This place was on our list of places to visit after receiving recommendations from family. The pub has a great vibe and ambience, the wait staff is courteous and helpful in general. The place is child friendly( also has a child menu too) we had our toddler along with us for a Sunday lunch. I've added the photos of the dishes - fish and chips & pork ribs and chicken wings, that we ordered for reference so that it helps you to decide 😉. There is a huge list to choose from for cocktails and wines. Being a Sunday, we reached around 11.45 am and the Sunday roasts were out of stock( disheartened on this). Will definitely try to visit this place again to try other varieties of dishes.

Staff were lovely. Food reasonably priced and had a lovely lunch. I was looking for a healthy option and chose grilled chicken breast. Didn't have to wait long and friendly service. Took a photo but husband was already devouring his fish finger sandwich 😂 Oh and nice ales too so will definitely be back.... 🍻

Good place for a bite to eat and your usual pint. Nothing really sets it apart from the other "serial" pubs. The "posh" fish & chips had nothing posh about it and the chicken katsu curry had flavoured rice. It think it should normally have just plain white rice. Service was slow even though the pub was not even half full and most of the patrons were having just drinks. Could be better!

I recently had my engagement party at The Sovereigns pub, and I can truly say that it was a delight! The staff are unbelievably helpful and nothing was too much of an ask for them. We hired the room and had welcome drinks all out and ready when everyone arrived. The buffet food was delicious and our guests were very impressed. The music and dancing went on until close and the staff were continuously helping throughout the event. Couldn't of asked for better service. I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of having an event, to do it at The Sovereigns! :) Thanks Sam, Lauren and Jemma especially!

I find the pub to be friendly, clean and pleasant to be in. The staff are fantastic and the food is good and reasonable priced. I and my friend go to the Soverigns almost every week and we love it. One critisism only: Not much choice on the lunch time menu for vegetarians/vegans, this could be improved.

The staff in here are kind, friendly and very patient. My daughter is very fussy eater but they took the time to cater for her. This was at a meal for 10 children and 9 adults. Gemma was beyond amazing at her service to our table. Keeping food flowing nicely and kept checking if there was anything more she could do. The food was more than expected. The taste was sensational and full of flavour. I felt right at home. The added plus is dogs are welcome too. Thank you to all the staff but mostly Gemma for such an amazing time. I will be coming back again soon!

I never imagine that kind of dish. It's really big! Spent about £15 for an ultimate double burger and a pint of Peroni. Cheaper than McDonald considered the size and uncompared quality. Staff was helpful. Very satisfied!

Food is actually amazing value, set menus are a real saver. Sign up for emails, and from time to time you’ll get other offers. Staff very friendly and helpful. They seem happy to help substitute things on dishes if there’s something you don’t want... example Happy to swap mushy peas for a bit of salad. If you want real value for money and a cosy pub, look no further. There’s also what I would call a vibe of it being many people’s local, but you never feel it’s just for them either! Just feel part of the community. They have pub quizzes too!

The pub is lovely.. massive and old school in many ways. The food is inexpensive and the portions massive. Lovely place to come on a lunch time. I will have to try and pop in one evening. There are tvs for news and sport.. plus quiz nights. A great pub experience.

Love The Sovereigns for being so chilled, such a relaxing pub vibe. Bar staff, and all the staff, are courteous and attentive. I've not tried the food, but friends who have continue to enjoy it, regularly ordering from the menu. A decent outdoor seating area, and it gets packed pretty quick on fair days. Terrific location and free parking too.

My son lives in Woking, whilst I live some 13 miles away in Farnborough. Because my son does not drive, we individually or as a family always use The Sovereigns as our preferred place to meet.. It’s spacious, clean, cosy, with good pub food and friendly, attentive staff. I would personally like to thank Sam, who responded within the hour, to my email about a parking issue that I had on my last visit. It was entirely my fault, due to my lack of vigilance over the newly implemented parking registration. He phoned me, to reassure me that the issue would be sorted and will contact me again once all is confirmed. 5 Stars all round.

love this place good food, good vibe, good value. Update 16/2/21 still a great experience here. Update 21/9/22 arrived just before 8pm, ordered food and drinks via the app from the table just after 8pm. Was told after paying and using a shareholders voucher that the kitchen had closed due to it being quiet and they couldn't fulfill the order. The refund was dealt with and the drinks were provided free, which seemed a fair settlement to a problem that shouldn't have happened. Suggest next time the kitchens close early that the menus are removed from the tables

Update on the original review below, been a few years since I was last here, between no car, surgery and COVID it hasn't been great, I was pleasantly surprised to see the quiz still running, but the time change means most people I knew were no longer there, but still the same great and friendly service as I knew it as, but very glad that they have survived the pandemic, I can only guess at what hell they must have been through with everything, so great to see them again. Starting to get a feel for here now, and they seem a great bunch, friendly and helpful, dedicated parking, make sure you enter your reg on the touch screen by the till when you go in though to qualify, 2 disabled car spaces, wheelchair access from the rear of the pub via what appears to be an outdoor seating, and a quiz each Monday, all very casual, perfect.

Great little pub with a good food selection and many cask ales and bottled beers. Good taps. Clean bar and eating areas. Large tables which makes it great if you have large groups. We go down each Tuesday for our regular games night and we are always made to feel welcome. Staff are polite and helpful.

It's a nice pub, with a very cosy atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food took a while to be delivered and was burnt, but it's a pub: so it's about the drinks right? Well they came really quickly, and the glasses were not dirty. They do have a children's menu too, by the way.

The food is good, what you'd expect from a proper pub as opposed to those gastro-pubs that keep turning up everywhere. Decent priced pint and they usually have live sports on tv. Very busy on weekends and during live sporting events so plan accordingly!

Some of the staff here are unhelpful and rude. I appreciate they are adhering to guidelines, however coming from a different city where there are different rules for wearing masks, there is no need to berate and publicly shame paying customers. Further, the app was not working properly to make orders, the waiters turned us away twice before they even granted us the opportunity to explain the situation that we couldn't order. However, there was a Polish or Lithuanian waitress who was really nice and made up for the experience.

Not been down in a blue moon, (keep in mind that I only come in on occasion at the best of times) was delighted to be greeted by name with wide smiles and genuine inquiries as to my going ons and general health. I found this to be really touching and just a really nice touch of a lovely pub.

A nice pub, decent size, a few different areas to eat at, had a beer garden. I've always really enjoyed the food there and they do a great chocolate brownie! Be careful of the parking, it's free but you have to use the tablets inside to log your car in.

We ventured out to our first pub for over 6 months and went indoors. The Covid rules were explained. We wanted to eat. A multi-page plastic menu was handed to us over the bar. We chose and handed it back. The ok food was brought to us by the same person who served our drinks, handled the menu and also returned without the vinegar and French mustard we requested and gave us English mustard. Main Steak over-cooked. Mixed grill steak chewy. Sorry, we won't be rushing back.

I have to admit I was a bit anxious about going out during covid but if you’re looking for amazing food and somewhere following strict covid guidelines then look no further. I felt completely at ease as not only are they are using the track and trace system but all of the staff are wearing masks and using hand sanitiser. Another great thing about this pub is that there is free parking, you just put your reg into one of the two tablets at the bar. The staff are always polite and helpful and nothing is too much trouble! I will be back! I particularly enjoyed the karaage chicken and nachos! Yum!

I like my food and I like my beer and when in Woking I like to go here. Nice roomy pub good selection of ales on tap and an excellent menu for both choice and taste. Car park at the rear is a bonus too, if you're being lifted or picked up of course. Seemed to have a reasonable selection of drinks for designated drivers.

Clearly this is a brewery pub, catering for mass market appeal. Normally I would not review a pub like this with particular favour. The staff however make the difference and ensure a good welcome, they were accomodating and helpful. In particular Lucy who was good humoured, knowledgeable and has very helpful with a disabled friend who had particular requirements. The pub itself was clean and tidy with plenty of space and character. They had a large selection of standard beers and a few specials.

Woking may not have a great selection of attractions, but it does have pubs! The sovereigns is a pretty good one too. It's very large, and the staff always seem friendly. Good for a bite or a drink any day of the week.

Best to go during the week days as it's not too crowded. Great selection of guest ales and the food is very tasty. Everyone is friendly, you can watch sports if you fancy that. Definitely recommend it.

Really good food and friendly staff makes this pub one of the best I've ever been. It's located near Woking train station, just a 7min walk, it's in the centre of the city and the best location if you need to return London, as I do, or go any other city. There's a good selection of beers and drinks and a great 2-course deal for a great price of 8.99 pounds. It's possible to choose several different plates from entries and mains, which include burgers and steak for an extra fee, or mains and desserts. Really good price for the portion size and quality. Highly recommended!

It was quiet in the Soverign when we had a late lunch/early dinner but the wait for our meals was far too long plus some people in our group had finished theirs before other meals arrived. I think the Sovereigns is great. It has a nice ambience, has been decorated nicely and there is lots of seating. Usually the food is good but I had a roast here one Sunday and it wasn't nice at all. I assume they had ran out of veg and put on pickled cabbage instead - it was horrible! Their pub quiz is on a Monday night and starts at 9pm. Usually too late for me but have done it once or twice - same quiz as at Ogilvys in town.

Amazing value for money as always. What made our visit was the staff, very friendly. It was a Sunday afternoon just after the rush of the Sunday lunch, they were a little frazzled after the rush but still couldn't do more for us, the lovely girl i asked to clear a table outside for us even apologised and explained they had been so busy. We moved inside to eat due to the huge amount of wasps there seems to be this year (no fault of the pub obviously) we sat and caught he end of the football and again the staff was on hand changing the chanels etc for us! The food was great, very tasty. The three roasts was huge!!! So big, we had to take some home for our very spoiled pooch!

Nice cosy environment. Good bubbly cold beer. Food is "good" but no better than that. However, the food is very, very good value for money and you won't be feeling hungry afterwards either! They also have a couple of Tv's, so you can catch the sport with your pals or take advantage of the chilled, comftable family dining area. We visited in the winter, but you could see they had a good outside area to dine in the summer too. Tip - try not to over eat or you'll get stuck in their cossy sofas and won't make the short walk back to the town! Well worth a visit.

Went here 5.30pm on sunday.... Food very good..made an absolute pig of myself with pate, followed by chicken and leek pie which was delicious and topped off with profiteroles! !! Left feeling as if I'd eaten my weight in food, but we were not rushed so it was a long and leisurely meal. Well worth the visit. The staff were very friendly without being over attentive. We will definitely be visiting again. Ember inns offer very good value for money. ..this is probably the 6th one in the chain that we have been to and every time we have had a really good meal... I visit this pub approx every 8weeks to meet friends and I used to work with. Staff extremely well helpful and friendly. Food very good and very good value for money. Management are also very tolerant of. High spirits. Within reason. This is more than can be said for the local Witherspoon the other side of the railway. Management there. In my opinion have a low tolerance when it comes to to allowing people to enjoy themselves. A Witherspoon ex employ once told me this is Witherspoon policy in exchange for cheap booze. However this does not seem to apply for in other Witherspoon pubs.

I have visited the sovereigns on several occasions over a couple of years at different times and days of the week.. there has always been a friendly welcome and unto to long to wait.. ordering food at the bar and giving table number worse well.. food is always well prepared and presented..not had any cause for complaint thus so far.. the atmosphere is relaxed and cosy..

To get one thing straight: The Sovereigns is not an independent pub and sadly these days, most pubs aren't independent. The Sovereigns is owned by the large characterless corporate 'pubco' Mitchells & Butlers and for Woking residents who don't realise how huge this company is, they own The Sovereigns, The Wheatsheaf on the Chobham Road, O'Neills in the centre of town, The Harvester in West Byfleet and the Miller & Carter Steakhouse in Ottershaw to name but a few. All of these outlets are undoubtedly managed by some spotty graduate in his company car spending more time staring at spreadsheets on his company laptop than facing the customer. With that backdrop, it needs some real talent and flare to create a wonderful guest experience when as a landlord you have zero influence on the menu. Thankfully, for the last eight years, Chris and Lucy, the guv'nors of The Sovereigns, have provided just that. As a village lad, I never really expected to move to a town and feel like I had a 'local' where the landlord knew me and greeted me like a regular. Chris and Lucy have given me (and doubtless many other Woking residents) just that. Their quick-witted sense of humour and banter between each other is sure to put a smile on any customer's face whether a regular or a one off visitor. To put Chris & Lucy to one side for a second (sorry!) my wife enjoys the chicken burger and my favourite is the Wild Boar & Chorizo burger - a must try! Mitchells & Butlers shut this pub for a week for a refurbishment ripping out intimate booths thereby increasing covers obviously with profit in mind. The toilets could have done with more than a new hand dryer. But there was nothing Chris and Lucy could have done about this, it was the spotty graduate's fault. Cardiff's gain is Woking's loss. Whoever is coming in to replace this welcoming couple have a tough act to follow. Chris, Lucy: Thank you for your years of hard work, I doubt I'd last six months in your industry.

Staff can be a bit rude but generally a good nice place. Better in colder months as has a lovely fire place, where as in summer the outside seating is on the main busy road with the building blocking the sun but the afternoon so not as good.

Meal was not as good as it used to be. The fish pie was supposed to contain prawns, but not a prawn was found. This was hot but served, very strange ly, with nearly cold cabbage as an accompaniment. The haddock and chips were hot but the batter was thick and stodgy, whilst the fillet of fish was thinnish and contained bones.
