Reviews of The Three Tuns Inn
S. B.
This was are favourite pub/restaurant during our stay in Bishops Castle. We ate here twice.
Both times the food was delicious and the service excellent. The staff are very friendly and welcoming - the best we experienced during our stay. You feel well looked after.
Even when busy the service is efficient.
The beers are very good and incredible value - probably helps that they are brewed on site. £3.35 for a pint.

This is the 2nd time we have been here while visiting the lovely Shropshire border between England and Wales.
It is a nice place to sit in and does have a comfy feel. The bar staff have strange vibes but the young girls are nice enough, maybe a bit awkward.
The menu is okay but not an amazing choice but the food portions are big (maybe a bit too big ) and the food is tastey enough. My starter of the fish Goujans was really nice. I enjoyed them the most.
I had the Pork Belly which was tasty enough , fresh veg, bit crunchy which I personally quite like but some might not. The mash was very nice and the pork belly was decent apart from the crackling was so tough and you couldn't eat it at all . Literally so chewy it would break your teeth. I like the crackling but had to leave it.
We was stuffed so it wasn't a bad meal..we enjoyed it. It was a nice pub meal. On the pricey side which you would expect.
When we paid the maybe owner come over and took our payment , he had a really off vibe. He didn't really speak to us , he just walked up gave us the card machine and didn't say thanks or anything. He just walked away and didn't give us the receipt or even ask if we wanted it. He seemed off with us and not friendly at all.
An okay place to eat but left with a weird feeling from the staff. Not sure if we will be back
Heres a photo of my starter which was great

I believe this to be the brewery tap for Three Tuns brewery. You can have a beer watching the comings and goings in the old brewery building.
The excellent real ale was my main attraction as they serve Clerics Cure ,XXX and their other brews.
Still applying strict covid precautions so it was table service. Staff were friendly helpful and attentive. A real character of a pub in a village that also has charm and character.
The menu offered a good range of choices you can check this online
Fantastic quality and value.
It's the sort of pub where you can enjoy great beer knowing the missus is also happy.
A.
Beautiful old building, friendly staff,
and excellent real ale. Parking is not the most convenient.
T. H.
Love the Three Tuns, great pub. The Solstice is one of my all time favourite beers. Friendly service, always feel welcome. Don't miss it if you're passing Bishop's Castle
k. F.
Overall lovely place to eat, close to campsite and lovely friendly staff! Only downfall is the kids dinner! £6.95 for 3 small pieces of grilled chicken and 6 chips! And the beans tasted like they had vinegar on them. Adults meals no complaints at all they were very tasty!!
J. H.
Beautiful old building, friendly staff, tasty well kept beer and the food is always top quality.
D. R. S.
Great staff food and beer. A brilliant pub.
N. M.
Nice pub. Lovely town. Will go there for a meal hopefully soon... I had a thimblefull of their Three Tuns Brewery Ginger IPA... just out of curiosity. Going to go back there to have a roast with a couple of pints of that.
m. s.
Nice old town pub & brewery, excellent range of beers, the three tuns XXX I'd highly recommend & a varied menu to suit most tastes. We had the pork belly & veg which was cooked to perfection, friendly & helpful staff, will definitely visit again.
P. P.
Nice old place, staff were friendly and helpful. Beer was good.
R. W.
Lovely pub, lovely brewery, lovely beer!
M. F.
Really really good food!!!!!! I recommend absolutely everything that we had - hummus, aubergine, whitebait, mushroom soup and the risotto. Tap beer is lovely as well (try the IPA). Staff is very friend but service is kinda slow.
S. L.
Lovely place, good beer and nice seating. When we went it was quite peaceful and can take the beer that is brewed there away in bottles.
M. H.
Great place to grab a drink and to have a lovely meal, friendly helpful staff and lovely locals, enjoyed a nice drink with friends here. Worth stopping off to have a nice cold or hot beverage and a chat I'm a lovely area.
P. A.
Interesting building and decent beer from the adjacent brewery but the food was more school dinners than dining pub. Sorry, that’s how it was. Eat elsewhere.
w. r.
Oldest licensed brewery with a pub of the same name. Excellent beer and food. Staff were happy to be there. Beautiful function room and stage. Nice walk around town.
H. M.
Had an absolutely fantastic meal, highly recommend the lamb, and my boys loved these puudings. Best place in Bishops Castle for a Tiger Cocktail ;)
S. P.
Popped in here for some lunch and it lived up to expectations. Great real Ale, not tried them before but impressed. Food was excellent. Extremely flavoursome, served promptly and more surprisingly, great value. Not often you get food of this quality at this price!
The service was also great, the staff were very friendly and attentive. The venue itself is full of charm and traditional character. Would definitely go back, just wish it was closer to home!
A. R.
Good place to dine with friends and family. Food was extremely fresh and service was good. Prices were slightly on the higher side. Good selection of beers. Parking is not the most convenient.
M. P.
Holiday visit for evening meal. Good ale from the in house brewery. Food also very good and reasonably priced. Proper pies too, none of that chuck a pastry top on a dish and call it a pie rubbish. Unlikely to go again as probably won't be back to this area but if I was, I'd definitely pay it another visit. Recommended.
T. M.
Lovely bar with some nice outdoor space and loads of seating inside. Big fan of Three Tuns beer and I was disappointed Clerics Cure wasn't ready on this visit. The Solstice was a nice pint tho
T. P.
Lovely pub, great beers and really friendly staff. Even put up with me in saturday night mode so well worth their 5 stars!
M. W.
Excellent beers, brewed on site, excellent food, great historic venue in the lovely rural town of Bishops Castle (it's fun finding the castle itself, don't let on for those that are not in the know)
S. J.
Will worth a visit for the quality of the beer. Nice staff but they need a light lunch menu as well as full meals.
J. L.
Lovely pub. Great atmosphere, especially liked the snug behind the bar.
Great beers also
N. C.
Love this place. Great selection of real, local ales, great food and brilliant staff. Sit in the sofa next the fire. Perfection.....
S. C.
Excellent range of drinks. Very clean and tidy and staff very pleasant. Well worth a visit.
K. C.
Food excellent but I thought the beers were very poor - tried several cask beers but they tasted bland with that slightly unpleasant yeasty homebrew aftertaste.
K. Y.
The food was absolutely delicious!
M. H.
Beautiful food, staff friendly and lovely atmosphere
M. S.
Very enjoyable evening. Gorgeous meal, great service.
D. H.
A great pub lovely inside fantastic beer brewed next door if your into real ale as I am this is the place a must visit..can't comment on the food but told its good staff were lovely facilities great .. support places like these they deserve it
h.
A small brewery with a long history. A place to enjoy good beer.
D. S.
Thanks for everything - really enjoyed our time at the Three Tuns on Sunday - staff were awesome, the food was fantastic and the beer was pretty good too
A. P.
Such a lovely place to visit ...very cosy and relaxed and the food it's so good😊
g. q.
Great Atmosphere Amazing Ales and friendly bar staff
Combined with lovely food it's a must if your in the area
J. N.
We visited at lunchtime during half term whilst on holiday in the nearby village of Clun. Having read great reviews online we were keen to visit The Three Tuns as we love our beer and it didn't disappoint!
Fabulous beer choice and food was delicious. We hadn't booked but the friendly girl took us to a lovely quiet table which was ideal with small children. Fab choice for veggies and vegans on the the specials board and normal menu and great choice of beer - their own brew IPA was excellent. Would recommend this pub to anyone who enjoys a pint and proper pub food! Dog friendly too!
K. L.
We were visiting the area in the summer in August. Lovely beer and the staff were so nice in there. We popped in so the husband could try the local beer unsure if it was okay with a baby as some pubs are not too keen. Baby was good and quiet and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Really enjoyed our visit and husband gave the beer 10/10 fantastic.
A. J.
Marvellous beer and exceptional food, do book to avoid disappointment. All the staff are beautiful and incredibly helpful. Set in the pictures town of bishops castle, with wonderful views of the longmind from the lounge bar, and conservatory.
N. S.
Lovely food and great beer.
M. A.
Lovely meal & very friendly staff.
Can highly recommend the kitcat Sunday.
N. F. (.
Excellent service, food is outstanding, and the perfect real ale travels about 50ft from the attached brewery. Cannot wish for a better place to drink and dine in the area.
C. M.
Love it in there great beer friendly people I will be coming back
M. S.
It's a while since we've been to this wonderful old pub/brewery (pre-covid), and I have to say it was worryingly quiet for a Sunday afternoon (3pm). Not sure if table service is required now all restrictions have been lifted, and at times it seemed like there were more staff than customers. Hopefully when all the covid stuff has disappeared it will revert to being a great pub, with great beer, that also does good food. It's lacking a little atmosphere just now.
P. P.
A real old pub and brewery on site a must if you like real ale.
s. h.
Very enjoyable food. We had curried parsnip soup, duck terrene. Mains beef lasagna and the lamb steak. All very well cooked and presented. Pale ale was great and coffee value and enjoyable to drink. Environment and staff were on point. Would go again
D. M.
This really is just what you want a pub to be. The beer is great - Three Tuns beer. The atmosphere was laid back and cosy, with a fire and dogs under tables. The food was excellent for a pub.
D. T.
Three of us. Beers great, esp the XXX and Solstice. Foodwise, the steak was great, vege lasagne good too, but the vegan chickpea and squash curry was disappointing as I didn't have any flavour. If you're going to call it curry please make it taste like curry.
E. G.
I had the fish in beer batter and chips.
Sadly the batter was inedible. It was really greasy and under cooked. The actual fish was nice.
Staff were friendly and helpful. The beer is good.
Sadly let down by the food. Disappointing.
g. w.
What a pub located in the heart of bishops Castle
Parking is a bit tricky but we found a spot just around the corner with a 5 minute walk.
Cosy atmosphere and very clean toilets
The food was perfect with not a very massive waiting time.
Amazing choice of ales as it's a brewery also.
Friendly staff and a great friendly waitress.
100% recommended if your passing by or live locally.
Many thanks
Greg weale - Knighton powys
L. E.
Great beer, great food and top staff
M. D.
Great food and reasonably priced. Lovely staff.
W. K.
Great food, service and awsome beer!
g. t.
If you like three tuns ale then this place has got the lot. At the back is one of Britain's oldest breweries.. If not the oldest? 🍻
D. J.
Visited the pub to try the selection of ales and came away with few bottles to take home. Lovely place clean and presentable
G. H.
Great food, good service, friendly staff
R. W.
Really nice bar in a fantastic town.
A. B.
A lovely place good staff and good food. We had some problems when we were here as we had ordered ahead but they had lost the order. They handled the problems well even though they seemed short staffed.
C.
Great pub-brewery in Bishops Castle. Lovely Sunday roast too! Shame we no longer visit as put off by a couple of unpleasant experiences with bar staff.
S. F.
Bit of a mixed experience. An initial confusion from a junior member of the team about us booking in for just a drink though we'd asked for a meal was then rescued by another team member who was able to get us a table. Enjoyed my pint of Solstice very much. I had the salmon which was 'OK' though the potatoes were definitely underdone (hard). We were asked about how things were twice (which was good) and had it not been for the fact I was tired as I'd just finished a drive from North Scotland, I'd have raised it then. Would I come again? Beer and pub yes. Food? probably not.
J. W.
Friendly staff, great food and even better beer! Not much more you can ask for from a pub.
Always a favourite
S. W.
Been to this pub 4 times in the last few weeks and service is always spot on. We have eaten here twice and again the food is piping hot and really nice. Highly recommend if you fancy a quick pint or something nice to eat. The only down side was no allergy folder for us to view.
R. W.
Epic. All Three Tuns Beer on cask. What's not to love. Happy friendly environment, and great beer. I wish I lived nearer.
R. I.
Great beer (brewed on site) and fantastic food. We found the portions very big so bring your appetite! Good social distancing measures in place and friendly staff. We couldn't fault the three tuns.
W. A.
The Three Tuns is a traditional pub that is next door to the Three Tuns brewery. The real ales are excellent. The pub has a great atmosphere with an open fire and traditional fixtures and fittings. There is a large dining area and the food looks good - although I have not eaten here. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Arrive early as it does get busy.
A. T.
The XXX is a fantastic pint and the atmosphere of the place perfectly matches it's antiquated style. There was a bit of a wait for food, although not too bad considering it was a busy evening and we had not booked in advance. Great food when it did arrive, would definitely recommend the burgers. Not the best/friendliest service but the quality of the product definitely made up for it
N. J.
Had a great evening here watching 3 local musical acts in their function room. Great atmosphere in a lovely setting.
S. B.
Food delicious, ambience lovely, staff very attentive.
D. H.
Big old pub with smart modern extension. Friendly staff and dog friendly too. We just had sandwiches and the rest of my family enjoyed there's, I'm a vegetarian and chose the Mediterranean veg sandwich which I didn't enjoy, it was overpowered by the pesto, but apart from that I would return but choose something different
B. D.
Brew their own beer. Lovely stuff
C. W.
We visited The Three Tuns Inn on Sunday 23 February 2020 decades after our previous visits. It was the day of Bishops Castle Arts and Craft festival and it was lovely to find out that an upper hall area had a lovely musical festival in full swing.
The Three Tuns has vastly expanded since our previous visit and pub area has had a glass fronted 'bridging' lounge /TV watching area ( the England v Ireland rugby match was on but without the sound on ) built on the rear connecting it to the old brewery buildings taking up a chunk of the already small car park. There is only about space for about 5 cars in the car park but parking is available in the nearby streets.
The main entrance is at the rear with a flight of wooden steps up to the main floor. A further shorter flight of steps takes you up to the upper performance hall. Another door leads into the front of the older main building from the street.
We sat in the 'quiet' lounge bar in a lovely bay window overlooking the Three Tuns brewery. The bar in this area had six handpulled real ales on offer from the brewery , all reasonably priced. We had half of the Three Tuns Stout which we found delicious and only £3.40 a pint. My wife found it so nice that she had to have a second sample !
J. P.
Good food and real ale 🍺 and very friendly staff.
M. H.
Lovely pub with wooden beams next to the Three Tuns Brewery. The beer also comes from the Brewery.
A. T.
Really good beer, was glad we were staying locally and I could enjoy it. We ate a meal. Bit of a wait but we hadn't prebooked and they were very busy. The burger was lovely. Reasonably priced. I just wish we lived closer!
S. T.
Great cosy pub with fantastic beer, friendly staff and serving great food. There are many pubs in Bishop's Castle and a visit to this one is a must. The back room has a supply of board games that were perfect to keep us entertained on a chilly evening. Will be returning to the area in few weeks and am already booked in for what I'm sure will be a delicious meal.
C. J.
A great pub with their own beer brewed on site. Good atmosphere and food. One downside is that the main entrance from the carpark is past the toilets that absolutely stink! They really need to get the ventilation sorted, the smell of piss is not very welcoming!
H. P.
Great old pub with its own brewery. Looks quite small from the front but it has a large extension on the back which houses the dining area. We loved the XXX pale ale and Cleric's Cure IPA. Good stuff
S. E.
What can I say about the Three Tuns. Sometimes words aren't enough. But I will try.
It's very friendly, cosy in the Winter and always welcoming.
Good choice of ales that are brewed next door.
The Three Tuns cooks good food served by helpful and friendly waitresses.
Great place for families, couples on a dinner date or if your single the bar staff always have a moment to spare to chat.
Helpful, happy and friendly bar staff all held together by an extremely cheerful manager.
J. M.
Met with friends for a lovely lunch
and lots of chat perfect.
T. W.
We often stop here for a drink/lunch when visiting Bishops Castle. Friendly welcoming staff and a good selection of Gins.
r.
Beautiful place! Today is live music a cider festival and sunshine, and my dog was welcome. Very happy.
Lovely beer good barbecue food and pub food inside - not sure what they could do that could make this better
P. E.
It's been about 12 months since I was here last and it appears little has changed. This is the original home brewing pub of Bishops Castle and seems to be at the top of its game at the moment. It was nice to see a homebrewed Stout on the pumps, and was a good dark and sweet pint. My friends pint of ale was not to his taste, but the thing with real ale, you either love it or hate it. We did not eat there as it was fully booked, so by default would assume its good. Don't panic if real ale is not your thing, they do also serve the commercial stuff.
M. R.
Stunning pub and brewery. Oldest in England.
D. S.
Great food.... great staff and our boy Oska was well pampered
D. M. 1.
Great little brewery. Had a tour for our son's 18th birthday which he loved. The guy showing us around was very knowledgeable and interesting, needless to say the beer tasting at the end was good too! Well worth the trip.
H. H.
I have kept, served and drank almost every beer 3 tuns make. They are exceptionally good and make for fantastic drinking. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable an absolute asset to our county.
R. H.
A good, old-fashioned British pub menu. Something for everyone. There's plenty.of room and they're well equipped to deal with life in a Covid-19 world. Good range of local beers as well.
B. J. G.
Some great ales on offer and solid lunch options.
C. d. H.
Nice beers, good atmosphere! Worth a visit. If you a chance to get a tour of the brewery Nextdoor, that's worth doing too.
The menu had reasonable vegetarian and vegan options on the menu if that's important for you.
Worth a visit, good luck and enjoy, Christiaan 🙂👌👋🌞👍
J. L.
Great beer brewed on the premises. Well worth a visit for any beer lovers.
j. b.
Went walking round the area, then called in for a drop of stout, which has been excellent , but was a little off. Could have been because it was in the week? Had a beef sandwich, the wife had cheese, which was exceptional .
Will continue to go in there in the future , because it's a beautiful part of the country , and a cracking pub.
I.
It's been a while since my last visit. Good to see the food is still very good and the local Three Tuns ales are still the best
S. S. (.
Great pub and brewery but book if your going to eat, food looked amazing but sadly we hadn't booked
L. J.
Love this pub, great food not to mention the beer and very atmospheric. Lots of little nooks to sit in and games to play if you are inclined. Unfortunately weren't serving food on our last visit but we found a fantastic chai shop up the road that is also more than worth a visit.
A. W.
Probably one of the finest pubs in the world! Excellent beer brewed next door and a lovely menu. The staff are wonderful too. I can't wait for my next visit.
A. K.
Had a fabulous meal here. Nice location. Clean. Friendly staff. Great menu selection.
P. R.
Food really nice. Staff are great, especially if you're lucky enough to be looked after by Sherrie, who looks after your children as if they are her own!!
P. T.
A favourite over decades and does not disappoint. Lovely inside and the beer was sparkling. Great place
C. L.
I love this pub. Great, good value food. Very friendly atmosphere. Best beer from 3 tuns brewery, the oldest in the UK.
K. R.
My sons food and my food was lovely, but my wifes chicken Caesar salad had no cheese and not the classic sauce there was also a vein or something in the chicken that caused a redness by the bone. She was not happy. On the plus side it was dog friendly.
A. B.
Great pub.. excellent food!
S. B.
There's always a warm welcome, the beer is outstanding and we've eaten there many times and the food has always been great! The Three Tuns is probably my favourite pub ever.
A. W.
Needless to say that the beer was great here at one of Shropshire's top breweries. The was also very good. If you visit Bishops Castle this place is well worth popping into.
B. G.
Great pub/brewery with a posh menu. Perhaps not to some people's liking and not cheap, but I enjoyed the food and ale.
J. C.
Although I'm still not sure if 'Best' is the best ale there, the fact that it's brewed pretty much on site along with several other delicious variants is reason enough to visit the three tuns. Throw in some lovely food and a game or two of connect four (it might be time to sort the number of yellow counters out guys) to round off a great pub experience.
D. R.
Excellent pub! Great beer, lovely food, friendly staff and happy to feed under 18s after 7:30 Thankyou for a cracking evening
E. C.
A great pub with a wide range at the bar, some brewed on site. Also good food from the kitchen.
a. t.
Great beer and great food. Come here 3-4 times a year whenever in the area visitibg family, new manger and staff this time? Same good experience. Thanks
M. G.
Good service and good-sized, reasonably-priced food portions. Make sure you try the beers from the brewery next door of the same name. Definitely one to visit!
D. P.
Great atmosphere, a real pub with a real sense of history serving some great beers.
P. N.
Awesome beer, great service, yummy pub food!!
B. B.
Great pub + choice of beers. Friendly staff.
B. P.
Lovely pub in the heart of the town with its own onsite brewery. Didn't get a chance to eat but the beer was very good and the staff friendly. Dogs welcome.
A. P.
This lovely old brewery dating back to around 1640 still stands on the original site. You can also enjoy one of the many beers in the pub that's attached to the brewhouse. Highly recommended.
M.
Went for a few drinks with my other half whilst on holiday and we both enjoyed it. Meal booked for tomorrow evening.
M. W.
Excellent service of in my case basic food, really tasty, and I enjoyed the local brown ale.
C. G.
Wonderful old world pub atmosphere staff were friendly food excellent would visit again when in this area😊
A. L.
Excellent cuisine in excellent surroundings. Go there and enjoy their brew.
A. E.
A tasty lunch in this settled and fascinating pub and brewery. A good piece of salmon in a flavourful and creamy sauce and a rich treacle pudding with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
The brewery is the oldest such licensed establishment in England (1642), and a fine example of a tower brewery that uses gravity to drive the brewing process.
Bishop's Castle too was a surprising delight, full of wonderful little houses and cottages, given character by their owners and clearly a thriving artistic community. The local church has two handsome and stylish stain-glass windows in pre-Raphaelite style.
W. C.
Dog friendly, great for Real Ale.
S. E.
Visited this place on Boxing Day for the annual dance out of Shropshire Bedlam border morris. Didn't eat on this occasion but have done in the past. The burgers are highly recommended, and this from domeone that doesnt usually eat burgers.
I. D.
A proper old pub with great ale and decent food.
A. T.
Great pub own brewery on site , great food good beers good price, highly recommended.
R. H.
really perfect pub with great food and brilliant ales
M. R.
Lovely staff, beautiful beer (their home brewed pale ale was especially tasty) and an all round great pub.
J.
Lively enough place, with a great choice of beer brewed in the on site brewery. Food was good and service ok. Only minus , was the toilets smelt of sewerage
T. M.
A lovely, very traditional pub, with great beers brewed on-site.
D. P.
Lots of character, good choice of local beers. Food excellent
G. P.
Great beer brewed next door and manages to be very spacious and cosy with log burners and fires in connecting rooms. Food is good as well, just a tad overpriced.
R. W.
Nipped in for a beer. Large place, plenty of seating. Great beers decent prices. Wouldn't describe it as cosy, but clean / pleasant and staff friendly.
H. P.
Good rustic style traditional inn. Large capacity pub / diner with good food and traditional ales. Situated next door to England's oldest brewery.
L. H.
Good beer, fabulous food, worth booking in advance to guarantee a table.
N.

Really good food. Found a space despite there being loads of people who were there for a wake.
The staff were pleasant despite being so busy.

m. b.
Best beer in the country . Clerics cure 10/10
t. m.
This place is a must for anyone who loves a real pub ....wonderful ambience and fabulous beers !
S. D.
The source. The motherload. This is where it where it comes from and mighty fine it is. The beer is what you came for and it lingers on the tongue like the lick you hoped for! The food is classic hot pub grub, and wholesome too. Come inside.
R. M.
Fab beer, great service, all ale the Three Tuns!
M. L.
Food was good, if a tad expensive for what we had..starter of sharing platter was decent quality but not worth nearly £11.00..my wife's meal of bacon wrapped chicken breast was nice and my burger...well it was a burger ..nice setting overlooking the brewery...but an absolute plus was the quality of the clerics cure ale, spot on.
S. B.
Called in lunch with friends. Excellent service and food.
J. J.
Being local we use this pub a lot and is all ways great, friendly with fantastic real ale and quality food
R. M.

Quiet, friendly. How a British pub should be
A. V.
Went for lunch and wasn't disappointed! The food is excellent! There was a few options unavailable as they had a busy new year but still enough options to choose from. I started with the aubergine rolls which were delicious then the sweet potato burger. I'm not usually a huge fan of burgers that are made of vegetables but this was spot on. Full of flavour, fresh, homemade and the homemade chips and onion rings were perfect. My partner had the pate which he said was perfect in flavour, then the Welsh lamb steaks and said the dish was perfectly balanced with flavours, nothing was over powering other parts of the dish. Will definitely return for more culinary treats! Thanks for a fab lunch 😀
