Amazing service and the food oh my goodness the food.....Amazing....the beef the brisket the taste quality and presentation... bit pricey but definitely worth it, the loaded chips never seen so many choices. Wouldn't say my type of music and atmosphere but go early for the food, in fact it was quiet when I went with younger friends during week and I was spoilt for choices so I bought 2 meals and took one home boxed and bagged....good choices of soft drinks for a pub.....cream soda.....just loved it even though came in a can, but glass and ice supplied......these guys don't look like they can cook but wow......

Amazing value vegan and meaty burgers. Lots of flavour with fresh ingredients used in these burgers. The largest and tastiest onions I’ve ever had. Meat eater enjoyed the meaty tasting vegan burgers. And unusual to see bagel bun - which was different and also gluten free !! Generous portion of fries. Go pick it up for the best value.

Amazing burgers here- had a gluten free vegetarian burger which was very tasty and their loaded fries were delicious. Didn't book, just turned up and luckily managed to get a table for 5 people. I like how the pub is decorated and they played some great music. Just nice to have an alternative place so central in Southampton, rather than travelling to bevois valley to go to the hobbit/shooting star. Those places have a big outside area and dance floors, but sometimes you just need a quieter place to have a drink on a Friday night.

I have heard good things about Sunday roast at The Black Phoenix. However, I was left disappointed after trying it. There were no sauces available (apple, cranberry and so on), very limited gravy sauce and meat although we had booked a table (so we would have expected enough to eat). I had a try at a couple of Sunday roasts in Southampton and would therefore not recommend this place for that in particular. Better to check out for The Cricketers and The Dancing Man.

Amazing pub, great selection of craft beers, really friendly staff. It's Lgbtq+ friendly which is great as there's not many places in Southampton for them to go. Kinda metal/nerd bar, great asthetic and approachable atmosphere. Also the food is unreal 😍

Staying down in southampton to get a tattoo done, was looking around for some alternative/LGBTQIA+ friendly places to chill, get some foor and drink and this came up on the lists. I reccomend this place to anyone who needs a safe space to chill. Lovely staff, great food, great music, amazing well prices drinks and a very clean and welcoming establishment. Even with my social anxiety i felt very comfortable here and would come again and again if i were more local. If you are alternative/lgbt+ in the area i definetly suggest popping by and supporting this wonderful local small bussiness. If i could give above 5 stars i would.

THE BEST BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD! There's not a lot of vegetarian options around Southampton, but I am incredibly happy that I found The Black Pheonix Pub. I had our meals delivered by Uber Eats, and the food was still piping hot! Pictured is the 'Lucy' (Veggie burger topped with cheese and peanut butter in a pretzel bun) and I thoroughly recommend it! I'd happily eat it again! We also ordered the 'Frazzle', Vegan Loaded Fries and Cheeso's (I put one of them inside the buger) and everything was wonderful!

This was an epic pub! There were so many people on a Thursday night having a great time making for a brilliant atmosphere. By far the best part of the pub was the super friendly bar staff. For only two of them dealing with the busy pub, they were so kind and nice to talk too! Great decor plus a safe, comfortable and inclusive vibe. Small pub, love the decor, noise carries quite abit however so could hear everyone's conversations around us. We stayed for one drink and decided to leave. We would come back at another time when it's quieter to try the food perhaps.

Really good. Food was fantastic (I had the Alabama burger with garlic chips and onion rings) very well done and focussing on taste rather than portion size, and they have a good set of veggie options. Costs a bit though. Beer is more craft than real ale, so I had to hunt about a bit for beer I liked, but most other drinkers would be happy. If you like sweet pint cocktails, this is also the place to go. I liked the atmosphere, 90's alt rock music, and general feel. Nice to note that they go out of their way to be inclusive, stated policy is to use whichever bog is appropriate. BiTC is also good for this.

Really lovely vegan food. Onion rings were great, the burger was incredible and the chips were good too! It was rather busy when we visited but the server was really nice and gave us the option to wait for a table if we wanted. I didn't catch their name unfortunately but they were working front of house on Friday 30th April at around 8pm. I would 100% recommend for people looking to eat vegan but fancying a pub burger. Really great place!

Super lovely staff. I've been here a few times eating outside in the last couple months -- every time has been delicious, I've accidentally ordered way more food than I could finish, but their vegan loaded fries are just SUPER delicious. Went for a Sunday roast. Very chilled out sexy vibes with great music if you went to secondary school in the late 00s/early 10s - Avenged Sevenfold galore! Server was pretty blank and unengaging but got the job done very nicely - sort of what you'd expect in a rock bar to be fair. Food was more than underwhelming. Everything was bland and highly lacking in seasoning - aside from the piece of chicken, which although tough was actually seasoned nicely. Parts of the veg were clearly frozen and cooked to within an inch of their life, when eaten they had the texture of ice cream. If you're serious about food - especially if you haven't gone for a roast in a long time, find elsewhere.

HOLY SMOKES! Honestly one of the best pubs in southampton and the food, drinks- the whole shebang is brilliant. The atmosphere is welcoming, homely and if you like alternative places- this should be at the TOP of your go-to list. I refuse to drink anywhere but here and the Phoenix's sister pub, The Hobbit. I love this place and completely recommend the cocktails, and the food- especially the garlicboys!

Fantastic burger bar, a variety of options, all of which can be GF. Vegan requirements also accommodated. Sides are also brilliant. They've got Thatchers Haze for cider drinkers. Nice pint size cocktails for less than a £5r (cheaper at happy hour), great accompaniment to burger and loaded chips.

Exceptional service and great food. Last night we ordered from the restaurant through Uber Eats and surprise surprise, it never arrived. As we were completely unable to reach Uber I called the restaurant and within five minutes of them looking into it they called me back and offered to replace the order and deliver it themselves. While this is great service it in itself would not warrant a 5 star review, however the quality of the food is also exceptional. Me and my wife regularly eat out and we are always more concerned with quality than price. As such we have eaten at many of the top restaurants around the south of England and it has been quite a long time since I've had a burger so good. While I won't be using Uber Eats again, we will 100% be going to eat at The Black Phoenix next time that we have friends in town. Perfect food and a perfect service. What more could you ask for?

Went to check out The Black Phoenix for Sunday roast and can only rave about how delicious it was. Full of flavour, the chicken was quite different to what you'd expect in a roast dinner and it was absolutely incredible and amazing value at just £11. For an extra £2 you can upgrade to include cauliflower cheese, which in my opinion is well worth it and probably the best cauliflower cheese I've ever eaten! Vegans are catered for too with a proper seitan option (not just a generic nut roast!). Good choice of drinks with something for everyone and a mix of craft brews and local ales too. All in all a lovely experience with excellent staff - so good we ended up staying there for the whole afternoon! Would definitely recommend!!

The Black Phoenix Pub is your slightly alternative but very friendly pub in the middle of the Bedford Place area of the city. They cater for Sunday lunch seekers, vegans and meat eaters alike. Zach on the bar is a friendly addition and he can easily recommend you a great tipple.
