Well what can I say about this place. If you love your beer then this is the place to go. Great selection of own brewed beers from Skinner's brewery. A great back wall of craft beers as well as ciders. The staff were on another level. Great knowledge of what they served and incredibly friendly. Whenever I come back to Cornwall on business I will be going here for my evening beer.

Lovely and unusual pub which I think was a ladies outfitter in a past life. Not the brewery tap for Skinners (that is at the nearby brewery). However, it had pretty much the full range of Skinners beers, plus some guest beers from elsewhere. Aside from the hand pumps, this pub also sells overpriced Kraft Krap for those punters with more money than sense!!

Fab range of ciders, usually have something new to try. A great pub whether you've just finished shopping and fancy a lunch time pint with a pasty (bring your own) or when there's a band playing in the evening. Would recommend this pub to anyone !

Always good to pop in. Very sad this time, as Skinner's in administration. But a few casks still on offer (along with some great bers on tap from elsewhere), I assume until stock depleted, including Skinner's 'Penny Come Quick' (stout), which is my favourite but had never been on when I've been in previously. Hopefully the pub will survive and thrive in future.

A quirky pub . . . Great selection of beers and monkey nut shells on the floor!! Very convenient for buses. I just regret we hadn't got there earlier and got comfy seating. Will certainly go back.

Great selection of real ales, all served by knowledgeable and welcoming staff. This place is likely to suffer from it's own success as space and seating are at a premium...although I'm not sure that there isn't another floor upstairs, but being disabled, this would be out of reach for me. Quite amazingly they allow you to bring in outside food and although one review on here mentioned 'not smelly fish and chips', on my visit a table of 3 had exactly that and nobody seemed to bother them? Maybe the staff were just to busy? Be aware that CAMRA members are entitled to 10% discount on the home brewed selection. Free WiFi. No car park. Highly recommended. UPDATE: Apologies for the fish and chips meals. Somehow I have managed to confuse 2 entirely different establishments...only one of which is TOAH in Truro. So possibly the other commentators comment on this food source, as being not acceptable, is the correct one. I must have a check up for my mental abilities?

Quaint old ale house in the centre of Truro. A quirky thing here is to help yourself to a handful of unshelled monkey nuts, crack them open and then once consumed Chuck the empty husks on the floor. There’s a good selection of drinks on offer.

For a nice pint of Skinners beer this is the place to go, it's very casual, relaxed and family friendly. We often go in with out son who is now 7 months old and the staff is very helpful with any needs you may have. My husband's favorite thing abiut this ale house thst they supply you with peanuts in the shell you can enjoy with your pint. (reminds him of bars back home in the US). You can bring your own food to eat and on weekends there is normally live music.

This is seriously one of the greatest pubs in the world. Bartenders were young, smart, kind, and both completely delightful. I could bring my own food as the kitchen was closed. The crowd and the ambiance were as beautifully typical, animated, and unpretentious as one would hope for in such a place with a shingle reading Old Ale House. Wonderful!!!

Always brilliant! The staff here are great and always like to have a laugh with you. We like the old ale House because we get to try out new rums. New covid rules has made it a little harder to select as you can't approach the bar, however we have found that the staff seem to know a lot about them and can advise.

Really excellent pub, lots of choice for ales. I'm not a lager drinker but they have a choice of those, fruit wines and of course spirits. Food upstairs is pretty good and a nice seating area away from the downstairs. Quite often have live bands etc, normally pretty good atmosphere. Good staff and good beer. Can't really go wrong with The Old Ale House.

Great ale from local brewery Skinners. As well as the favourites you find at other pubs and in bottles, there's lots of other options that I guess are experiments. Slovenian Dragon is a favourite. Well priced and friendly staff. My favourite pub in Truro.

Does what it says on the tin - the decor is dark and classic, the staff are friendly and knowledgable, and the beer/ale selection is epic. There are nuts available to munch on and sawdust on the floor. Music begs to be sung along to, but isn't too loud or intrusive. Very relaxed atmosphere with plenty of locals. Will be back.

Went to this unassuming pub prior to our Skinner's brewery tour recently. Great showcase of some of the best Cornish beer, free peanuts and a spacious array of seating etc.

What was once one of the best pubs in Truro has succumb to the over priced drinks plague that has riddled Truro over the last year or two. They stopped serving their delicious food which was a silly idea and now that they have removed the ever so popular juke box this place doesn't have much left to pull me back in. Yes it's still a great place to drink and yes they have live bands and yes the bar staff are great but this place is slowly slipping downhill.

The pub is a real ale haven. CAMRA Kernow pub of the year 2017. Unfortunately, we went there for lunch. They have stopped doing food, and therefore as they aren't providing a proper service, we was forced to go to another pub. As we left, another party was being informed of the pubs shortfall, and promptly left as well. Very disappointing.
