Brilliant place! Plenty of space for bands and people watching. Lost a star mainly due to the fact one of the staff refused to let us put a small table and chair in the event room for my disabled friend who can't stan for long therefor missing out on watching the bands. Other then that thank you for hosting our husbands band, I'm sure we will be back. (and will bring our own collapsible table & chair) #Drallion

One of the best pubs in Southampton. Has always had wonderful character and with the recent refurb, now has facilities to match. The garden is second to none and the range of drinks is superb. The gig room is intimate but fantastic for catching great local bands!

I regularly visit the hobbit and love the music, pool table and outdoor space. They have a dance floor but it seems to shut quite early on. Great cocktails, a shame they had to rename them all. The shooting star up the road has a similar vibe but with more students

Great choice of drinks, really reasonable. Staff are chatty and smiley behind the bar, which is nice. Had a pizza which was also very cheap, stone baked and really tasty. Great themed pub, huge garden!

I liked it. It has a very big backyard full of tables where you can enjoy your drink. The food was ok, I guess its frozen pizza, but it comes hot and it tastes fine.

We were there on a Thursday night and the atmosphere was nice - More studenty than I expected but that just goes to show how good a value it is. With that said there was one man behind the bar who was nothing but the epitome of misery. Looked sick to death of being there, never saw him smile once, almost felt too anxious to ask him for a drink incase he snapped at me for getting him to do his job. Ruined the atmosphere a little bit but other than that it was a good night.

Really cool pub, chilled vibe, a variety of cheap cocktails to choose from as well as other alcoholic beverages. Have random events e.g. inflatable swords. Dj was pretty good at mixing a variety of music, ranging from indie rock, metal, drum and bass and dubstep, as well as some 90s/00's classics Will definitely return. Didn't give 5 stars simply because the toilets weren't great and the floor was quite sticky (I know that's not the staff's fault though, people probably just spilt their drinks)

My daughter had her wedding reception in the lower garden brilliant venue plenty of space and places to sit even had a fab shelter with heaters to have the food and it's own bar the proprieters were helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them even getting a chair for my elderly father to sit on as the benches were to low for him, very highly recommended a good time was had by all well done the hobbit x

It's clearly lost the license to serve Frodos and Bilbo's but thank the McKellan'ses it's still called The Hobbit. The new owners have honoured it's tradition so I can't complain and the improvements they have made are all good. Top venue.

First time i've been in a few years. Nice refit, glad it's a bit brighter. Beers are good prices and the cocktails still great - despite the name changes. One 'issue' would be that we arrived at 8pm and had to pay a £2 cover charge for 'live music' even though...well, we didn't go watch any because we were not there for that. Though, as long as those bands do get some of that money, I'm happy it helps support local music so hey ho.

This is my favourite pub. Words cannot do this place justice. The staff are friendly and helpful, the place looks amazing, the tables are well spaced, and I have always known the toilets to be clean. The refurbishment looks awesome, especially like that the bar has been lowered (or at least feels that way) which is great for us small people. They also have great events, wonderful range of music, and their quizzes are a lot of fun.

Pretty cool themed pub! Doesn't pick up till around 9pm but when it does its a lovely atmosphere and very cosy inside with sofas to sit on and a really lovely large outdoor space! The cocktails (also hobbit themed) are amazingly priced and very tasty honestly but be warned very strong being pints! Overall, a nice crowd and seemingly nice bar staff.

They couldn't have Lord of the rings stuff all over the walls or they would get sued, so instead they grab stuff from what looks like D&D and I have no trouble with that at all. The "people" who go to this pub are nerds but in s nice way. The kind of way you wish you had cool nerd shirts to wear so you would look cool in s place like this. I came for the music and I had a great time.

Loved the Lord of the rings theme and drinks named after the characters. Went in a Sunday when they had cocktail deal, which was great! All the cocktails tasted absolutely lush and you get a whole pint for a cheap price. The shots were lovely but they didn't have all the ingredients so they couldn't make all of the shots. It said online they close at 1am on a sunday but we were asked to leave by midnight. It was also pretty quiet on Sunday.

Awesome pub with an interesting garden, open mic nights on a Wednesday and some nice beverages. I would highly recommend dropping in for pre drinks or even to stay the whole night. There is a nice pool table with an excellent heater for the cold winter days. Great pub, loved it.

It's very different after the refurb and I still recommend. I'm there on a regular basis and chat to all the bar and door staff who are always friendly. Will point out you need ID now however old you are so don't forget it. It's part of the security and if it keeps troublemakers away I'm all for it. Amazed I've never fallen down the stairs to/in the beer garden, they are steep! The towers are amusing and saves the hassle of going up and down the stairs too much. Plus they've started doing food now, it's cheap and cheerful and a good way to sober yourself up if you've had too many cocktails.

Despite the Hobbit having been here forever, it was the first time we 've visited. The place is huge, really, if you include the garden. There's a large covered outdoor area which even contains a pool table. The staff were pleasant, well informed and happy to pass on their knowledge and so the chances of us returning are high. They've even restarted live music there, hurrah!

This place is great! It has a wonderful atmosphere, great drinks, loads of seating, live music and more! My friends and I tried the "Fellowshop": this is a series of cocktails, each named after a different member of the fellowship of the ring, and if you finish them all you get a t shirt. The cocktails were all very tasty, and I do look forward to wearing the shirt at all my nerdy gatherings. Definitely recommend

I visited this pub last night and I honestly cannot reccomend it enough. Not only do they serve delicious and well thought out cocktails, but they provided an incredibly safe environment for people like myself to enjoy a drink, whilst helping the economy. Since the outbreak of Covid-19 it did worry me venturing out to a pub surrounded by others. However, the whole experience was well thought out and I felt SO SAFE. I thought the traffic light system was brilliant and loved that we could order from the app! Which was incredibly slick and the staff did an amazing job to create and serve the drinks super fast! All the staff that we met were very friendly, helpful and well trained. Having worked in the hospitality industry previously I can only imagine the stress they are going through in this current climate and I just want to say you are all AMAZING and you should be SO proud of yourselves! If you want to enjoy a drink and feel safe... Visit The Hobbit! 🖤

Good pub, some great live bands and the outdoor / smoking area is huge and really nice in the summer. Very disappointed in the selection of beers, I think they had only one and that wasn't very good. The Hobbit seems to favour cocktails based on a Hobbit them, great if you like them but I would expect a pub to serve beer.

Very lovely place! Good drinks and nice feel when it turnes dark. They did a very good job to spread the tables to keep the social distance and used red and green lights as symvols when you can use the staircases. Very smart way or operating the area. For someone outside the UK this was a place with good and cheap drinks. Big compeared to what im used too. It took a little bit of time to get the drinks, and you ordered them through an app and table number. Loved the fantacy themed feeling, and even the drinks had fantasy themed names. Deffently a place I'll return to again.

Chilled evening for a friend's birthday. The Hobbit is under new management who have refreshed the drinks menu and are currently doing building renovations. Something is clearly working as the drinks are much nicer. My main memories as a younger person were spending the whole night in the garden with friends, waiting for the outside kitchen to open for some awesome food, and getting enough drinks to complete the notorious fellowship. The Hobbit has always been a very accepting place to go, and it wasn't unusual to see metal heads and more "normal" people all co-existing without any problems. I hope younger generations get to experience what is a thoroughly enjoyable place where anyone is welcome.

Great place to have a drink with friends. Has the usual pub classic games, but if you are up for a challenge try tackling the drinking games which are rewarded with a t-shirt. It is a safe environment with a zero tolerance to drug abuse. A garden space open in the summer is a chill atmosphere.

The initial impression. Was a nice clean, small pub... Then you go down stairs, two more rooms and a huge outside area, easily 1.5 football pitches worth of space. Cocktail pints.... Not that amazing, they were nice, but not what you expect after the raving. Free entry into the venue, assume this is before a certain time. But for such a big venue, they have a very small bar, and coming in from the garden to the bar is further than most bars you would visit.

Cocktails are great, lovely naming of everything and great theme! Would highly recommend this place to anyone. Jukebox sound system is a mixed bag, on the one hand it's fun to have your own music play, but some of the music there isn't always to your taste... and it's quite loud...

One of the best pubs in town, and kinda famous in it's own way. Pint cocktails are fun, but there is a decent selection of other drinks too. Often visit for music or beer festival in the summer, which is great. I'd recommend it here, it's a nice place to hang out.

What a legend this pub is. It's been going for years and if walls could talk I imagine they'd tell us wonderful and weird tales. It's a great space, a nice bar upstairs then space for gigs downstairs. The outside area is huge and great for Summer. You get a huge crowd down there, often younger folks with Valley locals coming in and out. May Day gigs were always great. The last time I went in it looked like it needed a bit of love. I'm glad it's still standing!

There is often live music on downstairs, an excellent beer garden with its own outdoor food bar and upstairs has the best rules for the juke box (if it is rubbish the bar staff will turn it off). This place is great if you like rock, metal or punk but if you like pop music it might not be for you. The LOTRs themed cocktails are amazing! Just don't try the challenge all in one night.

The Hobbit. Perhaps my first proper pub experience, and definitely my strangest. A go to for me and my friends, to drink something sweet and alcoholic. You won't find the cocktails served here anywhere else. Weekly recurring all night deals, a games room, live music nights, and a downstairs outside area. Walking into this seemingly bigger-on-the-inside pub feels like stepping into Middle Earth. Magical and down to Earth. Highly recommended.

Hobbit themed pub with a lot of rustic character. There are Hobbit ornamental statues and paintings inspired from the story. The huge beer garden is fantastic and offers open and sheltered spaces. Unfortunately there is no wheelchair access to the garden. The drinks are very reasonably priced. There are different offers and events depending on what day of the week it is, including open mic and live bands.

Not to everybody's taste, but if you like live bands, loud rock music and a pub with the atmosphere to go with it then this is it. Great "alternative" pub, Tolkien themed drinks, pint cocktails, Old Rosie on tap. They do charge 50p for card transactions though so make sure to call at a cash point on your way. They have live music, bands, open mic nights and a very large beer garden. Pool table, dart board and jukebox also here.

My favourite pub in the whole world. The Hobbit has a special place in my heart as the pub I visited as a young adult, and I still visit now when I come down to Southampton. A very quirky pub, however I felt it's reputation preceded it a little too highly. A limited selection of beers on tap, mixed with an interesting mix of music policies meant moving on after one. Maybe it was student night when we went, or maybe it is just one of those places to have to visit at least once whilst in Southampton.

Fun, student haunt near St Denys Station in Southampton. The joy of going is definitely in the novelty theme, very enjoyable to go with a group of friends to attempt the "Fellowship Challenge". Drinks are fairly priced and on certain nights you can get great deals, and on most nights there is a burger and chips canteen which is pretty good as well. Only thing keeping this away from a five star review is the upkeep of the place: it is not the most clean of places and could definitely do with some refurbishment. But it is still worth it for a great night out.

Attracted publicity when Stephen Fry and Ian McKellen offered to pay the costs when the pub was faced with a copyright infringement claim from the owner of marketing rights to.Tolkien's works. No proper food offered, and real ale selection not exciting (pub focuses on Hobbit themed cocktails), the pub's main charm is the great atmosphere. This is a rare gem, and well worth a visit.
