SUNDAY CARVERY IS REASONABLY GOOD We sat in the conservatory which is the best eating area in this pub with views over the countryside. We were first-time visitors. One meat-eater and one vegetarian. The veggie choice bizarrely was Mediterranean risotto which doesn't really match a carvery but tasted good according to my partner and had lots of flavour. This included helping yourself to carvery veg on a separate plate. Cost £9.95 I had beef and turkey as a meat-eater. First observation is that the meat portion you get is fairly SMALL. One slice of turkey, one slice of beef and the carver tried to cut it as thin as possible. The meat was soft and tender and good quality. I could have done with MORE meat. There's a large veg selection, but a lot of the veggies looked ordinary, with the exception of the cauliflower and broccoli cheese bake which looked and tasted great. I also had sprouts which were just okay. The roast potatoes were pretty okay, fairly crispy but could've been more so and tasted okay. The stuffing ball was good and had sausage meat in it. The yorkie pud was not good and was stodgy. The gravy was okay. Horseradish sauce was good. Cost £9.95 Will we return soon? Cannot make my mind up so not sure!!!

Me and hubby visited here last night after recommendation from friends . The service was excellent , the pub spotless , the food was amazing . Cannot speak highly enough of this pub and the Owner who was friendly and appreciative . Defo going again

We have today tried the Sunday Carvery. I must say best carvery I have ever had. Food was all Excellent, meat and vegetables cooked to perfection. Lovely spacious dining area with views of the surrounding countryside. Staff were very polite, professional and friendly. In all it would be a 10/10. We will certainly be returning and highly recommend to others. Thank you fox & Goose and well done.

Lovely countryside pub with great views.Popped in on the off chance of getting a Sunday lunch and we were accommodated very quickly and efficiently. Had a beautiful carvery,very generous portions with a great selection of vegetables at a very reasonable price.2 adult plates, 2 pints of real ale,all for £25!!!!..Friendly service,we will definitely be visiting again very soon!!!!

We stayed at a local b&b as we were going to Alton towers the next day, we decided to go here for evening food and it was delicious. The pub as a whole has a lovely atmosphere very old style with a log burner going, fantastic prices, friendly staff and it's always nice to see a dog friendly pub, saw some beautiful dogs while we were here. The food menu is quite small but I imagine it's all beautiful, I ordered the hunters chicken with mash and veg with onion rings and halloumi fries as a side and that meal was amazing, you can tell it is all home made, very tasty, the food alone makes me want to come back. Cant wait to come back when we have our next visit to Alton towers. In short, a fantastic, friendly, welcoming pub with great food!

Brilliant! We've been in the area several times but I hadn't realised there was a pub at Foxt. The Fox & Goose had mostly great reviews recently, so we found our way there down single track lanes from where we were staying locally. It is definitely worth the effort to find this pub!! Nice welcome, cracking food. It was steak night and that looked tempting but we went for pub standards, fish & chips & scampi & chips. Pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord and a coke. Really nice dining room with views far & wide. Good friendly service, nice beer and when the food arrived, big portions!!!! We had a lovely meal and steadily worked our way through the really great food, hot, tasty and plenty of it!! We were both Impressed and would definitely, definitely come here again when in the area. Worth a try and five stars for us!!! I'd be happy for this pub to be my local, to be honest!!!

What an absolutely beautiful country pub warm welcoming bar staff. We went for a meal with friends and will truly be visiting again. Food was cooked to perfection service was first class. Beverages purchased at the bar and bought to the table was better than expected. Following our meal we relocated and sat in the front of the pub near to an open fire recommended for these cold winter nights. We met with the publican Anthony again friendly and willilling to share information on the local area, tips on areas to visit for fun or nice local walks. This is a truly welcoming gem of a pub if you're visiting the surrounding areas it's a must. Ideal for family meals after visiting froghall steam railway or the local peak Wildlife Park and Alton towers or a walk in the. Peak District such as Dovedale or the Roaches. See you again soon.

After a trip to Alton towers we (a group of 6) decided last minute to find somewhere to eat on the way home. We found The fox and goose online and gave them a ring to make sure they had a table for us. We told them we might not get there until half 7 and they informed us the kitchen closed at 7, but did everything they could to get us in. We arrived around 10 to 7 and the staff were so lovely, attentive and helpful, despite us keeping the kitchen open. We ordered our food and it’s obviously all freshly cooked. There is a wide variety of pub staples on the menu and as it was Sunday, there was also a roast available. I ordered the bacon and Stilton burger. I don’t say this lightly, it was the best burger I’ve had in a long long time and I can’t remember enjoying a burger more. The ingredients were obviously quality and it really showed, it was delicious. Everyone Thoroughly enjoyed their food and the prices were really reasonable for the quality. It’s also worth noting that the location was really pretty, perched on top of a hill with excellent views from the dining room. Overall I couldn’t rate this place any higher, really friendly, great service and amazing food. I will definitely be making the hour and a half trip again to eat here.

Great food over the last few months we have eaten most things on the menu during the lockdown as they've been running a take away service and we have not had any meal which was less than spot on which says everything about the pub, the food has great portions and is really tasty. You won't regret coming here. The service is great, very friendly and felt very safe during these peculiar times. Great social distancing measures in place and it is managed quite well which is reassuring. Plenty of options for seating with great carpark and good views.

We were recommended to go here by friends, and what an amazing place! We were made welcome from the moment we stepped in lovely staff especially the owners, real home cooked food that's well presented good choice of menu and reasonably priced. Only thing I would advise anyone going here is make sure you arrive hungry because my eyes were certainly bigger than my belly! We will definitely be going again to try steak night :) anyone visiting won't be disappointed

My partner and I are in England for his job and decided to do Alton Towers before driving down to London for the week. We are staying at a nearby inn and they recommended the Fox & Goose Pub and we are so happy we did. From the moment we walked in til the moment we took the stroll down the dark quiet road back to our room we were treated as if we were a local. I had the black pudding starter and the local butcher sausage and mash. Two things I wanted to check off my must tries will in UK. Both dishes were amazing!! My better half had the chicken starter and the burger once again highly recommended. We will be back tomorrow night and each night until we leave. Thanks so much for the amazing food and equally the atmosphere. If you find yourself in the part of the world you must stop by and support this business!

A really fabulous local village pub with excellent food and super staff. We were made to feel so welcome and our evening meals were faultless. Highly recommend the homemade lasagne and curry night on a Friday is not to be missed. Really good value and large portions. Amazing friendly staff with a service next to none.. We were made to feel very welcome. This restaurant is situated within the picturesque countryside not too many miles from anywhere. The chef that we had the great fortune to have a conversation with is utterly proud of his menu as well he should be. The food served was a taste sensation perfect to say the least. I've eaten here a few times since it has reopened and I can say that the food is the nicest I have received eating out, it's not just standard "pub grub". It's reasonably priced with friendly staff who come around and check that everything is alright, nothing seems to be too much for them!
