We used the function room today, following a funeral, which was perfect as it gave us our own private space. Mark and Sam couldn't have been more helpful. The food was clearly freshly prepared and was just what we were expecting for a finger buffet.

I've been to the Rat Trap more than once. Love it. Great pub under the Arkells brewery banner. Passes the fish and chips test with flying colours!! Staff are friendly and welcoming. They accept chip and pin and contactless/Apple Pay too. On this visit, I returned to my favourite dish. The fish and chips is served with a hearty salad, a massive wedge of lemon and really really good chunky chips. None of your skinny chips here. They're not home made but sure are a good compromise. The beer batter is light and crispy and apparently made on site. Bread and butter is real. Large doorsteps of fresh crusty batch bread. I needed more butter to get through mine. My trusty food mate Bob visited with me this time and he had Lasagne which if you check the photos you can see the quality. Large garlic breads kept him filled up for hours! I'd be wary of the bad reviews on here. The food is great. Pub food but leagues above average fare like Beefeater or Harvester. I'd even go on a road trip just to pop in for food. So five stars all the way.

A fairly nice run-of-the-mill Pub, just off the A419 in Swindon. The cliental during our visit was more elderly than our group, but we were made to feel very welcome nonetheless. The food was pretty decent & the service wasn't lacking either. Portion sizes were so large that we struggled to finish our plates. Definitely recommended for a pitstop on a journey & certainly a step up from the motorway services.

Pleasant visit every time. This pub is very covid-conscious, yet still being able to provide a high level of service. Nice place to visit for a quick pint or for a full blown roast dinner with you family. Staff are friendly, polite and always having a positive, quirky attitude. From outside the place might not seem like that much but as you step inside you'll notice how the atmosphere is indeed really welcoming. Also, worth mentioning that there are plenty of parking spaces available, so it is a good venue to visit overall 👍

Visited the Rat Trap today for the first time in years, we called last minute to try and get a table outside after first of the restrictions lifted and the guy on the phone was very helpful and although fully booked penciled us in and explained if there was a booking that didn't show they'd let us have the seat. We arrived and the waitress was so kind and friendly and let us have a good table that had not been occupied. Everything was clean and all staff friendly. We both had the bacon cheese burger, and although the burger it's self wasn't the best (had almost a fenugreek taste) the portion size was excellent and the chips and especially the bean salad was excellent. Will definitely return.

The rat trap has nice food it's a good place however the food is a bit pricey so it's not really the ideal stop have a drink and snack sort of place it's more like a dine out. For instance a burger costs 11 pound.

Father's Wake We hired the function room for the wake, it was an ideal size, with plenty of comfortable seating and a relaxed homely atmosphere. The buffet was plentiful with a good variety of choices, not the usual bland buffet Staff were courteous, quick to replenish plates of food and remove used glasses etc They couldn't do enough to ensure it went smoothly Thoroughly recommend

Polite and friendly staff, the giant Yorkshire pudding was great and the veg dish was as fine. However, I did not enjoy the roast beef - it was overcooked and served as very large chunks rather than sliced, because it was big chunks there were also a lot of tubes and grisly bits. Saw plenty of good reviews for their normal meals so it may just be the Sunday dinner that was 3*.

My partner and I both had amazing food. I had the scampi , there was plenty of it and cooked beautifully, the chips and salad were lovely accompaniments. My partner had the 10oz steak and there was not a scrap of fat on it, and again cooked to perfection. There was so much to choose from , we were spoilt for choice. We will definitely be coming back again, and again.

Came here with my grampy. I am gluten free and was happy to see a gluten free menu. I use to come here 3 years ago for the lasagna before I was gluten free and it was amazing. I was excited to see that they had a gluten free lasagna. Which was JUST AS AMAZING as the non gluten. Honestly you couldnt tell the difference. Garlic bread was amazing and defo recommend. 9 ex work colleagues(affectionately known as the old duffers) booked into the Rat trap early December 2017 for their Christmas menu 6 chose turkey with starters and pud 3 chose steak with starters and pud, the portions were very plentiful and delicious, the service was excellent and the staff more than abliging all in all a very enjoyable experience for all and can thoroughly recommend it especially at the more than reasonable cost
