Reviews of The Station

Since I was last here they have really picked up the ball. Refurbishment is stunning inside and out. Beer garden is great with lots of natural wood finishes and seating for easily over 100 people. I'm impressed well done! When you have finished training the staff the 5th star is yours

Hadn’t been into the pub for a while as the atmosphere wasn’t very good. Upon hearing there was new management, we decided to give it another go, & we were quite surprised how Caroline & Mark had turned things around, with a much more welcoming & comfortable visit. We hope they stay, & would love to see them get the food up & running again. Edit. Caroline & Mark are no longer running the pub, & it is undergoing a refurbishment. We wish the incoming landlady all the best, & hope to enjoy the same friendly atmosphere again soon.

This place has just reopened at what a difference!! Food is delicious and the staff are so friendly!! Happy day's!! Would highly recommend!!!

What a difference good management makes!
My visits to the station pub had declined over the past couple of years due to bad management and bad atmosphere. But now thoroughly enjoy my weekly visits.
Caroline and Mark are a great team and the pub is a much more pleasant place to drink.
A. F.
By far the best pub I've ever visited, the owners are amazing and the bar staff exceptional its a live place to go for a couple or spend the whole evening karaoke on a Friday or for live sport would recommend to anyone
E. M.
Not too busy, so no queues at the bar. Bar staff Pleasent. Ladies toilets nice and clean

Looking great! Good beer! Good Atmosphere!

Lovey pub by Bitterne Station. Good selection of drinks. Friendly staff and shows all major sports
M. T. J. M.
Very friendly pub, under new management which has improved it vastly. Decent prices ideal for family's and also for having a drink and watching sports. Great outside garden facilities overall brilliant for the whole family

Popped in Sunday lunchtime hoping to get some lunch..lovely extensive menu..one of us had roast beef and the other a jacket potato;both were delicious and good size portions.
The lady serving was really friendly and pleasant but not 'in our faces'!..perfect.
We really liked the decor too..slightly eclectic but very comfy and homely at the same time.
Will definitely come again.

Great local pub with a new amazing atmosphere I've eaten there 3 times and there menu caters for every one.
looking forward to there new start to live music in the area. Kev and Rich are so welcoming to all .If I have 1 negative no drink deals on spirits

I’ve lived nearby but haven’t been inside this pub for years. Wow! What a difference the new manager and her team have made! I just popped in for a meal and found the best food I’ve eaten for a long time. This isn’t just pub food, it’s gourmet standard, equal to the best restaurants within a 50 mile radius. The chef is outstanding. With a regularly changing menu it’s unlikey you’ll get bored eating here. Whether you’re alone or you want to bring the family you will find something on the menu to please everyone. Don’t be put off because it’s a pub. The restaurant section functions as a dedicated restaurant so bring the kids - they’ll love it.
Moving to the pub section, I found it friendly and welcoming. The bar staff are extremely efficient so service is great. My favorite barmaid is Sam (Samantha) who’s demonstrated an amazing memory for orders but all the staff are great fun.
Youngsters flock to the bar weekends before heading off to the late night clubs in town so it can get busy between 7.30 and 9.30pm.
Whether it’s for a group party or a quiet drink with a friend you’ll find there’s a spot in this place that’s just right for you. Don’t delay, go see for yourself!

Stopped in with a friend prior to the Southampton - Liverpool match and had a great time. As an American, it was all I would expect from a nice English Pub before a game. The staff was nice and helpful, it was open and clean. Didn't have food but the drinks were nice and it was a simple walk from there to the stadium. Loved it.

Have been coming to this pub for a long time and I must say the staff are incredibly welcoming and offer a wide range on the menu. On busy Sundays the staff always give an estimate time of food so that expectations are managed. Love this place! The lady manager and chef are always both so friendly.

Outdoor seating, with an undercover area, food was lovely and the service was with a smile! Only thing was it was cold but they did supply small blankets!

I visited this place on my way to an interview and was welcomed by the proprietor and made to feel at home. The establishment is clean and freshly refurbished with a look of care and attention to detail.
I enjoyed speaking to the locals and staff who were polite but not overly. Another great thing is dogs are welcome too. ( Water bowl in pub).
The proprietor even kindly gave me a free coffee to keep me warm on my journey home, as where it was so nice warm and friendly, I returned there for some scrummy Nacho's (only 4.99) before catching a train home. It may be situated on a junction but it is welcoming and warm. All welcome there definitely.

Great pub, food is great new menu is good value. Have eaten here a number of times. Will definitely come back. I would recommend to anyone who wants to have a drink with friends, watch the football, or take family for some dinner.
u.
Great place. Many memories, had my first legal pint here pint here swiftly followed by another 🍻

Had got some of it's charm back. Good food presented well. We visited in a night when the Saints were playing so very busy, food took ages to arrive, but worth the wait. Clean, some very polite staff, others like all pubs need a a little customer service training, just little things like acknowledging a customer is waiting, and telling them they'll be there as soon as possible, but with a smile! It's only a small point hopefully helping this to become a busy pub.
K. S.
6 + little one popped in for a bite to eat and drink for son-in-laws birthday. Ended up having 3 courses + drinks and we could not fault the place. Good atmosphere, superb food, well cooked and plentiful and good service. We will certainly make this more of a destination 😊
C. S.
Overall the pub is quite nice, the staff are friendly and the food isn't too bad (though could do with proper chips rather than fries). However, the pub could do with a little sprucing up in places.
Currently the pub is very much a 'Regulars Pub' however easily has the potential for much more.
K. B.
Very nice place we stumbled on while walking through Southampton. Had a few pints £4 each and a very nice yorkshire pudding (in a tortilla fashion!) wrap with beef roast and gravy. Witty composition, total positive surprise. Nice, fresh and tasty! For the cost of £7.50 as a dinner set witch chips and peas. Chips bucket with roasted beef ends and house BBQ source is definitely worth the £3. Will come back if im ever in Southampton!
R. P.
VERY large and airy venue. Super competitive pricing and super friendly and welcoming staff...I was served by lovely young lady, with beautiful long hair...certainly brightened up my day.
Free WiFi, free car park, almost outside the pub, live sports on multiple TV's. Usual pub fare, but we'll presented.
Worth a visit and recommended.
E. L.
Nice place on a key location. They have good food and lots of beer. Staff were all friendly. Prices are decent. And they have outdoor space which I think it's brilliant!
S. D.
It's a nice place to hangout with your friends/ family/ colleagues. It's English styled. Yummy food. The ladies washroom is haunted as per the listed haunted places in Southampton. The pub bar is just outside the station.
R. A.
Along with the old Bitterne Park Hotel one of the best 2 pubs in the world, friendly staff and good atmosphere.
M. B.
Great for a quick pint or football matches. Versatile and large enough to have a more family area at one end. Really good and not too busy on a weekday evening.
B. V.
Nice pub and staff friendly. Lost a star as no fish on the menu. Not many special offers on double spirits as these cost as much as the lunch did.
J. H.
This pub is now under new management and is getting better every day.
R. C.
Had a great time friendly staff good beer
J. L.
Delightful staff and delicious food. They were great assistance to us during a car breakdown; so nice, we stayed for a wonderful meal. Kudos to all the staff!!!
L. K.
Nice pub.
Friendly staff.
Leona is by far, the best barmaid / manageress, and knows how to pull a Guiness properly.
Good food made by Merek, and just a simple family friendly chill out pub.
a.
Best pub in the world.
C. L.
What a lovely quaint place... it felt empty and cold to start with but the friendly waitress drastically changed the atmosphere. Good food and reasonable prices.
I. W.
Only popped in for lunch and a pint. Service was very good. Food was well priced and good quality. The Bitterne Best beer was very good indeed. Need to visit more and will certainly be back.
G. W.
Great food, service and friendly staff. Live round the corner and don't really have any reason to travel for a meal when I can eat, drink and walk home. Happy days
L.
Great friendly pub. Staff and landlady make you feel welcome. Poker darts pool and sport. What more do you need. Oh live music too.
I. M.
Friendly atmosphere, large pub with seating always available, Pool Table and darts! Food Available, Beer Garden with outside TV and Heaters, Sky Sports and BT Sport, the Perfect Local!
A. L.
Great atmosphere, great staff. Nice big open sitting area with large garden. Outside screens for match days. Spot on

Large Victorian corner location pub which is claimed to have been built around 1880 to serve the nearby station which opened in 1866. The Cobden Bridge Brewery which appears to have first owned it, opened in 1890, and the first buildings in the area, other than the station, were built in 1890, so perhaps there was a mistake in the date?
The Cobden Bridge Brewery was bought by Fullers in 1898, who sold the pub to Courage in 1920. The Spirit Group acquired the pub in 2003, and currently run it under the John Barras brand.
It is a solid building, but the original brickwork has been covered in render, and rather ugly and distracting blue signs have been put up, so the sense of the pub's past has been lost. Inside all the downstairs rooms have been knocked into one, and extended into what appears to have been originally a separate building at a slightly lower level - this is now used as the family dining area, though children (and eating) are allowed in all areas. There is some sense of the original Victorian hotel left in little places - the large windows, the door entrances, etc, but mainly what is left is a large space. When there are not many customers this can feel a little hollow and lacking in atmosphere, but when people turn up, there's a warm buzz of conversation.
Board games are provided for children, but they are missing many parts, and most are due for replacement. Two cask ales: the regular Hobgoblin, and a guest, which on our visit would have been Speckled Hen, but it was off. Background music is not too loud, and on our visit was varied and pleasant, including music by Curtis Mayfield. Food is fairly standard pub grub, but we waited a disproportionate amount of time for our order on a quiet afternoon, and it had to be chased up. One plate was cold, and the food on it was rapidly cooling.
Overall an OK pub. There's nothing much to commend it, but nothing here to put people off. If waiting here for a train, be cautious about ordering food.
J. C.
Large bar, friendly staff. Nice food at reasonable prices. Can be busy on some match days and car park a little on the small side
