This was a very lucky find and whilst it may not be promising on the outside the inside is very clean, tidy and the food is exceptionally good. The ingredients are fresh, especially the salad and fries plus the vegan and gluten free options where very helpful for us. Recommend to everyone who loves pub food to its finest 👌🏻 Thank you for a very delicious meal!

Found this pub by accident but was very happy too. The kitchen didn't open until 5pm but as we just wanted a drink, this wasn't a problem. I was great to find a guvnor that was proud of his cellar work and it showed as the beer was top notch. Very friendly pub with great staff. We will be returning.

Great pub for a burger meal! Visited a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised. When going for pub food I usually do not expect much, but in this case, oh my god! Very good burger selection (including vegan option). The portions were TOO big, we kind of struggled to finish them, so be careful with ordering. Having said that, everything was delicious! For me, the star of the show was definitely the cheese+garlic fries, super delicious and cheese/garlic was running through them, not only on top. Also, the cherry jam in the Heart attack at 63 burger was divine! Definitely recommend, especially for burger lovers and huge portion lovers!

We had a small incident with one of the plates but we treated better that what we would expected. Great friendly staff and very helpful. I had the vegan burger with sweet potato and beans patty and sweet potato fries just brilliant! My partner had a bead burger with black pudding and blue cheese he absolutely loved his too. We definitely recommend it and we will be back soon. Parking next to the pub is up to an hour but there’s other roads around for up to two hours parking.

Amazing food. Incredible selection for vegans and vegetarians (and if you're a veggie, you'll know that you usually have a choice of 1 or 2 items. This place must have had 30!!). Yes, it's pretty much all burgers, but they are seriously gourmet burgers! I had the volcano ii converted to vegan and I've got to say that it is the first time that a restaurant had ever made something for me that is actually fiery enough! Made a very good excuse to sample some of the excellent beer to try and cool down! We had intended to have dessert but after the monster starters and colossal mains, there wasn't any room left!

Read the reviews and decided to give them a visit. Very very comfortable settings, left alone to look at menu. Food was ordered and delivered really quick. WHAT A BURGER, you will not be disappointed. Hands down the best burger in Southampton. You will need to book Monday and Tuesday on burger nights. Looking around the bar each table was double booked for the whole evening.

The burgers here were incredible!! We were just driving through and had to stop for lunch so after a quick google we wound up here. Wasn’t expecting to have such an amazing meal! I had the beef burger with cheddar cheese and it was honestly the best burger I’ve had in years. Cooked to perfection and on the most delicious tiger bread bun. My partner also really enjoyed his chicken burger. At first we thought it was closed but turns out the outdoor seating is out the back, not the front. The staff were super friendly and although it was cold and drizzly we were warm under a heater. If we’re ever back in Southampton we’ll definitely be returning!

We've spent here a nice family evening with some friends and families. Nice atmosphere, exceptional service. Friendly staff and the manager, Blanca with a bubbly personality, made us feel very welcomed. Nice garden, music, lot's of drinks to choose from, quality food .... Our kids had also an amazing time in the garden arranged for Halloween. Definitely we are going again and definitely l recommend The Rockstone.

Interesting pub. Good layout able to seat large groups for food. The menu is beef or chicken burgers, but also some good options for vegetarians (plus gluten free option). Lots of real ale choices, and a large choice of ciders. I had a hell boy beef burger (with chillies). Couldn't finish all the burger, it's really big. And I drunk Unity Nocturne. A dark rich beer (slightly similar to Guiness, but a rich flavour, slightly fruity. After our meals were brought to us, there were 12 of us, we didn't see the staff again and they didn't clear our table. Shame as it was a great place. They were busy on this Friday night with 3 barmaids looking after the busy bar. There is seating out the front, and a pub garden. Some parking is handy in a small public car park opposite Lidls, 2 minutes walk from the pub on the same main road.

Excellent vegan food during the "vegan fortnight" January 2018. Booking is advised as there are few tables and all were booked during our visit, we were lucky enough to visit very early evening and thus sit at a table book for a later diner. Good choice of beer. Not a large pub. 2022 and the pub is no longer 4 stars but now 3 stars. The menu is greatly reduced in choice, though want I ate was very nice. The bar is under staffed and really needs another bar server to avoid the slow delivery of drinks.

After choosing to meet some friends who work at this classic retro style pub. I was amazed to see the creative menu and well balanced dietary preferences. The many options of topping certainly extend past your burger too as the Head Chef Katie (known as Spud to her colleagues and friends) explained. "If you want mac n cheese ontop your fries? Sure thing. If youd like a fried egg ontop your suated potatoes? Go for it. Fancy not just cheesey garlic bread but bacon or chorizo too? We can do it." Is the quote i got from Spud and her team. As for the drink side welll i mostly enjoy a nice whiskey but after previous visits drinking. You definitely have to look into there different beers and dont forget thos lush cocktails. 😉 with a good range of ciders, largers, wines and Ales that change every few weeks. There plenty of choice. My personal favourites would be the jammy doger shooter hat definitely tastes like the classic biscuits 😋 . All in all go down and give them i try the landlady flavia dose her very best to make sure everything goes well and you enjoy the experience

Was pleased when when I've been recently as the new owners are really nice, and have had some really nice exchanges with the staff when I've been for drinks - I go maybe about two/three times a month for drinks? However not been for food since the new owners took over until last night, but was pretty amazed that they've re-done the menu the way they have. The Rockstone has been known in Southampton as a place to get the best burgers in town (arguably), then menu was great before and had loads of great beef, chicken and vegan options. Lots of combos, and great loaded fries/sides. As a caveat, I am not 100% if it was just a smaller menu as it was a Friday night when we went there, but it's been drastically reduced and the format of the menu is all a bit unnecessary. Example: It's £13.50 for the basic burger (and chips). You then have a long list of (admittedly tasty) additions you can add in in to your burger. It quickly stacks up. They're all additions between £0,50 and £3, I can't remember exactly, but the ones that stood out, Avocado +£2, Cheese +£1, Bacon +£1, BBQ Pork +£3. Anyway, quickly the totals add up if you want a burger comparable to some of the old menu creations . Generally seems like it's too much to ask for £2 addition for what ended up being a couple slices of avocado on a burger? Not to criticize too much, the food was pretty good, and the chips are definitely better, I'd also like to say again that the staff and establishment is great and the drinks are a solid price. However it seems a bit crazy to me that such an institution has had such a change - maybe they couldn't keep the old menu for some reason? Or perhaps the sheer extent of the old menu wasn't that profitable? This seems like a step in the wrong direction in any case. Not to be too lazy, but would be nice if they had some sort of concise menu or burger options instead of a create your own only menu - (its the same format for their loaded fries too so you end up wondering why it is £1.50 to add olives on loaded fries, and then the same price to add them on a burger, surely different quantities are used?). Maybe a more complete menu is coming, and maybe things improve over time, but felt this review would be a signal to previous customers expecting the old rockstone burgers.. that they're not. Obviously things change and I'd be fine with the changes the new owners have made if they made a few tweaks (like i say, the food was nice). Tldr: Sadly the Rockstone appears to be turning into a more generic pub - nice as it is, and less of a great food establishment in the city. I'll be back for a beer soon I'm sure.

Edit: under new management now. Nothing to write home about. I can't recommend this pub highly enough. Their burgers and steaks are amazing. The prices are reasonable (except on Wednesdays when they are even better: 30% off for students) I encourage any gluten free diner to try this pub. Their chefs understand coeliac and so you can enjoy a nice burger in a bun with a side of onion rings with no worries. I love eating here, it's just a wonderful atmosphere with lovely staff, excellent food and great drinks. Can't go wrong.

I'd recommend The Rockstone if you're already out having drinks and want a bit to eat on the side, but we wanted a chill meal out and hadn't realised that it was a pub that seemed like it was for pre drinking or clubbing. We were placed right next to a very loud DJ, surrounded by loud customers and found it hard to hear each other. This place gets a star for the lovely staff members, a star for the nice food, and a star for the speed of service. However, along with the volume and business of the pub, the chorizo in my burger tasted cheap compared to the lovely other ingredients in there and the bits on the side, it was on the expensive side, we had to remind them we had ordered onion rings. (We did book this table for a Saturday evening)

It is often attended by younger locals, but is also family friendly.However if you order food, whilst it is delicious it is very heavy, so consider this when ordering drinks. The portions are huge also. My partner who is vegan wasn't to keen on the vegan 'pulled pork' burger, however I enjoyed mine, albeit unable to finish the meal.

I feel like this place should come with a warning: huge portions!! Rockstone's have a great selection of burgers. I went for the last 63" burger, which came with a beef patty, grilled chicken breast, pulled pork and pickles. I also tried the 'heart attack at 63' burger, which had a waffle instead of brioche buns. Very interesting although a little sweet for me.

Food was really great and staff/customer service matched apart from the place wasn't that tidy and clean. If it was a bit cleaner I'd definitely give it 5 stars. My wife is a vegetarian and she has a lot of choice here compared to most places. Burger was one of the best I've had. Would love to go back on a day with better weather and have a seat outside, Even though it's right on a busy road. Parking situation is not good either.

Nice little pub with lots of choice for drinks and food. Amazing chicken strips (super crispy batter) very pricey burgers l. Didn't try them as some were 16 quid a go so I can't comment to how good they are or if they're worth that price. They had lots of ales and Asahi on tap! But it wasn't on when I went. No parking- can stop for one hour on the road at side of pub. They have a beer "garden" (benches outside)

I'm pretty much a vegetarian, mainly because I find the taste of meat absolutely disgusting. Not really something I wanted more so just gone off meat. I loved a good burger but in the past few years I tend to want a burger but when I'm eating feel sick over pulling bits of bone and fat out of my mouth. I thought I try a burger here and my god first time I sat down and enjoyed every single bite without hesitation of spitting out the disgusting bits. The meat they use is extremely good quality and as much as I don't like eating meat, I'd happily slaughter a cow with a tooth pick for this place to make burgers out of it.

We visit this pub/restaurant on occasions when we meet our friends that live in Southampton - they always recommend it highly as great wide selection of meals including plenty of choice for vegetarians/vegans. Hellboy burger may be the best burger I've ever tasted! Service could've been a bit quicker but that's understandable given we have visited mainly on weekend evenings. Will definitely be going back!

First time at the rockstone (to eat) and I have to say VERY IMPRESSED! The burger was HUGE (i went for the barbossa with jerk chicken and pineapple on top) and absolutely delicious. It certainly lived up to the hype. I would say that you get far too many chips with it so it is a BIG meal (but that might not be a criticism for some!) Great selection of drinks, and very pleased to see Meantime Yakima Red on tap. Delicious. Not cheap, but for the amount of food on the plate, not badly priced either. One note tonight... I left my sunglasses there and the young lad that works there walked up the road to us waiting at bus stop to return them to me. Great service! Highly recommended, and can't believe it took me so long to visit!

Went to the Rockstone for the first time today. I had a burger and my partner who is a vegetarian asked for a combination of two burgers made into one large vegetarian burger. The staff couldn't do enough to help us and the plates of food that was delivered to us was not only massive but tasted amazing. I would definitely be going back there and would recommend the Rockstone to anybody looking for a friendly pub that serves delicious food.

Overrated burgers that taste like they are made from cheap mince and have a huge load of black pepper added to cover up that fact. Due to that, it makes eating them a chore because they are huge and not very nice, and rather expensive. They look impressive, but don't be fooled. They couldn't even cook mine medium rare, which was slightly hilarious considering its size. Otherwise great selection of drinks (many of which are overpriced) and friendly staff.

Best burgers around!!!! Went for the 2 for 22 deal on a Tuesday and it was amazing!!!! I had more cheese gromit and the other half had some deathly hot one (forgotten the name) my only criticism is that the sides that cone with the burgers (chips and salad) could do two people there was alot of left overs on our table of 8. An unusual pub experience. Table service for drinks, pay at the end. It was good but it really threw me. We went on a Monday. It was billed on their website as open mic night, this was half true. They were open, but there was no mic to be seen. This wasn't the reason for our visit so it made no difference to me but if you are going with your guitar in hand in the hope of being spotted by a talent scout then you could be disappointed. They seem to specialise in burgers, and the stream of them which kept coming out looked good, as well as big. The Volcano is billed as being their ultimate hot offering, a claim most places can't back up when it comes down to it. Not here though. I saw a guy obviously struggling with his burger and figured it must be a Volcano so I asked him if it was hot. He offered me a piece to try. This was a total stranger, and total strangers don't often share their food with you, this was an indication of what was to come. Anyway, being a sucker for free food as well as hot food I snatched his hand off. All I can say is the Volcano is not for the faint of heart. The poor guy who shared his with me couldn't finish his, and when they offered to box it up for him to take home he came up with some half arsed excuse as to why he didn't want them to. If you like hot food then go for it, if you are a pretender to the throne then give it a miss. Outside the pub is a small garden in the rear, it's semi covered and has a few cushioned benches to sit on. There is an outdoor pizza oven but it wasn't doing anything when we were there. Although the garden is small it was a nice space to be in, which you enter through the smallest door in the world. It's a nice pub, little bit quirky but that's what I liked about it.

Upon entering the Rockstone we were greeted by songs from out childhood! The mighty mighty bosstones, rancid, the pixies and more. There was one guy behind the bar clad in black with a gray flat cap whom I asked about their famous burgers. He recommended the hellboy and my wife had a plain ish burger with bacon and sweet potato fries. When the food came out I was amazed at the size of the burger, seriously taken aback it was effing huge and had chilli's, cheese and thick cut chorizo spilling out of its sides. The fries were great, the table sauces were unlabeled and possibly home made, which was interesting and quite delicious! But the burger, oh my gods! It was the greatest burger I have ever eaten. If that thing had been my final meal I would have died a happy and somewhat bloated man. The burger itself was moist, charred and slight pink in the middle, the way a burger should be. The fresh chilli gave a nice sweetness and bite, the chorizo a smokiness followed by a rich cheese and tasty sauce. Seriously I'm getting hungry thinking about it. I will say its not the cheapest place on earth but frick, you get what you pay for without a doubt. Sadly we had to eat and leave quite quickly and it was a lunch time so I didn't get to sample the many ales and ciders they had to offer. But I will definitely be going back to do so. 10/10
