Very mixed experience. We had lunch on a Tuesday afternoon, so a very quiet time to visit and sure enough there was not many people there when we arrived. We ordered our drinks and mains and they came promptly and were very nice, however one of the burgers was missing one of its toppings as they'd run out of brisket. We then ordered desserts. A simple Eaton mess and 2 chocolate brownies and ice cream. We waited. And waited. And after about 30 mins or so we asked if they'd forgotten them as that seemed a long time to wait for something so simple between 14.00 and 15.00 on a Tuesday. Eventually at 15.12 our desserts arrived some 50 minutes after ordering, 1h 22 mins after our mains, with an apology for the time taken. About to tuck in I noticed we had no ice cream on the brownies so I had to go find someone to ask what had happened. Eventually someone came to tell us there was an issue with the freezer and there wasn't any. I wish we had been told this 45 mins earlier as we'd not have stayed and waited. We wasted some precious family time on something which didn't arrive and my family had to then get their boat home instead of a planned visit elsewhere.

Can recommend the nachos and vegan burger! Really tasty. Make sure you ask about what your ordering though as they had run out of a few aspects of main meal but served them anyway with missing parts.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch. Very good beef roast, but the veggie nut roast was even better. Not sure about the peas in an apple crumble though! Would definitely return for some of the other dishes on the menu too.

Lovely place, great atmosphere, amazing food, friendly staff. Everything we had was gorgeous. (I had the jerk chicken burger which was a daily special but I hope they put it on the new menu!) They have a great selection of gin and other spirits. They are also dog and child friendly. We will definitely be back. I think we’ve found our new favourite local place! Apparently they do takeaway/delivery too so we will definitely order from here next time we fancy a takeaway.

The Railway Inn is a fabulous place for lunch or an evening meal. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the menu has a good range to choose from. I had the most amazing burger with the best cheesy chips I think I've ever had! The place is very nicely decorated and has a lovely feel about it. The toilets were very clean. All the food was cooked fresh to order and didn't take too long. Our rather large dog was very welcome to join us. I would highly recommend a visit.

What a treat this was! Came here from our our area and from an area where so many pubs are the same menu from big breweries. We had a bread board to share for starters and it was HUGE!! really tasty! Mains were also brilliant! Service was really quick and staff really friendly! I generally don't tip but they definitely deserved it here! Thank you.

Four of us went to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday after seeing many posts on Facebook etc and we weren't disappointed! Butter and Chillie prawns are amazing as were the legendary Railway Inn burgers! We had the shredded BBQ Beef and Cajun Butter milk chicken, my dad very much enjoyed his Lamb and mint sausages and my mum had the caesar salad. All followed by pudding and coffee which were all very good, the Railway Inn was very clean and staff are all very polite and well dressed, in addition to being versed on the menu. I've given a four star because my dad always says " there's always room for improvement no matter how good the food and service was". Don't take my word for it, go try it! You won't be disappointed!

It was very busy for a random Tuesday evening, we managed to get a table even though they originally said it was bookings only for food which was great. I had to go find someone to take our offer as we had been sat waiting a while and nobody came and it wasn't clear if we were supposed to go up to the bar or someone was coming. The food was fine, nothing to write home about, just standard level pub food but it was pleasant enough for grabbing a bite to eat before a long journey home

Disappointing meal last night. Pleasant surroundings. However, let down by really poor service. The food was sent out promptly but my experience was that the staff were not attentive. No one asked if we wanted more drinks or dessert. Or even if our food was satisfactory. You would think after a challenging past two years for hospitality there would be a focus on service to ensure repeat business. My food was luke warm at best. The ‘new menu’ is fairly uninspiring.

1st visit and not disappointed, Sunday lunch was superb, plentiful, hot and tasty, choice of chicken. Beef, or pork, fresh veg yorkshire. No stuffing though! Potatoes were OK, think they had been stood around a while, will definitely go again to try other dishes on the menu.

BEST CHIPS EVER. A great location. 10 seconds from Botley station. Livelo big outdoor seating area and inside is a proper English pub with a log burner in action in cold days. Came here for a lunch with my wife. We both had the club sandwich which was delicious but despite starving myself, I failed in my quest to take it down. I'm ashamed. This was I part due to the awesomeness of the accompanying fries. Wife opted for skin on fries which were 10/10 however, we also ordered the parmesan truffle fries. My god. At £4.50 I was expecting quality but we also got quantity. A huge portion and they were absolutely to die for. Hands down the best chips I've ever had, beating the previous best of triple cooked duck fat chips at a Tanners brothers restaurant. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good range of drinks. We'll be returning to work through the rest of the menu...... with a side of fries.

Went here as a table of 12 for a birthday the food was absolutely lovely we tried a good selection and all meals were good! The only fault was service it's difficult the girls are very young and probably need a bit more training. But will return.

A nice pub, with friendly staff. Unfortunately the car park was full, so we had to park across a busy road. The food was nice but the portions were too big. Not a huge choice of desserts.

The only downside was car parking, car park was full with people parking along the access road wich made entering and exiting hazardous. Stil a favourite venue for us though.

Lovely pub with fab food, great wines and good service. Tables were beautifully set up, with fresh flowers and lit candles, making for a lovely cosy atmosphere. Pricy but nice food and deco in modern country look; includes woodburners for the winter. Well worth a visit and if you want to eat at the weekend, then book a table as it gets busy. Outside tables get evening sun and a lot of options. Parking is limited but you can always park across the road at the railway station car park.

Really big portions of good food. Great service. Didn't drink so no comments there. Could do with a few healthy options on the menu for people who are watching their weight like me.I had chicken caesar salad which of course has croutons and a fat rich dressing, left the croutons. The building is much larger than it looks from the road as you pass by. Lots of space and well presented. Excellent food. There is a bar area and a garden area for sunny drinks. What a let down. Had seen the menu before arriving had seen the pictures on social media. And thought, this isn't a big corporation uses tricks to make the food look better and bigger.... A Ceasar Salad, expectation croutons, grilled chicken breast, bacon, crispy onions etc. Reality, Dry Chargrilled chicken chunks, fried off bread crumbs, crunchless lettuce, no crispy onions. Ordered: Burger, with items removed. Came out with them all in. Chips, served on the side of the plate in a foil takeaway container, felt like they had run over to a burger van and bought them as they'd run out and couldn't be bothered to tip them onto the plate. Service was awful, three people came for the drinks order, before it actually arrived. Took them another 20minutes to take the food order, then 40minutes for the food to arrive, but 10minutes between the burger being served and the Ceasar Salad being served by which time the burger was cold. It wasn't even busy at the time of our visit. Had been looking forward to trying out what we believed to be a succulent and tasty menu, just to be let down. And left unsatisfied by the food we had eaten.

Went for family meal out one evening. Lovely atmosphere. Was cold sat by the door that the smokers use to come in and out. We had two main meals and a kid's meal. Kids menu doesn't include a portion of veg or salad, so we asked for peas to be added, which wasn't a problem. The main meals arrived. They were okay. I had asked for my egg to be added to my kids meal (as I don't eat egg), this was written down, but didn't happen. Bit disappointing. Might try again but won't be in a hurry.

2nd visit not as good as the 1st. Possibly due to the fact they were running out of the accompanying bits to go with sunday dinner and my fault for getting there later in the afternoon. What we had managed to get was really good quality and cooked well.

Such a lovely pub with a brand new menu. Won one of their giveaways which was fab as I have never won anything like that! We had a great meal including starter drinks mains and dessert - the ribs are the best ribs we’ve actually ever had! It’s great they use locally sourced produce. The atmosphere is really nice for a date night, and their newly revamped garden looks pretty. We’ll definitely be back soon to try more of the menu and this time we’ll pay 😉

Here in Southampton for a couple nights stay and found this beautiful restaurant. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, the restaurant itself is so stylish and cosy. We hadn't booked and even though they were rushed off their feet they accommodated us. The food is incredible. One of the best pies I've had! And burgers are to die for! Probably will go back again tonight. Thanks guys x

Although the pub is closed because of COVID-19 we took advantage of their delivery service, which charges £2. It was fantastic! We were amazed at the generous portions - we couldn't eat it all so saved some of the veg in the fridge to have with tomorrow's dinner. We ordered 2 roasts (beef) for 5pm and were told it would arrive within an hour window. The delivery came about 5.15, still hot so we could just sit right down and eat. Besides the beef, we had the largest Yorkshire puddings I've ever seen, many roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, mashed swede, and red cabbage, not forgetting a generous amount of gravy. I definitely recommend this and hope pubs reopen soon so we can go in person!

Lovely meal yesterday. Great to see a full vegan menu.. Was a little confused when asked if there were any fish options the response was... We are trying to go vegan so we have taken it off the menu.. Not sure if it was said to get brownie points as we had a vegan in the group or if that is the case, then we'll done, but was still confused as plenty of meat options still.. With all that said our meals were yummy.

Area around the pub is relatively mediocre but what a suprise when you're enter the pub. Lovely interior following a railway vibe, beautifully decorated followed by incredibly friendly staff! Made us feel very welcome during our stay. Food was delicious, well above what I was expecting. Fantastic all round. Parking may be a bit tricky however.

We visited for lunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I ordered ham, egg and chips, my father the lasagna. Both were generous sized portions. My only comment would be the eggs were served on the cold ham and quickly cooled. For dessert I had a chocolate fondant that was slightly over-cooked, only just soft in the centre. We both had the Village Ale, which was a delicious pint.

We booked here for a family meal and had the Christmas menu. The booking was for 19 and the management of our booking was excellent. The food was really good and unlike lots of other places we have eaten all our meals arrived together and were hot!! the standard of food was great with a varied choice for all our needs not just the one token vegetarian choice and reasonably priced. The service was attentive and timely ..... all in all a big hit, would highly recommend for lovely pub food with a warm welcome.

What a great place! The food was lovely, a bit of a wait between courses but when the food is cooked to order it's understandable and it gave us a chance to chat and catch up while we waited. This is a difficult one. Went here for Sunday lunch 11/11. Staff and service very good. Problem was description of the food. We ordered Roast Chicken. The menu stated Half a Chicken Crown. We got Chicken portions. The Roast potatoes were hard as was the veg. Had to ask for extra gravy 3 times. We were then asked very politely if we were finished because some other people were waiting for our table. We weren't there that long so a little disappointed. The Chicken was lovely if wrongly described. Unfortunately will not be returning.

Our 4th visit this December to The Railway Inn Botley and the service has been excellent each time and the food and drink has been fabulous. All visits have been in groups of 4, 6 and 9 and each time the food has arrived promptly and hot and with very generous portions. Make sure you are hungry when you come!! Very extensive menu with specials board too. Food always has been cooked beautifully. Excellent friendly service. Thank you to Elaine and Kay for going above and beyond to ensure your visit it an enjoyable one!! You have both been SO busy over December but service is always with a smile and you always make time for a chat. Thank you and Happy Christmas!!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. A good and ever changing choice of independent ales too!! Will definitely go back again in the not too distant future. They hosted and catered for a funeral of a friend. The food was more original than the usual “beige” buffet and the cake was home made. This is the second time i have been to the Railway Inn within 10 years. New owners took over 3 years ago and i have to say it is brilliant. The feel of the place is great and we went on a night when they had a live band playing which was fun and enjoyable to watch. The food is fantastic with generous portion sizes. We only went there expecting to have a main but ended up with us ordering 3 courses each! Yes the menu is a bit on the pricey side but you centrally get your monies worth!! Lovely pub, great beef roast. Ordered apple and berry crumble with custard, looked impressive, however, topping was entirely crushed digestive biscuits. Asked why this was as very disappointed, should have not accepted it. Was told they ran out of crumble topping so substituted with crushed biscuits!! Any chef knows its not difficult to russle up a buttery crumble topping. Failing that just say they've ran out. Would have chosen something else. What would have been accepted was a refund at least. Will return but will definitely question in future.
