Reviews of The Gamekeeper
S. B.
A great find whilst on holiday. Searched local pubs for a quick dinner nearby. It was just past 8pm and whilst others stopped food at that time, this pub was 9pm and they booked a table for us straight away. I took my 10 year old daughter and young dog - both got a lot of attention. They are very dog friendly and also good choice being I am vegetarian - especially Sunday roast. There was a singer performing and she was really good. Staff were very friendly. Food was great. Had such a good time, we booked for a Sunday lunch the next day and had the same experience. As we are nearby often, it will be a regular choice. I would definitely recommend.

We only ended up here because the pub we had intended to use has stopped offering food. But we are now glad we have discovered this out of the way gem! Excellent home cooked meals at a sensible price, good beer (Wadsworth's), and friendly service. We will definitely continue to come here when we meet up with our friends as a half way point, and only wish we lived nearby!
I. B.
Lovely atmosphere, really welcoming. We were staying locally at Spot in the Woods for one night for a short break and this pub was walking distance so we popped in for some food and drinks, really reasonably priced for food and food quality. Will definitely visit again if in the area!

The car park was full when we arrived on a Tuesday evening and we regretted not pre booking. We could see it was very busy with all the tables taken but the very friendly staff suggested we sat down in the relaxing area while she got our drinks. Luckily for us a table became free and we were able to enjoy the amazing food and very helpful, delightful staff. Absolutely delicious - thank you. We will certainly be returning but will book next time.

absolutely cracking, dinner was filth.incredible selection of lager, i was spoilt for choice. nice clean and tidy environment, gorgeous garden. And all round splendid experience. i would recommend for anyone that wants to eat out somewhere nice. And i will be coming be coming back .P.S Kerry Wolfe has done it again.

Lovely pub, great food, nice atmosphere, exceptionally friendly staff.
We were staying in a nearby hotel and fancied a pub supper. Because they have no functioning web site, (generally indicative of poorly managed companies) and a Facebook page which appeared inactive for some years, I almost decided to go further afield, but we thought we’d look in and we were glad that we did.
When we arrived, there were many steam vehicles and machines in the field, which was fun. We had the Pie of the Day which was Chicken, Gammon and Leek, with chips and salad. We really enjoyed it, very tasty. I had the scrumptious Apple Crumble with cinnamon and custard. My partner had the Champagne Sorbet which was very nice and refreshing.
There were some promising-looking real ales, but I can’t drink alcohol now. The only low/no alcohol option was Heineken, which wouldn’t be my first choice.
We enjoyed the meal so much that we came back again the next night, Saturday. Due to a large party eating at the rear of the pub, they were only able to serve pizzas and salad, but they were good pizzas. The dessert menu was also available.
There was a good covers band, but it was painfully loud in the small space. We go to a lot of gigs and festivals and this was louder than most, even when near the stages. I already have severe tinnitus, presumably from too much loud music in my younger days, and I don’t wish to worsen my hearing loss. I felt sorry for the musicians and people close by, who may have that to look forward to. Luckily, I had ear plugs with me and this bought it down to a reasonable level.

Have had a lovely weekend in village. Ate and drank in the pub a few times while staying. Food had been superb and staff were all fab and so welcoming

Love my local pub! proper class atmosphere. Beautiful black hound behind the bar, I think I overheard them call her Tia. Food is absolutely astonishing and the staff are so lovely. Chef Keith Frampton is absolutely world class and I was over the moon. Kerry Wolfe, land owner, has really outdone herself here.

We hadn't been here for some years and I believe the name and ownership has changed but we were really impressed by our whole experience from the start.
A very friendly lady took our booking on the phone and reserved us a table in the dog friendly part of the restaurant. Our food was excellent and we all found several options on the menu that we fancied before changing our minds and ordering from the specials board. I requested a slightly different side and they did this for me with no problem.
There were quite a few people in watching football on TV but it was a nice atmosphere, the beer was excellent and we all enjoyed our meals. Everything came out together and correct, all the staff were lovely to us and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Many thanks for a great evening :)
V. N.
Nice pub with lovely outdoor seating. Doesn’t do any steak on Mondays and Tuesdays if that’s what you’re looking for though!
D. C.
Absolutely fantastic....Great food staff and beer ....recommend to all ...Will definitely be back

Always a great place to go. The Sunday roasts look and smell amazing and I've heard nothing but good reviews. Not had the chance yet but it's definitely in my plans to have one! They're always so friendly and welcoming especially towards my 2 year old. Very friendly, family pub with fabulous locals.

Had an enjoyable evening meal here with friends recently...good food, reasonable price and friendly helpful staff.Would suggest a bit more of a veggie choice..Best garlic bread in the country.
J. B.
We were blown away by the fantastic service at this lovely little pub! Both bartenders were just lovely and so helpful!
We arrived on my birthday for a bite to eat and the kitchen was closed. They were so kind and reopened it just for us so we could eat something! Honestly, how lovely can you get! Thank you so much for that!
We ended up eating with another couple in the same boat and it ended up being a lovely little evening!
I’m sorry I didn’t get the names of the young lady and gent that looked after us but please know you made us so happy and we have told everyone about your fantastic service! We will pop by to say hi when we travel there again… but no fireball next time!🥴🙈
Best wishes Jo and Tom x

An absolute friendly pub from other punters to the staff. The food is very tasty and a good potion. Always good live bands and a beautiful garden to enjoy summer time ☀️

Visited yesterday for a couple of drinks and snacks after a doggy walk. Ordered the nachos which were really nice. They did forget to bring out the dips but luckily I remembered and just asked and they brought out straight away. A friend had the garlic bread which was almost like a little pizza and was super garlicky which was great as that’s what you want with garlic bread and husband had cheesy chips which were a good portion which cheese throughout and not just on top. Will definitely come back after another doggy walk.

Jolly good ! Popped in for a recci & a bite to eat prior to a function nearby in a couple of weeks time so need to eat & go early.
Food was great, I had a chilli which was fast, home cooked & tasted really good. Looked stunning topped with their homemade spikey nachos & I thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were helpful & so I've booked a table for my return visit.
The place is colourfully decked out & I felt most at home. Well done The Gamekeeper & I look forward to seeing you again soon,, thank you 😊
L. M.
Food is lovely, live music is varied , rock, pop, jazz, most Sat s.

Firstly, the staff were lovely and helpful, the pizza was welcome, but a little bland, but the beer was great. The menu was pretty limited though.
It was the pub itself that felt like a let down. Set in a beautiful village on the edge of the New Forest, it looks like a characterful old pub from the outside, but sadly any heart it had has been ripped out and replaced with Sky sports and minimalism.
P. C.
A local country pub with a warm friendly atmosphere and staff. Called in a few times on our way back from our cycling trips. The food was lovely and not too expensive the Bira Moretti was delicious!
The staff were great as was the Pizza!
Stone baked, thin and crispy.
There's a large outside seating area at the rear next to the car park, even lovely comfy sofas! They have live music but unfortunately we missed that.
Great place well worth a visit... or two... or three or more!
N. B.
Good value for money. Traditional pub meals. Friendly service.
A. m.
Stopped here after a recomendation from a local cycling club. Decided to order food, good fast friendly service.
L. H.
Good traditional pub food but also includes paninis and stone baked pizza. Does takeaway too. Nice indoor and outdoor facilities and plenty of parking round the back. A lovely local that is just as welcoming to new forest visitors.
A. S.
Lovely pub, which opens up round the back into the beer garden. Great service and selection of drinks. Food looked good but unfortunately kitchen was closed when we got there
T. O.
Very great service tonight. Pizzas (there not on the website menu) were really good.
B. R.
Lovely pub with really friendly staff
& locals, nice beer & food the landlady Kerry made you feel really welcome
Would definitely come again and recommend
m. m.
great find this....amazing food and the brownie was to die for..
great place to go in for a quiet lunch date definitely try it for diner one-day...
S. H.
Nice pub, plenty of space for parking, sitting outside and kids to play. The food is really good, average price, good selection of Ales, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The building is old and full of character, there is nothing else in the area, so either nominate a driver or walk it in.
M. C.
Lovely gatropub great food
C. D.
Had a great Pizza and Chilli meal with my wife. It was Saturday night and the live music was really enjoyable. The staff were all friendly. All in all we had a great night
C. R.
Probably the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. This is high class class cuisine, worth the wait as everything is freshly cooked. The flat white coffee afterwards was also delicious. Absolutely cannot fault this place and will definitely be returning.
P. H.
Great local pub. Weekly live music, good beer.
I. N.
A very lively place on a Saturday night, but in a good way. Food was very good and as described. The staff were friendly and attentive. The beer was excellent. It definitely had more of a "local" feel than we expected but to be honest it was a nice change to go somewhere where younger people were "being younger". (from a couple of youthful 55 year olds)
M. J.
Nice local pub. Only had drinks. Staff friendly and nice atmosphere.
N. B.
If you haven't been to the gamekeeper for a while it's well worth a visit. The pub has undergone significant refurbishment in the latter half of 2018 and this was my first visit since. The pub now has a modern vibe and welcoming decor albeit I understand some may feel it's lost some rural pub charm ... It's a touch sterile. On balance though it's clean , modern and an improvement on a pub previously needing some TLC. Food was decent and the layout is good especially the booth tables which strike a nice balance with privacy. Menu could be a little more extensive, but most people should find options. Food prices are in the mid range bracket. Overall if you haven't been for a while recommended for a post refurbishment visit.
L. M.
Lovely little pub. We had Sunday roast and was very good quality food and well priced
c. e.
Staff were very friendly. The food we had was delicious, hot and of a good sized portion. However, there was a limited choice of what was available on the day we visited. Good atmosphere with music at a reasonable volume. If we lived nearer we would return.
T. C.
Excellent pub, found the place after a long walk to be welcomed in and offered a good selection of ales. Decided to stay for dinner which was an excellent selection of locally sourced food, well presented and delicious by friendly attentive staff.
Will definitely be coming back!
J. J.
Very friendly atmosphere and an excellent range of beers and ciders. Food is fantastic. Brilliant menu. Highly recommended.
N. W.

Z. W.
Gorgeous county pub. Staff were very accommodating, food fab!
M. H.
First time in there since refurb and very impressed with what the new owners have done. Two of us had the Gamekeeper pie, which was steak and ale, on the lunch time menu and was very tasty and a proper pie and not a dish of meat filling with a pastry top. Will definitely go back.
J. N.
Visited this pub during a trip to New Forest.
Took the standard fish and chips which had a generously sized and well cooked fish. The dish also came with coleslaw and salad.
Really enjoyed the meal and the staff were friendly.
L. I.
Lovely local pub. Clean and modern interior. Friendly service. Good quality, reasonably price drinks and food.
J. J.
Been modernised since we last visited which I don't usually appreciate. Nicely done though. Only had a coffee (very nice) so can't comment about food but pleasant barmaid and felt comfortable.
j. C.
Made welcome as soon as we walked in the door Great night out with all the family great service food was well presented and lots of it “thanks as we have a hungry family nice “
P. T.
Probably the best New Year's Eve party for years. The Gamekeeper staff and DJ were excellent and they created a fantastic atmosphere. Well organised and brilliantly executed! Thank you , we really enjoyed the night.
A. E.
Very much a locals pub. Felt a little rough round the edges with grubby loos, carpets etc... That said, some of the food was really good! The staff were nice. Perhaps a little overpriced for the quality.
Z. W.
Friendly attentive staff. Lovely atmosphere. Very busy, all booked for a Saturday night.
J. G.
Visited for the first time yesterday evening. Lovely pub.....excellent food.....and very friendly and attentive service. Will definitely be back.
M. M.
Had a great roast . Price was good. Staff very friendly and also dog friendly to boot
L. L.
Roast was nice but a few minor issues. The mint sauce- but sure if you're making it yourselves or buying it but the mint to vinegar ratio was really wrong. Way too much liquid- so much so that it just ran off my lamb without leaving any mint on it. It also tasted way too much like vinegar and not enough like mint. The gravy was also really watery. The food itself was great, but those two issues let it down as a roast dinner.
A. C.
Fantastic! As a former professional chef of 16 years I know good food when I taste it. And this is great!!! Never had a bad meal here and the staff are amazingly friendly.
K. S.

G. B.
Surpringly good local pub. Food is extremely good and well presented, staff lovely and it was live music night which was excellent!
A. E.
The wood burner was nice and added warmth to the pub. Good service, but the food was expensive for what it was and a bit overcooked.
C. G.
Wasn't keen on the chicken in the curry. Otherwise great place. Lovely staff
P. B.
