Reviews of The Cricketers on the Green

Went here for a Sunday lunch with family. Had the table booked for 2pm, so not particularly later in the day but unfortunately they were already sold out of 3 types of roast! They were very accommodating though and we had roast beef - it was brilliant. The meat was perfectly cooked, huge Yorkshire puddings and great veggie sides. This is the third time I’ve been here and it has never disappointed.
The decor and ambience is great. They even had live music, which was a pleasant surprise.
Would highly recommend!

Such a beautiful venue. During lockdown we frequented the famous Yurt, so nice to be able to dine-in in the fabulously renovated restaurant. Seasonal menu, lovely staff, Fantastic deserts. Can't wait to come again!

Food is delicious 😋, this is my 3rd time in this pub. Lovely staff I'm sure chef is well professional . 👍 Asian flavours!!! Love it

Disappointed with the Caesar Salad. Fairly ordinary, didn't get the taste of truffle oil. Flapjack very tasty and espresso good. Service very friendly. Would visit again but choose something different.

Food is always great here, but service can be hit or miss. 2 out of 3 at our table received the wrong dishes after waiting around an hour for our food. Luckily we weren’t in a rush and they ultimately made it right.

Lovely valentine's meal. Love the feel of the pub. Very helpful friendly staff

Previously this was simply The Cricketers pub, which had as much atmosphere as a rail station waiting room, so was looking forward to the refurbishment. This didn't disappoint, major additions to the size of the place, and a good vibe.
Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Sadly a couple of downsides.
Ordered a bottle of wine when booking the table (for my wife's birthday), but we were asked for drinks before the meal, and the bottle we ordered didn't appear until I prompted them. No big deal, but makes a nonsense of pre-ordering during booking.
Service was very slow, apparently some issues in the kitchen the evening we were there.
Starters were good, if somewhat delayed, but mains were only okay, particularly for £60 a head. Pastry was charred on both pies we ordered, and one side dish was lukewarm at best, and had to be returned to be heated.
We had booked at just before 8pm, and the restaurant slowly emptied throughout our meal, to the point where only we were left in the room, where we then seemed to be abandoned. No offer of dessert, or coffee, or even if we wanted the bill. So simply left and paid at the bar on the way out.
Unlikely to go again, which is a shame, The White Hart next door provides a much better eating experience.

Very nice setting. Had a really lovely time. I only popped in for one by the fire with my wife and all of a sudden we were dining in. The menu looks amazing. The Ale I had was an absolute winner. Its called RIP snorters by hogsback. Really tasty.
Starters I had the scotch egg and it was tk die for. Warm and crispy plus full of flavor. I then had the beef cheek. It was nice. The meat was so melt in your mouth you couldn't cut it. Like poking a hot potatoe with your knife. 😁 for me the flavours were not quite there, especially in the horseradish mash which I think they maybe waved a horseradish over it, not actually cooked with it 😅 service was slow but we didn't mind. Recommended.

Great place, lots of charm and very tasty food. Great detour made to come here, would do it again even if I wasn’t really passing in the neighbourhood.
