Reviews of The Giddy Bridge - JD Wetherspoon
D. R. R.
One of my fav locals, I always like to come here as it's quieter and cheaper than others - the staff are great and it's pretty clean for a wheatherspoon! 😂
A. F.
Went 20mins after opening for breakfast. It hadnt been cleaned from the night before, a few straws on the floor, sauces on the shelf with some dry lime slices also toilets had literally no loo roll! Besides that, table was clean, and I was bloody starving!! Food arrived quickly, hot and was lush. Coffee and tea is unlimited all day. Staff swear alot... not always ideal for little ones but was quiet and enjoyed it.
T. B.
Good price of drinks and nice place.
A. D.
The place is always quite busy has a nice atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and the food service quick. There is the normal drinks selection and usual pub menu.
Disabled access is great and I was able to bring my assistant dog and was made to feel very welcome and inclusive.
Great place for casual drinking or meeting after work, or just a quick pint.
B. W.
Good pub quite busy at times think the outside cud do with more comfortable seating but other than that good pint good buzz about the place too, fast paced pub
M. C.
Staff were delightful, drinks were yummy, the chicken tiddy nibbles I got were a tad overdone as was the steak I got the first time I was there but otherwise absolutely faultless
C. P.
Usually a good place to start but this time was served by a young unhappy girl that didn't seem to want to be there u don't need that when u just walk into a place then on top of that had to watch the staff struggling to ask 2 people leave was meant to be a quiet beer.
M. T.
Goto pub for a good meal. The food mostly comes in time and is never over cooked.
Only issue I have is with the tap water which has a metallic taste, lucky it is diluted with ice.
The Staff is a mixture of emotions, some seemed drained but many were rather enthusiastic.
c. b.
Great food, staff very friendly, with a packed pub due to a concert at St Mary's.
S. S.
I visited this place in July as a guest of family in Southampton.
Nice, quaint place, we enjoyed a full breakfast.
Food was served hot and went down a treat.
Not just a pub but having looked at the menu other hot food served too.
Would definitely visit again and I would recommend it to others.
But, having said that it could do with a update 😁😁
J. m.
Lovely place in just off London road . Great place for a drink of many kinds and some food. . Clean tidy . Food a and dring up or downstairs. Or even out side as you watch the people go by. The pavement is wide. Get down their and grab a bite and your tipple what ever that may be.
A. B.
Friendly helpful staff welcoming and pleasant easy access from the street even for wheelchairs, could do with downstairs toilets, some of the people struggled trying to get to the upstairs toilets. The food was good at a good price with free refills on certain drinks. Could have done with a few more chips and the tea had a funny taste but other than that worth a visit
A.
Great Spoons, staff are really friendly with good food and great selection of ales plus the Wetherspoon price tag what’s not to like. At weekends it can get busy at the bar but we downloaded the App and had table service all night at no extra cost.
J. M. (.
I doubt this review is needed as anyone who's been on a night out know what Giddy's is. It Is a dirty spoons where everyone goes to have pre drinks on a night out and can get really crowded.
I've never been during the day but I'm sure it's as good as any spoons.
D. C.
One of the better Wetherspoon's. Lovely food, good drinks, friendly service. Highly recommended.
N. R.
Went or order pizza in the evening and they had none. Was a Friday night. Should have. Bar staff were pretty quick but didn't seem very happy
J. H.
It's a Wetherspoons... And in an area full of students. So it tends to be pretty run down and sticky at all times. But hey, it's cheap so what do you expect. There's definitely nicer Wetherspoons but if you're going to The Gid you're not fussed by appearance
J.
Always busy, the drink selection is good and offers value for money, as does the food ... Which may explain why it's always busy!
S. L.
Classic Wether Spoons feels. Great value drinks and chilled crowd. The food was a little underwhelming. Efficient and fast service. Nevertheless, we'll be back. There's sitting up stairs and outside front and back top. Ticks alot of box's.
D. P.
superb pre match for Southampton v coventry .superb food and drink but so disappointed by not being allowed in after the match due to home fans only. they were quite happy to take thousands of pounds of Coventry fans pre match then saw it different after the match .
S. G.
Great value breakfast just as you would expect from a Spoons.
d. b.
Bit dated nowadays (not been in a weatherspoons for about 3 years) but probably due to covid , food was ok seemed to be more staff than customers (which isn't a bad thing).
G. D.
A good place lovely atmosphere cheap as chips for drinks love visiting the place only thing is would be nice to have a sit down smoking area instead of a little tiny area
B. H.
We go for a curry and a beer and on this did not disappoint food and service was great.
However unsurprisingly given the past two years the pub was in need of a referb in some earers.
C. N.
Been going to Giddy Bridge for years. Great prices for drinks & food. But today's visit a little disappointing. All the salad in my burger was disgusting. Had to pull it all out. I know you don't order a burger for salad but when it looks yuck kinda puts you off the rest of your food. Love the chips as always. Nice thick and fluffy inside. 😋 You get what you pay for my husband said. Great value for money as always x thank you x
P. E.
Popped in here for coffee and this Wetherspoons much cleaner than the last time we visited. Well done attentive staff.
P. G.
Great Breakfast, served super quick by very friendly staff. Top marks👍
J.
Perfectly adequate breakfast but the app wasn't working so had to order at the bar unfortunately.
P. K.
Not a lot of beans on my beans on toast this morning, but a very good meal last night washed down with a very reasonably priced Leffe blonde
C. F.
Food and service were fine. Nice clean place. But nothing exceptional.
P. A.
Great pub very clean with nice staff. The food was good too.
J. G.
We had food and drinks. Both were good, however the place needs a good clean and update!
M. D.
Chicken breast bites were very good, stick soy sauce is questionable, but still enjoyable. Pizza was tasty, but could have been cooked more. No jalapenos on the nachos, chilli's instead, which was an interesting move. Good pint selection, speedy table service, nice ambience.
J. M.
Usual Wetherspoon food and drink. Lovely building. Attentive staff. Would recommend
F. S.
Food tastes good. Their allergen process sounds good on paper, but there is no obvious way to inform the kitchen of allergies, or swap out things within the dishes, as all ordering is online. The entire time I was very nervous about the food I was eating.
B. W.
Usual Weatherspoons. Place is tired and in need of a lick of paint. Food up to standard as usual albeit the food luke warm. Attentive staff which is always good.
S. P.
One of the better Wetherspoons. Visit Southampton fairly regularly and always park nearby. Food always hot and you don't have too long to wait....
W. R.
Nice pub, decent grub. Would go back here
S. M.
We had a lovely meal, here. Again table service was prompt and again, the staff were polite, vigilant and a smile with the service. The food was cooked to perfection and very tasty indeed. A very nice weatherspoon's it is. Very lovely... Will definitely visit again.
J. M.
About a 20 min walk from the Travelodge on Lodge road.
It is located on the left hand side of London road a few mins from the Magistrates Court.
If you don't wont to walk it is only 5 mins in the car. Parking on London Road, pay and display.
Or a bus ride instead?
All the buses from outside the Travelodge go past as well. But always check with the Driver.
Very nice all you would expect from a Wetherspoons.
Got a new 12 ounce Sirloin Steak - very nice and well worth a try.
Staff are helpful and a nice atmosphere.
R. F.
Popped in for breakfast. Food was good nothing special but for the price you really can't complain. Ordered through the app and order came quickly and the staff were excellent and very professional.
D. F.
You get exactly what you expect from a wetherspoons. Staff were really good
f.
Ideal pre match pub. Beer OK, food very good with quick service
L. D.
Classic Spoons. Cheap and cheerful. If you can deal with dirty tables and a lack of tables, then you'll be more than happy when you leave.
t.
went here after finding out about my stage 4 cancer. highly recommend :)
M. R.
Great food & atmosphere friendly staff
Would recommend going to this establishment
g. o.
I attended a function the night before my visit to The Giddy Bridge, where I was charged £7 for a lime and soda and a bottle of low alcohol lager.
In the Giddy Bridge I ordered a pint of beer and a lime and soda and got change from £3.
The beer was excellent, I was so impressed I had another.
Whilst some of the decor could do with a bit of a face lift you can't criticise the cleanliness of the place or the enthusiasm of the staff.
I will be back.
T. G. B.
Decent beers and prices onedraw back shouldallowsmokers on roofgarden
D. R.
Potentially a nice little Wetherspoons.
Due to its location seems a real magnet for university students in Southampton which makes the place a bit rowdy and untidy.
Credit though to all the staff who remained professional and friendly at all times and gave excellent service.
P. D.
Ok for what it is. Student crowd favourite. Not in the main centre of Southampton, but worth the walk, food portions were a bit on the mean side.
R. T. (. W.
It's a Wetherspoons pub and it looks and feels much like any other Wetherspoons. Reasonable value. Spacious. Outdoor seating too. Quite a good location on a major bus route, though limited car parking locally.
D. Z.
This place serves a decent fish and chips. They also have a good range of local beers on tap.
J. F.
The food was piping hot, which doesn't normally happen at a Wetherspoons.
There did not seem to be any sense of leadership with the staff appearing to do what they want.
We ordered some drinks via the app, they kept putting ice in my drink....even though it clearly stated no ice on with the app. It took a very long time for the order to arrive.
My husband went to the bar, stood behind 2 young females who were being served. He then went toward the bar after them to be told 'we don't serve in this area!'
The seating area downstairs is VERY dirty with black mould cleary visible on the ceiling.
We did not use the toilets.....
t. b.
Lovely vibe atmosphere, Saturday night packed with beautiful young students. Definitely a must place in Southampton
R. B.
Don't ask for the "2 for £10 Cocktail Pitchers", mine came after 20 mins. It was flat, had no ice and the ignorant waitress slammed it down on the table and THREW the straws down.
Go to the Standing Order. Nicer Staff.
S. 8.
Like any other wetherspoons, with nice helpful staff
H. B.
A typical no trills Spoons. It's large, with a lot of seating. Good for a cheap eat and drink.
J. P.
It's fine, standard Weatherspoons. They can't pour a Guinness to save their life unfortunately and the table service is absolutely dire.
k. d.
Old building with an old smell, plenty of room and TVs the high point is the lovely staff!
M. C.
Went here for new year's eve. Considering it was busy we didn't wait long for our meal.
Thank you to everyone who was working that evening
b.
Great food and drink, staff always happy to please
J. R.
very obliging staff but place really needs a refurb
I. C.
Great pub, always busy, bit overpriced drinks but has a really nice vibe, would be nice if you could smoke in the terrace
A. A.
Great food and service, but a mate's order didn't arrive and it took about 20 minutes to amend
L. F.
Cheaper than other spoons, good selection of shots and mostly all food available, just very busy due to location.
S. S.
The best Spoon in Southampton.
D. B.
Polite staff, quick service & relatively clean for a weatherspoons
j. m.
Great weatherspoons, they have a great rooftop terrace which unfortunately/fortunately they have turned non smoking. Great location, lovely building and cheap prices, can get busy on weekend nights or football home days
K. H.
Initially only one staff member at the bar with around 15 customers waiting eventually another two arrived and then sold food will take 35 minutes and in the hole in establishment no tomato ketchup bit of a joke really other than that it was fine
D. F.
Nice beer
P. E.
Very handy for a good meal before going onto the mayflower theatre
D. W.
Busy on a Saturday night but very young 18 /25 age group
m. f.
Except for the sticky tables its a traditional looking pub and its enjoyable
W. K.
Competitivly priced breakfast good quality breakfast with free refills on the coffee
A. R.
Seemed a nice place, 2 outside drinking areas and spacious inside.
Meal & beer were both good.
P. L.
Wi fi not working, food OK, beer good. Reasonable venue
K. R.
Very nice and friendly staff.
G. C.
Always use this pub when in area good food & drink & always quick service friendly staff that are very helpful
D. Z.
This place serves a decent fish and chips. They also have a good range of local beers on tap.
K. C.
Very tired and dated venue. Needs a refurbishment. Be nice to see staff in some sort of uniform aswell. Food was good tho
L. T.
A bit crowded, but managed to find a table, which was quickly cleaned for us. Great fish and chips.
R. S.
It's a Spoons. What can I say? I would like to big up Cannie(?) Who is, without doubt, the best Wetherspoon's staff member I've met in my life. If she doesn't get a pay rise or promotion, I want to know why.
P. S.
Cheap food and drinks compare to other pubs in city centre
M. S.
This place is great for old farts like us you can sit down and order your meal and drinks with a phone and there's always a member of staff comes and asks us if we need help I don't know who trains the staff but they certainly get it right the prices are unbeatable and the food is always nice cheers from 2 oaps mo and Archie.
A. R.
Seemed a nice place, 2 outside drinking areas and spacious inside.
Meal & beer were both good.
K. R.
Good value for money pub situated at the bottom of a busy street in upper Southampton. Lots of space well separated seating with upstairs area and roof terrace. Large selection of beer wine and spirits, very reasonably priced food served all day
T. M.
Our food came out reasonably quickly although they had problems in the kitchen & some were waiting a long time. Very good prices. I had the risotto. Taste was nice, though the Rocket on top was very limp. But you get what you pay for. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food.
R. D.
Good food good beer and good service.
R. B.
Awesome Pub, cheap pints and good food. Always busy and lively. A geart place to visit.
R. O.
Standard Wetherspoons, decent enough, but nothing out of the ordinary
S. H.
Nice busy place, I've noticed the staff don't clean tables very well tho :/ but there's cleaning supplies nearby so I don't mind if they are busy
W. K.
Competitivly priced breakfast good quality breakfast with free refills on the coffee
d. t.
Slow service but was busy Saturday hot weather
G. M.
Very nice breakfast and friendly staff
M. G.
Lovely roof terrace, you are not aware of the main road below. The staff do an excellent job keeping everyone served and the seated area clean.
D. B. S.
Can't beat the £6 burger/chicken sandwich + half a pint
F. W.
good food and the atmosphere are also good the staff's very friendly i recommended !
C. P.
Found this Wetherspoon very pleasant, went twice on 2 separate days on a day trip from Portsmouth. Lovely traditional old pub interior with the oak beams etc. Very polite staff, nice ale, good price. Upstairs seating is very pleasant. And to think, the Pompey folks told me, "don't go to Southampton!"
Probably nicer than any Wetherspoons in Portsmouth to be honest. Nice, chilled out folks there enjoying a beverage or two. Would definitely recommend, and go again if I'm in Southampton.
S. S.
It's a spoons! Not much to say but the staff here are always really hard working, service is good even when the place is slammed. As someone who once worked at a hungry horse pub, I know what it's like! Usually a good few real ales on too.
L. D.
It's a spoons, so of course it's a bit of a dive. Not one of the nicest inside, but the food is decent, cheap and cheerful. The app works well and they bring stuff over quick. Staff are nice. Terrace on the roof is good. You are going for a spoons so just take that into consideration.
M. H.
Good lively atmosphere good choice of drinks
M. K.
Love the giddy, it needs some TLC inside and a refurb but is a great place to meet friends and obviously the bar prices are very cheap compared to every other non Wetherspoons pub
L. S.
Simply fab, we are now regulars during our holiday in Southampton. Terrific staff, all food & drink that suits us.
P. L.
Wi fi not working, food OK, beer good. Reasonable venue
S. N.
Good location. Decent ambience. Food is quite reasonable in price. Even students can afford 11 pounds for 3 starters that's too filling. Alocoholic an dnon alcoholic drinks are available
r.
Typical spoons but with little decent real ale for my taste. Good service via the app and a pleasant environment.
G. S.
It's a spoons. I find this one better than the Standing Order.
G. C.
Always use this pub when in area good food & drink & always quick service friendly staff that are very helpful
A. R.
Nice, reasonably priced food & drink. Good selection of ales. Normally plenty of seating. Got a nice upstairs outside beer garden for the summer. If it's busy, you've also go Order & Pay to prevent losing your seat.
P. W.
It is what it is. Cheap alcohol and food with quick service.
M. H.
Exactly what it says on the tin.
Good service, good drinks. I didnt eat here, but the food looked ok.
J. B.
I had a meal and drink. It was nice and cheap and pretty good, staff there were lovely, really friendly and helpful, and very quick service.
T. J.
Great pub which is reasonably priced and serves food up until a certain time. There are two floors with an outside terrace area on the first floor. There's an outdoor seating area where you can drink and smoke. The bar staff do a good job of trying to serve everyone as quick as they can considering how busy it gets. Typically used as a starting point before everyone moves onto other pubs so if your wanting a seat on a Saturday evening make sure you turn up early to get one!
J. W.
Standard spoons, can't fault it, they do everything right that you would expect. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating.
Just be warned, the bar can be horrendously busy on a Saturday night, and don't bother trying to order to your table instead, it won't be faster.
A. C.
Nicey located and full of charm. Great beer selection and extensive menu. The food was decent and the beer was perfect. Here you pick a table, scan the menu, when ready to order make note of the table number, go to the counter and you order your food. It will then be brought to you.
N. W.
Decent Wetherspoons with a good variety of well kept ales, usual poor service though.
*UPDATE* Looking a bit tired now, really needs redecorating. Service better now due to using the app.
P. B.
It's not neat and tidy, but the staff are great, the food and drink are cheap and also the food is great value. Did I mention that it's quite cheap?
R. B.
Love this pub, Love having weekend breakfast there, seems like ages ago now, hope they open soon, For the drink they are always too busy in the evening, but nice lovely place.
S.
A good "Spoons" with fine ales
R.
Decent place
Mr Wether of Spoon has done a great job in creating a home for all those people who like drinking a little too much.
But the family area is a nice touch and quite inviting.
But do not get the pizza it is greasy cardboard and a waste of time and money
M.
Clean, had sign posts everywhere instructing people whete to walk, had protective glass installed at the bar and between booths. Dont know how it is in the evening but popped in during the afternoon just for a pepsi and was fine.
R. C.
Very busy but managed to get a table. Used the app to order food and drink as bar was packed. Drinks arrived within 5 mins and food within 20 mins. Food was nice and hot. They didn't have the pigs in blankets that came with the burger. We asked why we weren't told and the apologised and brought us a big bowl of onion rings instead.
E. F.
Had an early Sunday lunch here. It was quiet, food arrived quickly even though we were a large group. Standard Weathespoons menu - good quality and reasonable value. Good choice of drinks available.
D. F.
Typical Wetherspoons city centre pub, very busy, but tables available.
G. P.
Nice pub good prices
M. G.
Very pleasant staff, nice food, filthy toilets
B. P. G.
Good value for money. I had a spinach and sweet potato curry with a spicy prawn starter. The prawn starter was lovely as was the curry. The portion was large enough as I didn't have the room to eat the samosa that came with the upgrade.
K. H.
It's a wetherspoons, so same as any other, chips were cooked excellently as were the onion rings, which is what a lot of wetherspoons seem to mess up.
However, if you sit on the first floor then you are next to the kitchen, where you can hear all the colourful language from the chefs and they will frequently walk out of the kitchen for a wonder, so if you sit in specific seats they seem to take the narrow shortcut behind you a lot.
Otherwise very clean, good experience.
L. H.
Nice food and drink. And reasonably priced too. Never had a problem here. This is the better of the two Wetherspoons in the city centre, originally I used to go to the other one until I was treated badly by a staff member there so I now use this one. Also the drinks are cheaper here as well!
P. S.
Ringwood's "Forty Niner" is one of my favourite beers served in excellent condition, and on a football match day in a glass! Very refreshing. The staff work very hard and cope very well with the extra business. Thank you
J. F.
The food is ok, and there is a good selection of cheap beer, but that's what you expect to get at a 'Spoons. It's a big pub, the decor is quite dark but cosy like a traditional pub. My gripe is the fact the tables never seem to be wiped down, and the menus are sticky! However, I have only been in twice.
J. H.
Located in the town centre, this Wetherspoons is perfect for all needs, from Breakfast to lunch and dinner. To nights out before hitting the club, To enjoying the summer sun in the upstairs outside drinks area. This place really does have it all!
M. S.
Nice Weatherspoon pub. The only downside was that when we ordered breakfast one of my friends did not get his sausage. It was resolved quickly by staff.
S. M.
Best 'spoons in Southampton in my opinion. Generally very busy and popular with students but the beer is kept well and service is good. Serves food pretty late too.
C. 9.
Nice service, nice atmosphere and drinks, food wasnt very good. I ordered all day breakfast and the eggs were obliterated and rubbery, my grandmother also didn't enjoy her lasagne, she said it tasted like a ready meal.
S. M.
Been a few time good for lunch/dinner nice
Food at cheap prices cheap drinks also good place to start your night out
J. M.
The place is perfect for student a typical English pub.
Good food and good drinks and prices.
Be careful with the chicken had it completely frozen a couple times there.
C. L.
Good service. Didn't have to wait too long for our drinks. Toilets clean.
L.
Love The Giddy Bridge! It has a good atmosphere and it's very cosy. The food is delivered in good time and staff always ask how the food is. The staff are amazing here, they are so friendly. Best Wetherspoons in the south!
a. b.
Food was mediocre. Reasonably priced as with all wetherspoons decoration was a little tired but tables were cleared and cleaned promptly. Staff were friendly and helpful. Five stars for service, unfortunately let down by décor and food quality.
A. L.
It is a Weatherspoons great bar service plus table service with the app. We're a few of us out for Grand National and a few beers. Dipped into the 2 4 £7.99 meals both the same and with both an absolute bargain.
D. J.
Great prices food. If you download the wetherspoons app, your food and drinks will be brought to the table so no need to queue. Very cosy pub but it's usually very busy so not recommended if you want a quiet lunch.
s. w.
Great 'spoons menu , pub is a little tired , found do with a refurb , food is as to be expected and if the typical Wetherspoons decent standard.
I asked my daughter if she wanted to visit Smugglers for food , but she opted for a good old Wetherspoons 👍
A. S.
Excellent customer service and very helpful, helps that there is great beers, wines and other spirit's.
C. P.
Friendly staff but the food was luke warm again! What is it with Wethers most of these pubs nearly always serve up this type of food? Oh yes by the way, the blue ice cream dishes, everyone of them had big chips on the edges!!! 😞
S. P.
Standard Spoons. Lovely outside seating area with lots of plants and flowers. Only stopped for a drink so cannot comment on food. I did find it strange that a table is positioned almost right in front of the coffee machine.
K. T.
This is my favourite spoons, it’s slightly cheaper than any other spoons I’ve been to and it has a nice rooftop smoking terrace. Food and drink from there is what you expect from a spoons. The bar area downstairs isn’t too large but the seating upstairs and downstairs makes up for it. It’s quite a big pub
C.
This pub has gone down hill for cleanliness. Toilets are disgusting and the chairs etc could do with a refurb. No problems with service ever and using the app there is never any problems.
h. b.
Cheap food but can busy
L. H.
Very dissapointed with the food. Ordered gammon and it came with two dried up fried eggs which looked like they had been dropped on the floor the gammon was dry and tough and the chips were twice the temperature of everything else. Said I wasn't happy with it after trying to eat it and was offered a replacement which I declined. Glad to see that it appears they have cancelled my payment (via the app) but it would have been nice to tell me that. Will try again as it is the first time I have been unhappy at Wetherspoon. In fact they haven't cancelled my payment it has now appeared on my statement. I have emailed them via there online form but so far have not received any sort of reply.
S. T.
Fantastic location in the centre of Southampton close to plenty of parks and the nightlife. It's about as good a Witherspoon's as you're going to get. Not much else to say. Would recommend for an inexpensive night out
A. C.
Staff warm and friendly .
Beer prices reasonable had my favourite pint of thatchers gold very nice .
There on curry night busy but normal waiting time for food .
B. C.
Ive spent many a happy evening here. A pretty typical spoons, but it doesn't completely lack character.
R. S.
Customer service: Attentive and friendly staff. 5/5
Atmosphere/looks: It's OK but quite dingy and a bit weathered. 3.5/5
Food/Drink: Good food most of the time and the drink selection is usually better than most places. 4.5/5
Value: Probably the cheapest place in Southampton but great value overall.
E. H.
A guy called Dan served me and i received excellent service, I also was served by a tall handsome looking guy with dark hair and also was a very nice man. Overall it was a very good trip to this Spoons and will return again!!!
K. B.
Plain ordinary Wetherspoons they keep too many real ales so the pint I had was the worst IPA told him about it didn't seem really bothered said they would look into it lol flat dishwater. Burgers were over cooked with that bitter taste.... sticking with the standing order down the road
N. F.
A typical Wetherspoons, cheap booze and busy but it could do with a clean. Quite a few flies buzzing about
P. d. H.
Good beer selection and food comes quick, as for all Wetherspoons, but it's not exactly a Michelin restaurant! Standard collection of old drunks. But certainly not bad.
C. D.
Staff bit slow and rude
K. L.
Nice terraced roof area although the day i visited a group of gobby lads spoiled the ambience somewhat!!
l. n.
Best way to start the day, weatherspoons breakfast. For £2.90 I get just what I need, however I often get black pudding with it so £3 something. Staff are nice and a banging breakfast.
T. L.
A good but very busy spoons. Good selection of ales. Has a small garden area upstairs.
J. T.
Cheap and surprisingly high quality food, good service and a often pleasant atmosphere. Can get very loud and rowdy at times but if you don't mind that then this is a good place to go for food and/or a drink.
S. M.
No real ale & barman didn't know why or appear to care!
G. R.
Half the staff are lovely and seem passionate aboit their job, the other half are horrible, rude grumpy, unkempt and slothenly !
Which is a shame as the drinks and food served at 'Spoons are of a fantastic standard.
Toilets clean, upstairs seating is generally ignored and plates/ glasses/ tables left unwiped, great atmosphere at night. Has the potential to be a fantastic venue - lack of staff input is the downside.
D. H.
Staff was ok it's ok for students on a budget food is ok don't understand why it Wetherspoons cannot be able to cook a runny egg I don't think they're our chef but really just cooks been through too many Wetherspoons they all seems the same I have been to many Wetherspoons they all seem the same not caring about pride that said in the food out
I. “. G.
I'd normally say your typical Wetherspoons, but this one stands out a little. Has a nice, outdoor seating area upstairs, as well as additional seating, so you're more likely to find somewhere to sit. Staff are usually good during busy periods, especially at lunch. Nicely located at the top end of the high street near Soton nite-life, too.
D. C.
As Wetherspoony as any Wetherspoons. A bit old and worn down, it's not as big as the Standing Order, or as polished as the Red Lion in Bitterne, but it's a solid, dependable staple on any budget night out.
Great for lunches too, especially now you can order from your table with the app.
B. W.
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff
t. f.
Nice and welcoming
R. Y.
Banger place, cheap drinks init love spoons.
J. M.
The place is perfect for student a typical English pub.
Good food and good drinks and prices.
Be careful with the chicken had it completely frozen a couple times there.
M. c.
Typical spoons
Y. H.
Classic Wetherspoons. Good grub great choices of food including for vegans, excellent prices.
S. T.
Fantastic location in the centre of Southampton close to plenty of parks and the nightlife. It's about as good a Witherspoon's as you're going to get. Not much else to say. Would recommend for an inexpensive night out
J. H.
Located in the town centre, this Wetherspoons is perfect for all needs, from Breakfast to lunch and dinner. To nights out before hitting the club, To enjoying the summer sun in the upstairs outside drinks area. This place really does have it all!
L. M.
Usual fare of fair priced drinks and food. Good friendly staff and great service. Not one of the larger wetherspoons but well placed. Fast bar service. Wheelchair access
S. U.
Good selection of food at reasonable prices. The food was tasty and the service very quick. I was only waiting ~10 minutes from placing my order to receiving my food. This place has everything you'd expect from a good Weatherspoons.
R. A.
The large English breakfasts were good, the porridge was more like a lump of steaming oats stuck together, I fixed the porridge myself with some hot milk out of the hot drink machine.
However the hot drink machine ran out of milk and also the drip tray was over-flowing. I informed the girl in the wash up room to the drink machine not working and when the girl filled the milk up as I waited by it, she just nodded her head at the line of liquid pouring out of the drip tray and soaking into the carpet beneath, rather than emptying the drip tray. It seems to be an on going problem, as there are things growing on the carpet under this wooden hot drinks counter which were a source of concern/chuckles for the line of customers waiting for the milk to be filled up. A drain connected drip tray and a tiled floor would fix this problem, but it seems The Giddy Bridge management have not worked this out yet.
The local junkies are coming and going from the street to the toilets to get there fix, a problem over worked young staff will not fix.
It has to be said though, that the majority of staff in all Wetherspoons work very hard under demanding conditions and they get paid very poor wages for the amount of work put in. The problem of staff not fixing the little problems, would be easily fixed with a better wage, most of Wetherspoons staff are kids, poorly trained, poorly paid and poorly motivated.
In short Wetherspoons have set a nice price point for consumers wanting affordable food and drink prices over the last 20+ years, so it is hard to be overly critical of Wetherspoons pubs in general etc, but again, seeing the staff getting torn to shreds in the busy periods for a poor wage makes me glad to be long gone from working in the pub trade.
P. G.
Smaller than average Wetherspoons but everything you'd expect. Lots of seating, fast food service, large drink options at very reasonable prices. Free wifi too.
p. d.
A typical corporate replicated highstreet pub. This one is aimed at students, so easy going, youngish crowd. But can't complain about really cheap beer, and food is ok, standard menu. Got a outside roof top garden.. central to city.
K. A.
Decent spoons food and drink, plenty of room with lots of tables and outside area, but it's not particularly clean, especially the toilets which are often a mess.
M. H.
Good food and drink served in a nice atmosphere although can be very busy and take along time to get any service.
H. E. L.
Love Wetherspoon! You won't see too many smiles on the waiters' faces, but the food is always great and they have a wide range of beers! The typical British pub, I would say!
K. H.
Brilliant service, ordered from the app nice and easy, busy night but fast service and friendly staff. Lovely food and can't fault the prices!
P. J.
Typical Wetherspoons, food is ok great for the price, clean if a bit tatty the only reason for the 3 stars was the one very rude member of staff who I might have forgiven if they had been busy but they were not as they had time to listen to a private remark and make an unsolicited comment
K. R.
Very nice and friendly staff.
M. L.
Nice pub after shopping. Staff are friendly .very good service.
R. M.
Close to local clubs, room upstairs for larger groups, all drinks and food fantastic value for money. Standard Wetherspoons, basic value pub. In this particular branch they also do a Wetherspoons app, if you download it you can skip the queues when it's busy and order food/ drink to your table and use your card / PayPal.
J. B.
Cheap drinks, awful food, lacklustre service, a typical spoons. Nice roof terrace
P. W.
Decent pub food. Very friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Service was pretty good.
p. j.
LOVELY BREAKFAST AND COFFEE ONLY TWO GRIPES ONE TINY SMALL COLD MUSHROOM ( EXSPECTED MUSHROOMS PLURAL OR A LARGE MUSHROOM ) AND BUTTER FOR TOAST WAS LIQUID
S. L. H.
Staff were friendly, very clean and great service.
J.
Pretty nice place! The food was good (they actually had quite a few vegan options) and it's in a good location in town. It was a bit loud.
R. D.
Cheap and cheerful. There is a picture of a bridge upstairs but no actual wobbly bridge to run across while sinking pints - if there was then this would be worthy of 5 stars for sure.
C. J.
Always come to giddy bridge and since I've moved to South Wales, it's even nicer to visit and smash a chicken and rib combo. Didn't have a chance to try their pizzas but definitely for next time!
J. B.
Staff member found us a table for 7 of us. Food came quickly. Nice place for a stop off or brunch
R. D.
An excellent place to go for something to eat.they have a good selection of real ale and they have just started serving their Christmas menu.I've been using this place for some years now and it has always been a good place to go.
R. M.
This place is truly friendly. Food is filling staff very helpful. A woman could easy walk in here and feel comfortable. Disable toilets down stairs.
l.
Looks shabby, food wasn't any good, none of what we ordered was great. Chips were awful. Wouldnt go back.
G. S.
Nice, reasonably clean pub.
Good choice of ales usually.
Can get very busy on football days but normally not too bad and the staff are usually on the ball.
S. H.
Lovely outside area, the one downside was that people had used the flowers as an ashtray 🙄. Order was slightly wrong but was put right immediately 😊 Food was good as usual.
D. B.
Typical spoons, good value for money with food and drink. The pub is spacious and comfortable to sit in. It's only about a 5 minute walk from the train station.
P. W.
Spacious good ale and food. Need to keep an eye on toilets. Went for an Eartha Kitt and they had no toilet paper and the bogs were full of bangers and mash.
D. S.
It's a decent bang average spoons.
J. W.
Had a deal on drinks, which worked out at a really great price. Really good range of food and drinks. Large spacious place with an upstairs. Staff were great too
S. A.
Good quality food great staff an overall great experience I've ever indulge myself into im a ex employee and I vote this pub for the best to predrink before going out to other venues maybe grab something quick to eat even come along with your family everyones welcome... come along to the giddy see for yourself
M. F.
Super service in tier 2 , explained well at door thank you the staff , if alcohol wanted you need to buy a meal and you are allowed 3 drinks with it , very fair . Please respect the staff .
J. I.
Ordered a gourmet beef burger.
It came with a disgusting macaroni like cheese and was scoffed at when I asked the waiter for normal sliced burger cheese... which it should be served with by default.
Apart from that, drinks are good.
V. C.
Love Weatherspoon's good value but this one is showing its age due to popularity and needs some TLC. Good staff and can get very full at popular times.
j. t.
Typical Wetherspoons. Cheap and cheerful. Good staff, very friendly
A. R.
Foods alright great prices. I wouldn't say a family place to eat? But staff more than helpful. I'd go again :)
T. K.
Basically a stereotypical Wetherspoons, beware as it shuts at 11:30pm on most days so don't plan on staying there until too late at night! The opening hours are the only reason I'd not give 5*.
F. P.
Lovely friendly staff nice drinks nice atmosphere
H. P.
I had a nice meal 🍽️ lamb shank 🐑and real ale 🍺 lots of real ale 🍺 to choose from. and very resonable prices. l will be back l am a weatherspoon pub fan 👍😍🙂😃😃♥️♥️♥️👍
J. A.
Small wetherspooons and very busy. Only bad point is that the toilets are upstairs.
R. R.
Polite staff, clean tables good food an alright pub 👌😊
P. C.
My favourite Wetherspoon always clean and presentable nice range of ales a thumbs up from me
A. V.
Thursday is curry night, in the past it has been very hit and miss but tonight was outstanding for a wetherspoons, great curry for £7 including a drink 👍
K. W.
Sold out of peri peri chicken
G. D.
Beer choice is limited compared to a couple of years ago. Also Mr Tim Martin where are the British replacements for all the European weisse beers you removed and promised us? They are out there, but sadly not in here!
S. H.
A firm Southampton favourite. It's a spoons so you know about the price/quality matrix for food and booze. Ensure you visit the outfit
Door roof terrace with is nothing sort of charming
D. V.
The staff were helpful and friendly. Good choice of ales for my partner and the food was the best I had in a Wetherspoon's pub 😃
V. B.
The food is great and drinks are cheap, but it needs more space for people to sit down and enjoy the conversation and drinks.
G. J.
Good buzzz,very reasonable prices.attentive staff.what more can u ask ????
S. s. W.
Fast service good pint
d. t.
Good drink rubbish food
N. R.
Great pub, cheap beer - how can Weatherspoons do beer for £2.29 when others charge £4.50+? - food looked good as well. Well worth a visit!
J. F.
Coffee and tea fine but no stirrers. Staff brought some spoons . Did not eat there but would be happy to do so.
G. J.
In an area becoming more affluent with Brew Houses and cocktail bars the Giddy Bridge is always a reliable pit stop for whatever the occasion. Cheap, cheerful, great selection and plenty of room.
p. h.
Met here for breakfast before going to Ascot races. I'm vegetarian and was made up with the generous value for money breakfast. I love weatherspoons and especially support a Brexit campaigner.
J.
It was very nice. Went there for breakfast and for some beer after a football match. As an away fan, it's not that easy to get some beers after a match
M. S.
Another Wetherspoons pub my local #spoons before a #saintsfc home game can't go wrong with a wetherspoons fantastic choice of real ale 🍺 which i love.. Also great choice of craft beer #Cheers quick serves for food and great value for money.... Long way to go... Only visited 66 #Wetherspoons so far..lol #Youcantbeataspoons
d. d.
Very good pùb food good as well
C. S.
As witherspoon can do better surfaces still a little "grubby" cleaning team needs to put "more EFFORT into what they are being PAID for!!"
S. N.
A stock standard Wetherspoon but food was of a good standard and service was good especially as it was a busy time of year. Its in town but parking could be found on shop fronts on the opposite side of street.
S. P.
Great example of another Premier Hotel. Only short walk (even though it is uphill) from train station. Very friendly and helpful staff and yet another great nights sleep.
H. K.
This place is ok, good for drinks or start the night off, not sure what kind of crowd it's trying to cater for, but I suppose that's what's good about this place, it's got a mix of everyone which shows how strong the place is
L. A.
Smashing staff, awesome roof garden, good for students and groups for pre drinks
D. M.
Great 2 managers .best I know.very friendly & I'm always happy & willing to help them out on the door when asked whenever there's trouble ect
J. F.
Decent food and when busy the new Wetherspoons app makes ordering and paying for your food at your table far easier. Plus food arrives extremely quickly
S. O.
Decent food and beer but service a little off. Half the table has eaten theirs before the others' meals were delivered
Y. H.
Classic Wetherspoons. Good grub great choices of food including for vegans, excellent prices.
R. P.
Loud but a good atmosphere
S. C.
Drinks served promptly and pleasantly by a friendly, helpful staff member. Nice atmosphere.
J. T.
Same as any other wetherspoons. Good for cheap bite to eat. Waiter got our order wrong and top tip: don't order the coffee
C. G.
we didn't wait very long for our food, which was hot and tasty, it is typical pub grub reasonably priced.
S. M.
Pretty basic spoons but has a good local beer selection m good beer guide recommended and let's in away fans for saints matches
L. D.
Good food. Good place to meet people. Cheap and cheerful. Perfect for uni students on a budget!
M. B.
Good food and super choice of drinks.
As with most Wetherspoons quite inexpensive compared to other establishments close by.
C. C.
Wetherspoons never lets you down
Good food a great range of real ales and to top it all off great prices, we ate twice at this pub evening was very busy but good service and breakfast for the price is perfect
Good staff always efficient and helpful
Chris
B. T.
It is what it is, typical Weatherspoons pub. Nothing fancy, drinks cheapest in local area.
G. M.
Great food and drinks. The free drinks refill is a unique one but customer service can better
J. O.
Great weatherspoons, you get what you pay for, cheap and quick.
S. B.
Lovely deal on Thursdays curry night. Curry, rice, 2 poppadoms, naan bread & a drink for little over £6.
N. B.
Good little pub with roof garden. Gets a bit overeat ed in recent weather through air con not working. A good range of real ales
L.
Love coming here for lunch
M. H.
Standard Wetherspoons, open early for beer, breakfast and merriment. Lovely terrace upstairs for fair weather diners which is also great for smokers
S. S.
Good selection of drinks, though could be better, bit run down, but cant argue with the price, really good value, good for pre-drinks
P. F.
Fine selection of beer. Staff are alright, but why do I have to psy for my drinks before they are served?
R. T. U. S. S.
Cheap and cheerful, good value pub food. Quick service, order and pay by app facility. Can't beat it!
T. H.
Was my regular when I lived in Southampton.
D. N.
Rowdy, but if that's your scene then go for it
T. W.
Waitress went above and beyond to be more than helpful. Really friendly place
N. R.
Has a lovely lunch and drink with my daughter
R. D.
Great place to eat and a good selection of real ale.
L. N.
Prices are cheap, the staff is kind and the service fast. Easily one of the best pubs in the city
C.
It's a weatherspoons so you get what you expect; a cultural melting pot where homeless alcoholics can rub shoulders with the yacht owners of ocean village and you can watch with a selection of pints that give you change from 3 quid.
D. “. V.
Ok for a cheap ale,but in need of new decor now
H. C.
What we have come to expect from a Weatherspoons. Good service, good food at a reasonable price.
T. G.
Food was nice but found the chicken a bit tough.we had chicken combo & ribs .aprt from that food was lovely
J. S.
The food was alright. Sometimes when I go there you do wait a while to get your drinks served but this time I didn't have to wait too long.
A.
Food is ok. It is a Wetherspoon after all. Drinks are a decent price and food is delivered quickly. It can get very busy.
B. W.
Lively place on a Saturday night. Nice staff, lots of room, not a bad place to go for a few drinks.
L. O.
Always busy. Typical spoons inside, food was excellent. Service quick via the app
S. A.
Staff are friendly and helpful . Relaxed atmosphere and good beer what more could you need
A. L.
Nice pub, good beer, lots of seats, nice beer garden upstairs. Great prices, no music, shows Scooby Doo on the telly
s. d. 1. d.
As usual good but for the people taking advantage of the meal deal making it difficult to find a seat
M. L.
Although busy, myself and my friends still had a good time and serve time wasn't too bad considering how full the place was.
T. B.
Food is cheap and tolerable. Drinks are vast and always of good quality and cheap. Shame the clientele let the place down.
K. H.
Great value food and drinks. Ideal venue for a weekday lunch with friends. Very busy at weekends.
R. T.
It's a Wetherspoons cheap beer and cheap food. That's about all that can be said
M. B.
It's a Weatherspoons so you should know what to expect. Does have a roof terrace which is nice in summer. Also tends to be busy.
m. c.
Always a pleasure to eat and drink here in a place you know how much it's going to cost you & come home with loads of change in your pocket.
P. B.
Good drink prices. Food nice and very reasonably priced. Can see why people flock here.
G. P.
Good pub
m.
Not bad, just need to listen to the order being placed so it's correct. Having said that, food was good
J. C.
Sat upstairs, ordered using the app. Food took ages to arrive, drinks even longer. Even though there were no customers at the bar downstairs.
M. R.
Good prices, food okay
T. M.
Good typical wetherspoons pub, food was a little disappointing and the bar staff did not know what was included on the children's menu, just a heads up make sure your children get their meal, drink and fruit.
