Reviews of Barley Mow
L. P.
Staff at the Barley Mow is very attentive and friendly. I have stepped in during rain, wet to the bone, and guys brought me back to life with a pint of Guinness and an awesome fake steak pie with peas and fries. Sorry, chips. By the way, I wonder why the rest of the world doesn’t put vinegar on chips. It’s so good! Also, you can unwind with a glass and watch sports on TV (cricket, rugby, soccer, darts, all the good stuff). Lovely place to eat and to hang out.
D. C.
Nice chilled atmosphere in the middle of the town centre, a great place to sit and watch the world go by. Decent food at reasonable prices.
L. H.
Lovely oldie worldly public house! The facade is authentic and beautiful. Loved to hear about the history of the place, so much of the original features exist. Great food, very good service, thank you for taking our group photo and making lots of great memories. I will definitely return with my family!
N. C.
Firstly Justine was outstanding!
Secondly forget spoons 3 for £12.50, this place is 5 for £11.50! Much better value for money despite spoons being amazing to start with. (Also slightly better portions 😜)
Thirdly blackcurrant and soda £1 for a pint, can't argue with that.
All in all a very enjoyable experience. Can't wait tomorrow 😀

Had a lovely experience here with a couple friends. Was served by Justine who suggested we try the shared plate and choc fudge cake for dessert. Food was beautiful and would recommend others to come here, menu is varied and the staff are willing to accommodate for additional requests

I’ve been here a few times now, and while the location, atmosphere and the food are all lovely, I’m not quite so keen on some of the staff. Having spent a little bit of time in the Warrington area today with family, we decided that it might be nice to stop in for a quick bite; everything was going great until I realised that one of the male staff members (probably in his early twenties) who was sat on another table, just a little bit away from us, with a young female of a similar age (also an employee) was consistently staring over and giving me sly looks, now, while I can appreciate that young people have a little bit of growing to do, it did make me feel extremely uncomfortable. It certainly wasn’t the experience that I was expecting at the age of 42 while accompanying a mature family, and certainly not from a place of business. It’s unfortunate because we do enjoy going there if we’re in the area, but at the same time I feel like this just might have put me off visiting in the future.

Love it, authentic, full of history. food was served amazinglt fast, crew were friendly and approachable, lots of seat available, price is just amazing compared to other pubs. authentic old feel inside.

Had a lovely meal here at the Barley Mow! I would highly recommend the southern fried bbq chicken wrap! Full of flavour and a bargain at £5.49!
I was served by Jacque, who was more than happy to help us. He served us with a smile and respect - you can’t ask much more than that
EDIT: I have been again today for some wings and a drink with a few friends. I noticed Justine who came to our table and greeted us all personally. She went above and beyond her job role and ensured we were served quickly!
D. S.
Absolutely lovely food, great service and Michael the gent behind the bar was very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend and will be back very soon
S. H.

Love to come to the barley mow when in town. Food is always very nice. They have a veriety on the menu and my favourite is the katsu chicken with chips. Staff are helpful and very friendly. Would recommend booking over the weekend as they can get quite busy especially when the football is on. Overall worth a visit!
S. G.
Food was ok. No wait time for food at lunch. Many sticky menus. Steak was overcooked (asked for medium got well done or more, was dry chewey) pees wernt cooked well either. No issues with the burger. Staff were nice and friendly. Price was descent. Overall ok experience, standard pub experience.
S. W.
Our server, Brad, was excellent. The food deal we had chosen was fantastic value and tasted amazing! Highly recommended 👌
J. W.

Went to the bar to place my order, but the barman informed me that they didn't have what I wanted in the menu as it was sold out. No problem says I, I'll just go back to my table and tell my partner, any way we both go for the burgers, mine the triple with cheese, Maria asked for the single which I'm certain is on the menu . The barman informs me that they don't do the single burger ,no problem says me, I'm sure she can try the double . ( I am still confident that there is a single burger on the menu though) . I order a coffee for myself and a bottle of still water for my partner , the glass for the water is filthy with bits of lemon stuck inside. She takes it back to the very nice and friendly barman and replaced it with a clean one after picking up two more.
The food arrives and I have to say that the burgers were absolutely top class, proper beef burgers . Unfortunately I can't say the same for the chips, I swear to Jeasus, they were pure white and I bit into one and it was still semi frozen and it was the same with my partner's.
Would I go there again ?
Yes for sure, of course that's if management would allow me after this review.
Why would I go again?
Well first of all I do believe in giving everyone a second chance, it just might have been an off day.
Number two, it's a lovely place with a nice atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and helpful
.
Update, I've visited on a number of occasions since and I have to say things have improved a lot.
I would recommend this fine establishment.
Now I'll add an extra 🌟

Amazing value, tasty and surprisingly fresh food. Very friendly service. Will be back for the chicken wings again!
T. Q.
What a wonderful hip yet quaint pub. A longish wait time around 45 minutes. But well worth it for the quality of freshly made food. Would eat here again for sure. The burgers was simple but we'll constructed.
N. T.
Although a rowdt group of men come and sat near us and were very loud, the overall experience was good
N. M.
Always great food with good service! Prices are reasonable which means we can come more often!
C. H.

R. S.
If you just want to eat while drinking its fine....chips clearly frozen bought same as breaded cheese sticks....food not bad bit nothing the write home about
J.
Been into the Mow many times over the years. Never been disappointed with the service or atmosphere of the place.
Great deals on the menu to be had. Service can be slow at busy times, but absolutely understandable.
A few characters visit this place in an evening, which can be entertaining. A place that is friendly and cosy, with a good assortment of alcoholic beverages.
A. K.
Nice traditional pub with food but they stop serving food at 6.45pm.
M. S.
Food fantastic and staff lovely always feel relaxed when I come to the barley mow
J. H.
Lovely little restaurant severs were all lovely and food came out quick
G. A.
Was really busy yet the staff were sick and friendly. It was a blast from the past for my hubby who used to go while at uni. He loved it hasn't really changed much.
What a great pub, not made to feel like a chain.
B. O.
Always good for a quick bite. Nothing special just good wholesome food. A great price, good choice of wines, again at a fantastic price, what we pay for two glasses of wine elsewhere we get a bottle in the Barley Mow. Friendly staff and great service.
L. W.
Nice friendly place, great food and good lager. Can be busy but worth the visit. Staff are very friendly

W. M.
Lovely food attentive staff and great Guiness on a beautifully sunny March afternoon
J. B.
Beautiful old grade II listed pub.
Lots of original woodwork. Staff were very friendly and the beer was very resealable priced
Atmosphere and decor completely ruined by the large flatscreen TVs pumping out Sky Sports
A. H.
We go few times a week, cheap cheerful ,
Not to good today
Young girl rude
Sausages from breakfast.
No onions in onion gravy
I get gammon with salad, not today no exchanges.
So 2 for 8.49 2 x drinks 27 pounds

S. D.
Lovely pub in the perfect location. We have visited several times and staff are always friendly and helpful. Food is always delicious and great value for money!
A. H.
Great pub in the centre of Warrington offering very reasonably priced drinks and food.
W. B.
Run out of certain foods, also as no gammon wouldn't exchange extra sausage
W. C.
Someone remembered me from years ago and said to return. I popped in for a pint. As I said, years ago.
D. L.
Good menu. Food was ok . Lovely building and friendly staff. Beware of the steps inside could be made into ramps for safety.

Visited recently whilst seeing family. Great service and very friendly pub. Had a really good selection of Gin's. Would definitely recommend!!
M. J.
Decent pub food good choice of drinks friendly staff
M. W.
Went in to watch the match. You could use the app or have table service. The app took ages to download but you got a free pint with it. Everyone was masked up. It was fairly quiet for a Saturday early kick off. Didn't wait anytime once we ordered. They're taking covid seriously having introduced a one way system into and out of the pub
G. P.
Great place really loved the real ale and the oldie. Worldey feel xx
A. H.
Good quality, typical chain pub fare.
Be careful when ordering the roast beef, Yorkshire pudding wrap as staff managed to get this wrong and served a roast beef tortilla wrap instead. Still enjoyable and quite possibly my error (hadn't realised there were 2 very similar items) but not what I'd originally wanted.
D. P.
Excellent service. Staff friendly and efficient. Very welcoming and nothing too much trouble.
Def recommend and would visit again.
l. h.
First visit yesterday, good food , fair prices , will deffo revisit , friendly staff , love the old build and it’s history
R. D.
A nice pub. A good choice of food and real ales. Nice outside seating area. The majority of the staff are friendly. Service is good. All in all a pleasant place to go. You can have a nice drink in relaxed surrounding. The food looked good although I haven't eaten there.
M. R.
Went as a teen to the Barley before a night out and fast forward 20 years and I still go in for a pint or three. Hope to be writing a similar review in another 20 😀
I've always liked the friendly atmosphere, good selection of real ales and reasonably priced pub grub. Long may it last!
M. F.
Apparently the oldest pub in the area, it looks very historical from the outside, all black and white and leaded windows. There's a sitting area outside too for the odd sunny Wazza day. Inside it's like going back to historical times, not in an altogether bad way, but some of the upholstery could do with bit of darning.
Nice selection of beer, very cheap but very adequate food, a great fish and chips for under six quid. Lots of dark wood, lots of nooks and crannies, a big screen for when the rugby is on. It's not a bad historical pub.
j. p.
This is a pub that serves Mac and cheese covered waffle fries and won't judge you for eating it. All you need to know really...
A. R.
Lovely pub...excellent service from very friendly and efficient staff. Good prices and great location...Will definitely visit again
D. T.

g. p.
Lovely place to eat and chill
G. p.
Great place to eat, the food is inexpensive, and great as Well. I really like the feel of this pub, I think it was but in the 1500 and has history with Oliva Cromwell. Its set in the Golden Square shopping centre and stands out, as it while and black timber. I remember going in here in my youth and they used to have a stuffed black bear in the corner, which has unfortunately now gone. All in all, if you in Warrington and want some pleasant to eat , that doesn't cost the earth, it a must.
U. S.
Great service from them with the added pressure of table service for drinks. Food was great.
Great job and well done.

l. b.
Not sure about this place , food was good once you could order what you wanted, was told they didn't have a lot of the menu then told they did, some staff seemed confused and was flitting from 1 thing to another. The positive is the stella was good and they had 2 younger members of staff to serve the meals and clear away afterwards, very nice girls.
s. “. h. w.
Excellent food and wine at really inexpensive prices. Low fat options, gluten free options. Lovely surroundings. Enjoyable visit. Will most definitely do it again.
a. j.
The pub has a really good atmosphere and friendly staff.
You can enjoy a good selection of craft beers and food, in a town centre pub that's over 300 years old.
N. S.
This pub is ok the staff are friendly enough but I feel like it should move with the times it needs a refurb could be brighter inside. Prices are reasonable though however food isn't the best
A. R.

Always dine here when in Warrington.very old pub, claims to be haunted.very cosy inside ,original wood paneling etc.Food good.the steak in particular, done just how I like.medium rare and so tender.chips don't have that "frozen" taste.like homemade. The peas taste as if just out of the pod.All in all I love this place.Giveit a try!!
E. A.
Nice pub normally but after spending a couple of hours there, they made me pay for a new pint when I told them that the pint I had was off, also their new WiFi MySmartWifi is rubbish, very basic; had to go to a pub with the Cloud.

Disappointed on last visit, staff changed my order without letting me know, went to bar to say i had wrong order ,waited so long to be told why they changed it, my food was cold when i got back to it. Should have been told on ordering that there was an issue.
A. F.
