G. H.I've had both good and bad experiences at The Master Potter when it comes to food and service. It's generally pretty good on the food front.. it tastes nice and it's good value for money, HOWEVER....
There is black mould in the men's toilet cubicle. It has been there for at least 1 year now, and it still hasn't been addressed. My most recent visit was on December 29th and I thought it had been addressed by now. I have contacted the company (Hungry Horse) to inform them - I just hope it gets sorted. It's actually put me off returning. The pub itself seems clean enough, but the mould definitely needs to be addressed to protect customers' health.
S. R.Popped over for a bite to eat, I could have easily just had the chips, they are amazing chips 🤣 the crown of burgers was also nice, I'd have that again, it is quite a lot of food so have it if your very hungry 🤣 I ate the lot obvs.
E. G.Brilliant evening in the pub. Attending the epic bingo night, had a fun time. Didn’t have any food but other peoples plates looked good. Harrison, Heather and Ellie behind the bar served us really quickly all night. We come to a lot of events in the Potter and always have a good time!
M. P.Popped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Lovely atmosphere, clean and presentable. Food was excellent, hot, tasty and well presented. Staff were friendly and welcoming too. Noticed some new menu additions, so I think a return trip is in order in the near future!
W. S. S.Enjoyed a meal in the master potter last night. The young lady at the bar (Ellie I think her name was) served us with a smile and was very helpful in recommending drinks for our group. The food came relatively quick and was very tasty. Will definitely be returning.
a. s.me and my friends visited master potter on Tuesday around lunch time and even though is was relatively busy the woman behind the bar called Ellie was extremely helpful, I can be so indecisive when choosing new drinks to try and she offered me some great recommendations. Daisy brought our food out to us they both made us feel comfortable and welcome, we will definitely be returning.
T. J.Had a wonderful meal at the Master Potter this afternoon. The festive feast menu has loads to choose from and the turkey was lovely ‘melted in your mouth’ Mum says! Kim and her team were so welcoming as usual.
K.We come for the pub quiz every week and it’s always such a lovely experience! Service is great, staff are always welcoming and friendly, and the food is amazing.
Would definitely recommend to anyone.

C. G.Member of staff over heard the interest of my son age 14 about a pool team. She came over took time out to promote not just youngsters but people coming to the premises using the facility’s but not just having a team. Ellie of cheadle master potter did her up most to accommodate our son and promote a pool team goin above and beyond a barmaid and appreciated for her hard work and her skill and time with costumes. Ellie you have a brilliant future and wish you all the luck
j. h.Wasn't the best of experiences I've ever had with here, I've been a few times now and this was the worst time for us.
The little amount of staff on front of house was lovely and friendly for a semi busy night.
Food has really gone down hill, 3 of us had hunters chicken, bacon was very over cooked chicken was a little rubbery and there was all of a tbsp of BBQ sauce on each dish. Tikka masala with 4-5 bits of small chicken; they had ran out of rice, so offed the choice of chips.
All day breakfast ordered was hardly touched eggs and bacon very over cooked, toast had a musty taste.
1 meal out of 6 of us was ok which was a salad.
2 of our guests left early as they wasn't happy. We decided to stay and have dessert as we was still hungry and with the thought 'not much can go wrong with a dessert'.
sticky toffee & chocolate fudge cake was really good!
But green king who's fantastic idea was it to send out a tub of ice-cream with 2 twix bars and a bit of squirty cream for the candy mania, how tacky, not only that after digging through this tub of ice-cream none of the other ingredients was even in it no cookie dough ect, it literally was half and half ice cream😂, your poor staff that are made to serve these to your paying customers ; I feel so sorry if this is what is happening all across your other sites!
As I had said your staff was amazing and they handled everything with a smile. But with the side of food taste and presentation this really needs looking into.
My only other bit of criticism is the door leading from bar to back of house on the right side, keep the corridor clean and tidy not all way a great view or impression for customers when opened.
M. S.The brews are hot, the beer is cold. Food is well portioned, staff friendly, the atmosphere is cosy and it's all affordable.
What more could you want from a pub.

A. P.We visited here when we where on a trip to Alton Towers and had the most wonderful meal. The service was 5 star, food excellent and the prices where spot on. Would definitely visit again next time we go to Alton Towers!

A. S.A 'cheap and cheerful' pub, with simple but tasty food. They prepared our order extremely quickly, although the burger was a little overcooked for my liking. Food and drink is cheap but decent enough quality, and there's plenty of parking outside.

The staff are wonderful and were very efficient and friendly! Had a table of 17 people for a 19th birthday party, and we had no problems at all! All the food was warm, delicious and came out at the same time and drinks were also great! We also made use of the pool table which was surprisingly cheap at £2 for 3 games. Overall, a great night!

On the night of our visit there was quiet large screens in all rooms for sports being shown.
Food available in the lounge area which on in need of some TLC.
Outdoor sitting area which now has a screen to watch sports attached to the wall and string lighting much improved along with a small play area for young children.
C. C.Had a lovely lunch down there today A bit slow serving my husband with our drinks ( no one behind the bar) until I went to find someone, but the food was good.
G. T.Really quick service and friendly staff. The separation between the bar area and restaurant area is really nice to allow for a quiet family meal, though I imagine it may be much louder when a sporting match is on.
All in all, a very nice meal and experience, and all for a decent price too.
I. P.We visited twice in two days whilst holidaying locally. This is a large venue with plenty of space for family dining as well as a separate area for over 18s only.
Screens show sports etc. Large bar area, booths with TVs as other Hungry Horse sites but lots of different types of seating, free standing or part of banks of seating.
Outside seating in in the open air and undercover too, all fenced off to keep children safe from the main road and car park. I think I saw a play area but can't be sure. Blue badge spaces close to the building at the side of the main road.
Good clean toilet facilities and a separate disabled and baby changing areas.
A good range of ales on offer and the familiar Hungry Horse menu.
Food was quickly delivered and nice and hot. Staff attentive, asking if all was OK, whether we wanted any other drinks or desserts and we were thanked and wished a good day on the way out.

J. P.Fair enough for fast meals. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Maybe it's time to change the Menu too though. I also notice the tables are sticky to touch. I would advise they cleaned with a good detergent.

K. L.Normally give a Hungry horse a wide birth back home, but right from the very start they were extremely accomodating. The service was quick and the staff very polite and attentative. The chicken was moist, the chips were crispy yet fluffy and hot! Onion rings filled with actual onion and not swimming in grease. Everyone else thought the same. J. P.The food, place were lovely. The staff were pleasant too. KThe app is pants, didn't work when I wanted to expand booking, link not replied too, not enough staff to answer the phone either. All accommodated after I went down. App in pub also pretty lousy. Took the money and then we had to pay again and wait for app refund. No one came to clear the table. Drink orders through the app didn't always work.
The experience doesn't match the quality of the food, which is a shame. Please it sort out :)

T. S.Called in for dinner tonight after a day at Alton Towers really nice place is the Master Potter food good and came quickly. But the best assets are the front of house staff especially Sophie who took time to speak to my brother in law who has autism and likes to chat and is very sociable Sophie took time and listened and chatted to him. Also thanks to Lucy Daisy keep up the good work.

Y.Right, so we come Master Potter on Sunday without much expectations as we never really enjoy it there anyway (they forever have no this or that from their menu) but ok, after a many months gap we still went. Master Potter is empty. 3-5 tables are being served but the waitresses act as if they are extremely busy (yet, they were nice and tried their best to be helpful). First they bring wrong sausages: vegetarian instead of pork. They also bring 3 instead of 2. They also bring NO gravy. Then they bring 2 sachets of salt for the table (for 4 people), they never suggest sauces. So my kid is eating dry food with no gravy, no ketchup. They switch off the music and turn football on full blast! Then they don't come up to take the dishes away so we sit at the table with a mountain of dirty plates. Do u think we could enjoy our meal? And of course – no surprise – it turns to be they've run out of some deserts... okay... l think it'll take me another year to risk to visit this place but most likely nothing will ever change!

Only thing I wish (and this isn't the pubs fault) is that Smokers used the designated waterproof outside smoking area rather than standing in the doorway. Horrible having to walk through their smoke and also it seeps indoors sometimes and also through the windows if you are seated there.

Then couldn't find a drinks option we wanted (but should be available-a half pint of Abbot ale shandy) asked a member of staff who went to ask and never returned ( we saw her ask but never got an answer) we then had to go and ask as mo other staff passed near, defeats the object of having an app.
Food was ordered ok, and with drinks arrived promptly.
The 'dressed salad' with scampi turned out to be lettuce with salad dressing.
Overall ok. Food was ok. Nothing special.

No Mark which was disappointing he always great. ordered all family's meal on the app have to say very easy to use. 1 of the meals came wrong when they served chicken to a vegetarian, even checked the order on the app and i definitely ordered the vegi option. told the server after main course i would be ordering our desserts on the app and to bring out the free dessert at the same time, but 2 minutes later they bought out the free dessert before id even ordered the rest. nice food , fair prices, surprisingly quiet.

D. W.Not the greatest of Hungry Horses I've been to, but not the worst. My daughter made a booking for her and her dad's birthday but the restaurant didn't have a note of it, which was a bit disappointing. The staff were friendly when spoken to, but aren't proactive in talking to customers not at the bar.
Had enough to eat though and the special offer deals are quite good.

C. T.Very short wait for our order, although this may depend on time of day. Facilities are always clean, and hygienic. I was pleased that despite a lot of plastic and cardboard used in their packaging, they are aiming to send as nothing to landfill. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a parking space and/or a place to sit. I suggest if going with others, get one to order and others find a table.
R. J.Not only some of the more polite staff I have ever been served by but the best hungry horse I have been to,ever. For a hungry horse food was of brilliant quality and cooked to perfection and for an absolute bargain. Wonderful end to a wonderful day in Alton towers. Highly recommend.
P. M.First time visit. Hungry Horse Food Pub Chain. We went at 3pm on a Saturday. Helpful Bar Staff. Lots of variety on the Menu. Mini Mixed Grill well worth every penny, moist and tasty meats, Gammon, Chicken Fillets and Sausage. Very enjoyable meal. Highly Recommended.

L. J.Friendly staff but the food needs work ordered chicken kebab the chicken which was very plain was stone cold , the chips had no cajunxspice on them they replaced my meal it still wasn't overly warm and had tipped cajun spice all over the chips which made them almost inedible

A. W.Very helpful staff. We arrived with a party of 12. Some of which were vegetarian and some vegan so some difficult orders in there. Very accommodating and friendly and very reasonably priced. £95 something for 12 people, most of which had an alcoholic drink!
K. T.Extremely busy! Not enough staff on. It was a Wednesday we booked at 6.30pm for 12 people for my daughter's & friend birthday. It took 30mins just to get a drink! It then took a further 30mins wait to order food! The food was nice but didn't come out all together. The sad part was the girls who's birthday it was were left until last to get their meal by that point everyone else had eaten at 13 & 12 years old they were not very happy. Whilst I'd definitely go again I wouldn't choose it for a birthday or other celebration. No effort was made for the girls they left miserable, with no desert as the wait was to long. Not exactly how you want to feel on your birthday 😔
L. S.Friendly and helpful staff. Sometimes the food is brilliant, and other times it misses the mark. You will feel full with the generous and fair priced meals.
Standard selection of drinks, with about 2 or 3 versions of each type of standard spirits and drinks on draft. They have now included from the soft draft drink dispenser additional flavours to add to your lemonade or cola. Chery, Lime and Raspberry are amongst those flavours
They also have live entertainment from time to time

C. P.Great find when in the area. Nice, clean modern pub with very friendly young team of staff. Yes it is a local pub so the football was on and a group of lads in. But the family friendly menu and price were spot on and exactly what we went for. Great example of a chain pub.
t. f.Well i used to love eating here but we went a couple of days ago and my granddaughters children's meal of chicken nuggets came out hot on outside with lumps of ice inside. This really isnt good.
My chicken sizzler meal came out not sizzling and sent it back. Second one just wasnt any better really
So my daughter and i have decided that we wont go there again.
It was more of an insult when we paid 25 quid and they did not offer to reimburse but said we could have free puddings. Puddings are so much cheaper so im afraid i didnt feel that they really cared.
The staff were apologetic and nice but i dont think I'll be going there for a while now!!

s. l.we went here on the way to alton towers. it was really nice sunday lunch and staff were very friendly. the pub was really well kept nice and clean. we will definitely be using it again next time we are at alton towers as its only about 10-15 mins away

On arrival we were accosted by Gypsies begging for money (inside the pub) and telling us it was for a well known mental health charity, that they couldn't name, really inside the pub- management??
The toilets, whilst displaying a sign proudly telling you they are kept immaculate, were swimming in water there was no soap and one inadequate hand dryer.
The beer was slopped all over the glass, when I asked for a cloth the barman kindly offered to sort it out and top it up and handed me back an equally slopped over pint after hunting for a bar towel, failing and using tissue
The starters were okay but four soups all had differing amounts of soup in them and the bowls were slopped over with spilt soup. The Turkey dinner main course was of good size, some veg was overcooked, others were nearly raw, the roast potatoes were sort of cooked...
The puddings were disappointing.
This pub could be a goldmine if only a little more heart and soul was put into it..
Also football at full volume on boxing Day really!

D. R.We have a meal and drinks at the Master Potter on a regular basis, always eat there after shopping in Leek, Ashbourne or Uttoxeter, as we think it is the best of its kind in the area.
The food is always varied and to our satisfaction, the plates hot, the staff friendly,efficient and attentive.Would recommend it to anyone.
