We didn't go inside today, due to our concerns about Covid in the UK, but we were quite comfortable outside in the covered seating area. The food was very good and the price was reasonable, for what we had. The owner and staff were attentive. I expect we will visit again soon.

Fab selection of ales at this quirky place on the avenue just 3 mins from the common. Cask ales kept well and taste great. Lovely tasting food, served quickly; piping hot. Highly recommend the scotch egg and the cheesy chilli croquettes. Friendly service.

Well laid out; well managed; good service; good choice of good ales. A short walk from the glories of Southampton Common, less than a mile from the City centre and well served by public transport. What's not to like? What's not to love?

Loved this place, ale excellent as were the guys serving, black pudding scotch eggs were brilliant, if we lived nearby, this would definitely be our local. Definitely recommend. Social distancing well observed.

Massive respect to any place run by blokes where they make sanitary items freely available to women in the bathroom. What a bunch of gents! Great bar, great beer. Definitely one of Southampton's hidden gems.

Excellent new bar near Stag Gates, Southampton. Several well kept local ales available, no food available until sometime in March 2020. UPDATE 17th May 2021 I'm so glad this great little pub made it through lockdown, consistently well kept beer, with great service, even more room now with an extension towards the back of the pub. I still haven't eaten here yet, I will rectify that soon, but food looks good and is very popular. I'll keep coming back for the great beer though.

Absolutely delicious! First time going there and I shall be coming back, went with my mate Dan and he recommended that we go there as he's been before! He had duck with pasta, and I had the buttermilk chicken burger with fries... Wow!! Just amazing, staff are very friendly, has a rustic feel with cool decor all over the restaurant, music to, just a lovely experience. Disabled friendly, slope out the front, clean and tidy very spacious, and a seating area out the front when the weather is nice...5* definitely check this place out! Brilliant 😊👏

Great to see you open properly - last time we were great was a few days after opening, then lockdown kicked in! A new local! Had your great chicken burger - fantastic "sauce" (what was it?) and I pinched some of the tasty veggie Ramen, good too!

Good beer, more like real ale than craft IPA, which suits my tastes perfectly. Can be a bit noisy. We had very good hoi sin ribs, but the rest of the menu was a bit fancy when all I wanted was a burger or fish and chips. I had a great night and and still drunk from it

A very nice and relaxing bar with good food and good beer. Bearing a real ale fan, they had a decent selection of ales. Good food, too. Everything was freshly cooked. The burgers were actually hand made.

We have just moved nto the area and this is our nearest water hole. Husband loves real ale and this has it all: fantastic guest ales, friendly staff, delicious food, great atmosphere (and nice glass of wine/bottle of lager for those not so into ale). We will be coming back, really happy find, thank you!

Great little bar with a good selection of beers on tap and keg. The seating area out the front isn't too busy/loud considering its proximity to a major junction as it's set back back behind cycle lanes and bus stop. Staff are super friendly too.

Early July 2021 my wife and I visited The Handle Bar in the evening. We were politely shown to our table, and quickly attended to make our order. A pint of delicious Porter for me and a large glass of a superb red wine were our accompaniment for a selection of three tapas, plus sides of coleslaw and chips. Everything was great quality, well cooked and we were very satisfied, hence our recommendation and a five star review.

Lovely customer service and food. Ladies’ room had free sanitary products which was a nice touch. The owner kindly gave us an umbrella when it started raining and he had a really cool moustache 😎

Delicious ale. Was passing on a walk during lock down and took advantage of the takeaway cask ale on offer. It was 2 pints for £7.40. They had a good selection of cask and keg beer. Can’t wait to go back and try the beer and food when even more options are available after lock down.

Fantastic lil gem on the outskirts of the main city hub. A good amount of effort has gone into this place to make a very warming and welcoming atmosphere. You wont find 50 different beers here, but you will find expertly chosen ales on a rotational basis that have all been chosen because they are *GOOD if not fantastic* ALES. You are destined to find an ale you like and the prices are more than reasonable. Can't comment on the food just yet. But from what I've smelt and seen it looks fantastic. Even through the dreded covid times we all face, the bar is making a fantastic effort to ensure the impact to customers is minimal, and the bar is safe to enjoy to drink and eat for all. Can't recommend this place enough. Sincerely hope this lil gem is around for years to come.

A great craft bar, with friendly and knowledgable staff. The bar is currently adhering to social distancing rules, during Covid, but this hasn't been over-bearing. The bar also has a great menu and we ate there for the first time on Saturday 18 July. We had Chicken Caesar Salad and 3 tapas, including patatas bravas/chilli cheese croquettes & garlic breaded mushrooms. The food was of an excellent standard and I would recommend it and will definitely eat there again. All in all, a great place to go for a good pint of beer and a chat. Well done guys !!
