Can't fault it. Had a few good meals here. It isn't posh grub, but for the price and size of the portions you really can't complain! Staff are always friendly and it's clean and tidy inside. Will definitely return time and time again

visited the Village Inn tonight , 3 adults and a 2 1/2 year old. warm welcome, great service and atmosphere . Food was super hot and very tasty, good value for money too. the manager was very helpful and courteous and the whole place seemed to be running very smoothly under his guidance. well done and we will return, highly recommended !

Haven't eaten here for a couple of years as it wasn't great previously, however my daughter and I stopped in for dinner this evening after getting off the train and having a long wet and windy day in Southampton, we ordered food, drinks and pudding and I couldn't fault it at all, the staff were absolutely lovely and very welcoming as well, it finished off a lovely day with my daughter. Slightly disappointing Sunday roast. Tasteless vegetables which apart from the parsnip weren't fresh. Asked for horseradish sauce, jar brought to table no spoon and it had been opened and already used. Cheap but not a good meal.

They are doing their best. Good points are great parking, good location, hanging baskets maintained nicely, staff friendly, food has been fine too. Down side not sure of opening times, dis-abled access is do-able but hard, so needs to be easier bearing in mind it's next to a nursing home, fix the coffee and tea stuff, gardens need sprucing....looking tired, understandably.

Booked table for today 5th December for 6 people to celebrate my grandson's 12th birthday. Meals were great, few choices weren't available but that's expected at the moment. Really lovely staff and fantastic value for money, everyone ate everything on their plates, a great family place to go. I have been many times and will definitely continue to do so.

What a lovely surprise After just coming from a horrible experience at The Cricketers pub in Eastleigh we arrived at The Village Inn We were made to feel welcome straight away by the friendly staff There was an appologetic notice on the door saying due to covid they were understaffed so no dinner would be served until later Because we were on our way to a Carol service & hadn't eaten Hubby asked about food The lovely young lady said she would ask & came back with a Yes and helped us find a table Her can do attitude was very welcome We enjoyed two hot dinners in a warm cosy and quite busy pub Just what we needed Thank you to The Village Inn we feel you went above & beyond

This is not the first time that they have run out of numerous items on the menu, now sat in Fishermans Rest,Green King Old English inns ordered no problem .Buck up or close down. 04 05 22. Well things have improved in some areas but the food is (steak pie) lacking in flavour and content.Staff very good.

The pub was super busy when I popped in and the queue was huge but the staff handled it well and served everyone very quickly. If you park in the car park, don't forget to register your vehicle inside.

I was not overly impressed. The pub itself is well kept and tidy, even the customer WC were kept to a high standard. The food was acceptable in quality, quantity, and price. However the staff left a lot to be desired. It is not unusual in pubs now to have to order at the bar, but the staff were stood talking whilst customers were left waiting, the staff were brusque and acted as if inconvenienced by customers wanting service. When there were a number of customers who had been waiting along the bar, the staff called them to come along the bar to the till whilst they stood leaning on the wall. Altogether a poor standard of hospitality.

Starters where ok, mains not so great. No check backs even though pub was dead. Katsu curry burger had a slither of katsu sauce on the burger,covering very thinly a half of the top bun. If this is the amount that is in a katsu burger then m&b / ember inns should look at how they advertise products. Probably the place for drinks not a meal. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for food as staff seemed uninterested.

Great value for money. Service was good and food was well prepared. I ordered my steak rare and for the first time in England it was done the way I wanted it. The rest of my family enjoyed the food as well. We had a lovely time. Will definitely return. Well done!

Very busy pub. Hit and miss with the amount of staff they have on. Sometimes it's dead and they as re hunting for jobs. Last night was like a Christmas Eve. Queues at the bar to wait to order drinks, food. An hour after ordering the food arrived. It's was good, but not sure it was worth the wait. Great advantage is that they welcome well behaved dogs.

Five star pub, restaurant. Recommended. Mum's birthday, so we were looking for a good pub, with good food and sensible prices. So out comes Google, and shuffle through several local pubs. Brother came over to drive us to our chosen venue and after a quick chat suggested the Village Inn at Park gate, as he had been there in the past and was very pleased with the place. Well he wasn't wrong. What a great place. The food was cooked to a standard where the chef obviously took pride in his trade, excellent. The food cooked just to our liking, was served on warm plates, delivered to our table in a very short time by a very friendly waitress and the portions were just perfect, though I did feel a bit like Adam Richman from the T.V. program Man verses food, whilst trying to finish the pubs biggest meal served, the mixed grill. One of the cheapest mixed grills I have eaten in a restaurant for some time, great value. We visited 1.30 p.m, the pub had a light trade, and judging by all the other diners they all seemed very happy. Five stars, recommended. Just one thing."Be warned" the pubs car parking system. If you don't log the car in with in ten minuets, or like some unsuspecting visitors forget all together you'll cop a £60 parking fine. But we found the staff were very helpful, showing us how to log our car in.

Such a Refreshing Change! A new Manager, and a refreshed team…what a remarkable difference. The vibe is great, the service is excellent, and the two new members of staff I met were magnificent! Arshan & Hailie - two new members of the team have helped revolutionise the place. The table next to me were an horrendous family - the mess they made was vile! Arshan and Hailie just got on with cleaning it up, and took it in their stride. What assets to the new team! Great recruitment! Will visit again soon!

A couple of days before Lockdown 2, the pub was quite busy and naturally running out of things on the menu. I got my third choice! 😁 The staff coped well under pressure, and we're friendly and helpful.

Lovely spacious interior, even when it is really busy you do not feel cramped. Large seated garden overlooking fields and woodland. Disabled accessible. Large car park, pay and display but the pub reimburse parking charges (to stop people parking there that use the train station close by) no noise of trains! Great selection on the menu with food served all day, every day. Special lunchtime and brunch menu also available. Food is fresh, hot (where applicable) well presented and plentiful for a normal apetite. Starters, main meals, extra sides, desserts, tea and coffee. Order at the bar with table number, all foods served at your table. Staff are very accommodating if you are unable to do this. Child friendly for meals. No play equipment in garden for safety.

Great pub, great food, good size garden and loads of convenient parking as well. 75% of the time the customer service in here is spot on. However on the busier nights, Friday, Saturday. some of the staff seem to forget that they are in a work place and are there to serve customers. I like visiting on a regular as it a nice convenient place to enjoy one of their many ales, larger, wines and spirits. Not forgetting a meal or 2 as well. The food is seriously good in here, and food services (once ordered) is really quick. Hopefully in the near future i will be able to upgrade this to a 5 star

Very nice place and attentive staff. Party of 6, 1 out of 6 of the party didn't care for her food much. The patotoes tasted like fish and hard, the vegetables were stringy, but the meat was lovely. Ordered a dessert and it was all delicious.

Had a wonderful time at the Village inn. Birthday girl. My son recomended the place and as he was paying, so who could argue. My self and two sons enjoyed exelent meals (loved the warm plates) three meals well presented, the chef clearly knows his trade. The mixed grill, the cheapest I have seen in any pub. I didn't think my eldest son was going to be able to finish. But some how he managed. The staff were friendly and helpful, the drinks very good, what a great selection of real ales and from what my youngest son said. He couldn't believe how reasonable the bill was. The restarant wasn't that busy 1.30 p.m. esaly run by the two staff on shift and clearly all the other customers ln the pub were having a good experience also. Thanks to the waitress who helped us log into the car park, a little confusing for a daft old pensioner. Five stars to the staff and the Village inn pub Julia Robbins. Well be back.

We use the Village Inn as our regular meeting place for our reunions. There is a good selection of beers and an excellent menu. But if you arrive by car make sure you heed the notices and enter your registration on the screen by the bar. This is to keep the car park clear for customers and to prevent railway commuters parking for the day. Easily forgotten and you will get a hefty fine from the company operating the car park.

This is my local place to eat and drink. It has recently been refurbished and offers a lovely place to get together with friends and family. The open log like fires although not real adds a nice extra to the venue. It now has cosy sofas which you can enjoy a drink on and dining areas. Children are allowed but it caters more for older children and adults, I personally prefer this. They are very reasonably priced and I would come from further a field to dine here

Nice local pub ! Good Beer foods nice & STAFF our lovely. Hey ! I noticed the prices have gone up #justsaying but still nice place... ? Funny Car Park Rules as you have to buy a ticket to park in the pubs cat park ! Oddly I understand people at the Railway Station abuse the car park but you get fined if you do not pay & display ! It's put me off as I don't always have change on me if I suggest to meet business peers at the Pub for Lunch, so we often end up at pubs like the The Rising Sun were it's free to park. Just Saying.

Great Pub. I enjoy going there for lunch. Ham, egg and chips followed by apple pie for dessert is highly recommended. This place is dog and children friendly. You must pay for parking, but this can be refunded after purchasing food or drink from the bar.

Very nice food, and good service. As the car park is easy walking distance to the train station, you need to pay £2 for parking. It would be a nice touch if this was deducted from your order automatically though, rather than having to ask staff yourself.

Usually this is a popular place and the food is reasonably good. However, of you don't carry cash you will not be able to eat here. There is a pay and display system in the car park. Ok, you get the £2 back in the form of a discount of your bill but today we had no change. There is a cash machine in the pub but that charges almost as much as you pay to park just to get money out to pay to park!! I get that the system is in place to prevent drivers abusing the parking location for daily commuting or work but why not just issue genuine visitors/ diners a parking permit?? The person behind the bar was disinterested and unhelpful. We left to find a cash machine where but actually felt such negativity we went somewhere better. I wonder how much other business The Village Inn has lost in this way. Not very customer friendly at all. I'm writing this from The Navigator down the road in Swanick - much nicer atmosphere.

After a disappointing meal at another local pub, we decided to visit here for Sunday lunch. Very reasonably priced, tasty food and friendly bar staff. My husband I along with four friends had lunch at the village inn today, we ordered 1fish and chips, 1ribs 1 chicken pie, 2 x steaks and I ordered grilled sea bass with new potatoes and green beans I was informed there was no new potatoes as they hadn't been delivered was offered jacket , mash or chips none of which I am very fond of, but chose the jacket . The fish was cooked ok but the skin soft instead of crispy the green beans were hard and the jacked potato skin again was soft instead of being crispy probably cooked in the microwave, both of the steaks were a bit chewy but the other three meals were very much enjoyed and the desserts were lovely, such a shame because mine could have been lovely with a little more thought. When we got there we were welcomed by the staff as we had reserved our table then we had drinks and we got told that the landlord was on his own due to being let down yet our food came out as ordered and it was beautiful from starter to desert so we had a really good time and from one chef to another I know what it's like to have to muck in when needed thank you!!!
