Reviews of The Empress Of Blandings
O. S.
A lovely pub, spacious and clean. Good choice of food for adults and a decent children's menu. The starters were generous, we had a baked cheese and whitebait. The lamb was really good and the vegan aubergine curry was fine.

Worth leaving the M27 for!
Fantastic food, cosy and clean pub with nice garden, good staff, good seating, good ales, interesting decor (also apparently recent change of management, if that makes a difference/you are a local).
Had broccoli & stilton soup, whitebait and Duck salad. All delicious, good value, good portions.

Today was the first Christmas Day I haven't cooked for well over 3 decades and we went to The Empress Of Blandings!! It was amazing. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The staff were absolutely brilliant I can't rate them high enough. The pub had been decorated very tastefully and there was festive music playing in the background so at least you could still talk to each other. I would recommend this to anyone. The whole experience was wonderful. Thank you ALL so much and I hope you got to have a great Christmas yourselves. Merry Christmas 🎄🥂

Went on Saturday for a birthday meal out. We had the best time and were served by a chap with a great sense of humour (didn't catch his name but he had just moved down from Cornwall). He kept us entertained all night - hats off to him.
Try the homemade scotch egg - soft yolk and delicious. The steak frites was also a stand out dish.
We have already discussed coming back for Sunday lunch one weekend soon.
Keep up the great standards everyone!

Great food and very cheerful helpful service. All covid res adhered to and we were able to choose a table. If you have the flat iron steak ours came very thick and quite rare. But beautifully tender and very tasty.

Went here for dinner. Big car park, easy to find off the main road. Seated quickly, service was reasonably timed, not quick but not slow. Food was really nice considering wasn't too expensive.

Nice venue for a party. Friendly staff. Clean. Good Car Park.
A secret function room in heaven (lot's of stairs to carry gear up lol).
Pictures attached show the blank canvas and how I transformed it with themed sound and lighting.

We have been coming to the E of B for a few years now and today didn't disappoint. The decor is amazing and really gets you in the Christmas mood. The staff were all very welcoming and the food as always was fresh hot, tasty and plentiful.
Social distancing was not a problem as the pub was empty. Such a shame as it is a lovely place to meet up with friends. It didn't worry us as we were able to have a leisurely lunch and sit and chat for a few hours.
Will definitely not be leaving it another year to visit. I would recommend you visit and find out for yourselves.

First time in the empress. Nice welcome. Had not booked. Easy sign in under covid. Easy app to order food a drink. Two meat eater having the vegi options. Option to sit outside which did as loverly evening. Insides clean and tidy. Happily use again and hope to. Food really good.

A lovely pub with flag stone floors and wooden beams. Beth and her team gave us a really warm welcome. The food was well presented and really nice ,they haven't been there long and I truly hope they do well.

Great pub with good food and the ever essential sunny beer garden! Very friendly staff, definitely recommend👍

I visited The Empress of Blandings on Thursday 21 November 2019 in the evening, a weekday during term time. I was with two other people. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the restaurant, which was easy and led me straight to the right place.
I parked in the pub car park right outside - parking was easy.
The restaurant comprises of one fairly large sized main dining area with plenty of tables with full table service.
The team were very friendly and attentive and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and enjoyed the experience.
I enjoyed the house burger for my main course with a side order of onion rings and a sticky toffee pudding for my dessert. The food arrived hot, was well presented and tasted really good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. The food was good value for money, I paid around £30 for two courses and three drinks including a hot chocolate.
Overall I really enjoyed my visit and would visit again.

Lovely place, food and service top notch, new manager that took the time to come and speak to us and tell us about the live music coming up, will definitely return and recommend

Lovely place to spend a few hours.... Food is delicious, fresh and will satisfy any hunger. The coffee is tip top. Grab a chair and watch the works go by.

Lovely meal with lots of options on the menu which covers both vegetarian and gluten free choices. Delicious food and great service with friendly staff. Would recommend.

Lovely pub with friendly staff, delicious ales, fantastic food!
Right next to the New Forrest and indeed Paultons Park (theme park and home of Pepper Pig World!).
Child friendly with crayons & colouring book for kiddies, changing area for babies, and child menu (though would be nice if a little dessert were included with the main).
Also doing their bit for the environment by ditching plastic straws and throwaway plastic cups for kids, now have paper straws and washable Ikea-style kiddie cups.
Good parking too.
Enjoy!

Amazing meal, very big portions. staff are very friendly and polite. Great value for money. Will definitely coming back

Went here after bad customer service from another restaurant very near by. We're welcomed when we explained what happened. Excellent service lovely food . You have new customer thank you
J. L.
Thankyou for looking after our group of 20 today, all the food was excellent, looked after very well. The value of food very good. We all came away very happy especially my husband the birthday boy. Thankyou once again
R. H.
A perfect pub experience.
Quick, friendly service. Great menu, food was delicious & the coffee was hot (unlike a lot of places!). Nice pub with a relaxed atmosphere. Looking forward to the next visit.

Comfortable and tasty food with good service. Had Korean tofu and would recommend it!

The Empress of Blandings is a fantastic venue, ample parking, beautiful food and A* service. They hosted an event for us and the whole place was laid out perfectly, all the staff were so friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. Absolutely faultless. Cracking pub! Highly recommend!
A. F.
Went here for the office Christmas dinner 2019. For starter I had the 'Chicken, Duck & Red Onion Terrine - Toasted brioche, red onion chutney' followed by the roast turkey main with all the trimmings. For dessert I had chosen the 'White Chocolate Cheesecake - With raspberry coulis
VG Orchard Crumble'.
The starter and dessert were sublime, as was the 🦃. The sprouts were a bit overcooked but I guess people might moan if they're al-denté.
R. F.
Wonderful pub to stop for lunch and have an absolutely delicious salmon pie with all the mash. The staff were friendly and approachable and we really want our visit.
D. D. M.
Lovely staff .. went with friends . All had a bit of food . Came quick . Food service and quality was what you would expect from pub meal . Pub looks nice. Will definitely come back .

Fabulous place, staff welcoming, friendly.
Good food, lovely atmosphere, plenty of parking and nicely dog friendly.

Had a wonderful meal and live music. Great night had.

Stopped when passing by. We had a lovely family meal. Kids meals were just as fresh and well cooked as the adults meals. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, food was amazing and the pints were just as tasty. Highly recommend if in the area or passing through.

We stopped here for dinner on a Saturday night. The food was outstanding, really top notch. The staff were friendly and helpful too. Good drinks selection and a good ambience topped it off.
A. J.
The meaning of life is somewhere in the middle of their lamb medallion. The meat was just perfectly done. Slightly cheewy but just bursts in the mouth. So were the potatoes and vegetables. The gravy had a unique flavour which went well with the dish.
The atmosphere is like visiting a friend. The staff are very warm and friendly. I liked the vintage decor. It was like stepping back in time.
I thought about the lamb medallion hours after getting back to work. My co workers visit the Empress of Blandings for special occassions and now I understand why.
If you are on the fence, just go.

We chose this place to meet up with some cousins. The food was ok but nothing particularly special. It was also very noisy as there were two tables nearby that let their young children run round chasing each other. I'm not against children by any means but I did think the parents should've kept them under control.
The staff were very nice but were slow returning to our table to order desserts.
Our visit was neither good or bad.

Definitive Country pub, Garden, Carpark, and more choice of drinks than you can shake at stick at! 46 items on the Food Menu, including proper Vegan and Vegetarian meals. All delivered by wonderful people that make it a home from home experience.

Really accommodating to our running club. Many thanks. Good looking food.

I am a single man looking for love. On several occasions I have used and always recommend the Empress of Blandings to meet a lady for a first date because I know the welcoming atmosphere and fantastic food served there. For 10 years the service has never failed to be the very best. I will continue to visit there hopefully for many years to come. As I have a 20 mile drive to get there I am hoping that one day I will be driven so that I can also do justice to a Fursty Ferret or 3 😆
R. D.
Very good food, prepared to order. Spacious pub and car park.
G. C.
We are fans of Hall & Woodhouse food but for the first time the food was not upto standard. We have now visited and eaten in 9 H&Ws.My pie meat was tough and mash dry as though it had been hanging around in the oven or not enough butter/ milk.

Booked in for a meal on the 3rd of July for 4 people. It was a lovely evening and nice peaceful atmosphere. Impressed with the cleanliness...hand sanitiser as soon as you walk in and seated quickly. Menu was great, lots to choose from, quick to serve up the drinks, starters...mains. Happy to help staff. Rebooked again in a few weeks. Lovely.
D. S.
Good food. Great atmosphere. Reasonable price. Plenty of parking. Pub garden. Spotless toilets. See sign outside!

A change of management has put a new light into a lovely pub. Pleasant staff can't wait to go back again.
R. H.
Good menu for both meat/fish eaters and vegetarians. Very relaxed, friendly and helpful service. We got served quickly when we needed it and left alone when we didn't.
J. R.
Lunch for 4 today. Warm welcome. Choice of table in or outside. Good selection of drinks. Fish dishes excellent. Good menu offering. Friendly staff and management. Excellent Covid compliance. Felt very safe. Enjoyed our first time in a pub/restaurant since lockdown. Would recommend.
S. G.
Food was excellent, restaurant was very clean and service great.
A. T.
Lovely meal and excellent service from staff. Attentive and polite. I have eaten here many times and never had a bad visit. Always a pleasure to visit. Thankyou.

Stopped for a drink and had some coffee and cake.
Nice place, manager very good.

Good food at a reasonable price. Good service with tables well spaced for Covid security. Would definitely visit again.

A really welcoming pub, went for a meal and the food and service was superb.
A lovely relaxing pub and not hectic in the heart of the New Forest.
Will definitely be returning soon and hope to be a regular haunt.
R. G.
Really nice atmosphere, sat on comfy chairs in front of the wood burning stove!

May 2019 Wonderful food and great service. Had roast beef at lunch which was beautifully soft but thick with a great taste. Great portion size. Fruit crumble brilliant too.
Went again 30.5.21 for outside Sunday lunch. Again brilliant food and good service.

We have been to Empress for drinks a few times and always liked the atmosphere. We visited on 27/08/20 for the first time since lockdown. We booked a dog-friendly table for 8pm and when we arrived we were served quite quickly for drinks but then sat waiting for 35 minutes and no one came to take our food order. In the end we just paid up and left without ordering food. Very disappointed in the service, it's like we had been plonked in a corner and forgotten about.
Rating 3 stars as I know there service isn't usually that bad and they did have good covid measures in place. Hope to visit again when things are a bit more back to normal and hopefully will get better service.
M. H.
What a lovely place for a nice meal on a cold rainy night. The staff were welcoming from the entrance, were they explained the set up for following covid rules. Service was quick and efficient and the food was really good and arrived fairly quickly. Would not hesitate visiting again.
s. w.
Service and food fantastic. Got our meals quickly and everything was delicious. Great customer service, would definitely recommend
N. D.
A hidden gem of a pub, serving great food and local beer. Good customer service too, all i will say is perhaps they were short staffed as the service was slow. We sat at our table at 6pm, had a starter and didn't get our main course until just gone 8pm. The food was good, so I'm not knocking the place, just be cautious if your in a rush.
G.
After several weeks of serving food again our service was very slow taking over an hour for the main course to arrive despite pub being virtually empty mid week. Food was very nice when it finally arrived.
R. M.
Great to be back visiting after a long absence. Lots of measures in place to help with COVID-19 and Social Distancing. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent service, slightly reduced menu but still with plenty of choices. Food was some of the best I’ve had here (it has been variable in the past). My party had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch.
R. W.
Lovely setting with Badger beer so always a winner for me.
We had food that was a burger and ham egg and chips. It was very nice and not over sized.
7.
Large, open airy comfortable pub with lovely log fire and mellow jazz playing in the background. Friendly helpful staff and very reasonable prices for the quality of food.
Ideal stop off after walking the forest with your dog. They even have doggy ice cream and biscuits to keep your dog quiet.
A gluten free menu which is quite extensive.
M. G.
Great place to go,friendly and food is good
D. C.
Visited the restaurant for a friend's birthday meal. The food was good & the staff were very accommodating with special menu requests, (I don't like peppers & asked for these not to be included in my starter). So 5/5 for the food. However, as the restaurant wasn't that busy, the service was a little slow. There were only 2 serving staff & by the time the main course plates were removed & the dessert menu was provided it was after 10pm, a little late for puds. Apart from that, it's clean & a pleasant restaurant. Would visit again as the food was very tasty.
M. J.
Really welcoming pub in all aspects. Greeted promptly and politley on arrival. Great atmosphere and decor with lovely chilled tunes and ambience. The food was absolutely incredible. The presentation and flavours were perfect. We both took the recommendation from staff for the Spiced Red Lentil Daal with roasted Squash, cauliflower chilli, coconut, corriander, mango chutney and jasmine rice and they were not wrong. I cannot fault a thing although my partner wishes there was a bit more rice. Great selection of drinks and food with reasonable prices all round as well. The staff were knowledgeable and refreshing. I do not often find a pub I can compliment so much or recommend so highly. Well done! Massive compliments to your excellent chef, staff and managenent for getting it all right! A really enjoyable experience on all levels. We will be back and be sure to recommend the place with confidence.
L. K.
Food was great. Lovely environment for meeting friends as you are not sitting on top of each other!
S. R.
Stopped by for a midday snack. Had a fish finger cob with triple cooked chips. Absolutely delicious and def the best chips ever. Strongly recommend.
g. C.
Great pub and amazing food.
J. J.
Had a fantastic meal there. All three of us enjoyed our mains and just about had enough room to squeeze in a desert each. Staff are super friendly and excellent at their jobs. Can highly recommend this pub. We went early evening on a Thursday and it was not too busy. Very reasonable prices.
V. A.
Good value for money. You need to book early otherwise they run out of selections
M. N.
Went out nice meal with husband as we have been here a few times. Service and staff were lovely. The food was very average. I had the falafel marinara which frankly was inedible and I took it back. My husband had the fish and chips which were fine.

We have family quite local to this restaurant and so have been quite a few times. It is a very attractive place to eat with a nice layout and bar.
Unfortunately they seem to be perpetually short of staff and advertising for more and the service is slow. Last time it was so bad I complained (which is rare for me) only to have the manager come over and inform me that it wasn't slow and that I was wrong. Eventually he realised his mistake (the new waiter took the order but didn't put it through) and apologised but we were really shocked to be spoken to like that.
The food has always been very good and they have a decent variety of drinks as well, however we certainly won't be going back any time soon.
S. K.
Stopped here on spur of the moment on our way home from the beach and was very impressed. Lovely vegan curry and great children’s choices. Excellent customer service, we will definitely return!
P. B.
Food was excellent with good portion sizes at reasonable prices. The place was attractive, warm and pleasant with friendly staff. My only slight quibble was service was slow all the way through but they were hosting a large 80th birthday dinner.
I. A.
Rather good place, don't get confused with the size of their portions, small appetite is still a good portion! Food is good, the atmosphere is great, good place full of polite staff and perfect for a winter date by the fire. I took my family here, they are from a different country and it was a good first taste of englis cuisine.
H. S.
We arrived as a table of 13 last minute on May Bank Holiday Monday 2015. The service was fantastic, really friendly and also with a good sense of humour considering our unplanned arrival. We could not fault the food, especially the children's as it was as good as the adults, not the usual dried up chips and beans that you get in other pubs. We have been again since (table for 6 @ 5pm Friday night). Practically every table was reserved but they fitted us in as we were early diners. Again, a really great dining experience, food excellent and better than your normal pub grub! Very impressed with the dry wit head Bar Man, nice bloke, good head of house. Would recommend!
B. P.
Had an great meal here with the family. The service was really friendly and attentive. The food was tasty and well thought out.
The atmosphere was relaxed and we were comfortable eating here with our small children after a day at Peppa Pig World.
We arrived before 6 and were found a table, but I suspect the tables are harder to get later without a booking.
R. M.
Went here after visiting Peppa Pig world to take advantage of the Eat out to help out scheme for dinner time.
Whilst I appreciate everyone has to restrict and mitigate as much as possible for protection against Covid, having to clear my own table was a little odd.
The meals came out wrong, many items missing off an already extremely limited menu, not allowed to the bar yet was not asked for a second drink, Waited a long time to get any attention and order our meal.
Overall food was of next quality anyway.
T. U.
What a fantastic place to eat and to have few cold ones. Food is absolutely delicious staff is great! 100% recommended place for anyone
J. D.
We stopped off here for a spot of lunch. Whilst the atmosphere was good. There were a few downsides. Firstly there were only two staff on, on a busy Saturday lunch time. Secondly my food wasn’t exactly as stated in the menu. It was missing the chilli sauce. Whilst that doesn’t bother me too much I do find it concerning considering one of the staff on duty said they had just been taken over. I wasn’t as impressed as I have been in the past. Please improve.
J. F.
Thank you so much to Nico and all the staff for providing an excellent venue and amazing buffet for our Mother's wake. We were a small party of 22 so the private area within the main pub was more appropriate than the function suite. We didn't feel rushed and the staff worked round us very efficiently.
We were treated with great sensitivity throughout and were able to spend time with family and friends without intrusion in a relaxed environment. A difficult day was made much easier. Thank you.
J. H.
I go here several times a year and love it. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and attentive staff. It's dog friendly and they have a jar of dog biscuits on the bar for you to give your dog. Lovely selection of food and locally sourced products. Plus they have the full range of Badger Brewery beers which is an absolute win for me!
S.
We enjoyed a special occasion at this inn. A lovely interior with good parking facilities. We received a great welcome from the staff which was first class. Leah, one of the waitresses, really made our afternoon with her warmth and just generally looking after us really well. I think the best service I have experienced. The food alas did not match her and her colleagues efforts. It was really very ordinary I had a greasy very thin battered cod with hard as nails peas and a less than generous portion of chips. My message to the company is don't skimp on the ingredients and match the quality of your staff and you will have a winning restaurant.
C. B.
The food was outstanding, highly recommend southern fried chicken burger 10/10. Very friendly staff and nice decor
N. T.
We have been many times before and had lovely meals but wonder if it has changed hands as the food tonight was not great. The vegetable and chestnut Wellington lacked chestnuts and seemed to have largely butternut squash. The tomato sauce seem to be out of a jar by the flavour. Not pleasant. The ice cream however was lovely and good quality. Maybe just a bad dish. Lovely setting though and great service.
M. W.
Lovely pub with loads of tables, unfortunately the table service is very slow possibly due to lack of staff, however the meal I had was delicious and worth the wait.
r. d.
Very nice pub ..good food and service...highly recommend for a visit. Homemade desserts a big plus..!

This restaurant/pub is one of the best I've ever been to in the south of the UK.
The food is delicious, and the menu is quite extensive.
They provide immaculate, speedy service, and the staff are friendly.
The decor is beautiful, and it gives the feeling of an old upmarket rustic pub. There are bookcases with old interesting books on, and funny quotes painted on the walls.
There is a bar area of the pub, which has been done up very nicely, but the majority of the building is restaurant seating. There are also seats out the front of the building, and a garden out the back.

Experience was good pity planes dont run on time

Came to the New Forest for my Anniversary /Birthday break with my husband and 2 children. Wanted to find somewhere other than the hotel to eat on Saturday night (20th), and found the Empress of Blandings. Great choice. We had to wait a while for food, but as we were told this was the case it wasn't a problem, it was worth the wait. The South African gentleman looking after us was amazing, not only with my children but with surrounding customers as well. My kids had the fish goujons which they devoured, my husband rib eye steak and myself fish & chips, all very nice. So the food & wine were lovely, but the most outstanding thing for us was the South African gentleman serving us!! Sorry I don't know your name, but Thank you!

It's a reasonable pub with function room upstairs for meetings separate to main bar areas. Staff behind the bar could be a little politer and more attentive too. Sadly the soft drinks cost far too much to enjoy more than a couple. Didn't try the alcohol as driving. The meals are tasty and well presented and they do accommodate special requests as it's cooked fresh so if you need to order gluten free or FODMAP friendly food it's not a problem (although I did feel as if I was being awkward even my apology for being different was ignored where as many cafes would make me feel welcome and no issue not my fault kind of attitude). Only other fault was the function room was far too hot as it is in the roof of the building and with the safety catches on Windows limiting how far they open and no air conditioning it was sweltering and uncimfortable for many of the group. I'm not sure if the staff had even considered opening the windows and drawing the curtains or blinds shortly before we arrived and it is a regular booking a d the pub wasn't too busy to spare someone 10 minutes work.
J. P.
Warm comfortable atmosphere. Friendly bar man but needed more staff as service quite slow. Food was ok..nothing special. Veg soup was very peppery for mother-in-law and they offered to change but we were still charged. Couple of chairs bit wobbly
RIoja very nice.

This pub is about three miles away. I arranged a meeting with a friend who was pasting on the M27 as the roads run parallel. Its a good location, with a big gravel car park
The service was good. There is a choice of inside and outside seating. I will be going back.

Just a few minutes from Paultons park but please do not let this put you offer. It clearly accommodates for all customers from family groups to romantic meals. We were presented with a cosy and inviting environment from the outset. The food choices ranged from typical gastro pub food to something a little bit different. Each meal in our group of 6 was recieved in good time, was reasonably priced and was delicious. If only we lived closer as this is a place we would definitely visit again and again.

We came here with our 2 year old daughter during a week holiday in the New Forest. Staff were very friendly, food was great - the best we've had out for a long time. Really nice place, would recommend and visit again.

Love this pub. Quieter than a lot of others in the area. Gorgeous atmosphere yummy food!
L. G.
Interesting pub/restaurant. Ideal if you are a P.G.Wodehouse fan....fascinating if you aren't! Good, professional staff. Great varied menu of non alcoholic drinks...including Mocktails! Drivers usually find the usual one non alcoholic lager & orange juice...but not here. Good selection. Large car park.
L. J.
Friendly, relaxed and excellent food
J. T.
Not bad but nothing special. Staff vanish as soon as food is served. Good parking. We will try again, everywhere deserves a second chance. Nice food in general.
J. A.
Super. Very clean (a really nice change from the vast majority of pubs we visit) and professional - great customer service from staff and manager who actually care about what they do...food looks really nice ...we must book a table asap! Great location too.
R. S.
Can’t say thank you enough!
We had a family meal here after a funeral
The staff and the manager were brilliant
Specially the manager went out of his way to help in every way he could!!
Thank you
J. C.
I chose to come here for my 50th Birthday celebrations, the food was really lovely, the atmosphere was perfect, big portion size, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be returning very soon. Thank you.
K. R.
Very nice lunch for 8 but the service was not up to scratch. Waited ages for starters despite pre ordering. Again, long wait for mains and then again for dessert. Lunch took 2.5hrs. Would think twice before booking again
E. G.
Nice hall and Woodhouse place, good badger ales
T. R.
OK, it was busy on account of it being a lovely July day, but it was a very disappointing lunch experience. It all started well with orders taken and after a surprising wait - as we were the first of a few to be seated after the pub opened - when the food was delivered. The steak and tanglefoot pie was minuscule with little content, the broccoli and carrots were so 'al dente' as to be raw. The side orders of garlic flat bread were completely forgotten and had to be chased. The 10 minute wait before being told the ice creams would be another 5 minutes was unforgivable. All in all, a less than great experience this time compared to all previous visits.
l. c.
One of the best pubs in Southampton area
T. N.
Food was great, service was excellent. Waitress humoured us when we asked her for a favour to help calm our young overtired daughter down. Really lovely and quiet atmosphere as well.
M. S.
Really cosy vibes, food was lovely, staff were friendly.
J. W.
Had pork belly which was very nice - however, there was no crackling with it which I thought was integral to this dish (like it is everywhere else that I have had it). When I asked the young waitress about it when asking for the bill she mentioned something about keeping it for the Sunday Roasts!? Nobody asked us how the meal was at all.
A. B.
A lovely pub based on P G Wodehouse's books. It has lovely wood beams and flagstone floors.
The food served is very good and they have a wide choice. The pie and fish and chips are very good.
M. A.
Nice food. Cram the seating in though especially if you take your dogs. Wouldn't go here again though as a little pricey and the seating arrangement was not great. But a nice pub and food was ok.
a. s.
I am visiting my daughter in this part of the country and she brought me to this pub for a meal which i really enjoyed the place was really nice and clean and tidy with very charming staff the food was very good and I would reccomend this place every time. Full Mark's.
H. N.
Great place for a lunchtime seminar. Excellent service. Room set up on arrival. Easy access to motorway. Great food and good value for money. Staff helpful and friendly. Would use this venue again.
T. E.
Great food and service
I would recommend this place. The food was good quality with plentiful portions. Tasty well cooked food from both main and specials menu and staff are attentive but not intrusive. Definitely going back.
J. W.
Food is great but service wasn't so great this time. We were almost forgotten about and didn't get to have dessert as nobody ever came to collect our plates and check how things went. Still, saved some money by having dessert at home, I suppose.
J. S.
Well not very impressed with the service at all. All very young waiter/waitress clearly not very well trained!! But on plus food was very nice altho our son disliked the Fish and it was bit chewy - shame. .... as to say we didn't leave a tip!!!
J. C.
Always love the empress of blandings, has great food, good specials and has a really nice atmosphere. As with all their restaurants they do really well in the decor and let’s the place have such a nice vibe. A large car park helps too!
E. T.
Nice and spacious with plenty of tables so not always necessary to book. Good choice of food, friendly helpful staff. No J20 or bitter lemon hence the 4 stars
R. H.
Great Sunday roast here. Good quality food and great sized portions and value for money. Really nice walks around and they welcome dogs with treats on the bar.
M. B.
Had a great meal, they had very good vegan options. The service was very good as it was extremely busy because it was just before xmas. Our waitress was very pleasant & polite.
P. W.
Excellent food, all cooked from fresh. Bit of a mix up with the bill but they did not quibble. Service excellent and a really nice pub. ❤️❤️
J. H.
Our regular Hall and Woodhouse. Lovely surroundings and always good food- though can sometimes suffer on the service front at busy times. Would recommend booking for busy periods (7:30pm, Weekends). Good value for money.
I. W.
Excellent quality and service. Good value. We had crayfish open sandwich and the fish finger Cobb sandwich and they were both delicious.
M. B.
Really nice decor, great food, very friendly and helpful staff. Pity I can't give 4.5 stars. Not really a fan of badger ale but plenty other options to choose from. Only minor gripe was slow service with food, but it's excellent so worth the wait.
N. S.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, they looked after all of us (5 adults and 3 children) very well, highchairs are available. Food was very good and priced reasonably. Great place to unwind after a day out in paultons park
C. A.
I popped into the Empress on Monday afternoon for a spot of lunch - I am pleased to report the Empress serves food all day. The interior is wonderfully spaced and it seems that the pub hasn't forsaken anything traditional for the sake of clinical contemporary relinquishing heritage for MDF . It was dark but this added to an olde worlde feel and the cosiness accentuated by lit candles on each individual table. The selection of ales , beers and wines were impeccable and you really are spoiled for choice. We were greeted with and warm, friendly and genuine demeanor from the lad behind the bar who seemed to actually care - the customer service was tip top. We ordered our drinks and took time over what food we wanted . In the calm, cosy environment I noticed the pictures around the walls reflecting the people and places of a bygone time - all local to the area. This was a lovely touch.
The food arrived at a perfect temperature hot enough as it should be but not piping so you could tuck in straight away and the plates were warm - a seal of approval that the quality of service is decent . The quality of food was superb and the taste delicious. The presentation was also very well done. Half way through the gentleman asked if we were o.k and was everything to our liking and it most certainly was. The balance was just right and we felt really looked after. All in all The Empress is a triumph in food, drink and courtesy - the key ingredients of success in running a decent pub. The balances and contrasts were beautifully done making eating out there 'special'. One leaves with contentment and you feel pleased that there is such a decent place to recommend to friends and family should the question be asked and my response would most definitely be without hesitation. This really should be a blueprint for all public houses throughout the region. Thank you.
N. R. (.
Lovely pub with friendly staff and a delicious menu. Great selection of drinks too. Always get drawn back here when wanting a good evening meal out.
A. A.
Nice relaxed atmosphere and good food
O. P.
The welcome, considering the current situation, was warm and friendly. Service was efficient and quick and we enjoyed the food. We will visit again!
J. W.
The first problem was, that I will order a "whole rack of ribs" and they haven't got this meal. Then I choose Fish and Chips. It was very good and the prize is normal. Tip: For visitors out of UK, you must pay directly on the bar!!!
F. R.
Its a lovely place and the food was delicious however the service was terrible. Had to ask twice for a child's menu, Twice they forgot to bring orders out, forgot cutlery and when desserts arrived at the table we still had the plates from the main courses.
Y. W.
Nice food. Regularly go here.
S. P.
Big pub on the little-used stretch of the A31 that runs parallel with the M27 west of Soton.
Decorated in the typical Hall & Woodhouse style with plenty of timber, tiling, stripped pine tables etc.
Very extensive menu which goes way beyond the normal pub fare of burgers, beer-battered fish'n'chips etc. Food prices seem to be inflated by about 20% above 'normal', in common with most other New Forest pubs.
But the food was good and the service friendly and efficient.
Plenty of car parking space close to the pub.
G. M.
Lovely patio on sunny day and a cozy interior to enjoy one of England's best pies. Their signature pie won a medal at the 2017 British Pie Awards but the pie of the week fit the bill too
A.
Food was really good and the pub is amazing, they have a good selection of rum and booze, service could be better
J.
Warm welcome and excellent service. Food was very tasty and came out fast. Beautiful place too. Couldn't rate highly enough.
L. B.
Lovely lunch, ate in the restaurant great service. Had a specials menu. Easy stop off the M27 near the New Forrest, huge car park perfect for our motorhome
A. P.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough, have been comming here regularly for 5 or so years and can honestly say I have never had to complain, question anything.
The staff are highly helpful, always make you feel very welcome and on top of this the quality of the food is exceptional..
M. E.
Very nice pub, good food but portions a little smaller than I expected, had an issue at the beginning of evening but manager sorted satisfactorily
D. L.
Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, it wasn't very busy which was nice. Food was very nice, although the caeser salad (cold) took longer to prepare than a burger and chips.
T. H.
Beautiful food and with friendly staff and a cosy feel inside it ticks all the right boxes. Plenty of parking so perfect for a meal or drink whilst out in the New forest
M. C.
Hi yes I do like the Place very much, a lovely place for a drink with my family and friends and a lovely setting for just a drink, staff are well Presented and friendly, as you walk inside the feal of the Place is very good and it's just so clean and warm and it's such a lovely atmosphere within the Whole Place, you can enjoy nice food and excellent value for money and excellent service for all ages, especially when you can enjoy a relaxing night with your family and friends, great food and good choices for a meal, it's a great place to enjoy your time with your family, I love the Place and I hope to visit the Place again soon. Compliments to management and to the team working there for making my time with my old School friends and I am sure the one Person I have not seen since we all left Bartley Secondary Modern school who is over here on holiday with his wife and who was in my Class and has Emigrated to Australia for a few years but now living in New Zealand and living with his wife and family, Part-time Being a Nurse and living and Breeding Red Deer and has at least 300 of them, he's got a lovely big Dog that will help round up the Stags and the Hines, he said that Venison is the Best Red Meat for its full of Iron and Vitamins, he Sells the Meat as well Breeding them, he is very much a nice man and has a really good New Zealand Accent, it was lovely to see him again, he said that he won't be coming back to England to live anymore and he is going back on Saturday flight from London Gatwick to Bangkok, Thailand, Portugal and Porto Rico, etc, the flight takes at least 23 hours and my best friend has been invited out there with her Husband for a Holiday. She is a excited and hopes her husband will be joining her, it sounds like a good Place to Live in.
E. N.

R. P.
Always get good food and good service at The Empress, though you may want to book during busy periods as it can get pretty packed. The burgers always go down well, as does the find selection of ales.

Lovely pub, great service and very nice food.
G. G.
Good food, drink, ambience and helpful staff somewhat undermined by our food order not being input until we chased it up half an hour later!
Money off was offered instantly so I'll put it down to a one off human error.
J. A.
Food was good. Prompt polite service. Don't take cash.
A. S.
Enjoyed a nice Sunday lunch. Nice staff. Knocked a star off as the service was very slow. In.all I would recommend it.
