Visited here for my mother in law's birthday as she is 84 and not very adventurous with food and likes pub classics. I on the other hand am adventurous and find pub classics a bit boring. I originally chose steak and ale pie but it's not a proper pie " with a bottom " so I opted for cheese and onion pie but the ratio of cheese to potato wasn't right and it was more of a mash pie with a little bit of cheese grated on top and no seasoning. My mother in law and husband enjoyed their meals though, hence the 4 stars.

Typical pub on the edge of Tunstall Park. It's is a community pub that serves a good range of veggie, vegan and other food, at quite a reasonable rate! Staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. Service was a little slow, hence the loss of a star, but worth a look

The food is absolutely beautiful the steak cooked to medium was done to perfection the home cooked chips are out of the world. The Chocolate fudge cake was really good and you got plenty of cream. Today the beer was really good. The staff all very welcoming. Next time I am going to have the Sizzlers and hope that it is as good as other customers had today as it smelt lovely so until next time. But if you have never had any food from the Furlong you are missing out!!.

I've known this place fir a very long time and you can be sure about getting a lovely meal especially Sunday Lunch. In particular, they recently catered fir my mother's Wake and dud an excellent job. We were given a secluded area where the family could talk and eat quietly. The service was excellent, the food delicious ( and ready and piping hot as soon as we arrived ) and the service polite but again, unobtrusive. I can thoroughly recommend.

Had a meal here and food was to a very good standard. I had the 2 meat sizzler and was more than happy with both the quality and portion size. Called in few days later for a drink in beer garden which to was very pleasant. Tables were clean and drinks reasonably priced. Will call in again.

Went to The Furlong today for the first time after a personal recommendation. Was very busy but we earlier booked a table by phone. The menu was basic but best was most of menu was homemade rather than processed so the quality was better. I had Steak and Ale pie and the wife had Meat and Potato I felt the quality was first class and tasted fresh, lots of chips, but if I could pick fault then portion size of the pie was so small. Luckily the quality of the food was that good I ignored that. Having spoken to other people the portion sizes recently have changed from what they used to be. But if that was only downfall I would definitely still recommend this place for a visit. Also I am disabled so lots of people were able to access building and definitely disabled friendly Staff were amazing and very polite

Went for a meal on the way out to help out scheme. Good safety measures in place regarding covid, plenty of hand sanitizer about, track and trace in place, one way system and plenty of social distancing. The food here is not bad, portion sizes are good and the "sizzler" meals are good value for money. My meal was a little overcooked and I think this could be because the kitchen are rushed due to the local popularity of the place. There seems to be some ongoing work to make the outside areas more attractive in preparation for summer evenings. The inside of the pub is clean and tidy but a little dated and dark. The addition of some nice fairy lights in the rafters helps to lift it a bit but it could do with a lighten up generally.

Love coming here as I have many times always good pub food piping hot and really big portions, serves wines beers soft drinks and also tea and coffee. Quite a big eating area and you don't feel cramped. Personally I've eaten at lunch times and in the evening normally book a table for the evening meal. Lovely welcoming staff made to feel really welcome.

Been for my birthday, 11 of us in total. The food was amazing but we had a bit of a problem with my 8 year olds icecream sundae. My lad didn't eat it and 2 of us tasted it and it tasted like onions. We asked for a refund but got told we couldn't have one as people in the kitchen had tasted it and said it was fine. I saw at least 3 people taste the dessert in there!! No offer to replace it for anything else either! Had one unhappy 8 year old when we left.

Overall, food was good and reasonably priced, although some veg on the carvery was watery and personally, I'd avoid the mash. Atmosphere is like typical pub, slightly cramped, but not too loud or full, just regular bar service. Excellent range of gluten free options. A recommend for coeliacs!!!!! Overall a good choice for a nice family meal or quick few drinks 👍

Great choice of ales and the carvery is wonderful, if not a bit haphazardly arranged. Once you've negotiated the queue (and it can get very busy) and the tiny carvery area, the food is great. It especially works for us, as we can take our dog inside (though we're restricted to sitting at the very front of the pub with the dog, which is fine) and eat a meal - not many places offer that, without sitting outside. Note: Worth double checking on the dogs-allowed issue, following June 2017's refurbishment.

First time if visiting the Furlong. We needed a last minute booking for 20 and they were so accommodating and managed to fit us in. All the staff were extremely nice and helpful (Tracy). Well, a very nice place. Lovely friendly staff. Alas all the chefs are named after the Microwaves they use which is probably why the food had a country mile to go to catch up with the setting and wonderfull staff. My Chicken was a close second to a Dunlop tyre. My rice tasted of chewy nothingness, that was just me, there were 6 of us all with a hangover left in our mouths. Next time I'll drive a few Furlongs more and get something that resembles good food and not offerings from the knackeres yard.

Went to the furlong today with my family who had travelled from Nottingham. It was 2.30pm and we were told by a loud mouthed girl polishing cutlery "no food until 4.oopm". There was another family wanting to order but were told the same, they left and so did we. Apparently the chef/cook had no prepped food and couldn't accommodate us, what! Having worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years this is a new one on me and my daughter is General manager of a pub/restaurant and hotel.we were very disappointed by this and running out of prep is not acceptable, they lost at least £100 in revenue by turning away trade, this place has obviously been taken over must be great when you can afford to turn away custom.

Yet another great night at The Furlong!! I was in the pub game for nigh on 17years, where I had three pubs all of different identities. All were successful in there own right and I was always of the opinion that "no pub could be all things to all men" Well I was wrong because The Furlong is exactly that.. The energy and enthusiasm topped up with quality and product range is to be applauded. Well done to all who are involved with the success of this great English Tavern. Long may you stay ahead of your rivals..As any follower of the Gee gees knows, Eight furlongs makes a mile - but only one furlong makes you smile....

I think the food is great, great atmosphere, no trouble, ( none while I have been there any how ) lovely bar staff, great people that get in there, friendly,the beer garden is extremely lovely, clean in and outside, the wifi is not so good, but do think that, that could be, as the place is in a dip, when they have event and it is tickets only, that is just what it is , no gate crashes, I feel save do recommend going, dog friendly in part of the pub....
