say it is a poor option even for the price.
C. P.
Had our wedding reception there 20 April for 48 people what a fantastic time everyone enjoyed their meals brilliant food and service excellent a brilliant time you were all great all the adults and children said how lovely it was thanks to all the staff especially Sarah ,Ben and Carol Anne. Thank you again Brian and Crissy. We will be back

L. B.
Had a really lovely Christmas day meal with all the family, food was excellent, and all staff were very attentive to our needs. The whole Alma experience definitely helped to make our Christmas day all the more special, thank you to all.
J. C.
Great value for money. Staff are smart, efficient & friendly. Only reason it's not five stars is because of the time it takes to get seats. That's not their fault as clearly it's a liked & popular pub. Although you can still box your meal & take it home with you if you live close like us. Please don't tell my wife. She thinks I've been cooking. Sshhhh.
J. M.
Great good as always, Ben is always friendly and welcoming! Highly recommended
s. h.
Megan and Ben always give 100 % . Very friendly and helpful would not have breakfast anywhere else

Food was lovely. Ben we found to be very abrupt to the point of being rude
T. G.
Good value, nice food. What you'd expect for the price. Staff and service good.
n. m.
Fast service and very comfortable place. Plenty of parking outside. Food has always been great. Been going there at least twice a month for the last 7 years.
M. M. S.
Lovely carvery, but main menu is strange and a bit weird. Outside very nasty with a ton of smokers and there are also a dozen chavy little brats , so I advise that you sit indoors.
L. S.
Excellent service found the staff very helpful
m. M. m.
My partner has Coeliac disease so eating out can be a bit problematic. However we are at the Alma Inn, lower Upham and I must say we were impressed!!! My Partner informed the chef of her plight and was promptly asked if she would like them to cook her a whole new meal. This due to the meats on the Carvery being glazed and not Coeliac friendly. They even made up some gravy especially for her. 5 stars for the service and the customer service. Definitely going back again
A. d.
Came in and had a super bacon & cheese burger with brilliant chips would recommend
A. D.
Normally brilliant. There were three of us. 2 meals awesome. My daughters meal fish was raw. Mash wasnt cooked and a hair on the fish....
p. b. C.
Cheap and cheerful, friendly staff who didn't fuss over you too much. Food was hot and tasty. Never gonna win awards but we got a good meal at a reasonable price.
L. L.
Food and service were great. Definitely value for money 😋
S. L.
Good value carvery.
J. G.
Friendly, great pizza and cavery. Plenty of options and a free salad with most meals. Beautiful location close to Marwell. Children's play ground is excellent and it's in a 100 year old farmhouse. Will go back when in the area.
C. S.
Went out for a covid meal with the family to the stonehouse carvery (the Alma) good to see the staff of the Alma doing their best to keep their patrons as safe as possible with all the restrictions in place the food was great always a good meal every time I visit and the staff are very welcoming and friendly
J. H.
No vegan cheese For the vegan pizza. Roast potatoes so crispy and dry there was no potato left in them, I asked for more but they still hadn't replaced them after I finished eating. Carrots had no taste very waterer. Peas had dried out. Would not go back in a hurry
Y. D.
Nice and spacious and very friendly
D. F.
Great meal & service by Ben will definitely be going again
T. A.
Good food for a reasonable price, best to reserve a table, but not always necessary

Dropped in on the way home from Marwell. Fed 3 of us for under £30 now absolutely stuffed thank you very much.
P. B.
Fantastic food a great roast. Service was great. Thank you
B. W.
Servis good except miserable chef! Food was ok, I've had much better carverys and the sprouts were inedible. Good for youngsters but i wont rush back.
S. k.
Good was great, pizza was awesome and our server Megan was amazing! Thanks for everything.
D. &. M. G.
Food and service were very good, Ben and Natasha’s service especially!!
E. M.
A fab roast, our family go to. Does what it says, great carvery. You need to choose the right time to go though, so expect queue at Sunday lunchtime!!
M. C.
Just had dinner at The Alma Inn 23/12/2 and had a great experience. Service and food was Amazing would definitely recommend this place 👍😁
D. W.
Carvery was OK, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Beer (doombar) was rather ordinary. Prices very inexpensive though.
M. G.
short staffed, tables needed to be cleaned and emptied more often. food was nothing to shout about good or bad, play area good but again tables outside full of empty glasses and plates, watch out where you sit if you can find a place as tables old and broken
D. W.
Have just been to the alma and can honestly say “ what a place to eat !!! , we had pizza that was extremely tasty and the staff were pleasant, helpful and in these difficult times are doing an excellent job !!! Well done 👍
S. B.
Lovely food but not happy when you see a presumed customer going to the food bar and just taking food from a dish with their hands and then walking out. The food is eaten by many people so is offputting when you see someone help themselves with it seems no regard for anyone else eating there
S. R.
Must recommend the all you can eat breakfast as great value. Usually have a breakfast every couple of months. Only gripe is the toaster which with no practice throws your toast on the floor for you!!! And the mushrooms if you choose to pay the extra for are tinned button mushrooms and taste funny :( great for little kids though as you are allowed to request a spare plate and just feed them off of yours. Only thing that bothers me and is not the business' fault is watching people loading their plates right up and wasting it. Definately recommend
P. M.
Very good service all round by staff
S. P.
I went on a weekday at tea time: the staff were friendly, the carvery was delicious, there were no queues and the prices are very cheap - you can get a lot of food for your money here. Highly recommended.
D. D.
Went for a roast after work, so got there about 5.45, unfortunately most of the veg had dried up, the stuffing was so dried up, if I'd dropped it on my foot, it probably would of broken it lol, probably great roast during the day,
S. L.
Great food and really helpful staff
A. D.
Food spot on. Service spot on. Place was clean, friendly and inviting! Will definitely return.

Visited for breakfast buffet all you can eat. Place is clean and good prices. Food is good but you have to pay extra for mushrooms and coffee?? Should be included
O. L.
Solid carvery meal, the guy who looked after our table was really friendly as were the people at the food bar. Great prices.
M. C.
As far as covid protection goes this place ticks all the boxes . Roast dinner was amazing but £4.29 for a slice of artic roll was a rip off.
R. M.
Lovely meal with helpful staff, good COVID precautions/measures in place 👍
D. M.
Mediocre food for a mediocre price. Can't complain the place is clean enough and the staff are fairly nice. You won't get a gordan ramsey dish but if your just into normal good food you'll get it here. Frequent it regularly.
M. S.
Great service and food, would recommend and will come back again 😋

would almost say 'over the top' with their Covid regulations, but they are certainly ensuring safety of customers and staff - so cannot really fault them
Friendly staff and had a lovely carvery meal
